The strength card imagery works in several ways but the visual correlation of the lion with, “ Surrealism is the magical surprise of finding a lion in a wardrobe where you were sure of finding shirts,” works.

It's gonna be a trans inclusive sex ed zine/graphic novel type thing. I'm having a lot of fun making it! But I really want input from other folks. What questions do you have? What things are keeping you from trying it out? What do you wish someone had told you sooner?

This week’s #zine #review is of “Why Birding #1” by @artsnfartsnkris!

I love watching ducks at the pond. Ducks aren't self-conscious or rude. They simply exist.

This zine is about birding. I keep wanting to write "birdwatching," but as the zine describes, you can still be aware a bird is there even if you can't see them. Bird song is distinctive. This zine has this cool illustration thing where it has silhouettes of birds made up of photos of nature. I liked that as a visual representation of bird awareness.

My very first Zine!

Making big strides on my public domain zine today! Over half-way done with only 3 spreads left to go. It’s been really fun putting this together and playing with new techniques. I’ve been really reliant on Illustrator lately, and this whole project is Photoshop + InDesign - which is helping me remember I can bounce easily between applications when I need to! I’m not looking forward to setting this up for printing... but that���s a problem for future Alex!

Mini-zine about why driving slowly helps frogs! (Rough and short english translation below!)

English translation:

Page 1) Why does it help to drive slowly during toad migrations?

Page 2&3) During certain times of the year, car drivers might notice signs that urge them to drive slowly due to toad migrations. But why does that help? Even if you drive as slow as you walk, you probably can‘t avoid toads or frogs… apart from that, dodging them while driving might actually be dangerous! (Grandma in the car asks: „is that a frog or a leaf?“)

But dodging them isn‘t the idea! While driving, the car pushes air away from it. Some of the air goes underneath the car where it causes a certain amount of pressure between the car and the road. The faster you drive, the more intense is the pressure.

4&5) If you look at the skeleton of a frog, you can see one major difference to that of a human: While humans have ribs that protect many of their organs such as their lungs and heart, frogs don‘t have any at all. (The human organs say: „the ribs are like armour for us!“)

6&7) The unprotected organs can be squished by nothing more than the air-pressure underneath a quick driving car, which can be avoided by driving slower.

But why should that matter to you? Apart from the fact that toads and frogs are simply awesome, they also play an important role in our ecosystem. They are an important source of food for birds, crabs, fish and even some mammals and without them this food chain might get interrupted. Possibly more interesting for you is, that they eat snails and insects. (Frog says: „I keep the mosquitos away from your body and the snails away from your garden!“)

8) Finally, there are often voluntaries who help the little animals get across the street and they too would like to avoid being caught by a car :)
