My Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy 3
(Spoiler free until the cut)
*Rocket’s backstory is the standout part of this movie. Absolutely beautifully and exquisitely done. I cried, and I rarely cry at movies. The voice acting, the CGI of Rocket and his friends, the writing, it was all incredible!
*There were some fun moments between the team! This is definitely Rocket’s movie, but Nebula, Drax, and Mantis have some great scenes. Peter and Gamora take a backseat in terms of screen time.
*Adam Warlock was definitely underused, I kept forgetting he was in this movie. I wish he had more interaction with the Guardians before the very end of the film.
*Cosmo 13/10, she’s a very good girl!
Now for spoilers!
*I was honestly disappointed at the ending. Peter going back to Earth, especially without the other Guardians, didn’t make a lot of sense to me. And him going back to his grandfather was a strange choice. I get that he was Peter’s only remaining earth relative, but we don’t know anything about him outside of one scene in the first movie. I always hate when stories split up the found family for no good reason. The Guardians ARE Peter’s family, blood relation or not. And besides, we JUST found out that Pete and Mantis are siblings, so he has other biological relatives! If they were going to have Peter go back to his grandfather, I would have liked them to visit Meredith’s grave together. I think that would have been more impactful, emotionally.
*I feel like they didn’t really know what to do with Gamora in this movie. No offense to Zoe Saldana, I love her and her portrayal of Gamora. (She’s literally my favorite Guardian!) But I think it would have been better if the alternate Gamora wasn’t in this movie, and they focused more on the team healing from losing her in Infinity War. (And Gamora could still make an appearance in flashbacks or something, kind of like Yondu appearing to Kraglin.)
*As a huge Starmora shipper, I was disappointed that they ended that storyline. I was hoping for a Katniss x Peeta type thing, where they fall in love all over again after one of them loses their memories. However, I’m also glad that they didn’t force them getting back together or one of them falling in love with someone else.
*I really thought Lyla, Floor, and Teefs were going to be able to escape with Rocket. I think writing them off was effective and certainly an emotional gut punch. But I was expecting them to have some kind of falling out after leaving together, and then Rocket finds the others years later and they all reconcile and live on Knowhere together. (Maybe I need to write an AU fanfiction where that does happen, haha!)
*On a similar note, the final scene between Rocket and Lyla was beautiful. However, I wish they would have committed to either killing the Guardians or not. The end of that scene where Lyla told him “not yet” felt like a fake out, and other characters had moments like that too. (Drax and Mantis when they were getting Rocket’s file, Peter almost dying in space…) I get doing a dramatic scene and leaving the audience in suspense of the character is going to survive or not. But Rocket’s should have been the only one, in my opinion, and the others felt a little cheap.
*The music didn’t hit the same as the other Guardians movies! The first two soundtracks are iconic, I literally have the CDs for both of them. But this one didn’t really have any stand out song choices, in my opinion. Save for Dog Days at the very end, which was my personal favorite.
As always, these are just my opinions and you’re welcome to disagree! I’d love to hear what you thought of the movie :)
#also hi hello I’m back I know I haven’t posted in ages!#i was super active in like 2018-2019 when infinity war and endgame were coming out#and y’all were absolutely lovely and so much fun to interact with#i hope some of you are still active! if so hello I’ve missed you!!!#guardians#gotg#guardians of the galaxy#gotg vol 3#guardians vol 3#Guardians of the galaxy volume 3

EXILED NOMAD SERIES
a series of encounters that could have happened between Civil War and Infinity War
Steve doesn't regret going against the The Sokovia Accords. He never would have signed them, he had to be there for Bucky, and together they had to stop Zemo. He doesn't regret anything, but he's not happy that he and some of his closest friends are on the run from 117 116 of the governments of the world. It eats at him. That festering wound leaves a Nomad who's not the Steve he used to be.
And it's this exiled Nomad Steve Rogers you cross paths with.

Listed fandom fun
A bit of random data before we jump into the rankings for listed fandoms …
Since the numbers post yesterday we've had signups for nearly 60 new auctions, bringing the current total to 779. That beats the number of signups for 2016/7, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and puts us withing spitting distance of our record last year of 819. Can we do it? Will we do it? Signal boost FTH posts and encourage others to participate. More money raised for good causes, more fanworks in the world — it's a win/win!
We posted yesterday about the state of our unlisted write-in fandoms (we've had nine new ones since then!). Time to check in with the rankings for the listed fandoms.
At the top of the pack we have:
87 K-Pop * 66 Good Omens 50 Sherlock Holmes * 44 Harry Potter * 37 Marvel * 32 DC * 31 Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed 27 Red, White, & Royal Blue 25 Star Wars * 23 Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
Our first tie is for 11th place -
22 Avatar The Last Airbender 22 Teen Wolf
And after that, nearly every other place is a tie. And which ones are ties for which places can be shifted slightly with just one signup. Or completely upended with two. Where will your fandom land?
Remember that if your fandom isn't here (or in the rest of the list below the cut), you can write it in. Signups are OPEN through Monday!

