Omg you're an MCR person and a SALS person why aren't we friends?? Let's talk about mcr what's your favourite song(s) from each album?
~ 🪴
we should be friends! :D
okay mcr!!! im actually excited to talk about this. im gonna try to limit myself to three favs per album of im gonna end up listing half of Three cheers
from bullets id say my favourites are Honey this mirror isnt big enough for the two of us and This is the best day ever. i feel like Honey... is a pretty popular choice. This is the best day ever has just won a place in my heart bc it sets such a specific scene
from three cheers for sweet revenge (which is my favourite album in general) my favourite would be thank you for the venom (one of the first english songs i learned the lyrics to lmao what a choice), the ghost of you (absolute heartbreak i rarely re-listen to it but it's so good) & im not okay
(i said that three cheers is my favourite album and like it is but. but black parade is also so good. all of it. and danger days??? that's like a whole separate category. but i think it's because black parade for me has more songs that i love separately while three cheers is something that i relisten to as a whole a lot as well as dd)
from black parade i especially love dead! (probably the second english song that i learned the lyrics to), sleep & this is how i disappear (was a whole soundtrack to one of my oc's. potentially still is?)
from danger days it has to be sing (& despite whatever criticism other people may have i also liked the glee cover) & destroya
i also have to include boy division (the transition between "looks that way - out nowhere, take me out there" is so good) and All the angels (im pretty sure it inspired me to write a fic once)

My Chemical Romance Dissolves Its Bond
Tumblr media
ANDY GREENWALD | March 25, 2013 | grantland.com
The first time I met Gerard Way was February 2003 in Chicago. I was fleeing a blizzard on the East Coast and profiling the Used, an up-and-coming screamo band from Utah whose singer, the maniacally disheveled Bert McCracken, was in the news for dating, then dumping, Kelly Osbourne. Gerard’s band, My Chemical Romance, was opening for the Used at the time and he and McCracken were well on their way to forming a chemical-based bromance of their own. One night the two kept me in the room with them until dawn as they drained the minibar, sent the concierge out for smokes, and made increasingly frequent trips to the bathroom. (Gerard later told me that bender was the inspiration for a song called “You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison,”which featured the lyric “do you have the keys to the hotel? / ’cause I’m gonna string this motherfucker on fire.”) Onstage, assuming they were able to stumble up to it, the pair were complementary as well: two stringy suburban weirdos peddling punk uplift bruised and blackened with mascara and talk of murder.
There were differences, though, too, and these were key to everything that followed. Flicking boogers and cackling like a banshee, Bert wore fame like a leather jacket. He flashed and strutted, naturally assuming the role of dangerous front man whether he had a mic in his hand or not. Gerard — a scared and sensitive wannabe comic-book artist who formed a band out of either depression or desperation in the wake of 9/11 — wore a leather jacket like a suit of armor. When I interviewed him in Brooklyn, a year later, for the release of what would turn out to be My Chem’s breakthrough album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, he refused to remove the stinking, sweat-stained garment despite the rising temperatures and the concerned looks of the yuppie clientele surrounding us at the coffee shop. It was what he needed to become a rock star, he said, or at least to not feel like a fraud.
It was his costume, the first of many to follow, and it instantly set him apart from the schlocky flock of adenoidal whiners that flooded the charts — and kept me eating! — during the emo boomlet of the last decade. Where other bands bleated about their breakups, My Chemical Romance snarled. Gerard, his kid brother Mikey, along with guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, refused to wallow in self-serving grief. How could they when they so clearly weren’t “o-fucking-kay”? They were misfits and dungeon masters, drama nerds and otakus. Most of all, they were performers, using light humor and heavy makeup to celebrate the majesty and ridiculousness of first feelings: love, death, the pain of piercings both literal and otherwise. They ganked attitude and artifice from Bowie and Queen, stole moves from the ’70s campfest Phantom of the Paradise, and dueted with Liza Minnelli. In the video for “Helena,” a Catholic funeral explodes into a goth Busby Berkeley review. It wasn’t a sing-along, it was a rallying cry. Plenty of bands had angst. My Chemical Romance had style.
Rock critics have long fallen back on superhero mythology to describe musicians; it’s a handy way to add grandeur to what tend to be fairly rote backstories, bending boring arcs of rehab and redemption into the Hero’s Journey, all in a quest to avoid quoting the drummer. But My Chemical Romance was the first group I covered that actually used that mythology for themselves. Gerard called his band “an idea,” labeled his fans an army. From album to album and show to show, MCR reinvented themselves across a multiverse of possibilities: They were soul-reaving vampires exacting revenge, the ghosts of a marching band returned to serenade you home, a gang of outlaw futurists using lasers and jazz hands to free the world from monochrome mediocrity. They had artistic ambition in a rock era that actively discouraged it, and they pursued it passionately without even a dash of irony. In that, they were just part of a great tradition of hardworking, self-made dreamers to emerge from the swamps of New Jersey, a wallet chain that stretches from Springsteen to Snooki. “We’re all about being the escape artists, throwing the fuckin’ straitjackets on, covering ourselves with chains and having somebody push us in the river. And then trying to get out of that,” a bleached-blond, clean-and-sober Gerard told me in 2006. We were sitting on a balcony overlooking Milan at the time, because the music industry was absurd back then and would fly you to places like that to interview people like him. “I think the world is ready for spectacle, for something big,” he said excitedly. “They’re ready for heroes, for something to believe in.”
