Across the table, Kon pauses to suck at his milkshake. Kara swings her legs back and forth before hooking her heels back onto the bar on her barstool, humming. He was right; this place has really good fries. And the burgers are solid, too.

“That’s only four guys, though,” she says, counting them off on her salty fingers. “David, Bob, James, and Ben.”

“Yeah! I’m getting there.” Kon grins. He dips one of his fries into the pink swirl of his milkshake (strawberry, because he says he likes everything fruity). Kara wrinkles her nose. That still seems weird to her. But Kon pops it into his mouth, chews, swallows, and continues: “The last guy is Sebastian Shaw. Who was only Vader in two scenes! Although technically you could argue he was never Vader and was only Anakin, if the semantics of that mean anything to you.”

Kara has seen these movies a grand total of once. Very recently. As in, Kon got her to agree to watch all of them this weekend. As in, they finished watching Return of the Jedi about ten minutes before they came here for a late lunch.

“They do not,” she assures.

To her surprise, though, Kon deflates a little. “Oh.” He drops his gaze to the fries left in his basket, then looks up again with a grin that doesn’t seem quite as genuine. “Right, yeah, I’ve been rambling for a while, haven’t I? It’s probably gotta get boring to anyone who doesn’t have these movies literally uploaded into their brain.”

He laughs, but Kara doesn’t join in. She frowns. “I wasn’t telling you to stop,” she objects, and lightly kicks him under the table to accent it. “I was just saying the semantics don’t mean anything to me!” Another kick.

“Stop kicking me,” he pouts, so naturally, she kicks him again. “Linda!”

This time, when her foot connects with his jeans, it freezes in place. Kara gasps, then glares at him. She could probably pull free of his telekinetic grip, but that’d definitely take superstrength, and this diner might not look too kindly on a potential hole in the ceiling. “Let go!”

“Only if you stop kicking me!”

“Then stop pouting and keep telling me movie trivia!”

“You don’t have to say that if you’re getting bored!” Kon huffs. His glasses do nothing to hide the flush on his cheeks. “I know I get rambly sometimes. Blame Cadmus, they’re the ones who made me so good at being annoying.”

He grins again, but Kara’s not buying it. He’s not very slick about hiding that this is an insecurity, is he? He probably thinks he’s being slick. He’s not. It’s endearing.

“I don’t think you’re annoying,” she says honestly. “I like that you get enthusiastic about stuff. I wouldn’t change a thing about you.”

And then, because that’s embarrassingly earnest to say to her cousin while they’re in public, she has to follow it up properly, before she starts blushing too. Lightning-quick, she swipes a finger through his milkshake and dabs a dollop onto the tip of his nose. Ha!

Kon squawks. “Linda!” he protests, face even redder. He scrubs his hand over his nose, then licks the melting milkshake from his palm. “Jeez!”

Kara grins at him. “Your move, Conner.” As a concession, she dips one of her fries into her milkshake (simple and plain vanilla), then pops it into her mouth.

Kon huffs at her and makes a big show of rolling his eyes and scrubbing his face with a napkin. “Uncivilized,” he sniffs. But the telltale soft look in his eyes tells her she’s won, even before he opens his mouth. “Anywhoozies. So after the release of the prequel trilogy, George Lucas decided they needed to do some continuity edits on the originals, and there was a rerelease, and…”

he could see the signs before you did. little fidgeting, eyes darting around, muscles tensing … all indicators that it wouldn't be long before you went into shutdown.

max did what he could to mitigate the effects on you. he got you out of the chaos of the paddock and into his driver's room. he didn't like seeing you get overstimulated. hated it, in fact. he wasn't shy about setting boundaries on your behalf—he'd shove reporters away from you, make snarky comments about the other drivers if they pushed you too far, demand red bull change their garage to make it accessible for you. (what use is being their golden boy if he can't use it to let his boyfriend come to races?)

you had some unique ways of communicating when you couldn't talk. sometimes, you could type or use assistive technology to get your point across. sometimes you could use sign language or emojis or charades. other times communication itself was so overwhelming that max was forced to guess from your body language.

good thing he was fluent in the language of you.

oscar piastri — 158 words:

he had problems with communicating too. he wasn't terrible at it—not at all—but he had times where he would either have a really bad stutter or feel immense anxiety at the idea of verbalising anything. oscar understood when you went nonverbal. both of you frequently used sign language or picture reaction books/apps when words are particularly distressing.

on the occasions where both of you would go nonverbal, you'd sit together on the couch and watch bluey. sometimes you would cuddle, sometimes you'd just sit on opposite ends and enjoy the show. the simplicity of it took away some of the pressure to discuss whatever happened. regardless of whether or not he was nonverbal at the same time, oscar was very very sweet.

he never pressured you to speak or even verbalise. he didn't initiate too many conversations, but he was also happy to keep a running narrative for you if the silence made you anxious.

sebastian vettel — 174 words:

the best thing about seb was that he never shut up. when you were nonverbal, he was always so happy to just ramble and infodump about whatever new project he was on at the time. sometimes it was bees, sometimes it was formula one history and trivia, sometimes it was just general facts. he loved entertaining you and he never held your communication difficulties against you.

you were almost always happy to listen to him. when all things talking or listening were too overwhelming for you, seb didn't take it personally. he just found a cat (you never found out where he kept procuring them from, but he always was good with animals) and plopped it down on your lap.

if you needed down time, he left you alone. he sent you periodic updates and reminders that he was still thinking of you. formula one had taught him that even when you don't want to talk to someone, you could still get lonely. he always wanted you to know that he wouldn't forget you.