Preface — My favorite Spy (5)
November, 2024.
Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 5.
How did the MCU shape Natasha Romanoff's character?
In AoU, THE Black Widow — arguably Marvel's sharpest, most capable spy — had her "damsel in distress" moment while waiting for Bruce (not even the Hulk) to save her from captivity. The only female Avenger at the time, Natasha was suddenly reduced to a love interest, questioning her worth as a hero and burdened with shame simply because she couldn't procreate. Who thought this was a good idea? My husband's answer: "A man." No offense.
Now, let's consider how Natasha has evolved in the MCU.
In Iron Man 2 (2010), she flirted with Tony, but earned his respect by hacking a system JARVIS couldn't crack to free Rhodey. In The Avengers (2012), she had a deep partnership with Clint, outsmarted Loki, and found the key to close the portal. In The Winter Soldier (2014), she was as much a protagonist as Steve, building a strong connection with him, even sharing a kiss. Then, in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), the film began with her already involved with Bruce. Yet, their story happened almost entirely off-screen, undermining the narrative principle of "show, don't tell," and diminishing her existing relationships.
If I were Thor, I'd be upset at being the only Avenger left out of Natasha's supposed romantic entanglements.
Jokes aside, the "monster connection" between Natasha and Bruce felt forced and unearned, as did their "romance" — a plot device to tie together two isolated people with no meaningful payoff. Ultimately, it was a disservice to both, reducing them to simplistic, cartoonish tropes.
Then, in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Natasha was forced to choose sides, pitted against close friends like Steve and Clint while trying not to lose her Avengers family. In Avengers: Infinity War (2018), though worked underground, she continued fighting crime alongside Steve.
Finally, in Avengers: Endgame (2019), her death was framed as her "redemption". But really? By this point, hadn't she evolved well beyond her past, proving her heroism time and again — even taking on a leadership role within the Avengers? And why would Steve Rogers — one of the best tacticians ever — send two non-superpowered humans to retrieve an Infinity Stone on an unknown alien planet? The Soul Stone's demand for a "sacrifice of love" was unknown to the Avengers, yet the writers chose Natasha and Clint, who had a deep bond, without any strategic justification.
From a storytelling perspective, sending someone with resilience or cosmic experience like Hulk or Rocket Raccoon would have made more sense. Natasha and Clint — skilled spies — would have been better suited to New York than the Hulk, where stealth mattered. Instead, many of these choices felt contrived and plot-driven rather than organic character growth, making Natasha's sacrifice feel hollow and unearned — designed more for emotional impact than logical consistency. Further, the absence of a funeral added insult to injury.
Sending Natasha Romanoff to Vormir, a mission that essentially preordained her death, without any explanation whatsoever, cheapened her development. From that moment, the plot felt lackluster, the movie lost its meaning, and the MCU lost a fan. But I digress.

Miami Film Fest: Sebastian Stan Set for Precious Gem Award and Live ‘Awards Chatter’ Pod
The Emmy nominee and Marvel alum is being celebrated for his portrayal of a young Donald Trump in 'The Apprentice' and a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery in 'A Different Man.'
BY SCOTT FEINBERG
Sebastian Stan, a best actor contender this awards season for two performances that have brought him widespread acclaim — he plays a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice and a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery in A Different Man — will receive the Precious Gem Award at the Miami Dade College’s Miami Film Festival GEMS event, the fest announced on Monday.
Stan, 42, will be celebrated at an event that will kick off on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 5pm EST, at MDC Wolfson Auditorium in downtown Miami. To begin with, he will sit down with yours truly for a career-retrospective conversation that will be recorded for subsequent posting as an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. Then, the fest will present him with his award.
The Precious Gem Award is the festival’s signature award, reserved for “one-of-a-kind artists whose contributions to cinema are lasting and unforgettable.” Past recipients include Pedro Almodóvar, Penélope Cruz, Isabelle Huppert, Rita Moreno, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Patricia Clarkson.
“We are thrilled to honor Sebastian Stan with our prestigious Precious Gem Award to celebrate his impressive acting achievements, including his transformative performances in this year’s The Apprentice and A Different Man,” Lauren Cohen, the fest’s programming director, said in a statement. “We’re also excited to partner with The Hollywood Reporter to bring Scott Feinberg and the celebrated Awards Chatter podcast to Miami.”
Stan is perhaps best known for playing Bucky Barnes in seven beloved Marvel films: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Ant-Man (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019). He has also done additional standout work in films such as I, Tonya (2017), Destroyer (2018) and Dumb Money (2023), and received a Critics Choice Award nomination for the limited series Political Animals (2012) and an Emmy nomination for the limited series Pam & Tommy (2022).
For A Different Man, which he also exexcutive produced, he was awarded the Silver Bear for best leading performance at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
This year’s Miami Film Festival GEMS event will run Oct. 30-Nov. 3.