Parts of the world were, anyway. The ravenous MCRmy spanned the globe, from Mexico City to Manila, a polyglot, multilingual militia that took solace in the band’s underdog triumphalism — and sometimes even took to the streets. I’ve never witnessed such intense fandom, before or since. Still, the resolutely black-clad supporters seemed skeptical of their beloved band’s slow progression into the light. 2010’s Danger Days was, to my ears, a glorious glitter-bomb of panic and disco, effortlessly mixing Detroit boogie with Weimar cabaret, summertime pop radio with Euroclub stomp. Gerard’s hair was a vibrant red — more Kool-Aid Man than arterial blood — and his new stage style was loose and breezy. The album eked out a platinum plaque, but its reception felt culturally inert, as if My Chemical Romance’s creative maturation had somehow skipped the groove of fight-or-flight survivalism that once grounded their fantastic excess. Gerard truly believed he was saving rock and roll by running around in the desert with a ray gun, but it was doubtful he could save his band from suffocation at the hands of a dying industry or the smothering embrace of fan expectation. He still believed in rock stars, but he also very much believed in Batman.
The last time I saw Gerard Way was in October at a comic-book convention in Las Vegas. His hair was its natural black but his mood was bright. He was in his element, there to celebrate his idol turned pal Scottish surrealist Grant Morrison. The event felt like a coming-out party for everything My Chemical Romance had screamed and bled about; it was a peaceful gathering of light-sensitive weirdos held in the shadows of the most garish place on earth. He and Mikey both talked animatedly about the sessions for their upcoming fifth album, which were well under way. But it did strike me that the larger battle had already finished. Gerard has a successful second career writing comics and movies and a pleasant life in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter. He’s free to doodle and daydream without worrying about the vagaries of record-label drama, the vast machinery required for global touring, or the fragile egos of increasingly far-flung co-conspirators. It turns out Gerard Way was the hero in his own story after all, and, unlike the “Patient” he played in the Black Parade, he wrote himself a happy ending.
He couldn’t quite manage the same for his band. My Chemical Romance announced their breakup on Friday night. They didn’t die in a gunfight or explode with the intensity of a million suns. Instead they just posted a note on their blog and called it a day. There’s talk of intramural squabbling and adultery scandals — feel free to Google; I’ve no interest in spreading the muck — but to me it feels more natural than reactive. What villains were left to face? What demons left to conquer? My Chemical Romance always aimed for the top, but the top no longer exists; all that remains is a vast, niche-y middle. Rock bands don’t want to be big anymore. Hell, if they’re smart they don’t want to be rock bands at all. In that, My Chemical Romance really were “The Kids From Yesterday,” the more or less last song on their more or less best record. “We’ll find you when the sun goes black,” Gerard sang, but I hope it doesn’t take that long for him to reboot. The thing is, I think the music industry needs a skyscraping fabulist like Gerard Way a lot more than he needs the music industry. For now, all I can do is take comfort in the fact that even Batman died once.

my favorite part of goncharov (1973) is after the big fight scene inside the san marco square clock tower when goncharov and andrey stand face-to-face both splattered with blood, as this was mcr’s inspiration for their “three cheers for sweet revenge” album cover

My first thought in regard to every band that gets played on my radio station
ACDC: Every dad’s favourite band
Adams, Bryan: Every mom’s favourite singer until Michael Buble came along
Aerosmith: haha they thought Vince Neil was a lady
Alice Cooper: he’s a Game Of Thrones fanboy and I have proof
Alice In Chains: my sister doesn’t like them because she decided AC were Alice Cooper’s initials ONLY
Allman Brothers Band: good music for dropping acid to
Allman, Gregg: That’s too many Gs for one name
Animals: House Of The Rising Sun, or who even cares
Argent: Sometimes Hold Your Head Up is really catchy
Asia: Tuesdays
Autograph: one of the members went on to be a pharmacist
Bachman-Turner Overdrive: There are just so many pop culture jokes about Taking Care Of Business that whatever I say won’t be as funny
Bad Company: with their song; Bad Company, off their album; Bad Company
Benatar, Pat: Always getting her confused with Patti Smith
Black Crowes: I like them for Lickin, but it doesn’t seem to exist outside of one shoddy video on youtube and my old CD
Blackfoot: this band name feels kind of racy
Black Sabbath: Dio was not better or worse than Ozzy; just different
Blondie: I like Call Me, but Blondie confuses me stylistically
Blue Oyster Cult: MORE COWBELL
Bon Jovi: Hello, childhood trauma, I missed you
Boston: ONE GUY. ONE GUY DID IT ALL AND NO ONE KNOWS
Bowie, David: Don’t let your children watch The Man Who Fell To Earth, or David Bowie’s will end up being the third penis they see in life
Browne, Jackson: Another musician ruined by Supernatural
Buffalo Springfield: Jack Nicholson was at the riot they sing about
Burdon, Eric: no ideas, brain empty
Bush: ditto
Candlebox: ditto once more. Who are these people?
Cars: This band feels so gay and so straight at the same time, I can only assume they’re the poster children of bisexual panic
Cheap Trick: I played Dream Police on Guitar Hero so fucking much because it was the only song anyone who played with me could keep up with
Chicago: Chicago 30 exists, but they do not have 30 albums. Fucking riddle me that
Clapton, Eric: 6 discs in one Greatest Hits is too many. That’s called “re releasing your discography”
Cochrane, Tom: For some reason, everyone thinks Rascal Flats did it better
Cocker, Joe: Belushi did it right
Collective Soul: who?
