I have too many wips to start this now however I do have a kanej au swimming around in my head so I’m gonna leave a little poll here to see if there’s interest in the premise and if it’s worth bearing in mind for the future

The premise: in a The Sound of Music inspired story (but warped slightly to fit a more grishaverse-y world and the characters’ backstories), Inej Ghafa escaped her abusers at a young age and was taken in by a Saints’ Convent where she has lived ever since. But Inej has never fit in with the Sisters here, and eventually the Mother Superior determines to find a new path for her. Inej, then, is to be sent to the household of Captain Kaz Brekker to work as a governess for his seven children - with the promise that the Convent is always open for her to return to should she wish.

After the death of his wife, Imogen, several years prior Brekker put his gloves on and never took them off again, distancing himself from the world and his children. Maybe Inej can start to melt the ice around Kaz’s heart - but with mounting pressure on the Kerch nation to ally with Fjerda in the coming war, and the country’s want of the Captain’s military expertise, how long can the happiness they are trying to grow even last?

Questions about the au are welcome, and as I said this won’t be coming any time soon but I have been thinking about it so if there’s interest I’ll add it to my list for the future

Nina saying something about her childhood and Kaz just replying with "wow being an orphan child must have been real sad for you" and the Crows all just stare at him like "wtf dude" and he just kinda stares at them like "what I was just joking ya know like we do" and Jesper sits his hand on Kaz's shoulder and looks and to his eyes and reminds him that "dude you ARE an orphan" and Kaz just does one of those slow sleepy cat blinks, not connecting the dots at all before realizing "oh shit. you right" cause Kaz totally would be that way when he's sleep deprived like that and he totally DOES NOT think of Colm, Marya and Inej's mom and dad as his parents now. nope. not at all.

Kaz Inej Jesper and Nina got sent there (court ordered) together after causing problems at their last school (all Kaz's fault of course)

Matty is a delinquent obvi

Wylan is sent there to be rid of and registered under ‘Hendriks’ to avoid bad press

Colm shows up on weekends and takes them all out to lunch

Kaz and Jesper are roommates at first but then they keep causing problems so they get separated and Kaz gets stuck with Matthias and Jesper ends up with Wylan

You know, when I was reading Six of Crows, I thought Kaz would be my favourite character. But, by the end of the book, Matthias had grown on me. And Jesper surprised me at the end. I won't say spoilers for those that haven't read it.

so funny to me how Inej when she was freed from the Menagerie had a sort of inkling what Kaz or Per Haskell wanted her to do based on her previous experiences but as it turns out Kaz is like
