July 4, 2023 - Day 190
Hubbard’s Glacier, Alaska
In the comments section “easyasgoingtothedentist” asked the following question so I thought I would try and answer. My response is probably too long but I wanted to give it a go so here it is.
Question = “It’s hard to believe you have been on this journey for half a year now. With one month remaining, would you reflect on your favorite places and where you would return to? Any comments on the world atmosphere post-Covid which you have experienced? How about any interesting people you have met on the ship? Which ports did they embark? What nationality were they? It has been really fun to read of your escapades. Thank you. Oh- and could you please post a map of the rest of your ports-o-call?”
Thank you for your note. I appreciate that someone is actually looking at this. It is hard to answer your first question because there have been so many but let me give you a few statistics before I try.
On this trip we have visited 44 countries with 117 stops in different cities. I keep track of how far we go each day and the two screenshots below show my mileage markers. To date we have traveled 51,430 miles and have 7,195 miles to go for a total voyage of 58,625 miles. As far as the rest of the voyage we will be visiting Sitka, Ketchikan, Prince Rupert, Victoria, Astoria, San Francisco, Cabo San Lucas, Zihuatanejo, Puerto Quetzal, Puentarenas, Cartagena and Great Stirrup Bay in that order. We weren’t allowed to land in Peru or Myanmar because of political unrest and missed Kodiak Island and Hubbard’s Glacier because of weather. Because of CoVid we were the first cruise ship to return to many of the ports and there were extremely happy to see us. Bands, dancing and big welcome signs were common. Many of these places depend on the tourist business and there were many closed businesses and restaurants that didn’t survive.
The average age of people on the ship is 72, the oldest is 92 and the youngest is 23. Five people have died during the voyage, there was one helicopter evacuation because of a heart attack, there have been 8 people that have broken arms, legs and wrists because of falls and 2 couples have been kicked off the ship because of misbehavior. The ship doesn’t advertise these events so there may have been more but these are the ones I know about.
Three hundred and fifty of the Around The World passengers got on and will get off in San Francisco. Fifty seven got on and off in Miami and NewYork. Half the passengers are from the US, 25 % from Canada and the rest from other countries including Switzerland, Germany, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Holland, Israel, Mexico, Columbia, Turkey and two Ukrainians. The passengers are fairly affluent with representation from all races, colors and nationalities. Most are retired but some still working a little. The professions include medical Doctors, lawyers, engineers, book authors, a retired bus driver, a police detective, a tobacco factory owner, university professors, bed and breakfast owners, medical laboratory technicians, the owner of a Canadian lumber company, the chief architect for Home Depot, high school superintendents, a physiologist and many more that I don’t know.
The crew is even more diverse. The Captain is from Croatia and most of the officers from Eastern Europe. There are only about 8 of the crew that actually work for the cruise line the rest work through a contract company and are mostly Indian, Philippino and Indonesian. The chef and ship manager are French.
As far as places I would like to go back to there are many so let me just pick one or two from each continent. The highlight of the trip was Antartica. Amazing scenery, amazing animals and absolute desolation. In South America it would be Punta de Este, Uruguay followed by Puerto Monty, Chile and Recife, Brazil. In Africa it would be the Seychelles followed by Cape Town, South Africa and Walvus Bay, Namibia. In the Middle East it would be Muscat,Oman. Dubai, of course, is great but it is just a big international city. In South Asia it would be Columbo, Sri Lanka. In the Far East all of Japan was great but if I had to pick it would be Hakodate and Kobe, Japan followed by Ha Long Bay, Vietnam and Singapore.
Politically my biggest surprise was how strong the Chinese influence is in many of the countries especially West Africa. The situation in these countries is very sad. It is to much to discuss here but basically the vast majority of people live in extreme poverty with the few people in power selling off the resources of the country to China to enrich themselves. The Chinese then move their people in to gain land and resources at the expense of the local population.
Another surprise and disappointment was what I saw in San Diego and San Francisco. The downtown streets are lined with tents and cardboard boxes housing the homeless. There were many many more than I saw in even the poorest countries we visited. I am not going to get into the reasons I think this is happening but there is definitely something wrong in these cities and it needs to be fixed.

log<<u:AMouve>>ENTRY|4
21XX.09.20 [1424] Designation: 61-409 Unit: JF-06 'Fritzy'
The grit gets everywhere.
They'd sent me out on patrol to sector 4.4.47𝛷 after the mission at Nerota. Colonel called it a "restful patrol". Islands, calm, thousands of miles away from the front. Warm sun, crashing waves, yellow-white sand.
I kept waiting to get the call back to the front; what had I done wrong to get sent out here? Why were they punishing me for a successful mission? Did they think I was a coward for not engaging Jackknife? Did the SCS logs say I hesitated before taking the shot in the courtyard?
I keep asking them what I did wrong, and their voices grow soft. "Just try and rest for a bit," they'll say over the radio, and its so patronizing my SCS ups my cortisol to keep me from vomiting.
Each day when I come back from pointlessly patrolling the world's most beautiful jail cell, I take my evening meal back to Fritzy and review the other CHVLR logs. The war's not going well. When they first rushed me through training, there were thirty of us. Now, we were down to eighteen. And the reports didn't say anything about new recruits coming.
It was the fifteenth day of patrol when I snapped. Fuck these mission parameters. If they're not going to respect me, respect Fritzy, and give us something to do, then I won't respect their OpSec. I parked Fritzy on an atoll, nine clicks from the resort-base, and popped shell.
Riding the ladder down to the beach, I felt my senses slowly wake up from the SCS synctrance, and I realized that nearly anyone else would weep to see the sight. The water was such a brilliant blue, azure, with waves that crested white with foam. Even through the pilot suit, I could feel the radiant heat the sand beneath me had drunk from the sun above. I reached down to run my fingers through it, and winced to see the grit stick to my suit.
I looked up, saw the blank blue of the sky. It's so strange, really, how a cloudless sky changes hues. A natural vignette, darkening at the horizon. A dome of near-monotone.
Something flashed briefly in the sky above. Then another three; near-white, but with twinges of orange and pink. Then, suddenly, a daytime star shone out. Bright, growing brighter, and moving.
I sat on the beach and watched it for a while, until the gnawing in my gut grew too wretched to bear. With a sigh, I climbed back to my feet and climbed back into Fritzy.
All units, return to base. Priority Zero. All units, return to base.
Well, fuck.
It wasn't until the next morning that we got official confirmation, but infosec was so light at the resort that I'd heard the news on commschat when taking Fritzy into dock.
The rebels had strapped a half-dozen thrusters onto the hull of the Drenthe-6 industrial orbital and run a four minute counter-burn. Timed just as Drenthe-6 was reaching it's perigee, the station's orbit was terminal. Best case scenario, we could keep her aloft for another ten days.
About 45 minutes after hearing the news shared officially, Fritzy and I got our marching orders. Drenthe-6 was projected to make landfall in the central Atlantic. Everything coastal would be obliterated by the coming waves.
Fritzy and I are being sent to Forward Operating Base Sirocco to oversee what evacuations could be managed.
There won't be a lot of rest time after this. All the best; I'm more comfortable in the cockpit now.
Lexi Mouve, signing off. [[admin_only:stk7_d6=4_di3diKcl7(n)cl6(n)||ftk7]]

Along with the stone ships possibly launching tonight there will be an evacuation
-this is a huge evacuation we're expecting about 300 1 mi ships 400 1/2 mi ships and 2,000 smaller ships and about four or five two mile ships in each river is two Rivers we're talking about and 10 three mile ships in each River and 20 5 mi ships in each River that's right 20 5 mile ships in each River. Okay it's more like 10:00 for both and that's five each other other than that you would have no water it takes too long to refill and the s*** would blast all the ships right out cause a huge pile of ships anyways it is a lot five Mile ships and all those other ships are going to create a current and a draw at first they're going to leave around 3:00 a.m. of course oddly enough it's a weird time it is exactly low tide which is not really the time to leave and they're trying to plow the skeletons out that's what it looks like they keep saying no and people are wondering why they're leaving at low tide you won't be able to detect them in the waves won't get here and that's one reason and they won't get elsewhere there might be something to do with the crabs who go out to see and that's more so the reason and he didn't know that about them and that's what they do they leave on the receiving tide it's cuz the food usually goes out there regardless they do it and it is going on three and then they come out at about 12:00 noon and by then half of them are out but these are going to take until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. but at that time there will be huge ships coming out and rains and this place is going to fill with water the harbor will fill right now we're down to about 59 in after tonight because it did rain tomorrow it's going to be at in the morning at 3 in which 63 in which is needed that means at high tide it's about 31.5 in roughly it's a little more and that's almost 3 ft and it's needed at high tide no by the time the rain gets here it will be about midnight and it will be down about 40 in and we'll need every bit of that but it's going to come pouring down since it's low tide it's going to come down in like waves and it's going to blast the s*** on and a lot of it and would really need it to happen right now it's still 10 feet or so left in the harbor and two feet in the canals in about 8 ft in the river and we think it'll blow two or three feet out it's definitely needed we really need that to happen this place stinks it's terrible and the rain will come here and it'll wash all the crap out and boy is this tight I told people it's too tight and I think we're not right and they said it is a really tight place and it's not good so after tomorrow this place should be crap free if it doesn't flood but usually it doesn't flood that bad here it'll fill the canals it might come up into the drainage trenches that would be coming up really 4 or 5 ft which is a lot more than we think it would do and the waves from the ships will be gone long gone and they would have had taken the crap out of the way for the other crap to get in there and it's going to work but it's huge and we're going to publish
Thor Freya
They're taking a lot of stuff and we don't want them to but they did manage to take stuff and they're taking weaponry and they're going to bring it they're going to try and bring it to the islands out here and the pseudo military empire is going to stop them
It's going to be a battle and it won't take long and it's going to start to attract the crabs and several ships will be destroyed a lot of them they're going to have about 800 combat ready ships and usually they blow the ships to hell and is not left there's not much left to the people and you do that on purpose they're not stupid about the crabs if the crabs advance they will go behind them and kill crabs and they go after that and that's really savvy

KUVIRA WINS STORY/ NEXT AVATAR (SUMMARY)
--I’m not going to finish this. I haven’t touched the story in years. Honestly I just don’t want to write something as bleak as this story anymore, I was in a weird place when I came up with this. However, I am still fond of it, and I think it’s some of my more solid writing (I wrote 25k) if you can forgive the more edgelord elements, but I won’t be finishing it. I will say this was never meant to be tonally similar nor do I want this story to happen in canon, it was just an extreme ending to book 4 I found interesting to explore.
CONTWNT WARNING: This takes an extremely uncharitable view of Kuvira and is overall pretty depressing, so be forewarned that this story summary mentions death and one instance of rape.
So, general backstory:
- The hummingbird suits fail and they don’t manage to enter the colossus. Jinora is seriously injured, and the group try and regroup but are captured.
- Kuvira drugs Korra with the toxin that incapacitated her that time in Zaofu the Red Lotus tried to kidnap her. Kuvira executes Bolin, Varrick and Zhu-Li for betraying her (this story is bleak...)
- Kuvira tries to win Korra over by talking to her and appealing that they’re similar. This doesn’t work, and also Kuvira just executed Bolin. Anyway she eventually gets pissed and tortures Asami and Mako in front of Korra. Korra manages to break through to the Avatar State but as she is poisoined she is not all powerful and Kuvira manages to kill her. Korra dies surrounded by Korra and Asami.
- In the months that follow, Hiroshi Sato and Asami and encouraged to work for Kuvira. Asami is aghast and the two plan an escape. Hiroshi dies in the escape attempt. Asami looks around the cells for Mako, but she can’t find him- at this point, they hadn’t seen eachother since Korra died and he was moved. She leaves Republic City by boat, vowing to take back the city. (note. Hiroshi’s fate was never fully decided, but I didn’t write him into my first draft so i assume I meant for him to be dead).
- Wu, meanwhile, managed to escape the encroaching forces from Kuvira as many of the refugees were evacuated to the Fire Nation just before full control was given. He then lives there in political exile.
- The Fire Nation declares war on Kuvira’s regime after they get confirmation that the Avatar is dead, along with the Water Tribes. Kuvira makes good progress conquering some of the islands, but the Fire Nation manages to make Hummingbird suits which destroys the mecha, and out of desperation starting making their own spirit nukes. This forces the war to a stalemate to aavoid further huge losses. However, they do not sign a peace treaty, only a cessation of fighting. Kuvira releases some political prisoners like Iroh and the Air Nation as a sign of goodwill but Izumi and the Fire Nation won’t sign a treaty without the return of sovereignty to the United Republic. Kuvira refuses.
- Kuvira renames Republic City to Empire City, because originality, and makes it the capital. She rules the nation under an iron fist. All benders are made to register, with fire and waterbenders being treated the worst.
- MEANWHILE Kuvira released Opal (airbender) but not the rest of the Beifongs. Opal is PISSED. She teams up with Asami and set up the United Republic Liberation Front, with volunteers from refugees from all over the world.
- Whilst this is happening, Zaheer and the Red Lotus’s ideology sees a resurgence of popularity and Zaheer is broken out of his prison to lead the Red Lotus. So we now have to rebel factions, and the URLF does not trust the Red Lotus because of the whole trying to murder Korra thing, and the Red Lotus doesn’t like that they plan to put Wu on the throne in the Earth Kingdom.
- The Air Nation relocates to the Fire Nation, but some like Meelo join the URLF, and some rejoin the Red Lotus. The Air Nation implicitly opposses the Earth Empire so any airbender is viewed as a terrorist.
- The Fire Nation implicitly support the URLF, the Earth Empire knows it, but the two nations are still at a stalemate due to the spirit nukes.
- Opal and Asami begin a relationship out of shared grief (they have lost their family, friends, and romantic interest (Asami didn’t even get to date Korra). They also vow to try and rescue Mako, as they don’t know what happened to him, but they suspect he’s imprisoned with other lightning benders.
- A young child named Xan is born in the Earth Kingdom. His single mother dies young, so he is raised in an orphanage. He is a talented earthbender, but one day when it’s cold, he warms his hands up with firebending. He is whisked away to Kuvira’s mansion in Empire City. He sees her as a mother figure and is very close with her. Xan, the Avatar, is brought up to be a loyal member of the regime, and doesn’t doubt it otherwise.
STORY PROPER
- Xan is super happy with Unification Day! They celebrate the day Kuvira unified the Empire by conquering Empire City. They even have a play called the Unification Play. Bolin and Varrick are portrayed as evil and duplitious, propoganda runs rife. He is nearly seventeen.
- Xan is very loyal to the Earth Empire but chafes under the rule. He has mastered Earth and Fire, but struggles with airbending (as they have no teachers) and waterbending isn’t coming naturally either. He runs away from his bodyguard Iseul to have some fun on Unification Day. Iseul is a tall, metalbending soldier woman and around twenty-four. She is very by the book and has a strong sense of justice, and does not go out of her way to terrorise the fire and waterbenders like other members of the metalbending ruling class. However, Iseul is incredibly loyal to Xan, and loves him as a brother.
- Xan is reprimanded by Iseul and Kuvira for running off since he is a massive target for the evil rebels. Kuvira gives a speech to the crowd, but is targeted by an airbending assassin who is shot down by metalbending gaurds. She has insignia from the Red Lotus on her person so she is considered a terrorist. Zaheer is moved up to the top of the most wanted list above Asami and Opal.
- After this is Xan sees a vision of Korra. She has been trying to contact him, but Kuvira tells him to suppress these visions and that spirits are trying to influence him. He has no other education so he believes her. So he continues to ignore KOrra trying to get through to him.
- Xan is also generally an anxious mess and worries about the pressure.
- Xan watches soap operas with Kobi, his loyal servant of a similar age. Xan loves gossip and relationship drama. It’s his major flaw other than being an Earth Empire loyalist. He lives at the Air Temple with lots of guards which Kuvira turned into acomodation for him. Xan’s identity to the public is still kept secret, it’s just seen as more training barracks.
- Xan accompanies Kuvira to watch people being sentenced for being horrible people and also being anti regime. A waterbender is sentenced to a re-education camp, and her look to him strikes a nerve and disturbs him. Xan also visits a spirit weapons facility where they are attacked by a corrupted spirit (like in book 2) as all the spirit vine weaponry is causing the spiritual world to be out of whack and the spirits are angry (not helped by Xan ignoring his spiritual side).
- However Kobi briefly mentions that maybe Kuvira isn’t right all the time which causes Xan to snap at him. Xan is loyal.
- A few days later Kobi sneaks Xan out for some underage drinking but the drinks are actually drugged. Kobi is working for the URLF! Kobi is a trained liar so he evaded the truth seers under Kuvira’s employ. The URLF manage to get to the Air Temple, kidnap Xan in a submarine and take him away. This is the worst part of what I wrote because of how easy it was, and would be revised.
- Anyway Opal is on the submarine and takes Xan to the URLF base which is on a Southern Air Temple island (not the air temple itself, if that makes sense). They have an advanced cave system within the mountain to hideout.
- Opal on the trip is like ‘what up Xan’ and Xan is pissed and enters the Avatar State. They calm him down as he has nowhere to go as he is in a submarine. Xan is like ‘Bolin is shit fuck you’ and Opal hates this little shit. Xan can’t stand Kobi, who tries to say this is for the best and that Kuvira is wrong. Kobi is half a waterbender and hasn’t seen his mother in years as she didn’t register herself and was taken away to a camp, so Kobi joined the URLF. Xan has some sympathies, but can’t trust Kobi as Kobi has demonstrated that he is an excellent liar.
- They get to the hideout where we meet Asami. Asami and Opal are the leaders of the URLF. They imprison Xan for a bit where Korra again appears like ‘what up’ and he’s like go away. Asami lets Xan out of his prison to show him ‘Nuktuk’ because Asami is trying to explain to Xan bias and propoganda. She also offers that they’ll teach him airbending and his freedom around the complex in exchange for open-mindedness to their organisation. It’s better than being in a cell so Xan agrees. Asami also tells Xan that Kuvira killed Korra, and that she tortured Asami and Mako. Xan is disturbed, and also has no information on where Mako currently is. Opal is pretty pissed at Asami for basically doing this behind her back. (They have a slightly strained romance). Xan loves this drama. He is roomed with Kobi as Asami is like ‘you can room with your friend’ forgetting that Xan doesn’t like Kobi. Should be clear that Xan is pretty much trapped on this island as he has no control over the Avatar State and can’t bend water.
MEANWHILE
- Iseul really fucked up and Kuvira admonishes her for being a bad bodyguard. Iseul deeply cares for Xan and asks Kuvira to be allowed to go find Xan and Kuvira agrees (note: i do not like this plot point. I think it makes more sense for Iseul to go anyway despite Kuvira’s refusal).
- Iseul travels to a small town where she knows where rebels have had activity the Earth Empire is trying to stamp out. She decides to integrate with them, get close to the leadership, find Xan. She saves two members from the metalbending police starts to get friendly with the rebels. However they aren’t the URLF, they’re actually aligned with the Red Lotus, but on the ground, in towns, they often function fairly similar. Iseul decides to accompany a small group who are travelling down to another town with URLF contacts. She also meets Chatit, a prominent leader of the URLF. They flirt with eachother a little bit. Iseul wonders what she’s doing. THIS IS WHERE I STOPPED WRITING, THE REST IS PURE NOTES.
- Iseul and the Red Lotus gang get sidetracked by a member along the journey saying they think they found a bunch of lightning benders in a prison. The Red Lotus decides to break them out, Iseul reluctantly agrees to this to prove she is loyal to the cause so she can integrated with the URLF when the time comes. Of course, Mako’s in the prison! With a child named Akane. Iseul rescues Mako personally as he has an injured leg and they start to bond. Iseul also gets along with Akane.
- Akane is the daughter of Akane, another lightning bender Mako fell in love with in prison. She reveals she’s not Mako’s biological daughter, but the product of rape from one of the guards. Iseul is horrified, and does make her doubt the integrity of the regime she loves.
- Chatit decides, ‘hey, let’s go to Zaheer instead! We can get him on side when we go see the URLF and Mako is now a bargaining chip’. Mako is very unamused by this whole situation. He just wants to see Asami and Opal. He also likes Iseul not only for saving him but it’s clear that she doesn’t really believe in Zaheer and he likes that she thinks for herself.