Collins, Phil: If his biggest hits were done by MCR, they would be emo anthems, but because he’s 5′6″ and from the 80s, they’re not
Cream: *Vietnam flashbacks on the hippie side*
CCR: *Vietnam flashbacks on the war side*
CSNY: David Crosby; meh
Deep Purple: THEY’RE SO MUCH MORE THAN SMOKE ON THE WATER
Def Leppard: the only music for when you’re a heartbroken bitch but also a sexy one
Derek And The Dominos: Clapton and ‘Layla’ broke up
Derringer, Rick: Tom Petty if he was from the midwest
Dio: You thought it was an anime reference, but it was me, Dio
Dire Straits: You can tell how bigoted a radio station is based on how much of Money For Nothing they censor
Doobie Brothers: I have yet to smoke weed, but I listen to the Doobies, and I think that’s pretty close
Dylan, Bob: I take back everything I said about him in my youth
Eagles: Hotel California isn’t their best song, but the memes that come from it are second to none
Edgar Winter Group: @the--blackdahlia
Electric Light Orchestra: Actually an orchestra and sound a fuckton like George Harrison
ELO: I really hesitate to ask what happens with the 7 virgins and a mule
Essex, David: no prominent memories of him
Fabulous Thunderbirds: cannot spell
Faces: Who on earth thought that was a good album name?
Faith No More: I got nothing

Foghat: Slow Ride slowly becoming less coherent feels like a drug trip
Foo Fighters: He was just excited to buy a grill
Ford, Lita: deserved better
Foreigner: dramatically overplayed
Frampton, Peter: a masterful user of the talk box
Free: dramatically underplayed
Gabriel, Peter: leaving Genesis changed him a lot
Genesis: if someone likes Genesis, clarify the era, because yes, it does matter
Georgia Satellites: sing like you have a cactus in your ass
Golden Earring: Twilight Zone slaps, but it doesn’t slap as hard as this station thinks it does
Grand Funk Railroad: Funk
Grateful Dead: I like their aesthetic more than their music
Great White: there are so many fucking shark jokes
Greenbaum, Norman: makes me think of Subway for some reason
Green Day: the first of the emo revolution
Greg Kihn Band: RocKihnRoll is literally the most clever album name I’ve ever seen
Guns N Roses: They have more than three good songs, but radio stations never recognize that
Hagar, Sammy: I’m still trying to figure out where he lived to take 16 hours to get to LA driving 55 and how fucking fast was he driving beforehand?
Harrison, George: He went from religious to rock, and if he had continued rocking, he would have gotten too cool
Head East: I respect people who use breakfast foods as album names
Heart: Magic Man and Barracuda are played at least once every goddamn day. They’re not even the best songs!
Hendrix, Jimi: I have both a cousin and a sibling named after Hendrix references
Henley, Don: Dirty Laundry gives me too much inspiration

Stray Cats: an obscene amount of merch is available for them
Styx: Supernatural would have ruined them for me too if I hadn’t been into them previously.
Supertramp: I hunted for Breakfast In America for two years and it was worth every hunt
Sweet: I will never understand my two-month obsession with Ballroom Blitz when I was 15, but it was legit all I listened to
Talking Heads: you may find yourself in a pizza hut. And you may find yourself in a taco bell. And you may find yourself at the combination pizza hut and taco bell. And you may ask yourself; ‘how did I get here?’
Temple Of The Dog: I keep confusing them for Nazareth
Ten Years After: somehow still relevant
Tesla: not the car or the dude
The Beatles: Evokes a lot of opinions from people. Mine is that I love them
The Clash: I showed my sister the ‘Lock The Taskbar’ vine ONCE and it still kills her
The Doors: evokes teenage terror from deep within my soul
The Guess Who: Canada’s answer to confusing question-themed band names
The Kinks: kinky
The Police: wrote the theme of 2020 and everyone somehow forgot it was about a teacher resisting becoming a pedophile
The Ramones: playing all of their songs in a row wouldn’t take more than 2 hours
The Romantics: you don’t think you know them, but if you’ve seen Shrek 2, you have
The Who: If someone can explain Tommy to me, I’d be glad to hear it
The Zombies: I think they happened because of the 60s
Thin Lizzy: Could the boys maybe leave town?

A Long Way Back - Part 1 of 2
Pairing: Gerard Way x Female Reader
Rating: General
Requested By: Anon
Word Count: ~7,900 total, ~3400 in part 1
Author’s Note: This request asked for current Gerard with a singer who is younger and to be honest, I started this request immediately when I got it, but I’ve been picking it up and putting it down on and off since then. I was inspired by His Smile Will Keep You Safe by @xxfanfiction-emo-trinityxx and I Know I’ll Lose by @sunsetinmyvein and while this story is nowhere near as long as their stories, I hope that you guys enjoy it regardless. I’ve also thrown together a playlist if you’re interested as well
Tumblr media
“We are Garden of Woe and don’t you ever forget it! Thank you Milwaukee!” (YN) shouted as the band hit their final notes and the lights went out. The crowd was cheering and (YN) felt that addicting mix of adrenaline and exhaustion that she always felt after an amazing show.
“That show was sick!” Liam the guitarist raved and (YN) nodded enthusiastically as she took a swig from her water bottle on the way backstage.
“Hey guys, great show as usual,” their manager Clark grinned when they walked in the dressing room. “Can I get your attention for a second?”
(YN) looked at her bandmates, a look of confusion shared amongst them. “What’s going on?”
“I didn’t wanna tell you guys before the show and have yall be in your heads, but” he paused. “You’ve been asked to open for My Chemical Romance on their US reunion tour.”
(YN) thought she was about to either faint, puke, or die on the spot. “Clark don’t fuck with us.”
