Eine Zeichnung vom Sonntag, diesmal die alten Speicher im Magdeburger Industriehafen. Das rostige Gebilde, das im Vordergrund den Blick auf das Gebäude versperrt, ist das vergammelte Heck des Kettenschleppdampfers "Gustav Zeuner", der rechts daneben an Land aufgebockt zur Besichtigung bereitsteht.

Das Runde ist in diesem Fall nicht im, sondern vor dem Eckigen, und ich bin im Nachhinein sehr glücklich mit meiner Entscheidung, das den Blick verstellende Objekt nicht einfach wegignoriert zu haben. Ohne wäre das Bild um einiges langweiliger geworden!

Page 5. --- Nothing official has been received from the department of public works at Ottawa regarding the continuation of the work on the Ashbridge Bay harbor by the Toronto office. The work on the ship canal and turning basin in the Toronto industrial harbor district was practically completed, yesterday. The diking improvements which have been under construction for the last four years are acknowledged by all prominent construction men to be one of the finest pieces of harbor work to be found in North America, in this district is situated the British Forgings and other plants of like calibre. It will undoubtedly develop into one of Toronto's foremost manufacturing districts.

At the end of the ship canal is a turning basin of modern type, 1100 feet square. Channel 900 feet long by 100 feet wide provides for the overflow of water from the basin. Between five and six hundred men have been employed on this work by the contractors, the Canadian Stewart Company. It is estimated that the cost will reach $3.000,000, but that the urgently needed improvements will undoubtedly prove their value to the shipping interests in the next few years. It is believed that the city and government co-operating, intend undertaking more extensive harbor improvements during the year 1919.

King of Spider Miles

I was going for 'postcard that the Donquixote Family very generously sends to potential business partners in the shitty little town they chose to reside in, so the people will know what their ruler / local mafia boss pirate looks like'

Nah but, I fell for a fictional town that gets almost no screen time at all. I just love that Doflamingo picked a literal garbage dump as his base of operations, sticking his Family into this fortress-looking waste processing plant, allegedly taking in like 100 hopeful but ultimately useless kids as mobster pirate apprentices and then losing all of them because his weirdo brother beat them and threw them in the trash until they ran off crying. What an era.

The landscape of scrap heaps, smoke stacks, industrial brick buildings and the name all speak to my imagination. It's like, Machinarium and Peaky Blinders meets Law's Little Nightmares-esque experience of being a tiny kid in a big hat amongst HUGE monster men. Just very into the Spider Miles vibes and the potential of that place aesthetically.

I also want to know if Doflamingo could use the constant chimney smoke and smog to create sky paths. Just create spiderwebs in the sky all over town and take a little walk.

Severance Episode 2 Unveils Lumon’s Big Lie and Mark’s Importance

Season 2 of Severance is diving deep into the mysteries of Lumon, and Episode 2 delivers some major revelations. After a premiere focused entirely on the innie perspective, this episode flips to the outies, revealing what happened in the wake of the season 1 finale’s dramatic swap. As expected, the answers raise even more questions.

The Big Lumon Lie

It’s no shock that Lumon isn’t playing fair, but this episode confirms that their grand story about the “Macrodat Uprising” leading to societal reforms for Severed individuals is a total fabrication. The celebratory parade and progressive changes we were shown? Completely staged. Lumon forged the evidence to placate Mark and his coworkers.

The reality? Mark was lured back with Milchick’s manipulative charm and pineapples. Dylan and Irving were fired and rehired as pawns to convince Mark to stay. Helly/Helena recorded a coerced apology video, claiming her outburst about Severance torture was a joke. Lumon faced no real consequences, and their deception only deepened the outies’ suspicions.

Helly or Helena?

One lingering mystery from this episode is the identity of the Helly we see at Lumon. Is it Helly R., or has Helena descended to the floor under false pretenses? Helena seems isolated and disliked by her father, Senior Eagan, and her reaction to Mark and Helly’s kiss suggests she wasn’t expecting it. Could Helena have taken Helly’s place to spy—or to continue Helly’s relationship with Mark?

Mark’s Pivotal Role

If there’s one thing Episode 2 makes clear, it’s that Mark is the centerpiece of Lumon’s enigmatic project, Cold Harbor. While Dylan and Irving were treated as disposable, Mark was relentlessly courted to return. Lumon even reassembled his old team to ensure his cooperation.

What makes Mark so essential? His work appears mundane on the surface, but flashes in earlier episodes hint at a deeper connection to Ms. Casey/Gemma. The true purpose of his role remains a mystery, but it’s clear that Mark is the key to unlocking Lumon’s grand plan.

Final Thoughts

Severance Episode 2 is a masterclass in peeling back layers while keeping us hungry for answers. Lumon’s lies deepen the intrigue, and Mark’s importance raises the stakes for what’s to come.
