INKTOBER 2023 DAY 31: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
Here they all are! I didn't share it everyday but I actually did every piece of this Inktober on one canvas. I think it helped me reach the goal of actually finishing them lol
I had some good and bad days this month but all in all, I'm very proud of what I drew this month. I don't normally do art daily challenges so, this is a win for me.
Anyways Happy Halloween and thanks for seeing me draw 31 days in a row. I'm gonna go eat candy and not draw ever again now.

Anne Boleyn (c. 1501 or 1507 – 19 May 1536), King Henry VIII's second queen, is often portrayed as a seductress and ultimately the woman responsible for changing the face of religion in England.
In reality, she was a fiercely intelligent and pious woman dedicated to education and religious reform.
But after her arrest and execution on false charges of adultery and incest in May 1536, Henry VIII was determined to forget her memory.
Her royal emblems were removed from palace walls, her sparkling jewels tucked away in dark coffers, and her precious books disappeared from the pages of time.
One of Boleyn’s books that has reappeared is the Book of Hours, a stunning prayer book, printed around 1527 with devotional texts designed to be read throughout the day, features hand-painted woodcuts — as well as a rare example of the queen’s own writing.
In the margins of one of the beautifully decorated pages, she penned a rhyming couplet followed by her signature:
“Remember me when you do pray, that hope doth lead from day to day, Anne Boleyn.”
Tumblr media
The book vanished with Boleyn’s execution in 1536, then resurfaced around 1903 when it was acquired by the American millionaire William Waldorf Astor (31 March 1848 – 18 October 1919) after he purchased Hever Castle, Anne Boleyn’s childhood home in the English countryside.
The hiding place of the disgraced queen’s devotional tome had been a mystery for centuries, until recent research by a university student uncovered hidden signatures that helped trace its path through history.
The discovery
The book’s whereabouts in the 367 years between Boleyn’s death and its reemergence remained puzzling until 2020 when Kate McCaffrey, then a graduate student at the University of Kent working on her master’s thesis about Anne Boleyn’s Book of Hours, found something unexpected in the margins of the book.
“I noticed what appeared to be smudges to the naked eye,” recalls McCaffrey, assistant curator at Hever Castle since 2021.
Intrigued, she borrowed an industrial-strength ultraviolet light and set it up in the darkest room of Hever Castle.
Ultraviolet light is often used to examine historical documents because ink absorbs the ultraviolet wavelength, causing it to appear darker against the page when exposed.
“The words just came through. It was incredible to see them underneath the light, they were completely illuminated,” the curator recalls.
McCaffrey’s theory is that the words were erased during the late Victorian era when it was popular to cleanse marginalia from books or manuscripts.
But thanks to her extraordinary detective work, these erased words turned out to be the key that unlocked the tale of the book’s secret journey from certain destruction at the royal court to safety in the hands of a dedicated group of Boleyn’s supporters.
The guardians
Indeed, various pages throughout the text reveal the names and notations of a string of Kentish women — Elizabeth Hill, Elizabeth Shirley, Mary Cheke, Philippa Gage, and Mary West — who banded together to safeguard Anne's precious book and keep her memory alive.
While it’s unclear how the book was initially passed to these women, Anne Boleyn expert Natalie Grueninger suggests it was gifted by Anne to a woman named Elizabeth Hill.
Elizabeth grew up near Hever Castle, and her husband, Richard Hill, was sergeant of the King’s Cellar at Henry VIII’s court.
There are records of the Hill’s playing cards with the king, and there may have been a friendship between Elizabeth and the queen that prompted Boleyn to pass her prayer book on before her execution.
“This extended Kentish family kept the book safe following Anne’s demise, which was an incredibly brave and bold act considering it could have been considered treasonous,” says Grueninger, podcaster and author of the book The Final Year of Anne Boleyn.
Anne’s Book of Hours was passed between mothers, daughters, sisters, and nieces until the late sixteenth century, when the last name makes its appearance in its margins.
“This story is an example of the women in the family prioritizing loyalty, friendship, fidelity, and a personal connection to Anne,” says McCaffrey.
“The fact that the women have kept it safe is a really beautiful story of solidarity, community, and bravery.”
The book, currently on display at Hever Castle, is a touchstone of the enigma that was Anne Boleyn.
Castle historian and assistant curator Owen Emmerson points out that the book contains Anne’s DNA on the pages from where she touched and kissed it during her daily devotions.
“This was a really beloved possession of hers,” says Emmerson.
“Because of what happened to Anne Boleyn, we don’t have a vast amount of information in Anne’s own words. But the physical remnants of her use of the book, and the construction of that beautiful little couplet, have her identity in them.”
While Anne’s Book of Hours has finally found its way home, the research into this intriguing historical mystery is not yet over.
McCaffrey continues to chart the book’s provenance through the centuries to find out where it was hiding all this time.
The discovery of the inscriptions illuminates the book’s furtive journey, providing us with a glimpse into the controversy, loyalty, and fascination that Anne Boleyn has engendered for the past 500 years.