“I’m not fucking with you.”
“Oh my god, this is, oh my god,” Jake the drummer muttered, a far away look in his eyes as Rebecca the bass player just stood there with a shocked look on her face.
(YN) sunk down on the couch, legs unable to support her anymore. “I had just hoped to get tickets to one of those shows,” she said with an astonished laugh, holding her head in her hands.
“Well if you accept, you’re gonna be going to every show, getting paid to be there, and getting more exposure than you ever could dream of,” Clark replied.
“I think I speak for everyone when I say hell yes!” Liam exclaimed, the rest of the band agreeing instantly.
“Then it’s settled, I’ll get in touch with their management tomorrow morning and you better get ready because you’re about to go on a wild ride.”
~
To (YN) it felt like an instant and an eternity at the same time before Garden of Woe departed for the first stop of the MCR reunion tour. A lot of buzz had been building around their band since it was announced that they, along with Taking Back Sunday for the first half of the tour and Crystal Lake Cemetery for the second half, would be opening the shows.
“Are you so stoked Becs? Are you? Are you?!” Liam shouted, shaking Rebecca’s shoulders excitedly as their bus rolled down the highway.
“If you keep doing that I’m going to barf on you,” Rebecca snapped back.
Everyone’s nerves had been on edge since Clark had told them the news and arguments had been erupting about things like the setlist, or what their merch would look like, and the tension only seemed to grow the closer they got to the start of the tour. Rebecca wouldn't even return (YN)'s calls for a week over a debate about what they should be wearing on stage.
“Oh my god Liam, I say this with all the love in the world, but please shut the fuck up,” (YN) muttered.
Liam, with his endless energy, bounced across the tour bus to where (YN) was sitting and climbed onto her lap. “You! This is literally what you’ve been talking about since you were 16 years old! This is why we formed Garden of Woe, why we’ve been struggling and starving for a decade!”
“I know, but you’re never gonna see the stage if you keep bugging everyone like this,” (YN) retorted to her friend in her lap.
“What are you gonna say when you finally meet them?”
“Will we even meet them?” (YN) asked, trying to sound aloof. She had been trying not to think about actually meeting the band that she had been obsessed with and saved her life when she was a depressed teenager back in 2004. When she and Liam founded Garden of Woe, she modeled her stage presence on Gerard’s after watching hours of live performance videos. When My Chem announced they were getting back together back on Halloween 2019, (YN) cried tears of joy for hours and they did an extra encore of just MCR covers at their show that night.
“We’re gonna be on the road with them for two months, of course we are,” Jake replied.
(YN) groaned. “I can’t deal with this right now,” she grumbled, pushing Liam off her before climbing into her bunk.
A while later Clark was calling her name to come out as they had arrived at the first venue. “Alright, here is the itinerary: you guys have soundcheck at 5:30, doors are at 6:30, you’re on at 7:30. After your set, you should get to the main merch booth to sign things for the fans, but you can watch Taking Back Sunday and My Chem if you’d prefer. Then two hours after My Chem finishes, we load back in and it’s on to the next stop.”
(YN) glanced at her phone, it was just before 2 PM, which meant they had hours before their soundcheck. Hours to build up more nervous energy, to possibly run into My Chem or Taking Back Sunday, another band she’d looked up to for just as long.
The bus rolled to a stop and they grabbed the things they’d need for the show that night and headed inside. There were other big black busses already parked outside and roadies moving things around.
“This is real, this is really real. This is the biggest thing we’ve ever done and we’re really here,” Rebecca said, totally astonished as (YN) linked arms with her.
“I’m really trying not to think about it,” (YN) replied. Even from the back of the stadium they could hear the crowd already waiting out front. When they got to the door, they flashed their badges and were escorted to their dressing room.
“Do we just wait here? Can we go walk around? I wanna go check everything out,” Liam babbled excitedly.
“How much coffee did you drink today, dude?” (YN) asked, trying to keep the nerves out of her voice.
“None. Come on, let’s get out there and meet our tourmates! Who is with me? (YN), Jake, Becs?”
Rebecca rolled her eyes. “I’m gonna try to calm down and center myself and not piss off the people who are employing us.”
“I’ll go,” Jake replied.
“Yea me too, get it over with,” (YN) mumbled. She’d met so many people touring and opening for bands she looked up to that it shouldn’t make her nervous, but Gerard, Mikey, Ray and Frank were legendary. The three bandmates started to wander the halls, peeking in doors until they heard people talking.
“Is this happening? Are we about to meet them?” (YN) looked at Liam, her heart hammering.
“Come on,” he said, grabbing her elbow and leading the way. “‘Scuse me, sorry to interrupt, but we wanted to introduce ourselves. We are Garden of Woe.”
“Hey, nice to finally meet you guys, I’m Gerard,” Gerard said, getting up to shake their hands. Jake and Liam introduced themselves like normal humans, but (YN) was screaming internally.
“I’m (YN),” she squeaked, and Gerard gave her an amused smile and she was certain her brain melted. Then all the sudden she was introducing herself to Mikey, Frank, and Ray as well and it was as if she had transcended to another plane of existence. She listened as they easily made conversation with Jake and Liam, but she couldn’t put together a coherent thought to join in.
“Are you ok?” she heard someone asking. Shaking her head to pull herself out of her thoughts, she realized it was Gerard.
“Yea, yea, thanks, just kinda overwhelmed by everything that’s going on,” she admitted.
Gerard nodded. “Yea, being back in the tour life has been kinda weird. Overwhelming, like you said.”
