The Beauty of the Mind: Who Has the Most Beautiful Minds in America?
In a world that often glorifies external beauty—whether through physique, art, or music—what if we shifted our gaze inward? What if we celebrated the beauty of the mind instead? This post invites you to pause and consider: What makes a mind beautiful? Who do you believe exemplifies this kind of beauty, and why? What Is a Beautiful Mind? When we think of a “beautiful mind,” what comes to mind?…

Oh and before anyone comes at me saying “you are silencing her” or whatever the hell you like to tell yourself, here’s what I think:
«Taking down baseless, unproven allegations on TikTok/YT isn’t about “silencing victims”... it’s about protecting individuals from the chaos of mob mentality and the very real consequences of unfounded accusations. Posting allegations online, without evidence or due process, turns justice into a popularity contest where public opinion becomes more powerful than the truth. This irresponsible behavior doesn't just harm the accused but fuels online harassment, character assassination, and irreversible damage to reputations. […] People’s lives, careers, and mental health can be severely impacted based on speculation alone. Liam got so much online bullying and harassment. […] It’s reckless to call for public judgment when the facts haven’t been examined in any structured, legitimate way. Sending a C&D letter to silence him… then asking why he won't speak? Really? I call that manipulation at the finest. Demanding that she take down the videos is not about “silencing” anyone; it’s about ensuring that the truth isn’t drowned out by hearsay. When unproven allegations take center stage, it sends a message that public accusations hold more weight than justice itself. And are we ok with that? NO! Victims deserve to be heard, but in a way that’s responsible, FAIR (so two sides are heard not just one), and legally sound». (via X).

Oh my god you're not even American and you're acting like you're under Stalin
Well, yeah?
In the best case scenario, Trump's second term is as chaotic and isolationist as his first term - which is something that will have substantial impacts on international affairs and my country's domestic policies? I'm particularly concerned about the international reverberations of his immigration policy, given my country has spent the past 30 years putting traumatised refugees in camps?
In the worst case scenario, Trump is as supportive of Project 2025 as his critics accuse him of being, and he completely undermines the rule of law, the rights of various minority groups, and emboldens conservative fascists worldwide? The Dobbs decision actually influenced my country to finally decriminalise abortion, and so I'm worried that Trump's rise to power will justify all manner of international human rights and procedural abuses?
Also, I'm one of those people that don't need to live in a country or under a government to feel empathy for the people that do? I'm scared for what this will mean for women, people of colour, immigrants, and climate justice?

The Evil Dead (1981)
"Why have you disturbed our sleep, awakened us from our ancient slumber? You will die! Like the others before you, one by one, we will take you."
#the evil dead#1981#horror imagery#eye horror#gore tw#sam raimi#bruce campbell#ellen sandweiss#betsy baker#richard demanincor#theresa tilly#tom sullivan#joseph loduca#rob tapert#ted raimi#american cinema#video nasty#evil deadology#horror film#thus spake the people. evil dead won my poll on which horror franchise to work through next‚ and somehow this was the one that I'd not seen#a single second of; the entire trilogy (and various follow ups) passed me by. i still felt like i was coming into this knowing it beat for#beat because of the inevitable cultural osmosis you get when a film is this influential and this popular; i knew the plot‚ i knew Ash‚ i#knew what to expect. what i didn't expect was quite how good this was. received wisdom had it that this was the rough first indie film that#was followed by better‚ more polished instalments but i have to say‚ taken on its own merits‚ this is a hell of an achievement#it's immediately apparent both that this isn't just another DIY splatter nasty made to cash in‚ and that right from the get go Raimi was a#highly creative and fiercely original talent. there's no reason‚ if making a cheapy gore film‚ for Raimi to be shooting from behind the#swinging pendulum of a grandfather clock‚ or to include genuinely sweet character moments like Ash and Linda playing a cute game of#avoiding glances whilst he gives her the pendant (and so wonderfully and so darkly inverted later‚ as her demonic form plays the same game#whilst he digs her grave). seriously messed up fx in places‚ very real sense of dread‚ absolutely phenomenal sound design#sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. an absolute masterclass in indie shock horror and a massively fun time

