@judasisgayriot i'm pretty sure he didn't have a plan between 'i can stop time fast enough..right?' and 'even if i don't better me than [X]' because be real he would've done this for almost everyone, nothing special about Noah (sorry Noah :'D)
and yeah Jeremy's story was. jesus F. like i get that they had to kill him off bc the power's so OP, etc. etc.
but they really couldn't have picked a S L I G H T L Y less utterly horrifying way of doing it could they????

arachnophobia ch 5 notes
chapter title
from 'i am always touched by your presence dear' by blondie.
blondie: punk band fronted by bisexual icon debby harry who made it big in the late 70s.
the band and time period graft well onto a chapter set in the punk subculture in the late 70s.
also a ton of the early mary janes from the latour run was inspired by them. look at the girls' posters and album covers. that's what they're referencing.
and the song itself is about feeling a supernatural connection to a lover who has... 'super friends' and a secret extra sense. fits pretty well with gwen and hobie. a sincere romance between two people who just get each other, who have an interdimensional connection that's going to last even when they part.
it felt nice to put a genuine love song in here. marks a nice change in gwen's arc. things are getting better.
quote
from alfred tennyson's idylls of the king
spoken by guinevere, a another famous gwen in literature, who is also the beautiful blonde love interest of the hero, whose relationship ends tragically, who falls for the wrong guy (one of her husband's friends) and is remembered… controversially for it.
(by controversially i mean when the kingdom falls her husband blames it on her affair. like that makes sense.)
in context this line is guinevere meeting with lancelot one last time as shit blows up, and denying his request that they hide away together, so she can seek redemption on her own. which is what happens in this chapter.
lancelot is hobie. he's the friend of the hero, miles, who the hero's designated love interest, gwen, is drawn to instead. and if the hero's friend and the hero's love interest fall for each other instead, it will be treated as a betrayal with most of the blame landing on the love interest's shoulders, even if the love interest and the hero were never together in the first place (it basically is already; just look at how the fandom reacts to the thought of gwen and hobie together).
gwen's arrival
interdimensional jet lag is a thing: notice how it's twilight on 1610 but midday on 50101 and 928, and the middle of the night on 65?
orb web: the geometric shape of the society portal most resembles one.
in the comics, the vulture yeets gwen into a garbage barge. fond memories.
garbage strikes in the uk in the mid to late 70s are arguably the spark that started punk culture in the country.
if you look closely in hobie's intro, fisk is the prime minister, not osborn, who's the fascist president of his comics counterpart's world.
venom, in hobie's world, is a riot armor worn by specialized police sent in to break up demonstrations.
it's real telling that gwen finds a fascist dictatorship safer than her own home. i figure that hobie would find that significant too.
in the 616 comics, gwen goes to london after her father dies to get away from her grief, before returning because she misses her friends and peter. in the amazing spider-man movies, she nearly goes to oxford, but stays in part bc of her relationship with peter. if she'd stayed in/gone to london, she'd have lived. very significant that the spider-man who gives gwen her freedom happens to be from there.
at this point gwen thinks she's going to die by glitching out. she has no portal watch and no reason to think she'll get another. (she's not thinking clearly enough to consider hobie might loan her his, and even if it did cross her mind, she wouldn't accept it.)
in the script for the first issue of gwen's comics, it's discussed that they want her world to have the vibe of 'it's not a watchmen-style police state yet, but it could be in a few years, and that's part of gwen's motivation for wearing the mask' --- and throughout the latour run, gwen's world's cops, courts and government are deeply corrupt, and gwen constantly opposes them. one would think that 138 would be of particular interest to gwen as a potential outcome for her world.
howard the duck is president in earth-65. yes, it's a trump analog.
alliteration is fun, so all the places gwen looks for hobie start with the letter c:
cellar: mattea murdock is 138's daredevil. since she's blind, she gets to live in a basement. and it's a basement, so the acoustics are probably great, so the band probably practices there.
the coleherne: in the 70s, it was a leather bar. rick is the romantic partner of karl/138-captain-america. it's not mentioned in the fic explicitly, but i think of hobie as queer. him hanging out in a leather bar was a nod to that, though hobie seems like he'd have no issue chilling in a gay bar (or beating up bigots) regardless. also, a reference to hanging around, which was on loop while writing this chapter.
canal: concept art has hobie living in a boat. if he lives in a boat, he needs somewhere to park it, preferably close to his home neighborhood. and what do you know, there are canals near camden.
catacombs: the camden catacombs. figured they'd be a good place to hide a fugitive.
community center: in the comics, hobie operates out of one in brooklyn. i figure it's where movie hobie might have spent some of his nights, and would be a backup place to live.
gwen lands just after sundown to give her time to websling all the way from peckham to camden looking in all these places.
movie-138's art style is a beautiful collage, reminiscent of zines.
gwen's dragging her hands on it because in a few days she'll be molecules. those handprints might be the last trace of her.
the spider-slayers are hobie's band. supposedly, he named them that without their permission.
comics-gwen's gone to rock shows and jumped into the pit when she was depressed. small homage to that here.
hobie's theme song is real. supposedly he's the one who wrote it, and he sings it to himself bc he's a dork.
mindy is 616 hobie brown's wife. here, she's a former flame.
mattea murdock in the comics is from philly. i went with peckham because alliteration.
there's no way gwen wouldn't have started looking at every girl who has a first name starting with 'm' with even the vaguest romantic connection to a spider-man who's into her, without thinking 'you don't happen to have a middle name starting with j, do you?'
even though gwen doesn't want to compete for a guy (especially not miles, who she doesn't even want to be with), she's still anxious about being replaced.
616 gwen dies in 1973. since hobie's world is in the late 70s (according to his mugshot), i figured it would work to keep the year of gwen's death the same. thus, she died in 1973. and since hobie was spider-punk for three years as of '78, he hadn't been bitten yet when she was killed.
and if hobie encountered her in 1970-73, he'd have been 10-13. no way would a preteen be confident enough to talk to a musician who'd be in her late teens at the youngest.
(138 gwen and hobie have the same age difference as 65 gwen and hobie; with her being 6-7 years his senior. huh)
her importance to him isn't romantic. it's parasocial. she's an idol of his who gave him the punk values he now lives by.
hobie brown adores gwen stacy's music and considers her a massively influential punk. given he's so counterculture, i doubt his idol would be selling out stadiums or playing to large crowds.
since punk was arguably born in the uk in the mid-70s garbage strikes, that puts the birth of the subculture at the exact same time hobie, the Punk, was bitten by his spider. interesting parallel.
punk is anger given purpose. lots of people who come to the subculture come angry, seeking a way to channel it. i figure hobie, being a homeless boy without a family, would probably have done that.
what's most vital about the gwen problem isn't not having a gwen to compare her to-- it's being able to get over that comparison (or, in spider-man terms: getting back up after you fall). miles and pav were untested and naive. peter, jess and miguel wouldn't let go of their respective gwens. hobie adapted and changed his behavior-- that's what makes him stand out to her.
meeting hobie
i figure being tipsy in 138 probably makes the world look like a perspiring glass ring on paper. and being tipsy in 65 would color things booze-yellow. combined here.
small bands tend to hang out with their crowds after concerts, especially in the punk scene.
wendy darling is the protagonist of the novel/film/story, peter pan.
soho: at this point would have been full of crime, particularly sex work. i think hobie would've hung around there in his modeling days.
soho, the spitalfields, hackney and hampstead: all neighborhoods in north london, which is hobie's stomping ground.
specifically, he's from camden, which is where punk refined as a sound. camden is to hobie like brooklyn is to miles and queens is to peter.
and hobie's world looooves him. they love him enough to make him the face of their revolution and won't stop loving him after his identity's revealed. to gwen, whose world hates her, that'd probably be a bit painful.
hobie's stopping gwen from drinking any further.
according to lace code, the color blue means you've killed a police officer. hobie having blue laces + being defensive when miles asks about his captain's death = he killed his captain.
if the other elements of that event are at play children in danger, a fight between the spider and an enemy, falling debris), then i can't imagine hobie killing a cop who's trying to save kids. therefore, the cop was probably the one putting the kids in danger, and hobie killed him to protect them. maybe he dropped debris on his head, maybe the debris fell on its own, and hobie took a brick and made sure the cop wouldn't get up.
hobie brown is a killer in the comics too. dude's the top enforcer of the Murder Is Okay faction of the spider-squad.
karl morningdew is comics-hobie's best friend
hobie's mask is the face of a revolution. that revolution probably puts a lot of pressure on him to always wear that face.
basically, hobie was already on the trail of his brother when he ran into him while being arrested. the records just confirmed it in a comics-like coincidence.
616 hobie's family situation: father was drafted and killed when he was a baby, mom became an alcoholic, his eight older siblings raised each other. adapted that here.
all hobie's siblings except for abe aren't named in canon. i'm gonna explain it as 'hobie was split from them so young he genuinely doesn't remember anyone but abe, because abe was his favorite.'
in this fic, i'm adding the element of: the state intervened and took the kids from their mother, split them up and sent them various places. hobie eventually ran away and ended up on the streets, probably around age 11-13.
hobie was born around 1960, putting his parents at the right age to be windrushers.
abe in 616 is a z-list martial artist antihero. since hobie's adapted from a 616 antivillain to a 138 antihero, i'm applying the same shift to abe. now he's an antivillain. and since villains in hobie's world are connected to the fascist government, and abe would've been a poor kid in the system, him becoming a cop felt the most organic way to make him a hand of the state while preserving the martial angle.
also a great way to give hobie conflict. you hate cops? oh shit, now your brother, the only family you've managed to find, is one. good luck with that!
hobie's a deep believer in his revolution's cause. he's also a teenage boy with no family, who wants people to care about him. very easy for that need to be exploited by adults in his cell.
it also gives him commonality with gwen, and her something she can coach him through. i want their relationship to be reciprocal, not just him mentoring her.
fandom salt: hobie's lectures are always right and his heart's in the right place. but gwen stacy does not need a man telling her why patriarchy is bad. she gets it better than he ever will.
fandom salt: everyone focuses so much on spider-punk that they’re neglecting hobie brown. inverse of the pav problem. yes, he’s a brave anarchist hero. he’s also a teenage boy who is capable of vulnerability, fear, anxiety, insecurity, arrogance and loneliness. his personal life matters just as much as his politics, and those things are entwined.
hobie notices gwen's watch is gone when he touches her wrist. at this point he knows she’s out of the society.
i figure hobie probably gets the notifications from the society, but just ignores them unless gwen or pav are explicitly mentioned. so he knew shit was going down and just left them on read.
the houseboat
according to concept art, hobie lives on a houseboat. i went with a canal boat, bc it's the most maneuverable.
hobie's leaving the watch at the door because he doesn't want to be overheard.
those engineering textbooks are going to be used to make the watch later. 616 hobie's also a tech genius.
if gwen is wendy darling, and neverland is the spider-society, and miguel/peter/miles are peter pan, then hobie is captain hook, the outlaw who lives on a boat, is neverland's biggest threat and whose antagonist is represented with a clock/watch face.
hobie's various sleeping spaces include the community center cot (from the comics), a bedsit, the spider-van (comics), a tent, various squats (comics). gwen's been around for the cot and the bedsit. and yes, comics-hobie named it the spider-van.
since hobie's transient, him staying in one place for a while is notable. makes more sense when you consider that if he knows someone's going to be sleeping over at his often, he should probably have a stable address for her to be able to find.
(he's also a teenage boy. if a teenage boy knows a girl he likes is going to be spending a lot of time at his, he's going to want a space to be alone with her)
and truly. comics-hobie, do not sleep surrounded by tons of people if you're the fascist government's most wanted. not gonna end well.
gwen has trouble asking for help, because she's a spider, and because she's a gwen who doesn't want to be considered helpless.
i love a good heroes-patch-each-other-up scene. ideal for gwen to be mentally undressing and unloading her troubles, as it happens physically.
anyway hobie's been Avoiding The Breakup Drama for the past few months. dude does not want to be involved.
(but he’s on gwen’s side. putting aside the personal bias— he simply knows her better than miles— that shit was entrapment, and she was the one who recognized that. she’s also the one who was going to be harmed more by it.)
and he and miles have a great dynamic... but let's be real, no 15 year old boy who had his heart stomped on by his crush is gonna hang out with the guy he thinks his crush left him for, no matter how good an influence the guy is. hobie doesn't want to take sides, but miles picks them for him.
hobie being so hands-off with gwen is a side effect of his watch part heist. gotta be subtle to stick around long enough to pull it off. consequence being: he can't step in when miguel's being abusive, or directly tell gwen she needs to get out. consequence being: she's getting hurt and doesn't believe he can help her, and he feels guilty.
he is also assuming at this point that their hookup situation is coming to an end, and that gwen arrived to tell him that.
ok, mask off: hobie and gwen's vibe is n o t p l a t o n i c. those two were fucking. girls don't leave a toothbrush and multiple articles of clothing at a guy's place unless they're sleeping with him, or intend to sleep with him. she's literally wearing his shoes and sweater, and he didn't give them to her, and she's flustered when he points them out, which means that gwen was at hobie's, in a state of undress, throwing clothes on fast, and his clothes were tangled up with hers. your honor, they were exploring each others bodies.
they have similar interests, worldviews and politics. they've fought together for dozens of missions and hung out in their civvies. they're lonely and they care deeply. she's been coming home with him to spend the night for months, and whatever they're doing has her flustered. and they have no adults around. obviously something happened.
... look he's kneeling between her legs while she's undressed on a bed to evoke a certain situation.
one of the big questions surrounding spider-gwen is whether she'll ever be able to fall in love with spider-man without dying or sacrificing her autonomy for him, or if she'll have to essentially be a nun in order to keep her narrative.
the movie at least acknowledges that she should be allowed to love spider-man and live, so points there.
look if the spider-society's invested in gwen being spiderman's gf, they're gonna have Opinions about spider-gwen's love life. they're gonna insist she can only date a few preapproved respectable guys. and inevitably, she's going to be expected to have sex with them.
do the math: a queer teenage girl is being isolated from her home and told if she ever returns to it she'll be killed/abused/imprisoned, told she has to aspire towards winning the love of a few skeevy adult authority figures, and that her physical safety and reputation rest on submitting to an inevitably-sexual relationship with a guy they've chosen for her.
do the math: gwen being pressured by the society into being spider-man's girlfriend translates directly into gwen being groomed. yes, that kind of grooming.
it's taken her a long time to fully wrap her mind it. like lots of girls in this situation, deep down, she can tell what's happening-- you can see gwen start to notice that something's wrong as early as chapter two-- but she can't admit it to herself because then she'd have to acknowledge that all her role models are dangerous and that she has no way out.
the first time she Gets It is when she sees gwen-8: oh, that's what i'm here for. that's why she's so viscerally disgusted, why she gets so livid at miles, and why she's so angry and listless in 3-- she's disillusioned, she sees the danger, and she feels helpless, so she does something destructive to get a bit of control back. but she still has no way out.
then in 4, gwen's past the point of being afraid of being punished for not conforming, and she's called out her mentors for failing her, so she's able to call miguel on his shit directly to his face.
and now in 5, gwen's in a safe place to unpack all that shit and tell herself bluntly what she avoided. not to mention she's with someone she has had a consensual relationship with, which makes it easier for her to make sense of the difference.
the sex tangent
this is a spiderman story, so it's a coming-of-age story. and part of coming-of-age is figuring out how you feel about sex and starting to experiment with it. (even if you're ace, you're still exploring your feelings about sex. just from another angle. figuring out what you don't like is just as important as figuring out what you do.)
on a personal/character-level: gwen considering her feelings for different people and exploring them is natural and normal. can't believe i have to spell this out, but the fandom's full of puriteens who are as fascinated by sex as they are terrified of it, so: it's normal for teenagers to mess around.
she starts the story with some level of interest in miles, peter (and by extension, pav), and has unpacked that she's not as attracted to them as she knows she is intended to be.
now it's time to start exploring what she does like. yes, that means a whirlwind psychosexual girlfriendship with gayatri. and an intimate relationship with hobie.
and on a meta level... sex is a big part of gwen stacy and spider-gwen's narrative, because it's what prevents fans and writers from treating her like a person.
gwen stacy isn't allowed to exit the narrative or move on with someone else because then she wouldn't be peter's girlfriend anymore. killing her makes sure he can move on, while still being the best she's ever had.
spider-gwen keeps getting dragged away from her homeworld to put her in romantic proximity with whichever guys the writers are self-inserting onto. why do they keep turning down opportunities to make her strictly platonic with these dudes? because they want her to have sex with them, and sex isn't usually on the table in platonic friendships.
(... i'm talking about miles as well as peter. brian michael bendis even spelled it out when his earth-8 ocs swoop in out of nowhere with kids. the entire point is that miles gets the clout of being the guy who deflowers*, maintains sexual access to and impregnates gwen stacy. and gwen gets the 'honor' of having his kids. it's that miles 'did what peter never could' and got to do all those things to gwen and have his legacy secured by it. fucking kill me.)
(and yes. i'm talking about sv miles too. gwen was literally only put in itsv to be miles's love interest, but they cut the romance out because it didn't work. they put it back for atsv. she's only allowed in this trilogy, and allowed any pov at all, because of the expectation that she's going to date and eventually sleep with miles. they literally had gwen leap on top of miles in bed when they reunite. they're not being subtle about where they want this relationship to lead.)
*yes, deflowers. i can't impart to you the absolute hell that is browsing the spider-gwen reddit and seeing men (it's always men) insisting that she Must Be A Virgin. or how it's so fucking clear that the spiderverse fandom wants gwen to, you know, save herself for miles (look at the discourse surrounding ghostpunk: either gwen's a disloyal slut who was putting out for hypersexual predator hobie, or gwen's a good girl who's been waiting for miles all this time!).
people want gwen to be a virgin, because they want miles to get the clout of being the guy who pops her cherry and... 'takes' that from her. (all the more reason to say "fuck you, comics-gwen had a sweaty roadside hookup with kaine in clone conspiracy and spiderverse-gwen was screwing around with hobie for months." no gratification for you or your self-insert. this is about her.)
it is the opinion of the author, fwiw, that virginity doesn't exist and was just made up to control women's bodies.
gwen's probably not allowed to come out and date women because in part, those writers want her to remain sexually available to their male characters.