“For sure. And I don’t wanna seem like, I dunno, a crazed fan, but I have to tell you, I’ve been listening to you guys since I was 16 when Three Cheers came out. It got me through so much and your performance style inspired me so much and how I perform and yea. Sorry to ramble, I just had to get that off my chest, I won’t bug you about it again,” (YN) said with another shake of her head as she put her hands over her face. She didn’t know why, but tears were stinging at her eyes. “So sorry.”
“Don’t be,” he replied and he reached out and rubbed her arm. “We saw you guys performing and that’s why we asked you to come out with us. You have a lot of talent.”
“Well thank you, this is literally a dream come true,” (YN) blushed. Receiving a compliment like that from Gerard Way himself was mind blowing.
“My Chem, you’re up for soundcheck,” someone with a headset called from the doorway.
“We’ll see you around,” Gerard waved as they made their way out the door. After the band was gone (YN), Jake, and Liam stood alone in the dressing room silently for a moment.
“Holy fucking hell we just met My Chemical Romance!” Liam shrieked.
“I know!” (YN) shouted in reply, throwing her arms around her friends in a celebratory hug.
~
"(YN). Earth to (YN)," Liam said, pulling her from her thoughts. "You ready?"
"No, not at all," she replied and Liam could see the fear in her face. It had been a long time since he had seen her that nervous before a performance.
"You got this," he said to (YN). "We all got this, come on!"
Just then the stage lights dimmed and the crowd roared like she'd never heard before. The other three took their places on stage. "Fuck it," she muttered to herself and ran out on stage.
45 minutes later Garden of Woe was taking their bow and hurrying off stage so the roadies could switch out their equipment for Taking Back Sunday’s. The four bandmates were wrapping each other in sweaty hugs and jumping up and down, as the set had gone better than they ever could have hoped. After cleaning themselves up a bit, they went to the merch booth and signed autographs and took photos for a while, but the line cleared out again once Taking Back Sunday went on. After they finished, there wasn't much time before MCR were going to take the stage, so (YN) hurried backstage and found a crate to sit on and watch while the greatest band of their generation took the stage.
The show was absolutely awe inspiring; to watch the way Ray shredded on his guitar, the way Frank and Mikey moved around the stage, but most of all watching Gerard. He was a natural on stage, even after all this time away from it. While she had watched enough interviews on youtube to know that he was soft spoken, the way he turned that off and started to just command the stage and the crowd was incredible. What she couldn’t believe was that no one else was with her watching the show. Did they not realize what an opportunity they were missing she wondered.
"Enjoying the show?" Gerard asked when they came off stage before the encore.
"So much! You're kicking so much ass out there!" She beamed and the guys all laughed in appreciation.
Once the show was over and everyone was cleaned up, the bands all came together to celebrate a little before it was time to reboard the busses. The drinks were flowing for everyone that partook as people talked happily, but (YN) found herself without a place to sit until she decided to crash on Liam's lap.
Ray smiled as he walked over to them. “Hey, how’d the first show go?”
“Amazing!” Liam grinned.
“So amazing, but you guys, holy shit!” (YN) gushed. “I suppose when you’ve played together for so long you don’t just lose that, even after a break.”
"That’s true,” Ray nodded. “How long have you been a band?”
“About ten years,” (YN) replied. “We talked about it in high school, but neither of us could play an instrument, and life was so hard back then. We couldn’t get our shit together until after he graduated from college. It's only really been in the last few years we've been able to find some success with it.”
“So are you two together?" Ray asked, looking between the pair.
"Oh nooo," (YN) laughed. "Liam's practically my brother."
"And I'm gay," Liam interjected.
"And there's that," (YN) nodded.
“Well you guys have a real dynamic that works,” Ray shrugged. The way he treated them as if they were equals to everyone else on the tour was exactly the confidence boost (YN) needed as the tour got started.
~
The next few days of the tour were very much the same. Rolling into town, hurry up and wait, getting to know the guys in the other bands, and then finally getting on stage. After signing for fans, (YN) would rush backstage to watch MCR perform, and after that everyone would gather again until it was time to load back into the busses to the next town.
Each day was a little less nerve-wracking than the last and (YN) finally felt like she was coming out of her shell. She’d hoped that Rebecca would be her right-hand woman, since there were so few other women out on the tour, but Rebecca had been heading straight to the busses after the shows, instead of hanging out with everyone else.
“Do you have any idea what’s up with Becs?” (YN) asked the other two members of the band after their soundcheck.
“Nope,” Jake replied quickly before heading back behind his kit again.
“Just go talk to her,” Liam suggested.
(YN) grumbled before nodding and heading back to the dressing room. “Hey Becs!” (YN) said as chipperly as she could muster. “Are you gonna hang with us after the show tonight? I miss hanging out with you, and the guys are all super fun to talk to.”
“I dunno, maybe,” she replied, but (YN) couldn’t get a read on her mood.
“What are you gonna wear tonight? I was thinking my Mikey Fuckin Way shirt that I cropped,” (YN) said turning to their wardrobe rack.
“I’m gonna go to the bathroom,” Rebecca said before quickly turning and almost running out of the room. Moments later Liam came in.
“What the hell was that about?”
“I have no idea dude, I tried though, I really did.”
Despite the weirdness between Rebecca and the rest of the band, the show went well. (YN) again ducked out early from their signing to catch the MCR show from her favorite spot at the side of the stage. She couldn’t help but wonder if she was imagining things, but it seemed like whenever Gerard looked her way, he’d always smile just at her.
“Still enjoying the show?” Gerard asked when he came off stage before their encore.
