The coffee addict never sleeps perpetually tired Tim Drake thing is a widely accepted headcanon however that was elementary school tim but after he stayed up for a week straight subsisting entirely on coffee to decipher the bat weekly patrol schedule and how it aligns with rogue attacks/Arkham breakouts, he crashed then when he woke up it was fucking wednesday so he missed his chance to commemorate his discovery with pictures of Robin and he decided that shit would never happen again and made himself an ‘efficient’ sleep schedule so he could run around doing fuck shit, add to his robin shrine, and stay on honor roll bc he was even more pissed to see the gotham gazette had pictures of Robin with an on site interview credited to Vicki Vale (listen bowl cut tim had a one sided beef with vicki vale that included tim judging who gets better pics of the bats but she isn’t even aware that she’s competing with a whole ass child 😭 he’s sitting at the table with a mug of orange juice and looks at the newspaper snorts and goes ‘fucking amateur I could do better’) 

Regularly unsupervised tiny businessman in training Tim ‘Ten hours of uninterrupted sleep?? That’s so inefficient not to mention fucking stupid’ Drake is so pissed he missed getting shots of Robin dropkicking a rogue from 6 six stories up (for absolutely no reason dick just thinks it’s fun) that he just takes at least 3 hour naps every eight hours 😭 he refuses to spend almost half a day sleeping ‘for no reason when he could be doing something productive’ 

And he still does this as a bat but it’s just easier to tell if he didn’t take his nap bc he has less than zero impulse control and he’s just fucking done with everything like the gcpd is terrified bc tim’s saying shit like ‘This guys a fucking moron, I could’ve done this in half the time without killing anyone fucking loser doesn’t he know if you keep them alive you can prolong the torture?’ and ‘you’re like all hysterical and for what 🤨 ‘you blew up 83% of Bristol waah’ stfu and fucking rebuild it?? It’s only rich mfs that live there, it’s just a matter of them opening their fucking wallets’ once a new recruit made the mistake of asking if robin had adult supervision regularly and Tim responded with ‘well if you’re gonna snitch to cps like a little bitch then yeah’ and that cop did snitch so tim fucking doxxed him

Yj has just accepted that sometimes they will find tim in an air vent, on the roof, in one of their closets, or something just fucking knocked out then an alarm will go off and he’ll just get up like nothing happened but for the first couple of months they were probably concerned bc ‘I’ve never seen you sleep?? wtf are you on man’ and Tim’s confused bc ‘I slept next to you this morning wdym??’ and that’s how yj discovers tim sleeps with his eyes open

But one of the worst things about Tim’s ‘time efficient sleep schedule’ nonsense is that it fucking works he’s one of the most well rested and coherent bats even after back to back Arkham breakouts however the absolute worst thing about his sleep schedule is the likelihood of going into the cave and seeing tim staring in a daze but wide eyed yet somehow never blinking at the batcomputer with 57 tabs open on top of being unresponsive and thinking he has a fucking concussion or he’s been replaced but he’s just doing case work while muttering nonsense in his fucking sleep for some reason

insurance makes sense on a conceptual level but in reality insurance companies turn decently huge profits by a) relying on things not happening, which they mostly don't b) ensuring things mostly don't happen by exluding anything that might make "things happening" more likely and stacking it in their favour and then c) finding any excuse and loophole possible to not cover you if anything ever does happen

like. insurance would be good if it wasn't managed by insurance companies

I finished my npl and placement yesterday so here’s free vet advice that everyone asks for

Insure your pets, in dogs and cats it is 100% worth it. And try to get to cover for the highest amount that you can afford. I can go into more detail about pet insurance if you want

Most flea treatment that contains ‘fipronil’ will not work, fleas have become immune to it. Often times only prescription flea medications will work or a seresto collar

If your dog is going in for a planned surgery, bath them the day before, make sure they go to the toilet the morning of and if your feeling like really making your vet nurses happy, cut their beard as short as possible.

Don’t breed your pet if you cannot afford a caesarean, ask for an estimate for one at your local and out of ours vets

If your male cat is constantly trying to pee but can’t, that is an emergency you need to take him to the vet straight away

If your rabbit or guinea pig stops eating or pooping that is an emergency you need to take them to the vet

If you have a deep chested dog and their stomach is swollen, they cannot lie down / rest, they’re salivating a lot and unsuccessfully trying to vomit, this could be an emergency you need to take them to the vet straight away

Euthanasia can be a kindness to some animals, I promis your pet isn’t angry at you for getting them put to sleep, they’re out of pain (mental or physical) now and you did the right thing

If your debating whether or not your pet needs to see a vet, just ring up and ask your vets

Your pet being overweight can be as dangerous for their health as them being underweight, check body condition scores and ask your vet nurse for weight advice if your not sure

H fronted dog harnesses such as Julius k9 harnesses can damage your dogs shoulders, especially if they pull a lot. Y fronted ones are safer.

Don’t get a new pet if you cannot afford routine vet bills, if you don’t have at least £100 you can spare for your pet to see the vet, you cannot afford that pet.

Vaccinate your pets, every year.

Try to have some sort of good dental health routine for your pet, dental sticks now and then don’t work. Enzymic toothpaste, plaque off, aqua dent, hills T/D do work.

Learn what pain looks like in your pet, search Glasgow pain score or ‘species’ grimace scale for more info. Remember, if you would be in pain in your pets condition, they are in pain and need prescribed pain relief.

Don’t give pets human over the counter medication unless you have specific instructions from your vet to do so. So many human medications can be toxic to pets.