- Chatit brings Mako to Zaheer’s secret camp in the woods and he’s like ‘what up Zaheer I brought you the guy who killed Ming-Hua!’ Zaheer does not give a shit as he is beyond grudges and admonishes a Chatit for not getting their philosophy. However doesn’t mind using Mako as a bargaining chip.
- mako is like to Iseul ‘Chatit is as bad with Zaheer as the metalbendera are with Kuvira’ and Iseul is like wait... that’s ME. She doesn’t say this aloud though but she now thinks Chatit is a complete weirdo because he simps for Zaheer so hard. Iseul’s faith in the regime is still shaken but Iseul is still dedicated to finding Xan and making sure he’s safe.
MEANWHILE (we’d cut back and forth between the two POV’s, so this is all mixed in with eachother).
— Xan struggles to learn airbending as he doesn’t know what true freedom is.
- Wu visits and is like ‘hey let’s party! You guys are so miserable!’ Wu also has a hunky Fire Nation boyfriend now. However Xan gleans from Wu that he intends to regain the throne, and also be the last King. The bloodline dies with him.
- Xan and Kobi have a little dance at this party. Opal and Asami make up. Xan is enthralled.
- Xan starts to make some progress with airbending so Opal and Asami decide to bring him on a boat to the Southern Water Tribe to visit the spirit portal in the hope he’ll be able to reconnect with Korra properly there by force instead of him burying it.
— they get to the Southern Water Tribe by Air Bison. The Souther Warter Tribe is attacked by Kuvira’s forces. Corrupted spirits also attack and wreck havoc amongst the general populace and the forces.
— in the chaos Korra reappears before Xan and he connects with her. She brings him to the moment of her death, and he feels her pain and is horrified, and it confirms the torture side of the story. Xan snaps back, enters the Avatar state and leaves with Asami and Opal.
— this is where the story gets a little shaky, but Xan still tries to believe he might be able to get through to Kuvira.
MEANWHILE
Word spreads that the Avatar has returned! Iseul sends some sort of message to the Earth empire forces to ask if they have Xan back. This is intercepted by the Red Lotus. Mako is horrified as the whole group realised she is a traitor. They move to execute her but Mako does step in since Iseul saved him from the prison, but declares to her to never interact with him and his daughter again. Which is sad as Iseul was getting a big sister bond with Akane. Akane does apologise to Mako but he’s having none of it. He just feels manipulated and he is so, so tired.
— not been clear but Mako’s mental state isn’t great. He’s been in prison for around seventeen years, witnessed the execution of his brother, and murder of Korra. He’s a bit fucked. His leg is also in poor condition and can’t fight well, he’s basically just been used to power lightning for years. Akane is the only thing that keeps him going. He wants to make sure she’s safe with Asami and Opal. Plus he’s also being used as a bargaining chip.
— the Red Lotus finally get to the URLF contacts. They manage to speak to Asami and Opal who are like ‘whooo Mako!’ and agree to a meeting with Zaheer. Xan decides to come too.
— Iseul and Mako are transferred to the URLF. Iseul finally decides to give up some crucial information— the Earth Empire intends to use its spirit weapons again soon, as they anticipate that the Fire Nation will use the comet in years to come to destroy the Earth Empire. They intend to use such an intense, short blast that the Fire Nation can’t respond.
— the URLF and Red Lotus decided they must band together, but they have to get the Fire Nation on side to attack the Earth Empire unexpectedly.
— Xan decides he must speak to Kuvira. Get her to see reason. Everyone tells him he’s delusional so he steals an Air Bison to get himself there before the attack.
— Before they fight, Mako, Opal and Asami have a tearful reunion. Mako can’t fight as he isn’t well, but he does bid them farewell.
— once there, Kuvira will not see reason. They fight and fight and fight, while the Fire Nation ships arrive with a shit tonne of weapons s, and the Earth empire prepares to use its weapons. Xan realised that it’s going to be an all out death battle, mutually assured destruction, so he kills Kuvira in a very long fight where he goes into the Avatar state (at this point he is pretty good at airbending but cannot waterbenders still).
— war is averted. Xan is traumatised and pissed. Korra reminds him that he isn’t some weapon— he’s been told what to do all his life, even by the URLF. So against proper protocol as suggested by Asami, he grabs all the spirit weapons in a big hurricane from both sides, and blows them up, forming a massive explosion (it could form a spirit portal like in book 4, but I don’t want to take Korra’s moment).
— the URLF establish control over Republic City. Asami is appointed temporary president. Wu is named King of the Earth Kingdom. Immediate release from the camps occur and the metalbending police are disbanded. Opal is re-United with her family.
— Zaheer says nothing and does nothing more after removing Kuvira, Though he does nod at Xan after the end— is it respect or a warning? Does Zaheer intend to try and kill the Avatar a second time?
— Asami and Mako enter a relationship, with Opal and Asami continuing theirs. It’s a poly life. Mako doesn’t really forgive Iseul but does tell her he might one day, and Iseul vows to make sure there is true justice for everyone.
— Xan is traumatised and hurt and realised he still has much more to learn. He decides to sneak away to the Northern Water Tribe. Kobi tells him it’s okay if he needs to spend some time alone, but he can have company if he needs it. Xan accepts and Xan and Kobi board a ship to the Northern Water Trube.
The endddd.
* I do realise Kobi has little impact on the plot after he spies for the URLF. He would mostly appear as Xan’s friend in the story and Xan would eventually trust him again. Hinted relationship between the two as he was the only person that Xan was honest with that wasn’t Iseul, and only she did it sometimes.
* I realised a while ago there there was an issue with Mako’s subplot not brought up here, that if Kuvira imprisoned him, wouldn’t she try and use him as bait with Opal and Asami? Or even execute him to send a message. Something. So I did come up with a backstory that Mako escaped prison but was recaptured, and went under a false name. It was only noticed that he was Mako because Iseul studied all the history books and recognised him as valuable during his rescue. None of this was developed beyond my own notes but it solves some logic issues, though is a bit contrived still to make this subplot work.

SnK Chapter 130 Results
The chapter poll closed with 1775 responses. This month’s poll results were brought to you by u/staraves, Crunchwrap, Luna, Momtaku and Giovata! Thank you to everyone for your support!
RATE THE CHAPTER
Maybe it was finally getting Eren’s POV, or maybe it was finally seeing the rumbling in nine glorious double page spreads. Either way “Dawn for Humanity” was very well received with close to 70% giving it the highest possible rating, marking this the most acclaimed chapter since chapter 123.
Beautifully drawn and written. I like the teasing of Eren's PoV
Good to see some Eren and Historia (finally!!) but the lack of answers is really hurting my heart, cmon yama!!
Epic chapter, amazing artwork. And astonishingly, with 5-6-7 chapters left i still don't know where this is going.
Definitely in my top ten best chapters. The ending was gloriously horrifying to read. Also, we finally got some Historia content, which is a big plus.
Cool as hell chapter.
I feel like this chapter wasn’t that great. It kind of gave way to more speculation without giving many concrete answers. The things that it DID answer felt like stating the obvious.
Tease me more, daddy Isayama
This chapter most likely is the best i've ever seen. So many answers and sooo many questions left behind. This chapter directs us to think about the previous chapters and obviously ISAYAMA'S THOUGHTS. That thing makes me happy. I'm very grateful.
Death is on its way, ladies and gents. Also the end is almost here. What the fuck is going on? I just want some answers about E V E R Y T H I N G (especially about Eren's psyche).
Is there a singular word for the feeling of a mosquito bite?
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT?
“The revelation of Eren’s freaky final boss form” was our favorite moment (22.7%) followed by “Eren’s POV finally! Sort of?” (15.8%) and “The rumbling! At last!” (13.4%). “Historia and Eren’s tense discussion on the farm” came in fourth (11.6%).
Fuck yes! Erens back!
Our Queen has finally returned!
The whole chapter was building up to the reveal of Eren's titan form, and I enjoyed it.
Finally back at our one and only true hero Eren.
SWIMMER TITANS ARE NOW THE GOLD MEDALIST FOR THE SWIMMING CATEGORY IN OLYMPICS 2020 special edition
FINNALY HISU POV, even if it’s just a flashback. Honestly I’m just happy to see her again, becuase she’s my favorite character, and even if the flashback gives more questions than answers.
loved zeke-eren bro talk
everyone who thought that Floch was lying in charter 125 are 🤡🤡🤡
reiner tiddies
WHO WAS THIS CHAPTER'S MVP?
“The colossal synchronized swim team” made an impressive showing (28.5%) but their majestic moves across the ocean were not enough to topple Eren (53.6%) for chapter MVP. Historia (8.1%), Zeke (5%), and Annie (3.5%) also received some love.
EREN IS THE GOAT
Eren is the worst boy in the world.
EREN JAEGER GENOCIDAL MANIAC
I really missed Historia, so it was nice to see her.
can the rumbling start a synchronized aquatic dance?
WHAT DOES THE CHAPTER TITLE "DAWN FOR HUMANITY" REFER TO?
I thought of it as some sort of "End of the world" titling.
Dunno; but it doesn't really work if the rest of the world gets rumbled, does it?
I want to see the japanese title to decide
Eren wants to kill “animals” to give a new life to “humanity”
A dawn, or a beginning of a new day, has arrived. Whether this new day is a good or a bad one for humanity, we do not yet know. Everything is still possible, but once this day is over, the world as we know it is no longer here, for better or worse.
A new age for humanity is incoming. The story will end as a tragedy with Eren achieving his goal.
Dawn means the start of the day. So I think the start of the rumbling will be the start of humanity for this world. I think we started to see this with the world fleet being there to try stop eren. I believe every country is helping people flee regardless of race. Maybe I'm just too idealistic.
Ce chapitre fait reference au fait qu’eren est pret a tout pour sauver ses amis
Eren will achieve his goal (end the cycle of hatred)
Hope for humanity outside the walls. Dawn for me is something like hope, even if today was a bad day, tomorrow, after dawn, things might get better. Maybe the Warriors-Paradis alliance will somehow reach Eren and stop the Rumbling?
dunno but got the vibes of ‘it’s darkest before the dawn’ might be a tip for a change coming
Eren has now officially started eradicating the world and also it's dark ideas against people on paradise and conquering freedom for his people and that is why this moment onwards is "the dawn of humanity "
Dawn for Eldians to be exact. Dusk for Marleyans.
Finally defeating Eren, ending the curse of Ymir and freeing everyone from the shadow of Titan powers.
Dawn of Terror? Dawn of "What The FUCK Is That??" Dawning that the remaining places of humanity are to be trampled?
It could refer to a ""dawn"" for the alliance, who intend for neither side of the conflict to be eradicated, as they believe everyone is part of ""humanity"". Despite their deliberation at the beginning of the chapter, the fact that they're finally setting sail to stop Eren is testament that they've not lost their hope in the pursuit of this ideal, hence they can be interpreted to be the ""dawn"".
Eldians in Paradis Island being free from the wrath of outsiders and being avenged
I think it refers to a new beginning a new start for the eldians living on the island or it can be used as an ironic way that the humanity outside the walls is going to end so it's complete destruction hence the beginning of the new cycle
The Rumbling & Historia's child, humanity's destruction and its rebirth
Continuation of "End's Eve" as this is the dawn of the day where humanity fights for its continued existence
"Dawn" refers to Humanity's realisation of many things. Eg: how Eldia is not a weak nation, how the Rumbling wasn't a lie, how people are people and they are all the same - wanting to live and shedding the same blood no matter what nationality they have. "Humanity" refers to those still alive and realizing these things.
Dawn of the final day - 24 hours remain
WHAT ARE THE FUTURE IMPLICATIONS OF ANNIE DECIDING SHE'S TIRED OF FIGHTING AND NO LONGER WANTS TO STOP EREN?
Despite learning that her hometown is doomed, just over half of respondents feel confident Annie will stay the course and continue to work with the alliance. Among the rest of responses, 27.4% think this will trigger Annie’s exodus, selecting “Annie will leave the alliance and try to be with her father,” 16.9% believe this will cause Annie to do something stupid resulting in her death, and lastly 4% of the fandom believe this bad news will trigger Annie’s homicidal instincts causing her to switch sides and join Eren.
Annie saying she didn't want to have to be prepared to fight mikasa, Connie, armin, jean, Reiner and eren again made me feel sad for her ;-;
I just wanna say that it wouldn't make any sense for Isayana to bring Annie back and then write her out so it's obvious she will continue in the alliance lol (but I don't really agree with any of the options offered, I think she will decide by herself to stay)
Poor Annie's breakdown made me feel terrible for her. I still think she wants to leave but I think there are chances of the Warriors and/or Armin convincing her to stay and fight. As one of the nine shifters, she kinda has the responsibility to fight, even if she doesn't want to, and I get completely why she doesn't want to, poor thing. I have a sneaky suspicion that she might choose Porco's way out and we might yet see a new holder of the Female Titan power. :(
WHAT WILL BE THE FATES OF THE ELDIANS IN LIBERIO, SPECIFICALLY THE WARRIORS' FAMILIES?
When asked about the residents of Liberio and the fate of the Warriors’ families, a combined 58% believe that they are alive for the moment selecting that they were evacuated (39.3%) or else managed to escape (18.4%). Close to 30% aren’t so optimistic, believing Liberio is flattened and they are dead. We also had plenty of write in responses:
They are going to die, but I can see Annie meeting her father and die together in each others arm by the rumbling. It's sad I know, but it would be a fitting end for both of them :(
They are probably arrive. Either they overcame the Marleyan authorities that tried to surpress, or The Rumbling avoided Liberio entirely. I just doubt they would kill off Mr. Leonhardt offscreen.
They may have started to fight the Marleyans and then ended up flattened by the titans since they didn't escape earlier.
They took a ship to the south and we will meet them including Reiner's family and Mr. Leonhart.
Am I supposed to feel sorry for these people? I don't. The Warriors don't deserve happy endings for everything they have done.
Bands of survivors have made it out but Annie will meet her dad when he is dead or dying
some died while revolting, some are alive, annie's dad is wounded
They're currently fineish because Eren didn't go where Hange was expecting, hence why all their estimations have been off
I mean, they must be alive somehow. It seemed that there were only soldiers in Liberio and the others evacuated so I'm hopeful that at least Annie's father survived
I want to have hope ;-;
I just want Annie to see her father again, and for Reiner to get what he wants.
What if the city Eren attacked isn't Liberio? I feel like it's too important to be flattened just like that (thematical resonance + too many side-characters like Eren's own grandfather are there) and we're being misled about the place Eren is attacking.
HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT HISTORIA'S STANCE ON THE RUMBLING?
Many of us had expectations about Historia going into this chapter. Her initially disagreeing outright with the rumbling but seemingly giving in was a surprise to 8.4% who thought she would have been all for it all along, and 19.9% who never expected her to agree with it at all. 6.4% of you expected her to do the opposite of what is implied, with agreeing at first but changing her mind in the conversation, while 23.3% reported expecting the exact turn of events. However, a huge 41.5% of you aren’t taking everything at face value and do not believe Historia does or has ever supported the rumbling.
DO YOU BELIEVE EREN IS THE FATHER?
After almost 2 years of the fandom fighting over the identity of Historia’s baby daddy, this chapter has finally definitively proven that… we still know nothing. Nonetheless, the narrowly winning belief (37%) is that Eren is the father, closely followed by those who believe he is not the father (34.4%). Some are unsure what to make of the situation (18.2%), and some of you don’t care enough to speculate (10.4%).
there is a TON of hints, him being the father makes prefect sense.
i will bet on my freedom that eren is the father
Historia x Eren ftw!
Eren being the father would be the most meaningful for both the story, as well as for Eren and Historia and their chemistry together if you ask me, though I can accept otherwise.
Whoever disagrees eren is the father doesn't read the manga seriously
I have not any positive thoughts about Eren-Historia's flashback. Just pain, I feel pain for her. I don't get the point to destroy her character like that.
I really hope Eren isn’t the father — it just doesn’t seem right.
I don't believe Eren is the father since it will contradict what he said to Zeke: "I'm only left with 4 years"
Sorry shippers, I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer about who's the father. But I kinda prefer it that way, because then we'll each get to decide what we thinks is correct.
IF YOU DONT STOP THIS I WANNA MAKE BABIES WITH YOU
Still don't care about who's the father
Who is the father?
HOW HAVE YOUR FEELINGS ON THIS CHANGED DUE TO THIS CHAPTER?
35% went into the chapter thinking Eren was not the father and 30% believing he was, with this chapter doing nothing to change their minds. For those who were affected, this chapter influenced 14.2% to join the team #DaddyEren and 5.6% to burn their membership card. The remaining 15% don’t care enough to speculate.
If Eren is the father, I think it's possible Historia wanted his baby to keep a part of him with her after the rumbling is over, or perhaps it was an attempt to make him want to come back when he's done or even not commit genocide.
why does everyone keep saying Eren is the Father confirmed? There is literally no evidence to support that, and it actually contradicts Erens statement when Zeke discusses Mikasas feelings towards him.
I just want Eren to be the father
Historia's pregnancy smacks of her own plan but I'm not sure Eren is on board with it.
I want confirmation on the father cause if it's not eren ima be pissed off
don't care who the father is, whole world is ending.
I can't stand the mystery surrounding Historia's pregnancy anymore, this is worse than serum bowl.
WHO THE FUCK IS THE FATHER
SO THEN WHAT'S THE REAL DEAL WITH HISTORIA'S PREGNANCY?
“What’s the deal with Historia’s pregnancy?” Jerry Seinfeld asks. But we cannot answer – we can only sustain ourselves on memes and ship wars. Despite Eren and Historia’s somewhat uneasy conversation, a solid third of you are still pretty sure that Eren is the baby’s father. A little over a fifth of you think she did the dirty with Farmer-kun instead. And another fifth is convinced something else is going on (watermelon baby?), but aren’t sure what. Some of you scream to the sky, sick of all the drama. And a few of you wouldn’t rule out a baby created through PATHS. It might be Ymir’s doing! No, not that Ymir. THAT Ymir.
Historia is playing 5d chess I just know it. I just don't know how yet
Why'd Historia act like that if Eren wasn't the father?
ymir is the father
Eren has to be the father for the good dev of eren & historia characters
I really hope the pregnancy thing is just a red herring, but it wouldn't be the first-time Isayama appealed to fan-service if not.
If I see more speculation on whether Eren is the father I'm gonna puke. I mean how about focus on the real story? Like how the world is about to be destroyed??
We need more Historia. We literally need her POV for the story to make sense right now. I can't believe that with ""5% of the plot"" left Isayama is *still* pulling this all this time? There *has* to be more.
I always knew Mikasa was the father
WHY DO YOU THINK HISTORIA IS PROPOSING A PREGNANCY?
Despite a majority of respondents believing the pregnancy is authentic, there is no consensus as to why Historia would propose it. The most popular answer when asked was “I don’t know” (32.2%). The remainder of the fandom is split between Historia proposing the pregnancy in support of Eren (23.1%), as part of an alternative plan (21%) or as an act of defiance against Eren (17.6%). Only a small percentage (6.1%) believe she actually wants a child.
What the hell is the pregnancy for? It doesnt make any sense for Historia to suggest that all of a sudden
How did getting eren and historia's conversation make things more confusing😔Like what went through historia's mind when she thought of having a baby i-
What if the "what if I have a child" scene with Historia actually happened EARLIER than the rest of the conversation? It would explain why they switched places, and if Eren really is the father, would explain why he feels he has such a say in Historia's child's future ("even if you agree, I don't" ) , and why when he spoke about the MPs he said "WE have two options: fight or run". It would also give him a motivation to oppose his friends, since they are trying to stop him.
I don't see his conversation with Historia in romantic light. She was scared of him and Eren was trying to manipulate her with her own words about being ""the worst girl on the world"". We still miss some important parts of their conversation, but if she agreed to help him because he reminded her how ""the worst girl"" she was, then I would be very disappointed. I saw her as strong woman and I hope she will not turn to be a mild sheep who isn't brave enough to follow Ymir's wish and ""live her life with pride"" (or ""live sticking her chest out"").
I have no idea for which purpose Historia want to become pregnant, but I'm glad that I was right that she decide it for herself and doesn't get forced at all!
Historia has a trick up her sleeve and I can't wait to see what it is.
