one of my favorite pieces of indycar lore is beadgate, also referred to as tubgate, and it is TRULY not talked about enough. in case any of you don’t know, here’s a deep dive into the lore.
to really get the full effect you have to rewind to may of 2021. for anyone who doesn’t know all of the drivers basically live in a lot together in motorhomes for the month of may. rossi returns to his bus one day to see that his golf cart had been put up on blocks, had the wheels taken off, and the wheels were now on top of his motorhome; see below:
Tumblr media
so alex, because he’s the most predictable human alive, is furious. he’s determined to find out who did this and get revenge on them. eventually he breaks down sweet baby colton, who originally helped conor with the golf cart on blocks, and colton tells him it was conor.
alex had already narrowed it down to conor, but colton confirmed it. alex even overhears a call between conor and colton where conor is panicking thinking alex is onto them. then alex starts a deliberate plan to get him back and make his life hell. despite being very adamant that he had nothing to do with the golf cart conor is very careful because he knows revenge is coming.
throughout the next week and a half-ish alex tries everything to get conor back. conor is being very careful to lock his bus and car whenever he’s away, and he’s also stopped using his golf cart completely and hidden it somewhere at the speedway. alex is so dedicated to doing this that he finds out who conor was going on a date with that night (because conor was a bit of a whore before his girlfriend), dms the girl on instagram, and gets her in on this prank.
he basically asked her to keep an eye out for his motorhome keys in the car or on him, she says she doesn’t see him, but tells him where they went for dinner. rossi goes to this restaurant, convinces the valet to give him the keys to conor’s car and looks for the keys to his bus, they aren’t there. then, not willing to give up, he goes to conor’s house and breaks in, still can’t find the keys.
finally, he heads back to the speedway and decides he’ll fuck with his golf cart instead, but like i said, conor’s golf cart is MIA. rossi starts a search party for this golf cart, he has everyone he knows, including doug boles (president of ims and conor’s step dad), looking for this golf cart and they can not find it. he calls it off for 2021, but promises that he’s not done yet, and now has a whole year to plan his next prank.
a whole year goes by, it’s may 2022, and because conor is who he is he decides an inflatable hot tub is an absolute need for his motorhome.
Tumblr media
he is so proud of himself for this thing and is showing it off to everyone, and the absolutely diabolical alex rossi sits back and laughs maniacally as everything falls into place.
alex does extensive research (as he does on most things) and finds out exactly how many orbeez it would take to fill the hot tub, and on tuesday morning of practice week he sneaks over to conor’s hot tub, and 4 hours later conor goes to show off his hot tub to someone and finds this:
Tumblr media
conor is furious and on the hunt for who would’ve done this, he, wrongly, assumed that it was done monday night and therefore couldn’t be alex because alex was with him. the whole week goes by, and he still doesn’t know who it is, until the night of the victory banquet when alex drops this:
Tumblr media
anyways this is my favorite thing ever hope you all enjoy as much as i do

Are people mad that Luke Newton has a girlfriend? Or is it something more? A deep dive. Part 2 of 3.
In my previous blog I talked about the mistakes that Luke has made with his relationship and why fans cannot, will not, do not want to like his girlfriend. (Do you guys see what I did there?) - Most people wouldn’t care if he had a girlfriend (or they wouldn’t even know) if he didn’t make a few mistakes along the way.
Mistakes previously stated in last blog:
Making dating life public. Befriending Antonia on Instagram. Always saying he was most like his character. His friends. Social media presence.
Now onto Part 2:
Luke should have been more active when it came to booking new jobs. He seemed to take the summer off before the Bridgerton press tour. While it does make sense that he wanted some time off before he was going on a months long press tour. He floundered in opportunities.
I can’t say for sure if he was sending in tapes and auditioning for anything. Maybe he was and he just never booked anything. But it seemed like all he was concerned about was hanging out with friends and spending time on boats.
I do get that he had just gotten out of a long term relationship and everybody takes that different ways. Breakups are hard and take time to get over. His way was to completely change everything about himself (and yes some of that had to do with getting into character) - from body to personality.
(Personally I prefer when he had a bit more weight to him, he lost all of his ass!) - He was too focused on working his biceps than his glutes.
So now because he doesn’t have jobs booked and the only time he does go do something (LA and Paris), he brings Antonia. This is another mistake! It seems like he just wants to take trips with her and not actually put in the work. Fans don’t want to see his dates, they want to see his talent.
I think everybody and their mothers have had enough of Soho Farmhouse.
All of the outrage could have been avoided if he had just kept everything secret from the beginning or avoided some of the key mistakes that were stated in Blog one. He should have reigned in Antonia and gotten her to stop posting about said trips/dates. People already hated them together and he was apparently content on digging himself even deeper.
Which brings on the InStyle stunt that happened in LA (this was a cluster fuck mistake). People knew that they were together in LA. That would have been fine if Antonia didn’t then post the pictures on social media. It’s one thing to speculate, it’s another to have concrete evidence.
It’s okay to not let people know everything. It’s okay to keep those memories to yourself. It’s okay to post these pictures (that they knew people would be mad about) on a private account.
It’s like Luke thought that since people were already mad, it couldn’t possibly get any worse. He was wrong!
They were posted out of spite, that’s the only logical reasoning why the InStyle pictures happened. Antonia doesn’t have the comments turned on, if she was a kind person, she would delete them, like what is the point of them now? But both of them wanted to make their relationship known, they have wanted to announce their relationship for a long time and they weren't allowed.
The next thing that is completely insane is telling people in interviews how he was young and naive in his early 20s in interviews. This one is a huge mistake and a mistake that I’m not even sure Luke has picked up on. During those interviews people already knew about Antonia, and one of the issues people have, is her age.
It seems like Luke may in fact still be naive. Because the lack of judgement to even say those words out loud is astonishing!
I think Luke has forgotten how to cater to his fans, which in turn has made them question everything about his decisions - which includes who he is dating.
Because of the MULTIPLE mistakes and actions at every turn,  people will never accept Antonia/they weren’t ready to accept her yet. He has made her look like a ‘mean girl’, with no job, flaunting her not-so-secret relationship.
(It sounds mean but it is what it is)
Ultimately the fans were not ready, they weren’t ready for him to go date a much younger girl. They weren’t ready for him to completely go 180 from his character of Colin.
He should have taken a step back after New Years. He saw the backlash and should have stopped and thought about what he wanted to put out into the world/how he wanted to be perceived. Instead he went head strong into it and now I can’t see him ever being able to make Antonia a fan favourite.
It’s like the Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde situation. People hated that relationship because of how it started out. They were never able to get the fans on board, all hope was lost when it came to that.
But his next relationship with Taylor Russell, people loved. Because it had a good foundation. It didn't have the drama. It was brought out with care.
Luke and Antonia’s foundation to the public is non-existent. The foundation literally exploded and they kept on laying bombs.
I don’t think people are ultimately mad that Luke has a girlfriend. I don’t even think they are mad because it’s not Nicola. They are mad because of the ongoing cluster fuck of actions that were made.
If you have again made it this far, thank you so much for reading!
I could probably make a part 3! Hahah
I do want to say that this isn't a hate blog on Luke. I think that he can be redeemable in the eyes of the fans he has lost today (because he has lost some fans). But all of his actions up until this point in regards to his relationship have been wild! It's just mistake after mistake after mistake.

Bed Chem - Pezzy x Reader
Summary: Reader is a famous musician performing their hit song, Bed Chem, with a special surprise at the end.
cw: f!reader, suggestive material
AN: Heavily inspired by @chaos-chloe's fic Juno! Thought I'd try my hand at one of my favorite songs from Sabrina Carpenter, ending pose inspired from the Nashville show!
-
As I was finishing laying my heart on stage during “Lie To Girls”, I caught a glimpse of the security guard at the end of the stage signal to Pezzy with a discreet thumbs up which he returned.
The lights go down low as we all get in our spots for one of my favorite numbers, “Bed Chem”. It’s all about love, sultriness, and embodying the sexiest part of ourselves. My outfit, with the little see-through shawl, is so cute and adds the perfect amount of sexy coverage.
As I hear the opening beats, I get into position laying on the round bed cornered on the stage. My dancers, strutting along with the screen curtains, closing them as we get a little steamy for this next song.
I smile at the camera hidden above me while my picture blooms on the screens to my adoring audience.
If Pezzy’s jaw could drop any farther, it would be on the floor like a cartoon character. He looks to the guys, eyes almost bulging out, in adoration for his girlfriend. The guys were wearing big smiles in support of their best friend, Grizzy patting his back hard out of excitement.
“Bro, look at your girl!” Grizzy says.
“I was expecting a lot but this is even better,” Pezzy said, turning into the widest smile he could muster.
Feeling the energy from the crowd, I wink towards the camera as I began the first verse.
“I was in a sheer dress the day that we met
We were both in a rush, we talked for a sec”
I sang, switching my arm and leg positions to add some alluring energy to my performance.
“You're friendin' me up so we could connect
And what are the odds? You sent me a text”
I sang, thinking about how Pezzy and I first met. I was good friends with Grizzy for a few years due to our music connection, featuring on some of his unreleased beats he was working on. I ended up over their house for a party they were throwing and Pezzy immediately caught my eye.
We talked for hours at that party and the next day, he added me on everything, including Discord, and we got to chatting. A lot.
“And now the next thing I know, I'm like
Manifest that you're oversized
I digress, got me scrollin' like
Out of breath, got me goin' like”
I can’t lie, the second he followed me I did a little deep dive on his Instagram. This line reigns true to exactly how I felt seeing his posts for the first time. How adorable his smile was, how big that mirror is…
As I continue the vocals, I turn to the opening on the bed as the curtains open up to reveal me to the audience for the first time. I am greeted by the roars of screams of my fans.