the fandom sexualizes the hell out of gwen even as they police who she's allowed to have sex with, and doesn't give a shit that spiderverse-gwen is underage.
if society doesn't care, neither would the society. therefore, this translates to the spider-society intentionally keeping gwen from going home, pushing her towards a sexual relationship with a guy they've selected for her and making her feel like she can't say no. textbook grooming.
so: on a societal level... this whole situation grafts onto the way young women's sexualities are perceived: you have to have a sexuality. you have to have sex (read: heterosexual, penetrative sex with a cishet man that's about pleasing and gratifying him and giving him biological children) someday. because if you don't, then there's no use for you, because your function in society is building a man's legacy by fluffing his ego and bearing his children.
and that sexuality, which is the most important thing about you, doesn't even belong to you. it belongs to some cishet boy you're destined for, who's out there somewhere, who's going to come into your life and take ownership of that sexuality someday.
and your job is to... you know, save it for him, and then give it up at exactly the right time in exactly the right way.*
(*because-- tangent within a tangent: there's a second shitty male power fantasy other than the buff guy who's naturally great with women who swoon at his feet. it's the nerdy guy who doesn't have to be forward because his female love interest is confident enough to do all the work of initiating the relationship because he's too insecure to do it himself, yet she's somehow inexperienced so he's the best she's ever had, even when he's barely done shit. one's about having a submissive girlfriend right from the jump. the other's about getting an independent girl to let go of her autonomy because you're just that special.
-> you know, the gwen and miles dynamic. it was true in earth 8, it's still true in the sv movies. tangent within a tangent over.)
that was all to say, the only acceptable way to have control over your sexuality is in the moment that you give that control to that boy. even your desires, actions and pleasure are about him.
and if you don't want to give it up at all, or if you've used that sexuality for your own purposes that don't graft onto what society wants from you (non-straight, non-penetrative, non-malecentric, non-reproductive sex... or even all of those things with the wrong man, which results in the wrong kind of children that don't fit into society), then society has to punish you.
because if you don't get in line, and you start using it for your own purposes, then they don't have a way to reduce you to an accessory of his, or propogate their norms on the next generation, which they need you to create.
look it just follows that the spider-society, which functions like a religious cult, would have creepy thoughts about the sexualities of teenage girls and have their own version of purity culture.
canon has a chokehold on gwen's sexuality.
and this fic is about breaking her canon, so part of the way to do it is by taking ownership of her sexuality-- not by kissing her preapproved future mate first and saying that simply doing that is enough. not by denying that her sexuality exists. not by refusing to have any relationships at all after she realizes how corrupt the system is, but by exploring them at her pace and seeking out what she wants. if spider-gwen hides from love and sex forever, then we're admitting that the societal problems with them are insurmountable (and therefore letting the assholes who keep dehumanizing her off the hook, because it can't be helped). they aren't. they never were.
houseboat ii
fandom salt: guys. why the fuck would the anarchist who resents canon and power structures be all 'oh no gwen, i must refuse your advances, your sexuality belongs to some guy i barely know.' if she asked him to fuck her, he'd say yes.
to a girl for whom being a girlfriend will always mean death or disempowerment, a boy who actively refuses labels and keeps his relationships unhierarchal would be very attractive.
anyway in this fic, gwen and hobie started hooking up, and agreed not to label their relationship, or call attention to it. equal parts disdain for the trappings of a heteronormative relationship and sidestepping what canon dictates will happen to it. and they're past the point of casual, but can't admit it.
there's a reason that he's on his knees in front of her, about to give her a ring-shaped object that she'll always wear that could lead to them being together forever. (blows my mind that nobody put together the romantic undertones to hobie making nice with her dad before giving gwen that band in a little box.)
he's cool with gwen having other partners, and would have been fine and not at all jealous if she wanted to end the relationship and go back to being friends. but man does he not want to end it.
(more conflict: hobie’s ideology clashing with his feelings. uh oh, you caught them anyway. now what?)
so after he clears the air on that, time to talk about the watch.
hobie's looking at the amps because he's thinking about assembling that watch so gwen can get away from miguel.
he thinks at this point that gwen was kicked out of the society. she has to correct him.
how does hobie know about miles's venom blasts? how does he do THAT with his guitar? well, they're both prowlers in alternate timelines. maybe electric hands are a prowler power.
(interesting that spiderverse gwen has a type: artistic, kind, heroic black boys with a dark side who are at risk of becoming the prowler. yes the films are treating hobie like he's the closest thing she can get to miles, but let's flip it. gwen had a thing for miles because he was the first step towards hobie.)
star wars would've just come out in hobie's timeline. that boy probably saw it a ton.
hobie doesn't trust miguel alone with gwen for a lot of reasons. he comes from a world where the worst abuses of power are commonplace, as an ex-model he has personal experience surviving the particular circumstance where teenagers are isolated from their peers, made to work like adults and surrounded by grown-ups who are attracted to them, and miguel has a certain vibe with her (being that gwen has been both his love interest and daughter in different timelines, both of which he would be aware of) that hobie wants to keep an eye on.
aka, hobie has noticed that gwen's being groomed. he isn't telling her because that boy likes keeping information to himself, and because he correctly assumed gwen would go a little batshit if she knew and had no immediate way out. a big part of why he's accompanying her at the society is running interference--nobody can be too creepy to her if someone they find intimidating is in the room and they know he'll shut that down-- and being emotional support in the event that something does happen.
aka when gwen turns up unexpectedly after being totally missing for a week with claw marks on her face and waist, bruises on her hip and knees, ripped thighs and defensive wounds on her hands, and she’s mysteriously out of the society after a late night conflict with only miguel that she's antsy about discussing, hobie’s first assumption is that gwen was sexually assaulted but managed to escape. and, given that she's been withdrawn, evasive and skittish about intimacy for months after the miles rejection, that it might have been happening even before tonight. he’s put it together by now that this didn’t happen, but that was his first thought.
65a gwen directly killing her peter is one of the most important beats of her character. i'm very salty that 65b gwen was denied the ability to do that. its why 65a gwen's so compassionate towards her villains, and pulls so many of her punches. 65b gwen never learned those lessons.
65b gwen is taking on more of her comics counterpart's characterization as the fic progresses. she's getting clumsier, more foul-mouthed, more compassionate, more independent.
houseboat iii
hobie is the prowler on 616.
and punk's the only spider-hobie. that's the one chance he gets to be something other than a villain. i figure the society would hold that over him.
and that hobie wouldn't blink at all the alternates. he's too affirmed in his own identity.
65-hobie is a preteen in a street gang who tags construction sites to protest gentrification. he actually teaches gwen about that and has a mini-arc in the latour run where he gains respect for her. good kid.
now that miles is so popular, all the new prowlers are variations on aaron davis. so in a sense, because of miles, prowler hobie brown was left behind.
but as of the spiderverse comics events and movie, the definitive hobie is spider-punk, and he couldn't have existed in the first place if miles morales hadn't been such a success and proved that other spider-men (black spider-men) could be accepted. so in a way, miles is also the reason hobie gets to be the hero of his own story.
hobie being a mentor to miles is a great concept. especially if they bond over being prowler-alternates.
gwen's a standin for white girls, miles for brown boys: consider how the society responds to them: it lures her in and promises her a seat at the table, while stripping her autonomy, walling her up inside it and telling her the outside world is too dangerous and she's better off in here (... and as a queer girl, tells her to repress her feelings and stick to the heteronormative). it stonewalls miles and freezes him out unless he follows a white guy's playbook.
hobie's fallible. when he first joined and heard his favorite musician gwen stacy was in the lobby, his nonconformist ass decided to stick around... and after their interaction re: the gwen death canon, he kept sticking around, since the entire reason he's in the society is to be close to her. yes, it was to help her escape, but he still gave the society a lot of time and labor in the interim. it worked.
that's one of the advantages of having gwen in the society. she's a lure to spiders on the fence about joining or who doubt about the mission.
what gwen does doesn't matter to them. it's all about the image of her. she's the dead girl on a pedestal.
'what does it matter what we want if everyone else already decided what we get to be' -- big theme here. does it matter if gwen and hobie's relationship isn't based on traditional patriarchal ideas about relationships, if everyone else assumes she's His Girlfriend? and how can gwen redefine her narrative if no one will let her? how can you rebel against the system if the system doesn't register what you're doing as rebellion? there's a push and pull that has to be factored in.
more first aid
again, i like that the trans coding made gwen's ballet subversive again. now she's raiding the ultimate form of femininity for the tools to make herself a girl, instead of being femmed up to appeal to a male love interest.
hobie's modeling stint is intriguing. guy's canonically extremely physically attractive by the standards of his world, aware of it, and was at least at one point willing to use it to get ahead.
and he's adept at using aesthetics to communicate his message (re his politics) and throw suspicion off himself (everyone in the society writes him off as all bark, no bite, in no small part because of the way he dresses himself). i figure he probably learned about that from his time in the fashion industry.
616 manny lopez is a little boy hobie brown mentored, who was killed in a gang conflict. adapted here as a younger boy hobie felt protective of, who died while hobie was in his use-powers-irresponsibly phase, probably his time as a model. manny's his uncle ben, so to speak. idk if manny's a kid from the neighborhood who was killed or if a fellow model who fell prey to the skeevier parts of the industry. regardless, he ends up dead because hobie was partying when he should've been looking after him, hobie took this loss hard, and it motivated him to quit and start using his powers to protect his community.
hobie's tendency to put his foot in his mouth is a fun character flaw. dude, you're right, but read the room.
especially when it comes to the canon. he might hate it, but his resentment of it is not the same as gwen's; if hobie goes on autopilot, his canon will give him what he wants. if gwen does, it'll kill her.
which is why his disillusionment has to be triggered by her: it's an expansion of his worldview, to understand that just because he gets what he wants from it doesn't mean it's good.
hobie and gwen are both doomed by the narrative to die young. one would think they'd bond over that.
hobie's guilty about not wanting to die young. dude's an idealist, who doesn't want to die for the cause. of course it'll eat at him. it IS selfish. but just because it's selfish doesn't mean it's bad.
hobie's a revolutionary. he's also a teenage boy. he's going to want to have things that don't revolve around the cause. things like hobbies or days off or a personal life, with friends and a romantic partner.
the 'no future' song (god save the queen, by the sex pistols) and ideology would resonate a lot with a girl who doesn't have one.
it's weird as hell that in itsv gwen is in 1610 for a week and doesn't glitch for most of that time, when peter is there for like a day and he's already fuzzy.
this is the depression stage of grief. gwen thinks she's going to die, and is evaluating things in those terms: wanting miles and hobie to make up, wanting margo to replace her so at least the group won't have a girl-shaped hole in it, wanting to drink and dance and leave her mark on a world she thinks she won't see again. and seeing someone who means a lot to her, one last time.
she's come to the one person who won't judge her for her mess, and who she knows is capable of avenging her.
no, it's not enough of a change for her to choose the spider-man who avenges her. but she's cornered, and she's taking what she can.
most of all, gwen's here for comfort. it's why she lets him patch her up even though her healing factor's got it and she'll be dead in days as far as she knows.
the subtext intended here is that gwen and hobie are definitely not casual about their intimate relationship anymore, and their feelings are running deep. this is the moment they tip over into full-on love, but they haven't admitted it to themselves or each other.
hobie absolutely is thinking 'i can save you' but he gets that it isn't what she wants to hear.
he's fully dressed because he's not going to fall asleep-- he's heading right into his allnighter to get the watch done.
the watch
the burst of light is hobie testing the watch. it works.
gwen slept to the afternoon; girl had a busy day yesterday.
gwen's dressing herself in things that remind her of people she loves: shoes that both belong to hobie and remind her of 65a gwen, a shirt that belonged to gayatri, a cuff that was pavitr's, a sweater she probably got from hobie, and her hair's still in the cut miles caused.
hobie making the watch for her birthday WAS a happy accident. that's how my timeline ended up by mistake. it works!
very telling that in the movie, the first two watches we see are one for him and one for gwen.
one of the best things about movie hobie is how methodical and cunning he is. dude pretends to be spontaneous, but everything he says and does is carefully thought out.
the watch construction is all the more impressive when you consider that hobie has to work with tech from 100+ years in the future.
in the movie, hobie was only at the society to keep gwen safe. as soon as 1) he had what he needed to make the watches, and 2) she left-- he'd have quit. which is what happens.
the appeal of hobie isn't that he's a hot bad boy. it's that he gives a shit about gwen's problems and wants to help her solve them, but not at the cost of her being able to make her own choices. it drives me insane how good he is at walking that tightrope.
he's the one that gets how to solve the gwen problem: help her, yes, but only when she can't help herself. and only then, with the goal of getting her to a place where she can help herself. it's the principle of being a good ally.
and he's the first spider-man to ever encourage gwen to stay in london. but he still leaves it up to her.
even though hobie won't make her subservient to him in his narrative, nobody else will see it that way if she stays. to them (... to a lot of people reading the fic, probably), she's just slumming it with a subpar spider-man. which is why she can't kiss him right now.
her inability to admit that she loves him, or he loves her, is because up until now, gwen couldn't conceive of love without a power dynamic that hurts her. in her mind, hobie can't possibly be in love with her because he isn't trying to control her, so whatever they're doing Isn't That. all her "it doesn't count" insistence is a defense mechanism that she's finally letting go of. maybe it does. maybe that's a good thing.
yes, gwen can fall in love with spider-man without dying or losing her autonomy... but she can only do that AFTER she obtains her independence and uses it to advance her own story for her own sake. she's not there yet, but she's close.
gwen-138 died 'epically' by punk's standards. so she probably went down in a clash with the fascists... and since the cops are an arm of the fascists, and george stacy is a cop... one must assume if that's still the case and he hadn’t died yet, george either was complicit in or responsible for his daughter's death.
if george was the captain... then hobie not only killed gwen's dad, but avenged her death, something basically none of the spiders end up doing.
i went with that hc because of how well it suited the fic. perfect way to discuss hobie's backstory, tie it back in to gwen 138 and gwen 65, and give gwen 65 the kick she needs to meet gwenom.
the implications gwen's absorbing: a version of my dad killed a version of me so it could get that bad if i go home, my new friend who i'm attracted to killed a version of my dad, who i still love... and a spider-man actually avenged me.
look there's no way that a teenage girl who's told over and over that ~we can't get retribution for your murder because of Our Precious Morals~ wouldn't find a handsome boy who actually did avenge her extremely attractive.
in my mind this is the moment gwen decided she wanted to fuck him. as simple as i can put it, she realized those hands got the job done, and wanted them on her. that's why she took down the barrier. it was always possible for things to go that way, but that was the moment she decided to make it definitive.
this fic is t-rated, so that's as far as i was willing to take it. but in my head, their relationship became sexual a short time afterwards. not that night, but within the next few days.
and since the society (and, while she's under their wing, gwen) view sex as this inherently heterosexual penetrative act with a prescribed power dynamic-- and her relationship with hobie was none of those things when it started-- it would've been very easy for her to compartmentalize it. 'it doesn't count' and all. therefore, she can keep doing it and not feel like she should be punished. the problem is, of course, that it does count, and they're running into a brick wall pretending otherwise. and that wall would always have crumbled. here, it's because gwen's fully deprogrammed and able to take control of her life. and hobie's involvement in that deprogramming, and willingness to step aside and let her take care of things on her terms has guaranteed that though she's not staying, she'll absolutely be back. gwen can fall in love with spider-man and it can end well for her, and this is the spider-man she can do that with.
65b gwen wants to talk to 65a gwen. she's finally ready to do it.
the violence she's considering is a prison break, bc at this point she thinks gwenom is still incarcerated.
time for a classic comics gwen emotional speech!
reciprocity again: not only does gwen teach hobie that canon sucks, but that dying young isn't attractive and you should want to protect yourself so you can have a long life. and that not everybody in a corrupt system is terrible; most of the people in it are just as downtrodden, and could use empathy and help. things he can apply to his own world, personal life and narrative for the better. he can live long, make more friends, rebuild his family, and form a bigger coalition for his revolution, which means it'll be more successful. it's about balance: he challenges her to stand up for her principles, she reminds him to take care of himself.
hobie's spent so much time trying to be the perfect embodiment of punk that when we first meet him, that he started to forget his own humanity. sometimes it's hard to see that the way you're being treated is wrong, especially when you're used to reflexively devaluing yourself. through meeting gwen, and seeking something better for her, some of that's rubbed off on him. he's able to see himself as both a punk and a person now.
falling in love is in itself a revolutionary act when the status quo believes you're incapable or unworthy of it. the character who's been dismissed by canon and the fandom as the disposable love interest/sexless babysitter bestie/predator being the love interest who's actually the girl's best option, who's recognized as such and ends up with her, is more groundbreaking than them simply being friends the whole time.
the hand-catch is a reference to their first meeting in the comics. that panel of him clutching her hand lives in my head.
again, hobie gets it: don't fight gwen's battles for her, but offer your support and jump in if she asks for it.
my goal was make this chapter as romantic as possible without a kiss and as intimate as possible without sex.
gwen lands in 65a.
end quote
from seanan mcguire's ghost-spider run. issue 4, again.
spoken by hobie to gwen during noir's funeral, which they facilitate together. one of the prime gwobie moments of the comics. they really are that good and it's wild to me that the gwiles movie accidentally softlaunched ghostpunk. but hey, i'll take it.
no, she should not have to fight her battles alone. (and yes, hobie is the right person to help her. he's by far the best romantic option she's ever had in any continuity.)
and as far as this fic's concerned, gwen's currently on her way to find someone who can fight her battles with her.