WE LEARNED WHAT ZEKE REALLY TOLD EREN ABOUT THE ACKERBOND. ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH EVERYTHING WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THE ACKERMAN CLAN?
75% of the fandom wants more resolution to the Ackermysteries with 38.4% wanting MOAR and 32.3% wanting at least a little more. Only 22.3% are satisfied with the ackercrumbs we’ve been tossed and 7% have no opinion.
love guru zook
ackerman bond means LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!! sweet for all ackerman related shippers ohhhh
I'm satisfied to see yet another example of people trying to pin eren's BS onto zeke (with the ackerman theories) be proven completely wrong
Mikasa's charachter wouldve been a lot more interesting if her ackerman genes had an effect on her decision making and her trying to overcome them would be a lot more intriguing to see. Instead it turned out to be some lovey dovey pancake bullshit. I mean what would Zeke even know about Mikasa??
WHAT IS UP WITH HISTORIAS PREGNANCY AND ACKERMANS BLOOD AHHHHH
I think the fact that the Ackermans can access the Paths without being shifters is going to be super relevant. My pet theory is that Mikasa will be able to cross into the Paths dimension to kill Eren and truly free Ymir Fritz, but let's see how that goes.
HOW ACCURATE WAS ZEKE'S ASSESSMENT OF MIKASA'S FEELINGS TOWARD EREN?
One of the few areas of agreement in this chapter was with Zeke’s assessment of Mikasa’s feelings towards Eren. Close to 80% think that despite having never met Mikasa in person, Zeke correctly understands that Mikasa’s concern for Eren has little to do with genetics and everything to do with reasons of the heart. However, the majority of people who took the option of writing in their answer cited both as a factor in Mikasa’s bond.
Eren, when your sadistic and bloodthirsty big bro can see how much Mikasa loves you, you probably should take it seriously lol
Zeke. Is. Big. Bro
He's a lying liar who lies.
usually when panels sway to the right, they are true, so I believe this is the case.
Did anybody honestly not already know this? We learned nothing new from this as far as I'm concerned.
Mikasa really cares for Eren but the Ackerman genes amplify her love for him.
Everybody's emotional attachments have some basis in biology. It doesn't make them any less real or meaningful
we learn Zeke ships eremika 🤔unexpected but naice
The ackerman blood does boost her physical abilities but i believe it doesn't affect her mentally (she probably has ptsd and seperation anxiety)
What is between Eren and Mikasa? There is something we still Dont know.I wish for more Mikasa....
I think the bond itself is clearly related to her trauma but the intensity of it probably has more to do with her Ackerman genes
Both ? Even tho Ackerman genes could have a big part in it
I think Mikasa loves Eren but it's not JUST romantic or JUST familial.
Her devotion is strong on its own- but her Ackerman abilities definitely have played a role in her saving his ass all these years.
Very accurate, he is Love Master Zook.
Only a fool believe that shit regarding Ackerman bonds and so on. [...] The hate speech I believe is some kind of Eren pathetic attempt to release her of her feelings towards himself, just in case the worst scenario is coming up in not too far future.
The Ackerman instincts amplified her love towards Eren.
Zeke was right [...] As much as Mikasa being ready to snap titans necks in two for Eren is due to her love for him, Eren being willing to go through with a world genocide to prevent Historia's sacrifice definitely results from his love for her.
HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT THE PLACEMENT OF FLASHBACKS DURING THIS CHAPTER?
The majority of the fandom really enjoyed the inception-like flashbacks, but 1/5th just found it confusing as all hell. A sixth of the fandom is just fed up with Isayama blue-balling us. We’ve been in this relationship 10+ years, Yams, it’s time for you to give it up!
Loved the interwoven flashbacks, and made sense considering a lot of the "unknown" conversations(Eren with Yelena, Floch, Historia....) all tie into each other. Made sense to them like this, and plus there is still some mystery from his talk with Historia.
E-H convo should've been shown months ago; now is not the time for flashbacks.
Just Yams trolling the shippers
The confusing flashbacks also reflect Eren's state of mind. The placement was well done.
I don't mind it, but i feel Isayama was, to a certain degree, struggling to work all of this information organically into the story, so he was forced to choose this flashback method to get it out there.
The juxtaposition is very purposeful, while I don’t necessarily like what it implies, it is indeed impactful.
The way the flashbacks were placed would look amazing in the anime, but in manga format it looks a lot more confusing!
People might say this is Isayama being mysterious and showing us everything but revealing nothing as he always does, and yeah and if this was 10 chapters ago I might see that as a positive, but this late into the series it feels like it was just a waste of a chapter.
They were good because they connected with each-other; though I had to reread the chapter several times to distinguish who was talking because it flipped so much.
These kinds of chapters are slightly annoying in the moment, but are more than worth it in the long run.
The Historia flashbacks are confusing af
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND EREN IMPLYING HE "WANTED THIS", REGARDING THE FUTURE OF THE RUMBLING?
Continuing Eren’s ongoing theme of the question of free will and determinism, this chapter presented us with the possibility that Eren wanted everything that has happened from the start. Depending on your interpretation, of course. The majority of respondents to this question (54.7%) believe that Eren has been convincing himself there was no other possible future due to seeing said future play out in front of his very eyes, and 17.1% somewhat similarly believe Eren did not want this in the conventional sense, and he is an unreliable narrator. A smaller 12% believe this is confirmation that Eren’s vengeful nature caused this, closely followed by 9.5% of you who just think he is a lunatic.
Despite him talking as if this future was fated to happen he still seems aware enough that his own decisions still led to this outcome. From his perspective all of this was meant to happen because he already saw his future memories, but he doesnt deny that the path he took was still by his own will.
Eren said from the start he would, "destroy them all." He hated being a slave. I think he *does want this. He wants whatever will guarantee freedom.
Both future can't be changed AND Eren is a fucking lunatic
Even if the future could be changed Eren preferred the full rumbling
He literally had no option from the very beginning , his actions is definitely justified .
it's probably all the attack titan's will, not his.
he's trying to fool himself into thinking he never changed
Eren has accepted that the future cannot be changed, and has realized that the unchangeable future is the future that he has always wanted
Eren is so close-minded & immature
I've given up trying to understand Eren's logic. It's just too bizarre. I will wait until the story is finished to form any opinion about him.
Eren was bored in his original universe and wanted humanity to have a threat so he made the aot universe via Ymir and became that threat himself.
Even if a significant part of Eren wants to eradicate his enemies out of rage/revenge, really deep down it’s been shown he wishes there was another solution but right now he doesn’t want to admit he’s surrendered to his destiny. So Isayama’s going to come back to this by having Eren admit to himself he isn’t really free/this isn't what he wants, which will be the culmination of his character arc (what will he do then?…).
Eren kinda forgot about the mothers
THIS BURST OF PANELS SHOWS A VARIETY OF SCENES FROM EREN'S POV, BUT SOME SCENES APPEAR TO BE FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE OR ENTIRELY NEW SCENES. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Nearly 45% of the people who voted, thought it was a deus ex machina move from Founding Titan by Proxy, which granted Eren a glimpse at all Eldians’ memories. Almost a third think that Eren was actually able to control their memories. 14% of all voters are just “wtf…? I dunno” at all the Pathsnanigans.
I don't know and I don't like it. Hope it isn't another pathsfuckery while all I want in life is KRUEGER'S POV.
Eren's path shit also implies the story has always been bending to that moment too. From the pigs, to even Dina from that Bert shard. If it's ever revealed he orchestrated Carla's death to stimulate Grisha and Eren's hatred, the whole demonisation of RBA gets turned on his head.
I don't like the idea that Eren controlled the Smiling Titan but it's starting to feel more and more likely...
The second one except it WILL come up again cause it’s fucking Isayama like tf do you expect lmao
The new POV scenes are definitely intentional but I hope the explanation isn't some magical PATHS stuff where he orchestrated characters (like Dina's) actions or is suddenly an all-seeing almighty being. Grisha was enough pls.
DUDE, THIS MEANS THAT BIRD HAS P A T H S!
dumb answer choice
FT/Ymir lets Eren see the memories of all Eldians. It will come up again. I don't get some of the angles/perspectives though.
It's possible some of these things haven't happened yet, or that Eren has access to the memories of more shifters somehow. For example, Berthold might be a memory Annie or Reiner have and Eren will receive if he eats one of them while they try to stop him.
I have absolutely no idea what the deal is with the Falco and Bertolt memories but I'm sure they're not inconsistency errors considering the care that went into showing that the Mikasa/Grisha/Levi etc. panels are clearly from Eren's POV. I expect answers really soon (and no, I do not think he controlled Dina’s titan to kill Carla, that would be pure character assassination). Hange's panel looks like it's from the future, as well as Mikasa's unfamous 'see you later'. The geese are also interesting but I have no mindblowing theories about them unfortunately..
Excited to see from where Hange without glasses memories from though.
Eren is the air, the trees, the birbs, everything
Marcel is more like to come back from the dead before I ever understand half the shit inside Eren’s head.
If Eren somehow got his mother killed that'll be the ultimate bruh moment
THIS CHAPTER SHOWED US ANOTHER MEMORY OF FEZ-KUN, FINDING HIMSELF IN TROUBLE AGAIN. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MEANING BEHIND HIS HIDDEN STORY?
The mystery of the Fez persists once again, with this being the tenth chapter since he was first shown. Though by a small margin, the consensus is that the purpose of his story is to reaffirm Eren’s determination to wipe out the world at 44.8%, with 33.4% of respondents believing he will be a tie to Eren’s compassion and remorse for what he is doing, and 17.1% believing it highlights Eren’s inherent hypocrisy for caring for him even though he will die by his actions later. Many write-in options expressed confusion at who this kid is.
Eren believes that suffering and oppression of minorities will never end just by small acts of kindness and simular "passive" acts, like what Levi did, it does not provide a long term solution or prevent Fez-kun'sfrom furder torments, which is why Eren feels like the extreme solution of the rumbling is his only option
Eren gave a mission to Fez-kun
Eren using another kid to get his way without caring about his life. What else is new.
He's the "even someone on the street" part of Kruger's advice to love someone to break the cycle of tragedy.
He’s showing that little boy he has to fight to survive, like he did with Mikasa when they were kids.
I think he found himself in trouble again (he looks to be bruised on the cheek in 120) and Eren will come to his rescue. However I think Eren will not just save him by beating up or killing the Marleyans, but inspiring the Fez kid to take action and "fight" just like he did with Mikasa. This arc has had a lot of focus on the almost inhumane level of violence Eren showed as a kid when killing those kidnappers, so I can see that being for the purpose of a direct parallel where Eren pressured the kid with the fez to stand up for himself.
I think Eren saved Fez-kun of those guys, but then he will kill him later, showing his own hypocrisy (those guys can't do bad to a child but I can).
I expect his shard(s) to contrast the other previously unknown panel from 120: Historia’s shard was revealed to be yet another instance of Eren manipulating a friend by putting his desires above her own, thus robbing her of her free-will. I hope that Fez-kun symbolizes the "beauty in a cruel world"
It show that Eren just have an other plan and not just kill everyone for no reason???? Lest not be that blind :) what esle u want to understund thats an option too? you want isayama to told u?
maybe eren intends for some people to escape when he announced the rumbling which allows people to prepare themselves, idk.
Eren will save their family and he told Fez to lead his family to a certain location that the rumbling won't reach?
What are all these crappy options? He represents Eren’s journey to changing his viewpoint about everyone being an enemy, as he told Reiner.
Just thought he was part of the collage of events, no further meaning.
Who’s Fez-kun
SWIMMING TITANS?
88% of you welcome your Swimming Titan overlords, but 12% aren’t so convinced - there’s a pretty even chance it’s because the image is just too absurd, too terrifying, or a pants-wetting combination of both.
SWIMMING TITANS
swimming titans
Seeing those colossal titans was crazy
The panel of the titan swimming underneath that ship haunts me in my dreams.
HELL YEAH FUCKING SWIMMING TITANS
WHEN THE MILITARY SIGHTS ERENSAURUS AT THE END, RATHER THAN CALLING IT THE FOUNDING TITAN OR EREN JAEGER, THEY RECOGNISE IT AS THE ATTACK TITAN. WHY?
Despite the threat of Eren Jaeger previously being referred to by name or as “the Founding Titan”, this chapter encapsulated the horror of the allied forces as they recognised it as the Attack Titan. The plurality (40.3%) is that this was just for the purpose of Isayama being able to drop a “Shingeki no Kyojin” in this climactic chapter, though a close second option (34%) is that there is historical information to distinguish the Attack Titan from the others. 15.2% of you believe the Attack Titan is the Titan Bogeyman for Marleyans, and 10.4% attribute the naming to the fact that it’s attacking them, duh.
I think the Maryleans/World Forces knew it was the Attack Titan bc of the Eldians in Marley (like Annie's dad) warning them ahead of time. I think once they realized The Rumbling was happening, they asked for more deets from the folks who heard Eren's message in the Path's Realm.
I wonder why the rest of the world was only using Mikasa ships instead of various ships lol
IT CAN'T BE STOPPED ANYMORE
NOW THAT WE FINALLY GOT TO SEE EREN'S SPINE-CHILLING (BADUM-TSS) FORM, WHAT DID YOU THINK?
This manga has turned into a horror show, and y’all seem to be loving it, according to over fifty percent. Thirty percent are aghast at the sight before them, and nearly a tenth of you don’t really know what to think of the Grim Reaper titan yet. Some of you wanted something more fully formed, but this creepy crawly is freaky enough, isn’t it? Let’s just be glad none of us live in Marley right now.
My jaw dropped when I saw Eren’s titan form. Horrific.
I love Erensaurus a lot. This chapter gave the same level of anxiety that Zeke's attack in Shiganshina gave me. Good
YEAH EREN IS SCARY AS FUCK I LOVE IT MORE FREEDOM MORE FREEDOM MORE FREEDOM
Eren's titan looks a little like the earth devil
Did Eren pick the design of his new Titan or did Ymir just give it to him?
Really interested in where it is going especially because Eren's Titan got lips which could be an indicator for it to have the ability to speak
Eren’s Founding Titan form looks like something out of Silent Hill
I'm not saying anything about Eren's titan. What even the actual fuck, Yams
Oh lawd he comin
WHY IS EREN'S CURRENT TITAN FORM A SKELETON WITH NO FLESH?
Eren is looking awfully spooky right now. That’s a good sign, isn’t it? I guess looking like a death metal album cover is better than looking like whatever Rod Reiss was supposed to be. 34.9% figure that as this is probably the largest titan ever, it’s just too big for flesh. It’s not like PATHS sand is infinite, after all. 34.6% think that the form is incomplete because of the missing titan powers; this is only a third of his potential scariness! 23% think there’s no real reason he looks like this. Not an in-story reason anyway. Finally, 7.6% think Eren is still not done forming this devilish beast.
Eren's upper skeleton body thing looks like wings of freedom...
The reason Eren's body was like this, if he was muscular, he would radiate a lot of heat, so the Allience's couldn't reach him. But now, no muscle, no heat. They can reach easily.
Eren's form is creepy as hell! I also think he might be dead/dying/the titan now.
Seriously, how the fuck does Eren's Titan move?
When a shifter generates a titan body, they need to have a special task or purpose in mind. Is Eren's titan meant to be a bridge between Paradis Island and the continent?
WHAT IS ISAYAMA TRYING TO SAY WITH THE PUPPET-LIKE MOTIF OF EREN'S TITAN?
Many have noticed the puppet-like strings connecting Eren’s torso and head to his stegosaurus spikes in the final panel (though not in the first shot we get of Eren -- we’ll just ignore that), but what does it mean? Him being a slave to himself (38%) just edged out him being a slave to fate (36.7%), with a slim minority (3.3%) believing Ymir could be the true puppeteer. Of course, there are the 21.9% of you who are remaining steadfast in the belief that Eren is NOT a slave, he is FREE.
He is a slave to the future memories and instead of trying to find a different way, he is convincing himself that this is what he wants from the start to compensate for how little freedom he has.
He's trying to justify to himself that he isn't a slave
Eren is a slave to that sweet sweet feeling of self-righteous rage.
Ymir might be acting through Eren.
I think eren has become a vessel for ymir and it's ymirs will that we're hearing.
WHERE IS EREN'S HUMAN BODY MOST LIKELY RESIDING?
The results for this are a mixed bag, with the three most popular answers extremely close in votes. It’s most agreed upon (29.1%) that Eren has no human form, and has merged with the Titan on some level, with a close second (28.8%) being him being separated from the Titan but not in the conventional sense, and using the Warhammer Titan power to operate it from the ocean. 27.9% of you believe he is in the standard position of the nape, and only 14.2% of you believe the head of the Attack Titan could be his true location.
So, does Eren now only have his head left or was he fully healed thanks to Ymir?
where is Eren (No,not his titan)? There is no nape on that thing, just bone
I NEED TO KNOW HOW EREN IS TRANSPORTING HIMSELF
THE CHAPTER ENDS WITH CHILD EREN'S DETERMINATION TO "DESTROY THEM" OVERLAPPING WITH ADULT EREN COMMANDING THE RUMBLING. WHICH STATEMENT IS THE MOST ACCURATE REGARDING THIS COMPARISON?
This curious panelling choice ends the chapter, giving us a peek at Eren’s inner monologue – but in true Isayama fashion it’s not clear exactly what it means. 45.6% believe it shows that Eren hasn’t fundamentally changed the way he views the world, his will and titan powers giving him the means to influence it. 26.4% think it’s a reminder of Eren’s tragic tendency to believe that peace cannot exist without the complete elimination of an opposing force. 16.8% think it demonstrates Eren’s willing or unwilling continuation of the cycle of hatred and revenge. Finally, 9.1% think there’s a hint here that Eren’s childhood self was cursed with thoughts from his future mind.
ALL OF THE ABOVE
All of the above, minus the P A T H S.
I hate eren do the same thing as what he had been through
It's Eren's tendency to lose himself to the desire for vengeance, which in the mange is always depicted as leading to a catastrophe in the end.
His childhood trauma comes back to him when he sees a loved one die / about to die and feels the powerlessness of having been unable to do anything because of being weak. Then pain and anger return for this reason
It's a parallel showing his determination to fight back against those who would deny he and his comrades their freedom.
It is once again Eren reassuring himself he's doing what's right, by telling himself that the cycle of hatred is what's causing this and that he needs to break it
The thoughts are child Eren, simply overlapping with the current situation. It may not be adult Eren’s thoughts.
THIS BITCH CRAZY.
I just want to say that the history is repeating its self . What we thought it was the past it's actually the future
He is using this memory of his mother being eaten to motivate himself, like a main drive. It's not the first time. Anger/Rage was always the main drive that he used to keep fighting/seeking for freedom
This is already similar to some of the options presented, but I like the idea that this is showing deep down he is driven by his childlike rage, and as much as he tries to convince himself it's for his friends, he really just wants to revel in violence because he's broken and he thinks wiping everyone out is the only way he will be at peace.
THIS CHAPTER ALSO PRESENTED US WITH TWO ALMOST DICHOTOMIC MOTIVATIONS FOR EREN, BETWEEN LOVE FOR HIS FRIENDS AND HATE FOR THE ENEMY, BUT WHICH DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE STRONGER DRIVING FORCE?
The two most powerful and conflicting emotions driving Eren right now have the fanbase somewhat split over what pushes him further. It seems that most are optimistic about Eren’s prime motivation being the wellbeing of his friends at 59.7%. Meanwhile 40.3% believe that Eren’s love for his friends has been eclipsed by the roiling hatred and thirst for vengeance within him. Even at this point in the story, it’s hard to be absolutely certain – safe to say Eren is a real menace when he feels this strongly about anything.
I feel like I finally fully understand Eren's mindset, even though there is probably still more to his POV. He just wants his friends to be happy and live long lives, so he had to push them away especially after Sasha's death.
This chapter Eren can't disentangle love from fear/hate/loss due to what happened to his mother, which is why his feelings about his friends now manifest so destructively.
Eren's memory chain went from remembering his friends smiling, to Sasha's death and Fez-kun being beat up, and eventually to his mother's death and his vow to kill all titans, showing that deep down he knows his motivation to protect his friends is bullshit and that his "enemies" are mostly innocents, but he keeps moving forward due to hatred and revenge.