“Who's the cute boy with the white jacket
And the thick accent? Like
Ooh (ah)”
My brain immediately goes to my love for Pezzy’s fashion sense. His countless jackets, my favorite being his varsity ones, were my inspiration. He always shows up and out when planning his outfits; simple but stylish.
“Maybe it's all in my head
But I bet we'd have really good bed chem”
My dancers (aka best friends) joined me on the bed on stage, pulling off their choreography seamlessly. I join them in the movements, feeling like I’m floating with adrenaline, being able to do the job I love, performing for the love of my life.
“How you pick me up, pull 'em down, turn me 'round, oh, it just makes sense
How you talk so sweet when you're doin' bad things”
One of my favorite lines, I make eye contact with Pezzy right in front of me, signaling a spark between us that is only getting stronger. I hold the contact with him for the next few lines as I get on all fours, seeing a slight smirk on his face.
“That's bed (bed) chem (chem)
How you're lookin' at me, yeah, I know what that means and I'm obsessed
Are you free next week? I bet we'd have really good-”
My girls come file next to and behind me getting ready for the next verse, a cheeky play on words that seems to be in everyone’s head.
“Come ride on me, I mean, camaraderie
Said you're not in my time zone but you wanna be
Where art thou? Why not upon-eth me?
See it in my mind, let's fulfill the prophecy”
The teasing choreography only added to the screams of the audience. Hearing the audience sing my lyrics back to me was even more fulfilling, bringing a sense of joy and fun to humans that want to let loose and embrace our connection of love.
“Who's the cute guy with the wide, blue eyes
And the big bad mm? Like”
I twirl my hair around my finger, finding Pezzy again in the audience, looking for his bright eyes. Every one of our movements are calculated and I especially needed that calculated look to be right on him for this song.
“I know it sound a bit redundant”
I sing, as I drop it low, legs spread, eyes on him. The audience is quite hard to see in this lighting but I think you could see his jaw drop from across the arena. His jaw drop turned into his cheeky smile he does, his tongue caught in his teeth, as he shakes his head at me in disbelief.
But I bet we'd have really good bed chem”
My male dancers joined me on stage, about to take their respective  partners of my girl dancers for the rest of the song, producing their own pretend “bed chem” on stage.
“How you pick me up, pull 'em down, turn me 'round, oh, it just makes sense (just makes sense)
How you talk so sweet when you're doin' bad things
That's bed (bed) chem (oh, that's bed chem)
How you're lookin' at me, yeah, I know what that means and I'm obsessed (so obsessed)
Are you free next week? I bet we'd have really good (bed chem)”
I look around at my girls on the bed with the biggest smiles on their faces as we roll around the bed, hitting the sexiest poses we could think of, hitting each beat as I deliver my next lines.
“And I bet we'd both arrive at the same time (bed chem)
And I bet the thermostat's set at six-nine (bed chem)
And I bet it's even better than in my head (my, ooh)”
During the interlude of the song, we do a little choreography laying on the bed as the camera comes back above us.
Pezzy gives a goofy salute to the boys as he gets over the barricade they were standing at. They all look at him like he was crazy, Grizzy trying to grab his shoulder but decides against it because he knows what he’s doing. Right?
The security guard escorts him to the side of the stage quickly so he can make his big cue. Girls are screaming as they see him being escorted, wondering what was going on.
As I deliver the vocals for the last chorus, we come back to the audience as my girls slowly slink off the bed to go to their stage partners.
I look out at the audience and make out the figures of the guys, minus one, knowing my plan is in action. At this point, Pezzy is backstage, holding the camera that will cast his perspective of me to my enamoured fans.
I am the last one on the bed, getting out of the straddle position I was in. I look in the side mirror and catch the eyes of Pezzy, waiting for his turn with the most evil smile I have ever seen on him. It was one of pride, mischief, and love in his smile and eyes.
I smirk back, milking the situation we are in as much as I can. Looking at myself in the back mirror, I get on all fours and push my butt out to the audience which was met with screams from everyone.
Pezzy sneaks out from behind the set with his camera, making sure to get some good angles (as I told him to do) which are shown on the big screens.
“Oh shit!” As if it couldn’t get more distinct in voices, we could tell it was Droid and Grizzy screaming for us. Puffer just stood astounded that 1) Pezzy is doing this and 2) he’s doing it in front of thousands of people.
He’s in front of thousands of people on the daily for streams, but this? Never would’ve seen it coming.
I mouth ‘Hi baby’ and wave to the camera between my vocalizations before the camera cuts out and the curtains close on the bed.
Only left with our silhouettes, I grab his face and give him a quick but big kiss before doing our rehearsed ending sequence.
I grab the fuzzy handcuffs from under one of the pillows and wave them in his face. He grabs them from my hand and pushes me down on the bed and spreads my legs and moves closer on his knees to me.
Too quickly, the silhouette fades and is replaced by a kiss print to save the rest to imagination.
We ran backstage since I have to go do a quick change for the next segment of the show but not before I planted a big kiss and hug on him.
“You were so incredible,” Pezzy says, bear hugging me.
“Thank you, I really am so happy you did this, you make me so happy,” I say, holding his cheeks.
He kisses me on the forehead as he goes back with the security guard back to their spots in the audience. He was met back with aggressive head rubs and pats on the back for their buddy, ready for whatever more the show has to offer.

Miranda's Messy Year
Consider this a "Miranda After Blake" post to serve as a companion to my "Gavin Before Gwen" deep dive. These messy exes!
Tumblr media
Country singer Miranda Lambert has had her name mentioned in a lot of eyebrow-raising headlines over the years, but I think it's safe to say that her exploits from January 2018 to February 2019 were some of the messiest of her entire career.
It all starts when the country band Turnpike Troubadours signs on to open some shows for the start of Miranda's "Livin' Like Hippies" tour...
January 2018
According to People Magazine, Miranda and Evan Felker, lead singer of the Turnpike Troubadours, begin texting about his band's  upcoming appearance as an opening act on her tour in January.
At the time, Miranda has been dating singer Anderson East for over two years, and Evan has been married to wife Staci since September 2016.
Lambert and Felker reportedly connected via text message in January ahead of the tour. “They had never met and she had started texting him about looking forward to playing together and getting to know each other and maybe they could write because she really liked his writing sort of thing,” says the source. “It started very much about work. He was completely thrilled. By the time he was leaving for tour, it had become a lot flirtier.” During their one-and-a-half-year marriage, Felker and his wife were like “best friends,” says the source, and he was open with her about his texts with Lambert before heading out on the road. “He knew it was flirty and crossed a line with Staci. He showed her the whole thing and felt bad about it. It wasn’t sexual or anything, but he was like, ‘I don’t want to blow her off because this is the kind of money that can change our grandkids’ lives if I’m able to write with this person,’” adds the source. (People)
Tumblr media
February 2018
The Turnpike Troubadours open for Miranda February 1, 2, and 3 at concerts in Washington and Oregon.
When the tour ended, Felker allegedly skipped his flight home to Oklahoma — where Nelson and Felker lived as newlyweds — and continued traveling with Lambert, telling his wife via email, “I’m not coming home this week,” according to the source. (People)
A few days after Evan allegedly tells his wife he's not coming home, Miranda posts a photo on Instagram on February 7, 2018, with lipstick writing on a mirror - "I do this thing called whatever I want."
Tumblr media
Fans notice that Miranda's boyfriend Anderson has unfollowed her on Instagram around February 9.
People Magazine will later report that Evan "blindsided his estranged wife Staci Nelson, 33, with his sudden divorce filing in mid-February — 15 days after he met Lambert in person for the first time." In a conflicting report, Radar Online obtains divorce papers which state that Staci filed on February 28.
Whatever the case, less than a month after Turnpike's first show with Miranda, Evan's marriage is kaput.
March 2018
On March 7, 2018, Miranda posts an Instagram photo from a writing session that shows graphing paper and two cans of beer, including the Modelo brand — seemingly breadcrumbing her secret time spent with Evan.
A source tells PEOPLE that Felker is known to write with that specific type of paper and his drink of choice is Modelo beer. (X)
Tumblr media
On March 27, 2018, Miranda and Evan are spotted together in New Orleans, though the candid pictures and eyewitness account don't come out in the media until later.
At the time the photos are taken by a fan, their relationship, his divorce, and her split from Anderson are all still not public knowledge.
“Miranda and Evan sat down on the same side of the booth,” the witness told RadarOnline.com about their hot and heavy date at the Ruby Slipper Café in the Big Easy on March 27. “We thought it was just a regular couple being cute on the same side of the booth, then we realized it was Miranda!" (Radar)
Tumblr media
April 2018
On April 7, 2018, Miranda's split from Anderson East is announced after weeks of speculation that they had broken up.
On April 15, 2018, Miranda attends the ACM Awards alone. When she accepts Song of the Year for "Tin Man," she says, “Thank you guys so much for sharing my broken heart with me."
Though her recent breakup with Anderson is in the news, no one is wise to her connection with Evan just yet. That will soon change.
On April 24, 2018, Miranda's relationship with Evan is confirmed. People reports they have been dating for "several months." Details very soon trickle out about the overlap with Evan's now-heartbroken wife.
According to Us Weekly, the musicians began “spending a lot more time together” while on tour earlier this year. After nearly one-and-a-half years of marriage, Felker’s wife Staci Nelson reportedly filed for divorce in mid-February. Multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE the couple’s relationship took off after Felker opened with his band for three dates on Lambert’s Livin’ Like Hippies tour in early February. (People)
Staci's father is then quoted by Radar Online about the split:
Nelson’s father exclusively told RadarOnline.com that his daughter is “heartbroken” over the betrayal. “I don’t know Miranda, but from what I understand he was opening for her,” he said. “From what I understand, Evan asked for the divorce. All I know is hearsay, so I’m not going to pass that on.” When informed of Lambert’s man-stealing reputation, he responded, “I don’t like to spread rumors, but I’d say you’re on the right track.” (X)
Amid the swirling drama about Miranda's new boyfriend, her ex-husband posts a cryptic tweet on April 25 that people immediately assume is calling Miranda out.