for the emoji asks: 💔💞✅🧠🤩
Thank youuuu! 😍🥰
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
Yes… There's been many throughout the years, but the most recent one is I Promised, Didn't I? It was written as a reponse to someone's request. They asked for an AU where Lelouch snaps at C.C. and his words actually hurt her.
Flavor: Hurt/Comfort. 🔥
I was all too happy to deliver. What I did not expect was for my heart to break alongside C.C. as I was writing it. Not gonna lie, there's a paragraph in that fic where shit got way too real for me.
💞 Who's your comfort character?
I have two, to be honest.
^ This man… He was my first fictional crush. I was eight when my cousin introduced me to anime, specifically Yu-Gi-Oh… It was downhill from there. To this day, I love living vicariously through Seto Kaiba, and I adore Blueshipping… So. Freaking. Much. 💙🤍
^ This boy speaks to my heart and soul. At first glance, I thought he was just a comic relief character while you play Final Fantasy XV, but holy shit! I've never connected to a character more than I've connected with Prompto. Let's just say, he and I have the same issues and anxieties. The only difference is, he found true friends in Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis. Unfortunately, I wasn't as blessed as he was. 💀💀
✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?
I answered this question in another ask, but there is more than one thing I keep repeating whenever I write... 😅
Aside from secret lovers tropes, there's also a lot of, "It didn't work the first time, let's make it work the second time around." Personally, I call it my 'Second Chances' fixation. It's been that way all the way to my old FFN account, and has even been pointed out by commenters a few times.
Again, that probably has something to do with how I was raised and other stuff, and I don't understand it, but I'm content to leave it at that. 😂
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
No character was mentioned in the ask… But let's go with L Lawliet… 😁
I've written out so many Lelouch headcanons at this point, so let's shine the spotlight on one of my other fave characters. xD
I like believing that L owns properties around Europe. I just like the idea of L staying in a big ass tourist chateau in France or Denmark or Slovakia… He only uses one room of the big property and when he's not there, it's a tourist spot. Why does he own them? 🤷♀️ Just because…
With that said, I also subscribe to the fact that L is FREAKING LOADED. 💰🤑 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there official material where it says that he charges at LEAST 1 Million USD per case? (And he's solved 3,500 cases + he funded that Kira HQ Building with 20 floors without blinking an eye + that episode where Near yeets L's cash out of a building and uses it as a distraction to escape the rioters). He's picky with his cases as L, but he has 2 other aliases (Coil & Deneuve) and one of them charges exorbitant prices for a case too… Case in point, Coil's prices during the Yotsuba arc. I don't think it's difficult for L to invest in the stock market and make a shitload of money off of there too. He's smart enough to do that stuff. 😇
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
At the moment, I'm having WAY too much fun writing Lelouch, Light, and L… Favorite character to write of ALL TIME, is hands down, Seto Kaiba. My old FFN account has Seto Kaiba fics in it. 😊

Spider-Man Read-Through 047: Mayhem By Moonlight (ASM 187-190)
MASTERPOST
In this batch, Captain America fights Spidey!
We also see kidnappings. A LOT of kidnappings.
Last time, a lot of things happened. Peter almost graduated, Betty dumped Ned, but it looks like she'll go back to him soon if Spectacular Spider-Man is anything to go by, we met Big Wheel, Peter Parker was hot, he also proposed but it backfired, oh and Doc Ock died in a side novel!
Here's a status update for Aunt May: she's been moved to a nursing home. Good for her!
Want the art style update?
Well. They tried!
So Peter's still hard on cash because he refused merchandising offers, yes, even the edible underwear, which I now want to see. He gets closer to a house guarded by SHIELD agents, and thinks about the date with Betty that he didn't outright refused. OoOOooh!
Spidey ends up stumbling upon none other than Captain America, who eventually makes him leave after a short fight. Cap's here to rescue a kid who's been taken by Electro. The latter hasn't appeared in 8 years of SM magazines, would you believe it?
Why is this panel so good when most of the others are... not?
Anyway, unfortunately for Electro, the kid he stole from his parents has "the Plague", so he yeets him and tries to absorb all the power station's power. Obviously, he dies, just like the Lightmaster a few SSM issues ago.
This issue had me flabbergasted for a myriad of reasons. The strange fading, the Ditko-style layout, the weird pacing... It's a strange one!
#188 opens with another kidnapping!
What do they want with Jameson Jr.?! Oooh, I don't like that. I don't like that one bit!
Meanwhile, at the hospital...
Betty, that's really not an appropriate outfit for that kind of place, what the fuck.
Anyway, I really love how Peter's upper clothes are drawn, I don't know what it is about them, maybe it's the shading, but it works. But Betty, for the love of all that's good in the world, what the fuck.
In a seedy bar, Jigsaw, aka the most nothing villain ever, wants to do a heist, but without any super-beings involved, because it's too much of a mess otherwise.
Liz brings Peter to a midnight cruise with their friends, which is fun because I like to see this cast interact. Of course, MJ's also there for her monthly ASM cameo where she dates a random guy.
I need more drama. Go further! Peter, you have to sleep with her. Gimme soap! I need soap. And Ned has to come back, of course.
And while Harry and Liz watch them from the sidelines, we learn that it's Liz who said to MJ that Peter would be there in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened at the disco...
Jigsaw and his crew suddenly get on board and more importantly, I'm starting to get used to that weird shading.
Like... I can't deny the style.
So Jigsaw kidnaps (what the heck, how many of these are we going to see?!) Harry and Liz.
Hah, the third panel is a new one. Some of these panels (here, the middle one) also look like they could be taken out of context and displayed in a frame.
Spidey's main worry is that Harry relapses on being the Green Goblin. I think he'll be alright for a few years, but who knows!
In his hideout, Jigsaw's so clueless that he decides to let the lovebirds go.
That's a cute scene, aww <3
An interesting chase follows, with Spidey eventually coming face to face with Jigsaw and challenging him to pull the trigger and use his last bullet.
Okay, that's... good.
That's a lame final panel, and might the shocking guest star be Man-Wolf? Hopefully I'll really be surprised.
This reminds me that Marv Wolfman was also the one to write most of Tomb of Dracula, and I'm not exactly fond of the direction the comics took after the first issues (which I found much more interesting). I should continue reading Dracula, shouldn't I?
...We'll see about that.
#189 time!
That's a great first page!
Peter says his goodbye to May (can't he visit her at her new home though?) and that asshole finally gets his comeuppance.
Later...
I'm sorry Spidey but I kind of... don't care about all that. At least it's a nice recap. On the right... It looks like the Kingpin's son, or Silvermane, or that guy who made the Spider-Slayer several times. Are we getting another Slayer storyline? Please, no!
We then get a quick scene of Marla comforting Jameson (after all, his son's still missing!).
A r m s. They could probably choke me both.
Oh, I recognize those lips. It's that asshole for sure. Can't be bothered to remember his name.
OKAY OKAY. FIRST OFF. Once again, the shading in the first two panels is amazing, I love it, I don't understand it but it's absolutely beautiful. It's also there in the lower panels.
But also! That kinda dubcon-ish kiss! That's my jam. Love it. Excellent.
When we see Spidey again, it's several hours later. Methinks there was more than kissing here...
Soon, a mummy attacks J.J., and Spidey defends him.
The right panel is neat.
Of course, Man-Wolf's under the bandages, and he kidnaps his dad. That's the end twist.
#190 time!
As predicted, Smythe's the culprit. He calls himself Spencer, but I thought it was Alistair. Regardless, I recognized the haircut and the lips. Turns out Smythe's dying thanks to regular exposure to radiations in his attempts to rid the Earth of Spidey.
I don't mind this as long as you regularly show sexy Peter too.
Almost there!
In a belated continuation of the Daily Globe's rivalry plotline with the Bugle, we get a glimpse of their offices, where the chief orders an underling to print money. Figuratively. They might go after Peter...
So Jameson's genderfluid. I knew that haircut was dubious!
Jameson successfully gets through his son, but Smythe's really angry and orders him to throw himself in the ocean.
This is stupid! I hate it! And showing me beautiful legs won't make me appreciate this bad ending more! It sucks! It really does!
...And then Jameson Jr disappears before he hits the water. What.
Well, this is still stupid, just differently.
In the letters, a fan also thinks that recent issues had a Lee/Ditko vibe. And the team answers that it was intentional! Good to see I wasn't just hallucinating. Also, the team says that the next issue features the "final-forever" Spider-Slayer. Ugh.