MCU 2024 Rewatch MASTERPOST: yeah sure why not
Fuck it, guess we're doing this! I, in the year of our lord 2024, am watching my way through the full MCU, in release order. Just that kind of masochist I guess. And because this is the Masochism And Schadenfreude website, you all get to watch!
One of the reasons I'm doing this is because I actually really want to track where it feels like the MCU went wrong. I saw the original Iron Man in theaters in 2008 (twice!), and it was genre-defining in several ways that seem very distant after sixteen years and thirty-some-odd movies. We all watched these for a reason! Time to figure out what it was and also where it got lost.
Note: for now we're skipping the various TV shows, Agents of SHIELD, the assorted Netflix miniseries, Agent Carter...it is Too Much and unlike Twitch reacters, I ain't getting paid for this shit. We're also skipping The Incredible Hulk. Fight me on it.
I have seen...some of these. Pretty much everything through Civil War, and then most things through Infinity War, and basically nothing since then. So it's also going to be interesting to see how future knowledge impacts some of the earlier movies, and then y'all are going to get my actual reactions to the later movies. Which I'm sure will be fun for SOMEBODY.
Anyway I'll be tagging everything as C Watches MCU 2024, and I'll link below on the list after the readmore as reactions happen. Hopefully this whole list will keep me honest!
(oh god there are 32 movies on this list even skipping the Hulk. why am I doing this to myself. what have I begun. why.)
Iron Man (2008)
The Incredible Hulk (2008) THIS DOES NOT COUNT AND I'M NOT DOING IT

-debby ryans at you- how are you feeling about that thunderbolts* trailer, snookums. your old blog is trying to crawl from its grave.
you are an unhinged rat for sending me this ask i hope you know <3 you already knew that but i'm telling you anyway bc you're a rat bc now i have to explain myself-
this is from @eebuckley my partner <3 i've alluded to it in the tags of this blog but i used to be a semi-popular MCU blogger from like 2018 to 2020. (semi-popular for the ship i wrote, anyway) and since like, probably Infinity War/Endgame i have been slowly more and more disillusioned by the MCU ranging from only passively being interested in projects to outright despising them if i saw them. which sort of sucks, given how much i loved the MCU at it's height. i was like. aggressively into it. like a "i had asthma attacks watching trailers bc i got so excited" level of into it. maybe cringey in hindsight, honestly but yk. whatever brings you joy, ig.
and anyway- my partner witnessed my very real and normal reaction to the Thunderbolts* trailer and now i'm *mad* bc i'm actually excited about it. it made me feel about the MCU a way i haven't felt in years, especially after a lot of announcements that rlly pissed me off.
cannot believe it looks like we might actually get a comics-accurate Yelena and a comics-accurate Bucky. i'm such a sucker for Bucky Barnes, he's one of the only Marvel characters i actually read Marve comics for and i'm forever bitter how badly he got screwed over. if that movie is good i'm going to end up writing fanfiction. probably crossover fanfiction bc over my dead body will i write just plain MCU fanfic. and i'm a Jason Todd/Bucky shipper anyway so i could make it work, i think-
anyway TLDR is i'm excited and i'm mad about it and how dare yo expose me for being an MCU fan on THIS blog. you coulda send this ask to my MCU blog that still exists and i have occasionally used. but instead you *exposed* my ass on my refined DC blog as a filthy Marvel fan. i will be divorcing you again. ty gn ily
#necrotic nuisance#necrotic answerings#necrotic apocrypha#<- tag for this partner#i do have two partners btw#if you see my nonsense with divine-dominion/romeliesinruins#that is partner 2#if you see ee-buckley#that is partner 1#(in order of dating them not ranking them i love them equally they are both my rats.)#anyway if anyone rlly wants to know my old marvel blog you can just ask i don't rlly care atp#i cared when i made this blog to hide it#now i sort of don't. i think it's funnier if i expose it#and i don't *mind* talking about my mcu opinions here per se if ppl ask#but i do try to keep this blog on topic as being dc/batcest#but i've got soem marvel/dc crossover ships i enjoy.#if you're curious the marvel characters i care about in order are#miguel o'hara. bucky barnes. silver sable. nightcrawler.#and i want to get into black widow i just haven't yet#used to read a lot of iron man but i don't as much. still have some trades#and i hold the fraction hawkeye run *very* dear to me as a Deaf kid who didn't have anything else#but as much as i hate the mcu and agree with metas that i feel nothing for the mcu that i used to#damnit if i'm not rlly excited for thunderbolts. which. damnit.#i'm back in the fucking building again#low effort shitpost#idk if i'll manage to answer other asks or if i'll sleep#we shall see