Below is his tweet and a comment that he retweeted:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Been taking the high road for a long time.. I almost gave up. But I can finally see something on the horizon up there!! Wait!! Could it be?! Yep!! It’s karma!!”
On April 27, Staci posts a picture of herself seemingly crying with the caption: “PSA: If Staci Felker can make it through this week, so can you."
Tumblr media
On April 30, 2018, a detailed story comes out in People Magazine about the entire situation, with a source blasting Evan for his behavior.
Miranda Lambert‘s new boyfriend Evan Felker blindsided his estranged wife Staci Nelson with his sudden divorce filing in mid-February after his relationship with the country singer turned romantic. “The notion that [Felker and Nelson’s] divorce happened for any reason other than that is complete bulls—,” a source close to the couple exclusively tells PEOPLE of Lambert and Felker’s relationship, news of which broke last Tuesday. “[People are] making it seem like, ‘Oh, they got close while they were on tour together,’ as if the tour was six months long, but it was three days, and the first two of those he was still acting like he was in love with his wife,” the insider says, adding that Felker “didn’t even call home the third night.” Felker then “full-on ghosted” Nelson as Lambert shared cryptic posts via Instagram, the source says. On Feb. 7, Lambert posted a photo of her smiling in front of a mirror featuring the words “I do this thing called whatever I want” written in red. The source tells PEOPLE that if it wasn’t for Felker’s relationship with Lambert, “he would be talking to” his estranged wife and wouldn’t have filed for divorce on Feb. 16, adding that “the notion that he was planning to divorce [Felker] before he met her is complete insanity.” But Felker eventually called his wife in late March and “laid it all on the table, like, ‘Surprise!'” the source tells PEOPLE, adding, “He’s always the kind of guy where if he screws up he comes clean.” “He got sucked into it. He’s not a victim; he’s a grown man and should have said no,” says the source of Felker and Lambert, whose split from ex Anderson East was revealed in April following weeks of breakup speculation.
May 2018
US Weekly reports that Evan is looking to speed up his divorce from Staci. A source close to Staci seems to indicate that they think Miranda is behind Evan's sudden rush:
Evan Felker is in a hurry to move things along with new squeeze Miranda Lambert. The Turnpike Troubadours frontman filed a scheduling order to end his relationship with estranged wife Staci on Tuesday, Us Weekly reported. He did so out of fear his ex would 'unduly delay' their impending divorce, the mag claimed. However a source claimed Staci was surprised by the move, as she is just as keen to end things as he is. 'Anyone who actually speaks to Staci knows she has wanted out of this marriage for months,' the insider said. 'Evan is the one who disappeared again and changed his phone number. 'They both planned to end this quietly. StacI has never wanted to go to court and Evan told StacI he did not want to either, so there is probably someone a little more powerful dictating all of this.' (X)
July 2018
In early July, Staci says on social media that she and Evan - who is still dating Miranda - had reconnected recently and had been talking on the phone, but that he had ghosted her once again and didn't return her calls after she had a medical scare.
Less than a week after Staci's comments about her latest drama with Evan, the first photo of Miranda and Evan holding hands is taken in New York on July 18.
Tumblr media
August 2018
On August 2, Staci alleges that Evan had reached out to her again which resulted in an unknown number, who she believes to be Miranda, calling her obsessively.
FYI, if you're crazy and crazy famous, this is how your number comes up. Wife's number doesn't change. Seems problematic. 10 times in one night. #insecure #rightfullyso The Idaho number is my husband. The other … is the person who is tired of him calling home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On August 17, it is confirmed that Staci and Evan's divorce has been finalized.
But just a week after that, an article about Miranda in The Tennessean reveals that she and Evan have split.
People Magazine reports that Miranda ended the relationship because Evan "broke her rules."
“I don’t think it was a dramatic split, but he knew what he was ‘allowed’ to do based on her rules and he broke them,” says the source. “He did something that he knew she wasn’t going to approve of, she assumed he did it and he didn’t deny it.”
November 2018
Three months after her breakup with Evan, Miranda meets New York City Police Officer Brendan McLoughlin who is working security when the Pistol Annies perform on Good Morning America, on November 2, 2018.
Three days later, on November 5, 2018, Brendan's son with Kaihla Rettinger is born.
Once his relationship with Miranda is made public, People Magazine reports that Brendan spent Thanksgiving a few weeks after his and Miranda’s first meeting with Rettinger and his newborn son.
It is unclear if he and Rettinger were still romantically involved at that time, but the source close to McLoughlin believes there was “overlap” between Rettinger and Lambert, as the source claims he “had a history of cheating.” A rep for Lambert had no comment.
January 2019
Miranda and Brendan secretly get married on January 26, 2019.
February 2019
Tumblr media
On February 11, 2019, police are called to a restaurant in Nashville over a dispute between Miranda, an unnamed male friend, and other patrons of the venue.
Miranda Lambert had a heated exchange with a couple dining at a Nashville steakhouse, and things got so nasty she dumped a salad on a woman she says was provoking her … TMZ has learned. Sources close to Miranda say the food fight went down Sunday night at Stoney River Steakhouse, where the singer was dining with her mother and a family friend. We're told an older man started beefing with Miranda's buddy, and things started spiraling out of control. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … cops responded to a call about 2 men fighting, but by the time police arrived at the scene, Miranda and her party were gone. We're told cops didn't file a report. As for why Miranda felt compelled to dump her dinner on the woman … we're told the woman's husband picked a fight with Miranda's friend, which started in the men's restroom with a wisecrack about millennials and their phones. Eyewitnesses say Miranda had to be held back after the man came up to her table and started screaming … we're told Miranda started mouthing off and eventually walked over to the man's wife, got feisty with her and dumped a salad in her lap!!! (TMZ)
In 911 calls obtained by TMZ and The Tennessean, a female employee at Nashville’s Stoney River Steakhouse restaurant can be heard telling a Metro dispatcher: “I have two guests about to get into a fistfight… Miranda Lambert.” “She just ran out the door, and got into it with another couple right here… I’m sorry my manager just said call 911,” the employee explained. In a separate 911 call, a dispatcher can be heard asking what sparked the altercation. “Something happened in the restaurant between these two gentlemen, and another gentleman walked up to her table and started cussing him out,” the employee told the dispatcher. “This is the third time they’ve gotten into it, and now Miranda is trying to hit people, and she’s flipping plates on them.” In another call, a frantic employee pleaded with the 911 dispatcher for help. “There’s an altercation between two guests, and it’s about to get physical,” the employee explained. “Our managers are trying to hold them back but we can’t.” (The Tennessean)
Five days after the salad fiasco, on February 16, 2019, Miranda announces in an Instagram post that - surprise! - she is married to someone that nobody even knew she had been dating.
Tumblr media
In honor of Valentine’s Day I wanted to share some news. I met the love of my life. And we got hitched! My heart is full. Thank you Brendan Mcloughlin for loving me for.... me. #theone
People Magazine will note that it appears Brendan was the person with Miranda during the restaurant incident on Feb. 11:
The male companion who sparked Miranda Lambert’s salad-dumping drama reportedly identified himself as a cop — meaning signs seem to point to the fact that it was her new husband Brendan McLoughlin. The country star was dining at the Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill with her mother and the man Feb. 10 when an older man made a comment about “millennials and their phones” to Lambert’s pal in the men’s restroom, according to TMZ. Video footage obtained by the outlet shows Lambert’s male companion engaging in a spat with a fellow diner, while a woman recording the fight observes, “The guy that she’s with is very young…”
Shortly after Miranda's surprise marriage news, reports about Brendan's newborn son and the sketchy context surrounding his romantic life start to emerge.
Wedding bells almost rang once before for Brendan McLoughlin, the New York City policeman whom Miranda Lambert secretly married last month. The NYPD officer, 27, had been engaged to another woman — fellow Staten Island native Jackie Bruno — until just months before marrying Lambert, PEOPLE confirms. He proposed to his now ex-fiancée with a 1.21-carat, round, brilliant cut diamond ring, set in an 18-carat white gold band, a source close to McLoughlin tells PEOPLE. The ring and matching wedding band were worth approximately $15,000, according to documents viewed by PEOPLE. McLoughlin and Bruno’s relationship ended when Kaihla Rettinger, the mother of McLoughlin’s son, messaged his former fiancée to let Bruno know Rettinger was seven months pregnant with the police officer’s child and had been living with him and his family, the source reveals. McLoughlin’s son was born on Nov. 5, three days after he met Lambert, 35. Rettinger had no comment when reached by PEOPLE.
The mother of Brendan's ex-fiancee also speaks to the press:
"She was engaged to Brendan and he cheated on her and got another girl pregnant," Jackie's mom Carol Bruno told Us Weekly. "It's all true." Carol added, "Jackie was in Sweden playing professional soccer, got injured and came home and the girl contacted her. She broke the news to her. [Brendan] tried to deny it and then begged her to stay with him. "She was only going for a few months to play, he was begging her to marry him before she left, even though he knew the girl was pregnant." (E Online)
When Staci Felker is asked in Instagram stories about her thoughts on Miranda's quickie wedding, her comment foreshadows an inevitable reconciliation with Evan:
"I did think the dress was really pretty and I wish she would call me and tell me how it was so easy for her to get over my ex because it hasn't been so easy for me."
As for Blake, People Magazine claims a source close to him says the following:
“He put Miranda in his rear view mirror long ago. Miranda brings nothing positive to his life,” says the source. “Their marriage ended and he moved on. Ever since, he is grateful every day.”