How the hell do you manage to superimpose the hilariously exagerated proportions of the tf2 mercs into a cohesive 2d style? I always struggle SO much with like, the way the mercs' models have huge hands, the way they have relatively low-poly definition on things like arms, shoulders, and legs... and Especially the way like, the models are kinda janky when you pose them for art purposes- when using movement tools, things like armpits and seams between body parts get all deformed... Which makes the study of form and silhouette rather difficult.

I assume that a lot of your ability to translate the concept of the mercs from their original mediums into your own works of art comes to you quite naturally- through experience you have with drawing and art style stuff, as well as through intuition. I was simply wondering if I could poke at your mind and get some insight into your process, any thoughts you have about the proportions and silhouettes of the mercs, any quirks you've found while drawing the mercs, or simply what you enjoy drawing about them. Like, don't be afraid to infodump about something just because you think people wouldn't find it interesting- I am here, I am sitting, and I am listening- if you so choose to speak.

I am utterly fascinated and enraptured by the more behind-the-scenes aspect of art. The mundane things that come second nature to great artists yet seem so revolutionary to less experienced artists.

Sorry for the late reply! I've been a little…stuck on how to answer this but that's mainly because to me, drawing is composed of SO many different little skills - you have form, anatomy, shape language, silhouette, appeal, rhythm, acting and posing…not to mention everything AFTER your raw draughtmanship like line style, rendering and colour theory. Trying to distill a multiude of small skills into some pithy advice is overwhelming to my brain. So I'll take the invitation to ramble instead :))

I don't think I have any new or revolutionary insight into the tf2 guys specifically - more I'm using them as work horses to excercise general silhouette/posing/shape-language and further my skills when it comes to drawing characters!

I do agree though the proportions are rather silly when you stop and think about them realistically…they can be kinda tricky if you follow their 'actual' proportions. what looks great individually was maybe never meant to be directly compared (ie: Heavy's hand size against Spy's lol). It would've been funny if the TV show exsisted and we had more content to review…would the animators have had rules like Spy and Heavy can never shake hands? Would they cheated the proportions for shots? Or would they have said WHATVER it's gonna look weird and embraced it? (Like Kingpin in Spiderverse lol)

Paul Lasaine for 'Into the Spiderverse' This is AWESOME. But it's also one of the silliest designs I've ever seen comitted to screen. The varied scales of the characters work because of the unifying treatment (lighting, rendering, consistant hand anatomy, consistant clothing fold treatment etc) and because they are sort of proportional within themselves. A common mantra is that hands should be about as large as a characters face....which they all are here!

Human brains are very flexible and forgiving though. It's totally fine for you to put a character with huge hands and head next to a teeny tiny character! Vanellope and Ralph from Wreck-It Ralph look grand next to each other! And in that film you even have varying levels of stylisation sitting against each other (unified by the look dev treatment of the shaders and lighting). I think as long as the chracter is proportional within themselves it sort of works out. IE: a general rule is that a hand should be as large as the face so…you can have some large arse hands as long as their placed on a body with a big arse head. Unifying characters with the same treatment (ie: lineart brush, colouring style will also help them look cohesive next to each other :) )

I don't actually reference the 3D models/animations very much at all and instead draw their proportions based on my tastes for stylisation following their general vibes/silhouette profiles. I don't stick THAT close to their in-game looks and there are artists who do that are so so so much better than me (Creedei and Flapjack come to mind). I'm not amazing at body-type differentation and TBH they're all wearing chunky clothes all the time so I usually draw the guys as one-of-three body shapes: Heavy is the uniquely wide guy; Sniper/Scout/Spy are all tall and slim and Demo/Soldier/Medic/Engie have a little more of the generic 'hero' bodytype with varying tallness and broadness of the shoulders

Something like this! You can vary all these individual elements in terms of size, thickness, taper amount etc to create different characters. If you ARE going to reference the 3d works though you'll need to apply some anatomy knowledge to overcome the weird shoulders, armpits and knees which desperately need blendshapes to correct the 3D volumes and approach it a little more like an animation supervisor. There's a reason why you see in making-ofs and art-ofs character designers, character leads or animation supes doing drawovers of the models. These are character models that have had great effort put into their 'base' silhouette but it still needs to be reinforced in every frame for maximum appeal.

Shiyoon Kim for 'Raya' This sort of thing will occur at multiple stages during the animation process. Shiyoon Kim's notes are post final model but pre-animation. Most likely for internal rig tests, exploring what blend shapes and alt shapes are needed for the rigs etc. If your production has time, this will continue all the way to final anim. IF! But it's interesting to see how he emphasises the shapes and enhances the character acting of the 3d model.

As for 'mundane things' - I wouldn't say they're second nature! (If that makes you feel better!) I have to actively really persue certain advice and try to figure out how to best apply it. This can sometimes involve redrawing and redrawing an element of the drawing until I've grasped the nettle of whatever I'm after or…..until I get frustrated and either delete the drawing or just call it done lol

Here, I'm looking for a really specific flow of the head that sells both the acting and a subtle head tilt. I'm also trying to apply the general mantra regarding faces that converging lines (set by the eyebrows and mouth) are more appealing than parallel. It's tough! I also tend to use a drawing I've already done as a template/reference on the page too. Oh! This page is an amazing example of why I'm not an animator or storyboarder…consistancy? Who is she? 💅

Converging lines (that form tapered shapes) are always more appealing than parallel. Using this logic you can loft the facial features across converging lines to create dynamic appealing espressions. Combining this with anatomy, perspective and rotation is the tough part though. I'm still learning o7

