Employers desire foreign workers who are accustomed to the hazardous work sites of industrial construction; in particular, they specifically solicit migrants who do not have a history of labor organizing within SWANA. In response, labor brokerage firms brand themselves as offering migrant workers who are deferential. Often, labor brokers conflate the category of South Asian with docility; [...] as inherently passive, disciplined, and, most important, unfettered by volatile working conditions. "We say quality, they [U.S. employers] say seasoned. We both know what it means. Workers who are not going to quit, not going to run away in the foreign country and do as they are told.” [...]
For migrants, the U.S. oil industry presents a rare chance to apply their existing skill set in a country with options for permanent residency and sponsorship of family members. Migrants wish to find an end to their temporary worker status; they imagine the United States as a liberal economy in which labor standards are enforced and there are opportunities for citizenship and building a life for their family. [...] What brokers fail to explain is that South Asian migrants are being recruited as guest workers. Migrants will not have access to U.S. citizenship or visas for family members; in fact, their employment status will be quite similar to their SWANA migration.
While nations such as the Philippines have both state-mandated and independent migrant rights agencies, the Indian government has minimal avenues for worker protection. These are limited to hotlines for reporting abusive foreign employers and Indian consulates located in a few select countries of the SWANA region. [... Brokers] emphasize the docility of Indian migrants in comparison to the disruptive tendencies of other Asian migrant workers. [...] “Some of these Filipino men you see make a lot of trouble in the Arab countries. Even their women, who work as maids and such, lash out. The employer says one wrong thing and the workers get the whole country [the Philippines] on the street. [...] But you don’t see our people creating a tamasha [spectacle] overseas.” [...] Just as Filipinx migrants are racialized to be undisciplined labor, Indian brokers construct divisions within the South Asian workforce to promote the primacy of their own firms. In particular, Pakistani workers are racialized as an abrasive population.
[...] While the public image of the South Asian American community remains as model minorities, presumed to be primarily upwardly mobile professionals, the global reality of the population is quite to the contrary. [...] From the historic colonial routes initiated by British occupation of South Asia to the emergence of energy markets within the countries of SWANA, migrants have been recruited to build industries by contributing their labor to construction projects. Within the last decade, these South Asian migrants, with experience in the SWANA oil industry, have been actively solicited as guest workers into the energy sector of the United States. The growth of hydraulic fracturing has opened new territory for oil extraction; capitalizing on the potential market are numerous stakeholders who have invested in industrial construction projects across the southwestern United States. The solicitation of South Asian construction workers is not coincidental. [...] Kartik, a globally competitive firm’s broker, explains the connection of Indian labor to practices of the past. “You know we come from a long history of working in foreign lands. Even the British used to send us to Africa and the Arab regions to work in the mines and oil fields. It’s part of our history.”
Seasoning Labor: Contemporary South Asian Migrations and the Racialization of Immigrant Workers, Saunjuhi Verma in the Journal of Asian American Studies

"India’s announcement that it aims to reach net zero emissions by 2070 and to meet fifty percent of its electricity requirements from renewable energy sources by 2030 is a hugely significant moment for the global fight against climate change. India is pioneering a new model of economic development that could avoid the carbon-intensive approaches that many countries have pursued in the past – and provide a blueprint for other developing economies.
The scale of transformation in India is stunning. Its economic growth has been among the highest in the world over the past two decades, lifting of millions of people out of poverty. Every year, India adds a city the size of London to its urban population, involving vast construction of new buildings, factories and transportation networks. Coal and oil have so far served as bedrocks of India’s industrial growth and modernisation, giving a rising number of Indian people access to modern energy services. This includes adding new electricity connections for 50 million citizens each year over the past decade.
The rapid growth in fossil energy consumption has also meant India’s annual CO2 emissions have risen to become the third highest in the world. However, India’s CO2 emissions per person put it near the bottom of the world’s emitters, and they are lower still if you consider historical emissions per person. The same is true of energy consumption: the average household in India consumes a tenth as much electricity as the average household in the United States.
India’s sheer size and its huge scope for growth means that its energy demand is set to grow by more than that of any other country in the coming decades. In a pathway to net zero emissions by 2070, we estimate that most of the growth in energy demand this decade would already have to be met with low-carbon energy sources. It therefore makes sense that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced more ambitious targets for 2030, including installing 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, reducing the emissions intensity of its economy by 45%, and reducing a billion tonnes of CO2.
These targets are formidable, but the good news is that the clean energy transition in India is already well underway. It has overachieved its commitment made at COP 21- Paris Summit [a.k.a. 2015, at the same conference that produced the Paris Agreement] by already meeting 40% of its power capacity from non-fossil fuels- almost nine years ahead of its commitment, and the share of solar and wind in India’s energy mix have grown phenomenally. Owing to technological developments, steady policy support, and a vibrant private sector, solar power plants are cheaper to build than coal ones. Renewable electricity is growing at a faster rate in India than any other major economy, with new capacity additions on track to double by 2026...
Subsidies for petrol and diesel were removed in the early 2010s, and subsidies for electric vehicles were introduced in 2019. India’s robust energy efficiency programme has been successful in reducing energy use and emissions from buildings, transport and major industries. Government efforts to provide millions of households with fuel gas for cooking and heating are enabling a steady transition away from the use of traditional biomass such as burning wood. India is also laying the groundwork to scale up important emerging technologies such as hydrogen, battery storage, and low-carbon steel, cement and fertilisers..."