June 2020
Two and a half years after their split, Evan and Staci get remarried on June 24, 2020.
Tumblr media
In the book Red Dirt, excerpted by Rolling Stone in August 2020, Evan Felker said that he had reprioritized his life after trying to get sober:
"First and foremost, I found sobriety and recovery," he said. "And I stepped away from the road and got a clearer view of the world. I got back to just being me."
They have gone on to have two children together, a daughter and son.
In the years following, Staci has lightly addressed the topic here and there. On this Instagram story from 2022, she says it feels like it all happened to someone else:
Tumblr media
As for Miranda and Brendan, though both engaged in pretty messy behavior in 2018, since announcing their marriage they have kept a pretty clean profile.
The only semi-scandals they have added to their resumes seem to have come in the last two years - Miranda's selfie-gate backlash in July 2023, and TikTok gossip about Brendan dancing with patrons of Miranda's restaurant in June 2024.
They recently marked their sixth wedding anniversary.

Late Night Buck & Tommy Rambles: 4 Days Till Tommy Returns
Happy Sunday! We are now only 4 days away from seeing Tommy on our screens again (along with rest of the 118). I'm definitely looking forward to this week for a variety of reasons and I can't wait to see how this kicks off the finale next week.
It was an interesting but pretty calm day in the Buck & Tommy world.
The BuckTommy Hospital kiss reel on Instagram has continued it's burst of views after slowing down for a bit. As of a few minutes ago it was 1094k, meaning it'll likely hit 1.1 million sometime over the next few hours and it's only 25k away from being the 8th most viewed video on their official Instagram. It also has now hit 95k in likes, meaning this burst in views is also coming with new viewers because those likes were pretty much unchanged for a good week or so when it say around 84k in likes. I'm really interested to see if these new views keep up over the course of this week.
The big news of the day was Tim, either late last night or early this morning, posted the fan created BuckTommy Deep Dive youtube video on his private facebook. I've heard through the grapevine the video was sent to him by a fan who is friends with him on facebook but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. If you haven't you watched the video yet, it's a 20 minute breakdown about Buck's past relationships, his bisexuality, the red string theory and why Tommy is potentially going to be a long term love interest. I took two bigs things away from this.
It confirmed to me that the Vertigo poster was likely a fan creation sent to him in a similar way last week so I don't think we need to overanalyze or include that in our theories. So my views haven't changed on that, just been confirmed.
This is a good sign for us Buck & Tommy shippers. That video was really positive towards us and I can't imagine he would post it without watching at least the majority of it. Just like the Vertigo poster, I'm not going to assign a ton of meaning to it beyond him posting something very positively pro-BuckTommy going into this week which is a good sign for us.
I'm not anticipating a lot of promo for this upcoming episode until Thursday itself. I think a lot of promo is going to be saved for after this episode as they create hype for the finale.
My week is much calmer so I do plan to do nightly updates, even if things are mostly chill because I do think we might get some small rumbles since we are so close to the finale week.

Heeeyyyyyy!
First, thanks for being so patient with me getting back to you on this! Life before, during and after surgery has been... oof.
Second... I'll be a wee bit honest. I hesitated to answer because I just know it won't fly well with a lot of fans. But... unpleasant statements and/or opinions are sometimes difficult to share.
(Oh yeah. Note: Not an expert. Definitely not. Just someone who did an intense deep dive on Jensen and Danneel and never surfaced. I'm drowning, y'all, haha. I'm also not someone who will shy away from unpleasant aspects of Jensen or bury it. Even if it kills me.)
That said....
Yes. I do believe he has cheated on Danneel and will again. But... she's also not innocent either.
There's the that have been swirling around Danneel and Steve for essentially the majority of their... 'friendship'. The way she seems more exuberant to kiss Steve. Her intense chemistry and closeness with him.
I mean... in late fall of 2019, there were rumors of Steve and Danneel banging, seen making out, during the ACL fest. She didn't help by pretending she and Steve stayed at an AirBnB, separate rooms. Lord, Danneel... we're not blind nor dumb.*
And then there's the rumor of Jensen having had a fling/one-night stand with a girl during Bacchus of 2019... and that Steve helped cover it up.*
I know Tara and... I want to say anti-leecher... also claimed Jensen had a mistress for years in Canada. (I'm dubious about that myself.)
I know someone tried to claim Erin Moriarty (Starlight of The Boys) was screwing around with Jensen but it turned out those Instagram posts were falsified.
But let's look at the beginning. Way in the beginning.
Danneel was with Riley, right? Four years, give or take. Potentially engaged or were about to be. Then she and Jensen likely hooked up/cheated on their respective partners (though there are some who say Jensen had been broken up by then, but he himself said they were with other people during a convention--but I wonder if he said that to make them both look less bad? I dunno) during filming of Ten Inch Hero.
Then Danneel goes back, moves out of her and Riley's shared apartment without ever saying a word to the guy. Such class! Imagine coming home and your girlfriend's stuff is gone and she never has the guts to say "Hey, we're over."
Tch.
Anyway... then there's... ahem... Danneel's casting couch rumors. She never got a job that she didn't fuck her way into--just couldn't keep those jobs because she can't act.
I normally am one to say "I believe the women",... and I do.... Just not Danneel. I believe Hilarie and Sophia. But Danneel was Mark Schwahn's willing fuck buddy for years. Hilarie practically confirmed it when she said that Mark called her, drunk, and admitted to having an affair with Danneel. What did Hilarie do? Nothing.
If those women were actually friends, why didn't Hilarie and Sophia include her when they came out into the open about what Mark did? Why did Danneel have to do it herself? Because it's not true.
So there's that. There's the chance Jensen might've had a fling or two while filming Supernatural. He's been very discreet, which, honestly, I admire. (Pity Danneel couldn't be more discreet. Everybody knows about her and Steve.)
Now I know, if anyone made it this far, this is going to be a weird statement to make... but this is very typical of Hollywood. Apart from your partner for months... it's very normal. Many a relationship and marriage have been broken up and destroyed by infidelity. More, Hollywood is empty for the soul. There's a reason why addiction is rampant in Hollywood--gotta fill it up somehow.
* - told to me by someone in the industry. I'm willing to believe them.

I have a stupid question. How do you find out about current history scholarship and research? I am sick of reading books I've read a hundred times and were published decades ago. Is there like a forum or something where historians share research or lectures or things?
Not stupid at all!
The key is 1) knowing which sources provide the most up-to-date information, and then 2) using the appropriate strategy to access them.
Conference and lectures
Conferences are where you find the most cutting-edge research – usually work that has not been published yet, or is still in progress. Accessing conferences can be both expensive and difficult (if they're limited to people with certain affiliations, for example), but there are also conferences that are free for the public, and ones run by groups like the Organization of American Historians that are reasonably priced for the digital attendance option. You can browse conference programmes (here is the OAH's 2024 version) to at least find the names of academics relevant to your field of interest, which will help with the kinds of searches you will want to conduct below.
Finding these is a mix of luck and effort. You can set a search alerts on various platforms, literally just do a search for "[topic] academic conference", find relevant organisations and subscribe to their newsletters for updates, or do some browsing on social media. I found History Symposium (free, current, deep-dive history lectures and a virtual conference) because of something shared here on Tumblr. Following the Instagram account of the Powder House in Charleston keeps me updated on their history lecture programming (which host virtual talks including showcasing new research on the US colonial era). Then there are institutions like the Royal Museums Greenwich who publish a range of high-quality historical content on their YouTube account (they have a good series on black history and the Transatlantic slave trade, as well as a fascinating recent lecture by a historian on the queer history of the British navy, which I also found here on Tumblr).
Academic journals
Journals are where you get the most recent published academic scholarship. A journal article generally is a fairly narrow/focused exploration of a topic that adds something new to the ongoing academic conversation (e.g., a new discovery, a new analysis of existing material, a new theoretical perspective, a challenge to a previous author's work).
Other useful kinds of journal content are book reviews, as well as "review" articles, which summarise and synthesise recent research in a field – as well as newly arising questions and research directions.
Getting your hands on articles requires two steps: 1) finding the research, and 2) accessing the research.
Finding articles
For better or worse, the best generalist search tool for journal articles is Google Scholar – it allows you to search across hundreds of databases and independent publishers for relevant content.
If you're a member of a university library (not necessarily staff or student – check if your library allows external membership), it will have its own search tool which allows you to find material in the databases and journals that the university is subscribed to. Individual databases, archives or publishers (think JSTOR) will also have their own internal search.
My advice is to start your search as narrowly as possible, and then expand out slowly if you don't find anything relevant. So, for example, I might start my search with "same-sex relationships london 1780s", and if nothing comes up, I might broaden it out to "england" or "late eighteenth century", and so on.
The other thing to do is follow citations (i.e., who referenced what?). You can travel "backwards" through the literature by looking at the reference lists of books or articles you already have (in other words, which works the author used to base their research on).
But you can also travel forwards – the "cited by x" link below a reference on Google Scholar is your friend, because it shows you who used that particular source in their (by default, more recent) work.
Tumblr media
Accessing articles
Unfortunately, a lot of academic research is gatekept by the academic publishing industrial complex – not by academics themselves, to be clear. This results in those ludicrous charges for single papers:
Tumblr media
(And $30 is hardly the upper limit...)
But hope is not lost! You still have some options if you're willing to do a bit of work.
1) Sometimes, if you're lucky, the article will be freely available online. In Google Scholar, for example, check for the "PDF" or "HTML" link to the right of the title:
Tumblr media
Some entire journals are freely available (usually called "open access") – one example is the Journal of the American Revolution. You can also search on DOAJ for open-access-only articles and journals.
2) I've also occasionally found the article just by googling "[article name] pdf". Some scholars will make these available for free on their personal websites, for example.