Before I get into the next post, let's talk some more about robot doubles. I've had a few more that I overlooked pointed out to me, so let's check those out before we move on, shall we?
First of all, we need to talk about Tommy Turtle. I guess it was inevitable that I'd have to talk about him at some stage. Sigh.
Our tale of woe begins in Sonic #117:
That's Sonic in disguise by the way, in case you couldn't tell. So the story goes that Sonic used to bully Tommy when they were kids, Tommy challenged him to a race, and Sonic got cocky and took a nap only to wake up to find Tommy had just crossed the finish line. Sonic believed they would have become great friends after that, but Robotnik's coup happened the very next day and Tommy disappeared without a trace. Fast forward ten plus years and Sonic found out that Tommy was still alive and being held prisoner by the group that would later call themselves the Destructix. Sonic naturally went in to save the day only to find out it was a trap meant to deliver him right into Eggman's hands.
Eggman, now a robot who could roboticise living beings purely by touch, wasn't pleased when Sonic and Tommy tried to escape, and decided to roboticise the mercenaries too. Sleuth Doggy Dawg (no, I'm not making that name up) realised he was about to become a robot slave and instead attempted to blow up the entire building with them still in it. Seeing the danger, Tommy managed to yeet Sonic out a window to safety, seemingly dying in the explosion.
It would have been an okay story, if not for one problem: Tommy. Wouldn't. Stay. DEAD.
The following year (issue #135) Sonic was contacted by Tommy, letting him know he was still alive and wanted to meet. Sonic went in to find him seemingly fine, and with intel that Eggman could now apparently undo the effects of the Bem, an alien race who had turned everyone who'd been roboticised back to normal (I'll get more into those guys later). It was at this point that Tommy's point seemed to be proven, as the roboticised Destructix (still not called that yet, but let's just stick with the name Destructix for convenience's sake) showed up.
Sonic fought off the robots and took Tommy home to Knothole, conveniently failing to notice how fishy his story about escaping two of the robots by hotwiring them and reprogramming them to jump in a lake was. Sonic's father Jules paid the price for that lapse of judgement in the next issue, when he interrupted "Tommy"'s attempt to assassinate Sonic in his sleep.
Don't worry, he got better. Jules did, I mean. Not Tommy. Well, not this Tommy. It seems that Eggman had created a new auto-automaton plant, planning to send out more infiltrators to take down his enemies. After Uncle Chuck inspected the robot's remains they discovered that it was a model based on Tommy of the age he would currently be, leaving Sonic to realise he must still be alive after all. So in Sonic #137 the Freedom Fighters went on a rescue mission that also involved destroying the production facilities for the auto-automatons.
And of course, that means we got some more robotic imposters. We'd also later find out that the metal Destructix were also imposters, and that the real Destructix were actually alive and well. Around this time in the comics there was also a Metal Snively?
I think that calling him "Project Metal Snively" in a later issue was done as an attempt to cover up the creative team making a goof, as I think they forgot that Snively was no longer roboticised at this point in the comic.
There's also one other Metal Sonic variant I forgot about, and that's the Metal Sonic Troopers.
These guys were commissioned by King Acorn after Sonic was thought to be dead, and built by Uncle Chuck and Rotor using Metal Sonic's power core (this was long before Shard was resurrected). They were designed to protect Knothole, but were decommisioned after Sonic turned out to be alive and well. The troopers would later be activated by the being known as "Anonymous," and would wreak havoc and endanger Knothole in their attempts to take down Eggman AND Sonic. This story came out around the time of Sonic Heroes, but the design of the troopers is the closest we would get to a game adaptation.
Okay, hopefully I've covered everyone now. No new episode today because this one has already taken awhile to write up, and the next one is another beefy one. Hopefully I'll have it out tomorrow, but I've found myself getting increasingly busy in the lead-up to Christmas and haven't had much time for writing. So we'll see how I go. :)
Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon?
Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80’s or ‘90’s syndicated cartoon! We've got a long one today, which isn't surprising considering the topic of the day:
Episode 15: Robot duplicate
I mean, well duh. This is a Sonic the Hedgehog comic, of course there’s going to be robot duplicates! Shall we take it from the top?
Our first instance of a robot double was Pseudo Sonic, who was introduced in Sonic #9’s story of the same name. Robotnik tasked him with finding Knothole, which he did when Antoine mistook him for Sonic and accidentally led him right into the secret base.
Pseudo Sonic wasn’t that much of a threat though, and was almost immediately destroyed by Tails! Nice going, kiddo!
An interesting factoid about Pseudo Sonic - he was first seen in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, where he turned out not to be a sentient robot but actually a piloted mech.
So yeah, Pseudo Sonic definitely deserves a shoutout for actually being in a syndicated cartoon as well as ArchieSonic!
Next up we have…
Wait, Princess Sally? Well, not quite. ArchieSonic had a few mini-series in the ‘90’s, and Princess Sally was the first character to be focused on. Except surprise! It wasn’t Princess Sally at all!
The real Sally spent the majority of the first two issues of her three issue story in stasis while she was being impersonated by a robotic doppleganger called an auto-automaton.
Robotnik had intended to make duplicates of all the Freedom Fighters, but Sally blew up the factory with help from the trainees she was mentoring and Geoffrey St. John. And yet the robo fakers kept on coming back for more. One of them I’ve already discussed in an earlier post:
Yup, Fiona was an auto-automaton too. But the one that probably did the most damage was an auto-automaton of Sally’s father, King Maximillian Acorn.
He was able to infiltrate Knothole, have Sonic framed for murdering Princess Sally, sentenced him to life imprisonment in the Devil’s Gulag, and then welcomed Robotnik into Knothole with open arms.
But we all know who the real star of the robot duplicate category is, and he was first introduced in the Sonic CD adaptation in Sonic’s first milestone issue, Sonic #25.
Incorrectly named “Mecha Sonic” in this issue, Metal Sonic was programmed to race Sonic through the Stardust Speedway and lure him into a trap.
Fortunately for Sonic, Metal couldn’t keep up with him and melted his legs off trying. And Sally stopped Robotnik from springing his trap at the last second, although Sonic claimed he saw it coming a mile away anyway.
This Metal Sonic was later repaired and came back for the Knuckles’ Chaotix adaptation, and we’ve already discussed how that one worked out.
However that encounter left Metal Sonic exposed to a power gem (really creative name there, Kenny P.) and in time he was able to reconstruct himself. He decided to settle the score with Sonic first and managed to lure Sonic and Tails into a trap in Sonic #85 by sabotaging their shuttle to crash on its way back to Knothole from Station Square following the Sonic Adventure adaptation. This led into the story, “Heart of the Hedgehog,” which ran in issues #86 - #87.
Metal Sonic kidnapped Tails, strapped him up above a volcano he’d hotwired to erupt, and challenged Sonic to try and rescue him before he was barbecued. With Metal Sonic empowered by the power gem (seriously, is that really the best name they could come up with?), Sonic found himself outmatched by this new and improved model of Metal Sonic. But he realised that the power gem had also given Metal Sonic true free will (the way it had to Heavy and Bomb in the Knuckles’ Chaotix adaptation), and he and Tails were able to use this to convince Metal Sonic that there was more to life than revenge and murder.
In a surprising turn of events this Metal Sonic sacrificed itself to save Sonic and Tails from the volcano, echoing his demise in the OVA movie. This time Metal was damaged far beyond his own self-repair capabilities. However he was restored much, much later by Uncle Chuck in Sonic #238, reintroduced as “Shard the Metal Sonic.”
Having been shown the value of friendship and teamwork and given a second chance at life, Shard happily served as a member of King Elias’ Secret Freedom Fighters, attempting to undermine the rule of Elias’ deposer, Ixis Naugus.
After the incident at the volcano, Eggman waited a surprisingly long time to make a new Metal Sonic - we wouldn’t see him again until Sonic #146.
Metal Sonic became something of a butt-monkey at this point, usually being destroyed soon after he was reintroduced. By Team Sonic...
By the Suppression Squad…
By Marine the Raccoon (quite possibly the most embarrasing of all his demises)…
By an exploding roboticiser...
By himself after Eggman ordered him to self-destruct on Antoine…
And then finally he was dispatched by his own predecessor, Shard.
That particular defeat inspired Eggman though, who gave his next Metal Sonic a power gem core of its own.
This Metal Sonic was then sent to destroy Shard, resulting in an epic fight that Metal only managed to win by transmitting his data into a new body and blowing himself up again. Shard was left in a near-death state, but unfortunately we never found out if he would have survived or not because the series was rebooted right after that issue and Shard was wiped from existence.
Following the reboot Metal Sonic became a single entity - we would no longer see him get destroyed and a new one be created, instead it would just be the same robot coming back every time.
Over the years of ArchieSonic comics there were a variety of other robotic Sonics we saw. There were various incarnations of Silver Sonic or Metal Sonic Kai, and we even got Captain Metal after the reboot, which was the Metal Sonic that Marine dispatched, now transformed into a pirate. Oh, and the Tails doll deserves shoutout too, of course.
But Metal Sonic was the one that always came back for more, determined to destroy his “inferior copy.”
Whew, that was a lot of talking about robot doubles. I'm beat. And tomorrow's installment will be another long one, as we talk about multi-episode McGuffins chases. See you then!

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
Chu Wanning (The Husky and His White Cat Shizun) - I am amazed at just how much I love this character.
Tian (Atots) - Did my baby make bad choices regarding his health? Yes.
Porsche (KinnPorsche) - He is a baby and I miss him
Adachi (Cherry Magic) - It was like looking at myself and I cried the entire time.
Wen Kexing (Word of Honor) - He is my poor little mewow mewow
Nozue (Old Fashion Cupcake) - how do I explain! Nozue-san, you deserve everything.
General Choi Yeong (Faith) - he was a real life person however the drama was fictional. And he melted my heart everytime he called Eun Soo Imja so yeah.
Kyoko (Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku) - My girl resets every time she goes to sleep. It was relief coated angst and I wish there were more.
Dongfang Qingcang (Cang Lan Jue) - Sometime the villain is the hero and I am so thankful that I got to see it.
Baek Nakyum (Painter of The Night) - 3 seasons of pain and suffering and it never gets easy. He deserves to be happy.
put your top 9 favourite characters!
Kwak Hyun (Hospital Ship) - this man said she can do what she wants, my feelings about who she meets is absolutely unnecessary. So yeah the male lead saying this almost 5/6 years ago in kdrama was very rare
Kurosawa (Cherry Magic) - he saw Adachi
Eun Soo (Faith)- Kudos to Eun Soo for navigating her Goreyo era time travel experience with greed and history knowledge to survive. And also cause she bagged one of the most decorated general in that era.
Bai Qian (Ten Miles of Peach Blossom) - while I do take issue with Susu, Bai Qian kicked everyone and their mother's ass. So she definitely deserves this
Dong Yi (Dong Yi) - She was real life person from history and the character in the drama was great
Kinn (KinnPorsche) - he is out, loud and proud. Anyone that questions him gets a bullet to their head. What’s not to love?
Mo Ran (The Husky and His White Cat Shizun) - Dress him up however you want, TXZ or Mo Ran. I want him for CWN.
Phupa (ATOTS) - this forest ranger said gay dudes also live in the wilderness but can they communicate? Nooooo
Zhou Zishu (Word of Honor) - He was ready to yeet himself from existence but then he met a dude.