Micro Comic Summer - A Summary
August 2023
Last year in 2022, Hiveworks introduced the art challenge Micro Comic Summer as a tag on Twitter. Creators took to the challenge and produced four page comics that were shared on the final day of August. This year, we’re encouraging more creators to participate in the challenge. Want to know how? Read on.
Tumblr media
Micro Comic Summer is one of many online art challenges that bring creators together to complete a project and share their work with their community. Other well known examples of art challenges include Hourly Comic Day, where artists draw a comic panel for every hour of their day on February 1, and Inktober, a 31 day challenge in the month of October to ink a new illustration every day. While these challenges have artists flexing their endurance and speed, Micro Comic Summer takes a different approach: slow, experimental, sustainable creation.
Very frequently, comic artists face unsustainable working conditions, as many are the sole creator behind projects that require multiple skill sets (such as writing, penciling, inking, flatting, lettering, and so on), often on top of day jobs.
The rules of Micro Comic Summer take into consideration the working conditions of comic creators, particularly in fast paced environments like social media, and attempts to buck the norm.
The rules of Micro Comic Summer are as follows:
Rule 1- Tell a story in four pages. This rule is possibly the most challenging aspect: to be succinct and efficient with your page count. Some creators have used this challenge as an opportunity to redraw old webcomic pages or introduce new readers to their pre-existing characters and story. What story you tell is completely up to you, but the four page maximum is in place to prevent overexertion.
Rule 2 - You have all summer (or winter, for the southern hemisphere) to do it. From June to the end of August, take your time to perfect your paneling, edit your story, and choose your palette thoughtfully. There is no need to make snap decisions or cut corners for this challenge. The timeframe is meant to encourage exploration and growth.
Rule 3 - Share it online. Use the tag #MicroComicSummer to share your work with others on August 31. Contribute to the conversation around comic artist working conditions.
Tumblr media
While Hiveworks introduced Micro Comic Summer, anyone is free to participate. Participation in the tag does not mean you’re submitting your work to us, nor does it mean we own it. It’s just a hashtag, for fun :)
We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

It's October! Hooray! That means it's time for Drawtober, the happy occasion where artists everywhere challenge themselves to draw every day according to a specific theme! My October is wicked busy this year, so I decided to go for a theme that's relatively quick and simple...but no less fun! You know how much I like animals, and how much I love skeletons, and thus this year's theme is...
Skulltober! 31 days of drawing skulls! Each piece is 7 x 5 inches, done on watercolor paper with India ink. I hope you'll enjoy!

these chapters are inspired by @falloutober’s 31 days of apocalyptic prompts for october 2023 — even though it isn’t being written in october, i just love these titles and wanted to work with them <3
this madness is in a semi-organized timeline, and i've included a lot of ocs and changes to canon because i think it's fun, so to get a clear view of the story i recommend reading it in the order it's posted. but if you don't want to, don't worry about it! i've tried to make everything as simple as possible so that each fic can be standalone as well as part of a series.

October is over so here is the post that has links to all my works from October 2023 (I tried for inktober but low high-key failed).
Under 'inktober' I've put only the works that are fully (or mostly that is) ink.
If you see something twice that means it fits both categories I guess.
Inktober
Day 02
Day 04
Day 07
Day 09
Day 10
Day 12
Day 14
Day 18
Day 20 (unnecessary feelings but this time it's drawn with ink)
Day 21
Day 23
Day 24
Day 27
Day 28
Day 29
Day 30
Day 31
Spocktober
Day 01
Day 03
Day 04
Day 05
Day 06
Day 08
Day 09
Day 10
Day 11
Day 13
Day 14
Day 15
Day 16
Day 18
Day 19
Day 21 (more unnecessary feelings, Spock edition)
Day 22
Day 23
Day 24
Day 25
Day 26
Day 28
Day 29
Day 31
October drawings (that fail to properly be in the other categories)
Reigen's birthday
Day 17 (ye I failed day 17 in every aspect :( )
Unnecessary feelings
Gojo
So, I made 17 for inktober, 24 for Spocktober and 4 other drawings that don't fit either.
As you can see, I didn't follow any schedule, maybe next year.
Tumblr media
I hope everyone enjoyed these and happy rest of the autumn (because it's still November pls let it be for a few days it's not Christmas yet)