3) You can also try contacting the scholar directly through a platform like Academia.edu. Find the article there, and check if there is a "request full-text" option on its page (or, even, if the full text version has already been posted).
4) For slightly older articles, try searching on JSTOR, which gives anyone with an account free access to 100 articles a month. (I say "older", but there's even scholarship from 2024 on there these days.)
5) If all else fails, definitely do not type "sci hub" into your search engine and check there. That would be bad and naughty and very, very sexy of you. I repeat, do not do this. 🤫
Academic books
Books are not usually a great source of super-current research, both because the format doesn't lend itself to it and the publishing cycle can be very long, but they can be an excellent source for a decently recent and detailed overview of the topic. Note that you specifically want academic books here (not the ones in the "history" section of your local chain bookstore).
If you've done some digging in journal databases, you should have a good sense of which authors are writing about the topics you're interested in. Find their websites or social media feeds and subscribe to get updates on their latest work. For example, historian and Tumblr darling Joanne Freeman has a website with links to her books, lectures and podcast, as well as other media. The Museum of the American Revolution has a "Read the Revolution" speaker series featuring newly published books on relevant topics (and they're certainly not the only museum or public institution to do this). Their newsletter will keep you updated on the upcoming sessions, and the website often has a free recording of the talk available.
The prices can be quite extortionate, so again, see if you can find a free version online using the methods above. You might also have some luck finding the book on Archive.org (which might allow you to loan it out for free for an hour at a time) or Google Books (which sometimes shows you a decently large preview). Definitely do not type "libgen" into your search engine and try to download the book form there.
In summary...
There's a lot out there. A bit of persistence and a lot of searching (on databases, social media and the internet in general) will open up a huge spectrum of intereting and relevant resources!

I was kinda thinking about the future of Tommy. We can be sure that the character will come back for S8. Tommy was supposed to be there for only 4 episodes and that he already has been there for more.
As for now, Tommy has been seen in 7x03, 7x04, 7x05, 7x6 and 7x9 and he also was in the Finale.
For one, Lou and Oliver did an interview together and we can assume it's not the only one. You don't ask your actor to do a 5 minute interview in which they barely talk about the show (also I think that the host made the interview awkward and both Lou and Oliver were picking a bad vibe.) Also, this interview was done late this season. Tommy came back in 7x03 and kissed Buck in 7x04. Yes, both Lou and Oliver did interviews but none of them were together and it wasn't on set. As for now, the Access Hollywood interview was the second interview that Oliver did on set, the first one being the Zach show. The rest were by zoom or other facecams ways. As for Lou, it's the only interview that was recorded. Everytime he did an interview, it was for an article and we never had the audio.
Also, Lou does cameo, and if you have a problem with the price I don't think it's his fault I think he put them at the lowest he can but the site up the prices because of the demands. Simple economy lesson, the more there will be demands the less the offer will meet the demands and so in order to change that the price changes. More on the cameo part, Lou has changed the way he does cameo. When he used to talk about Tommy, he would talk freely about him, his cameo would be pretty straightforward and he even made a backstory for Tommy, which I love because as someone who likes to do some deep dives on a character's psyche, the backstory explains a ton. But recently, his demeanor changed. He did a cameo in which he was more vague and kept looking to the sides as if there was something or someone reminding him to "behave".
Another thing, Lou was added in a video the cast did for Instagram. A video that had everyone, minus Peter and Angela, might be exempt from social media because Angela is less active than the rest and Peter is non-existent (Thank you Kenny for giving us proof that Peter is still alive with your Tiktok or Instagram posts). Also, Tim had posted a BTS that was just a frame of Tommy and that could mean something.
But I also want to talk about something, the contract. When Tommy came back, Lou said that he was only there for 4 episodes. And that might be right, at the time. Upon seeing the reaction about Tommy and maybe seeing how well the producers seem to like Lou, his contract for S7 has been extended for two more episodes, including the finale. It doesn't make sense for someone like Lou who keeps talking about how good he feels on the 9-1-1 set to not ask to extend his contract.
But then what would happen in S8? I don't think Lou would or should get promoted to the main cast, regular at least. It doesn't come from some kind of hate for Tommy or Lou, I really like them both, but more in a storytelling point.
The show is a workplace drama meaning that the job is not only important but also kind of its own character. 9-1-1 also focuses on three jobs instead of one as other shows, like The Rookie, Station 19, Grey's Anatomy for instance, tend to do. On 9-1-1 we mostly focus on the 118, LAFD but also on the 911 operator and the LAPD. The show is mostly focused on the 118. Having Tommy as main would shake things up, it would add another station to focus on or have drastically more calls that will need air support but we would also need to introduce other characters from Harbor and I think the show would be too stacked. The only way to properly focus on Harbor would be to maybe have a spin-off focus on them with either Tommy as main character or as regular. Having Tommy a main on his show would cut down on his timescreen on 9-1-1 and thus impact the Buck/Tommy relationship; we saw that happen with Carina/Maya on Station 19/Grey's for instance.
Also if you're one of these people that think that the cast hates Lou. Oliver has only said nice things about him in interviews, Tracie has told that Lou was lovely when she went on live on the 9-1-1 Instagram page and Kenneth has been good friends with Lou since he was in S2. And if you think that Oliver hates Lou because he doesn't follow him on Instagram that would mean that Oliver also hates Tracie and Anirudh because he doesn't follow either of them. On Instagram, Oliver follows only the main cast of 9-1-1 and he seems to use his Instagram as more of a professional account. His posts are mostly show related, contrary to his stories in which he shares mostly his dogs.
Now as the main cast the easier way for them to add a character in the main cast would have them to either work at the 118, the LAPD, or the Dispatch center. It would be less likely to have someone work for the LAPD, the focus is more on Athena and she said multiple times that she hates working with someone. The Dispatch center could work better and we could up certain characters, like Linda or Josh, as main. That would work better. They are already existing characters that the public loves. We need more of them. The last case would have someone from the 118. They could either introduce someone new or push Ravi to main. Which would seem less likely. Anirudh seems to be the busiest actor in the show. I think he also got cast in another show and is also doing other shows outside of 9-1-1. He also seems to keep time to travel outside of work. You go King. Ravi as main would be possible, but it would also shake a lot from Anirudh's busy schedule.
Now, another character that fans have been begging for as main character is Karen. That would be trickier. If we follow my logic, you are free to disagree but be nice! Karen is neither from LAPD, Dispatch or the 118. She's Hen's wife and a rocket scientist. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't see more of her. 9-1-1 always showed us the characters' life outside of work. But since Hen is the only one from the main cast who has no one from her family as main, we saw less from her which is criminal. Maddie is with Chimney and both are main. Same for Bobby and Athena. Eddie and Chris are also part of the main cast, and Gavin seemed to have been pushed a little bit more upfront since he was part of the group promo for the season. As for Buck, for a while he had Taylor who had kinda her own thing and Tommy who also has his own thing.
Buck and Hen are in the same case, they both have their love interests that are not part of the main cast. Buck only Abby back in S1 but it mostly feels like Buck was the love interest since he was nowhere as important as he is now, same for Chimney.
But one thing that we saw in S7 is that Karen can be more important. She was there for when Hen came home after being demoted. Also the Mara storyline felt like it was more of a Karen and Hen than a Hen and Karen storyline and I would love to see more of Karen in S8. Honestly, I feel like she was in more episodes this season than she was in any others.
So now that I shared my thoughts you can share yours. Be nice or you will be blocked. There is too much unnecessary hate in the fandom for any characters and actors. I'm not going to tolerate people's shits.

The other day, I flew to New York, an event that normally occasions an elation only briefly dampened by the humming trepidation of flight anxiety. Flying scares me, it’s true, not that my Instagram profile or frequent-flier status show it. Recent events, though, have ratcheted that worry to something more acute. On January 29th, American Airlines Flight 5342 crashed into the Potomac River in D.C., after colliding with a military helicopter, marking the deadliest airline accident in the U.S. since 2009. Two days later, a medevac flight operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance nose-dived into a Philadelphia neighborhood. These tragedies, whose causes are under investigation, followed decades of deregulation of the airline industry, and understaffing of air-traffic control sufficient to give even fearless fliers pause. Our reinaugurated President, meanwhile, was scything the payrolls of federal agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration. As I brushed my teeth the day before the flight, my dread coalesced into the shape of a meme: Does anyone know if we have airline safety tomorrow?
The meme, in its original form, features an image of a bandanna-clad boy taking a serious-faced mirror selfie, given voice in screaming font that asks, “DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WE HAVE TO BRING OUR BACKPACKS TO THE FIELD TRIP TOMORROW.” With some slapdash editing—slapdashery is part of the charm—others have turned the child’s straightforward query into a template for expressing a memeable malaise, for example, “DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WE HAVE January TOMORROW,” posted during the doldrums of that seemingly interminable month; or, perhaps, alluding to the current Administration, “DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WE HAVE federal government TOMORROW.” Presented without the expected interrogative mark, these questions suggest a tossed-off despondency, retaining the anxiety of the child who seems unprepared for tomorrow’s excursion. The meme’s humor lies in its shallow expressions of deep feeling: existential problems otherwise worthy of metaphysics or high literature here flung out as low-res Internet flatulence.
I doubt anything bad would have happened had I posted my little joke; a few likes, that precious currency of attention, may even have come my way for the trouble. At worst, friends who saw the post might have clucked at my show of poor taste in the face of tragedy and then moved on with their lives. Nevertheless, I didn’t post it. The line felt dumb and flaccid, derivative in an irritating rather than with-it sense, and lacking the transgression found in good gallows humor. What productively blackens such humor is its embrace of dire circumstance, the way it holds terror to its bosom like an old friend. This was not that, nor is much of sociable humor these days, however much it may purport to highlight our frightening moment. Cheaper laughs run rampant, invoking and evacuating seriousness in one limp gesture, smothering any thought or feeling at risk of requiring fortitude. Irreverent is not the word. This strain of humor is not too cool for school; it’s desperate. It says, LOL that’s crazy, emphasis on the LOL, before moving along.