This one is a fade effect, takes forever! I tried with 4x4 but my favorite ones are 3x3
This comic book overlay is another one. Maybe I will try this style again.
I am scared of color overlays, but this one turned out okay.
Ooooo this was cool effect overlay I tried.

yet another ask dump yeehaw!
do you ever think that jay's mother was one of those bitch who believes in horoscope and tarots and things like that and so he believes in these things too, or it is just me projecting?
sheila haywood took one look at jason's birthchart said 'nah this won't do' and left.
Wait, but what happens when the justice league does find out that Bruce and John fucked? Lmao it sounds like it would be hilarious, really, I don’t want a justice league that doesn’t make fun of Bruce for like his entire life.
barry runs out of the meeting immediately and comes back with an entire sti testing kit. diana fully seriously wants bruce to get tested while bruce is sitting there like 'come on guys, you're being ridiculous, i already checked twice'
john is standing in the corner clearly offended while bruce is just like 'don't even say anything, constantine, you fucked a shark'
tim was like "i'm drake now" and everyone was like ahh so your fursona is a dragon and tim was like pffffft no. ducks.
on the one hand, good for him, on the other hand, bro, how do you still have a secret identity when your superhero name is just your last name,,,,
Your fic on ao3 was GOLD PLEASE CONTINUE I loved Dinah's cameo btw ( @purple-vixen
thanks so much! i already continued but this ask is like 10 years old because i'm a notorious procrastinator (also yes! i love dinah so much aahhhhhhhhhhhh)
I've FINALLY been watching the Batman animated series and I gotta say, after watching "the gray ghost" I am CONVINCED that Batman is a closeted super hero geek who was 100% freaking out the first time he met Superman and is just REALLY good at hiding it.
bruce internally: holy fuck holy shit holy fuck holy shit holy fuck holy shit holy fuck holy shit holy fuck holy shit bruce externally: get out of my city, alien
AHHH ur multimedia fic is the only thing that brings me happiness anymore continue it forever pls
uhh thanks, but can't continue it forever because my attention span is that of a toddler on crack on a good day and i can't function without at least 10 things going on at the same time and music in the background
Oi, so I'm getting into dc and watching batman the animated series, and they use fruitcake a lot. Which I thought was very funny and wanted to share w you - Denilla
wait like fruitcake (food) or fruitcake (derogatory) ?
young justice 🤝 teen titans slut shaming batman
tim drake and dick grayson to their respective teams 'you guys stop it, that's my dad'
Happyhoganon: If an eighty year old Batman had fought crime in Gotham City for decades and the only threats to him and the city lately are a wheel chair bounded Penguin, your usual purse snatchers and a few con artists popping up every now and then, how well could the Dark Knight do in maintaining the peace in Gotham despite him being just somewhat fit to do that as an elderly man (which says A LOT given how old he is)
uhh he'll probably do what my grandpa does and that is ruthlessly prank them until they die of shame.
in the death in the family interactive movie there's an ending where Jason is tasked with raising Damian and he decides he's gonna raise Damian to take down the waynes and al ghuls which uh maybe isn't great BUT the idea of Jason raising Damian... PRICELESS. CHAOTIC. I just need more people to know about this :)
yes i saw that wow holy shit but jason would accidentally drop damian on his head one (1) hour in and jason just yeets him into the lazarus pit.
Headcanon: The Penguin has a really hard time fighting any of the Robins because of his avian obsession means there's always a small part of his mind that's like "Birb. Child. Protect" ( @subspacecadet )
as soon as dick becomes nightwing the penguin is like 'you know what, fuck this dude' and shoots at him.
Y'all talking about King Shark dating Constantine, let's not forget about John literally hooking up with Satan
listen there's a clear difference between monsterfucker and satanfucker in that king shark is literally a shark and satan still looks like a normal dude
Does everyone in Gotham think Batman is a teen dad?
everyone in gotham thinks batman has been around since gotham was founded, but they do think that bruce wayne is actually a teen father and dick grayson's biological dad.
why. why would you do that fancast when you know it will only hurt people
what? i loved my fancast it was really well done. i did it with good representation in mind and i really managed that with alfred pennyworth being ✨italian✨
Seeing james charles a jason gave me psychic damage how dare you i need to wash my eyes
well that's a you problem isn't it?
do you think dick grayson thirst tweets about nightwing just to annoy his family/cause problems on purpose in general?
he thinks nightwing is hot, next question.
holy jiminy cricket batman, its as cold as the good lords ass crack in here!!
i- what? this is why i don't fuck with english expressions it's way too goddamn weird
Brooooooo, your teen dad!Bruce au is soooo good. I've got brainrot.
Honestly if you ever write anymore, I'd read that shit twice. Sign me the fuck up. Good stuff, Good Stuff.
uh yeah i'm thinking about writing a fic, but i have exams coming up and i don't wanna fail because that would suck. but after i'll certainly be writing more tho
your teen dad AU is so great! bruce acting like a big brother for all of like a week before he's telling everyone about his son. what if in the AU dick meets the JL because they need to rescue him? maybe he's in trouble/kidnapped at a gala and bruce starts calling for JL. clark finds him and has to fly with dick to bring him home - that's how dick and clark meet and superman becomes dick's fave hero. he goes around the manor thinking he can fly with a red blanket draped around him like a cape.
actually- if you want a young dad! bruce fic with like that kinda stuff(just with damian) go check uhh- in for a penny by cdelphiki. it's really good and bruce is like 24/25-ish. (and dick's there!!!)
This account has solely convinced me that Tim is a trash goblin ( @hamilcat-and-magic-turtle )
because he is. that boy has slept in dumpsters on multiple occasions even if he is the son of a billionaire.
Okay but when you said victory dance I did think of the whole justice league defeating the big bad and then they all start flossing
well that's exactly what hal jordan does and that's why batman uses a gun now. no but the victory dance in my opinion is like the 'we're all in this together' dance from high school musical.
The horrors in Invincible s1 was nothing compared to the comics, I cant wait for s2
oh well okay, i mean i personally react to horror and violence by laughing awkwardly so i can't wait to be called a monster for accidentally laughing at a mass murder.
I'm currently watching Batman: The Brave and The Bold and- Bruce is just talking about Oliver like he's an old love (@nightwings-kid)
okay im going to watch that lmao that's totally and completely in character for him tho.
The invincible comic is like super gratuitous with its violence so much so I'm shocked the show was able to adapt it in a faithful way! Anyway had the show been live action it absolutely wouldn't have the same impact as it does as an animated show and I'm so glad so many people agree with me on that
also because a live action casting would've been like uhh amanda stenberg for amber, the dude- the guy from the supernatural but with a mustache for omni-man, and scarlet johanssen for debbie grayson
Debbie grayson is a milf, yes. You're welcome for the invincible propoganda, now you can questions your life. Bruce def seems like the perfect father next to Omni-man. Like they really took a rip off justice league and I was like well, now I'm attached even tho I was like hah I know who they're supposed to be. And then bam- death gore death gore gore gore sad Mark grayson just had to have daddy issues. Why does every character have daddy issues. I'm sick of the attacks
because daddy issues make a person arguably funnier, that's why i'm not even remotely funny (haha good dad flex). i liked that it was dark contextually, but not in the colouring, bc i hate when it's like 'uh yeah graphic murder and now a shot so dark you have to sit in a dark room and squint at the screen to faintly see the characters. (like dcau ugh)
About the Wayne insurance, for a moment I thought you would put the video with moans over the waves.
i mean- i could've done that, but rick rolling seemed more family friendly.
Its the first time in forever that im surpise rickrolled, i usually expect it. Congratulations (i really should know better this is tumblr)
i get rickrolled so often but i actually like the song so i dont really give a fuck
Actually, my information about Damian and John's kids is outdated because it was revealed that the old men telling the kids stories about the Supersons were actually Jon and Damian the whole time. I was blinded by my thirst for Grandpa!Bruce Wayne but I was wrong... I liked my version better, tbh (@artemisa97)
fair enough. but i'd honestly like to see damian and jon getting together, just because it's a really fun dynamic and their friendship was really cute when they were kids. (also idk maybe it would be nice to have one (1) main batfam/superfam character that's not cishet)
How am i JUST finding your blog skdskfkd you're so fucking funny and ur takes are hot
i thought u were calling me hot :( but youre not :( crime detected (but lmao thanks)
So I have depression and I swear that your memes are one of the few things that have made me laugh so thank you 💛🥺 (@katekanebadass)
aw you're welcome, and i hope you're doing okay!
The metropolis memes are so funny, I love them 💀😌
i think metropolis is also so fucking funny it deserves more attention imagine having your entire police force being upstaged by an alien from kansas and his kids
as an american i feel your complete lack of knowledge of us geography is just so sexy (platonic) ❤️
thanks so much (i also don't know any other geography, i'm not kidding, like you can tell me you're from hungary and it will just blank, there will be nothing that comes to mind)
In the DC universe they don't say "Can't have shit in Detroit" they say "Can't have shit in Gotham"
this just reminds me of that guy whose porch got stolen like the steps to his door, and i'm thinking of people living in gotham and waking up without a front door and going "can't have shit in gotham"
honestly all i know about chicago is the bean, so. what would gotham's famous sculpture be?
gigantic gargoyle statue in front of one of the police precincts because a villain thought it was a smart way to keep the police inside, but it's too heavy to move.
why tf do people go on about how batman "works alone" or how he's the "lone wolf" when he like 38290202 members in his family
bc people think it's cool that a grown man in his 30s has no friends or family instead of calling it what it is (sad)
Bruce is gotham's sugar daddy
why would say something so controversial yet so brave.
my favorite batfamily fanfictions are the ones where they use their shitty codenames, unironically, in any context
dick: gerard way are you in position, gerard way are you in position
tim: for the last fucking time, my codename is 'totally not count olaf' this week, abbafan 3000
dick: shut up my codename isn't 'abbafan 3000'
dick: it's 'abbafan number 1' and you know it
I have a feeling Tim drake is ur favourite batfamily member but okay u don't have favs if u say so ok
i mean he is, i won't deny it. but i love each and every one of the batfam just the same, i just have a weak spot for short dumbass nerds, because i'm a short dumbass nerd.
Omg i fuckin love boy meets world too fam shsjkfk
bro boy meets world was the shit!!! it was just fire and awesome and so fucking great like bro. it was so good im not even going to be accepting criticism
you know I find the whole "joker completes batman" thing a bit disgusting considering the horrendous stuff the batfamily went through because of the joker and let's not get started on the "joker has a point" thing like yeah he's this cool complex villain but he's absolutely batshit crazy
like yes! i get what you mean the joker just fucking sucks man he doesn't do shit for batman's character or the batfam he's literally just annoying as fuck. like the joker has a point' shit is so stupid. i will accept 'magneto was right' because he fucking was and i think he didn't do anything wrong, but joker? he's just like that. he's not even cool and complex he's just a weirdo with a bleach kink at this point.
ALSO YOUR RACISM POST- SO TRUE BESTIE
thanks bestie, i'm glad you agree.
in today's essay of why I think cass should become batman- I was thinking Tim would probably be the most efficient batman in many ways but I also think he wouldn't want to be batman tbh none of the batfamily members would want to be batman because they're trying to outgrow him but cass is the one who wants to represent the symbol that is batman
absofuckinglutely i will say it again and again that cass represents the batsymbol more than anyone in the batfam, in batgirl (2000) she literally didn't care about anything else than bruce's oath to not kill, she thought the batsymbol was more important than anything in gotham. she's just an excellent character because her motivation to not kill is not 'i'm scared i can't come back from it' or 'well my dad says no murder so i'll go along with it' but that she's killed somebody as a young child and she never wants to kill a human ever again and that's so fucking beautiful for a new batman like yes.
need more cass, duke and tim inclusion in gothamite memes
yes yes, a tall order of cass, duke and tim coming up in 1-14 business days
oldest to youngest batfam members cus I'm confused as shit
okay order of being taken in: dick, jason, tim, cass, damian, duke order of age: alfred, bruce, dick, cass, jason, tim, duke, damian (though cass and jason are around the same age general consensus is that cass is a little older)
I'm so confused Steph is a redhead?? like how was it that hard to get this right? the source material is literally right there and free
cw is jared, 19
do you receive anon hate? if so, how do you deal with it
uh no, i'm not remotely popular enough to get anon hate and i also don't say a lot of things that would attract anon hate, but i do send anon hate to @the-real-peter-parker because he forgot about the specialists from winx club
Wait how many languages do you speak??
uhh- 5 if you include latin, but that's a dead language and i'm really bad at it. but english, my native language, german, and french also, tho german and french not fluently.
You can mix aguaepanela with aguardiente 😈 and is tasty
okay but now i'm curious if the liquor deserves the 😈 emoji or if that's a you problem. but i googled it and it looks like something you'd take one sip of and then not remember the rest of your evening.
#i love all of you guys so much thanks for all these asks#some of these are literally from march but fuck it#the day tumblr puts dates next to anon messages is the day i close my inbox crawl into a hole and die#it's such a basic task to answer asks but i don't want to bother anyone with asks clogging up their timeline#and if i don't have a funny or good answer i'm like 'uhh okay won't answer it now then'#so this is for you#also i deleted a few asks because it gives me mental pain to see my inbox go over 50 and it's almost at 100#i was complaining about having too many asks to the-real-peter-parker like months ago and then i had 45 asks in my inbox#now it's amassed to going over 100 twice#but no i love all of you and you're great and you're all fantastic and i lvoe you#muchos kiss kiss#kiss kiss for my kiddies lvoe you#invincible spoilers#dc#dcu#dc comics#ask#anon#bataranswers#i really wanna try aguapanela now i'm gonna see if i can find panela somewhere and review it for you babes#uh yeah that's it#muchos gracias for all your questions babes

So based on asks regarding her, you prefer calling Raven by just that name as opposed to Rachel Roth, which at least starting since the Geoff Johns Titans has been her civilian name? Just genuinely curious about that and your opinion about Raven having a civilian name like Rachel?
I haven't actually read Teen Titans 2003. I skimmed a few issues for research for the which Raven are you quiz but that's about it. To me she's Raven not Rachel. Rachel is the HBO max girl. I just like her characterization more in comics like ntt where she goes by Raven.
I'm not really a fan that she was given a civilian name and all the stuff that came with it (her earth family and such). I haven't read a ton of it but I feel like that separates a part of her character - that she's not from earth, and part of her story is learning to adjust to earth customs. Like there's a scene where she's in college and the professor is like Raven... and she's like just Raven. Idk I liked that she didn't change it or choose a new name, because it was in character for her as someone who doesn't really care about fitting in or social expectations (or really understands social expectations) because of the way she was raised. I think it's something that's been missing from her character.
A lot of writers just sort of peg her as the "goth" one because idk her cloak is purple but like. Eh. I think it's a shallow reading of her as a character for her only personality trait to be goth. And I think giving her a civilian ID kind of chipped away at the other personality traits and boxed her more into the "normal" way heroes are supposed to be. It also takes away her deep connection with the Titans. She like lived a Titans Tower for a long time canonically because she literally had no other place to go. Rachel Roth has a family. Raven was alone. I guess to me it takes away part of that story. It's cool and fun and memorable for writers to pull crazy stunts and give characters long lost family members, but I wish they explored her relationships with her found family (the Titans) more, or wrote stories about how Raven was struggling with the loss of her mother and the loss of Azarath.
Anyways maybe one day I'll read Teen Titans 2003 and change my mind but skimming and seeing Raven with a tramp stamp yeeted my consciousness straight to Azarath so maybe not.
#asks#raven#momo let me know if i'm wrong you know her better than me#character analysis#i guess#idk i wrote stuff