Hi, do you have a sec to talk having a cat for a pet? I've been wanting to hit up the shelter and see if I can't take one (or maybe a pair) home for a good while now and while I have a smidge more money than even a few months ago, I'm still arguably Poor Enough that I've also been checking and rechecking to make sure I've thought about all/most the costs that are connected to cats.

Is there anything that you think people often forget about when they try to do the budget maths that's a bit more past the regular upkeep and standard stuff like surprise vet bills, insurance, 'fuck you I'm not eating this brand of food anymore', and periodically replacing stuff that either breaks or wears down?

I would hate to commit only to realise I don't have the funds after all, y'know?

ummm not really? remember to budget for regular yearly vaccinations. even if cats are 100% indoor you can still bring stuff in from outside so they could still get those illnesses and a lot of insurance doesn't cover routine care

honestly i don't have pet insurance at all because most of them cover fuck all for the first like... year (and 2 years in the case of dental which like. what) and the list of things they don't cover is ridiculous. if you're in the UK and financially struggling (you do not have to be unemployed or on benefits) you can register with the PDSA for reduced cost vet treatments. otherwise just hit up the least extortionate one and keep a separate savings account for potential vet bills.

(insurance won't even insure 2 of my cats because bean is FIV positive and siouxsie has a slightly dodgy kidney. i mean slightly. she doesn't even have to take meds for it that's how slightly. but these are "pre existing conditions" that invalidate them like again. what. is the point. of you)

but no you've not forgotten anything. outside the initial "buying everything" expense cats really aren't that spendy as far as pets go. if you can afford it i'd recommend buying food in bulk and larger bags of litter. it normally works out quite a bit cheaper to get like... 120 pouches of food once every 4 months than getting a small box every 12 days yanno (by the time the next shipment rolls around you'll definitely have enough if you just keep x aside a week for it it's just that first one that gets you) oh. boyfriend pointed out having a little treats budget too. sweeties.

Sitting around scrolling tumblr on my phone on Rosh Hashanah (after AM services) even tho I didn't want to be using tech, or at least was going to try to use it less, but I just... I don't want to sit and read or take a nap, but I'm not supposed to draw or write or do any work, but I'm so sick of my job and I'm like I have a little motivation to just look into other options, other jobs, grad programs, whatever, but I feel like I shouldn't do any of that today, but I can't do anything else productive, but I don't have another day off until Yom Kippur and I definitely don't use my phone or do work or any of that then, even if I don't fast, and then I'm back to work the next day after that which idk why I didn't request the 13th off bc it's not like going to services on a high holiday is really the same as a day off where I don't have anything like that to do? Like I don't have a day to work on art or my etsy shop or my website or job hunt until the week after. And I never really get stuff done on my 2 days off a week bc I Also have laundry and other things to do, and I will want to rest and recover from work, do nothing at all, without having to be exhausted by hours of standing at shul...like it's important to me to go and be there, I'm not complaining abt that, I'm complaining abt having to work tomorrow thru Thursday, and then back to work next Sunday thru whenever, and just.... I need to take a week off but my boss isn't jewish so to him THIS was basically a week off for me, so I'm not likely to be able to squeeze in a week off before Thanksgiving which is a no time off requests week anyway, and tbh I don't really want to be there anymore by Thanksgiving, but I don't have any time to work on finding another option that will include health insurance, and I'm just too tired when I get home from work in the afternoons/evenings, especially now my boss has me working really stupid hours. Like theyre trying to get me to quit or something idefk. (Like multiple not-technically-a-clopen shifts, like late mid on a Monday, opening on a Tuesday, late mid Wed, opening Thurs. Why???? Because he sucks he's a terrible boss and I'm so done with him and his attitude, he has turned the team from a fairly interactive group to a toxic environment to work in, with ridiculous expectations of us. Fr.) And I'm so done in so tired I hate this job and I hate that I hate it because it was actually SO good for a long time, I've been there nearly 4 years (started Oct 30th 2020, actually) abd it was my first full time job, my first real job tbh (blick was a seasonal position), and our original boss was such a good boss but the store leadership thought he was a bad boss probably because he was too nice for their liking (they also got rid of the 2 guys in store leadership who were super nice by sending them to other store) and even then it wasn't TOO bad bc our next boss was a good boss even if he wasn't as nice, and then he moved up to store leadership so my current boss Finally got to be in charge and he SUCKS at it. Anyway. Hate it and I hate that I hate it bc I loved it and I still enjoy aspects of it but I'm just miserable or worried or stressed or exhausted all the time, and I want to LIVE, maybe it's bc I live with my parents who are retired. Anyway so. Going back to where this started. I'm on my phone even tho I don't want to bc I want to do stuff that is definitely more like Work but I feel like I Can't do those things bc it's Rosh Hashanah, but I shouldn't be on my phone either Or I should do those things instead bc they'll help me secure my future vs just wasting time bc I'm Stuck, and I'm going to resent having to go to work tomorrow, and then I'll go to sleep late and get to work late probably which won't help anything. Or I could get off my phone and take a nap or read a book instead, I'm sure I'll still resent everything and be irritable later and tomorrow but I don't want to be using tech and scrolling tumbkr is just...like, that's what I always do, this is a day for not doing what I always do, my normal business, yknow.

Gonna add that Publix Pharmacy offers special discounts on medications if you don’t have insurance!!

Bonus, this can apply to your pet’s medication as well, as long as it is medication that humans also take. When my dog was on an antibiotic this summer, our first dosage was $320 at the vet’s office. But at Publix it was $80!! Please shop around for your pet’s meds.

ALSO ALSO sometimes a vet clinic will price match if a pharmacy can fill it for cheaper. This depends on your vet, but since ours is a small business we prefer our money going to them than a multi billion dollar corporation. (The antibiotic case was too much of a difference for the vet office to match)

Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