Inktobertale 2023 complete!! I can’t believe I actually did it.
I’ve never really drawn much before (because I struggle to continue with things I’m not that good at) but I really, really want to become a better artist. I just so happened to get back into the UnderTale fandom just in time for October to start and wanted to challenge myself to participate in InktoberTale 2023 every single day—despite my intense lack of motivation for practicing something I’m not very skilled at (and lack of motivation in general tbh) All of my sketches are just that—sketches—and I only spent a couple of minutes up to half an hour on them, but I think it was good practice regardless.
I’m not going to post all 31 days, but I thought I’d share the last day in the spirit of Halloween (and to celebrate my small accomplishment)
Tumblr media
Sorry for rambling about nonsense, and it was absolutely wonderful seeing everyone else participate in InktoberTale 2023 as well. You all are amazing (and you as well, if you’re just browsing the art instead of joining in :D)
Thank you.
(Ink belongs to @comyet)
((P.S. I will also be doing an honorary Camping themed InktoberTale 2023 EXTENDED Version day tomorrow in honor of the prompt Comyet forgot to put in this year XD))

31 Prompts for October: Horror
Day 19:Necromancy
The night was dark and stormy, and the graveyard was silent except for the sound of thunder and rain. A hooded figure walked among the tombstones, holding a lantern in one hand and a book in the other. He stopped at a grave marked with a cross and a name: "Evelyn Carter, beloved wife and mother, 1998-2023". He knelt down and opened the book, which was filled with ancient symbols and spells. He began to chant in a low voice, tracing a circle around the grave with his finger.
"By the power of the dark arts, I summon you from the realm of the dead. Rise, Evelyn Carter, and speak to me. Answer my questions and reveal your secrets. Come forth, by the name of Necromancy!"
A flash of lightning illuminated the grave, and a crack appeared on the surface. The hooded figure smiled and waited for his wife to emerge. He had spent months searching for this book, which contained the secrets of necromancy. He had sacrificed everything for this moment, hoping to see her face again and ask her why she left him. Why she took her own life without a word of explanation.
He heard a groan from the grave, and saw a hand reaching out from the crack. He grabbed it and pulled, expecting to see his wife's beautiful face. But what he saw instead was a horror that made him scream.
The hand was rotten and decayed, with bones showing through the flesh. The face was even worse, with maggots crawling out of the eye sockets and mouth. The hair was falling out in clumps, and the skin was peeling off. The creature looked nothing like his wife, but it spoke with her voice.
"Hello, darling. Did you miss me?"
The hooded figure dropped the lantern and the book, and ran away from the grave. He tripped over a tombstone and fell to the ground, hitting his head on a rock. He lay there unconscious, bleeding from his wound.
The creature crawled out of the grave and followed him. It reached him and bent over his body, whispering in his ear.
"I missed you too, darling. But you shouldn't have disturbed my rest. Necromancy is a forbidden art, and it has a price. A terrible price."
It opened its mouth and bit into his neck, tearing out his flesh. It fed on his blood, until he was drained of life. Then it dragged his corpse back to the grave, and buried him next to her.
The storm passed, and the sun rose over the graveyard. The lantern was still burning, and the book was still open. On the last page, there was a warning written in red ink:
"Beware of necromancy, for it is an abomination. The dead are not meant to be disturbed, nor are they meant to return. Those who practice this art will suffer a fate worse than death. They will lose their souls, and become slaves of the dark forces."
No one ever read that warning, or learned what happened to the hooded figure and his wife. They remained in their grave, together but not in peace. And sometimes, on stormy nights, their voices could be heard from below.
"Hello, darling. Did you miss me?"