Just take this in for a moment. Some naysayers LOVE to argue that Kara isn't gay or pan or whichever term you wanna use, in the comics (except for that one timeline but that technically doesn't count either) and therefore, supercorp can't be endgame?
Hahaha can't? Really? Look, this is an ADAPTATION of a comic book character and the stories surrounding that character. Not a shot for shot remake! They can pretty much do what they want and take the characters in whichever direction they want. And they have! A few examples:
- creation of Alex Danvers and the Danvers backstory for Kara
- The fucking DEO
- Sam as Reign's human side and Sam's offspring Ruby
- Kelly Olsen
- Livewire as Supergirl's villain and not Superman's
- Winn
Need I go on?
I know that for the most part, they've spent these past six seasons retelling Superman stories (which is such a disservice to the rich comic book history SG has but that's a separate rant). But let's entertain the notion that this is a 'true portrayal' and that the showrunners are concerned with honouring the content.
I would love to then cast a spotlight on Mr. Querl Dox. He is the most consistent love interest for Kara in the comics and even in antimated shows. She dated Valor (who Mon El is based off of but starkly different too) a handful of times in comparison to Brainy and yet, no one really talks about that. If they really wanted to follow comic lore, he would've been a LI and Kara's endgame romance but it was clear from minute one that that was NOT their intention. And I guarantee you if it was, their casting choice for the role would've been way different (based off what they have chosen all the time: tall, muscular, dick to kara).
But even more than that, when is Kara's sexuality ever explicitly discussed? Sure she tells Winn she isn't gay in S1 but that doesn't automatically mean she's straight. In fact, I would think that sexuality doesn't even register to Kara. Just look at how confused she was during Alex's coming out - like she really couldn't understand why this was such a huge deal and the gravity behind Alex finally accepting this part of herself. Based off what we know about Krypton (and that's not including comics) what indication is there that their society cares about sexuality?
Why would the matrix give a damn about a person's gender, much less sexuality? Those things have literally no bearing on compatibility for their society's purposes. Bonding (or marriage) was arranged and the main thing was to benefit both Houses and the advancement of the planet. Again, gender would not play into this, they didn't procreate naturally, probably didn't even have sex recreationally either! So no, an advanced society like that that has perfected genetics? Yes they did not give a fuck about sexuality and gender.
And since Kara spent the first 13 years of her life there, I doubt she does either or even thinks about it. Maybe to fit in she conditioned herself to only show outward attraction to men and thought that that meant she'd be 'normal'.
Until Lena made it near impossible to do that anymore. Until Lena flirts and fills her office with flowers and goes on a date with Jack that she crashes like an unhinged, possessive lunatic. Until Lena buys CatCo without hesitation, treats Kara with respect and supports her career, inspired her to be her best self. Until Lena who she can't walk away from despite cutting things off with James before they even start or yeeting her so called epic love into space or shutting down William only to go out with him after yet another rejection at a partnership with Lena.
And the CW has the ability to make lasting change with a Supercorp endgame. Not only can this help pave the way for other queer characters in the future but also has the promise of permeating into the comic book lore. DC comics could potentially look at this and say 'fuck, we want this too' and boom, we have Lena and Kara together in future Supergirl issues. I seem to remember a similar thing happening for Harley Quinn so it's not like DC doesn't know where the fans and money are. Hopefully, the CW will too.
#honestly tho#this 'kara isn't gay' argument has no legs#she spent her formative years on krypton#a society that transcended the societal constructions restricting gender n sexuality#n lena has never been confirmed as anything either#NEVER#dating 'only men' is a stupid argument#plus there is a lot of time between boarding school and her move to NC#we don't know exactly what she was doing n who she was doing it with#only what they showed us#plus there is no way lena n andrea didnt experiment at st helena#so the ball is really in your court @cw#choose wisely#supercorp

WANDAVISION SERIES FINALE THOUGHTS
WHOEVER’S CUTTING ONIONS NEEDS TO S T O P.
hayward | i was one of the many few who really wished death on the man cause he’s just the worst. this man emptied his clip at two children. i’m glad jimmy was able to pull a fast one on this dick and that darcy hit him with the ice cream truck and very happy to see the man being taken away in cuffs.
vision vs. vision | while i would’ve enjoyed seeing them fight it out until one completely lost, it wouldn’t be vision without some philosophic conversation. it’s true vision fashion. he doesn’t fight unless it’s a last resort. he’s logical and can assess other means in which to deter a foe. truly enjoyed the scene and now i’m just curious as to where tf white vision yeeted off to after regaining the memories from hex!vision? some have speculated possibly wakanda since that is the place where he died. twice. i would love to see him possibly interact with shuri since she would’ve appeared in the memory montage that hex!vision provided him with alongside other events from infinity war.
agatha (aka not mephisto) | overall, i loved agatha as a character and i’m glad she wasn’t killed off by the end of the series. i know she was more villainous in the show but i’m glad they somewhat neutralized her even if it was by cruel punishment brought upon by wanda to keep her trapped in westview as a nosy neighbor. it keeps the door open for us to see more interactions between her and wanda. i’m also glad that she was the foe wanda had to go against. i know many (like myself) speculated mephisto would appear and be revealed but i’m happy i was wrong about that. this is the first entry into phase four and to spill out a big bad right away? probably not the best move. i know ant-man 3 is planning on introducing kang the conqueror so i wouldn’t be shocked if mephisto is used as a red herring to distract us from the actual big bad of the phase, kang the conqueror (while still keeping mephisto around obviously for future battles and possibly use him as a big bad down the road).
family is forever | i was sobbing when seeing the hex start shrinking down in the distance outside the boys’ window. i love that wanda and vision made the move to put them to bed as a way of saying goodbye so they wouldn’t have to see them disappear. i hope to see these same boys come back cause i think no matter what your theory was on them, viewers fell in love with them. if planning for young avengers, i cannot wait to see them be a part of it. given that these boys weren’t real and not actually wanda’s children, i think they’ll go the route that they’ll find each other even if not as a blood related family but reincarnations that know that wanda was their mother in one instance and see her as a mother figure (alongside their actual mothers, of course). i just love them and i really wish they stuck around but i know this won’t be the last time we see them!
wanda’s outfit | i love it and i think pays homage to her comic book costume while still fitting the aesthetic of wanda and the mcu. love the attention to detail and the pattern on her headpiece. someone on here also pointed out in a post how it resembles magneto’s suit and it makes me love it more because of that. in conclusion, this is the scarlet witch and she’s hot.
wanda and vision’s farewell | if i was sobbing at billy and tommy’s fate, i was wailing by the time these two started saying goodbye. we learn that the main reason vision was able to be created the way he was by wanda was because of the mind stone. while she is the scarlet witch, she was exposed to and enhanced by the mind stone that ended up becoming vision. like she said, it’s a part of her. he lives on in her and overall, this scene just cemented that these two are meant to be together. they are going to be that power couple in the mcu moving forward, together or apart. we know these two are meant for each other and have so much love for each other and will find their way back always. while they may change, the one thing you can bet your ass on is that they fucking love each other.
ralph bohner | the twist that no one saw coming - peter is ralph. it’s clear that he was being controlled by agatha because the moment monica took off the necklace, he woke up from her spell. a lot of people are swirling around to say that he’s probably woo’s missing person. we don’t know that and it’s something that’s left unconfirmed. while i would’ve enjoyed the reveal to be peter actually being peter from the x-men universe, i’m also happy he isn’t. yes there was a lot of fanfare and hope for this series to introduce the multiverse but in retrospect, it would’ve been too much to throw at us at the beginning of phase four. throwing in the multiverse right away would’ve taken away from the series being about wanda (separate point i’ll get to at the end). do hope to see evan peters in a future mcu project, though!
wanda’s story moving forward | i hope wanda becomes a sort of anti-hero for the future. this does set up her appearance in doctor strange 2 and i can’t wait to see what she does. while agatha said she’s destined to destroy the world and her power exceeds the sorcerer supreme’s, i hope the writers don’t make wanda into this villain that loses her logic because of extreme power. wanda has proven agatha wrong already by acknowledging the error in her ways. when she realized she was hurting the people of westview, she let them go and stopped hurting them. she learned that yes, she is hurting them without knowing so what she has to do is let them go. wanda has learned throughout her years with the avengers the consequences her powers can have on people. we know she’s never been trained by a witch and yes, that makes her dangerous with her chaos magic. the second post credit scene shows us that she’s determined to teach herself even if it’s through the darkhold. in seeing what she’s done and the power she holds, i think wanda will be this gray moral character. she holds a great deal of power, the most powerful being on the planet at the moment, and that can cloud her judgement at times. despite being an avenger, this show has really shown us that wanda is alone. while she was with the avengers, what have they really done? they kept her in check and helped her utilize her powers for good but then when civil war happened, she was detained and treated like a weapon of mass destruction. the avengers are clearly nonexistent and those that are around, haven’t bothered with her. i also hope that this new phase of marvel kinda tears down the original avengers and their actions because while intentions were good, not everything or everyone was perfect and there’s consequences. and i hope those consequences are shown through the main characters of this phase like wanda.
the complaints | while i loved this show so so much, i did have some issues. while i enjoyed that this show fleshed out more of wanda’s past, i’m sad that they didn’t confirm or at least try to make wanda jewish since they completely erased her romani roots from the comics. this goes back to my whole thing with representation which i’ve mentioned before in response to an article. while i love elizabeth olsen’s portrayal and care she has for wanda, a romani actress still should’ve been cast from the beginning. the least they could’ve done was at least make her jewish even if ever so subtly because that is the other half of wanda’s identity, even if it’s been retconned often. if they are never going to confirm her as magneto’s daughter in the mcu, at least honor that aspect of her identity if you’ve erased one major one already. representation matters and i wish they tried to do right by the character since they clearly paid close attention to other aspects of her comic book history and took a deep dive into her mental health. come at me for these thoughts but i’ll stand by them. another is just directed at the press for the show (i’m looking at you paul bettany). while fans went ham on the theories and marvel will do anything to misdirect you, i think there should’ve been a clear up from marvel about bettany’s claims of a big cameo coming in the series when it was about himself. i get you don’t want to spoil the show and the big surprises it may hold for the audience but still. i think there should’ve been someone behind the scenes or bettany’s publicist could’ve kinda told him to stop hinting at a super duper big cameo. yes, fans got carried away but i think when you’re doing press for marvel, it should be somewhat common knowledge that fans are going to analyze and try to figure out wtf is gonna happen. it’s fun theorizing, don’t get me wrong but when it’s gone the way it has for this show, i think it leaves a lot of people unsatisfied. i’ll admit i was being a clown thinking i’d see patrick stewart as professor x again since he’s an actor paul’s never worked with before and would be a huge fan service for the audience like in the mandalorian season finale. tldr; crazy fan theories comes with the territory. my final grievance actually has to do with the set up for monica’s engineer. i was also hoping we’d someone big or someone that could be big in the future, possibly it was a skrull at the end but the tone and way monica talked about it, i think it was underwhelming to see a character that we came not to care too much about.
final thoughts | overall, i loved this show and it was refreshing to see marvel embrace the magical side of their universe as it continues to expand. the cast was amazing. everyone in the cast and crew deserve awards because this really gave us a show about wanda. i think a lot of people lost that (including myself) with all the theorizing; goes back to my complaint about press for the show. it gave us a show that dealt with trauma and grief in a way we haven’t seen before in marvel’s cinematic universe. i’ll admit i didn’t care much for wanda as i did with the others but this show made me care for her a lot more and made me a bigger fan of her and vision’s story. it grounded itself in dealing with wanda’s grief and trauma in a new way while also exploring her character more. so i’m happy that we didn’t get a super big cameo or that the multiverse wasn’t confirmed because then the tone and attention would’ve shifted away from this story being about her. i hope marvel can give us shows like this that make us care about a character’s emotions and feelings rather than just how cool and badass they look in a suit. it was clear that the cast and crew made this with such love and care that had good storytelling and kept us on edge every week. i hope that marvel can show us these types of stories and ranges from characters in future movies as well.

aaaaarghhhhh just thinking about my comic script and realising that the plot point that made me Mildly Uncomfortable But Felt Probably Ok in 2015 is like. about the worst possible idea from a 2021 perspective. so I'm going to need to rethink the whole script again if I ever want to use it
like. It's a noir tragedy and part of the story is adapting The Bacchae, which involves a powerful man trying to break into a space of wild women in order to spy and destroy it, dressing as a woman, being exposed by his inability to act like a Fucking Person, and being torn apart and destroyed.
and I had it as a musing on lesbophobia and cishet men's fixation on queer women as a symbol of both fetishised sexuality and horror and the ways that that (in my life and others) has manifested in violence, with like a cathartic murder and then ultimately a tragic ending touching on the criminalisation of survivors. But it did retain the element of Pentheus dressing as a woman to enter women's spaces and assault women, and I tried very hard and worked with some pals who are trans women to try and make sure that my script and thumbnails draw a clear distinction between Pentheus the man-entering-a-woman's-space-deceitfully and trans women who are just Being. like half of the protagonists are trans wlw, I tried to be explicit about the difference between what Pentheus was doing vs what the women he was targeting were doing, I did my best to avoid transphobic tropes about like drawing Pentheus as a Stubbly Invading Man In A Dress and all the ~good trans women~ as being Perfectly Feminine, and the story I was telling intended to be pretty explicit about the fact that people prefer to twist the truth to frame the actions of cishet white men as a reason to exclude marginalised people.
so like, it isn't that I hadn't noticed the issue in 2015. and part of the reason that I haven't carried this work forwards over the interceding few years is that it is very much About Bigotry and some of that (misogyny, homophobia, ableism) is in forms I've experienced but a lot of the stories are About racism and transphobia and homophobia against men specifically and as someone who doesn't experience that I think it's risky to write those stories unless it really is being done Extremely Right and very carefully and with a lot of discussion.
but. In 2015 I thought this was justifiable. six years later with TERF rhetoric and policy so absolutely mainstreamed I don't think there's any way to do the Bacchae storyline in a way that isn't open to TERFery. however explicit the story is about trans women having an entirely deserved space in closed wlw communities I can't think that there's any way to handle the image of a man dressing up as a woman to spy on and assault women that doesn't play into the utter bullshit ideas that are unfortunately mainstreamed about The Trans Menace. even if you're explicit about that person not being trans even if every part of his story is very clear about his cisness and his motivations it still fundamentally comes back around to the image of a man in a wig pretending to be a woman to invade spaces that are closed to men. which is fucked.
and idk it sucks a bunch to have to yeet this whole script. there was a lot I really liked in it and of all the stories in Underworld Blues it was in many ways the most personal for me, it touched on the joys of queer community, polyamory, of defining womanhood in your own ways, and very directly on the ways that power and spite and entitlement can absolutely destroy that. like the story I wrote was very about My Trauma (me me me it's about me) and the frustrating thing is that honestly the beginning and end points I think are salvageable, but I'm not sure how I'd reconstruct the story to include the ideas about safe and unsafe spaces and the treatment of wlw spaces as playgrounds for straight cis men with an expectation of power while excising the bits that are. a) kind of grossly gender essentialist by accident, implying that the problem with men is that they're The Enemy rather than that some cishet men are socialised to entitlement and b) feeding into some EXTREMELY transphobic ideas about gender expression as costume and about the deceptiveness people associate with that idea.
like six years ago I talked this through with trans friends and we discussed the need to feel able to (carefully) risk writing problematic shit and being prepared to be held to account but ultimately it seemed justifiable. it doesn't now. if I could think of a way to get Pentheus from point a) which is 'the Gay Parties Are A Threat To Our Ordered Society I'm Going To Spy Creepily On Them' to point b) which is 'Pentheus attempts to take advantage of what he percieves as a consequence-free environment to do what he wants, Is Rightly Shot Dead' while retaining the stuff I want it to say about gender, queerness, power, judgement, sexualisation and rape culture, I would. but I'm. not good at original plot points that's why this is an adaptation of Greek plays.
so. idk. this thing might need to go off the backburner and in the bin for now. which sucks.

