Crafting update! I had a bit of a health flare up a few days ago and haven't done much crafting since, but I do have the fabric ironed, cut to size, and ready to start sewing for my next canvas tote (purple and gold moths), and I've also got about half of my "whenever I feel like crocheting" baby blanket done I also ordered some shorts, and I think I might embroider them? I have one pair so I know the cuffs are a little weird, but they fit and the weird cuffs would be easy to embroider, I just have to decide between flowers or rainbow shapes like I did for my denim jacket. Maybe both? Rainbow shapes on the black shorts, flowers on the light blue? Or vice versa, rainbows on light blue, flowers on black?
#the person behind the yarn#crafting update#I am okay! I just got unlucky in the location of my muscle cramps#the salt wasting (and other salt issues) mean I am prone to some pretty vicious muscle spasms if I don't stay on top of my electrolyte inta#*intake. Usually it's just legs or arms but sometimes the muscles that hate me are smooth muscles#and mostly that's just painful but if you get muscles spasming around your digestive system it does not like it#and uh. makes that dislike known unambiguously. I am good now#but that's just extra salt lost and it takes me a few days to recover#also I've been playing stardew valley lol

there's magic in this misery - part one
part two >
link to ao3 here
update: i'm currently reworking this fic as of 29th may 2024. existing parts will be deleted and replaced with an updated version when it's done!
here have some angst featuring johhny mac and ftm!reader.
TW: depictions of depression, angst, hurt no comfort, reader being a bit of a prick to johnny. ftm!reader is called handsome and bonnie lad.
pairing: john mactavish x ftm!reader (he/him pronouns used for reader)
725 words; not edited so please excuse the grammar and any typos.
AN: the depictions of depression detailed are based off my own experiences with it. it sucks and i'm offering you a head nod/handshake/hug in solidarity if you can relate or have to deal with your own brain being a dick to you. keep going, it might not get better but at least you'll prove to your brain that you won't be beaten by something that named itself.
--
the clock on your phone says it's 2.18pm when you hear the front door to your flat judder open, hinges sticking as always, and swiftly thud shut.
"shit! hang on LT, i'll give you a call back when i've spoken to him." johnny's voice seems especially loud in the stillness that shrouds your flat, the first burst of real life behind the flimsy door of your bedroom in a week.
you hope johnny doesn't come into your room. a flicker of warped pride doesn't want him to see the mess you've got yourself into this time. it doesn't want him to see your bare duvet and crumpled sheets abandoned on the floor at the end of the bed, proof of where you gave up putting them on because it was too much effort. it doesn't want johnny to see the stack of half drunk coke cans perched precariously on the set of drawers at your bedside, or the empty multipack of crisps and corresponding twenty-four foil packets scattered around your prone body. it doesn't want johnny to see that you've pulled the hood of a shapeless grey hoodie over your head so he can't see how greasy and unkempt your hair is after failing to shower for days on end. the flicker of pride sputters out as it’s blanketed by another wave of soul deep weariness and you curl tighter in on yourself on your side, legs tangling with the thin blanket you're using to cover yourself.
“bonnie lad, can i come in?” johnny’s voice has gone soft now that he’s not talking to simon on the phone, like he’s addressing an invalid or a child a nasty part of your mind pipes up unbidden. you grunt, neither an affirmative nor a denial, and you hear the door creak open behind you.
“oh handsome, you’ve got yersel’ intae a right state here, haven’t ye?” he’s still using that soft voice. the one that grates on your nerves and sends a ripple of muted irritation up your spine. your shoulders stiffen unconsciously as you fight the urge to roll over to glare at him, the interloper in your dingy room and darker thoughts.
“fuck off, johnny.” your voice is hoarse and raspy like you’ve been screaming for hours at a time instead of silent for days. “go away.”
the mattress creaks and dips under added weight, a crisp packet crinkles.
“i didnae know ye liked cheese and onion flavour.” johnny’s voice has gone artificially light and cheerful trying to eke out some kind of response. you shrug. you don’t particularly but they were the last ones in the multipack and you couldn’t be bothered to go into the kitchen to look for something else to eat.
a pause. you hear johnny stifle a sigh in his chest.
“the lads were wondering where you are, wantin’ to know if they should get you a pint.” you feel johnny lay a palm on your arm gently and your stomach roils, churning up the dark miasma inside you “or maybe a plate of chips? somethin’ to eat?”
“i’m fine.” you’re not. you know he can tell that you’re not fine either but your damned pride refuses to let you say anything other than you are. “say hello to the boys for me.”
johnny takes a breath and offers a tentative “maybe you could tell ‘em yerself?” into the space between you. you shrug again in response.
“i’m fine.” you repeat. if you say it enough it becomes true eventually.
“if you’re sure, bonnie lad.” johnny sounds disappointed, probably in you the voice tacks on.
