"I ended up being a little late" (p. 56). Okay, this is brilliant. I'm noticing just how often the narrator is slightly late to a team meeting, and damn. This is the best literary device ever. How have I never spotted this before? It's the easiest way ever to skip small talk, lead-ups, recaps, and all the boring parts of the conversation. The narrator's a little late to the meeting, so as soon as they get there everyone just dives right in. Literally, in this case. I have to remember this trick.

Marco almost dies of blood loss because nobody knows how morphing works and Cassie freezes under pressure. This team needs an Ax.

Love that Ax's reaction to seeing humans for the first time is "Gaaaaah! Fuck! What is that!?!?!?" [shoots it with a dracon beam] And then 10 seconds later is like "Oh wait, didn't Elfangor say something about how Earth is full of furless bipeds? And that they're our allies? Oops."

Also, Ax, bby. He immediately goes "take me to your leader!" and then ignores Jake trying to Homer Simpson into the bushes in his haste to pledge to die for Jake's cause. Poor kid. He just found out his big brother died and he will adopt a surrogate, no matter how much the surrogate in question kicks and screams in protest.

I've always found the detail about Earth being terraformed to match the yeerk homeworld to be one of the most chilling in the series. It makes sense, since that's what humans plan to do to Mars and what England tried on every other country on the planet, but learning about that after a book's worth of the richness of cetaceans' and birds' worlds is a damn gut punch. Plus, it's Cassie. She understands better than anyone what would be lost, if our sun were kandonaized and all inedible species annihilated.

met up with a friend a few nights back over some games. usual catch-up until talks about past nomadic lifestyle came up, then life. then beer. im not usually the type who picks up talk about life. brain can handle small talks, blabs about poorly thought ideas, and mindlessly stupid and fun drunken conversations. that's the usual extent of it. so, this was a curve ball.

its ironic how sometimes life tells you what you need to hear, not through another person, but yourself. your unsolicited advice ends up convincing, not the the other party, but yourself.

the calm talks about life, himalayas, india etc do stir something inside. something chaotic. the type that leaves you restless and pondering even after a few nights, even when the conversations long ended. it put things in perspective though. sort of a gentle nudge, a good reminder.

I went to queer book club today and was lamenting the fact that there's no hangouts in my suburb and I always have to come into town for shit, and someone told me there's a kink club near me that's super queer-friendly so I should look them up. So as soon as I got home I did so, and 1) they're not actually that close to me but they're a little closer than town is, and 2) they have an art meetup happening next weekend! And it's a free event, you bring your own art supplies and snacks, and the sign up thing had options to attend as an artist or as a model, which makes me think there'll be live models to draw???? That's amazing????

As far as I'm aware there's only one place in town that does figure studies, and it's pretty pricey and you have to be on a wait list to go. Doing kinky figure studies would be SO FUCKING COOL. My sketchbook is already full of kinky art studies I did from picture references, it'd be amazing to do that from real life!

I've always wanted to go to a kink thing, because I'm just SO curious. I'd also really love to go to a shibari workshop one day too. But I'm extremely socially awkward, cannot drive, and does not go anywhere at night (because I don't drive), so I just don't know if I can get myself to go to something like this by myself.

You all have no idea how much I'm waiting for this book, and there's a REASON I named the giant road through Tales of Tremaine, The Golden Road, and get into India's influence along the Silk Road - and, you'll be surprised to learn there were many mini branches off/of the Silk Road. The Jade Way/Porcelain Road, you had a full maritime Silk Road (seriously), a Salt Road. So many that specialized on certain things and you could quite literally make an entire life being a specialized bandit along those ways. But, anyways, yeah, I'm so looking forward to this. Idk what I have to do for the publisher to get me an arc cuz...I want this now.