The things I probably think about MOST are always flats vs curves, simple vs complex and general line of action/flow...and then eliminting tangents. Each of these can be a dedicated visual-essay on their own - hence my stumbling as to answer your question. Anyhow, not sure if it's ever come up on this blog but I looove dinosaurs :)) so i'm using a wee piece to demostrate these ideas! (but also to demostrate these concepts apply to everything from humans characters to animals, props and background design)

Okay, I'm getting self-aware that this is getting really long :') I have a wee tutorial tag for my blog if anyone wants to comb through my garbled art-thoughts. Learning, studying, repetition and practice will always be the greatest teachers! I love this idea so much- I took inspiration from some of my own experiences so this might not apply to everyone but I certainly did my best! I really hope you like it <3

I honestly think Jennifer would appreciate dating an autistic person, especially if you're the type who's very straight forward or overly blunt about things

She probably thought you were a bit of a bitch at first I'm not gonna lie lol, but she makes that assumption about pretty much everyone when she first meets them

You'd seen each other around school before but your first real conversation was when you were paired up for some sort of science project. She was not looking or feeling like her typical hot and fabulous self, and while you weren't the first to notice you were the only one brave enough to point it out

"Have you been getting enough sleep recently? You have really heavy bags under your eyes"

Jennifer wanted to snap at you at first, thinking you were being sarcastic (because obviously she had bags under her eyes, she didn't need anyone pointing it out) but much to her surprise you didn't look like you were making fun of her. In fact, you seemed a little concerned

"Your hair looks pretty damaged." You continued, oblivious to the look of utter shock on her face that you would actually say something like that out loud. "If using both shampoo and conditioner is too much of a trouble I can recommend some two-in-one products. Or you can always use dry shampoo in between washes"

The woman was too stunned to speak. All she was able to do was mutter an awkward "thank you", something that you simply nodded your head at before turning the conversation back over to the project

She gained a lot of respect for you that day, as you were the only person who wasn't afraid to say what everyone was thinking (though she soon learned this was due to you not knowing what was and wasn't considered 'appropriate' to say)

Out of everyone, you're the one person Jennifer goes to (other than maybe Needy) when she needs an honest opinion on something because you won't lie to spare her feelings or try to flatter her

"Which tank top do you think I should wear to school tomorrow, the pink one or the black one?"

"Well, the pink one makes you look like slut. But the black one makes you look like both a slut and a bitch, too"

"Perfect. Black it is, then"

If you ever accidentally make a situation awkward or uncomfortable by your comments or questions you won't even have to worry about being embarrassed because she'll immediately come out with saying something so bitchy and/or vulgar that whatever you said looks innocent in comparison and is forgotten about right away

She'll get very protective if people try to purposely make you feel bad for the out of pocket things you say. After all, you're just telling people the truth, it's not their fault if they can't handle a dose of reality (her words, not mine)

Even though she loves to party she'll most likely either tone it down or just stop going altogether when she finds out you don't like them all that much because of the loud music, bright lights, small spaces crowded with lots of drunk people, etc. She'd rather be with you any way

Always lets you infodump to her about your newest interest or favorite thing, which truly shows just how much she loves you as she usually always has to be the one dominating any conversation she's a part of. Sometimes you wonder if she ever really listens until she gets you something relating to your latest hyperfixation and then you're like "ah okay so she does care :D"

Honestly she's such a trashy mcbling y2k girly (canon, she told me herself) that I feel like she's the type of person to buy you stim/fidget toys and then help you 'bling' them out by gluing on fake rhinestones and such because "you can't just walk around with boring accessories"

Is she the type of person to tease you/make a bunch of sex jokes if you have an oral fixation? Yes. Will she start carrying around lollipops, gum, chew rings, etc. in her purse to give to you when you're feeling distressed in a public place? Also yes

Totally understands if you don't like/can't eat certain foods due to pickiness, especially if this is after her demon possession. She goes out of her way to make sure the pantry is stocked with your safe foods and all your favorite snacks for whenever you come over so you won't run out of them

She may not be the best at comforting you if you're in the middle of a meltdown/sensory overload or if you start crying (especially if it's over something small) but she tries her best to be gentle, not wanting to accidentally make things worse. If you need physical comfort then she'll gladly let you wrap your arms around her and get as close as possible, but if not then she'll stay a safe distance away while trying to cheer you up with words of encouragement

Absolutely hates ableist people. Hates and will eat them /hj. She can't stand when people make you feel bad for not understanding certain phrases or not being able to pick up on social cues

If you're ever confused on something then she takes the time to explain it to you, and yes this includes her sarcasm. She can't stop being sarcastic for anyone, including you (sorry) but she can make accomadations so you don't feel stupid or left out

Jennifer finds your stimming so adorable, especially if you do it when you're excited to see her. The fact that you get so happy you have to make a physical show of it just to get the extra energy out warms her cold, otherwise unfeeling and bitchy heart

If you're a really physically affectionate person then she one hundred percent welcomes it and allows you to touch her at literally any given moment no matter where you are. If not, then that's all the more reason for her to feel special and loved if you ever do give her, say, a hug, especially if you have an aversion to touch

Speaking of which, if there are any clothes of hers that you don't like because the texture of it bothers you/makes your skin crawl then she simply won't wear them around you, and might even get rid of them so you can feel more comfortable touching her. This includes making sure her bed always has the coziest pillows and blankets and comfiest sheets for whenever you spend the night

Overall I think Jen would love you no matter what personality quirks you may have regarding being autistic, and she would never fail to tell you just how much she loves you for them

★ movie nights! whenever it's his turn, he either picks some pretentious, foreign language, criterion collection, 3+ hour film...or he just puts on reruns of star trek or doctor who.