Eren has never healed his trauma. It was "eating" him slowly and turned him into this he hated the most - a devilish monster.
I think the chapter settled very well that revenge surpass even his wish of protect his friends
The transition to Eren's pov and the fact we didn't learn anything new beside some basic confirmations, is really strange. And if Eren ends killing the friends he wanted to protect, he will be a complete disappointment. I really am afraid of SnK's ending.
"I want my friends to live long happy lives" he says after treating them like shit, breaking their spirit, and partially ruining their home island with millions of titans. I hope he doesn't act surprised when they show up to stop him (assuming they can catch up of course).
I don't believe the word "animals" align with Eren's current perspective, nor how he sees his "enemies". He holds the same ideals as he did as a child, but realises the nuance of his enemies and how people on both sides are ultimately the same. He just believes this radical action is the only necessary way to end an unstoppable inter-generational conflict in his lifetime so these problems aren't handed down to future generations anymore.
he's being driven both by hatred and love, but right now his rage is winning and he's using the safety of his friends and Eldia as an excuse to appease his conscience.
ON A SCALE FROM "SECRET PLAN" TO "KILL 'EM ALL", WHERE DO YOU STAND ON EREN'S TRUE INTENTIONS?
This chapter all but confirmed that Eren indeed plans to wipe out the entire outside world for most of the fandom. The majority are skewed towards the opinion of Eren definitely rumbling everything, with less and less respondents holding onto hope that Eren has an alternate plan.
Eren wants this rumbling and he's ready to sacrifice others to get what he wants, even his friends.
I gotta say, I thought Eren would've had a real plan that wasn't just massacring everyone else on the planet. I was already against the plan, but I suspected he'd walk the other side of the ocean and then announce to the world that the existence of titans was no more and destroy all the titans as proof, and all the shifters would just be normal people again.
His goal is to wipe the titans out of this world, and not to flatten it.
I support the rumbling, cause Marley deserved this by trying to eliminate Paradis, but at the same time there are so many good people there(including eldians themselves) that haven't done anything wrong. Military and leaders of marley should be eliminated, but not the poor people that had no choice.
This hateful world is needed to be purged and I support Eren for this. And when Rumbling is over that beast piece of sh** must die by Levi's hand.
I thought eren had a secret plan for the rumbling but after getting his pov this chapter looks like he really is going for it
Somehow, I can't shake off the feeling that we still haven't seen 100% of Eren's plan, there is still some twist waiting. I am not trying to justify Eren's current actions, it's more like ""if there is something that will throw this whole scenario upside down it better come up soon, because right now IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD"".
I want to believe thtat Eren has a secret plan in the rumbling but the chapter says that this is what he wanted, he had always been like this, he was always “free” sadly, he’s enslaved by his beliefs of freedom that he resorts to these drastic measures.
I think that this chapter confirms two things: one, the Rumbling is Eren's true plan [...] BUT two, there is "something beyond that hell", which is the "scenery" Eren says he saw in ch. 121. I think it's the endgame after the Rumbling is stopped (no way is it going to be completed), and it's what caused both Grisha and Historia to go along with his plan in the end even though they didn't agree with it and thought it was awful. Eren's "everything is still ahead" and the weird cut in Historia's flashback are too... strange and seem to point to this being a game changer and the final plot point of the series.
If the rumble will succeed, then I've spent 7 chapters seeing characters do nothing to accomplish nothing. I don't wanna feel my time wasted.
I unironically want Eren to kill everyone outside the walls. Nuff said.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE REPEATED BIRD IMAGERY?
Birds are a focal point of this chapter, with the combination of a four-panel tracking of a soaring seagull and a flash of a memory of some nearby geese. The majority of respondents (62.5%) believe the birds simply tie into the theme of, and likely Eren’s motivation of freedom. In a distant second (20.9%) is the answer that it relates to the idea of everyone being connected under the same sky, a fitting motif amidst this chapter’s exploration of the conflict as well as unity of different groups. 12.7% of you are hopping on board the “Eren is a bird now” train, and 4% of you just really don’t like birds.
The two birds from the Paths panels appear in episode 1 of the anime iirc, not sure about the manga though.
Eren is bird confirmed thank <°^°>
I like the Bird Theory that says he’s transferring his consciousness to a bird. yeah it sounds a bit odd but it’s interesting and I’m willing to accept anything at this point
The birds are secret surveillance cameras
I like birds
idk man this shit is confusing as hell.as for falco thing i think eren has become the bird. anything can happen at this point.
Eren is the Eagle we see in the chapter 91 that Falco says to fly away lmao
THIS CHAPTER HAD SOME AMAZING ART, SHOWCASED IN THE MANY DOUBLE SPREADS (EXACTLY 9... OH GOD WHAT DOES IT MEAN ISAYAMA??) WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE DOUBLE SPREAD?
Whether it was the break back in May, or Isayama’s dedication to highlighting this chapter’s importance, the art has definitely taken a step up and blown us all away. Though it is very split, the final double spread showcasing the commencing of the rumbling garnered the most votes (18.2%). At second (15.7%) was the imposing silhouettes of colossal titans rising from the ocean, and at a very close third (15.5%) was the very next spread, of these titans wiping out the battleships as casually as if they were wading through seaweed. If there’s one thing to make of this from what the winners have in common, we have all definitely been waiting to see the rumbling for a while.
Isayama's improvement as an artist it's inspirational.
the art is god tier
Those Rumbling pages are so gorgeous they make me wanna say "Kill them all, Eren ! Destroy the fucking world !"
Mappa has their work cut out for themselves
MAPPA's fucked lol I hope they're up to the task.
That Attack Titan spread has the single GREATEST bit of shading in this entire manga.
Solid Art, phenomenal design and usage of double spreads
I just wanted to add that this is visually one of the most beautiful chapters I've seen in a while. The colossals, holy shit. I can't wait to see this animated. All of those double-page spreads were pretty fantastic but I have to say there's nothing quite like the chill that runs down your spine when you see all those colossals emerging from the smoke and the mist, where you see for the first time how huge and terrible they are (and also when you realise the first line of defense is already down). I had legit goosebumps.
CHAPTER 130 MARKS THE END OF A VOLUME, WHICH HAS BEEN FILLED WITH ALLIANCE-FOCUSED CHAPTERS. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS NOW THAT WE'VE FINALLY RETURNED TO EREN?
After six consecutive chapters focusing on the alliance with no Eren, the majority of you (57.6%) are relieved to finally move beyond the alliance, though have enjoyed the recent chapters, with 20.4% being completely over the alliance. 7.4% say they were originally sceptical but the chapters did well to make the alliance likeable to them, and 14.6% are open to more chapters just focused on the alliance.
Please for the love of God more of this and less of the alliance, the alliance was so rushed and as it's continued it hasn't been developed much further beyond plot convenience. The less of that I have to read before I get to read amazing stuff like 130 the better
i wanted more on the alliance, not flashbacks smh
it was something enjoyable after a while. Especially 126 made me grimace all over the volume till 130 came up. Not saying I was waiting for Eren but it was so cheesy.
Eren chapters are written worse than Alliance ones
This chapter single handedly made up for the below average, cringe-inducing chapters 126-129 Alliance bullshit. I have faith Isayama will create a very satisfying ending for this series now.
This chapter was legit a great way to end the volume off, it truly feels like its really the beginning of the end
DESCRIBE THIS CHAPTER IN ONE WORD
The top 5 write-ins are below, followed by the average chapter score for each description. This months’ average chapter score was 4.59.
Amazing [4.89]
Epic [4.84]
Eren/Ereh [4.69]
Rumbling [4.46]
Confusing [3.88]
Honorable mention: Ragnarok
We’d also like to mention that there were a lot of write-ins related to genitals and coitus… seems like y’all were really hyped up by that first fanlation >.>
WHAT ARE YOU MOST HOPING TO SEE NEXT CHAPTER?
Despite this chapter theoretically giving us everything we had hoped for in a while, the responses show that we still want to have WAY MORE answers (34.6%), MORE Historia (16.9%) and MORE rumbling action (14.5%). We’d also like to know where on earth Zeke is and if Floch is going to be the little troublemaker that we know and have strong feelings about. Will the boat make it to Odiha? Will Levi do a thing? Stay tuned!
There's still some mystery that have yet to answer and I want answers
Where the fuck is Zeke
WHERE. IS. LEVI.
i want more eren, historia and zeke. They're interesting. I don't care about the alliance.
"Zekey-dekey-doo, where are you?" ...I'm so done with you guys.
need update on zeke and historia's situation.
I want it to end soon #TeamEren
I expect in the next chapter something more around the alliance and maybe (hopefully) Floch's comeback!
Enough of Hisu, she is just a side character.
Want more Rumbling
All I can say is, I'm beyond anxious to see how the series ends, and it's eating me up inside.
WHERE DO YOU PRIMARILY DISCUSS THE SERIES?
Most of our lovely respondents are rambunctious Redditors as usual, followed by a fair few from the flock on Twitter, distinguished Discorders, and discussors who want for nothing. Then there are some ravishing real-lifers, titillating Tumblrites, ...aaaand the rest (you’re all great). We’re still side-eyeing you Snapchatters though.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE CHAPTER?
Honestly I just wanna let it out, but not on google Poll for obvious reasons
Not about the chapter... but you guys always come up with funny answers that I feel compelled to chose even if it’s not really what I think. I love to answer this. Thank you!
Zeke the relationship expert, huh?
This chapter went through far too many dodgy translations for its own good, and even the official typeset had one big mistake in it even though it conveyed the mood of the convo between Eren and Historia far better than all the others.
this is all so confusing I miss erwin
I don't want genocide to be how this ends. I believe Isayama doesn't intend a story this complex to send a message that genocide is great. Considering some of the mindscrews he's already pulled via Paths, I'm hoping the best mindscrew is yet to come.
Reiner was a snacc
Historia the Antifascist Queen
This is the best chapter
this series is so great man
This whole chapter was a certified Bruh moment (in a good way)
This whole chapter was about Eren dehumanising. And he killed his mom. I wouldn't be surprised if he'll eventually want to kill all Eldians and his friends either.
Loved everything except for Historian's forced reluctant pregnancy.
Here's to 3 more weeks
I hope Eren doesn’t love anyone from the series.
I feel like Isayama is still increasing the pressure to help his final plot twist, I’m still lost as I really don’t agree with Eren’s actions while I see the fandom going crazy over him. Maybe I missed something, maybe I’m wrong, maybe I don’t fully understand Eren. This chapter felt good, I don’t hate the Alliance because they’re part of what I think is the right choice for humanity, but we all honestly wanted to know Eren’s thoughts or a bit of it, as we didn’t see him for a while. English isn’t my first language I’m sorry in advance, loved your poll
I honestly have no idea what's going to happen and the whole time I was reading it I was internally screaming.
Ok I know Ymir (the lesbian) has been dead for years but I miss her so much. She was the dad. Forget Farmer-kun, forget Eren, it was all Ymir.
okay no offense but where’s Levi ☹️
One big tease of erens pov and who the father is
One of the best chapter I ever read! Love it!
Didn't expect the Eren POV but welcomed it anyway. We now have confirmation he wanted everything that happened to happen and even the implication he orchestrated the death of his own mother. That's very tasty
Eren's pov has been hidden for too long and right now I don't think the payoff is worth it
eren exhibits bird behavior & he killed his mom 😕
Eren is a bird confirmed or some shit
Eren later takes Ymir's place in Paths as a sacrifice for many years to fix everything, learning everything he needs by traveling around as, say, birds, as needed to send to his past self to guarantee "that scenery"
Eren is in control of more than we previously thought and this shows evidence of a timeloop scenario
Eren can see the future and can probably manipulate the pure titans at different points in time like the Founder does. It's also likely he's gonna fuse with more shifters to visit other pieces of memory.
Eren is able to use the full power of the FT, that why he can see not only his own memories, but also the memories of other Eldians. All of them are connected to him after all.
He will turn into a bird in the end
So exited that we finally got to see Eren in his Founding Titan-like form!!!! Can’t wait for next month (AoT fan from Japan)
Enjoyed the chapter due to a return to debating the morality of the Rumbling, and seeing it in progress. Also tend to enjoy interaction between Eren and Historia. However, I think the chapter is slightly let down by being cryptic. It's hard to tell what is going on with Eren due to how scenes from this issue and others can be interpreted.
nah mate do people actually read this?
This chapter marks something that has changed everyone's thoughts. Not just about Eren, but Annie, Historia, Zeke, etc. We heard them speak differently, and got a few answers to our questions. We got to see that Annie does indeed have emotions. That Historia did not want this. That Annie never really wanted to kill, nor does she want to anymore. That Zeke actually cared for Eren. That the father is most likely farmer-kun. It's one of the best chapters we've had. Each chapter we get, we get closer to the end of this wonderful story. I can't wait to see what Isayama has planned for in the final chapters. Truly hoping for the best!
reiner's tits dammit
Despite the devastation, I now feel like there is meaning hidden beneath the madness
Creepy and interesting chapter. The official translation confirms further that Eren is going to destroy the world. I’m hoping that the next volume shifts focus to Reiner a little more. I’m also excited for more loose ends to be cleared up.
Damn, only 5 more to go before the end of the greatest story of all time
Enjoyed it but I’m really hoping for some more insight into what’s going on with both eren and historia, I’m not a huge fan of the pregnancy subplot
eren just wants to see if marleyans are made of cake
Eren makes the most amazing villain ever. Will go down as one of my favorite characters ever if the story ends how I hope it will.
Everyone forgets Historia saw her dad’s memories without eating him, without being a shifter, and without touching Eren. We’re still waiting for the payoff...
Fantastic chapter, though it felt really short
Floch was Eren's lieutenant all along, he was his representative, and his actions are therefore Eren's responsability all the same. Get fucked those who didn't want to believe that Eren would consciously choose Floch, believe in him or to set things up for Eren in Paradis.
I'd like it if the Ackerbond was not as supernatural as it was claimed before. Not because of EreMika, MikaHisu would be much better than both options of this chapter. Now we know that Levi or Kenny's loyalty were real, and it warms my heart. Also, my bastard wasn't lying! He knew about the plan.
It confirmed everything we already knew: Historia didn't support Eren's plan, Ackerman weren't slaves, Mikasa's feelings for Eren doesn't have to do with the fact she's an Ackerman and the fandom is stupid for still believing Eren is the father despite him literally telling Zeke that he can't answer Mikasa's feelings, because he only has 4 years left to live.
My heart was beating so hard during Eren and Historia's conversation because I just couldn't believe we were actually seeing her again, it had been 2 years since we got anything this relevant from her and I also just really wanted Isayama to get on with it and tell us who the damm father was so that we could finally move on to other things. I still don't believe it's Eren, but I'm done with that theory, man. No more teasing, please. Two years is far more than enough.
Chapters like this one, which perfectly captures the culmination of Eren's entire journey, make me glad to be alive at this moment in time to experience Isayama's masterpiece. I'm not ready for this story to end in just one more volume.
The ending of this story will not be a gentle tapping of the brakes but a screeching halt followed by hydroplaning and crashing into a ditch
What if the rumbling is all one big sex reveal party for Historia's baby and the Colossal Titans are arranging all the corpses into a female symbol or something.
For 8 months I have been waiting for Eren Jaeger. My favorite fictional character ever. He comes back in best way possible, wow.
Great chapter, too bad half of this dumb fandom misunderstood it and are falsely claiming it confirmed Eren as the father. *facepalm*
Obligatory mention that eren is a manipulative bastard and is a little too far gone in his goal
Ambiguity: The chapter. More questions than answers, no way this ends in 4 chapters. Overall we are all going "Wuh?" like Historia after this chapter.
We are being fucked with.
I cry, eren has been one of my favourite characters in the AoT universe
I didn't think it was possible for Eren to get any worse, but he always manages to surprise me.
I don't care about eremika or erehisu. I just need my rivaere (: haha
i don't care for the alliance and the ship-baiting was making me weary. I just want more eren, zeke and historia. They're the interesting ones.
I don't know what the end will be but i know it will be sad ending!..We all suffer and I mean the world of AOT and the fans who read manga... I will accept all probabilities and the death of heroes, but please do not make Mikasa kill Eren..I mean after all this love that will kill him .. I read many analyzes of the possibility of this happening and I see it as a very bad and irrational end..It is not logical at all..If you did it, the AOT would be one of the worst deeds and to the landfill..Isayama If you have suffered a lot in your life and childhood, we have also suffered in our lives, but please do not bring this suffering into the AOT world
I dont want this to end @ isayama
I hated what direction this story was taking, now I really hate it.
I just feel Isayama hasn't answered so much stuff yet and has also raised the stakes so high that I can't possibly imagine how the story will end. I believe Mikasa's slowly been established as the character who will defeat Eren, but I have no idea how she'll do it... But at least there were beautiful Mikannie crumbs, so I'm happy af and hope they'll have more scenes together now that Annie's about to give up (I mean, there are parallels™ everywhere when it comes to our wonderful lost girls...)
I just hope it's building up to a really good ending.
i just wanna know what's gona happen next man this shit be driving me crazy
I love everything! I hope floch dies though
I love you eren
I need answers!!!
I need Zook back
I really hope this series doesn’t end with a message like “genocide is necessary for peace” I hope someone stops Eren
I really loved the art and double spreads, and seeing Eren's POV after a while
I think it's the 2nd best chapter we've gotten this arc. The 1st being 123. I loved it. I also think it's putting to rest the secret plan theories regarding Eren. I've made my final prediction for the series. I think it's a tragedy that will end in Eren destroying the world & manipulating everyone's memories except for Historia & Mikasa & a new age for humanity will begin.
I'm so glad my girl's back, but I'm confused as hell. There's definitly more to her meeting with Eren and her choosing to be pregnant, we'll see. Also Zook being a love conselor and having a Ackerman phd was hilarious, I love him even more. Erefloch canon.
If he wanted to protect his friends why didn’t he just forge some Marleyan passport/citizenships for them, god wtf
If you think about it we actually didn’t learn anything that wasn’t already heavily implied
im shook
Isayama gave more than i wanted my heart can't take it.
it was very good thank you for asking
It's finally moving forward (as isayama likes to say)
It’s a good chapter but I still with doubts.
JUST DO IT EREN
Just wanna see ZEKE
Kiyoger Theory!!!!!
l'm glad we got to see a bit from Eren's POV. But I still need more answers ;_; why choose rumbling, Eren??? not looking for justification for his actions here but i just want to know /why/ he did it. Still feel like theres a missing link somewhere tbh.. I just hope the ending of snk wont be a disaster like game of thrones where Daenerys' switch came out of nowhere. At this point I just want the series to end asap, the tension build up is killing me lol.
Leaks for 131 when?
Let’s get rrready to RUMBLEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved seeing the rumbling but I wish we could have gotten more character driven moments
Loved this chapter! I'm glad we finally got to learn more of Eren's POV and finally learn what was Historia's role in all of this (or at least beginning to learn her involvement in the plan). Seeing him initiate the Rumbling was epic. The destruction is about to begin!
my brain is too small to understand some of these theories
Now we know that Eren and Floch just pretending to follow Zeke's plan ever since from the beginning but I want to gain more explanations of Eren's secret plan
Oddly placed Eren flashback, but I'll take it
Something's up. I'm still not convinced we can take any of this at face value.
So many flashbacks were a bit hard to follow, but it really seems like the series is gonna end soon and I’m a bit nervous about how well any ending will play out
thank you Isayama for this masterpiece
THE ART IS JUST AMAZING but for me its so short 😭😭😭
That Eren with mid long hair is baby
the alliance has come together way too fast and theyve only really had 1 dispute so far. there needs to be more conflict to make it more realisitic. I think annie saying that they won't be able to/don't want to kill eren is foreshadowing this.
the Art is amazing but flashback scenes were a little mess
The chapter was full of messy memories, so it symbolized Eren's brain well :)
I think that now I understand Eren better. I used to believe he had some secret plan, but the true was always there - Eren is not any master mind. His plan was simple - destroy the whole world. The trauma he had after losing his mother has never been healed. It was always in him, growing bigger and bigger. He still cares about his friends, but he is also lying to himself saying that ""he is doing the rumbling because he wants to see them having long, happy life"". He is doing it because his hatred to the ones who are responsible for Carla's death took control over his heart. Eren is adult, young man but deep down he is still the same, hurt crying child who bears painful memories of losing his mother.