“I’ve got years of not seeing you guys live to catch up on, I’m never gonna get sick of it,” she laughed.
Gerard nodded. “I caught your show tonight, you guys are really killin it.”
(YN) could have sworn her soul left her body for a moment. “R-really?”
“Yea, I really-”
“Gee, we’re back on,” Ray said tapping him on the shoulder.
(YN) waved him off as he went back on stage and the crowd roared again. She tried to keep from screaming herself, but for an entirely different reason.
At the end of the show, everyone convened as usual for the post-show celebration. (YN) was glad to find that Rebecca had joined the group, even if she was mostly just talking to Jake. She had meant to talk to her, but got pulled into a conversation with Adam instead.
“Ok, but can you teach me to swing the mic like you do and not kill someone?” (YN) asked with a laugh.
“Sure thing, how ‘bout after your sound check tomorrow?” Adam offered.
“Perfect, can’t wait!” (YN) grinned, but in the corner Rebecca was rolling her eyes.
From the other side of the room Mikey was trying to talk to Gerard, but he was noticeably distracted. Following his brother’s line of sight, realized Gerard was watching (YN)’s animated conversation with Adam. He bumped his shoulder into Gerard’s.
“You really are into (YN) aren’t you?” Mikey asked with a knowing smile and Gerard just shrugged dejectedly. “Why don’t you just ask her out or something?”
“I can’t,” Gerard replied.
“Why not?”
“Because.”
“Because why? Why? What good reason do you have?” Mikey argued.
“Because I’m older than her, because I don’t want her to feel obligated to spend time with me just because we’re on this tour together. Because I’m not… I’m not the Gerard Way I used to be.”
"What the fuck does that mean?" Mikey asked sternly.
"I know I'm not a sexy rock star anymore, I'm a divorced dad with grey in his hair and," he sighed. "You know what I mean."
"Gee, you know you're in a better place now in so many ways than you were before. Stop talking yourself out of it.”
Gerard just grumbled in response. He knew his brother was right, he was better off now than he was ten years ago, worlds better than he was even longer ago than that. But he couldn’t help but worry that (YN) wouldn’t be interested in him. At least not the current version of him.
But that didn’t change how he felt about her
~
The next stop on the tour was Riot Fest, but Garden of Woe would not actually be opening for My Chem and Taking Back Sunday. They had been relegated to one of the smaller side stages earlier in the day. (YN) and Liam were hanging out on the curb outside their bus in the warm, mid September Chicago air when Frank and Gerard came by.
“Hey, when are you guys on today?” Frank asked.
“At 4:30, why?” Liam answered
Frank climbed in between the two and pulled out his phone. “Gerard is always talking about how awesome your show is, so I was gonna promote you guys.”
(YN) looked up at Gerard who smiled shyly. “Well Gerard, why don’t you get in on this too then,” she smiled.
“Sure,” he nodded and sat down next to her as Liam took Frank’s phone and held it out so he could get everyone in the shot.
“Hey guys, we’re at Riot Fest, and before we play tonight, you gotta go check out our friends Garden of Woe," Frank said to the camera.
“4:30 on the Riot Stage,” (YN) added, flashing a peace sign before Liam finished recording. “Thanks guys, we really appreciate it. I don’t know how many people would be stopping by our set without the promo.”
“Well they should be, like I said before, you’re amazing,” Gerard replied as (YN) looked over at him with a soft smile. Over (YN)’s shoulder, Liam and Frank were exchanging knowing looks.
Hours later the band was waiting off stage, a few minutes before they were due to go on for their set.
“Holy shit, I didn’t expect the crowd this big,” Jake said after peaking out.
“I guess Frank’s post worked,” Liam shrugged.
“What post?” Rebecca asked.
“This one,” (YN) replied, pulling out her phone and pulling up the post she’d bookmarked. She let the video play, smiling happily at the four of them on the screen.
“Look at you all cozy with My Chem, what a surprise,” Rebecca deadpanned.
(YN) shot her a confused look and was about to open her mouth when Liam interjected.
“Ha, look at these comments,” Liam said, snatching the phone away. “People are totally shipping you and Gerard, (YN).”
“Shut up, no they aren’t,” she replied, but could feel her cheeks burning red.
“Yea they are, look!” He said pointing them out. (YN) scrolled through and couldn’t help but feel honored that people would think that she and Gerard made a cute couple. She could only imagine what it’d really be like.
“Don’t we have a show to play?” Rebecca asked snidely, snapping her from her thoughts.
“Becs is right, come on let’s get ready.” (YN) nodded, putting her phone away.
The energy of the crowd was great, and the fans that were up front were actually singing along, which brought a smile to (YN)’s face. An even bigger smile crossed her face when she glanced at the side of the stage and saw Gerard and Frank were there watching the show too.

E-Boy Shinsou HCs
A/N: this is inspired by @myherowritings who did a great SMAU called ´you suck at gaming´ , you should definitely check it out! (and her other stuff as well because damn...it´s good!!)