Carlos Sainz x Indian!reader
summary: everyone is looking at Carlos at his home gp to win. but Carlos isn't bothered by the pressure, he's too busy looking at you || word count: 1092 || masterlist
REQUESTED by @malvikareader : Carlos and Indian reader meet at Spanish gp and he is mesmerised by her
Tumblr media
It was utter chaos. Everyone was looking at Carlos as the homeboy hero of the Spanish GP, saddled with the expectation to win his home race. He had been dragged from interview to interview by his PR manager but all he wanted to do was have a moment to himself to breathe and relax before the race. Yes, he was driving a Ferrari, one of the top performing teams of the season and Carlos had been one of the few drivers to win a race so far.
You, on the other hand, were having the time of your life in the F1 paddock. You'd been invited by your agency as a PR stunt for your new modelling campaigns. You were infamous, one of the most successful models of your time. Not only were you stunning, you cared about real issues. You were trying to work towards a brighter future, focusing on issues such as climate change and poverty across the world.
Carlos was stuck at yet another interview where they asked him the same questions as the others. He replied with the same generic answer he'd given everyone else, casting his mind away from the interview and subtly glancing around the rest of the paddock to see what was going on. It just so happened to be when you were walking past the interview pen, locking eyes with Carlos.
Whatever answer he was giving began to come out stuttered as Carlos stumbled over his words, utterly captivated by you. The world seemed to slow as you waved at some of the fans scattered next to the track, laughing at something one had said. God, why did you have to laugh like that? Carlos could barely breathe. He wanted to be the one to make you laugh like that, no one else, just him.
"Carlos? Hello?" The interviewer was trying to get his attention and Carlos begrudgingly looked away from you.
"Sorry." He quickly apologised. "Can you repeat the question?"
★--~-~--★
Ever since catching your eye, Carlos had been searching for you in the paddock. No one seemed to know who he was referring to (given the sheer number of celebrities on the grid) but it didn't dissuade Carlos. The race was a couple hours away as Carlos weaved his way through the garage before being stopped by his race engineer.
"Carlos! I think media is looking for you to meet some ambassadors for sponsors and stuff." He explained, pointing to the office area.
"This can't wait until after the race?" He was distracted enough already, he didn't need to add simpering up to sponsors to his list.
His engineer simply shrugged. "Sorry man."
Carlos sighed, takes a deep breath and then makes his way to the media manager's office. To his surprise and shock (and delight) he sees you quietly talking to someone else. Also to his delight, he sees you wearing a ferrari jacket you didn't have earlier, a jacket that had his driver number plastered on the back.
"Hello." Carlos internally kicks himself for just saying 'hello' to the most beautiful woman he's ever seen.
You're first to introduce yourself. "Hi! I'm Y/N, an ambassador for Ray Ban. It's really nice to meet you considering I watch you race almost every week-" You seemed to cut yourself off from rambling on after meeting him.
Carlos only grows more lovestruck. "No problem. You'll be watching today?" He assumed you were but wants any excuse to keep talking to you.
"Yeah." You offer him a small smile. "You'll do great, I'm sure."
"You think?"
Your smile only grows. "Oh yeah. I'll be cheering you on."
"I'll make sure to win for you." He sends you a wink that has your cheeks warming at an alarming rate.
He's pulled into conversation with a few other ambassadors but continues to catch your eye from across the room. Eventually, he's pulled back down to the garage floor to get ready for the race and has to say goodbye to you.
You go for a hug that Carlos greatly welcomes. "Good luck." You whisper to him. "You'll do great."
You end up in the back of the Ferrari hospitality, anxiously watching the race. Carlos started on the second row, working his way through the front runners and navigating a risky pit stop strategy by his team. He had taken the lead of the race six laps from the end, holding off Verstappen until the end of the race and finishing in first place.
The garage went nuts, mechanics jumping up and down with glee. You could hear the crowds cheering for their driver's win at his home circuit and joined in with the celebrations. You find yourself swept with the crowd as they rush down to the podium area to watch the cars arriving. Carlos jumped straight out of the car and into the arms of his team. As the adrenaline began to wear off, he caught sight of you standing by the side of his engineers.
Your face held a look of awe as he walked closer. There were a few stray tears (of joy) in your eyes as you hugged his tightly. "I told you you'd do great."
"All for you." He confessed, pulling away and seeing Charles behind him with a smug grin on his face. "I've got to go but- can I see you later?"
"I'll come to your driver's room, yeah?"
Carlos' smile widened. "I'll be waiting for you."
You watched in admiration as Carlos stood in the Spanish sunshine, soaking in his victory. He couldn't stop his eyes from drifting to you, ignoring the cameras that were watching him and watching where his eyeline kept straying to. Both of you were oblivious to the eyes watching you, unable to look away.
You both met just outside Carlos' room, embracing properly. He pulled you into the room, away from prying eyes and you took your chance, diving forward and pressing your lips against his. Carlos froze beneath your touch, making you regret your actions and begin to pull away to give him space.
Carlos did the opposite, he deepened the kiss, reaching up to hold your face in his hands and pull you even closer. The two of you separated, sharing the same breath in the small room.
"Can I come watch you again?" You whisper into the air, suggesting a future.
Carlos met your eyes with a solemn look. "I wouldn't want anything else. Besides," He joked. "You're my good luck charm now, you can't leave me with bad luck."