“just go, johnny.” your voice cracks somewhere in the middle of the three words you use to send him away and you roll your shoulder to prompt him to remove his hand from your arm. the weight of it is smothering you. another burden.
the mattress dips again.
“i’ll -” johnny pauses to clear his throat as he retreats to the doorway “i’ll be back later, yeah?”
“sure.”
“i love you.”
you say nothing and turn your face into your pillow.
the door to the flat judders again and you catch part of a conversation as he moves back into the world of the living.
“yeah, no. he’s no’ comin’ -” the door shuts with another soft thud.
you check your phone again. it’s 2.32pm.

Live look at the fictional characters hanging out in the writing room in my head:
Frank Castle: *struts in wearing a cowboy hat* Mornin' fellas... And ma'am.
Michael Kinsella: *muttering to self* Fuckin' hell, another one. Might as well start another book.
Canon Matt: *glowers accusingly at LotMF* Wait a minute, what the hell is he doing here?
Frank Castle: Easy, Red, I'm not here to steal your girl. I've got my own to worry about. But why are there 2 of you? And who's this other guy that looks like you?
LotMF: *looks up from computer and glances at CUL Matt and Michael* Oh, that Matt is an AU version who's a chef instead of a lawyer... and you're actually a rancher in that series, by the way. And that over there is Michael. He's an Irish mob enforcer, but it's okay. He's really a good guy, all things considered... Just like you.
CUL Matt: ...So I'm guessing this Frank isn't my meat supplier, just like this Foggy isn't my sous chef?
LotMF: No, but your Foggy will probably be along eventually. Skyler keeps nagging me to write something for her and him.
Michael: *still muttering* Well tha's wha' ya get for basically insertin' yerself inta tha story as a side character.
LotMF: *raises an eyebrow* What was that, Michael Kinsella?
Michael: I said, ya got anythin' besides Steinbeck in here? I'm runnin' out of readin' material.
LotMF: Oh, uh, yeah. There should be some Fitzgerald and Hemingway over on the shelf there.
Peter: *walks over to Frank as Michael goes to choose another book* Hi, we haven't met. I'm Peter.
Frank: *shakes Peter's hand* Frank.
Peter: So are you friends with Matt and Foggy?
Canon Matt: *emphatically* Hell no.
Frank: Aww, come on, Red, you mean you didn't miss me?
Canon Matt: You shot me, Frank. In the head.
LotMF: Now boys, play nice. Don't forget that I'm going on vacation on Saturday and will have plenty of time to write over the following 5 days. And that includes for you, Mikey. I haven't forgotten about you.
Michael: *warily* Promise?
LotMF: I promise. My laptop is already packed and I'm working out my writing schedule now. As long as you all cooperate with me, you'll each get an update soon.
Michael: *sits back down* Okay then. Sorry, love.
LotMF: It's okay, I understand your frustration.
Peter: Yeah so anyway, I'm gonna get back to trying to fix my coffee maker, I just wanted to say hi.
Frank: Okay, see ya. *To Foggy* Am I supposed to know that guy?
Foggy: Oh, uh, no. He's actually from an alternate universe.
Frank: He's from a what now?
Foggy: It's a long story. He's a cool dude though.
LotMF: Anyway, welcome aboard, Frank. Grab a book and have a seat and I'll get to you as soon as I can.
Foggy: Might as well settle in. Matt's hogging all the attention.
Frank: *chuckles* Why am I not surprised?
Canon Matt: Piss off, Frank.
LotMF: Matthew. What did I just say?
Canon Matt:*Muttering under his breath* I should've known her watching Frank's show was a bad idea.
LotMF: MATTHEW!
Canon Matt: *sulkily* Sorry.
LotMF: *under breath* I swear, it's like herding cats with these guys.
Steven Grant: *pokes head in* May I come in now?
Everyone: NO!

Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci (CNS) as Emerging Mastitis Pathogens
Introduction
Mastitis caused by Coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CNS) usually remains subclinical or mildly clinical [1], however it was reported that CNS mastitis could be aggravated to severe clinical cases [2], but most CNS mastitis cases are chronic [3] based on their intramammary persistence for lactation milk exceeding periods, even extended to the upcoming ones [4]. CNS mastitis is a hidden but serious threat to dairy herd including further horizontal transmission to lactating cows and vertical to suckling calves because of environmental origin of most CNS and hidden subclinical nature [5]. CNS mastitis hazards aren’t exclusive to the dairy herds, but also extended to public health due to possible horizontal transmission of resistance genes (Soares et al., 2012) to other human pathogens or direct transmission to humans because of shared zoonotic virulent CNS species between animal and humans [6]. Pathogenicity of CNS is generally amplified by two parameters: invasiveness (capability to permeate the protective barriers and to spread) and toxicity (ability to produce enzymes and toxins). CNS are capable of producing enzymes instead of coagulase enable the invasion of host tissues and spread of the inflammatory process (e.g. lipase, fibrinolysin, urease). Moreover, they were found capable of producing proteolytic enzymes, exotoxins and haemolysins, which facilitate the uptake of iron [7]. Besides other various virulence constituents protecting CNS from local and systematic host immunity actions [8].