The cycle of war and hatred is saddening. This ain't something fictional, it's something we have always been observing from the earliest human consciousness :(
We all got a big storm comin
We are NOT ready for this shit
we need annie to live longer pls
Well here’s our proof eren is actually going through with the rumbling.
What it would feel like to be Eren right now
what kind of eva BULLSHIT
what the hell is going ON
Where is Floch
where is LEVI
Wheres zeke?
Yams, you're so diabolic. You just want to make the real-life's rumbling with all that "confusing' ship tease xD
Yooooo, we need more explanation about maybe, everything? But amazing and bomb ass chapter though

‘Ida Is Not The End’: Indigenous Residents Face The Future on Louisiana’s Coast – Photo Essay
Communities in Pointe-aux-Chenes and Isle de Jean Charles grapple with question of whether to rebuild or retreat

— Sunday 12 September 2021
Out on the frontiers of the Louisiana coastline, amid winding bayous, battered island roads and sinking land, a swath of fresh devastation for this region’s overlooked Indigenous tribal communities.
Amid the rapid depletion of their land, rising sea levels and coastal erosion, Hurricane Ida pummeled the small communities of Pointe-aux-Chenes and Isle de Jean Charles, home to a number of south-east Louisiana’s coastal tribal groups.
The area endured some of the hurricane’s worst destruction, with many who returned to inspect the damage describing the category 4 storm as the worst they had ever endured during lifetimes punctuated by extreme weather.
Ida also revived questions that many people here have been grappling with for years: whether to stay or go, retreat inland or remain to rebuild in an area already facing the brunt of the climate crisis.
Kip de’Laune looks for salvageable items at his home in Pointe-aux-Chenes.
On Isle de Jean Charles, reached on a roadway surrounded by water that was constructed in 1953, the silence was broken only by the sound of cicadas and mosquitoes. Many homes had been toppled from their stilts, with over half the island’s housing completely destroyed. With no power or running water, it appeared only two people, of the island’s roughly 40 remaining residents, were currently living there permanently.
Elizabeth and Edison Dardar Sr, both 72 and elders in the island’s Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw Tribe, returned just a few days after evacuating. They were living under their severely damaged home beneath a tented blue tarp. Propane and food were running low, but this was not the first time their home had been destroyed by storms. They hoped to rebuild.
Edison and Elizabeth Dardar are living under a blue tented tarp beneath their home in Isle de Jean Charles. There is no power or running water on the island.
Edison, a retired fisherman, sat straight shouldered and recounted his fondest memories of the island, on which his father and grandfather also lived.
“It’s good land,” he said. “People would garden – green beans, lima beans, tomatoes and peas, but then the salt water started rising up.”
Despite the destruction here, there was no question the couple, married 53 years, would stay.
“People have been saying we shouldn’t be here for 50 years,” said Elizabeth. “But if we moved, other people would take our land.”
A few homes down the island’s only roadway, Chris Brunet, a councilman in the tribal government, had evacuated to the closest city, Houma, also still without power. He returns when possible and attempts to clean up his home, which remains partially intact. But with no power, the wheelchair elevator is not operational so he works underneath the stilting.
Top: Chris Brunet at his partially destroyed home in Isle de Jean Charles. Bottom: As the sun began to set, Brunet returned to the city of Houma where he is currently living without power as an evacuee.
In 2016 Isle de Jean Charles became the first community in America to receive federal funding for a sweeping inland retreat due to the effects of the climate crisis. The island’s land mass has decreased by 98%, according to the tribal council, amid flooding, erosion and expansion of oil and gas infrastructure.
Brunet has taken up the option of a new home further inland, but will continue to live here for as long as possible, irrespective of Ida’s damage.
“I want to rebuild,” he said. “I want to hold on to it for as a long as I can. Me selling it or losing it surely ain’t going to change what’s going on out there. It won’t stop how the environment is changing.”
Brunet had returned on Wednesday to place a new sign at the foot of his property. It read “ISLE DE JEAN CHARLES IS NOT DEAD. CLIMATE CHANGE SUCKS.”
Ronald Chiasson helps his friend Chris Brunet nail a sign up that Brunet made to hang in the front of his home. Brunet has vowed to continue living on the island after Ida’s devastation.
As he filled it in, black marker against a bright yellow board, he reflected on the devastation – the homes, the trees, he had known his entire life now crushed on top of each other.
“Climate change has forced us to make decisions that we never wanted to make,” he said. “For me Ida is not the end, it’s just a change.”
On the other side of the island road in lower Pointe-aux-Chenes, there was equal devastation. Elders here assessed that just five of the 40 homes on the west bank of the bayou remained habitable. Many had not recovered from a battering last year during Hurricane Zeta.
More than half the homes on Isle de Jean Charles were destroyed by Ida. Local leaders worry many residents will not return.
At Earline Naquin’s trailer home, remnants of the blue roofing tarps still in place after last year’s storm lay scattered over the muddy ground. The family had applied for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) last time and been rejected. Another initial application after Ida had also been rejected too, despite the complete decimation. They planned to appeal, but Earline, a tribal elder and sister of the Pointe-aux-Chien tribal chief, had already made up her mind. She would leave the community she had lived in her whole life and find somewhere further inland to live permanently.
“We’re getting up in age,” she said. “And we just don’t have the money to clean up and buy things to rebuild any more.”
Her sister and three brothers who live further up the bayou also lost everything.
Top: Earline Naquin, center, and her daughters Liza Naquin, left, and April Badillo, right, with April’s three children at Earline’s destroyed home in Pointe-aux-Chenes. Pieces of blue tarp hung over their roof after last year’s Hurricane Zeta were cut to shreds by Ida. Bottom: April Badillo’s children at Earline Naquin’s home.
Across the bayou, elders Donald and Theresa Dardar were receiving truckloads of donated aid, which flowed into the tribal offices throughout the late morning. Theresa thought back to her youth, when she went out fishing on the lakes with her husband, working as his deckhand. She returned to the same shrimping areas for the first time in decades recently and found them unrecognizable.
“It’s painful to watch,” she said. “All my markings were gone. The bays and the lakes were defined. But they were no more.”
Destruction in Pointe-aux-Chenes. Most of the homes on the west side of the bayou have been destroyed.
Tribal leaders here worried about faltering assistance from the US federal government. There had been little in person contact from Fema as of Wednesday, necessary to unlock grant money to rebuild. And the coastal tribes here, while recognized by the state, are not recognized by the US federal government, making federal aid to the community harder to release.
The lack of recognition felt particularly acute in a moment of crisis.
Left: A flag still flew on a home which received significant damage from Hurricane Ida. Right: Teresa and Donald Dardar at the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribal Center.
For Donald, the disaster was becoming overwhelming. He stepped away when asked what his plans were for the future.
“Our roots are planted here,” said Theresa. “You know, after a storm, sometimes he gets discouraged and says he wants to leave. He said it this time too. But I know it’s just the hurt. In his heart, he wouldn’t be able to leave here.”

Shikaku Nara Masterpost: Part 1
Guess who went through all the Naruto episodes that Shikaku speaks in and made a masterpost of them all? Saving you the time and effort searching for the Shikaku crumbs. This isn’t spoiler free and I’m including a read more for the mobile users bc there’s about 54 episodes to cover all together.
(The episode titles that are in italics are my personal favorites!)
So here we go:
NARUTO (PART ONE):
Episode 59: “The Final rounds: Rush to the Battle Arena” (Chunin Arc)
He’s in it for a few minutes in the beginning. You get to see drunk Shikaku so that’s worth it. He wasn’t expecting Shikamaru to make it past the first part of the exams.
Episode 79: “Beyond the Limit of Darkness and Light” (Konoha Crush)
3 minutes at best. The good news, we get to see InoShikaCho in action. The bad news in order to see the whole thing you gotta skip to Shippuden episode 239.
Episode 98: “Tsunade’s Warning: A Ninja No More!” (Tsunade Retrieval)
4 minutes. He tries to explain to Shikamaru that women are strong but his son is in his “bleh all women suck” stage so much for that speech. I’m just there for the chain mail t-shirt.
Episode 110: “Formation! The Sasuke Retrieval Squad” (Sasuke Arc)
Only in the very beginning reiterating that Yoshino is a strong woman and her smile is the reason he loves her. Everyone knows the speech.
Episode 135: “The Promise that Could Not Be Kept” (Sasuke Arc)
He’s in it for a whole 5 minutes but those minutes are important. Shikaku tries to make Shikamaru understand that quitting the shinobi lifestyle after his first failure won’t stop the fighting but, if he stays he can lead teams and prevent others from dying. It seemed tough but those words stuck to Shikamaru. Also Shikaku smiles because Tsunade complements him? Hello?
NARUTO SHIPPUDEN (PART TWO)
Episode 82: “Team Ten” (Asuma’s Death)
Jumping right in he’s in this episode for 6 minutes however it’s an important bit. He knows Shikamaru is suffering and he also knows shinobi shouldn’t be emotionless when it comes to grief. Key lines: “I’m proud to be your parent” and once Shikamaru starts crying he quietly tells his son “I’ll pick up your pieces”.
Episode 89: “The Price of Power.” (Kakuzu/Hidan Fight)
5 minutes. Shikamaru catches up with his father after enacting his revenge. The discuss the answer to Asuma’s riddle. It’s a sweet moment.
Episode 163: “Explode! Sage Mode!” (Pain arc)
Maybe like 30 seconds. He makes sure his son is okay after Pain destroys Konoha.
Episode 164: “Danger! Sage Mode Limit Reached!” (Pain arc)
His only line in this is “Sit tight Shikamaru.”
Episode 165: “Nine-Tails, Captured!” (Pain Arc)
He’s in it for 10 minutes. Inoichi, Ino, Shikamaru, Shiho and Shikaku come up with a way to take Pain down. Notable line: Shikamaru tells Ino to stop crying over Ino and Shikaku asks his son to “say it nicer.”
Episode 166: “Confessions” (Pain Arc)
If you blink you’ll miss him. He confirms something and the Inoichi takes over. I did say crumbs.
Episode 169: “The Two Students” (Pain Arc)
5 whole minutes. Naruto wants to leave to find the Real Pain to talk abut Inoichi thinks talking will get no where and attempts to stop Naruto. Shikaku steps in and tells Naruto to go. When Inoichi asks why he let Naruto go, Shikaku explains that his son convinced him that Naruto is the future.
Episode 173: “The Origin of Pain” (Pain Arc)
Literally just the omake at the very end. The cute parts: Shikaku smiles, he makes dad noises after InoShikaCho makes their pose, and they forgot Shino’s dad.
Episode 175: “Hero of the Leaf” (Pain Arc)
His only line is: “Naruto has settled things.”
Episode 177: “Iruka’s Ordeal” (Filler)
3 minutes of screen time but! this is the episode where Shikamaru asks him about Naruto. Shikaku asks his son if he thinks Naruto is good. Shika does so Shikaku says then you should be his friend. Another cute dad moment.
Episode 178: “Iruka’s Decision.” (Filler arc / Pain ending )
He appears the last few minutes explaining to Yamato what happened to the village.
Episode 179: “Kakashi Hatake, the Jonin in Charge” (Filler)
Shikaku is throughout the episode it’s worth watching him fight Danzo during the Council meeting. He plugs Kakashi’s name as the next Hokage and he has a cute little flashback where he makes sure Asuma is going to be a good jonin leader to his son. Notable line “Take care of my son.”
Episode 217: “The Infiltrator” (Konoha Rebulid)
Literally the only shot. If you blink you will miss him.
Episode 218: “The Five Great Nations Mobilize” (Konoha Rebuild)
That’s it. Right there. That’s the only part. He wants his son to join him in the pre war council.
Episode 219: “Kakashi Hatake, the Hokage” (Konoha Rebuild)
5 minutes. He gets Kakashi and walks him to the Council room. Kakashi explains he’d much rather have Shikaku be the Hokage and he tells Kakashi that he’s too old and he should be retired by now.
Episode 220: “Prophecy of the Great Lord Elder” (Pre-War Arc)
2 minute screen time. He discusses the war council with Shikamaru.
Episode 222: “The Five Kage’s Decision.” (Pre-War Arc)
He speaks for 2 minutes but he’s mostly floating around behind Tsunade. He brings up some war plans and looks cute doing it.
Episode 231: “The Closed Routine” (Pre-War Arc)
Just 5 mins of him talking about more war plans. Most of the Pre-war and War eps is just him yelling plans to Tsunade or Inoichi. He is the Brilliant Military Advisor of the Leaf after all.
Episode 234: “Naruto’s Favorite Pupil” (Pre-War Arc)
That’s all. Right there.
Episode 239: “The Legendary Ino-Shika-Cho” (Konoha Crush/Filler)
The return of the pelt and chain mail t-shirt bless. The episode is full of Shikaku. More than half of the episode is about the best trio during Konoha Crush. All the little bits you didn’t get in episode 79.
Episode 243: “Land Ahoy! Is this the Paradise Island?” (Pre-War Arc)
If you blink you’ll miss him. He’s in the very beginning and that’s it.
Episode 248: “The Fourth Hokage’s death Match!” (Filler)
You get one whole minute of Shikaku yelling at people to evacuate the area.
Episode 256: “Assemble! Allied Shinobi Forces!” (War Arc)
Shikaku discusses the first meeting strategy for the war and then assembles the medical squad. 3 minutes tops.
Episode 267: “The Brilliant Military Advisor of the Hidden Leaf!” (War Arc)
One of the best episodes. It’s all about Shikaku and his brilliant mind. Key points: Onoki mentions how amazing Shikaku’s plan is and even when there was a hiccup Shikaku managed to reroute his original idea into a successful one.
Episode 270: “Golden Bonds” (War Arc)
Physically he’s in the episode for 2 minutes but he does a lot of disembodied voice overs to Shikamaru. Key lines: He tells Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji to “Be confident” and that “when old legends die, new ones are born” to try and cheer the kids up. It worked.

So Close - S.S. XLI
Summary: The universe has a funny way of putting the things you want right in front of you, but just out of reach. Stiles and Y/N have been best friends ever since Scott brought him home, but when Stiles realizes that he might want to be something other than best friends, she leaves to go to some fancy private school up North. Now that she’s back though … maybe he’s got a shot? A Teen Wolf AU in which the reader has always been so close to Stiles and yet so far.
Masterlist Prev. | Part 41
Word-count: 6.7k+
A/N: not to like shamelessly self-promote but like. you guys might like this prompt i did for stiles 👀
You couldn’t sleep. Even with your friends safely back in your life and Stiles asleep next to you, you couldn’t sleep. Eventually, you rolled onto your side and watched the rise and fall of Stiles’ chest as he snored. You smiled and reached over to play with his hair. His heartbeat slowed after a little while and his snoring became a bit softer.
Taking your hand back after a while and lying down again, you pulled up your shirt and ran your hand along where the bullet hole should have been. It was freaky; your skin was perfect. You’d been injured internally plenty of times and healed but this was the first time you’d had a proper external wound. It healed slowly at first, better than a human but nothing to write home about, and then Deaton gave you blood. It made you feel sick. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
“Hey,” Stiles said softly. When did he wake up? He yawned and moved closer, putting his hand on top of the one you had on your stomach. His thumb grazed where the wound should have been. “You know I didn’t mean what I said earlier, right? My mouth kinda moves before my brain does sometimes.”
You smiled. “Yeah, I know.” You squeezed his hand before turning back onto your side to face him. “I wouldn’t blame you if you did, though. I mean, it is pretty weird.”
“You could never be weird to me,” Stiles said. Then he squeezed his eyes shut and groaned. “That was, like, ridiculously lame. I’m sorry. I just meant … you know. I’m usually the one being maimed, not you.”
“Yeah and it hurts like a bitch,” you said with a sharp exhale and a roll of your eyes.
Stiles laughed and lifted his hand to your face. “Yeah, the worrying isn’t that great either. You wanna trade back?”
“Kind of wish we could give up both,” you said with a small smile.
Stiles shifted and pulled you into his arms. He kissed the top of your head and sighed. “At least, for now, we’re both safe. Neither maimed nor worried.”
“I like the sound of that.” You found his hand again. “Almost as much as your use of ‘nor.’”
“You liked that, huh?”
“Yeah, it really distracted from the blatant lie that neither of us is worried right now.”
Stiles laughed and then it was quiet for a moment. You could hear Noah’s heart beating in his sleep down the hall, but Stiles’ beat louder. His fingers drummed your arms in the silence. You didn’t want to ruin the moment, but you had to tell him what happened.
“Theo wants me in his pack,” you said. No use sugar-coating it. Stiles’ drumming stopped. “He called me the shadow wolf. Said that I was more like them than I was like you guys.”
“He’s wrong,” Stiles said instantly. You could almost hear him frowning. “You know that, right?”
“The thing is … I don’t think he is wrong,” you said quietly. “With all the chimeras - even before we knew they weren’t like us - I felt bound to them. Like whatever they’re made of … maybe I am too. I- I’m not going to join them. I hate Theo. And even if I didn’t, I could never leave you or Scott.”
Stiles was quiet, working hard to choose the right words. As much as you loved him for it, if he didn’t say something soon, you were going to throw up. When he did speak, he didn't start asking the questions you knew were bouncing around in his head. All he said was: “You promise you’re not gonna leave?”
“I promise. No matter what.”
With that out of the way, Stiles relaxed. Still, you waited for him to say something. To ask what you meant, maybe even what it felt like to 'be bound' to the chimeras. But he was quiet, so quiet that you thought he’d actually gone to sleep until he said, “I’m gonna kick his ass.”
“Can I shoot him first? I’m still pretty pissed off about that.”
“Of course. Then you can hold him down while I kick him in the-”
With that colorful image in mind, you went to sleep with a smile on your face. Unaware of Stiles lying awake and anxious next to you.
---
Usually, after half of your group got injured and while you were making plans, things were at least a bit quieter for a few days. Unfortunately, the Dread Doctors weren’t so kind as your other foes; you’d only been shot yesterday and now you were racing down the highway with Scott and Stiles, chasing after the Beast behind a group of police.
“Unit Five heading northwest on Crescent reporting an incredibly large … something,” Clark said over the radio.
Another deputy responded, “Unit Nine to Dispatch, I think I’ve got eyes on the same thing. Some kind of rabid animal.”
“Unit Five to Nine, trust me: That’s no animal,” Clark said.
You laughed and unbuckled, leaning forward to poke your head between Scott and Stiles in the front. “She’s not wrong.”
“Yeah, but-”
Scott was cut off by Strauss coming in over the radio. “Unit Six to Dispatch, we have a situation downtown. Multiple fatalities.”
The voice of the dispatcher sounded cold compared to the overwhelmed officers. “Copy, medics on the way. Do you have a perp insight, Unit Six?”
“Negative,” Strauss said. He sounded overwhelmed. You guessed as weird as Beacon Hills was, not many people knew how to react after a werewolf attack. “Looks like a 10-91E. Animal attack.”
“10-4, can you say what kind of animal?” the dispatcher asked.
Stiles pulled out his radio before Strauss could answer. He also pumped the accelerator and you held onto Scott to keep from sliding back into your seat. “All units stay back. Do not engage,” Stiles said. “I repeat, do not engage.”
“Stiles, get off the radio,” Noah snapped. You almost laughed as Stiles handed you the radio to put back. Still, Noah added, “All unit alert: Wait for back-up. Repeat: No one goes near this thing.”
“Unit Five reporting a sighting on Hill Road southbound.”
“Unit Nine. I’ve got it turning off Oakridge, southbound on Beachwood.”
“All units, this is Dispatch. We’ve got a 911 call with an additional sighting on Mitchell.”
“Wait a second? Beachwood to Mitchell?” Stiles asked.
“It’s headed back for the hospital,” Scott said.
“Mom’s working tonight,” you said. “I’ll call her. Stiles, you gotta tell your dad.”
Stiles grabbed the radio instantly. “It’s headed to the hospital. Dad-”
“Stiles, get off this channel,” Noah said.
Stiles started arguing with his dad and you bounced your leg as you waited for your mom to answer her phone. The first call rang out so you texted her and tried again.