★ when you moved in with him, you both had to buy another bookshelf. both because of the books strewn around spencer's apartment that were unable to be shelved due to overcrowding, and to fit your books there too.

★ he's super worried about doing something wrong. this is probably his first actual serious relationship, so he's being extra cautious to not accidentally insult or hurt you. over time, he learns to relax around you but the worry is still there, just in small doses.

★ he doesn't really like PDA, but he makes up for the lack of it with tons of hugs, kisses, and close contact in private (specifically at home, but anywhere private will do).

★ whenever you two go out and you want to wear formal attire, he'll help you with putting it on! he'll zip up your dress, help tie your tie, fasten your necklace, maybe help with cuff links. he absolutely loves being able to assist you with anything, no matter how small.

★ he was definitely worried when he brought you to go meet his mom for the first time, so he made sure to pick a day where she would be in one of her good moods and also told you everything he knows about schizophrenia and alzheimer's. he was thankfully relieved when his mom liked you and vice versa.

★ a bit corny, but he loves reciting love poems to you. this can also extend to passages from books that discuss romantic love; he has an eidetic memory after all and he's going to put it to good use!

Thank u so so much for the request! First of all I’m super excited to write an autistic reader and hopefully incorporate some of my own autistic traits into it! I’m going to try explore how having a platonic mate may work in yautja culture < 3

Yautja x gn autistic partner (platonic)

Despite yautja culture having a big fixation on mating season and siring many children for a strong bloodline it isn’t compulsory and may be viewed differently between different clans.

One thing that remains the same between yautja clans everywhere is the connection between mates and the right to be with the one who makes you feel at home. This can be romantic/sexual or platonic!

You grew up in the village with your mate after your human clan came to a truce and started living close by to theirs, you often visited them to play even if your parents weren’t to pleased with it. You didn’t have much in common with the other kids in your village, it was like they could tell you were different in a way you could never place.

You’d rather play with the Yautja anyway. Their form of communication was more straight forward, no hidden expectations or false niceties, everything was laid out plain to see when it came to emotions and rules. If you wanted to play you could ask and if they weren’t in the mood that was ok, playing separately in the same space was always an option.

Gradually as the years passed you became basically inseparable, your families more comfortable with your friendship after so many sleep overs and sparring sessions in either parties houses.

When you both matured and eventually told your parents about being mates it was no surprise, honestly your parents and friends wondered why you hadn’t told them earlier, it turns out you and your giant scaly mate where the last to realise. Your loved ones were a little confused when you told them you were platonic mates but quickly accepted it once you explained what it was and that you’d never been happier than in each others company.

You’ve always tended to get on better with the Yautja anyway so your partner was perfect for you! Not a race of many words in the first place there isn’t any pressure on you to verbalise, in the same way your mate is happy to listen if you fall on the other end of spectrum and never stop talking, loving the way your ooman dialect sounds to them. You definitely pick up vocal stims from them. Yautja have a big range when it comes to vocalisations, from chitters and clicks to full roars, you’re bound to find one that feels good to imitate on replay. Sometimes this can be extra comical to your mate if it means something out of context in their language. For instance you can be letting out angry chitters whilst happily washing the dishes and swaying to music. If you can’t get the hang of it due to your ooman vocal cords not having the right parts to do it then your partner will be happy to make the noise on request.

Furs! Furs are heavy, dense and soft. Your mate will gift them to you after returning from a hunt as a sign of affection. You love to run your hands over the sleek hair and rub your cheeks against it, relishing in the way it feels. Furs are usually pretty large and weighty, if you’re having a bad day or feeling particularly overstimulated then your mate may tuck you under multiple of them to ground you. This is a good alternative to using your mate for deep pressure, let’s be real they probably weigh 500+ pounds without armour and would crush you like a tin can.

If your special interest happens to relate to hunting or bones then your mate will be extra excited! They’ll bring you back different types of animal bone to work on/observe. Make bone jewellery with them and sell it at the markets, just don’t laugh at them to hard when they start snarling in frustration because their large hands can’t thread the bone properly.

If you have a limited pallet due to arfid or texture issues don’t worry, if anything it may be more convenient for them since they’ll know the best spots to hunt/gather your safe foods. If you like a lot of flavour there’s plenty of spices and plants you’ve never tried to explore. Your mate will be in bits on the floor whilst your eyes water from the heat of the new vegetable.

If you enjoy stimming with the rubbery texture of your mates dreads then they may let you play with them, smoothing your hands down them and flicking the gold trinkets wrapped around to hear the noise they make. Touching a yautja’s dreads is a very personal thing but it’s just another way they show their trust and comfort with you.

I've mostly been working on prompt fills for Steddie Spooktober, and that's taken up pretty much my whole entire brain, but in the spaces in between, I've been thinking about autistic!Steve

See, Steve sort of "lucks out" in that his special interests fall under what's considered acceptable for a boy to be interested in. He loves sports. He loves cars. He loves learning everything about them - about statistics, about the players, about how engines work, about all the different makes and models there are. He just... has to learn not to talk about these things so much, after a while. Or maybe not talk about them at all, because he thinks they're fascinating, but other people - maybe not so much, and he's bad at gauging when people have lost interest until they're telling him to just shut up already

But he learns

And stimming? Well, it turns out that exercising and playing sports are the perfect, full-body stims for Steve. Things like rocking and flapping his hands and wiggling in place? Not acceptable. Things like going for a jog, swimming laps, shooting basketballs again and again and again until he's perfected his technique? Great; encouraged, even. And for the times when he can't exactly go for a run or start doing sit-ups, he finds something to fidget with; he learns how to spin and twirl pretty much anything he can get his hands on (anything to keep him from doing those socially unacceptable things)