when the Empire's researchers realized that the cause of the ecological devastation was the Empire:
Tumblr media
much to consider.
on the motives and origins of some forms of imperial "environmentalism".
---
Since the material resources of colonies were vital to the metropolitan centers of empire, some of the earliest conservation practices were established outside of Europe [but established for the purpose of protecting the natural resources desired by metropolitan Europe]. [...] [T]ropical island colonies were crucial laboratories of empire, as garden incubators for the transplantation of peoples [slaves, laborers] and plants [cash crops] and for generating the European revival of Edenic discourse. Eighteenth-century environmentalism derived from colonial island contexts in which limited space and an ideological model of utopia contributed to new models of conservation [...]. [T]ropical island colonies were at the vanguard of establishing forest reserves and environmental legislation [...]. These forest reserves, like those established in New England and South Africa, did not necessarily represent "an atavistic interest in preserving the 'natural' [...]" but rather a "more manipulative and power-conscious interest in constructing a new landscape by planting trees [in monoculture or otherwise modified plantations] [...]."
Text by: Elizabeth DeLoughrey and George B. Handley. "Introduction: Toward an Aesthetics of the Earth". Postcolonial Ecologies: Literatures of the Environment, edited by DeLoughrey and Handley. 2011. [Text within brackets added by me for clarity and context.]
---
British colonial forestry was arguably one of the most extensive imperial frameworks of scientific natural resource management anywhere [...]. [T]he roots of conservation [...] lay in the role played by scientific communities in the colonial periphery [...]. In India, [...] in 1805 [...] the court of directors of the East India Company sent a dispatch enquiring [...] [about] the Royal Navy [and its potential use of wood from Malabar's forests] [...]. This enquiry led to the appointment of a forest committee which reported that extensive deforestation had taken place and recommended the protection of the Malabar forests on grounds that they were valuable property. [...] [T]o step up the extraction of teak to augment the strength of the Royal Navy [...] [b]etween 1806 and 1823, the forests of Malabar were protected by means of this monopoly [...]. The history of British colonial forestry, however, took a decisive turn in the post-1860 period [...]. Following the revolt of 1857, the government of India sought to pursue active interventionist policies [...]. Experts were deployed as 'scientific soldiers' and new agencies established. [...] The paradigm [...] was articulated explicitly in the first conference [Empire Forestry Conference] by R.S. Troup, a former Indian forest service officer and then the professor of forestry at Oxford. Troup began by sketching a linear model of the development of human relationship with forests, arguing that the human-forest interaction in civilized societies usually went through three distinct phases - destruction, conservation, and economic management. Conservation was a ‘wise and necessary measure’ but it was ‘only a stage towards the problem of how best to utilise the forest resources of the empire’. The ultimate ideal was economic management, [...] to exploit 'to the full [...]' and provide regular supplies [...] to industry.
Text by: Ravi Rajan. "Modernizing Nature: Tropical Forestry and the Contested Legacy of British Colonial Eco-Development, 1800-2000". Oxford Historical Monographs series, Oxford University Press. January 2006.
---
It is no accident that the earliest writers to comment specifically on rapid environmental change in the context of empires were scientists who were themselves often actors in the process of colonially stimulated environmental change. [...] [N]atural philosophers [...] in Bermuda, [...] in Barbados and [...] on St Helena [all British colonies] were all already well aware of characteristically high rates of soil erosion and deforestation in the colonial tropics [...]. On St Helena and Bermuda this early conservationism led, by 1715, to the gazetting of the first colonial forest reserves and forest protection laws. On French colonial Mauritius [...], Poivre and Philibert Commerson framed pioneering forest conservation [...] in the 1760s. In India William Roxburgh [and] Edward Balfour [...] ([...] Scottish medical scientists) wrote alarmist narratives relating [to] deforestation [...]. East India Company scientists [...] [including] Roxburgh [...] went on to further observe the incidence of global drought events [...]. The writings of Edward Balfour and Hugh Cleghorn in the late 1840s in particular illustrate the extent of the permeation of a global environmental consciousness [...]. [T]he 1860s [were] a period [...] which embodies a convergence of thinking about ecological change on a world scale [...]. It was in the particular circumstances of environmental change at the colonial periphery that what we would now term "environmentalism" first made itself felt [...]. Victorian texts such as [...] Ribbentrop's Forestry in the British Empire, Brown's Hydrology of South Africa, Cleghorn's Forests and Gardens of South India [...] were [...] vital to the onset of environmentalism [...]. This fear grew steadily in the wake of colonial expansion [...] particularly [...] after the great Indian famines of 1876 [...].
Text by: Richard Grove and Vinita Damodaran. "Imperialism, Intellectual Networks, and Environmental Change: Origins and Evolution of Global Environmental History, 1676-2000: Part I". Economic and Political Weekly Vol. 41, No. 41. 14 October 2006
---
The “planetary consciousness” produced by this systemizing of nature [in eighteenth-century European science] […] increased the mobility of paradise discourse [...]. As European colonial expansion accelerated, the homogenizing transformation of people, economy and nature which it catalyzed also gave rise to a myth of lost paradise, which served as a register […] for obliterated cultures, peoples, and environments [devastated by that same European colonization], and as a measure of the rapid ecological changes, frequently deforestation and desiccation, generated by colonizing capital. On one hand, this myth served to suppress dissent by submerging it in melancholy, but on the other, it promoted the emergence of an imperialist environmental critique which would motivate the later establishment of colonial botanical gardens, potential Edens in which nature could be re-made. However, the subversive potential of the “green” critique voiced through the myth of endangered paradise was defused by the extent to which growing environmental sensibilities enabled imperialism to function more efficiently by appropriating botanical knowledge and indigenous conservation methods, thus continuing to serve the purposes of European capital.

Daily update post:
The IDF reported using a trap successfully against Hamas terrorists in Gaza, luring dozens of them into a building, which was known as a Hamas command center, and which was then hit. At the same time, terrorists have the option to stay alive, if they surrender. The IDF said in the past week, it has arrested and taken to Israel for investigation over 200 surrendered Hamas terrorists.
One of the arrested terrorists described how Hamas uses kids as human shields when transporting explosives.
I'm never going to stop saying this: the people who truly care about Palestinian kids should VERY MUCH care that this is how they're being used by Palestinian terrorist organizations. Using kids as terrorists is a war crime. Using kids as human shields is a war crime. If these war crimes perpetrated against Palestinian kids don't bother someone, they're not truly pro-Palestinian, they're just anti-Israel.
I mentioned in my daily update post yesterday, that the IDF can now point out the exact networks of tunnels that allowed them to transform an entire residential neighborhood, into a fighting zone. Today, the IDF shared a 3D model demonstrating the findings on the ground, in a visually clearer way, you can find it at this tweet.
If you've been following the news or my daily update posts, then you know that the Yemenite terrorist organization, funded by Iran, started by attacking "Israeli ships" (some of which had no connection to Israel), then laid a blockade to the entire Red Sea for all ships (claiming they're being attacked for sailing to Israel, even though ships headed for Egypt also sailed through this sea), prompting an international coalition of now over 20 countries, and led by the US. Today, a Liberian ship "with a connection to Israel" experienced a drones attack not too far from India. The attack caused a fire, but no person was harmed, and the Indian fleet responded to it. An Iranian official then announced that, "If the Israeli and American aggression will continue, they can expect the closure of even more maritime routes to take place."
The same Iran, which funds an international network of Islamist terrorism (Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis), and which is currently threatening the global economy, not to mention is responsible for every person dead due to the war started thanks to its funding, is holding an international summit today "to help Palestine" (as if there wouldn't have been way more Palestinians alive right now, if it weren't for Iran), and people from no less than 50 countries are participating. Iran should be a pariah internationally, but it's not. That should scare all of us.
The International Red Cross has been repeatedly criticized since the beginning of the war in Gaza, for practically doing nothing for the Israeli hostages, and for having covered up for Hamas' abuse of medical facilities in Gaza. Now, the IRC is proving how seriously it takes this criticism... by appointing as its next director general a controversial senior from UNRWA, the UN agency that helps exclusively the Palestinian refugees. Beyond the clear bias that he would bring to the position, he also is a disputed figure, who had to resign from his UNRWA position, following accusations of ethical abuses there.
I keep mentioning the many fronts on which Israel is being attacked. On our northern border, Hezbollah continues to fire at and destroy Jewish towns, and the only reason you don't hear more about it, is because most civilians have been evacuated, well over 100,000 people. But civilians have been killed there, and the soldiers who are there to protect the border, have been killed as well. Yesterday, a Hezbollah rocket killed 19 years old Amit Hod Ziv (on the left below):
Tumblr media
And two other Israeli soldiers who were killed in Gaza yesterday are 31 years old Tal Shoa (center), and 21 years old Shay Ayali (right), who was a cadet in the officers course. They both served in unit 669, the IDF's search and rescue elite unit, which has operated in many countries around the world to save people when natural disasters strike. Unit 669 soldiers during the war risk their lives, when they go into the worst war zones, to get wounded soldiers out, give them emergency first aid, and get them to a hospital as soon as possible. Unit 669 soldiers do the same for surrendered wounded terrorists.
So far, 140 soldiers have been killed in the fighting in Gaza. In total, from Oct 7 on, 472 Israeli soldiers have been killed, including girls without combat training, who were slaughtered in their pyjamas.
This is 36 years old Lior Atias, and her 6 years old daughter Alma.
Tumblr media
Lior was a veterinary nurse, and a volunteer for Elem, an NGO that helps youth at risk. She was at the Nova music festival as part of her volunteer work, together with a whole team from Elem. Lior is one of three Elem volunteers, who were among the 367 Israelis massacred by Hamas there.