Antimicrobial therapy is still an important component in any CNS mastitis control or prophylaxis actions. But, with the indiscriminate use of antimicrobials and emerging of multidrug resistant CNS, desired results are no longer obtained [9]. Antimicrobial resistance in CNS and other mastitis pathogens has been a worldwide concern during the past decades and it has also brought increasing attention to the use of antimicrobials in animal agriculture and its potential impact on public health [10]. The contribution of agricultural antimicrobial use to development and spread of resistance to human pathogens, however, remains under investigation and debate [11]. Mechanism of CNS resistance to antimicrobials including genotypic detection of resistance genes have been investigated for long time to update knowledge that may help in CNS control programs [12]. For example, mecA-encoded alternative penicillin binding protein, PBP2a, causing reduced binding to β-lactams antibiotics [13]. β-lactamases encoded by blaZ gene. Also, antimicrobials inactivating enzymes, efflux pumps and protective methylation of the antibiotic’s ribosomal target site help resistance to other common antimicrobials used in dairy medicine as tetracyclines, aminoglycosides and macrolides [14].
Ability to form biofilm is a very important virulence constituent, enabling CNS to be organized in multilayered cell clusters embedded in a matrix of extracellular polysaccharide (slime) permitting persistence of CNS in udder tissue unaffected by antimicrobials and protected from host immunity [7,15]. Biofilms improve the ability of microorganisms to resist adverse factors and colonize the environment besides being mainly accused for repeated therapeutic failures as CNS isolates growing within biofilms are less susceptible to antimicrobials commonly used on dairy farms, including β-lactam members [15]. Therefore, biofilm-formation by CNS species could possibly impede antimicrobial therapy [16]. Biofilm formation in CNS also contributes to distinguish them as a main cause of persistent inta-mammary infection (IMI) which enables CNS to survive in the udder tissue from season to season as a constant source of infection [16,17]. Although biofilms do not appear to affect disease severity [18].
Increased antimicrobials resistance of bacteria causing mastitis including CNS is globally and hazardously increasingly. This what recently guided scientific attention to the plant kingdom members, extracts and essential oils (EOs) as cinnamon [19] and carvacrol [20] which might be a substitute cure once the synthetic chemical compounds are unable to perform their role [21].

Major Spoiler Update:
(You can skip reading this if you believe it may affect your reading experience, but do note that this confirms the yandere status in the series.)
Jung Intae isn't the psychopath, it's his friend (who he 'blackmailed'), Chulsoo. It's a longer story than I could ever summarize and would require, like, 74 manhwa episodes. Hence, Jung Intae hardly really counts as a yandere after the reveal. I did think there was a possibility it might end that way, which is why I made a few disclaimers in the original post about the possible reinterpretation of events. Equally important to mention is that Intae does remain sus for most of the screentime (once again, 74 complete episodes), so it's still a pretty good thriller.
The series still has a couple of yanderes in it by definition. The Ethics teacher (a scumbag I have forgotten the name of) is pretty much a crazy bastard trying to mess with anyone the P.E. teacher is paying attention to. Chulsoo himself has a personal interest in Intae, however twisted that interest may be, and isn't above manipulation to isolate him from people. It's mostly a story about kids being traumatized in a variety of ways, learning to heal through all the pain and confusion and mental illnesses, and is absolutely lovely to read. There were some dialogues that really struck my heart.
My Student Can't Be a Psychopath
Author: Fluto
Genre/s: Comedy/School Life
This series belongs to that subgenre of manhwa that's made up of generally lighthearted gags while having sneak peaks of a deeper plot brewing in the background. The main cause of concern is the male lead Jung Intae, who's also the "student" referenced in the title as a "psychopath." As of the first few chapters, it's revealed he chose to claim that he is a "psychopath" to the newly transferred school nurse (who's the female lead) so that he can regularly visit or mess with her in the clinic as he is her major fan on Twitter. The series lampshades his alleged psychopathy fairly quickly, implying that it's merely a fabrication Jung Intae made to get closer to Kim Younghee. And yet, there's still something a bit off about him that's revealed in further chapters.
Admittedly, I cannot yet confidently claim that he's a yandere since I'm still reading the series. However, it is pretty much confirmed through early chapters that 1.) Jung Intae is a major fan of Kim Younghee and is interested in her, and 2.) His moral compass is questionable at the very least, as he's willing to 'blackmail' a friend if things do not go as he wishes. These plot points can and might be interpreted differently as the series progresses, but I think that the rising tension and the constant question of "Is Jung Intae really a psychopath?" can skirt pretty close to a plot filled with yandere tropes down the line.