Emotions are harder. When he's a kid, and the world is too loud too close too much and he hasn't learned how to handle it yet, when he has meltdowns, he gets written off as a spoiled brat, crying because he hasn't gotten his way. That's no good, so Steve learns how to internalize it; when things get to be too much, he's likelier to withdraw and shut down. Outsized emotional reactions aren't cool, and they make the other kids pull away from him, so he swerves towards the other end of the spectrum and expresses very little. Being aloof, it turns out, is considered cool, so Steve keeps it up

So he's out there masking so hard that the thing is practically glued to his face when he falls in love with Nancy Wheeler. Nancy, who isn't impressed by his cool facade or by how well he can play basket ball or by who he's friends with, but who seems to like him when he's being a goof, when he lets tiny slivers of himself out

So he lets a little more out. Nancy likes it, likes him, and it makes him feel safe

It doesn't work out, of course - of course. Steve should have known better. No one likes it when he lets all his shit out. He's halfway through duct taping his mask back on when Dustin happens. The kid works his way into the cracks, widens them, makes himself at home there, encourages Steve to be loud and weird if he wants to - all of Dustin's other friends are, and they seem... happy for it

Maybe Steve can be happy that way, too

Maybe he can watch movies he used to consider himself too cool for and come up with a secret handshake that he practices the motions for over and over again because it's fun. Maybe when he and Robin become friends, he can listen to her infodump about foreign languages, and then he can tell her all about sports statistics without worrying that she's going to tell him to shut up. Maybe he can talk to Eddie about cars and learn about them from a new perspective, and he can soak the information up and never wonder if Eddie is getting sick of talking to him. Maybe, with time and distance, he can realize that he and Nancy just hadn't been what the other needed, that she had never hated him, and he can be a goof around her again, and they can make each other smile

Maybe, bit by bit, Steve learns that he doesn't have to cut himself into small pieces in order to be loved, and he thrives

hyperfixations. ꒱ so he recognises your intense focus, and he knows how to exploit it. kai doesn’t necessarily see your hyperfixation as a flaw… he encourages them, but selectively—only if it benefits him. when you infodump to him, he listens because he’s learning you. figuring out how to weave himself into the things you love. if your special interest is something creative, he turns it into a tool for propaganda. as for history, psychology, or sociology? even better. he frames his ideology as something that fits into those categories. kai makes you think that your passions have been leading you to him all along.

executive dysfunction & task paralysis. ꒱ obviously, kai would be irritated with your inability to complete simple tasks, but he’s not one to directly express that frustration (not in the beginning, anyway.) when he sees your struggles with motivation and decision-making, he’ll present himself as the solution (he has a saviour complex) and starts controlling your schedule, making you reliant on his structure so deeply that you can’t imagine functioning without him.

sensory issues. ꒱ kai keeps track of them, but for manipulative purposes. let’s say you hate certain textures, sounds, or environments, and kai remembers—he’ll use them against you as a punishment. or, if he wants you to associate comfort with him, he makes sure to be the person who removes those triggers (knowing kai, he’s likely the person who planted those triggers in the first place lol)

hyperactivity or impulsivity. ꒱ he finds it amusing and sometimes often uses it to push you toward his own goals. for example commit violent crimes.

rejection sensitivity dysphoria. ꒱ kai loves how deeply you feel rejection, because it means he can destroy you with a single sentence. he’ll praise you, award you with affection to make you crave his approval, then withdraw it when he wants to control you. “wow. and here i thought you actually understood what we were doing here. guess i gave you too much fucking credit, huh?” and when you’re at your lowest, when you feel like you’re nothing without his validation? “hey, c’mon. you know i’m only hard on you because i believe in you. i see something in you no one else has… you just gotta prove me right.”

stimming & fidgeting. ꒱ kai has mixed feelings about your stimming. he supposes in a clinical way, it’s sort of fascinating. takes mental notes on what aggravates you, what you do when you’re overwhelmed. sometimes, when he’s in a good mood, kai tolerates it. sometimes, it’s “no. sit fucking still. learn some goddamn self-control.”

emotional dysregulation. ꒱ oh he fucking loves exploiting this. if you are prone to emotional outbursts, he knows exactly how to provoke you into them and then make you feel like he is the only one who does not judge you for it.

struggles with social cues. ꒱ he acts like your personal translator, making you feel like he is the only one who truly understands you.

A/N: I myself am audhd (autistic and adhd) and I haven’t really seen much at all of ateez and nd reader stuff so I decided to write about it myself, specifically Hongjoong as he’s on of my ults. This is based around my nd habits/brain/experience, as obviously I know myself best so I draw from my own experiences, however I did try to include a bit of other nd experiences.