Fashion:
this boy would wear checkered vans and black boots
band shirts all the way
belts, chains, too much jewelry, rings, all of that is a go
I get a strong jean jacket vibe from him (those cool ripped ones that are oversized)
also ripped jeans and the typical black eboy pants
wears black nail polish (matte and shiny), occasionally silver one too
KING of eyeliner
and overall make up, this boy knows what he´s doing
but he´s too scared to wear it out, so he just does it at home
he also has tons of piercings and earrings
he always finds the best and most vintage things in the second hand store
is thinking about getting tattooes but is pretty unsure
Music:
now this is where it gets interesting
for one he makes his own music
it´s more in the indie, grunge direction
he also has a YouTube channel where he uploads covers of the songs he likes as well as his own music
I feel like he would love MGK and know all of his lyrics
Yungblud as well, seems like he´d be into The Cure and Palaye Royale too
now he absolutely adores MCR above all else (as you do as a true emo kid)
he literally always struggles which album and era is his favorite
he legit overdid the three cheers make up
but he rocked it so it´s fine
Games:
okay I´m not a gamer, so I´m making this part on the info I got from my gamer friends
I feel like he´d play Minecraft
LoL too and Overwatch, those are pretty standard I know
but he´d also play horror games like Fnaf
and unknown indie games he can flex with
honestly he´s such an elitist when it comes to games, he mostly really plays games that nobody fucking knows
a lot of beta versions too (makes him feel special, but not in an entitled way)
Hobbies:
HE´S AN ANIME BOY I DON´T MAKE THE RULES
he loves Naruto and will discuss it with everyone who´s willing
his favorite character is Gaara because that´s how edgy he is
lowkey wants to cosplay but is too scared (same insecurity as with the make up)
he also likes Death Parade and Bungo Stray Dogs
he has a tumblr account where he posts poetry and sprouts his anime theories and discussions (does really in depth character analyses)
somehow his poetry always gets reblogged and he gets so many compliments for it, he really doesn´t know how to deal with it but it makes him happy
is the literal fashion icon of Instagram and gets way too many thirst messages which is why he is on private now because it makes him uncomfortable

Note
just came across your blog and the way you write choso is absolutely gorgeous, like mind-blowingly so. like you /get/ him and the aesthetic he gives off. my forever emo kid brain has full on stopped working because of your writing (the choso brainrot is terminal) also a tiny little side note - bc this thought will not get out of my head & i think you'll get why - choso but major major major three cheers for sweet revenge era my chemical vibes (and i'm sorry if this is weird hjsdajahd 😭)
i’ve been hoarding this in my inbox for far too long because it’s so sweet to look at whenever i log in 😭🤲 gosh thank u so much this makes me so happy to read ur making my heart so WARM OMG !!!!!!
also YES YES i think choso had a massive mcr phase in middle school (that he definitely never really left) and choso definitely wld have been a huge three cheers stan – a t-shirt (or two) with the album cover, makeup inspired by the aesthetic, a habit of perfecting his resting bitch face and claiming that his classmates just didn't understand real music. i think that it’s his favorite album but i wouldn’t doubt that he also has a soft spot for danger days because it’s so overtly campy and fun

GERARD BEHAVIOR PART 1.
By the angel I don't even know how to start this. I want to make it clear that I'm a fan of Gerard and admire him for everything he's been through. MCR, like other bands, help me a lot BUT it doesn't mean that I will rub any of their heads because I won't! Oh maybe I separated this post into 2 parts because If it was not going to get too big and I don't want it because I know it gets tiresome to read. After making that clear (I hope) let's go to the post.
Note: This post is not intended to offend anyone, like any of my posts, but to show things that I found interesting and kind of hypocritical to tell the truth.
I don't know if I'm going to do it for topics or not so I'll just play around and see what comes out.
Frank, stage and feelings
Remember when G attacked F on stage?
youtube
At that time you saw people saying "If F does this to G (or another band member), no one bothers, why did F get away with it and not G? Frank does it all the time!". And the answer is simple, because he did that kind of thing all the time. F's character does crazy and random things like that, although you can say that even when he hurts someone, he's usually not being malicious, unlike what G did. If G had done this kind of thing on stage no one would have cared.
G strikes me as the kind of guy who would do the wrong things even more to prove an argument. This is also childish, but I see in it (less so at that time). It is as if he never grew emotionally. If you think about all the years he spent hiding and drinking, you can see how he would be emotionally stunted. And since sober, he has had other people. And it wasn't changing. He, looked and still seems to be, that jealous, fascinated and hurt boy who seems to be outside everything.
That time also had rumors, some that we already know is true others are just 'rumors' since there are several people who have seen it.
1.) G had returned to drinking.
2.) G is an emotional person. This isn't a rumor, but an opinion based on observation. He is a desperate person who clings to whoever is convenient. You have to wonder what kind of person would take advantage of that kind of desperation and what their movites would be.
3.) G left "Kat" while she had cancer. Again, this is a rumor, although people who claim to know him insist that this is true.
4.) Jimmy U. was seen by a concert-goer buying cocaine from fans after a show, while Donna was in the vicinity, no less. This is the band that MCR have decided to take on tour with them, and what most of us do know about addicts is that when they are in recovery, they cut all ties to people who are still using.
5.) G was lying to Lz about how long he stayed with "Kat". But that's another rumor that was going around at the time.
Life and relationships.
A quick pass through 'Kat'. G started dating "Kat" when he was 22. Her name isn't kat, people call her that because he called her katmandu on the thank you notes on three cheers.
Moving on, G seems to be those types of people who seem to change their minds based on what other people are saying or doing. First of all, he seems to change his mind about life's huge decisions with the flick of a finger. As you leave your 6 year old girlfriend on the phone for no obvious reason while she was already sick a few months later, call the next girl who was nearby (It seems all you have to do to get engaged or marry G is to be with him a few times). Rumors were that she asked him to marry and G wanted to get married, he said that in some interviews. So an anonymous letter, or really some of them, saying that Eliza is a slut for using him. The next thing you know is that his engagement is off. It seemed like he really took the ring between songs during a concert (leading to speculation that maybe he had slipped his finger during the show). A very quick decision after someone "told" him that Eliza was wrong for him (it is rumored that this person was F).