"The main justification for invalidating butch-femme is that its an imitation of heterosexual roles and, therefore, not a genuine lesbian model. One is tempted to react by saying "So what?" but the charge encompasses more than betrayal of an assumed fixed and "true" lesbian culture. Implicit in the accusation is the denial of cultural agency to lesbians, of the ability to shape and reshape symbols into new meanings of identification. Plagiarism, as the adage goes, is basic to all culture.
In the real of cultural identity, that some of the markers of a minority culture's boundaries originate in an oppressing culture is neither unusual nor particularly significant. For instance, in the United States certain kind of bead- and ribbon work are immediately recogniziable as specific to Native American cultures, wherein they serve artistic and ceremonial functions. Yet beads, trinkets, ribbons, and even certain "indian" blanket patterns were brought by Europeans, who traded them as cheap goods for land. No one argues that Indians out to give up beadwork or blanket weaving, thus ridding themselves of the oppressors symbols, because those things took on a radically different cultural meaning in the hands of Native Americans. Or consider Yiddish, one of the jewish languages. Although Yiddish is written in Hebrew characters and has its own idioms and nuances, its vocabulary is predominantly German. Those who speak German can understand Yiddish. Genocidal Germanic anti-Semitism dates back to at least the eleventh century. Yet East European Jews spoke "the oppressors language," developing in it a distinctive literary and theatrical tradition. Why is it so inconceivable that lesbians could take elements of heterosexual sex roles and remake them?
*
It is June 1987, and I am sitting in a workshop on "Lesbians and Gender Roles" at the annual National Women's Studies Conference. It is one of surprisingly few workshops on lesbian issues, particularly since, at a plenary session two mornings later, two thirds of the conference attendees will stand up as lesbians. Meanwhile, in this workshop the first speaker is spending half an hour on what she calls "Feminism 101," a description of heterosexual sex roles. Her point in doing this, she says, is to remind us of the origin of roles, "which are called butch and femme when lesbians engage in them." She tells us the purpose of her talk will be to prove, from her own experience, that "these roles are not fulfilling" for lesbians. She tells us that the second speaker will use lesbian novels from the 1950s to demonstrate the same thesis. And, indeed, the second speaker has a small stack of 1950s "pulp paperbacks" with her, many of them the titles that, when I discovered them in the mind-1970s, resonated for me in a way that the feminist books published by Daughters and Diana Press did not.
I consider for several minutes. I'm well versed in lesbian literature, particularly in the fifties novels, and don't doubt my ability to adequately argue an opposing view with the second presenter. I am curious to see if she will use the publisher-imposed "unhappy ending" to prove that roles make for misery. I also decide I'm willing to offer my own experience to challenge the first presenters conclusions- though I'd much rather sit with her over coffee and talk. She is in her midforties and, although she claims to have renounced it, still looks butch. Even if she speaks of roles negatively, she has been there and I want to hear her story. Then I look around me. Everyone is under thirty. There are a few vaguely butch-looking women present who'd very likely consider themselves to be as androgynous as everyone else, and not a single, even remotely femme-looking women besides myself. I recall Alice Walker's advice to "never be the only one in the room." Quietly, I get up and walk out. I go to no other lesbian presentations at the conference."