This posture of unseriousness pervades institutional and individual channels alike. It’s Duolingo, the language-learning app, siphoning cachet from the statutory-rape allegation against Drake teased on Kendrick Lamar’s Record of the Year by inviting users to “learn how to play A minor in our music course.” (Drake denies engaging in underage sex.) It’s the State of New York, responding to President Trump’s elimination of congestion pricing with a cutesy message on its official X handle: “beep beep babes we’re taking you to court 🫶.” It’s the countless jokes leaning into the President’s screwy supposition (which one, you ask?) that D.E.I. was to blame for planes falling from the sky. It’s the chatty true-crime podcast “My Favorite Murder” cultivating fans who call themselves “murderinos.” The proper first response to anything is laughter, it seems; nothing impugns one’s taste quite so completely as being told one is “taking it too seriously.” A critic, professional or otherwise, found too solemn in her critique just doesn’t get it. Jokes are safer, forestalling opinion—and thereby contention—by forgoing one. And this attitude rather suits the powers that be in media and entertainment, for whom attention of any kind suffices. (How much of what appears on, say, Netflix is a joke?)
LOL that’s crazy once felt apt as a response to our media environment, a quasi-absurdist means of palliating a 24/7 onslaught of slickly mediated information. But it shows its wear. I have to thank Ethel Cain for noticing. Last fall, the singer-songwriter posted to Tumblr that she felt “constantly bombarded by jokes,” adding, “listen, i LOVE to laugh and i love funny shit but like. we are in an irony epidemic. there is such a loss of sincerity and everything has to be a joke at all times.” Though the post was soon deleted, screenshots found a wider audience among people, myself included, who agreed with her read on our current climate. Our unfunny times are nonetheless rife with laughter, and it’s a laughter that seldom offers relief. When did everything—everything—become ha ha ha? What kind of laugh is this?
Comedy and tragedy have been involved in a long and fruitful two-hander; a faith that the best of one leaves room for the other undergirds the rhapsodies of Shakespeare and “The Bear” alike. The twin pillars of the American comedic sensibility, Black people and Jews, burlesqued their people’s conditions to hysterical effect throughout the past century, metabolizing the times as they went. When Lenny Bruce threatened to piss and Richard Pryor opened his ass, they served up the very shit from which postwar America sought escape in the cleansing assimilation of the suburbs—“a flight from industry and business and money and filth,” as the literary critic John Limon has put it, as well as “a flight from the power of jokes” and all their lowly associations. But people were laughing at what the standups had to say, long and loud and among fellow audience members who were (at least according to America) different from one another. Limon, who is credited with composing the first serious study of standup as an art form, is as fascinated by this collective laughter as he is by the comedy itself. The comedian curls the viewer into the drama of his own debasement, Limon theorized, and the relationship is christened, if the joke works, with a laughter that amalgamates the many into one. This became the hope, and the promise, of comedy as standup exploded in popularity in the latter half of the twentieth century, its cadences absorbed into other realms of American entertainment, from late night to the sitcom. “This eventuality—the comedification of America,” Limon writes, “is the most astounding fact about the American sensibility from 1960 to 2000.”
Limon was writing, incidentally, just a year before the nation would profess to have its sense of humor upended. On September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers came down and broke our funny bone, or so it was said. Comedy made a brief retreat from national life; late-night and comedy institutions such as The Onion went dark. The vacuum was filled with eulogies to irony and cynicism. The thought was that the U.S. had been irrevocably jolted out of a late-twentieth-century posture, an irreverence fomented by an age that understood irony “not only as a sneering overused pose of detachment,” as the literary critic Michiko Kakutani put in a piece for the Times, “but also as a potent weapon for delineating a fractured and frightening world.” Yet any viewer of the nineties film “Reality Bites,” with its scene in which Ethan Hawke coolly recites the definition of irony, knew how available and thus threadbare the term had already become. In an essay from 1993, David Foster Wallace had ascribed the “trendy sardonic exhaustion” among his peers to the increasing sophistication of television. Writers strove to position themselves as more cynical than the idiot box that knew itself to be an idiot box. The effect was “not liberating but enfeebling,” Wallace wrote. Even before 9/11 was said to have killed it, irony was no longer confrontational in its address. It pointed out everything while standing neither for nor against anything in particular. It said, as Wallace ventriloquized, “How very banal to ask what I mean.”
When humor returned to the mainstream post-9/11, it was not irreverent or edgy but grating, jingoistic, and racist, complementing the nation’s earnest reclamation of its tragedy to promulgate American values, which is to say war. “I’m here to give you permission to laugh,” Rudy Giuliani, the so-called Mayor of America, said at a charity event a month after the attack. “If you don’t, I’ll have you arrested.” Har har. America needed to laugh. Laughter was proof of coping, of winning. Laughter was American. It is telling that when “South Park” returned to air, after a hiatus, the show, previously impudent toward the establishment, now joined the rest of media in mocking Arabs and Muslims, and ended the episode on an earnest cheer: “Go America!” The thought was that to meet something with a laugh was the same thing as defanging it, a fearful humor inflated with American self-importance.
As media outlets wrung their hands over the utility of humor after tragedy, though, a burgeoning Internet culture lent no such consideration. Indeed, the digital world persisted as an all-hours laugh factory, with 9/11 providing “an impetus to a new genre,” as the sociologist Giselinde Kuipers wrote, of “cut-and-paste Internet jokes that were shared and spread around the world through e-mail, newsgroups, and Web sites.” Slipshod, crass, and sick, these jokes, dialling in from abroad and at home, were distinct from the humor that had followed other U.S. catastrophes. Their authors didn’t seem touched by the events they digested. The person who created an image of Teletubbies jumping to their deaths from the World Trade Center, evoking Richard Drew’s harrowing 9/11 photograph “The Falling Man,” wasn’t doing so through tears, presumably, nor was anyone who passed the image along. The jokes that proliferated did not seem to be working through a singular grief. Nor were they “difficult and painful, and productive,” as Wallace lauded the “rebellious irony” of postwar fiction that exposed bureaucratic hypocrisies.
No, humor of this sort, as it flourished online, was juvenile and unfeeling. It was smug, resembling the latter-day irony that Wallace associated with TV. So it makes perfect sense that it would be further propagated by the next big thing in telecommunications, the social Internet, where nobody had to be who they said they were, let alone own what they said. Maybe you meant it, maybe you didn’t. Everyone was trying stuff out—a good thing, in life and in comedy, but any speech can get rotten, especially speech one never has to claim. The Internet—that is, the Internet as carved up by billionaires—didn’t invent shock-jocking; it only gave it a better alibi than it had on the radio. Online, jokey provocations feigned a detachment from real life. If friends were calling each other “mein Führer,” it did not make them Nazis. That was just their sense of humor, a dose of online irony poisoning. A decade ago, one such friend, a firefighter trainee named Dirk Denkhaus, set fire to a refugee group home in Altena, Germany. On his phone were racist memes and xenophobic articles and the phrase “mein Führer” used among pals. His lawyer, as reported by the Times, argued that Denkhaus had otherwise displayed no prior anti-refugee sentiment: “It was only online that he’d dabbled in hate.” The irony-poisoned spew the most darndest and heinous things not out of conviction—or so we’re meant to assume—but just for funsies, until evidence shows otherwise.
The diagnosis of online irony poisoning tends to understate the extent to which social media’s rightward drift regulates so much else in life, establishing the terms and the tenor by which we enter that bustling intersection called discourse. The comedification of America has become the memeification of America. Take, for instance, the ultimate Internet troll, Elon Musk, appearing a few years ago as a host of “Saturday Night Live,” a coup that seems quaint, in retrospect, now that Musk is leading Trump’s gutting of the federal government as the head of an agency that he renamed after a meme. The puerile hasn’t confabbed with the establishment so much as replaced it, with the latter’s permission. Jokes mingle with cruel and lethal austerity measures. At the podium during a rally held after the Presidential Inauguration, Musk raised a stiff right arm in what looked like a Nazi salute yet it was laughed off by the Anti-Defamation League as just an “awkward gesture.” This month, Musk briefly changed his profile name on X, the social platform he owns, to Harry Bōlz, a brilliant display of homophonic potty humor that prompted a surge in an obscure cryptocurrency by the same name. This is where America lives and what America does. Nothing is funny, but everything is. And therein lies a sense of impotence, because our ability to discern the consequential ghoulishness of this nation’s policies–LOL that’s crazy!–doesn’t in and of itself constitute resistance. Those who feel they can’t do, laugh.
The inverse of falling Teletubbies and deniable Seig heils might look like a sincere attempt to meet the moment. But audiences, even for art-house entertainment, have gone feral with laughter. Two years ago, I went to my favorite movie theatre in Chicago to see Todd Haynes’s “May December,” a film that is funny in the way that melodrama, in its overdrawn intensity, can be. I enjoyed the movie. I laughed. Others did, too. But it did not feel like we were laughing together. The room was too loud, out of proportion with the film. Toward the end, the character played by Charles Melton attempts to confront his wife, played by Julianne Moore, about the fact that their two-decade-long relationship began with statutory rape; he was thirteen and she was thirty-six. “I’m saying, what if I was too young,” he ventures, to which she replies, indignantly, “You seduced me.” There is something farcical in the retort—an older woman playing child to the man she coerced into sex as an actual child. What was comical about the exchange was the very thing that made it disturbing. In the theatre, though, peals of laughter drowned out Melton’s cries and the scene’s devastatingly anticlimactic end. The tragedy was lost to the comedy, rather than being thrown into relief by it.