Hongjoong is nd in this, if you don’t like that, don’t read. (Let’s be honest, that man is most likely nd in reality anyway)

Fuck that’s a lot of writing. Onto the actual content:

• He’d silently notice when your brain is completely scattered and you just can’t think of what you’re meant to be doing. He’d come over and ask what you’re trying to do and then direct you on what steps to do to achieve it. You know the steps, but your brain just can’t sent them out. (with demand avoidance idk if this would work for everyone, but ik for me this is basically a love language)

• Throughout the day he’d ask if you’ve been eating and drinking, softly reminding you to if you haven’t. Or if you have decision paralysis he’d bring up the list of your safe foods he has on his phone and suggest some

• He’d always carry a spare pair of charged noise cancelling headphones with him, even when you’re not with him (he probably needs them too, I’m 99% sure that man is neurodivergent) he’d have them for you in case yours die or you forget them

• He’d always appreciate it so much when you check if he’s eaten and drank water as well, even if he doesn’t necessarily express it, because he forgets to a lot

• He’d know most if not all of your safe songs, have a playlist of them on his phone for if you need to listen on his phone for whatever reason

• Music is 100% both of your shared special interest. You’re always sharing songs with each other and singing together

• One day he asks if you want to see how he makes music. You gladly accept and so he takes you to his studio and starts showing you how he makes beats, how to put the song together, his recording process. He infodumps and gets so goddam excited to show his favourite person one of his favourite things ever. It just makes you so happy to see him so ecstatic taking about his special interest

• The look he gets on his face when you’re infodumping about your special interest to him makes your heart melt. It’s so so so loving, because he’s seeing his favourite person at their happiest, feeling completely safe unabashedly sharing their favourite thing with him

• He’ll sometimes see you nesting with all your soft toys when you’re in sensory overload, and he thinks it’s the cutest goddam thing ever

• You’ll both occasionally come home to the other person having cleaned a significant part of the house (usually the bedroom) because dopamine dopamined

• I feel like he would know he’s nd but wouldn’t actually know heaps about it, like the traits of it, and what it means for a person in their everyday life and how their brain works, so he’d learn so much about it from you, always willing to try to understand you better, and never telling you that you don’t have certain traits/diagnoses simply because he hasn’t done the research (lol not me trying to heal myself through this post)

• You’d pick up stims from the other members, just from random things they’d do or say, not even necessarily them stimming, but their stims as well (Seonghwa I’m looking at you). Hongjoong would jokingly get jealous that you’re not picking up his stims. You do though, ALL THE TIME. One of you gets a new stim and suddenly for the next 2 weeks that’s all that’s happening around the house, whether it’s vocal stims or physical stims

• You guys find it so difficult to be in social situations and often get anxious when you’re not with each other in social situations. Which gets really difficult for Hongjoong cos of his job, but your shared special interests and stims gets him though it usually.

• When you guys are together in social situations you are glued at the hip, never leaving each other’s side; you’re both each others safe place

• HJ already isn’t fond of physical touch but when he’s in sensory overload he can’t stand someone being even a little too close to him. You’re his safe place, safe person, but if he’s too overstimulated he will go into shutdown if you come to close. You learned this early on from experience and you now know what his stims and behaviour are when he’s overstimulated and know to give him the space he needs, which he appreciates infinitely. He loves you even more for it and you will always do it for him because you love him

• On that same idea, he will come to learn what your sensory issues are, and what triggers them, what your behaviour and stims look like when you’re in sensory overload and what to do to help you best. He just wants you to feel like he understands you and wants you to know he respects and loves you for your nd, not in spite of it

• You both aim to best understand each other’s neurodivergence and respect it and it brings so much love to your relationship

How their lashes brush against their cheeks, how their hair falls in front of their face (if they have long hair, at least), how softly they breathe, etc

Zayne and Caleb obviously have known each other since childhood, but Zayne has absolutely no idea what Caleb has done nor the effects of the chip. He does notice small things, like how Caleb will glare at him while MC isn't looking, the slightly possessive arm wrap, the way Caleb leans closer when all 3 are out and about. Zayne doesn't do much though, at least not super obvious. He'll make it a slight competition, making sure MC's okay, telling Caleb it's fine because "MC is his patient, they're taken care of", making sure MC is eating well, his sentences losing the usual monotone tinge it has to show teasing, almost amusement at Caleb's antics. If Zayne knew though...oh, all hell would break loose and i'm sure we'd have a Dawnbreaker incident

Rafayel and Caleb would have the most explosive fights i think, not around MC though. Never around MC. Lots of arguing, Rafayel putting his daggers to Caleb's throat, Caleb pressing his military pistols to Rafayel's head, the both of them grinning like mad men. Viscious words being thrown around, threats being done. Words like "my beloved bride" and "I'm their protector" are used constantly. At the end of it all, they probably both pout when MC is around, leaving them confused because what the fuck just happened??? Hello???

Sylus probably doesn't give him much of any fight, just using half truths and sly, sarcastic comments to get under Caleb's skin. He knows Caleb knows that MC stayed with him in the N109 Zone, he's well aware Caleb knows of the warning he gave them about family being the biggest betrayal, and he uses it to his advantage. Caleb gets easily frustrated and pissed off, Sylus' words affecting him a lot, but he's perfected the art of hiding his emotions over the years, so the only way you know of this is the fire in Caleb's eyes

His Evol when he feels extreme emotions is also hard to pin down for how it activates. I'd like to think when he's happy, he himself floats, maybe MC if it happens to be a hug or kiss from them, not too high though. Or when he's angry, stuff gets thrown to a wall. Not sure about sadness/upset/hurt though...