Melissa sounded tired when she answered. “Hey, honey, we’re pretty swamped at the-”
“Mom, you’ve gotta evacuate the hospital,” you rushed out. She started arguing but you talked over her. “Whatever the Beast is, it’s heading towards the hospital. And it’s going to kill people.”
You fell back into your seat as Stiles changed course towards Beacon Memorial. He was going as fast as the Jeep could manage, but the drive felt agonizingly slow. It was made worse by the constant updates from the police radio. The latest being a man on fire running into Beacon Memorial.
When you eventually did get to the hospital, it felt abandoned and eerily similar to that night with the durach and a dying Cora Hale. You shoved those thoughts aside when a gun cocked behind you, overridden by your instinct to pull Stiles behind you.
“Jesus Christ.” You let out a breath when you realized the threat was only Noah. He held his index finger to his mouth and shushed you.
As much as you loved Noah, you could have strangled him right there. Once again, you shoved those thoughts aside when the lights flickered and snarling rose in the distance.
“Fourth floor,” Scott said.
You all nodded and headed up as quickly as you could. Noah took the lead, followed by Scott and then Stiles - you’d insisted on taking the rear in case anything snuck up on you guys.
The fourth floor was ruined. Almost none of the lights still worked (luckily, not a problem for you and Scott), the electricity crackled through torn-open wires, and parts of the ruins were on fire. You wandered around the dark halls until something flew down the hallway in front of you. Since you noticed it first, you pulled Stiles into you and Scott pulled Noah back just before the fireball roared past.
It hit some partitioning and the flames went out. That wasn’t a random fireball; that was Parrish. Cut, charred, and disoriented Parrish. Parrish with glowing eyes.
His eyes extinguished as Noah made his way over to him, but you couldn’t focus on their reunion. Something had thrown Parrish across the fourth floor. Something big.
Scott walked ahead of you, but soon you found a paw print in the dust. The two of you didn’t need to say anything to know that you were going to follow the trail. The paw prints started changing, turning into something smaller and more human. Eventually, you found a sneaker print.
It struck you as odd that it would be a shoe print and not a footprint. Parrish was made out of fire and completely naked when you found him, and the Beast was made out of shadows. Maybe it was just different. Parrish wasn’t a chimera. At least you didn’t think he was.
“Scott …” You weren’t sure what you were going to say.
“I know,” he said with a sigh.
---
Once again, you and your friends were gathered around the island in your kitchen talking through the logistics of a crazy plan. The only thing that made this time different from all the others was the fact that Lydia was missing.
“We get into Eichen, we get into the Closed Unit, we get Lydia, and we get out,” Stiles said, summarizing his (already very long, very detailed) explanation.
“And we have to do it all of this while getting past orderlies, guards, electric door locks, and a Mountain Ash barrier,” Scott said.
“You guys have a plan for all that?” Malia asked.
Stiles pulled out a keycard. “I stole this off an orderly when I visited Lydia.” He paused, looking over at the card. “But it’s useless ‘cause they reset the codes each night.”
“So why did you take it?” Kira asked.
“He’s building up to that,” you said quietly, taking your eyes of Stiles to look at Kira.
“The only way to get Lydia out of Eichen is to make that keycard work again,” Scott said.
“And how are you going to do that?” Liam asked. You held back a smile.
Stiles held out a hand. “We’re getting to that, okay? Just listen.” He spun the laptop around to show you guys a data table. “I pulled all the history off the keycard. Two weeks ago, there was a brownout and the security system rebooted. During a reboot, all of the keycards revert back to a default code. So, if we trigger a reboot …”
“The card goes back to the default code,” you said. “All the keycards work again.”
“But how are we going to cause a brownout?” Kira asked.
“That’s your part,” Scott said with a hopeful smile. “You’re going to draw power from the mainline, but only enough to cause the brownout.”
That’s where Stiles jumped in to ruin their moment. “But not a blackout. If you do that, you send Eichen into lockdown which would be bad. Very, very bad.”
You touched Stiles’ arm lightly to get his attention. He was freaking Kira out. Stiles looked at you with an expression that said he was sorry, and you gave him an encouraging smile. He got a little carried away sometimes but he always meant well.
Scott, forever oblivious, kept talking and tapped on the blueprints that covered the island. “There’s an electrical room behind the reception counter,” he said. “The main power line goes into two breakers that run power to all of Eichen.”
“Okay, slight problem,” Kira said, looking ready to have a panic attack. “I don’t know how to do that.”
“That’s okay, you have time to practice,” Scott said with another trademarked hopeful smile.
“Let’s say all this goes perfectly,” Malia started in a voice that said she expected none of this to go perfectly. “How does the brownout get us into the Closed Unit of Eichen?”
“The system takes five minutes to reboot.” Stiles looked over at Malia. “In those five minutes, all the alarms will be turned off. And the keycard should work-”
“And then Liam, you, me, and Y/N get Stiles to the gate of the Closed Unit,” Scott said.
“After that, Stiles is on his own,” you said. Stiles reached for your hand under the table. “He’s the only one of us who can get through the mountain ash barrier.”
“And when we’re gone, all anyone’s going to think is that there was a reboot of the security system caused by a brownout,” Scott finished.
“So, uh … any questions?” Stiles asked.
They all started talking at the same time. From Liam: How do we get into Eichen House in the first place. Malia wanted to know what the worst-case scenario was. Kira asked what happened if she couldn’t trigger the brownout.
“Okay, admittedly, a lot could go wrong,” Stiles said, holding up his free hand in surrender.
“Everything could go wrong,” Liam said.
Stiles' open hand turned into a fist as you tilted your head. “Biscuit,” you said softly. Liam shrugged and started defending himself when Scott started talking.
“Guys, if we don’t do this, we lose Lydia,” Scott said. “She’s going to die in there tonight. And she might take a lot of innocent people with her.”
“We can do this,” you said. Your friends didn’t look convinced. “Okay, we’ve done a lot worse. At least this time we have a plan.”
---
Eichen House still freaked you out, but you could only imagine what it felt like to Stiles. So many bad things had happened to him here, and you had the feeling that more bad things were still going to happen. Then again, maybe the paranoia was coming from the fact that you were inside a body bag and lying next to an actual dead body.
Parrish was surprisingly good under pressure; when the guard made him open the bags, he was completely calm. Your heart spiked at the sound of the first zip being undone, but then Parrish started opening yours and you got ready for a fight. The fight never came. The guard valued his dinner too much.
Once you were in the morgue, you had to wait a few minutes before any of you could do anything. Stiles' heart was beating out of his chest. Admittedly, so was yours. You tore the bag open without waiting for the others, but they didn’t need any more encouragement after they heard you breaking out.
“Oh my god,” Stiles said between gasps of air. “Never again.”
“How much time do we have?” you asked as you got to your feet. Liam was closest, so you helped him out of his bag and to his feet. He mumbled a thank you as you waited for an answer.
Scott checked his phone. “Fifteen minutes, starting now.”
“Then let’s get started!” Stiles started fumbling to get out of his bag and fell to the floor. “Ow! Jesus.”
You hurried over to help Stiles up. He muttered obscenities the whole time but he accepted your help nonetheless. Scott got out of his bag safely, and then you just had to wait for the orderlies to leave the hallway. As soon as they were gone, you were on the move.
You wanted Scott to take the lead but Stiles knew this place better than any of you did, and personal knowledge trumped an hour spent studying floor plans any day. The best you could do was follow behind him and keep a careful watch for anything that might be a threat.
The orderlies blocking your way to the closed unit were definitely a threat.
You pulled Stiles back and Scott grabbed Liam. The four of you pressed yourselves against the wall in an attempt to hide, and the memory of doing something similar with Isaac, Erica, and Stiles popped into your mind. That felt like such a long time ago.
“What are they doing here?” Scott whispered.
“I don’t know,” Stiles said, stealing a glance down the hall. “Their rounds should’ve ended five minutes ago.”
Liam was decidedly less subtle with his look at the orderlies. “I can take them,” he said.
Both Stiles and Scott glared at him for a moment. “No one’s taking anyone,” Scott said.
“How much time?” Stiles asked, cutting Scott's alpha moment short.
Scott checked his phone and sighed. “Three minutes.”
“I’ll just knock them out and hide the bodies,” Liam said. He was adorably oblivious.
Stiles looked so close to slapping him that you instinctively reached for his hand to calm him down. “Oh my god, please stop,” he said.
One of the patients banged on the glass and scared you all out of your mini-argument. “Did you talk to the doctor?” he asked.
“What?” Liam whispered.
“Did you talk to the doctor?” he repeated. You looked over at Stiles uncertainly. “I haven’t had my medication. I need ten milligrams at 8am, 15 milligrams at 1pm, and no more than 20 at dinner.”
“We’ll get the doctor,” Scott said.
“Doctor Fenris?” the patient asked. Another beat of silence and you hoped that your nod was enough to calm him. “Doctor Fenris.” Then he started crying. He hit the glass as he said, “They took Doctor Fenris.”
“Guys-” You flinched when he hit the glass again. “He’s going to blow our cover. I can take the blame and get the orderlies out of here.”
“No way, you’re not going anywhere,” Stiles said. “Scott, do something.”
“What am I supposed to do?” Scott whispered.
The patient stopped banging on the glass, but he was still distressed. “I haven’t had my medication. I need to see the doctor.” Stiles looked down the hallway. The orderlies were coming closer. “They took Doctor Fenris.”
“Somebody shut him up,” Stiles said.
“I need to see the doctor!”
“Shut him up.”
You pulled your hand away from Stiles before he could argue and stepped into the hallway. “I told you: I don’t know where the doctor is, alright?” you said to the patient. “I’m just looking for my brother- nurses, could you help me? This place is like a freaking maze.”
“How did you get here?” one of the orderlies asked, roughly grabbing hold of your arm.
“I was looking for my brother. They said he was moved to another unit and that they’d take me to see him but no one ever came.” You shook your head and gave them a very clueless smile. “I’m sorry. Is this area, like, restricted or something?”
The orderly that had your arm looked ready to bite your head off but the other one just shook his head and gave you a tired smile. Either he wasn't paid enough or people wandering around the halls was a common occurrence.
“Let’s take you back to the reception area, okay?” he said. “They can sign you in and track down your brother. You can come to see him during visiting hours tomorrow.”
You forced a laugh and started following them down the stairs not too far away from the gate that your friends would need to break through in a few seconds. “You’re the nicest person I’ve run into all night,” you told him, careful to smile at the grumpy one too.
You carried on with your charade all the way back to the reception area, and then you gave them an annoyingly over-the-top thank you. They smiled and told you to wait for the nurse behind the counter to come back. You did not. As soon as they were out of sight, you made a b-line for the electrical room.
Malia immediately grabbed you and threw you against the wall as soon as you opened the door. She looked confused to see you but still held onto you.
“Relax, it’s just me,” you said, holding your hands up defensively.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. "You're supposed to be with Scott and Stiles."
“The dummies almost got busted,” you said with a small shrug. “I fixed it and came to check on you guys. Hey, Kira. How’s it going?”
Kira looked away from her small opening in the door and gave you a small smile. “Could be better. I don’t know if these guards are supposed to be here. How are we going to get out?”
Malia let go of you and the two of you walked over to check out the guards. “We don’t want to set off any alarms until Lydia is out,” she said.
“You’re right. Maybe we could-”
You stopped talking when one of the guards came in over the radio. The perimeter guard hadn’t checked in. You looked at Malia when the two guards rushed out to see what caused the delay. She shrugged and closed the door.
"Not our problem," she said.
Kira leaned against the door to get a better listen, but you and Malia didn’t need to. You heard the nurse loud and clear when he told someone that visiting hours were over, and then you heard Tracy tell him that they weren’t there to visit.
“Shit,” you whispered.
They pulled the nurse across the counter and slammed him to the ground. Tracy wanted to finish him off, but Theo said they were on a schedule and it was better to leave him. You, Kira, and Malia held a collective breath until the chimeras left.
Malia was the first one out the door and she slapped the nurse to get him to wake up. It didn’t work but at least his heart was beating.
“It’s started,” Kira said, looking down at her electrified hands.
“Then we need to get you out of here,” you said. You reached out to grab her arm but stopped when you remembered how she fried Scott. “Let’s go.”
“But what about the others?” Kira asked.
“They should already be back at the morgue,” Malia said. “We need to go.”
Kira took a second to decide and then jumped over the nurse and the three of you made a run for the morgue before Kira messed up Eichen’s frequency again. The others weren’t there, so you hoped they’d gone to the van instead. The alarm started blaring before you could share your theory.
You grabbed the sides of your head and collapsed in on yourself. Malia grabbed your arm to pull you out and reached for the doorknob, but it was electrified and both of you got electrocuted as a result. To top it off, the alarm still made your ears bleed.
Malia took a deep breath once she got back to her feet. “Lockdown,” she said.
You were still cringing on the ground when Scott started roaring. When your body got to its feet, it felt like being possessed again; you weren’t the one who moved your body. But once the brief discomfort was over, your head was clear and the alarm didn’t hurt so much anymore.
“Something’s wrong,” you rushed out. “I need to go help them.”
“No,” Malia argued, turning back to the door as the lights went out. “We need to get out of here.”
You were still arguing when Kira started lighting up again. The buzzing of the electricity didn’t freak you out so much as how worried she looked. She was terrified of messing things up again.
“I don’t know how long I’m going to last,” Kira said.
“How did you stop it before?” Malia asked.
“Scott carried me outside, which almost killed him,” Kira said.
“I’ve already died. It’s not so bad,” you said. You shrugged. “I can take you out.”
“Maybe we could try grounding her to something,” Malia said. “Lydia was teaching me about circuits before-”
You tackled Malia as a bolt of electricity shot out from Kira and hit the door where Malia had been. You held onto her as Kira’s lightning struck every metal surface it could find.
“You guys have to get out of here!” she yelled.
“We’re not leaving you,” you told her.
Kira hit one of the body holds as she turned her back to you. You and Malia got to your feet as Kira cried, “I should’ve stayed in the desert with the Skinwalkers. I can’t control this. I’m never going to be able to.”
“Kira, it worked,” Malia said. “You saw it work. You controlled it enough to cause the brownout. You can stop it.”
“I can’t!” Kira turned to glare at you and her eyes glowed an angry golden color. “Go!”
Even if you wanted to, an escape wasn’t possible because Kira electrified the entirety of her side of the room. Malia pulled you closer to her again and you both waited for the electrical storm to pass, careful not to touch anything conductive.
The storm passed as quickly as it started.
“Kira?”
Slowly, you both got to your feet, but then you had to pull Malia back from grabbing Kira’s unconscious body. She argued with you but you shook your head.
“She’ll kill you,” you said.
“She’s right,” Josh said. You both pulled away from Kira to focus on him. “Electricity is still coming off your friend. I can feel it from here. But I can help her.”
“Why?” Malia asked.
“Because I need your help.” Josh stepped away from the door and revealed Corey bleeding out in the hallway. “With him.”
“Oh my god, Corey.” You started forward when Malia caught your arm. She didn’t trust them; you didn’t blame her. “Mal, we’ve gotta help him.”
Malia let go and you rushed over to Corey. You tried to lift him but he was in too much pain. Josh took Corey’s other side and looked over at you. “I knew you’d help,” he said.
You didn’t know what to say, so you just hurried to get Corey on one of the exam tables. He was in so much pain. Almost his entire body was charred. He must have gotten caught up with Parrish.
“Why isn’t he healing?” Josh asked.
“Maybe he can’t. Maybe it’s too much,” Malia said.
“He’s going to die, isn’t he?” Josh asked.
“His heartbeat is getting slower,” you said. “But I can try to take away his pain. It could help.”
“It might even get him to start healing,” Malia said generously. “But we’ll only do it if you help Kira.” More sparks flew and you all ducked. “You said you could help!”
“Yeah, but it’s not like taking voltage from a car battery,” Josh argued. “She’s got a lot more power than that.” Corey groaned on the table. “Are you two going to do something or not?”
“Mal-”
“After you help her. I don’t trust you,” Malia said.
“I don’t trust you either!”
“Josh, do you trust me?” you asked. You’d never been close before, but you were something else now. “You said you knew I’d help him. I will, I promise.”
More sparks.
“We go at the same time,” Malia said, snapping his attention back to her. “Deal?”
Josh nodded reluctantly and walked over to Kira. You and Malia held each of Corey’s arms as Josh knelt over Kira. “On three?” he asked. “One.”
“Two.”
“Three.”
The lights started flickering as Josh absorbed Kira’s electricity, but it was the least of your concerns after only a second of taking Corey’s pain. Until now, you’d never understood the phrase ‘blinding pain’ but with your vision blurring and your entire body burning, it had new meaning.
But Corey’s heart started beating again. Rapidly. He was breathing. Kira gasped for air on the floor but it was almost impossible to hear over Josh’s screams.
Between you and Malia, Corey’s pain faded after a minute. Josh managed to get Kira conscious and not electrified. You stayed with him but Malia went to check on Kira and Josh came back to Corey.
“Anybody know how we’re supposed to get out of here?” Corey asked, sounding scared and hurt.
“This place is still in lockdown,” Malia said.
“But it’s not just locked,” Kira said after shooting a look at the door.
“Yeah, I can feel it, too,” Josh said.
“Well, what are we supposed to do?” Corey asked. “Just wait here?”
“We had a backup plan,” you said. Malia didn’t look like she wanted you to tell them, but you did anyway. “Mason is supposed to reset the transformer.”
“How’s he gonna do that?” Josh asked, at the same time that Corey asked if you meant his Mason.
“He’s got the blueprints of the building,” Kira said. “And he has the full map of Eichen’s electrical system. All he has to do is get into the transformer shed behind the building.”
“Don’t worry. Mason knows exactly what he’s doing,” Malia said.
You had to smile to yourself. Thinking back to your first few weeks with Malia when you couldn’t stand her and she said that she would leave you in the desert, you almost couldn’t believe how much she’d grown.
Malia and Kira kept huddled by the body holds while Josh rushed to the door to wait. Everyone was healing now, but you still felt ready to throw up. Taking away Corey’s pain had taken it out of you and if you didn’t drink some blood soon then you weren’t going to be much of a help to anyone. Surprisingly, Corey stayed with you by the exam tables. You heard the shutters on the windows roll back and then Josh pushed the door open.
“He did it!” Josh said.
“We gotta get to the Jeep,” you said, hopping off the table and running out with Kira and Malia.
It didn’t take long to get to the parking lot, and even less time to get to the front and pick up the guys and Lydia. You tossed the keys to Scott as you got out and asked if Lydia was okay.
“No, and we need to go,” Scott said. “We need to get Lydia out of here.”
Before he could get very far, Parrish collapsed onto the Jeep’s hood with claw marks all over his back. “Sorry, but she’s coming with me,” Tracy said. She held onto Lydia, no doubt paralyzing her as she did.
“Okay, Tracy. Just wait,” Scott said. “You don’t know what’s about to happen.”
“I’m taking her. That’s what’s happening,” Tracy said. “And none of you are going to do a thing-”
Electricity crackled and Tracy collapsed. Natalie stood behind her with one of the guard’s nightsticks in her hands. You and Stiles reached out to catch Lydia, but you faltered and he caught her.
“Could somebody please get my daughter out of this hellhole?” Natalie asked.
You helped get Lydia into the car with Stiles in the back. She looked awful, and you could smell the dried blood and gore in her hair. It was nothing on her fear though, nothing on Stiles’ fear either.
Scott drove as fast as he could, but Lydia’s heart was beating too quickly. Without any warning, she let out a scream that burst your eardrum closest to her. Heightened senses meant you were weaker when it came to loud noises like that, and Lydia's scream wasn't like any other loud noise. Stiles started bleeding and the mirrors cracked. You yelled at Scott to drive faster.
Even though the drive to the animal clinic was stressful, helping Deaton treat Lydia was even worse. Your brain was addled by the scream, and she kept screaming until Deaton injected her with mistletoe, straight into the spot where she’d been trepanned. Her final scream shattered all the windows in the clinic but you reacted too slowly.
Scott protected Lydia but Stiles tackled you to the ground, bits of glass sinking into his back.
“Stiles,” you said softly, hands reaching up to his face. The side of his face was still bloody from Lydia’s screams. “What are you-”
“Someone has to take care of you,” he said quietly.
You were both snapped out of your moment by Scott trying and failing to wake Lydia up again. You held onto Stiles’ hand as the two of you joined the others by the table. You couldn’t even hear her heartbeat.