Well, imagine that! 🩷💜💙 2
(Part 1)
"Okay, guys! Gather around, it's time for Spin the Bottle!" Gayatri giggles holding the empty bottle, her brown eyes spotted her boyfriend's friends and students from her school sitting around the circle. "Remember, 7 heaven in the closet, when you get picked!"
"Spread out everyone. Oh Miles, you can sit with me." Gayatri said wanting everyone to mix into the circle.
Pav sat next to Hobie, "This is exciting and nerve racking! I feel my heart pounding so hard against my chest!" He turns to his closed friend as he touch his chest to feel his heart raced. "Do you get that, Hobie?" No response from the Spider-Punk, "Hobie?"
The Indian teenager spotted Hobie staring longing at Miles, no surprised there. "Hey," He pokes his punker friend.
"Huh, what were you saying, mate?" The punker snapped out of it for the moment.
Pav grins widely on his face, "Dude, you were staring at Miles, again. Why not ask him out?" He whispers lowly.
"Me, staring at Peter Pan? Nah, I was admiring that tacky painting over there." Hobie lies.
"Come on, man. Why do you deny it so much?" He quietly asked, noticing Miles busy talking to Gayatri. Then, saw Hobie softly smiling at the way Miles would shyly laughs or his big wide addicting smile while talking to Pav's girlfriend.
"It's not easy... I want him to be honest about himself." Hobie admits, "I rather wait."
"Are you sure?" His friend asked being skeptical, "Your the jealous type, dude. I saw how upset you got when he mentions about him and Ganke kissed. Also, will you handle it with this game."
"I'm all for Miles to experience as much as possible, mate. I'll be fine." Hobie casually said trying to shrug off the conversation.
"Okay, just letting you know there's a lot of cute guys and girls in this circle." Pav hums with his eyes around the group, he spotted Gwen talking to a random girl.
"Okay, everyone! We ready!" Gayatri asked out loud.
"Wait! I like to join!" The group looks over to where the voice was coming from, it's a very handsome student from their school, Hari Oberoi.
Hobie's body tensed as he saw Miles gawking at the guy. Hari Oberoi, Pav's Harry Osborn, in the world the teenager boy is known for his good looks and charming gaze. His brown hair in a lazy slick back with gel glistening by light in the room, he got taper fade and clean long stubble beard that suit well on his face. His skin tone brown, eyes almost golden and perfect white straight teeth, with expensive shirt, jeans and Jordans.
"Hari! Okay, just sit around. Guys make room." Gayatri smiles happily, she seems to know Hari through their modeling career, before she got with Pavitr. Many of the girls in the circle were excited to get the chance to kiss Hari Oberoi, he's such a handsome guy and a part time model.
Of course, Oberoi family are rich with all their powerful connections, they had to put their handsome son on a modeling agency. It's one way to keep the family's name on good terms, even if Nalin Oberoi is Green Goblin. But no one knows that except for the Spider Band.
"So, who wants to go first?" Gayatri started off checking to see who wants to go first, she saw know one brave enough. "Okay! Okay, I'll start." She offers, having to spin the bottle first.
It landed on a girl causing everyone to, "Oooohhh," at the two. The teenager girl blushes as she and Gayatri got up to go in the closet and kiss for seven minutes.
"Wow, Gayatri is so brave. I don't know I can do it." Pav said with awe, "My palms are sweaty."
"Lad, you need to relax." Hobie said in a calm tone as he took out a joint, then spoke out loud to the group, "How about some real fun, eh? Anyone do to share spliff?" He took out his lighter to lit up his joint, he did the first puff-puff then pass it to Pav.
Pav gasps, "Smoking! Hmmm..."
"Oh come on, Pav. You either do it or you don't!" Gwen groans.
"Okay. Okay. Fine!" Pav smoke a bit of the joint before passing it around, he started to cough out loud making Hobie laugh.
"You good, mate? Sounds like you took it good." Hobie teased already feeling his high coming, his eyes on Pav with a smirk on his face. The Indian teenager's eyes suddenly turned red already feeling it.
"Whoa!" Pav rub his eyes already feeling weird, "I never gotten high! Is this what it feels.. feeelllsss... fffffeeeeeeeeeellllllssssss...sss like? LYKE? LllIike? Why does that word sound so weird?" He lost his train of thought. "I feel so relaxed and giggles." He hugs Hobie's arm having to snuggle against him.
Miles' watched the two getting all touchy and close, he'll be lying to himself if he says he wasn't jealous. The way Pav happily wraps around Hobie's arm, slowly snuggling against him with his face buried in his crush's chest. The sixteen year old nibble the inside of his bottom lip, he's envious of Pav. To be so openly confident, and speaking his mind, Miles wishes he can do that. It's hard for him to do it.
Soon the joint came to Miles' hands, he felt Hobie's eyes on him. "Gonna smoke it, Peter Pan?" He asked with a gleam in his eyes.
Miles felt bashful, "Yea..." He placed his lips on the crutch of the shared joint, then inhale twice, before exhaling two smoke rings. The group were impressed at him.
"Wow, ain't that a lil neat trick, luv." Hobie smirks widely, knowing Miles had smoke before.
"Nuthin' special." He shrugs feeling a bit glad his crush is impressed.
"Wow, Miles. How do you do that?" Pav asked.
Gwen said, "That's new."
"Me and Ganke always smoke at parties." Miles said, tasting the weed on his tongue. He could feel his high coming- Whoa, Hobie carry some strong shit.
Soon Hari got the joint, then took the crutch around his lip inhaling the product. Soon he blew out a smoke shaped like a jellyfish. "Wow." Miles stood surprised with the other group.
Hobie rolled his eyes, "Show off." He thought. The slick back hair teenager gave sheepish smile as he passed it to the next person.
"How did you do that?" Miles finally asked the guy.
"You do the O method then push it with your hands then you follow it with the ghost method. It's much more cooler with a vape." Hari grins at Miles, having his eyes on him.
"Wow, maybe we need a bong." Miles said.
"Maybe." Hari chuckles showing off his charming smile.
Gwen looks at Hobie with a sly grin on her face, her punker friend looking mad-mad. The way he's glaring at Hari talking almost flirting with Miles.
Soon Gayarti and the other girl came out of the closet with their seven minutes up. The group grins widely at how bashful look. "What did we miss?" She asked.
"We passing around joint, baby!" Pav spoke out first, he noticed her lips swollen from all the kissing. Hobie ended up with the joint then offer to the two that didn't try, "We to give it a go, mate?"
"Sure!" Gayatri said as she take a couple of hits then passed it to the girl she made out. She coughs, "Ohh, wow. This stuff is strong!"
"Only the best." Hobie cooly said.
"Oh Miles, you wanna go next?" Gayatri passed by the joint to Hobie as she went back to her seat alongside the other girl.
Miles' eyes widen having a warm deep tint on his cheeks, "Uhhh- Sure?" He went over to spin the bottle, he's hoping to land at Hobie. He could feel his palms sweating from being nervous.
The bottle spinning around the group. "Who's it gonna be?" Pav asked being excited for his turn the suspends gets him so hype.
The bottle landed on Hari, causing everyone to gasp and oohed with a much louder tone. Some of the girls giggles seeing how two cute boys were gonna make out. "Ooh, Miles!" Gayatri nudges him with her left shoulder, "Look at you being lucky. I heard he's a great kisser."
Hobie's hear that having his body tensed up. Jealousy spikes through his veins, seeing the cocky bloke getting up as he run his hair trying to play it off cool.
Pav gasps, "Even the way he gets up is so cool."
Hari stood with a gleam in his eyes, a perfect smile on his face. Miles got up being shy, "You can do it, Miles." Gwen cheers for him.
Mile gave a weak grin when he got up he didn't realize how tall Hari was. "You ready?" Hari asked him.
"Ye-yeah?" He stuttered being overwhelmed by the part time model, he's more majestic closed up.
Gayatri giggles opening the closet room for them to go in. "Have fun, but not too much fun!" She chimes as the two walks inside the room. Hobie could only glare at Hari, watching their backsides going in the dark room. "Seven minutes in Heaven!"
Miles hears Gayatri after she closed the door behind them, he slowly breathe taking in the room's scent and Hari's expensive cologne. The two were quiet... too quiet...
"Come on, do something Miles! You done this before." He said to himself being nervous. His hands was going to take Hari's handsome's face, until he stopped hearing the teenager's voice.
"Hey, if you're nervous, we don't have to kiss." He finally said.
Miles eyes widen hearing Hari's voice, he sounds so kind? Really off putting with his face. "Oh, um... I'm sorry." The young Spider-man finally said unsure if Hari didn't want to kiss him, or is a straight guy. Good thing, it's dark enough that the other teenager won't noticed his expression.
"No! No, don't apologize. Actually..." Hari quickly turns to Miles trying to reassure him, "I never do stuff like this. I rarely go to parties."
"Oh... have you ever kissed a boy?" Miles asked, "Because I can get why-" Har said, "I've kissed people before, but doing this... it's all new."
"Hey man, it's cool. We don't have to... we can lie." He said hearing Hari sigh in relief.
"Thanks... it's just I thought I would look cool joining, but I didn't expect to be picked so soon. I should've stayed home and play my video games."
"Oh, you play? What kind of games?" Miles asked, he hopes there's games he knows in this world. "I like Street Fighter."
"Oh me too! I'm into a lot of fighting games like Mortal Kombat and sports games like NBA 2K22."
"Sweet. Those games are fire. Do you play Fortnite?"
"Yeah, I'm not good at it. I still have my first generation outfits." Hari chuckles feeling comfortable talking with Miles. "Say... what's your name? I haven't caught it."
"Miles! My name is Miles. Yours?" Miles asked, he already know his name but it's best to be polite and asked.
"Hari. I'm friends with Gayatri, because we have the same agency." Hari casually said, "You know her through her boyfriend, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm friends with Pav."
"How did you two meet?"
"Online. You know him, he's always social."
"Ha, yeah. I don't know where he gets it all. I get too nervous meeting new people, and I still get nervous around my small group of friends. I rather just stay at home and read my comic books."
Miles gasps, "You read comic books! I mean, sorry, man. I just- I'm a fan of comics too. I collect figures."
"Me too!" Hari's eyes widen finally meeting someone with the same taste. "I have five figures in my collection room. I'm planning to buy this expensive Chung Lee one, but I really want to buy some Copic marker set."
"Do you draw? And I collected some stuff like Power Rangers, G.I Joes, and Transforms way back but I do want to get some One Piece ones. Zoro is my favorite."
"You like One Piece!" Hari's eyes gleamed, showing his nerdy Otaku side. "I'm sorry, I rarely get to meet a fan. I normally don't talk to a lot of people... my dad is very strict."
Miles could hear the excitement of Hari's voice washed into a soft bit of sadness when mentioning his father. Yeah, no kidding, he's dad is Pav's nemesis, the Green Goblin! "Well, I can be your friend. Who's your favorite One Piece character?"
"Ugh, my queen, Robin!"
"Ah, nice!" The two sat on the floor talking to each other, then the next thing, they know- Hari cup Miles' face with his thumb softly rubbing against his plump lips. The young Spider-man let him lean over to kiss, soon they were tongue kissing.
Miles could feel his heart pounding against his chest, as Hari took control of their kisses. Their mouths not willing to let each other go, which made him more surprised. He likes this. "Wow, kissing Hari is so different than Ganke." He could feeling his body being excited like all of his worries melted away.
"Mmm." He let out a soft cute moan to breathe slowly pulling away from Hari's lip.
"Heh, that's cute, Miles." Hari went back to kissing him on the lips feeling their salvia parting on their lips. Miles merely took the kiss falling on his back, they were too into it at this point.
Outside of the door, the group waited for the two come out. "They been in there for ten minutes!" Gwen finally said.
Gayatri giggles, "I guess, they are having so much fun."
Pav nodded, "Wow, I didn't know Miles can be so- Hobie, what's wrong?" Noticing his friend going over to the closet with a beer in his hand, he had enough of this.
Hobie roughly kicks the door open without giving a shit, "Hobie! We're in Gayatri's home, you don't kick people's doors like that!" Gwen shouted.
"Gwen, it's fine." Gayatri actually liked seeing Hobie all jealous for his crush, she was hoping for him to do something about it three minutes ago.
Hobie turns to Gayatri, "Sorry, luv. Seven minutes is the rules!" He kicks the door open again having to breaking the latch using his Spider-man strength.
This caused Hari and Miles to jump by the sudden burst of the door being swung open. Hobie had a dark look on his face witnessing his crush being lay on the floor by that fucking wanker. Hari lift his head up being surprised still breathing heavily almost drooling, even his hair and clothes became a bit out of placed. "Huh? What's wrong?" He finally asked.
Miles cover his mouth trying to maintain his breathing after such an amazing heated kiss. He got all hot and bothered, forgetting this was a game. "Hobie?" He finally asked being embarrassed his crush had to look at him like that.
"Aye, you two get out. It's been ten minutes. Having fun, Peter Pan?" Hobie asked a bit more rudely, his tone sounded annoyed.
"Oh shit, right! The game." Hari smiles bashfully, he got up taking Miles' hand to get him up. "Sorry, didn't know it was a big deal."
"No, it's fine." Miles added, he finally show his swollen lips a bit plumper from all the kissing. "You're a great kisser, Hari."
That ticked off Hobie a bit more, he chug his beer, "Hah, right..." They're not together. It's okay for Miles to be polite and flirty with other men, still it pisses off the punker.
So, Hobie did what he do best, he slouch on Miles' shoulder giving a dark glare at Hari already giving him a 'fuck off, he's mine' look. "Luv, are you really that impressed? I feel a bit cheesed off since you haven't got to try," his hand lift Miles' chin up as their lips get closed, "me."
"Huh!" Miles' eyes widen almost feeling Hobie's breath on his lips, their lips being closed until Gayatri playfully nudges Hobie away from Miles.
"HAHAHAHA! You wish! You gotta play the game, Hobie! Miles. Hari, sit back down! We're still playing." She grins widely cockblocking the punker. Miles pouted being disappointed he didn't get the kissed he wanted, but shrug it off having to sit back down.
Hobie grunts on Pav's girlfriend, "Aye, why did you do-" Gayatri's merely smiles having a sort of glare on her face, "That's for breaking my closet door, and you have to play the game to get to kiss Miles!"
"Ugh, hunky dory, mate." The punker grunts knowing she's pissed off at him, he rather avoid her lecture. Lips meet the rim of the glass bottle beer to take another swig of beer, his eyes on Miles.
The sixteen year old Spider-man gave him a sheepish smile and shrug. Better luck, next time! Hobie gave one last glare to Hari, who avoided his gaze. Geez, it's not like he knew Miles' was taken.
The game went on with more twists and turns!

