Trumpeter and insurrection
I was MSNBC with Rachel et al this afternoon, and she had Michael Beschloss on, talking about insurrections.
The one for the Civil War, and then he spoke about another one after the Civil War. I cannot remember what he called it, and probably need to look up somehistory. But here is what I though:
We all need to let the trumpeter know he was second or third. That will get his goat, and maybe he will trip up and yell that HE WAS THE FIRST ONE TO SET UP AN INSURRECTION. He cannot be second, certainly not third.
So maybe we should all look up what Beschloss was talking about, and find a way to mock the trumpeter that he was not first.

What you see here are terrorists. Every single one should have been shot on that day. The fact that they're being painted as heroes and patriots right now shows how far our country has fallen.
No hero or patriot has ever tried to storm a government building to try and stop votes from being counted and harm members of Congress.
No hero or patriot threw bike racks at police, hit them with fire extinguishers, sprayed them with chemicals, tased them, viciously beat them, crushed them in between doors, and built gallows to hang the VP for simply protecting democracy.
No hero or patriot so violently attacked officers of the law that four of them decided to commit suicide.
That is what terrorists do.
And no just, honest, moral leader would want to pardon terrorists.
And in the United States of America, the beacon of freedom, democracy, and justice, there is no way that a leader that wants to pardon terrorists would win the election and the popular vote.
Because then, would America really be what it says it is?
Or would it be exactly what it swears it's been fighting for years, a nation that protects terrorists?

This tweet sums up the bad faith throughout the rotted, fetid Republican Party.
You can't reason with the unreasonable.
You can't reason with fascists who must protect their corrupt, decaying, bankrupt leader.

Before the January 6 insurrection, there was the November 25 arson campaign, when violent anti-government conspirators tried to burn down Manhattan.
Issue no. 155, “City on Fire,” is now live:
The first fire bell rang out at the St. James Hotel at a quarter to nine in the evening. A guest had noticed smoke curling under the door of the room next to his and rushed to the front desk to report it. Upon entering the room, hotel staff found flames spreading across the bedding, which reeked of turpentine. Matchsticks littered the floor alongside a black satchel holding a small glass bottle of liquid. The fire, which was still small, was quickly put out. The man who was staying in the room, who had given his name as John School, was nowhere to be found.
Ten minutes later, a similar discovery was made nearly two miles away at the St. Nicholas Hotel. A bystander claimed to have seen two mysterious men hurrying out of the lobby. Soon after, a fire was discovered on an upper floor of the nearby Lafarge House hotel.
It was November 25, 1864, a clear, cool Friday just after Thanksgiving, and New York City was thick with crowds of people headed out for the night or just enjoying a downtown stroll. The jovial mood shifted sharply as the sounds of alarms erupted in the streets of Manhattan. Frantic guests and staff found rooms aflame at hotel after hotel, including the Metropolitan, the Belmont, Lovejoy’s, Tammany Hall, and the Fifth Avenue. At most of these establishments the particulars were largely the same: sheets, blankets, and furniture piled atop mattresses in a tinder heap; apothecary vials left behind at the scene; guestbook listings indicating that a young man with a generic name had checked into the room.

I think the rioters thought if they didn't manage to overthrow the election, they would just go home to their Hallmark channel existence and nothing would happen. Consequences weren't for them.

The U.S. Supreme Court is a fucking joke. Richard Nixon would have loved this ruling. I guess it would be totally cool now if Biden called in an air strike at Mar-a-Lago. For “official” purposes, of course.

One way this election is different than others is that we really can't have a split result- where, say, we win the Presidency but lose the House/Senate, or vice versa.
If we win the Presidency, but lose either the House OR Senate, then the new House/Senate (which is sworn in first) can refuse to certify the Presidential election results. That might have been unthinkable once, but nearly 150 Republicans voted not to certify in 2020 (stopping this certification of Biden's win was also the point of the January 6th insurrection).
Whereas if we win Congress but not the Presidency, a Trump Presidency and and will just ignore Congress. Per Project 2025, it will staff the whole executive branch with regime loyalists- and that includes control of the military.
Say Congress tries to block something a future President Trump (or Vance) does- how will Congress enforce that? Appeal to the Supreme Court stacked with far Right justices who gave Trump legal immunity? And even if SCOTUS sided with them, they would enforce it how? With what army? Trump will control the army.
The old system of "checks and balances" has broken down in a big way, and we really need to address that, but we can't if we don't win the election first.
We win it all, or we lose it all.