Scholars of antiquity believe they are on the brink of a new era of understanding after researchers armed with artificial intelligence read the hidden text of a charred scroll that was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted nearly 2,000 years ago.
Hundreds of papyrus scrolls held in the library of a luxury Roman villa in Herculaneum were burned to a crisp when the town was devastated by the intense blast of heat, ash and pumice that destroyed nearby Pompeii in AD79.
Excavations in the 18th century recovered more than 1,000 whole or partial scrolls from the mansion, thought to be owned by Julius Caesar’s father-in-law.
However, the black ink was unreadable on the carbonised papyri and the scrolls crumbled to pieces when researchers tried to open them.
The breakthrough in reading the ancient material came from the $1m Vesuvius Challenge, a contest launched in 2023 by Brent Seales, a computer scientist at the University of Kentucky, and Silicon Valley backers.
The competition offered prizes for extracting text from high-resolution CT scans of a scroll taken at Diamond, the UK’s national synchrotron facility in Oxfordshire.
On Monday, Nat Friedman, a US tech executive and founding sponsor of the challenge, announced that a team of three computer-savvy students, Youssef Nader in Germany, Luke Farritor in the US, and Julian Schilliger in Switzerland, had won the $700,000 (£554,000) grand prize after reading more than 2,000 Greek letters from the scroll.
Tumblr media
Papyrologists who have studied the text recovered from the blackened scroll were stunned at the feat.
“This is a complete gamechanger,” said Robert Fowler, emeritus professor of Greek at Bristol University and chair of the Herculaneum Society.
“There are hundreds of these scrolls waiting to be read.”
Dr Federica Nicolardi, a papyrologist at the University of Naples Federico II, added:
“This is the start of a revolution in Herculaneum papyrology and in Greek philosophy in general. It is the only library to come to us from ancient Roman times.”
“We are moving into a new era,” said Seales, who led efforts to read the scrolls by virtually unwrapping the CT images and training AI algorithms to detect the presence of ink.
He now wants to build a portable CT scanner to image scrolls without moving them from their collections.
In October, Farritor won the challenge’s $40,000 “first letters” prize when he identified the ancient Greek word for “purple” in the scroll.
He teamed up with Nader in November, with Schilliger, who developed an algorithm to automatically unwrap CT images, joining them days before the contest deadline on 31 December.
Together, they read more than 2,000 letters of the scroll, giving scholars their first real insight into its contents.
“It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey,” said Youssef.
“The adrenaline rush is what kept us going. It was insane. It meant working 20-something hours a day. I didn’t know when one day ended and the next day started.”
“It probably is Philodemus,” Fowler said of the author.
“The style is very gnarly, typical of him, and the subject is up his alley.”
The scroll discusses sources of pleasure, touching on music and food – capers in particular – and whether the pleasure experienced from a combination of elements owes to the major or minor constituents, the abundant or the scare.
“In the case of food, we do not right away believe things that are scarce to be absolutely more pleasant than those which are abundant,” the author writes.
“I think he’s asking the question: what is the source of pleasure in a mix of things? Is it the dominant element, is it the scarce element, or is it the mix itself?” said Fowler.
The author ends with a parting shot against his philosophical adversaries for having “nothing to say about pleasure, either in general or particular."

Seales and his research team spent years developing algorithms to digitally unwrap the scrolls and detect the presence of ink from the changes it produced in the papyrus fibres.
He released the algorithms for contestants to build on in the challenge.
Friedman’s involvement proved valuable not only for attracting financial donors.
When Seales was meant to fly to the UK to have a scroll scanned, a storm blew in cancelling all commercial flights.
Worried they might lose their slot at the Diamond light source, Friedman hastily organised a private jet for the trip.
Beyond the hundreds of Herculaneum scrolls waiting to be read, many more may be buried at the villa, adding weight to arguments for fresh excavations.
"The same technology could be applied to papyrus wrapped around Egyptian mummies," Fowler said.
These could include everything from letters and property deeds to laundry lists and tax receipts, shining light on the lives of ordinary ancient Egyptians.
“There are crates of this stuff in the back rooms of museums,” Fowler said.
The challenge continues this year with the goal to read 85% of the scroll and lay the foundations for reading all of those already excavated.
Scientists need to fully automate the process of tracing the surface of the papyrus inside each scroll and improve ink detection on the most damaged parts.
“When we launched this less than a year ago, I honestly wasn’t sure it’d work,” said Friedman.
“You know, people say money can’t buy happiness, but they have no imagination. This has been pure joy. It’s magical what happened, it couldn’t have been scripted better."

Wellness Wednesday:
The Groundhog Day Diet
Sunday I officially started my Groundhog Day Diet (the same daily meal on repeat). Obviously the name of the diet stems from the 1993 Bill Murray film, but the month long challenge was more inspired by Morgan Spurlock's 2004 documentary, Super Size Me (a challenge to eat McDonald's for 30 days straight).
I settled on the following specific daily foods for the month:
Lunch:
Turkey & Swiss Sandwich, a Side of Baby Carrots, a Cup Peaches
Snack:
A Serving of Trail Mix
Supper:
Bowl of Soup and a Glass of Milk.
All ^that^ comes out to approximately 1,290 Calories.
Now, I didn't necessarily do this to keep better tabs on my calories - no - I merely did it to see if I could do it - or - better yet see how long before my tongue goes mad.
As well, I am hoping this "diet" will assist my pocketbook as I have planned out my meals, purchased a large majority of all my fixings, thus hopefully minimizing my grocery bill for the month of October. The only items I forsee having to purchase is fresh Turkey, Bread, Milk, and Carrots.
So far, 4 days in, things aren't too shabby. I wish I would have thrown in some popcorn to booster my snack intake... but... I'll know better for next time.