Things Riot should do differently for K/DA’s next comeback
Currently in K/DA hell and while I adore the concept, there’s a lot of things I would personally tweak. So without further ado, my unorganized thoughts proposals!
1. Bring back the original toony style of Popstars (+ True Damage).
Let’s admit it, guys. Popstars is way more iconic than any of the All Out videos. Popstars was very unique looking, with the models, painted skin textures, simple environments and toon lighting. Then there’s the exaggerated animation itself, which helped give the characters so much personality that the realism of MORE failed to replicate.
They can still put these characters in a realistic environment with this style. They’ve already done so with True Damage, and it feels a lot more successful there because, well, they still look like cartoon characters. Not cartoon characters trying to be real.
Unfortunately, a lot of the music videos and artwork from All Out are criticized for looking uncanny. And honestly, it does feel that way sometimes. It’s especially obvious in the “live” interviews with Yadong and Genius, where the movements are straight up distracting. This sucks, because I otherwise enjoy the concept of mixing characters with real life. But speaking of interviews...
2. Get better writers!
So Riot was generous and gave us a lot of written content this time around, with comics, social media posts, and interviews. But personally, I found them to be kiiinda lacking. Like, the writers tried to make these characters super inspirational every chance they had, and I guess that makes sense because they’re trying to imitate influencers. Yet in the process of that, they sacrifice core character traits like Ahri’s passive aggressiveness or Akali’s cockiness. These are fictional characters man, they don’t have to be perfect and they are much more interesting when they aren’t. And no, I’m not gonna just take Akali’s word for it, I WANT to see her “get pretty mad”. A secretly imperfect idol group is a fun concept to explore, since it’s the opposite of what an idol group is supposed to be like in real life. The writers should take advantage of this fact.
Moving on to K/DA Harmonies, I liked the comics, especially the issues that focused on the origins of the band, but in the future I think that they should get a new artist if they decide to do more. Most of the art felt stiff, which made it a little harder to get invested. Art is sooo important for this type of storytelling, and if the art isn’t interesting then the story can also become less interesting to the reader.
Finally, I’d like to mention that every interview was literally the same, the members keep being asked the same questions. What’s the point of having 3 seperate interviews at that point? Give us a little more variety, would ya?
3. Improve the voice direction.
Minor nitpick but I think the members’ voices could’ve been directed better in their Spotify + farewell clips, they don’t speak as naturally as they do in game? Like it feels like they’re reading off a script. Also Akali probably should have her in game voice. I don’t mind Shannon Williams, I’m one of the few who likes her voice for K/DA Akali, but they rarely utilize her bilingualism, so what’s the point? All it did was make people mad. :/
4. Collab with more lesser known artists!
In the lore, K/DA are all about discovering new talent and bringing them to the spotlight, which is super sweet. So I want that to translate more into the music as well. There was a start with Lexie Liu and Jasmine Clarke (as Seraphine), so maybe they can bring more exposure to artists in the future. I would have even more respect for them if they did! Also they should collab with Pentakill for the lols, I mean Babymetal and Dreamcatcher are a thing so anything is possible.
5. More variety in song structure + content.
I keep seeing the criticism that all K/DA songs sound the same. While each of them are sonically different enough, it distracts us from the issue at hand: song structure. Yeah, K/DA songs have almost identical song structure when it comes to the lyrics and how they’re formatted. The K/DA formula is basically this:
Intro > First verse > Prechorus > Chorus > Second + Third verse > Prechorus > Chorus > Bridge > Chorus > Outro
The only songs that break this formula are The Baddest and Drum Go Dum. No wonder why they’re my favorites xddd
People also say that the lyrics are kinda bare bones, but honestly what are they expecting? This is pop music lmao. There’s never going to be deep material. It would be cool to see more stuff like I’ll Show You in terms of lyrical themes tho. Or just anything that isn’t “yo look at how cool we are”.
6. let soyeon sing
Soyeon can sing as well as rap, and it would kill me to hear Akali sing something beautiful k thx.
Annnd that’s it! Yeet. Stan Akali. ...This is how Kpop fans talk to each other right?

SILVER THE COSMIC TIME-JANITOR (or: dude, what's with all the alternate futures)
silver the hedgehog has a very simple backstory. he's a kindhearted, sorta-naive but altogether very driven psychic hedgehog here to save the world by time-traveling to the past (also known as present-day) to prevent the apocalyptic future he was born into from coming to pass!
[ID: A screenshot of Silver from Sonic 06. He’s glowing with cyan energy as he flies over a dark, post-apocalyptic city.]
...wait, if he's time traveling 200 years into the past to completely change the shape of the timeline, how do the stars manage to align such that he manages to be born at the exact same point in the new timeline with the exact same genetics? how are his parents born? does silver have parents?? and how does he do this no less than THREE SEPARATE TIMES??!
hey everyone, i'm tumblr user neutral-emerald here to make good on the idea i vaguely gestured at yesterday and point out silver's wildly inconsistent backstory(s) and then explain to you how this isn't just sega playing hopscotch with the concept of time travel, but actually TOTALLY EXPLAINABLE if you don't mind a whole lot of conjecture and "fuck dude i just think it'd be cool."
LET'S GO.
before i get started, a few things to establish.
first, this is about… half serious, tops. it’s less of a theory and more of an observation of something that’s weird and then throwing some possible explanations at it because i am a massive sucker for time-based nonsense. if you wanna take my observations and build your own conclusions, go for it. i’m not your boss.
second, i'm basing my conclusions off of both the games and the idw comics. the conclusions i draw are applicable to either continuity, but the logic does rest a decent amount on the comics, so just a heads-up in case you were expecting pure game canon from this.
and third, i'm working off like half a brain and very intermittent checks of the wiki and cutscene compilations, so there's probably many things i'm missing! if you notice something i said was wildly off-base, go ahead and correct me in the replies and i'll either edit the post or explain to you just how that detail doesn't actually matter, depending on whether it. y'know. matters.
with that out of the way, let's get into the first topic of discussion!
part 1: the future is inconsistent, y'all
now, i'm not sure if you've heard, but in the year 2006 sonic team released this little indie game creatively entitled Sonic the Hedgehog. it was a smash hit, won countless awards, and for some reason went down in history as a messy, incomplete bugfest. but that's not what matters. what matters is that it introduced Silver the Hedgehog.
silver hails from 200 years in the future. the world is a bleak, fiery place, and has been since the monster iblis was unleashed after princess elise's death. silver was born into this world, which we know since it's literally the first thing he says in his story.
[ID: A cropped line from Silver's story in Sonic 06. "This world was devastated before I was born."]
i'm not going to drag you through a beat-by-beat summary of the entire plot of sonic 06, you should know it already. silver meets mephiles, gets lied to about who caused the apocalypse, mephiles yeets him and blaze into the past, he tries to murder Sonic the Hedgehog™, and so on. eventually he helps kill god, and then sonic and elise travel further back in time to kill god even deader so that none of the game ever happened, and the bad future into which silver was born never happened, thus thoroughly scrubbing silver's existence from the timeline!
...until.
sonic rivals.
i'm not going to speak much on sonic rivals, mostly because i'm not super familiar with it. but what matters is that silver is back! he's still from the future, he's still here to change the past, and most importantly he wasn't deleted from existence by the destruction of solaris, unlike everything else from sonic 06 including everyone's memories of it. and obviously, whatever state his future is in, it's not the same as it was in sonic 06.
now, i don't have a single clue what is going on in rivals 2, so do inform me if there's some big information i'm missing from that one. all i know is he's fixing yet another possible apocalyptic future, like always. correct me if i’m wrong, i don’t have the patience to trawl through it myself.
then we've got sonic colors, in which silver is again from the future. notably, he’s definitely not from an apocalypse!
[ID: Some screenshots from the DS version of Sonic Colors, again cropped to just the text. Tails and Silver are talking to each other.
Tails: What's the future you came from like, Silver? Silver: A lot brighter than this. Silver: The sky is blue, and everybody's got a smile.]
sonic generations doesn't add much. again, correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think we learn anything about what kind of future silver is from, and he's definitely not here to fix it this time. that's sonic's job! he's just hanging out like everyone else.
now, up until this point the future has been reasonably consistent, setting aside my somewhat abstract understanding of the rivals games. there's nothing to say that silver's not coming back in time from the same point in a single timeline, which is the one and only version of the future ever since the destruction of sonic 06.
UNTIL.
[ID: Two panels from the comic Sonic Forces: Stress Test. In the first panel, Silver looks worried as he lands in front of Knuckles, who looks skeptical.
Silver: We've got big trouble! Eggman— Knuckles: How can you be here? I thought you returned to the future?
In the second panel, Knuckles looks away with a self-assured grin, while Silver looks more panicked.
Knuckles: Oh wait— I must be dreaming! Silver: What? No! I've come back with a dire warning from the future!]
i have a lot of issues with sonic forces, especially with how its story is written. something i do NOT take issue with is the supplemental comics, mainly because they are WONDERFUL evidence for my crackpot time travel theory.
like i said, up until this point we don't really know whether silver has been experiencing separate instances of the future, or simply traveling back in time to prevent an also-time-traveling eggman nega from messing things up in the past. but here, we get some very juicy information:
[ID: Knuckles and Silver again. Knuckles has his arms crossed and is looking at Silver, who has a nervous look on his face as he slams a fist on the palm of his other hand.
Knuckles: Come again? Silver: Something happens that brings the world to ruin! But the historical records are sparse or make no sense. I came back to hopefully head off whatever's about to happen and save the future.]
silver travels back in time to prevent a terrible apocalypse. this is not the beautiful future silver came from in sonic colors— but this is the same silver. everyone recognizes him. he recognizes everyone. and yet, the future he came from is different.
part 2: silver is a walking paradox
allow me to remind you of what i pointed out when i was talking about sonic 06. silver was born into the iblis-apocalypse. considering no elaborate timeline nonsense happened to him before the events of the game (by his reckoning) i think we can safely assume he was born like a regular person with parents.
in the first post-06 timeline, silver was probably also born. let's be charitable, acknowledge that sonic team doesn't overthink the butterfly effect like i do, and say that silver was born to the same parents, because the universe likes to keep things nice and simple and contrive itself to make this particular character exist in this time period.
so, it's entirely fair that silver comes to exist in a post-06 timeline at the equivalent point in time, aka 200 years in the future. it's also fair that he travels back in time to prevent some kind of apocalypse, because that's his narrative role! it's what he does. when it's time for him to exist in the story, that's what he's there to do.
what isn't fair is the fact that it keeps happening.
[ID: A panel from the IDW comics. Sonic is stretching his legs while looking faintly exasperated at Silver, who is nervously holding his arm.
Silver: Er… No. I came back because defeating Eggman didn't save the future. Sonic: Couldn't even play along. Had to bring the mood down. Sonic: *sigh* Okay, what happened this time?]
[ID: The following panel, cropped to just Silver's text bubbles narrating over a starry sky.
Silver: When I left, my time had been conquered by the Eggman Empire. Everyone lived in fear, choking on polluted air. Silver: When I went back, the Eggman Empire was gone— but so was everyone else. Silver: There was nothing left. No people, no animals, no machinery. Only water and sparse, metallic plant life.]
allow me to summarize my understanding of all this: silver is from the future. normally, the future is good. sometimes it isn't. when it isn't good, he goes back in time and fixes things, then returns to the future to check if that fixed things.
the least conjecture-y interpretation i can come up with is that sometimes silver will go into the past, then go back to the future but end up in a Bad Timeline and thus go into the past again to fix things. there's no weird warping directly between bad timelines, he only gets there by way of the past.
but that's boring, so here's my PREFERRED interpretation.
silver hails from a good future, but sometimes it just changes. he's unstuck from time— if something weird happens in the past, he's the only one to know that the passage of fate was changed, because he went to bed in one timeline and woke up somewhere categorically worse, and the only way he can fix it is by figuring out just what caused this and going back in time to fix it.
or, to say it in a meme:
[ID: A picture of someone lying in a hospital bed with a nurse standing next to them, edited so that Silver is in the bed.
nurse: sir… you've been asleep for 2 hours silver: oh boy i can't wait to wake up in the same timeline i went to sleep in]
part 3: how did this happen?
it's one thing to point out that silver doesn't experience time like a normal hedgehog, and another thing to explain how and why this happens.
fyi, this is the part where i go wildly off the rails and start saying whatever i want. there's a ton of explanations one could come up with, most probably stemming back to sonic 06. i'm just going to go with my own, and probably not come up with a whole lot of concrete evidence because i'm just spitballing. this is me having a fun time. going "heeheehoohoo time traveling hedgehog go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
so. something i haven't touched upon is that in all games after sonic 06, silver can time travel. we never see him do it, it's never explained how he does it. all we know is that he's doing it under his own power.
which is kinda odd, don't you think? should he be able to do that?
in sonic 06, we see three mechanisms for time travel. first is the chaos emeralds. if two people perform Chaos Control with a chaos emerald apiece, they open up a swirling rift in the air which can send them to different points in time and space. silver can't be doing that, for obvious reasons— he's only one hedgehog, and he's not exactly running around with a chaos emerald at all times. that can't be how he does it.
second is a time machine eggman built. that obviously can't be it; the machine doesn't exist at all after the timeline gets wiped, and again, silver is doing this on his own. he's actively antagonistic towards eggman, even. absolutely not this one.
third and finally is mephiles, who can make big purple orbs to take himself and passengers to different points in time. this obviously can't be it either, for similar reasons to number 2, right? after all, mephiles is one half of solaris, who was destroyed before he could be split off. he doesn't exist to be silver's time-traveling uber driver.
...right?
well, obviously. i'm not going to try and tell you that mephiles is secretly alive and shepherding silver back and forth between timelines for no reason. that's ridiculous. no, i'm going to try and tell you that silver is mephiles.
or rather, he's solaris. or RATHER, he's the new solaris, sorta-ascended to the role of Time God after the old one got blown out like a birthday candle.
like i said, i'm going wildly off the rails and as such don't have any concrete evidence to explain why it's this instead of something else, but hear me out. after elise blew out the flame of hope, the universe was left in an interesting situation. someone needs to be in charge of the flow of time, but the previous time-god was just unceremoniously destroyed. but all the power and energy of a time-god has to go somewhere, in some form, in some time.
with nothing else to go off of, the role of time-god starts flipping through every notable being it had interacted with. they're all solidly accounted for in the timeline, except for one. silver the hedgehog was born into a timeline that cannot exist. silver the hedgehog does not, and cannot exist. silver the hedgehog interacted quite a bit with both sides of solaris— he spent a substantial amount of time fighting back iblis, and associated with mephiles, even being one of the few people to directly experience his time travel abilities. silver the hedgehog tried and failed to absorb iblis into himself.
here's my theory: after sonic 06, the universe reasserted itself such that silver was the new Solaris. silver is not consciously aware that this is what he is, but he knows that he can time travel. sometimes the timeline will rearrange itself around silver. he is unaffected by this because he is a higher being unaffected by such petty trifles as "an origin" or "paradoxes".
silver the hedgehog probably doesn't have parents. he sprang into existence one day and everyone just kind of went with it, himself included.
oh also something i thought was neat but couldn't think of where to put:
[ID: More cropped dialogue, this time from Team Sonic Racing.
Silver: I'm fine. It's just, something bad is gonna happen. I can't explain it. I just feel it. Blaze: Have your travels through time given you precognition? Silver: I don't know. Maybe they have. Or maybe I'm just thinking too much.]
silver might be becoming psychic in a future-vision kinda way. that, or he’s riddled with anxiety. possibly both.
TL;DR
silver hails from no less than three separate timelines, his existence is a tangled web of who-knows-how-many grandfather paradoxes, and i choose to believe that he's god.
if anyone who cares more about evidence wants to gather up like, little one-off clues that support or conflict with my conclusions, go right ahead. or just throw your own arbitrary headcanons for what's going on with this at me. or incorporate these ideas into an au or something! i just want more people thinking about what the Fuck is up with silver post-06, because by god there is a WHOLE lot of potential packed in there
anyway thanks for reading make sure to like comment and subscribe—
#hey guys check out how hard i can gesture at a corkboard#is it remotely coherent? not a clue! i cannot process my own writing#sonic theory#silver the hedgehog#text#dot txt