Not long ago, the same theatre released a statement about an incident that occurred during a showing of David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet”; instead of treating the film’s “darker material”—including a bizarre, voyeuristic rape scene—“with respect,” the theatre said, patrons had been “loudly mocking abuse on the screen.” There have been similar reports of excess laughter among Broadway audiences at “Cabaret,” especially during “If You Could See Her,” the ridiculous duet with a gorilla that ends on the thud of an unfunny joke, a dose of antisemitism that is meant to jerk the audience back into the realities of late-Weimar Berlin. In each case, humor is proper to the unease—one cannot have their expectations (of a publicized scandal; of an American suburb; of a German night club) unsettled without first getting too comfortable. But each of these works asks audiences to attune themselves to on-the-dime shifts in atmosphere, to the psychodramas thrumming beneath the rituals of ordinary life. And, in each case, the audience seemed to only see a joke.
Laughter is both the easiest and the hardest thing to critique—easy because it is a conspicuous target, hard because taking issue with humor can put you in league with a bunch of pearl-clutching losers. The person accusing another of not taking something seriously might herself be too serious, missing a point best apprehended through the shoulder-shaking discomfort of an inappropriate laugh. In December, when the C.E.O. of UnitedHealthcare was gunned down in midtown Manhattan, an outpouring of online tomfoolery unfolded alongside the news story itself. Humorless pundits in the media were aghast at the crime in a way that seemed out of touch with the grand joke that is American health care, through the fault of people such as the man shot dead. “Fortunately the bullets were classified as preexisting,” a user quipped on Reddit; another declared, “Thoughts and prayers are out of network!” To some observers, the incessant joking was the sort of heartless mirth that social media had been running on for decades. But I have to admit that, for me, the laughs were productive. The death of Brian Thompson and the hilarity that followed placed greater focus on health care than did our last Democratic President, who refused to plainly say whether he would veto Medicare for All if it came across his desk. Rather than holding the thing they referenced at arm’s length, these jokes brought ugly truths close.
In a recent lecture on the visual artist Hamishi Farah, the writer Tobi Haslett wondered what role laughter can play when institutions unmask themselves. Farah had been commissioned to create an art work for the Transmediale festival, in Berlin, which then balked at Farah’s submission: a tranquil portrait of Joe Chialo, Germany’s senator for culture and social cohesion, who has, in lockstep with Western cultural institutions, endeavored to ban criticism of Israel from cultural life. The festival’s withdrawal of the painting, presumably out of fear that it was a work of ridicule, was, Haslett wrote, a laughable “irony of ironies” best appreciated in his contemplative, principled read of the situation. Laughter, Haslett went on, remains “a political question, but also an art question, which is to say that it’s a matter of everyday life.” Laughter does not speak for itself. We must ask after it, and when we do we might find that it has things to say. We ask the universe, as one memesmith did, “DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WE HAVE TO maintain our senses of kindness and empathy despite the world constantly trying to destroy the individual and destroy feelings in impersonal society TOMORROW.” We laugh, but the joke’s on us until we answer, resoundingly—with thought and action, with politics—yes.

begging for someone to do a thorough and critical!! analysis of the intersections of masculinity (toxic and otherwise), misogyny, fan perceptions, the influence of marginalised fans in discussions of players/the game etc. there's so much rich text to discuss and yet so much of the discussion is so shallow. e.g., I think it's a fair point to say players who perhaps are considered more feminine will be subject to different criticisms/abuse (but that in itself ties back to misogyny)
EXACTLYYY!!! like this truly is a very interesting topic and i would absolutely love a good critical deep dive how the misogyny ingrained into ice hockey leads to the phenomenon of male hockey players receiving abuse that stems from misogyny, but thats a topic that absolutely Has To Include Conversations About Women In Hockey.
the conclusion part of that article absolutely kills me
Tumblr media
"it would appear nhl hockey players are becoming less stereotypically masculine in todays game" DOES IT ? ON WHAT GROUNDS GIRL! because some guys hve shed a single tear in interviews? bc a handful of guys have talked about mental health? ( dont get me wrong i am not discounting the bravery and the vulnerability it takes for hockeys to talk openly about their mental health struggles, and i truly hope in the future we have more hockeys (and men in general) go to fucking THERAPYYY bc only good can come from that - but that is not the be all end all of this topic !! )
this is such a frustrating article to read . it like almost hits some good points but just completely falls short due to very shallow and fandom-goggle views. like pls ..tell me about the nhl players whose staues looks "depart from traditonal hegemonic masculinity" and still are sexist and homophobic, and how the cycle of abuse and bullying ALL STEMMING FROM MISOGYNY starts when these guys are small children (the fact that junior hockey and the insane lord of the flies mentalities therein are not mentioned in the article floors me) and just continues to roll generation after generation of players . tell me how the homophobia in the nhl and fear of gay people in locker rooms 'perving' on other 'normal straight' players also stems from misogyny; from men being unable to view women as anything other than just sex objects so obviously any gay man would feel exactly the same towards men, and have no morals, no boundaries and no respect towards the people hes attracted to. tell me how women in the sport have had to claw and scratch their way into their positions and are still laughed at and dismissed . tell me about FEMALE hockey players and the disrespect and disregard they have to endure despite preforming on a level with or higher than their male counter parts! for example: the womens canada team won gold at the u18 world championships and i didnt see a single thing about it on Any of the big hockey news sites i follow on instagram!!! imagine writing an entire article about misogyny in ice hockey and not a single time talking about the pwhl, or any female hockey players At All . AND making me read 'edmonton polycule' within the first three sentences. jail!

The Love Blackout "It's all part of the f*cking story"
Ok, this is gonna be a long post. But hopefully, this will help you understand this very important piece of Kaylor evidence and explain LSK a bit better too.
PS: I'm new to Tumblr, while doing my research I'll tag those post/blogs but I don't know if there's anything else I should do, let me know!
Love Blackout Meaning
So all this Love Blackout discourse comes from those Glitch lyrics:
"But it's been 2190 days of out love blackout, the system's breaking down"
First, let's start by looking at what Love Blackout is supposed to mean:
Tumblr media
"A suppression of information, especially one imposed on the media by the government"
Interesting... a suppression of information imposed on the medias 🤔
Like not being seen/papped together by the medias??? Maybe.
2190 days
Knowing Taylor, she wouldn't use 2190, a very specific number, for it to mean nothing would she??
So what does 2190 days means in years? It's 6 years:
Tumblr media
Didn't she recently talked about a relationship, 6 years AND the medias recently?:
Yes! In her Lavender Haze Instagram Reel! The same where she talked about that scene in Mad Men 🤔
"If the world finds out that you are in love with somebody, they are gonna weight in on it"
"Like my relationship FOR 6 years"
Funny how she didn't say her relationship OF 6 years.
She wanted to protect the real stuff from media, in the last 6 years.
So if you count the days backward since Midnights release on October 21st 2022 it gives you Octobre 22nd 2016.
Tumblr media
The last time Karlie and Taylor were papped together was at Drake's birthday on Octobre 23rd.
But The Love Blackout was not over on Midnights release day.
Taylor and Karlie were still not papped together at an event (they weren't papped at reputation stadium tour, they just posted a picture together). So Midnights release day should count in our calculation. And if you include that day. It ends exactly on Octobre 23rd 2016.
Tumblr media
Before taking a deep dive into this Love Blackout, let's take a moment to talk about Octobre 2016.
Because A LOT of important stuff happened that month.
Octobre 2016
Octobre 11th 2016:
Taylor goes to diner at the Waverly Inn restaurant with Suki Waterhouse, Cara Delevigne and Dakota Johnson.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, Suki posts a table cloth with : "It's all part of the f*cking story" written on it and a "K". She deletes it not long after. But us Gaylors have all jumped on it already.
Tumblr media
Plus, one of Taylor body guard is papped leaving the restaurant with that Table cloth:
Tumblr media
But what story?? What does it all mean??
Let's look at what happened in the days after this event.
I'm sure Taylor had a plan 😉
Octobre 12 2016:
Taylor goes to the Kings of Leon concert with the same friends and some more.
Tumblr media
It's funny because, it's at this very concert, that Taylor is rumored to have started her relationship with Joe.
Tumblr media
Are you starting to see the "f*cking story" they were talking about??
Soure iwanthermidnightz : https://iwanthermidnightz.tumblr.com/post/615953412601823232/in-conclusion
Octobre 13th 2016:
The next day. On a 13th.
Taylor, Karlie and Serena Williams go out at the Bowery Ballroom.
Yes. Yes, this combination of names is suspicious 🤔
Tumblr media
Back to the 2190 days:
So we have established that counting backward from Midnights release and including Midnigths release day. We have Octobre 23 2016.
This was Drake's birthday party and Taylor attended with Karlie:
Tumblr media
The article was published the next morning
In fact, it's the last time ever that they both were papped at an event together: (Love Blackout)
Tumblr media
Two important Kaylor Lore came from that Party:
Golden tattoos "made your mark on me, a golden tattoo"
The Third Polaroid
If we follow the Love Blackout definition : "A supression of information imposed on the media"
We can stop there, everything makes sense, the song ties back to Karlie, that moment and everyone is happy.
But what if there's more to this?
The Blood Moonlit Implication
corneliastvendor did an incredible find: https://kwyw.tumblr.com/post/711447685996167168?is_related_post=1
(I also use picture of their post here)
Stay with me on that one and I swear this will all make sense!
Plus there's a lot to unpack after this.
In Glitch, there's the lyrics: "Nights are so stary, blood moonlit"
Blood moon is a lunar eclipse.
There is even a bloodmoon the Glitch Official Lyrics Video:
Tumblr media
And when was the last lunar eclipse following Midnights release?
