From the inland hurricane that tore through the state I live in. These are pics from around my dorm. A tree almost bust through my dorm window.
The sad thing is. These trees are like 100 years old and they died.

I was on stage, pretending to be someone else-
Mostly for fun
(people seem to like the version of me on stage, Judy, Peggy, Carmen, Baker, faceless woman in chair, the person doesn’t matter, the energy does)
The night was over, but my face was still not my own.
I stepped out into torrential rain-
It did its best to wash off my makeup.
It smelled of the sea.
I almost cried.
Take me back to the sea,
Let me be daily renewed with the tide.
Let me be different, yet always the same, with every daily cycle,
Clean me off and strip me down with salt.
I don’t want to be someone else.
I just want to be (as many versions as I can of) me.
Stop bringing the sea to me.
It just reminds me what I am missing.

#The storm didn't hit my town but it sure ate alive everything around us and what it didn't eat it certainly chewed up and spit out#I'd appreciate some reblogs on this folks- this is a rough time for a lot of places that were underprepared for this freak occurrence#Towns further inland even 300 miles from the coast got slammed HARD and no one would've expected this and only had days to evacuate#hurricane helene#hurricane helene relief#mutual aid#disaster relief#asheville#north carolina#georgia

#ugghhh here we go again#''why dont you LEAVE!''#because we live over 35ft above sea level and are not in any evac or flood zones#like we are dozens of miles inland. and we actually live here and know the area.#unlike you. sheltered woman who has lived in 1 small midwest town her entire life.#not to mention we have a dog who we cannot take on a plane and it is unsafe to be stuck in a car during a hurricane.#but noooo i am so stoooopid#i am just an idiot floridian.

#I’ve got a lot of family in Florida who are in the direct path of hurricane Milton#They’ve moved inland a little bit from where they actually live but several of them are elderly and they’re houses are gonna be hit hard#I know tumblr isn’t really a religious place but if anyone wants to add them to their prayers I would appreciate it#I’m hoping they’ll all be okay; they’re pretty well off so the situation is not as bad as it could be#Like I said a lot of them are well into their old age or have preteen-teen kids

It's WILD to me that we're experiencing the effects of Helene up in Ohio
Like it's like a fraction of a fraction of what's going on in the south, but still the same system. The arms or whatever of the hurricane system are slapping US with wind and rain rn like that's WILD
#marquilla#i mean yeah we get the after effects of MOST hurricanes that are within reach of us but like idk those are usually not so... inland?#like to have it reach from florida to ohio feels significant idk#it's very much a bad thing like climate change is terrifying but it's also just... so fucking crazy to me idk

South Florida on the east coast. Reassuring to hear that you're only getting heavy winds. Are you afraid of the winds or do you want to stay up to make sure your baby is okay?
OHHH okay yeah you seem okay then.
and both
#bc if baby wakes up it'll be due to hunger like usual. not bc of the hurricane so in the back of my mind i know theyre good and safe#but still#never really had a hurricane this bad reach so far inland so quickly#winds are at 140mph rn so im probably only getting less than half

Nothing like a freak flash flood pouring into your dwelling to stress you tf out :c
#never happened here before so ig I thought I was safe in my ‘far-enough-inland’ bubble#wasn’t ready for the sudden daunting task of cleaning up/trying to salvage stuff/throwing so much out#it’s all I’ve been doing with every single free moment since Aug 18#I’m very grateful i didn’t lose even more than I did#but also very sad that my childhood art got ruined. and a lot of books/shoes/other stuff that was so important to me :(#‘It was a once-in-a-century event here!’ the articles say#yeah but with climate change it’s probably going to happen more often now so imma be paranoid😭#I can put up with a lot living on long island but I don’t think worrying abt flooding is smt I’m cut out for#even the hurricanes we get nvr rly do much damage in the cozy area where I’m at. so I was woefully unprepared#my mental fortitude is not. is not fortified enough for this. help#i shouldn’t complain I know I know. Just need to take a breather and de-stress now that the week’s done and I’ve done all I can on my end#hopefully ppl can come rip out the carpets/sheet rock and replace them soon bc the stench of mold/mildew is getting pretty bad ugh

Who in Columbia, MO, angered an elder god?
watching this storm system on Doppler radar - it's bigger than Missouri, building and spiraling in place, centered right over the middle of the state like a curse

The ten years in Florida really got to me. They’ve been reporting for days on the catastrophic rain we’re going to get over the next couple of days and they’re closing schools early and warning everyone and the amount of rain is like, a regular Tuesday in Florida. I just keep seeing the numbers and wondering what they’re so worried about, lmao.
#I forget that not everywhere is prepared for that kind of deluge#infrastructure wasn’t built here to deal with it like it is down there#after ten years there I didn’t freak out about hurricanes either but I was inland so it’s different than on the coast#I just remember my first big one standing in publix and watching one lone can of Lima beans roll down the shelf like an apocalypse movie

I MIGHT be doing too much but I have an emergency bag, some of our important electronics, important making a gobag with clothes and pads for me and mom, and at home we've drinking water and cooking water in case something happens to the supply here.
Listen, on a normal day I'm already paranoid, but now? Double.
Still worried about the backyard and whether or not the excessive rain will make it all go down the hill 🫠
