The more I write on this Inspector Gadget AU thing the more I'm just like... there is no way John would get together with Brenda in this scenario.

Which is really annoying because I think they're a really cute couple in the movie.

But like.... there's going to be bitterness on John's part til the end of time once he processes the whole thing. He hates this woman.

While a love interest is by no means necessary, I also would feel bad putting him through all this and then not let him have something.

Right now the only thing that drives his will to live is a determination to care for Penny.

I never actually watched the sequel so I don't know what his canon relationship with G2 is like. I kind of assumed because she was a new and improved (and fully robotic?) Gadget he was a little jealous or something before she wins him over in some way. An act of amazing heroism or something.

I suppose I should actually watch it at some point, but I like my interpretation and don't want it ruined.

But also I don't know that my AU John would relate to a fully robotic Gadget....
