Hi! Video game developer here. I hope you don't mind me jumping on your post. Please allow me to make an argument supporting the price and the value of modern day video game titles. Video games cost more money than ever to make.

Players demand more and more content for the exact same price they've been paying for years.

This is why we are seeing an infestation of micro-transactions and pared down DLC. Companies are trying to recoup that $30-$60 discrepancy.

The refusal to pay more for their games (along with admittedly poor planning and trend chasing on leadership's part) has resulted in a historic number of layoffs and company shutdowns. In 2024, nearly 15,000 developers lost their jobs. This year hasn't been as rough (only 1,500 so far).

In Ms. Nicholson's video she states that (and I am paraphrasing here), "if [she] knew the actors and workers were being given the money [she] was spending, it would be worth it."

The money you are spending on video games and their consoles IS GOING TO THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE GAMES! (Here are a few websites that estimate budgets for games. They are largely based on the costs of paying developers. )

I won't say buy the Switch if your options are between a gaming console and rent for the month; but if you want the console and have the change to spare, please make the purchase. That way we developers can pay our rent too.

Like, okay, I love Taco Bell nachos. I love them so much. At time of filming, those cost a little under $3. If someone asked me if they were worth it, I would say, "Yes, certainly!" If tomorrow, they suddenly cost $20, I would immediately be able to say, "Oh, mm-mm, no. No, they're not worth that." I wouldn't say, "Well, I really like them, so I suppose if you can afford it, they're worth it." I would say no, they're worth around $3. Maybe up to five, if I was desperate.

Keep an eye out for more cotton midi skirt updates after this one, but here's another little sneak peek about what's to come soon: If all goes as planned (no guarantee lately.. but hopefully it will) I'll be opening up preorders for solid black cotton midis in A-C Sizes (XXS-3X) starting this Thursday!! The manu for these knows about our current other order's tariff struggle and is willing to work with us about a lower order minimum to start, so I think I'll only need about 12 preorders to be able to fund an initial production order with them! Which is GREAT news!! A few other things to note: - D Size will have to wait until a future order *or* will only unlock if we get a lot more than 12 preorders initially (I'll be figuring out the math on that soon), so apologies in advance if it take us a little while to get that size implemented in cotton. - Price will be $149.99 - Same fit and huge pockets as our current synthetic midis, but the fabric of course has a bit less stretch to it so maybe you can only fit like 39 hotwheels in a pocket instead of 46 or w/e - I will only have solid black available. Later on I plan to do some hand dyed design sort of stuff using the black skirts as a base since I can't have printing done the way we do on synthetics & I also can't really afford to order more than one color/design regardless. If you want something with more of a design going on, please hold out for future updates (tho it could be quite a ways away still), but also if we can't sell enough solid black it'll be tough to get to the stage of having ones with designs to offer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - Fulfillment will be in July(? have to confirm a few more things to be certain) - Compared to our mainstay stuff, tariffs are less likely to fuck with this project too much (the factory is in India), but they could definitely become an issue in the future. Who knows.. - I hope everything will go as smoothly as possible and everyone who gets one will love their new cotton skirts!!! Thank you!

Just in case Trump wins:

right after Trump was elected in 2016, suicidality skyrocketed. If you’re considering suicide in the wake of the election this year, at least wait until after it’s absolutely certain that he’s won - after every vote has been counted, every state certified, and maybe even after he’s been sworn in (IF he wins), just to make sure he doesn’t go to prison instead. Watch the results come in live here, but don’t obsess or let them sway your vote. (To be clear, I don’t want a single person to commit suicide over the election results, no matter what. But I know from experience that “don’t do it” is thoroughly unhelpful, so instead I’m saying at least wait.)

if you’re considering suicide because you fear worsening material conditions, you might think a hotline can’t help with that. and it’s true that they can’t change legislation or promise you’ll be safe. but it’s worth double checking whether what you’re actually hurting from is in fact unfixable. right now, just getting through the emotions can help you regain a more objective view of the situation, and then you can work on surviving it. plus, when something bad happens, we tend to vastly overestimate how bad it will seem in the future, no matter how bad it actually is.

In my experience, it might take a few tries before you find a hotline that picks up, either because they’re so busy, or they’re closed at that time, or they simply don’t serve your location or demographic, so under the thingy I’ve listed more than just the same handful that tend to show up on other websites. Even if you’re not actively suicidal, you can talk to them about your hard feelings, ask for material resources, or just vent to a compassionate listener.

Heritage breed time!!!

Agersø cattle (pronounced kinda like ayersoe (more specifically like ˈæˀjʌsøˀ)) is a medieval breed from Denmark. They were thought to have gone extinct in the 1950s, but in 1990 a heritage breed enthusiast named Stig Benzon discovered a tiny population on the island of Agersø, owned by a hermit named Lars Peter Nielsen:

Lars informed Stig that these cattle had been isolated on his family farm since the 1700s. And they were discovered just in time, as 3 years later Lars had to retire due to a double leg amputation, and all his cattle would've been sent to slaughter if not for Stig.

In 2004 the cattle were genetically analyzed, and they were found to have 9 unique alleles, found in no other European breed, proving that they were actually a holdover from the 1700s!

Today their population sits at about 150, all of whom live a semi-free life of luxury at Stig Benzon's heritage farm.