Next thing you know, G is looking for a place to settle down and he decides on Portland because he says he loves it there. In the past he's made a big deal out of saying that he didn't want to be one of those people who died in the same place they were born. So a few weeks after his announcement that he was "in love" they're married. And now? Now it's all great to just stay in New Jersey, because that's where she lives (remembering that he moved from NJ to truly begin his life. One definitely got the feeling that he did NOT want to stay there for many different reasons.)
So quickly, the things he's been so passionate about, they change, too. He no longer cares about sending a positive message to his young fans. The inspiring speeches, they stop. Because you see, all of a sudden they are not "cool" to say anymore. That humble, helpful person, he doesn't fit in with the new hardcore crowd he has to impress. That guy who had a positive message, he's uncool now. He has to go, and he's replaced with an onstage diva covered in hickies, with his hand down his pants half the time, having an uncharacteristic fit of anger here, bitching there. Being a badass, fitting in with the rest of the badasses. Does G ever make any decisions based on what he feels? Of does he just make decisions based on what the people he's trying to impress feel? Idk.
Here's a thing, there are people who are easily led by people he's currently into. They'll base their decisions on whoever means the most to them at the time (whoever they want to impress) and then everyone else takes a backseat. Everyone else's opinions stop mattering to them. They say things like "Why does it bother you that I'm happy?" and "Can't you let me live my life?" when they're really living someone else's. The people who have always been there for them, all of a sudden they are the bad guys. And the more those caring people push them, the more stubborn they get. They will stay in a relationship, a location, a job, a situation or what have you, even after they are sick of it and want out, JUST to prove a point. Just to prove that they were not wrong, to prove that they are living their own lives.
This post got big and I'm going to do a 2 part.

Musing 2: The Potential Sound
A lot of people seem to be afraid that if My Chem makes new music, it’ll be very “pop-y” and commercial (like Fall Out Boy after their hiatus as an example). I personally don’t think this will happen. My Chem are notorious for doing what they want to do, not what the label or the general “mainstream” public want to hear. They have explored different sounds on each album, and on their last album (Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys from 2010), they experimented a lot with synths and electronical sound effects, but it was still through and through punk rock.
If you listen to the music Gerard put out in 2016-2019, his music is still categorized as rock. The only song I can think of that isn’t straight up rock is “Into The Cave We Wander” from 2016, which is a beautiful and slow song, but still very experimental, as you can hear violins, synths and some kind of horn? (I honestly can’t tell and google won’t help me). Midway through the song we hear sound effects that are supposed to replicate you being inside a cave. There is rain dripping and bats flying around, and laid over that is Gerard’s haunting, echoing vocals.
“Baby You’re A Haunted House” (2018) Appears to have a positive sound to it (not that that’s a bad thing, and if you read into the lyrics you find that it isn’t positive at all), and includes a heavily fuzzed guitar. It sounds a lot like his stuff on Hesitant Alien (2014) and is a fuzzy power-pop song.
Gerard’s experimentation is especially evident on the track “Getting Down The Germs”, which includes the flute played by Sara Andon. Loudwire writes “it’s a stripped-down, feel-good song reminiscent of ‘60s psychedelic music and new school indie rock.” The flute is most likely referencing flute in rock music in the ‘60s and ‘70s (See: King Crimson and Jethro Tull). Gerard also said: “It’s a very calm affair that shows a peek into where I may be headed musically”. Speaking of ‘70s bands -a huge inspiration for the guys in the band-, many of these bands were inspired by nature, pagan culture and mythology. I feel like there is another connection to the magick-y we might be getting here.
On the tracks for Umbrella Academy (covers of “Hazy Shade of Winter” and “Happy Together”, 2018), Gerard and Ray are going for a bit “heavier” sound in comparison to the previously mentioned songs (Ray Toro fucking shreds on “Hazy Shade of Winter”!!!), and they remind of a lot of what MCR did.
Although Gerard has always been the leading force in how MCR sounds, the guitarists own personal sounds have influenced the band’s sound a lot (Frank’s punk roots, and Ray’s metal/classic rock roots). If you have paid attention to Frank’s solo work (Stomachaches, Parachutes, Barriers) he’s still very much punk rock. He shreds and screams like he always has (See: “Fever Dream” and “Moto Pop”). And if you have listened to Ray’s “Remember The Laughter” from 2016, you know he’s still into crazy riffs.
My conclusion is that, while a lot of fans are hoping for a Three Cheers For Revenger 2.0, that’s not what we’ll be getting. I do hope we’ll get some great rock bangers, but seeing where they’ve all headed musically post-split, we probably wont hear something like “Hang ‘Em High” coming from them, and I’m okay with that, Based off of Gerard’s recent stuff I’m guessing it will be experimental, occult, mysterious and perhaps with folk rock elements mixed in with Frank’s punk-esque guitars and Ray’s badass solos. Knowing My Chem, they’ll do something that has never been done before. It will be unique, unexpected and totally different. Maybe we’ll hear the flute again, or some other “non-rock” instruments? Maybe we’ll get some cool effects like in “Into The Cave”? Whatever it is, I have hope in them. People that want another angry punk-rock album from My Chem might find themselves disappointed, but I personally love shit like that. Keep in mind this is just me theorizing! I’d love to be proven wrong by them and have me look like an idiot (if they release an album) haha.
Are you excited for new music, and what do you think it will sound like? Let me know what your thoughts are!