She let out a low moan as her heart started again. Lydia looked terrified when she opened her eyes again but she held onto Stiles’ other hand when he reached for her.
“Are you okay?” he asked. She held onto him and nodded quickly. “You’re okay.” He took a deep breath. “Do you want to try to sit up?”
Stiles helped Lydia sit up, wincing slightly from the glass, and she looked around slowly. Her eyes landed on Natalie in the doorway. “Mom?”
“Oh, honey.” Natalie rushed over to Lydia and pulled her into a hug. She looked relieved for the first time in weeks.
“They saved me,” Lydia said weakly. “Stiles saved me.”
Natalie looked up from Lydia to make eye contact with Stiles. “Thank you,” she said. After her blow up the day before, you knew it meant a lot to him for her to apologize.
Stiles smiled at her to let her know that everything was fine, but then he winced again and ruined his heroic image. He still looked pretty heroic to you, but Natalie was a mother and all she saw was a broken boy covered in glass.
“Let’s get you home, huh?” Natalie flattened Lydia’s hair and kissed her head. She looked ready to cry when she touched Lyd’s trepanation wound. “You can take a bath and we can watch The Notebook. Hmm?”
“I can come with, if you want,” Scott offered with a smile.
Lydia nodded, not bothering to hide the tears in her eyes. She thanked you on her way out and soon it was just you, Stiles, and an awful lot of broken glass.
“Sit with me,” you said gently, tugging on Stiles’ arm to bring him to the exam table. It was so reckless of him to shield you like that but you couldn’t be mad at him. Not when he'd gotten hurt protecting you. “Do you want me to take your pain while I take the glass out?”
“And here I was thinking you wanted to makeout with me to say thank you for saving you from all that glass,” Stiles said with a lazy smile as he watched you get Deaton’s tweezers. You gave him a look and he laughed. “No, I can handle it.”
“You sure?”
Stiles nodded and you bit your lip. You weren’t sure if you had it in you to take his pain away, but still. Taking out all this glass was going to take a while and it was going to hurt.
You started with the shards furthest away from his spine, doing your best to ignore his wincing. The closer you got to his spine, the worse his pain got. You put your hand on his shoulder and tried to take his pain away like you did with Corey, but you pulled your hand away when it started burning.
Thankfully, Stiles was too wrapped up to notice your blunder, but it was pretty hard not to when your hand started shaking. The glass clattered into the metal dish with the other shards and you took a deep breath.
“Hey, you okay?” Stiles asked, looking over his shoulder at you.
“Yeah, just-” You took a breath and squeezed your eyes shut. “Just a bit light-headed. It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to drink.”
“Oh,” Stiles said softly. He looked down for a second and then used his hands to turn on the table to face you, no doubt opening some fresh wounds in the process. “You know you could do it if you wanted to.”
You frowned. “Do what?”
“Drink my blood,” Stiles said. God, when did this become your life? “If you can’t wait until we get home … you could do it.”
“No. No, I couldn’t,” you said. You took a step back. “Stiles, I would kill you. And even if I could control it - which I can’t - I could never ask you to do that.”
“But you didn’t ask, I offered.” Stiles reached for your hand and you felt so guilty for putting him through this.
“I know, but I- I can’t risk hurting you,” you said.
Stiles was quiet for a second. He looked down and drummed on the table for a second. “Malia told me you don’t heal without it.”
Snitch.
“Yeah, but I’m not the one that’s hurt right now.” You sighed and took a step forward to press your forehead to his, your hand holding onto his neck. Your thumb ran across his neck. “Let’s just get you cleaned up, alright?”
Stiles was so still, but eventually, he took a breath and nodded. “Okay,” he said softly. He kissed your hand before you pulled away to finish cleaning him up. He took in a sharp breath when you pulled out the largest (and, thankfully, the last) piece of glass. You apologized repeatedly but it just made Stiles laugh and then wince. “Hey, at least it's over now,” Stiles said in an attempt to comfort you.
You laughed and put the tweezers down. “Close. We still have to clean the cuts if you don’t want an infection.”
“Maybe I want an infection. I could get superpowers,” Stiles said between yawns. You walked around the table and he pulled you into a hug. His face was in your hair when he mumbled, “Do you think it’ll scar?”
“Not if I have anything to do with it,” you said. You pulled back and ran a hand through his hair. “This part will be quick, okay? Can I take your shirt off?”
“You can take my shirt off any time, babe.” Stiles leaned back and gave you a lazy grin which made you laugh despite the horrible night you’d had.
“Slow down, Stilinski. Let’s finish this first.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Don’t call me ma’am.”
“Sir, yes, sir.”
You rolled your eyes and pushed the open button-up off his shoulders so he could take his arms out of the sleeves. You lifted the bottom of his gray t-shirt and threw it at him when he made another flirty joke.
Cleaning and bandaging the cuts went a lot faster, which was a relief because you were exhausted and Stiles must have been freezing. When the last of the bandages were on his back, you leaned in and wrapped your hands around him.
“Thank you for taking care of me,” you said softly. You pressed a kiss to his shoulder. “Let’s go home. Do you have a shirt in the Jeep that I can bring you?”
“What’s wrong with my other shirt?” Stiles asked.
“It’s torn and covered in blood,” you said as you pulled away.
Stiles shrugged and pushed himself off the table. “You just want to see me walk around shirtless for a while.”
“You know me well, Stilinski.” You took his hand in yours and lifted it to kiss him again. Stiles rolled his eyes but he pulled you closer anyway, only letting go so you could lock up the animal clinic and then to pull on a sweatshirt.
Exhausted and worn out from the night, you fell asleep almost immediately as Stiles drove home. You weren’t sure what it was about the Jeep that did that to you; maybe the familiarly worn seats or how Stiles pumped the heat all the way up, or maybe just the way Stiles would drum on the steering wheel and play his favorite song on repeat. He was one of the only people who you trusted, and the Jeep was one of the only places you still felt safe.

276. Sonic Universe #7
Mobius: 30 Years Later (Part 3 of 4): What's Old is New Again
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: Tracy Yardley! Colors: Jason Jensen
Sally is currently in the middle of dealing with two tired, confused children and an unconscious Silver, leading them through the lower levels of the castle to the panic room. The kids, of course, have no idea what's going on, and aren't taking things seriously, making her job somewhat more difficult. Meanwhile, Sonic, Lara-Su, Melody, and Skye show up at Argyle's door (whose name is misspelled "Argyll" throughout the issue, for some reason) looking for help. He and Lara-Su are pretty clearly in a relationship given how they act towards each other, but there's no time for lovey-dovey nonsense today. Unfortunately, most of the old Freedom Fighters and Chaotix are scattered all over the world and nowhere nearby, but at the very least, Argyle did have some foresight once he got the call from Lara-Su.
Well, who might that be? Meanwhile, Lien-Da and her Dark Presence guards are in the catacombs under the castle, with the just-freed Shadow. He's infuriated when she informs him of how much time has passed and how the people have wholeheartedly accepted Sonic as their king, and strides with purpose through the catacombs, bringing Lien-Da and a few guards along. Weirdly enough, he's able to unlock a secure door with the override phrase "Maria's Wish," which I suppose ties into a comment made last issue about how Sonic didn't let Knuckles completely overhaul the castle's security system after they took the castle from Shadow's regime. You left a lot of backdoors open for your enemies, Sonic! Shadow seems pleased at whatever it is that lies behind the door, while Lien-Da is abruptly terrified.
Back in Argyle's house, it turns out that the two people he called for help are Jacques and Belle D'Coolette, who are, of course, Bunnie and Antoine's kids! Interestingly, they both have one robotic arm and leg each, and this is never explained - of course there's no way Bunnie would have passed on being half-roboticized to her kids, and anyway, though she's never actually seen in this particular AU, the proto-Light Mobius shown in the Sonic In Your Face! special way back in the very first era of the comics depicted her as having been fully deroboticized at some point. That would have had to have happened as well in this timeline, I'd imagine, since otherwise there's really no way for her to have had children. Jacques and Belle also use a mixture of French and Southern slang, which is really endearing, honestly. But anyway, with Jacques and Belle on the scene, the group's numbers are up to seven, counting Sonic, Skye, Melody, Lara-Su, and Argyle, the last of whom plans to stay behind and feed them info.
Down in the catacombs, Shadow approaches a large spherical glass container, which is full of greenish goo that forms itself into the shape of Tikal. This being, whom he calls "Tikhaos," looks awful, murmuring about how horribly lonely and hungry she's been. As Shadow reassures her and promises to let her out and "feed" her, Lien-Da begs him to reconsider, obviously terrified of Tikhaos.
*sigh* I know, I know I've already gone over a million times why I hate King Shadow and I think his characterization here is an insult to the entire character of Shadow the Hedgehog, but this is just yet another example of why it's so bad. Lien-Da was loyal for five years without him, risked everything to bring him back, and all she wants in return is to be able to be with her son again, and Shadow outright kills her by erasing her from the timeline just because she dares to question one decision he makes. It's what you'd expect from someone like Eggman, not Shadow.
Ugh. Anyway, Sonic, Belle, and Jacques charge the front gate of the castle to create a distraction, while Lara-Su, Melody, and Skye go in a hidden back window unnoticed. Skye is still getting used to flying, resulting in him becoming pretty dizzy on the way up. However, this quickly proves itself to be a secret asset, as they approach the security room full of Dark Eyes and figure out how to take them out.
That… works, I suppose! Sonic's team is saved from having to break down the front door by Melody who lets them in, and Sonic questions Argyle about Sally, to which he replies that he can confirm she made it to the panic room with the others and is working on actually contacting her. He's then distracted by something else he's picking up from within the Dark Presence's communications, and tells them they should head down to the catacombs as something crazy seems to be going on down there. Sonic, still wanting to get to his family first, asks Lara-Su if she can see what's happening down there.
Like father, like daughter! Argyle finally manages to patch Sonic through to his wife, and Sally confirms that they're fine, that Silver is beginning to wake up, and that most importantly, they have a few monitors within the room that they've been able to watch the proceedings on. Their kids are excited at all the action, but Sonic is more concerned with asking Sally what exactly is being kept down in the catacombs that's so dangerous. She lists off a few noodle implements that suggest some truly crazy shenanigans from earlier in the timeline, but of course, we know what Shadow is actually after…
Shadow begins to blast Chaos energy into Tikhaos, who begins screaming that it's too much and she's losing control, and the Dark Presence guards panic and leave, yelling about how they "didn't sign up for this" and they have to evacuate the island. Sonic and his new band of Freedom Fighters get ready for a big fight as they make their way into the catacombs, but…
Anyone who's studied history knows that it likes to repeat itself, and so, as we've seen once before with Perfect Chaos itself, the castle begins to crumble under the stress of a massive rush of water that begins to flood the entire city of Portal. Sonic and his team escape the castle safely, and from the relative safety of a nearby bit of rubble, they watch as "Perfect Tikhaos," which really just looks exactly like Perfect Chaos except green and with echidna dreads (it looks cooler than it sounds, I promise), begins to tear the city apart…

Tuesday Day 19 (25 February) Farewell to Antarctica!
It was a really big day!
We woke to a sea of glass, about as smooth as any patch of sea I have ever seen. It was punctuated by thousands of small bergie-bits and growlers (those who read my previous blog might recall the definition of icebergs, bergie-bits and growlers) but with not a ripple anywhere ahead of our bow wave. You could not imagine a starker contrast with the seas we have experienced in the past few days. And the temperature didn’t have minus in front of it for the first time in over a week – it was 0.0 degrees, but it was back at minus 5 within a matter of an hour or so. It actually reached (+)2.1 degrees a little later in the day, but that didn’t last long either.
It puzzles me how the simple absence of wind for a few hours can utterly erase 8 metre swells. After some of the wild weather we have had, it was quite extraordinary. Unfortunately, it was destined to be a short-lived respite.
We had company for a short period around breakfast time when another very similar-sized ship cruised past heading further west, but it was out of sight within half an hour or so. I had seen a light on the horizon when I attended the call of nature around 3am and it was definitely not a bird or a plane and no way Superman would be flying around down here in his skimpy little togs. I was pretty sure it wasn’t coming from a bushfire or the lights of a settlement so a light on a ship was really the only possible source. It passed us on the starboard side as we headed east so for 10 or 15 minutes, we were not the southernmost ship on the planet. We promptly resumed that unique status for several more hours, but by late afternoon, we had moved far enough north to be unsure if there were other more southerly ships somewhere else around the great white continent.
The Expedition team went out in a zodiac to see if there was a place to land and radioed back that there was only one place and that it would be a difficult wet landing for those that wanted to visit Borchgrevink’s Hut and the dilapidated ruin of yet another Scott Hut – both of which were right in the middle of a huge Adelie colony.
Cape Adare was redolent (really very, very redolent) with a decades’, centuries’ or millennia accumulation of penguin poo! It really was awful, pervading the whole ship, and it made me feel quite sick so we had no burning desire to experience it close up, but quite a few other hardy souls decided that they wanted to and got rigged up ready to go. Unfortunately, less than half of them actually got ashore. (Not sure if the other ship had had a permit to land, but they long since decided that the ice conditions made it too risky for them anyway.)
Our team had found a very small gap in the ice and managed to land two zodiacs in extreme conditions but within a matter of a couple of minutes, before anyone from the second zodiac could even get to the Hut, the tide had turned, creating a lot of dangerous surf and moving an iceberg that threatened to prevent their evacuation. There was an urgent recall to the ship and our dare-devil Russian zodiac driver and bosun, Yury (spelt Yuri in only one place I saw), raced in to try to rescue them.
If they thought the landing was difficult, the return was far worse with ice moving into the landing area and waves surging and crashing all along the cape and the zodiac being very difficult to manoeuvre into a position where the intrepid/insane tourists could wade out and dive headfirst into the craft. The zodiac had to reverse into a crack between big ice-blocks because there was no room to turn around. Timing was crucial so as soon as one wave passed, the zodiac went in and as many as possible (3 or 4 only) leapt aboard and the zodiac shot out again before the next wave sank them all.
The first attempt was disastrous when Yury and his zodiac were comprehensively swamped by a big wave and he had to limp back to the ship very gingerly where they winched his craft aboard to drain it and make some repairs - and despatched him on rescue attempt number two in a different zodiac. He had to time each attempt carefully and as many as could had to leap aboard and hang on for grim death (potentially literally) as he gunned it away again before the next wave hit. All the time, three of the staff were chest/neck-deep in the freezing surf, trying to steady the zodiac as people waded out and leapt hopefully for safety. It took five trips to get the 19 intrepid explorers and staff back on board, cold, wet and miserable, and the whole mission was aborted.
Yury is a complete cowboy and some people, including us, prefer to ride in someone else’s zodiac. The very first time we went in his zodiac, he rode high on a wave and crashed down the other side, badly shaking us all up and hurting a few backs. I think he was cautioned over that ands ferried us around a little more circumspectly on other occasions, but when he was just killing time waiting for a full complement to be ready, he would gun his craft to the max and fly into a wave so the zodiac literally sailed way above the sea for several metres before slamming back to the surface. Or he would surf along a wave and flip over the crest so the zodiac almost flipped over too. And landings..... One time he just gunned it at a kelp bed and put the whole craft up on the rocks, then spread himself out on the bow and posed for photos. He should have been a jockey. He is quite tiny, inches shorter than li’l ole me, but he certainly earned his pay that day.
Quite a few other people had been togged up in their landing gear and were disappointed that the operation had been called off but when they saw the conditions, I suspect their disappointment became heavily discounted. To compensate for the inability to land, the crew took anyone who wanted on a zodiac cruise along the rookery area and quite a few went and saw some elephant seals on the beach. We saw a couple too from the ship – but they just looked like big balloons of blubber – and we have had as good a view of them a couple of times before. We stayed firmly on a now-shaky ship! What did I say about a glassine sea less than two hours ago? It is astounding how quickly wind, weather and ice conditions change down here.
Before leaving Antarctica, they offered everyone a chance to do the Polar Plunge. Eleven people did it, but we chose not to. We had intended doing it, but it was sprung on us on very short notice so we hadn’t psyched ourselves up to it - and the doctor had told me I shouldn’t do it anyway. We had already done it in the northern hemisphere so it was less important for us to become bipolar!
It was with some regret that we sailed north and watched Antarctica sink slowly into the sea to our stern, but we could still see the mountain at Cape Adare for the next couple of hours. Our Antarctic adventure had taken us to latitude 78 degrees 44 minutes south and to within 1353 kilometres of the South Pole. It is actually not possible to get further south by ship - anyone wanting to get closer to the Pole needs to fly or walk. No planes were available on the day and I certainly wasn’t interested in walking given the weather! As a point of comparison, we got to 83 degrees north on our Svalbard expedition last year and were then only 600 km from the North Pole.
We had seen only a tiny part of Antarctica but we certainly experienced something very special that so few other people have had the chance to do. It was very different from what we had expected, but I will probably expand a little on that at the end of the trip. And we will be back, even if not to the Ross Sea. We are booked to visit the Peninsula and surrounds over Christmas/New Year 2021/22 and that promises to be quite a different Antarctic experience.
Another dose of wild weather hit very soon after leaving the Cape and it remained very wild for quite a few hours - back to the stereotypical extreme Antarctic maelstrom much as I described the first time we approached Inexpressible Island. At the height of it, we were battling winds of 60 knots and the scene reverted to my perfect image of the rawness of Antarctica.

On Memory Loss and Amnesia
On Memory Loss and Amnesia.
Between three and five years ago I experienced an accident that caused me to forget my own name, where I was or who I was. The only thing I remembered for around six hours was my girlfriend and her name, and by the time I was seen in the emergency department I had recovered and had no physical symptoms and no psychological symptoms that a doctor who had never met me before could discern.
My unhappy girlfriend and I took a taxi back to where we had been staying at around four or five in the morning after being discharged as healthy. The taxi driver had no idea where we were going and extremely poor English, leading to my angrily stopping the car in response to my girlfriend’s increasing panic and stepping out into a random village in the English midlands. Eventually with police help we managed to get back to where we were meant to be, but looking back on it now my actions in the taxi were utterly out of character for me.
Before the accident I was a timid, unfit, socially needy boy of 18 who was missing teeth from being beaten half to death whilst throwing no punches back. Following the accident I managed to physically stop a car and sort out a situation that I would never have got through in my previous mindset. I’m unsure whether this view is a product of my being largely unable to remember my mindset before the accident, but I maintain that a drastic personality change occurred with the head injury. Shortly later my relationship of around 2 years broke down aggressively and I had to evacuate myself from possibly the hairiest situation I had ever been in. I know this because it is integral to my character. What I remember from that time is a flash of trying to get my laptop to work, downloading channel 4 programs and podcasts with my neighbour’s internet, a cigarette burn, and the first time we both were sure when we said we didn’t love eachother anymore.
Most people would say that this is fairly normal, but they misunderstand. I cannot remember anything else from that time. I remember feeling unhappy and scared and worthless but I remember no events or emotions or specifics beyond those overarching themes – which may even be products of my own rationalisations.
Last week I had probably one of the greatest nights of my life with my brothers in manchester bars. Sure I drank a lot, but I remember so little that if someone told me it didn’t happen I’d assume it was a dream.
When I speak to my current girlfriend about past events, I’d say around 90% of the time she will listen patiently before informing me that it may be the tenth time I’ve told her and maybe the third time today.
I will say ‘I love you’ or ask her how she is eight times and never remember doing it.
And yet I doubt that I have memory loss. I don’t remember doing all these things so many times and so each time I’m recommended to get it checked out I get halfway before thinking ‘no, it’s just a dramatisation of an injury that was integral to my life, I’m being dramatic to make myself more interesting.’ And so I have never been checked out. The original hospital event doesn’t show up on my medical records and I have no physical evidence of the event except a plastic winner’s token which I keep in my wallet to this day as a reminder.
In 50 first dates or shutter island or the hundreds of other films depicting amnesia we see the amnesiac perpetually confused and scared about their situation, or blissfully unaware for the majority of the plot. I do not have this luxury and nor would I want it. I am often confused and I am often scared by my condition but the vague pointers I have around me (tokens, scribbles, social cues) help me recover myself to the point where most people have no idea I have a problem at all.