Starting to wonder if you're someone who enjoys my essayposts and thinks stirring the pot might trigger me into writing more. Sorry, I've been essayed out as of late. I'll post reruns.

found another novel i'd never heard of I'm really looking forward to reading! just going to copy from the Penguin site;
"The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas by Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis
A revelatory new translation of the playful, incomparable masterpiece of one of the greatest Black authors in the Americas
The mixed-race grandson of ex-slaves, Machado de Assis is not only Brazil’s most celebrated writer but also a writer of world stature, who has been championed by the likes of Philip Roth, Susan Sontag, Allen Ginsberg, John Updike, and Salman Rushdie.
In his masterpiece, the 1881 novel The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas (translated also as Epitaph of a Small Winner), the ghost of a decadent and disagreeable aristocrat decides to write his memoir. He dedicates it to the worms gnawing at his corpse and tells of his failed romances and halfhearted political ambitions, serves up harebrained philosophies, and complains with gusto from the depths of his grave. Wildly imaginative, wickedly witty, and ahead of its time, the novel has been compared to the work of everyone from Cervantes to Sterne to Joyce to Nabokov to Borges to Calvino, and has influenced generations of writers around the world."

the anon that's so mad needs to recognize that most, if not all, kpop rappers shouldn't even be called rappers. they don't have the flow to rap properly or have the abilities to write good, clever lyrics. most rap parts in songs are just fillers and majority of kpop rappers are given the position because they can't hold a note to save their lives. kpoppies need to understand that speaking fast and having a big lung capacity ≠ good rapping (looking at those compilations of "how many syllables can x rapper rap in x amount of time"). so many kpop rap lyrics are also just gibberish. that's not to say that kpop rap can't still be fun to listen to at times, but let's be objective here. if these kpop rappers were to be thrown into an actual rap battle they'd embarrass themselves and look like jokes.

The Return of the Living Dead (1985)
"I thought you said if we destroyed the brain, it'd die?"
"It worked in the movie!"
"Well, it ain't working now, Frank."
"You mean the movie lied?"
#the return of the living dead#horror imagery#gore tw#horror film#american cinema#dan o'bannon#john a. russo#russell streiner#rudy ricci#clu gulager#james karen#don calfa#thom mathews#beverly randolph#linnea quigley#brian peck#jewel shepard#john philbin#miguel a. núñez jr.#mark venturini#perhaps the single most influential zombie film outside of Romero? i mean you ask someone to do an impression of a zombie and chances#are they'll start groaning 'braaiinnsss'; that's this film! that fully wasn't a thing before this movie invented it! and with one swoop a#piece of pop culture immortality was born. not that that is the extent of this film's gifts: it takes the satirical dark humour of Romero's#colour zombie movies and ratchets it into full on splatstick‚ goofy comedy; there's the killer punk soundtrack; a truly iconic (and epoch#defining) appearance by scream queen Lin Quigley; hugely impressive and atypical turns by older Hollywood figures like#Gulager and James Karen‚ endlessly quotable dialogue... this is the gift that keeps on giving! at times playful and irreverent but not#without moments of real empathy and sharp commentary (the very ending is a truly bravado middle finger to the audience)#tears apart the whole mythos of horror cinema in the 80s but also larger 80s culture and particularly US society#and even more particularly the militaristic attitudes of the Reagan era US government. delightfully waspish but absolutely never#taking itself too seriously. a treat of a film!

It should scare you that the US government is trying to force ByteDance to sell TikTok during an election year, while they are partnering with a certain country to commit genocide under the guise of “self defense”, when TikTok has been such a major center and push for the online ceasefire movement.
It should terrify you, no matter if you think it’s funny to shit on TikTok. They are trying to control the narrative we are exposed to, and attempting to flood American owned companies if they refuse to sell and they succeed in removing the app from the store.
