Medical intuitive healer Catherine Carrigan interviews Ani Anderson, CEO of New Health Inc., about how to motivate yourself to make the change you want. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGODK1RMxFg&t=1215s Questions addressed in this interview include: What is motivation? What does it mean to find our why? What are the 5 stages of change? Why do different methods of motivation work at different stages of change? Why might some of the stress people are feeling actually be resistance to change? Do people resist change more when the change is imposed by something or someone outside of themselves? Why do teenagers rebel against outside rules? How come stress reduction isn’t enough to help someone who’s dealing with change resistance? How can we find our why even when big change is not required of us? How can we stay motivated during change? How can identifying our core values help us discover our true motivations? How can identifying our emotional blocks to change propel us forward in our motivation? How can identifying roles we play help us get unblocked? How are motivation and stress similar neurologically? How come trying to be motivating can make other people less motivated? How can changing the people we hang out with us empower us to stay motivated to make positive change? Why do you say that everyone is motivated? How can bypassing the survival centers of our brain help us to create sustainable change? How can self love and self acceptance empower us to create sustainable change? Why is it better for leaders, coaches, therapist, managers etc. to tap into a persons innate motivation rather than being “inspiring”? How can we set aside our ego and connect to our soul to empower others to find their own soul motivation? #motivation #medicalintuitive #medicalintuitivehealer #authorsofinstagram #healingthemind #innermotivation #thereasonwhy #findingyourwhy #naturalhealing #naturalhealth #healing #emotionalhealth #fivestagesofchange #change #transformation #top100values https://www.instagram.com/p/CU7qLTbLEOe/?utm_medium=tumblr

A tale of the lost and hopeless that crossed the road
It was EXTREMELY hard coming up with a blog title, let alone a title for my first blog entry. My goal of creating this blog and to name it: She believed she could, so she did so that I can inspire many people in the internet world that they too can overcome any struggles they are currently facing.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it is crucial for all of us to acknowledge it and also to be there for our loved ones.  I suffer from chronic depression and generalized anxiety disorder, but I don’t let those two mental conditions label me like that. Before my last episode, I was a pleased individual. I was young, in a “perfect” relationship, I was loving and living life. Middle to end of 2016 became my dark phase. I felt I was sinking deeper and deeper into the depression hole, and I felt that this time around, I couldn’t get out.
I’ve dealt and seen a lot throughout my young years, and I didn’t let any of those circumstances suck me into a depression well.  I reached out to the closest people in my life at that time, and they thought I would be able to overcome it, like the many times I’ve surmounted specific issues in the past. They would say “you will get over it. You’ve been through so much before, and this time won’t be any different’.  https://gph.is/2lY6NcT
This time it was totally different. I attempted suicide, and I was hospitalized. I’ve never felt so hopeless and worthless. I’ve never felt so empty my entire life. I never thought I was going to attempt suicide; I had a beautiful relationship, and I was super happy with my significant other at the time. My significant other was my motivation. Unfortunately, my depression took that motivation and happiness away from me. Love wasn’t my savior; depression wanted me gone, and for a split second, it almost gained defeat.
[A month and a half later] The fairytale relationship ended. I was more alone than ever, and I felt like a lost child in the middle of a busy New York City subway platform.  It took me a while to find the exit sign so that I can see my way out of that busy subway station, but I did find it. I was hurt, and I thought I was gonna fall again because I didn’t have the one thing that made me feel complete. A voice that I pushed away for awhile arose and told me, you will be okay, my dear. Hold on to hope.
I listened to that voice, and I did hold on to hope. It wasn’t the hope that I would meet someone again someday, but it was the hope that I will be stronger than ever and I can overcome any obstacle that would come my way. Months into the healing and closure process, I wanted to start fresh. I decided to stop taking my anti-depressant medications and focus on alternatives. I turned to yoga, dance, swimming, running, and etc. It was enjoyable, but it wasn’t my medicine. I bought a Groupon for a kickboxing studio, and I went for my first class and fell in love. I was an avid member, and worked my ass hard! About five months into kickboxing, I wanted more. Although the studio taught me the basics--jab, cross, and roundhouse kicks--, I wanted more training. I was web browsing, and I came across the Bronx Martial Arts Academy--a Renzo Gracie school. I saw on their webpage that they offer Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing. I was a woman that HAD NO IDEA about martial arts or the types of techniques within it. All I knew that I wanted to learn and grow. If I can strike and give hard blows, then sign me up!
Muay Thai, the art of the eight limbs, became my obsession, my passion, and above all my addiction. When I went for my introductory class, I followed the instructor, and I was hitting at his command “jab cross, jab cross HOOK! Give me a roundhouse, two left roundhouses!!” I ended that session dripping in sweat and challenged. I had all this adrenaline rush throughout my body. I signed up immediately and gave my deposit.
I was officially part of the BMAA family, and I couldn’t wait to start my training there. My first official day fell on a Tuesday, and when I stepped foot on the mat, and I was working with my partner, my instructor saw me and said: “ I have to keep my eye on this girl, she is good, and I can make something out of her.” He saw I am a natural fighter. He was absolutely right.
Most of my life, I had to fight to be happy, and not be succumbed to the disparity. I had to combat those who wanted to drag me down, and I had to battle the depression of those in my life and who was drowning in their hurt, guilt, and trauma.  I did fall, but I eventually got back on my feet and tried so hard not to look back.
My passion for Thai boxing led me to learn the beautiful art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  My mission isn’t to be promoted to a higher belt (it would be sick when I do), but my goal is to learn, practice, and gain creativeness within the art.  I see so many BJJ students, and I am AMAZED at their skills and technique. Unfortunately, there aren’t many women in martial arts that get the spotlight as men do and I hope one day I can be someone’s role model in Muay Thai and/or BJJ.
Martial arts saved me. I no longer cry, and I am no longer in pain. I don’t desire to be in a relationship, and I definitely don’t wish to date someone seriously. I enjoy going to training Monday through Saturday.  On the days I am not training, I would head over to Yankee Stadium and watch my favorite team, NYCFC play.  When there isn’t a home game, I would stay at home and attempt to finish a level in Assassin’s Creed II. I enjoy the leisure time that I have, and  I love my own company. I am not lonely, and I am not moping around like a sad puppy. I keep myself active and alert because I cannot entertain depression and let it retake control of me. Anxiety is a bitch that continues to make a big entrance, but I tell that hoe that I am in control. I was almost defeated once before, but I definitely came back stronger and more motivated than ever before.
From here on, I will be sharing my stories, post inspirational quotes or pictures, share a lot of my martial arts training or clips of certain individuals that inspire me in the arts. Remember, nothing is permanent, and anything can be achieved. Always hold on to hope, even though it feels like hope has left. Hope will hide, but it will resurface. Just believe my friends. Osss.

You know from your own growth that real change is possible. Even those who have caused much harm have this same dynamic possibility. Some may change faster than others, but the truth is that with the right inner motivation anyone can become a better version of themselves.