Tumblr media
source: corneliastvendor
On Novembre 8th 2022.
If we count the days backward where does it lead us?
Tumblr media
source: corneliastvendor
It leads to Novembre 9th 2016.
Karlie and Taylor last event that they attended together (except reputation) is Lorde's birthday on Novembre 7th 2016.
On Novembre 7th Taylor posted this picture:
Tumblr media
And Karlie posted the same picture the day after on Novembre 8th:
Tumblr media
It's the last post about them attending an event together (beside reputation).
The presidentatial election also happenened on Novembre 8th 2016, and Trump was elected... (I believe this is important).
So the last post of them at an event together is on Novembre 8th 2016. Wich means that the Love Blackout would have started the day after right?
Exactly 2190 days since the blood moonlit night followingg Midnights release.
And something tells me that this specific date is really important in their story, because here's a screenshot of The Man MV:
Tumblr media
The. Exact. Same. Ring. and pose...
Lorde's birthday, is also the first time ever that Taylor wore the Victora Secret Angel Ring.
Tumblr media
source: tilynation
I think she wore this ring there, knowing that they won't be seen together after as a way of being able to flag Karlie in the future.
The VS angel ring is really important and Taylor wore it at many significant events:
All the making of videos of reputation
The Call It What You Want scene of Miss Americana
On Decembre 4th 2019 (Kissgate anniversary)
So last post together before they disappear on Novembre 8th 2016, same day as the US elections.
This ties back to those lyrics: "I recall late Novembre, slowly I said, holding my breath. You don't need to save me, but would you run away with me? Yes"
Remember that in Miss Americana, it's Karlie who says "Yes".
The Love Blackout:
During that time, after Novembre 8th 2016, Taylor is mostly in London...and so is karlie.
Decembre 2016:
Taylor spends the holiday at her in-laws in St-Louis.
Tumblr media
January 2017:
Taylor is in London.
There's a very interesting entry in her Lover Journal that talks EXACTLY about the Love Blackout:
Tumblr media
"I'm essentially based in London, hiding out trying to protect us from the nasty world that just wants to ruin things. We have been together and no one has found out for 3 monts now"
And it is almost words for words her Lavender Haze Instagram Reel....
(Las time they were papped together, in Octobre 2016, Drake's birthday party, 3 months before)
And who was in England during the exact time frame? Karlie!
Tumblr media
I believe the picture was posted a couple of days after.
But regardless, this is important because look at the Swans.
And now look at the Lover Merch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, Karlie did a very cute post that month with Swarovski Swans jewelery:
Tumblr media
Refering the Eye Theory while she was at it!!!
Also, Taylor said in the Long Pond Studio Session that she went to The Lake District a couple of years ago.
Tumblr media
And in Invisible String we have: "Bold was the waitress on our three year trip Getting lunch down by the lakes. She said I looked like an American singer"
Kaylor anniversary is March 6th 2014. So Jan 2017 is close enough to that anniversary.
Plus, 3 years for Toe would have been in 2019, wich doesn't match the "couple of years" of LPSS...
Jannuary 11th 2017:
Taylor is paped going out of a gym in LA.
It's the first time that she is paped in a couple of months.
Tumblr media
And she wears the VS Angel Ring
source: tilynation
In the reputation secret session she explained how she was overwhelmed by this.
"her thought process was less about herself and more about how she could possibly have a normal relationship when this was her life"
Source: https://www.tumblr.com/screamedsooloud/174932790840/i-have-heard-mixed-interpretations-of-dancing-with
She then went directly to the studio and recorded Dancing With Our Hands Tied
She cried for an hour before recording the song.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, like the song says after the Love Blackout part is that the system is breaking down.
And we had some glimpse of this with the Twitter "glitch" that made Karlie repost some of her old Kaylor post. Or her facebook being hacked...
I truly hope they are able to be free soon, they deserve it.

a summary of what has been happening with jungkook showing support to new jeans and basically going against hybe:
yesterday (september 14), jungkook posted on his dog's instagram (bowwow_bam) a photo of his dog with the caption "artists are not guilty" with heart emojis that were supposed to represent new jeans since on new jeans official sns they had used those emojis previously
Tumblr media
some immediately speculated his account was hacked because the post was in english (not even gonna deep dive on that and how wrong that is) and because some armys claimed it was "out of character" for him to do something like this only for like two hours or less later, bighit publicly confirmed that it was him who did the post
Tumblr media
a lot of people were surprised at how quick they made this clear. especially because him supporting new jeans is essentially going against hybe since the girls did a livestream and spoke up about the treatment they have been receiving lately from hybe staff members and how in one instance, hanni said members of a different group were told by staff to ignore her and to not speak to her.
a lot of armys (in various social media), harassed jungkook for supporting the girls and claimed that they "didn't agree with him" and that he was supporting min heejin as well when he only showed support to the girls only.
today (september 15), some hybe staff members on blind (a platform used by employees where they can anonymously share information), were ridiculing jungkook for supporting new jeans and kept saying how him doing this is gonna ruin the company
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
people claimed that after a few hours, these posts were posted on blind, the posts started to get deleted since they gained so much attention and they started to get caught
this is another reminder that this company doesn't care about their artists and will throw them under the bus whenever they see fit and will feel no remorse. i'm glad jungkook showed support to his juniors since, more than anyone, he knows what is like to be in the industry at such a young age and how adults around you will take advantage of you.
new jeans were obviously groomed and manipulated by that woman and that is why they feel the need to defend her time and time again. they don't deserve any of the things that have been happening to them and if you say they do, you are an awful person. they are victims and every single adult in their lives failed them big time. that includes everyone in that stupid company and their parents.
artists will stand for artists ALWAYS and if you have a problem with your "fave" one doing so, it means you never respected artists to begin with

No way! GLEN POWELL?!?!?!? You're a fan too????!!!!
Oh boy.
All caps. Tons of exclamation marks and question marks.
I'm in trouble, aren't I?
Because... yes! I'm a huge fan of Glen's! And it's not because he has a hot bod either!
Tumblr media
(Thank you, Top Gun: Maverick, for that volleyball scene. Ahem.)
But no, in all seriousness, the first role I distinctly remember him in was playing that stock market guy in The Dark Knight Rises--the one who promptly got his head beat in by Bane.
Why did it make an impression on me? Because I believed it when he stood up to Bane. It was a stand out scene.
Later, Hidden Figures, I remembered liking John Glenn--and hilariously didn't make the connection of the actor! Not until much later. He made other small roles that I remembered... and then forgot the actor. (Hey, life is busy.)
Then Top Gun: Maverick came out and I remembered sitting back in my seat and going, "Who the fuck was that?!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because wow. Arrogant, snarky, could back up his claims. It was another Tom Cruise in so many ways. Hangman, Glen's character, was just like Maverick, Tom Cruise's character. He popped on the screen and I just had to know more about him.
Cue a deep dive in his history, his Instagram, and his roles. And discovering he was in other roles that I liked!
Then learning about his history as an actor. He said it was Denzel Washington who inspired him to make a try for it in Hollywood--a real try.
By 2007, Glen had made a few roles, small ones, but he credits Denzel for putting faith in himself. Trying out for The Great Debaters, Denzel asked Glen to come back and try for a bigger role... and to drop his noticeable Texas accent. Glen was determined to impress the movie's producers--and succeeded.
He was just 17 years old.
Glen recounted Denzel's advice to him:
"This race, Hollywood, it's a marathon, not a sprint," Powell relayed from the Oscar-winner's advice. "You're running your own race. Don't look in the other lanes. It doesn't matter how fast somebody else is going, where they're going, or if they look better doing it. It doesn't matter."
When he tried out for The Expendables 3, he wrote to Sly Stallone and explained why he was the best choice for the role. Later, Stallone told him it was the reason he got the job.
He then got into Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens on Fox. (And making friends with John Stamos!) It helped him show off his comedic skills and helped make his name in Hollywood.
He actually admitted when he got into Hidden Figures, he was worried he ruined it. It was such a powerful movie and he feared he wrecked it. (Needless to say, no, he didn't. That movie shone!)
He made a rom-com with Zoey Deutch on Netflix that also cinched his skills as an actor who could do romance, comedy, and Top Gun (along with The Expendables) showed he could also do action. He's very well-rounded as an actor.
But what really catapulted him was Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney. For the last few years, Hollywood had struggled to make really big rom-coms (in my humble opinion). Most just don't really break the box office.
Then Sydney Sweeney came along with her clever mind and manipulated the hell out of the chemistry between her and Glen. It worked too well--he had been in a three year relationship with Gigi Paris.
During the filming of Anyone But You, there were so many candids, behind the scenes photographs, that left quite a few convinced Sydney and Glen were having an affair. (Sydney is very much engaged with her longtime boyfriend of, what, 6 years now?) But some speculated it was too much for Gigi and she broke it off.
It's never been confirmed as to why they broke up, but it was interesting....
Then Glen went and adopted a freakin' adorable dog, a mutt, and named it Brisket. That dog has been with him everywhere now! Even during promos!
What I like about Glen? He includes his parents in a lot of his movies as extras! He's frequently seen with his niece and nephew, photographs with them all the time... and a couple of years ago, reenacted, I kid you not, some scenes from ELF in New York with his family. (Seriously. Watch it. I couldn't stop laughing.)
He's made a hit for Netflix with Hit Man. Twisters is doing pretty well in theaters. He's so busy I'm staring at his schedule and thinking to myself, "When does he have time to breathe?!"
What I'm also impressed with is how, upon talking to Matthew McConaughey and realizing how soul-sucking Los Angeles could be, Glen sold his home in Los Angeles and relocated back to Texas!
My last tidbit of amusement? He has green eyes. He's Texan.
Seriously, what is it with me and green-eyed men from Texas? Yeesh.