Embracing a Holistic Approach: The Multifaceted Activities of Shree Krishnayan Gaurakshashala
In the heart of India, Shree Krishnayan Gaurakshashala stands as a beacon of compassion and sustainability, embodying a deep commitment to the well-being of cows, community, and the environment. Through a series of dedicated initiatives, the gaushala has transformed into a multifaceted hub where spiritual, agricultural, and humanitarian efforts converge to create a positive impact on society. Here’s a closer look at the diverse activities undertaken by this remarkable institution.
Cow Protection: A Sanctuary of Hope
Home to over 21,000 stray and destitute Desi Indian cows and bulls, Shree Krishnayan Gaurakshashala provides a sanctuary where these revered creatures receive a second chance at life. Rescued through various channels, including police, government agencies, NGOs, and farmers, these gauvansh are sheltered, nourished, and cared for with utmost dedication. The gaushala’s in-house medical facility, staffed by experienced veterinarians, ensures that each cow receives timely and comprehensive healthcare, fostering their well-being and longevity.
Shelter and Nourishment: Building a Safe Haven
The gaushala boasts expansive shelters, meticulously designed to accommodate the growing number of protected cows. These shelters provide a comfortable and dignified living environment, reflecting the institution’s commitment to creating a holy and safe space for gauvansh. Nourishment is another cornerstone of care at the gaushala, where a balanced diet of dry fodder, green fodder, grains, mustard cake, and jaggery is carefully prepared and served twice daily. This holistic approach to feeding ensures that the cows remain healthy, strong, and vibrant.
Medical Care: Ensuring Health and Well-Being
Around-the-clock medical care is a priority at Shree Krishnayan Gaurakshashala. With a fully equipped medical facility on-site, the gaushala is prepared to handle any health concerns that may arise. Ample stocks of medicines and vaccinations are maintained to prevent and treat illnesses, ensuring that each cow receives the best possible care.
Breeding and Training: Promoting Indigenous Cows
The gaushala is actively involved in research and breeding programs aimed at enhancing the genetic traits of indigenous cows. By focusing on disease resistance, adaptability, and milk production, the institution seeks to create a sustainable ecosystem where farmers are encouraged to keep Desi cows. Additionally, vocational training programs are offered to farmers, educating them on the importance of organic farming and the benefits of desi cows and bulls. These initiatives aim to preserve cultural heritage and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