Last week I saw someone I’ve met more than five times in incredibly memorable experiences, and I had no idea who he was. It hurt him though he didn’t admit it and I felt terrible despite laughing it off. I apologised, explained I had amnesia – to which he said that I had told him before – and promptly left. When I saw him the next day he pretended not to know me, and so to save both our dignities I played along and it became far easier on both of us. I often wonder how many good friends I have forgotten who play along with my issues because it’s easier than explaining. I have even in the past had days or weeks spent under the impression that my partner was actually a live-in care worker or similar issues.
To dispel this I attempt to stick to rituals that I remember I have. I have photos of myself and my old dog, my friends, things I have done, and I have tokens from people that help me stay present. I have a carved totem, a dreadlock, a ring, a carved piece of antler, a leather band, a shaped piece of aluminium, a tag I stole from work, a key to something I can’t remember. These little tokens somehow keep my sense of self present, each of them mean something even if I can’t remember where they came from or why I have them. With this technique I stave off loss of self.
My fears of the future are in two halves equally possible. The first fear is that I shall be revealed for a fraud and that I am actually just a daydreaming loser who doesn’t care enough to remember people’s names. I will be shamed in myself as I see myself for what I am and my self understanding will be complete in line with my paranoia. The second fear is that my mind will continue to deteriorate, I will forget the names of my family and the pillars of my personality and eventually will descend into the formless nothing that I am caught in when I have a panic attack and lose my self. Of course it is possible that I shall merely continue as I am ad infinitum and nothing will change worth noting that I remember, but that is not nearly as interesting.
Whilst at a bar with friends several years ago I am told that whilst discussing sexual assault and the pervasive nature of unfriendly sexual experiences in my friends, I broke down, forgot who I am and who my friends were, and firmly believed it was 2014 and I was lost in Plymouth. Of course this was all false and after a short time I recovered myself, which I now have a good memory of the cold night and coming around with tears on my face. The episode itself I only know from my friends’ descriptions and is an object of both shame and curiosity, as clearly it indicates some link between memory issues and stress which I am not educated enough to understand.
I avoid doctors because if they cannot find evidence then it means that I am somehow faking this even to myself. Whether they are correct or not will not help me and will soon become vague impressions in the back of my mind regardless.
In Plato’s allegory of the cave we see the shadows of the objects cast on the wall, which I can equate to most people’s memory of events; vague but clear in their impression. I like to think of my memory as if those shadows were cast on a waterfall; ever shifting and unclear, but with sustained viewing perhaps details can be made out well enough to remember things worth remembering with help. Until then I am afloat in a black sea, windless and with no port to seek, merely picking up flotsam as it floats near.
I do not write this seeking pity or discussion or even understanding. I write this hopefully so that in future I can look at it and confirm whether I am maintaining the same mental clarity on the subject or if something has changed. I will publish it freely so that those curious enough to look can understand why I forget their face or why I don’t know what I’m doing a lot of the time. Anyone with knowledge on the subject or comparable experience is welcome to send me messages so that we can both gain from the interaction.
I rewrote the same paragraph three times at one point in drafting this.
Much love

it's been another long while, but not as long. solar's worn out and has been sick for the past few days. we took some cover in the abandoned school nearby(the same one where we almost broke the stair railing by falling off). she's getting better and should hopefully be up and running again tomorrow. but for now, we're just resting. that's where i've been for the past few days.
today wasn't that busy so i might as well tell you the story of how this came to be. (fires were their cover-ups for getting everyone to evacuate) a short while after BLi took over LA(?), they came over to the east coast to new york city(and philly too, hei guess since it was where history was made and shi+), did the normal(?) pills, hypnosis, and all that jazz. they managed to get most people from the outer areas of nearby states, (new jersey, maryland, delaware, new york, conneticuit, rhode island, massachusetts). so now we have some of maryland and deleware(and a wee bit of new jersey) in philly(extending nearing |like half way to| trenton). then we have rhode island, conneticuit, and massachusetts in the new york city area extending into stamford and newark. so there’s the geography. zones, we’ve got central new jersey and pennsylvania(but there aren’t many killjoys in pennsylvania, except for the ones near philly). there’s geography. (extended) new york city is now called “new battery city” (wow how original and so creative). philly’s now known as cloud city.
solar and i used to live in queens, but we headed out after we noticed the funky behaviour. we’re currently in edison, which would be around a zone two/zone three(for you west coasters) based on the new york city area. zone 5/6 if you wanna base it off the philly, then zone 4/5/6ish. i’m not really sure that we have official zones, but i’m just guessing.
signing off for now - absinthe tears

Puerto Rico from somebody on the ground, UPDATES
I've had many people in the US ask me how they can help, and I'll be honest that I haven't had the time to sit down and properly think about it (doesn't help that I have access to information on the internet for approx 15 minutes every day), but now I'm going to throw this out there. It's going to be long. Firstly, you need to understand the situation. Our infrastructure is destroyed. We have no power, in fact, the 4% of San Juan that managed to get electricity back lost it again. Last I read only 45% of the island had clean water services. This isn't just a lack of food and water. In case you hadn't heard, we're also approximately $72 billion in debt, and this hurricane is estimated to have cost over $30 billion in damages. You can send all the food and bottled water you want, and by all means please continue to do so because we are short on those, but there's also a huge distribution problem. Many supermarkets have not been able to open again because of structural damage. People are making lines for hours to be able to get into the few that are operational again. Gas stations? 80% were supposed to open again by Tuesday, September 26, yet people are still making literally 8+ hour lines (this is not an exaggeration) in the HOPES that they will be allowed to get some fuel. Many banks are only dispensing cash, which is vital because the vast majority of establishments can only accept cash at the moment, and the lines for the atms also can take hours. People have 5am to 7pm to be able to do all these things in one day because of curfew. Some hospitals are running out of diesel already, meaning that their back up generators are shutting down, so all those patients are being transferred to government hospitals that were already understaffed and understocked BEFORE Maria. To recap, in San Juan, where conditions are better, people are wholly dependent on cash to buy basic necessities, people have no power, in many cases no water, no communication with the outside world or the rest of Puerto Rico, no gasoline to get around, barely any places to get food, and entire hospitals are being evacuated. Literal boatloads of supplies are sitting in ports because the government can't distribute them, and some ships are just sitting there with their cargo. It's much worse outside of San Juan. Entire towns have no working gas stations, no hospitals, no running water, and no operational supermarkets (on top of no power or communication). Maria destroyed the vast majority of our crops. Many of these towns were also hit the hardest by the hurricane and saw thousands of families completely lose their homes. Now back to the distribution problem: you can send tons of food and articles of basic necessity, but if the government is having a hard time distributing them in the metropolitan area, it's literally downright impossible to get them to some of these towns. But what about the aid that has already been sent? Not enough. We need more resources, personnel, money, everything. Many of the rescue personnel and federal authorities already here came weeks ago because of Irma's devastation in other Caribbean islands and can't focus entirely on the disaster in Puerto Rico. Like I said earlier, distribution and mobilization is one of the key problems. I go around San Juan and don't see any of the people that came to help. Entire towns elsewhere in the island have not seen a single paramedic, soldier, or FEMA worker. The only places I've seen them are in the hotels they're staying at, so there's clearly a massive problem with mobilization. American politicians? I've seen some pay lip service to the plight of Puerto Rico, but not a single package or proposal. Local officials had to beg Congress to notice what was happening. President Trump was kind enough to give $1 million of his vast fortune to efforts in Houston (notice the sarcasm), yet he hasn't offered a single penny to efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico. He thought that criticizing NFL players exercising their right of free speech was more important.
OCTOBER 6TH UPDATE
I’ve been struggling with this update for a while because it’s almost been a week since the last and, well, a lot has both happened and not happened.
So Trump’s visit. It was what we were all expecting, despite the tiny flicker of hope that he would suddenly see the light and mobilize to help us. Trump held a press conference that didn’t allow any local reporters to ask questions, just the approved group that had travelled with him, because in true facist fashion Trump wanted to control the narrative and not face any hard hitting questions. He was taken to a wealthy area, where he visited one family and then was taken to a wealthy church for some basket paper towel games. He minimized our suffering and devastation by saying this wasn’t a disaster like Katrina (nevermind that the 3 Star General in the island has already compared the situation to Katrina and says this is worse than anything he has ever seen), praised the federal response, took a picture with a bunch of sell out local politicians, and then boarded his plane one hour before schedule to take off.
Trump came almost two weeks after Maria destroyed us. He was scheduled to be here for 5 hours and spent 4. Of those four hours, he spent 17 minutes talking to local officials about what we needed and the status of the situation. 17 minutes. He also just made fun of us in a press conference by imitating the Puerto Rican accent on camera and then outright laughing, but hey, he already told the island to go fuck itself and get over ourselves ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This piece explains how FEMA is already trying to bury updates about Puerto Rico and make people think they/Trump are doing a spectacular job
Moving on……
Things where I’m staying are getting better. My brother’s apartment has electricity again because he lives next to many hotels currently housing feds as well as the airport. The supermarket next door is open and has mostly non-perishable foods, lines to get in are about 1 to 1.5 hours. There’s also a few fast food joints open nearby. Overall, things are pretty good where I live, but at this point that means having water + electricity and access to some food. That’s what’s considered the good life right now in Puerto Rico, and it’s a luxury available to less than 10% of the island, two and a half weeks after the hurricane. Do NOT let the media fool you. Whatever pictures and videos you see of people going back to their normal lives is extremely misleading and likely taken in wealthy areas of San Juan. We’re still going through a humanitarian crisis, and millions are still in dire circumstances that have not changed since the hurricane hit.
The federal response continues to be underwhelming. They’ve been air dropping aid to cut off towns, but the pictures I’ve seen of this aid are often zip lock bags with one pack of cookies, one can of sausages, one Mots and a granola bar. These are the so called “care packages.”
I was watching a local news show and they interviewed the woman in charge of the reserves in the island (90% of which are Puerto Ricans that were already here btw). She outright admitted that the federal response has been slow and they’re not satisfied with what they’ve been doing, but that they’re working to do better. The show was Jay Fonseca’s October 5th 10pm program, in case anybody wants to hunt down the clip. I believe her, but I don’t have much faith in her superiors acting quickly.
Statistics time:
- That death toll of 16 people is utter garbage. The same day that Trump went on about our measly 16 people death toll, the official number was updated to 34. A few days after we finally got information from towns in the western side of the island and they reported at least 200 deaths just in that zone. Many hospitals are still processing their numbers, and people continue to bury loved ones in backyards.
- About 90% of the island is still without power, those with electricity are for the most part in the wealthier pockets of the metropolitan area. Even those areas still suffer from power outages that can last up to days at a time.
- About half the island still without water.
- Most of the hospitals are running, but many depend on generators that run on diesel and we still have a diesel crisis. Some are barely functional, as in doctors are performing surgeries with iPhone flashlights.
- The big international airport is running 24 hours now and there’s less hysteria, but people are being told to get there four hours early and many still get their flights cancelled at the last minute. Some airlines are capping their prices at low prices under $100, but I don’t think that’s going to last for much longer. Cruise ships have started charging again to get people out.
- As of October 3rd FEMA had yet to authorize full disaster help, which Texas got 10 days after Harvey
Fundraisers to donate to:
ComPRometidos - In my opinion the best big fundraiser to donate to, they’re doing a lot of work to also rebuild infrastructure and help long term recovery
Jane Stern Dorado Community - Helps a local library in Dorado that is also acting as a relief center, this fund is run by a friend of mine I trust immensely.
CMU Student’s Humanitarian Mission - Also run by somebody I know and trust, she’s using connections to charter a private jet that takes supplies to the island and brings back elderly/people in need of hospital care to the states.
General Reminders:
- Please, PLEASE call your Congresspeople, ask for the Jones Act to be removed, ask for debt relief so that we don’t have to prioritize paying back Wall Street, FOR GOD’S SAKE SEND MORE HELP TO REBUILD OUR INFRASTRUCTURE ASAP
- Petition to remove Jones Act

Mora/Bean is Canon
(but I’m not sure about Endgame)
A very (very) long, unnecessary post. I’d like to start this off by saying bisexuality is consistently erased in the tumblr community, but this isn’t about if bean is bi or a lesbian because it literally does not matter
*ahem* Also, spoilers if you haven’t watched season 3 because, i don’t know, you probably have a life
anyway, there’s lots of speculation on whether or not Bean’s romance with Mora was a dream or not, and I’m here to give you the (probably) definitive answer (and throw a wild guess at the next season).
To begin with, Disenchantment is no stranger to foreshadowing. In fact, rewatching the show a few times you notice that the writers practically laid everything out in front of us the entire time. It’s actually admirable from a writer’s perspective, imo, but I’m not here to cream my pants over the writers. An example of their consistent foreshadowing would begin in the very first episode, when a blimp is seen in the far background of one of the scenes over some mountains. This would later be explained by the introduction of Steamland, which became a pinnacle location to the plot in seasons 2 and 3. There are plenty more examples, but I’d rather save it for the ones I’ve found in season 3. (And, one could argue, Bean asking a hot mermaid to nibble her earlobes was foreshadowing her later romance with one, but, hey, who am i to over-speculate)
Now, for the juicy stuff, as well as some artistic appreciation. Was anyone else absolutely in love with the ocean scenery? Like, somebody popped the fuck off in the background department bc hot damn. Don’t worry, I promise, this is extremely relevant.
(excuse the thing in the top left) This is the sky a few hours after they’d left Steamland, meaning it’s early morning / sunrise. Holy shit, I nearly cried when I saw this scene. This is goddamn beautiful. The clouds? The blending? The bright coloration? Who the fuck did this??? How do I give them money??
Sorry for the lack of a consistent timeline, but I didn’t get a good shot of the sky in the same day afternoon shot, so, here’s the afternoon sky before Bean and Elfo crash.
And this delightful pink son of a bitch is the sunset, into which our ladies rode with my heart soaring. At this point, I had to pause to search ‘disenchantment’ on tumblr to see if it was gay and sure enough the top image was mora and bean kissing. i love this hellhole.
Now, why the hell are skies relevant, my friends? Well (I’m starting to realize this is another fucking dumb sky post like that one that’s 10 years long but this is worse because I’m losing my mental sanity to prove half an episode in a 3 season cartoon actually happened)
This would be when the ‘dream’ starts, which is after Bean hits her head, and presumably, late afternoon. Swimming with your mermaid girlfriend underwater all the way to Mermaid Island probably takes some time, so they get there by, say, sunset maybe?
yes, i use subtitles, i do not have a good attention span. So, yeah, maybe sunset-ish, or like, really late afternoon.
and, of course, our wildest sapphic fantasies come true. again, excuse the subtitles.
Here’s the juicy juicy shit that real good-good. Please stay with me.
The lyrics to Mora’s song:
They say that you’re a drowner
And we’re parted by the sea
But I can keep you floating
If you just hold on to me
I’ll keep you safe, I’m on your team
And when it feels like just a dream
Believe it’s true
Because I do
And someday if there’s a war
On some not-so-distant shore
And lines are drawn
I’m never gone
This star’s your guide
And I am always on your side
Well, well, well, how the dots have connected and my gay brain is spiraling. Not only am I swooning, but I’m also itching with theories. Lots of ‘em. I’m about to give MatPat a run for his money.
First, I wanna get out there that if you tell me Bean’s subconscious could have written that song, you are incorrect. Bean is a lot of things, but... creative isn’t exactly one of them. There’s an entire episode dedicated to how bad she as at writing creatively (unless it’s about her familial issues): season 2, episode 8: In Her Own Write.
So, ‘when it feels like just a dream / believe it’s true’ sounds a whole lot like we’re being told something. Or, Bean is, but she’s not great at picking up hints. Another fact we are shown again and again and again.
‘Someday if there’s a war / On some not-so-distant shore’ I mean, this shouldn’t be so hard to point out. Kinda seems like Dreamland is in a bit of a tizzy right now, huh? I mean, what with the Elves learning that the Trøgs are direct descendants of their forgotten ancestors that adapted to living underground overtime and- oh- wait- did that not get revealed yet?
Well, let me do you a think by referencing Skyrim because that’s the easiest example I can think of. There are these ugly bitches that ruin my entire day every time I encounter them called the Falmer that dwell underground that were once Snow Elves, but had adapted to living underground after, you guessed it, the arrival of... goddamn nords/humans (a few centuries after, but still). Large eyes with poor vision, bigger ears to make up for that lack of vision, and a more grey skin pallor from, y’know, living underground. I won’t give you a lecture on evolution, because this is already super duper long. Kinda wild that Disenchanted would take a commonly used Fantasy trope like creatures colonized by humans adapting to life underground, it’s almost like the whole show is to poke fun of overdone fantasy tropes.
And, of course, it’s revealed that the Lost Kingdom of the Elves is underneath Dreamland, directly where the Trøgs dwell. It doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots. Elves have hidden themselves in this world - remember, Elfo was the first elf since Leavo to leave Elfwood in years. So let me spin you a yarn about a well-known tale called Colonization. I’m sure we all know where this is going. Clearly, not all of the elves stayed underneath Dreamland. Judging by how many Trøgs there are in relation to how many elves, I assume less than or around half of the elf population managed to evacuate Dreamland while those who remained took to living in the shadows. We’ve seen the conditions of their underworld, and, well, one can assume they went a bit nutty along the way. I’m sure the mushroom spores didn’t help.
Then, there’s the prophecy. Bean, Elfo and Luci are the saviors of the Trøgs.
‘Lines are drawn’ - after Bean is crowned Queen Bean (lol) she and Elfo drift apart. He obviously feels abandoned by her, and even if he did sacrifice himself for Dreamland, I’m certain he won’t be killed. I’m on that wonderful conspiracy train that the Ogre Queen is his mother, but that’s another story for another day though it’s somewhat related. Needless to say, if the Elves declare war on Dreamland, lines will certainly be drawn. And, I recall my statement above: Bean, Elfo and Luci are the saviors of the Trøgs. I’d count it as ‘saving’ them if they reunite with their cousins, the Elves, and take back the kingdom that once belonged to them; wouldn’t you?
‘I’m never gone / This star’s your guide / And I am always on your side’ This is a callback to a few things in this episode. Mora tells Bean that the heart of the Big Flipper leads to Mermaid Island, as Bean recalls when she is given the necklace Mora made for her. So, that’s another double nudge-nudge wink-wink from the writers (a joke they also made consistently this season, making me feel aggressively mocked. so i have powerpoints on this show, now, and nothing to do with them.)
Anyway, if the Elves and Trøgs do succeed in taking over Dreamland, Mora has explicitly stated that Bean has an ally in her - and, of course, the mermaids. So, looking too deeply into a song written by a fictional mermaid for her equally fictional girlfriend aside, let’s move on to more obvious evidence.
Bean then wakes up on the beach to Elfo saying nobody wanted to help them, , yadda yadda, it was clearly a dream, right?
(yes, I wanted to get the caption that made me cry. now you have to be sad, too.) except, wait a second, that’s a goddamn morning sky. And, beyond that, the very next episode which continues off from Bean and Elfo walking back to Dreamland, it’s also morning and leads right into the rest of the same day. well, shit me a brick. chronologically, it makes sense for this to have not been a dream.
and, naturally, the nail in the coffin. There it is, the necklace, right there in front of our fat faces. I’m sure you’re wondering how Bean can sleep through swimming underwater for presumably hours, but, hey, tHAT’S JUST A TH-
In conclusion, the Disenchantment writers make it a point to give us not-so-subtle hints (mostly in the background) towards future plots. This seemingly innocuous, what, ten minutes of a sapphic fantasy come true could be an incredibly important plot point. It’s not the first time they’ve used a small storyline to pull the strings together for a far bigger one - they literally do it every season, multiple times. My evidence towards Mora and Bean having a real romance stems from the design of the sky backgrounds that clearly show the passage of time throughout the episode (and show), as well as the fact that Mora’s necklace washes up on shore not long after Bean wakes up. Along with this presented evidence, I believe the Elves are going to try and overthrow Dreamland (just like, basically, every other kingdom or secret society in this show) and Bean will have to figure out for herself if Mora really is waiting for her on Mermaid Island. As for what else Season 4 has in store, I have lots of other theories but for the 4 people who read this, I shall not disclose.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk, and I am so very sorry.