His love language has all of em, but I think the main big one is Acts of Service and Quality Time

very caught off guard the first time he saw/heard you stimming because he had no idea that was a thing. once you explain it to him he’s pretty chill about the whole thing — but if you have echolalia and he’s in a playful mood he may try and mess with you a bit (not to be mean he just thinks it’s funny, and thinks you’re cute when you’re annoyed with him)

thinks it’s cute as hell when you get super into a new hobby or piece of media and will spoil you to hell and back — doesn’t matter to him how expensive the merch/equipment/whatever is, you’re his partner goddamnit and he will make sure you have it!

also loves listening to you rant and infodump about the things you love so never feel like you’re getting ‘too excited’ or talking ‘too much’ because he will very quickly knock that idea out of your head. whenever he’s away on longer missions and the two of you are apart, he’ll ask you to hop on the phone for a bit or to send him voice notes about whatever niche facts you’ve learned and he’ll listen to them before he falls asleep (it helps him unwind and get over his homesickness for a while)

chuuya is a very attentive boyfriend by default and that extends well past just helping you tactfully avoid situations that could lead to discomfort or even outright sensory overload — it also involves him checking out any potential date locations well in advance to see what the lighting is like, whether they have foods you can safely enjoy, how busy they are, and so on. can’t have his partner feeling uncomfortable on a date now, can he?

not above threatening or even outright fighting people who try and treat you like a child or like you’re stupid because of your autism — he’s killed people for far less, after all

while his work as a port mafia executive isn’t the most conducive to keeping a consistent schedule from day to day, he does his best to be as undisruptive to your routine as possible. naturally there are times where he’ll need to reschedule or cancel, or where he runs late because of missions or paperwork or whatever, but he does his due diligence to keep you informed so you aren’t unsettled or thrown off too much by his work

doppo kunikida

doesn’t really pay much mind to your stims, be they physical or verbal, and once he’s seen/heard them he just stops registering them for the most part (i.e. he’s not going to point them out or react when you do them in the future). at most he’ll be briefly caught off guard when you develop a new stim, but after that he just goes about his life as normal

tries his best to at least be aware of whatever you’re fixating on at any given time so that he can talk to you about it, but don’t expect him to be able to match your enthusiasm on everything. he does always listen to your rants though, so surely that counts for something

as your boyfriend, he’s very tuned in to your body language and has a keen awareness of the things that are most likely to overwhelm or overstimulate you (e.g. what foods or textures to steer clear of, what areas are the loudest/busiest, and so on). so the second he notices you starting to get overwhelmed he’ll help you get out of the situation as smoothly and quickly as possible before deferring to his notebook and fetching you all the things that he knows will help you decompress

when it comes to picking up social cues and roundabout language, if that’s something you happen to struggle with, then he’ll happily do whatever he can to help ‘keep you in the loop’ as it were. and that can mean anything from giving you a notebook filled with turns of phrase that usually go over your head and their implied meanings for you to refer back to, to being more straightforward with his own language around you, to quietly helping you follow along with any subtle signs you might have missed. it’s a process for sure, but he manages to make it work

if establishing and following set schedules and routines is something you benefit from, then kunikeda may just be the best partner you could possibly have — after all, that notebook isn’t just something he carries around for the sake of it! just say the word and he’ll help you come up with the most ideal schedule possible for you to follow

(and he’s not above smacking anyone upside the head if they try to intentionally disrupt your routines to mess with you for whatever reason)

fyodor dostoevsky

fyodor is quite possibly the most well informed person on this list when it comes to autism — in large part because he went above and beyond when looking into you and your background before the two of you became an item, but also because he just pays close enough attention to you to pick up on your likes, dislikes, and habits without you ever needing to tell him outright

on slower days, when all he’s able to do is sit at his desk and stare at screens of data for hours at a time, he’ll invite you to sit with him and talk to him about whatever you’re interested in at the moment — your rambling and info dumping is a welcome reprieve from the monotony of his work and he just generally doesn’t mind sitting and listening to you talk (he thinks you have a lovely voice)

indulges you a lot and will fund your hyperfixations as they come and go, but his help does come with the condition that you don’t let yourself get too caught up with your new hobby or favourite thing. i.e. he’ll buy you whatever merch or equipment you want/need but you need to keep your collections confined to their designated room(s) and not let it eat into the rare time you get to spend together — a pretty fair trade off all things considered

very aware of any textures/sensations/etc. that bother you and will do everything he can to help you avoid them in your day-to-day life — and as long as you don’t exit his sphere of influence you just straight up will never have to deal with anything like that. likewise he’s quick to step in if he notices you getting overstimulated and will remove you from the situation in a subtle but effective manner

to be perfectly honest, being in a relationship with fyodor means that you’re not really going to need to interact with anyone outside of a very select group of individuals so picking up on any social cues stops being a major concern after a while. but if you’re really worried about upsetting, say, sigma of all people then he’ll step in and help you out

if you’re someone who needs a set routine and to be given time to mentally prepare for something in advance then he’s more than happy to accomodate you: workshopping a schedule that fits your needs, arranging dates weeks in advance and telling you what you’ll be doing to avoid stress, keeping you as in the loop as he reasonably can so you’re not too caught off guard or majorly disrupted by his elaborate plans, and so on — for someone who is often called a ‘demon’, fyodor can be remarkably empathetic and accommodating when he wants to be

gin akutagawa

had no clue what autism actually was when the two of you met — like of course she’d heard the word before and she was aware that it was something that people had, but that was about it — but once you told her that you were autistic she did a bit of homework on her own to actually understand the condition, and all credit to her she really does get it

thinks it’s cute when you get so happy/excited that you start stimming and is not afraid to pull a knife on anyone who tries to mock or infantilise you because of any particular stims you have. she adjusts more easily to physical stims (like hand flapping for example) than vocal stims, but once she knows that you’re just stimming and not trying to communicate anything specific she’ll get used to them pretty quickly

whenever she goes out shopping and she sees something related to whatever you’re hyperfixating on at the moment she’ll buy it for you — and while this is a cute habit of hers, it won’t take long for you to end up with drawers upon drawers of nicknacks that are adjacent to your interests… as well as any official gear/merch/etc. that she can get her hands on. she just likes making you happy is all