The institution also promotes organic farming, encouraging pesticide-free crops and eco-friendly practices, with a mission to convert surrounding villages into organic lands.
Humanitarian Efforts: Serving Communities in Need

More:
I worked at a place that had ballroom venues for events. Annually, Chipendale dancers had a show at this place. The amount of calls we dealt with for groping, cat-calling, lewd behavior, and general harassment toward the performers and staff was outrageous. This was at a native owned casino in the Midwest where they also had an annual powwow event at which members of rival native gangs would murder each other. Chipendale night was worse than Indian murder weekend. Anyway, they also hosted boxing events and one guy commented once on how sexy he thought the ring girl was. He was evicted for a year. The ladies who molested security staff? No evictions.

As a man, even in the most progressive countries, you are seen as the secondary parent to your child.

We aren't allowed to make fun of fat people, but it's more than acceptable to rip on guys due to their height.

I had a psycho ex that was trying to kick in my door, I called the cops. She left before they got there. She wrote all over my car in lipstick. The cops laughed at me and were like - you afraid of a girl? And told me they couldn't do anything about the lipstick because they didn't see her do it. I would have been in jail for the same shit.
-
I have mentioned this before.. but I have a weird work schedule that gives me several weekdays off. I would take my girls to the parks nearby, and got constant side-eyes and resentment from the haus-fraus and molly-mormon sanity groups there with their kids. I even had the cops called on me twice asking me to prove I had my own kids there.

wanting men that are tall is a matter of preference and can be voiced out loud and is somehow acceptable even though they have no control over it but men on the other hand can't voice their preference in any regard else they'd be cancelled for body shaming.

I'm older: I have only cried at a movie one time. It was the end of Braveheart. My date was turned off. Said it was "not cool". Same girl hit me for not crying when Jack went down at the end of Titanic, said it was "not cool". I decided she was not cool.

The Duluth Model. It states that men are abusive in order to control and women are abusive because they are victims of abuse. Most law enforcement agencies use this model in dealing with DV cases. I was a tray aid (food server) at an elderly home, and I went thru a fitness phase where I lost a ton of weight and gained a lot of muscle. Nearly all of the CNA’s (young and old) would come up and grope me (rub my arms, nipples, back, etc) and talk super flirty about how good i looked. It took a few weeks for the older CNA’s to finally snap out of it and start telling the younger ones that it wasn’t right

When my ex-wife (of a 16 year marriage) had a year long affair before I caught her and we split up. She wanted to not tell anyone that she'd had an affair, and wanted to have an even split on custody and divorce etc. I asked her, "if I'd been cheating on you, would you have agreed to keep it a secret and still let me have 50-50 custody of our kids?" Her answer? "of course not." But like, the way she said it was like, "obviously, cuz you're a man, it's fine to tell everyone about the affair, and for the mom to get the kids." Even, when people did find out there was an affair, 90% of them thought it was me that had cheated. I never cheated on anyone. But cuz I was a guy, then obviously it was me.

I don't think any of my girlfriends have ever bought me flowers. I like flowers.

Women don’t ask for consent. I have a female acquaintance who described something they did to a man that would otherwise be considered sexual assault — but she was joking about how awkward the guy was.

Worked at a hotel in Edinburgh and had to wear a kilt. Cleaning staff LOVED lifting my kilt. I've rarely been out in a kilt but whenever I have been (not weddings) random women will lift it to see. I wouldn't dare lift a woman's skirt. I'm not even that attractive and assume it's much more likely to handsom guys.

My daughter is now 11, but when she was younger, a lot of women were surprised at how involved I was in my daughter's education, medical appts, and her life in general. There is still the double standard where it's assumed the mother is the one who knows all the details of their kids' lives. My wife had a very busy career and so we tried to evenly split all the parenting responsibilities as much as possible. It was amazing at how many places like playgrounds or fun kid stuff where it would be just my daughter and I, and it was assumed I was a single dad or more often that it was my custody time. Fortunately, my daughter looks very like me because I would sometimes get double takes from mom's to make sure I was not stealing some random kid or a pedophile.

Women taking advantage of a male teenager rarely get the same disgust compared to a male taking advantage of a female teenager. It's always an abuse of power and wrong no matter who does it. The double standards for this by teachers are the worst.

If sex with her is not that great that is my fault. If she does not enjoy sex with me that is also my fault.

After I and my wife separated, she took my kid and told the police, CPS, random doctors, etc that I SA'd my kid. When talking to my lawyer, CPS, police, or whoever, the first thing they would ask is if I'm paying child support and am I up to date with it. Only after I assured them that I was would they continue helping me. Now I've gained custody, she has never even bought a pencil for school but still accusing me of BS. Anytime I bring up child support with anyone it's always "we'll get to that later". Why is she allowed to be a deadbeat mom without consequences while I would possibly be in prison if I were a deadbeat dad?

A friend of mine is a male military spouse, no kids. You would think that the military spouse community would be so welcoming as everyone has that in common. Absolutely not, in fact he gets denied access to online support groups because he is a guy. He has 0 support. Many military spouse appreciation events don't think or care about male spouses. He just stopped trying to integrate with the other spouses, or go to events. It is really sad.

Women almost always refuse to acknowlege that men have any problems at all. And when they do acknowlege them, it's like "they're caused by patriarchy, so help us fight patriarchy", and it's like, "no bitch, how about you stop being an ass and have some sympathy for once in your fucking life". So many of men's problems just, don't exist or aren't worth thinking about for women. But when men behave the same way about women's problems, they're sexist.

In rural Africa, FGM is still a modern day practise that sees the labia and sometimes clitoris removed before the child can even stand up or give consent. This painful procedure leads to death in a small amount of cases. This is obviously disgusting. In the Western world, circumcision is still a modern day practise that sees the foreskin cut away or sometimes bitten off by an adult before the child can even stand up or give consent. This painful procedure leads to death in a small amount of cases. This is widely accepted and sometimes seen as a hate crime to oppose. How is this OK?

One double standard that keeps coming up again and again: women's problems are caused by external societal factors ("tHe pAtRiArChY!") that society has to fix, while men's problems are caused by their own flawed internal factors that they have to fix.
She was cutting? It's because society doesn't respect or understand her and doesn't treat her right. Women are already perfect. Society has to recognize that and do better. Teach men that women are hurting.
He killed himself? He must have been fragile and too toxically macho to talk about his feelings. Men should recognize that and do better. Teach boys to cry.

Climate Workers Wanted. (New York Times)
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
Three years ago, Alexsandra Sesepasara moved home to American Samoa, a remote chain of Pacific islands, with her family after more than a decade of military service. She took a job as a water resources engineer for the utility that provides power, cleans up trash and manages drinking water for the more than 49,000 residents of the territory.
But soon after she arrived, she realized that rising seas and worsening storms, fueled by climate change, had brought new problems to her homeland, while exacerbating old ones. Saltwater was seeping into the islands’ fresh water supply, shutting down schools and leading to boil water notices. In December, the issue caused a nearby hospital to close all nonessential services for nearly a week.
There was another problem, Sesepasara said: American Samoa didn’t have enough workers to fix its water issues.
But this summer, the American Samoa Power Authority, her employer, became one of nine entities across the country to receive funding under a $60 million federal program intended to help train workers to combat the growing challenges of climate change.
The climate jobs of the future, experts told me, may mean adjusting how we think of the jobs of the past: Electricians may need to learn to install solar panels, construction workers may need to deal with new engineering requirements and bankers may need to manage climate risk.
“This is a model of us adapting our jobs in real time to the reality and need of the moment,” said Ned Gardiner, a program manager for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Program Office, which is coordinating technical assistance for the grantees.
The funding comes as part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which included hundreds of billions in tax incentives for clean energy and climate programs across the country.
While most of the applications NOAA received for the grant program focused on coastal resilience and protecting marine economies, the agency was open to proposals from sectors like shipping, engineering and finance, Gardiner said.
“Every job will be affected by climate change,” said Lara Skinner, founding executive director of the Climate Jobs Institute at Cornell University. “We look at every sector of the economy, and every sector will have to change. This isn’t some little transition.”
The tax incentives in the I.R.A. could ultimately help fund more than 6,200 projects in utility-scale clean energy and storage and almost four million jobs, according to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, a labor organization educating workers on climate action.
NOAA’s work force program isn’t the only funding for jobs included in the I.R.A. Hundreds of millions of dollars are also available to hire employees in the National Park Service and workers to expedite clean energy projects in rural America, as well as to train a new generation of Indigenous workers through the Indian Youth Service Corps.
Last year, the Biden administration also launched the American Climate Corps to put 20,000 young Americans into jobs addressing global warming.
In the short term, there’s a lot of physical work that can be done to mitigate the climate crisis, like building more flood-resilient communities.