very quick and subtle about making sure you’re not in a situation where you’re sure to get overstimulated or experience sensory overload. she precisely cuts the labels out of your clothes once she knows they fit you right, cutting them perfectly so there’s no bothersome threads left behind. she changes out the lights in her apartment to ones that are less flashy or bright of that bothers you. she gets new blankets and towels for when you come around if the textures of her old ones mess with you. she memorises the ingredients and recipes to your safe foods off by heart. and, being an assassin, it goes without saying that she’s very good at getting you out of overwhelming social situations without causing a scene

more of a listener than a talker by nature so never feel like you’re talking too much or getting overexcited with her because she loves hearing about the things you’re passionate about — you’re, like, the only real reprieve she gets from her work with the pm so she treasures these moments more than you might realise

ryuunosuke akutagawa

takes note of your stims and generally registers them as just ‘a thing you do sometimes’ and thus doesn’t react to them much. will use his ability on anyone who tries to patronise, mock, or belittle you for stimming — would also sooner cut off his own leg than admit to it (hates being thought of as soft or protective, but he really really is)

never really ‘gets’ your hyper fixations and will occasionally, on instinct, insult your interests (he gets better about this over time but old habits are hard to break), but he will begrudgingly indulge you and buy you whatever you want/lend you his black card so you can buy things. don’t expect him to be fawning over your favourite series any time soon, but know that he is listening and paying attention to what you’re talking about (he may not show it well all of the time, but he does care about you and he wants to understand you… even if he truly doesn’t get what’s so awesome about this character you like)

whenever you experience sensory overload/get overstimulated akutagawa will do one of two things. the first option involves him using rashoumon to swiftly and effectively destroy/kill what/whoever was responsible for you getting so overwhelmed and uncomfortable. the second option involves him removing you from the situation and awkwardly standing next to you and trying his best to calm you down for a while — usually done when he’s in a situation where he cannot activate his ability for whatever reason (e.g. you’re at a gathering with other executives)

if you happen to struggle with social cues and metaphorical language then, unfortunately, your boyfriend isn’t going to be able to help you all that much. sure he’s always very straightforward and always says and does exactly what he means, but he��s in much the same boat as you as far as other people are concerned — difference being that he doesn’t care

if you struggle with breaking routine or need to work with an established schedule from day to day then akutagawa will work around your timetable as best as he can. of course in his line of work there will inevitably be times where he needs to cancel or reschedule your plans at the last minute, but he always tries to give you as much notice as he feasibly can — and, in his own way, he does try and make up for his absences once he’s back home

(Idk if there's any warnings for this? It's pretty much pure fluff. Gar calls the reader 'cute'. Idk. Mentions of shooting games, if that's a warning?)

So, this might be obvious, but I have to say it - Gar would bring you to an arcade for a first date. It's classic, it's cute, it can be romantic as well as being a shitton of fun. It would be his first choice of a date no matter what.

He would love sharing all of his favourite games with you, and he would encourage you to try them no matter what - if you're not very good at games or if you're an expert and you're gonna beat all of his high scores, then he will be right by your side, cheering you on as you play.

He is absolutely not fancy - he would love pizza or burgers and fries as a first date food (of course, his version would be vegan or vegetarian). It would be totally fun and casual to just hang out with him and talk over some casual food and then go back to playing games afterwards.

He would absolutely try to win something out of a claw machine for you. And maybe it's luck or his arcade skills coming into play, but he got you the cute plushy that you wanted on his first try, and he plucks it out of the slot and hands it over to you with a huge smile on his face, telling you that it's a special present for you. (It's something that you treasure closely for the rest of your life.)

(Also, if he couldn't win you something from the claw machine, he would get his arm stuck in the slot reaching up from the bottom trying to get the plushy you wanted.) (Because he genuinely thought it was a good idea.)

Gar is the type of person who spews a lot of nerdy facts - he loves infodumping (it's one of his love languages), and he ends up telling you the lore behind every character in the games, the origin of every arcade cabinet, and general fun facts about every single game you play. You can't help but to soak it up, lovingly listening to everything he says and falling more for him with every single word he speaks.

If you tell him that there's a character or a game that you prefer, then he will double down on speaking lore about them, and he will even find a way to relate them back to you and your life as a compliment. ("Well, that character is super cute, just like you are.")

If there's some type of shooting game or something where you have to use a fake gun and practice your aim, Gar would not use it as an excuse to put moves on you. In fact, he would be surprised when you wrapped your arms around him from behind and put your hands around his as he held the plastic gun - and he would be far too busy with the distraction of the butterflies in his stomach and the heat rising in his face to even pay attention to what you were saying about a cheat to shoot more zombies. (If asked, he wouldn't have said that it was intentional flirting. He would have said that it was a correction of his technique that made his stomach flip.) (Nobody tell him.)

When the night is over, he will insist on walking you home. He wants to make sure you get home safely, and even though he's absolutely not expecting a goodnight kiss - he likes you a lot and he turns into a babbling wreck when you pull him close by the front of his jacket and capture his lips in yours for the first time.

Basically - a first date with him would be something straight out a romcom. Sweet, fun, and absolutely memorable in your relationship.

I feel like Dream would be very "into people", he'd want to learn about culture and history and I feel like he'd be very interested in all the arts associated with it—both as a tool, studying other people to understand them better and help them, and also because he'd want to fill in the gap between the 16th century and the current era, would want to know what's been going on!

Art, music, folklore, clothes, religion, languages, cuisine, and so on, I feel like he'd try to cover it with just wanting to catch up with what he's missed but really he's just very autistic (/very loving, from an autistic nerd) about it all.

In fact, most people don't know he was trapped in stone, he doesn't really tell people that and when they ask how things were in this or this era, he just Knows all the info, yk? Wjnfne