Why Lapis and Pearl Could Work As A Great Pairing
It is without a doubt that most people agree that Lapis and Pearl would do absolutely anything for Steven. Maybe not anything as Lapis jumped off to the nearest solar system to get away from conflict, but he is in fact the one person she would indefinitely pull out extra stops for (ie; willing to indulge befriending Peridot, live on and try earth, go into the ocean once more, etc) . But I do not think that would be the one of the driving forces between their relation but it might be one of the factors to goad them into trying and befriending each other. And perhaps…. More.
Similarities On a surface level you can perhaps glean several similarities, perhaps similar shadow and body type, sasuke pointing hair… And then another layer and find their personalities are vastly different. Pearl is very educated, prefers order, dramatic, emotional, enjoys engaging in combat, very forgiving (ex; is quick to forgive Peridot once she actually makes the amends to not call her an object), and does her best to make up for mistakes (ex; several episodes of making it up to Garnet).
Lapis is very lazy and blase, the barn she and Peridot have formed together has no sense of order and moreso chaos, she instantly flies at the first sight of conflict, is the least forgiving gem out there (ex; holds it against the crystal gems for pretty much the entirety of the series, and Peridot goes lengths and miles to try and get Lapis forgive her and still is unable to and it takes Steven to intervene and scold her to make an attempt), and honestly? Lapis hardly ever apologizes for her mistakes versus Pearl. She shows signs of guilt but she never really apologizes to Peridot for anything she’s done to her nor Steven nor… Well, really anyone else, except in Future.
But that aside, it’s when you think about their more lighthearted sides and trauma is where most of their similarities lie.
Hobbies
As off as it sounds, it’s fairly essential in pretty much any relationship to cross over a few hobbies, even if you don’t share everything, it often all starts with something along those lines. And Pearl and Lapis share a huge chunk of their hobbies, believe it or not.
Both Lapis and Pearl definitely enjoy reading, Pearl being the educational beast she is and Lapis probably enjoys the relaxed activity. In fact their genres might be even similar as Lapis and Pearl enjoy reading odd textbooks (ex; The hairstyles book for Lapis, and the engineering book for Pearl) and both enjoy dramas (albeit, perhaps this might be different) like Camp Pining Hearts and Pearl was willing to write a play and overseer one in Jamie’s case. This perhaps is b-level canon however, in the comic issue Camp Pining Play, Lapis is willingly engaging in participating and acting out in a play, she even enjoys it.
If given incentive of enjoying the subject already, Lapis is willing to perhaps enjoy the drama of things along with Pearl.
Both enjoy singing, if we’re going off Lapis was previously like other Lapis, that would mean singing and dancing is looked down upon on her caste. So the fact she even makes the attempt to do so in Distant Shore means she’s practicing in it, and if we want to add another layer of it, in the game Unleash the Light, one of Lapis’s key items is the Crying Breakfast Friends Sing-Along. And who else enjoys karaoke? Pearl (ie; the commercial karaoke). Also Lapis does it in Future so like if you want canon material it’s right there in Why So Blue.
This is a bit of a stretch but it’s clear that Lapis enjoys the arts which her participation in the class and what the heck else she does with Peridot in the barn, and Pearl has at the very least has experience in it. (ex; the drawing she makes, despite her humble opinion, makes it clear she’s done it before, in fact I’m willing to bet she even painted that fucking painting of Rose Quartz) It perhaps could lead to some more experience and artworks together if you know what I mean…
Casting that aside, it’s clear the two have a main stream of things to enjoy together should they choose to versus some other couples. (And different ones should they choose to introduce the other, Pearl with baking and sword fighting and Lapis with farming and flying, etc)
Traumas
Now this is the important part, I’m willing to argue they both can share extremely similar and relate to each other’s problems. They just have vastly different ways of coping with it, or well… They both have some similarities there as well, but we’ll address that in the next paragraph-ish.
But the biggest one? Both miss their homeworld. Dearly.
In fact it’s the driving force for Lapis’s introductory episodes and one of Pearl’s where she tries to get Steven into a rocketship back to her home. Both are ancient and dusty as fuck, or well, at least heavily implied to be ancient with the fact of Pearl commenting she learned the sword when she was only ten thousand years old (Sworn to the Sword iirc), the war was six thousand which implies Pearl learned before it. And Lapis, it’s merely conjecture however the fact that Lapis isn’t a vegetable after and still has a strong sense of identity after being in the mirror for 4 thousand years says something (ie; My name is LAPIS LAZULI!), the likely conclusion is the fact it’s because that’s not even close to how old she is. It’s only a fraction of her lifetime, which means both are… Well, old as hell. And even more likely? They come from the same ‘homeworld’ unlike Peridot or Amethyst who were made after and Garnet who has herself.
The second one is the one both of them likely have their divisive opinions on, especially as they were from opposing sides of it, is that they were both part of the War.
Both obviously have their trauma’s from it, as shown as Pearl in ‘A Single Pale Rose’ she’s still traumatized over the thousands of shattered gems (which is essentially corpses to her) she was forced to witness right after the war, and Lapis being forced to watch inside the mirror as everyone condemns her to being a crystal gem. I’m willing to bet she saw everyone die while inside the thing as well. As well as considering Lapis never really got over anything as she was gonna literally yeet herself away at the mere IDEA of the war… Well, who else could help her but another person who knows the horrors as well? And Pearl has experience as she had a support system unlike Lapis who got worse and worse purely just by being herself.
Moving on as I don’t have a cool and smooth transition... This might be a bit of a stretch, but the last thing they both share very heavily over is the fact both were objectified.
Pearl was born to be an object, whereas Lapis was forced to become one, the mirror. And both consistently fight over the fact throughout most of the series. In the movie, the thing that makes Pearl remember herself is the freedom to be herself, and when she returns to her homeworld she’s forced to be reminded of her place when she talks to Holly Blue and returns to Steven in the final season. Lapis is obviously shook over it and holds it against the fact she always feels like she’s being used, (‘[...] AND YOU CAN’T KEEP ME TRAPPED ANYMORE!’) she longs for a safe place and to be free just as well just as Pearl does and the freedom to express herself (ie; her art). And who else but Pearl----- *coughcouhgcough*
Differences
I covered this in the first part where it's obvious the two have very vast differences when it comes to their personalities. But I find it important to have differences as both have something to bring to the table with their differences, no? Another essential part of a working couple.
And to quickly cover what I had before, their personalities. Pearl is literal and Lapis is sarcastic, Pearl is outwardly emotional and sobs and Lapis moodily and angrily exists, so on and so forth. How does this work? It’s also one of the hardest parts of their relationship, should they ever try it out because one of their biggest differences, is one of their flaws in a relationship as proven over and over.
Pearl is all give and no take, and Lapis is all take and no give. Which is a mix for a toxic relationship, as Pearl would constantly be giving to Lapis as Pearl’s entire worth as shown in her previous relation was all about what she would give to Rose, or else she was nothing. Even by the end of the main series she still needs to be reminded she’s still something without her. And Lapis’s emotional baggage? Let’s face it, Lapis is selfish and it’s all about her. She’s angry? She’s gonna fuck you up (ie; Jasper and the two Lapis), Lapis doesn’t want to deal with war? She doesn’t even think twice about what Peridot wants, and jumps away despite Steven calling out towards her.
But, but, but, but… It’s also a mix for something amazing as after their development, they’re kind of the perfect people to call each other out. In theory of course should they communicate.
Lapis would teach Pearl to be a little more selfish and care about her own needs, whereas Lapis needs constant reminders to actually take notice about what others want and feel (ex; the way she immediately rushes in and notices Steven’s expression at the last moment). It’s clear that Pearl isn’t willing to be treated that way should Lapis do so (ex; the way she snapped back at Peridot and towards Holly Blue) and Lapis upon caring enough? Is in fact willing to try to do better (ex; Why so blue, and Alone at Sea). It’s just that Lapis is farther behind on maturity (considering she ran away and panics instantly twice in a row). They can strike a perfect balance should they put the effort to do so, which would lead to the possible second problem they might have and would need to work through.
And the second difference the two of them have?
Fusion.
It’s the one trauma Lapis has that Pearl wouldn’t understand, and, it’s something Pearl clearly finds something addicting or to use above others. In fact she needed a crash course on it with the string of episodes of what she did to Garnet. Because Pearl is the kind of person who would desperately try so hard to not repeat the same mistake, she’s probably she’s willing to wait a millennia about it or even be fine with never fusing with Lapis. Because consent is important, but I think because of her actual experience with good and loving fusions? She might not be actually be a bad candidate for helping Lapis should she ever want to try again.
The Biggest Conflict
Now, for the biggest problem of the relationship. Uh, let’s be real here…. Despite all these arguments and nice claims and all.
Lapis doesn’t like Pearl, at all. Perhaps she even holds the biggest grudge against Pearl because Pearl was the one who literally carried her around in the mirror for a good chunk of time, doesn’t even bother to learn who she was, and even was willing to bubble her and trap her further. And Lapis probably has incentive to keep it against her for purely that fact as she was holding it against Peridot for the same fact, except for the fact Pearl has made zero amends to apologize for it. So why would Lapis ever want to talk to her?
You might consider the possibility of Steven but it’s not his job to make them friends. The only thing the two of them would do for him is to pretend to be friends, as shown in ‘Hit the Diamond’ and ‘Gem Harvest’ but otherwise, there’s clear distaste from Lapis’s side (ie; The New Crystal Gems) and her consistent ‘fuck the crystal gems’ attitude from the beginning. Maybe for him they might try something however I doubt it’s enough.
Regardless, I do believe an apology is due on both sides whenever they are ready. And that would be the start of perhaps their romantic relationship shenanigans which I consistently desire. Also I’m a slut for tense relationships to friendship to lovers if people would just---
Anyway I think there’s a lot more material for them to work with and they might actually be a pretty awesome couple

So I finally nailed down my designs for the black heart characters (except colossus, perry/predator and Madusa I'm still massing with them) along with some head canons! The characters might look a bit weird next to each other, I didn't draw them all on the same canvas. I know I'm suppose to but I was lazy and didn't want to re draw the refs on one canvas. I also appologize for this being so long.
I'm hoping to start a comic with these guys. I always end up saying no to projects like this because I don't think my art is good enough but I think I'm going to put my foot down this time!
Hal:
Can talk(unlike my version of Cyan)
Pretty laid back but knows when he needs to be serious
Will curse you out
Thinks Aura and Nautilus are cute together
His cape works as his "soul meter"(idk what to call it). It has 3 squares on the back that represent Hal's souls. The cape becomes tattered and ripped when souls are taken.
He just wants 5 minutes of peace without someone trying to take his souls, please give him his 5 minutes of peace.
Really hates colossus
In the context of black heart I don't consider him a nano bot. He can bleed and stuff like that.
When he sleeps his body starts to heal any wounds and mend his cloths. This leaves him defenseless as he will remain unconscious until it's finished. He tries not to sleep out in the open and often uses caves and trees as temporary shelters when he needs to sleep. This can also activate when he is knocked unconscious but in cases like with Colossus the healing part is stopped.
He can change colors but he prefers red. His cloths don't change colors with him. Just his skin and his cape.
Again, in he context of black heart, I imagine Hal just kinda woke up somewhere with a bit of knowlage about himself and that's about it. Shortly after works he ran into Aura and Nautilus for the first time. He considered the battle a joke.
Nautilus:
Has glowing markings all over his body. He can cause them to glow at will
Can only breath air for around 10 minutes( this time can decrease with some conditions such as heat or cold. This is because his gills need to be wet for him to breath air, so if it's really hot out his gills will dry out faster)
Has a stutter due to the N.A.T.U thing, among other things. Like trust issues when Xero is around
Is euryhalinr(this just means he can breath any kind of water)
His suit adds about 100lbs to him (material, water, and special boots to help with balance when moving around in the suit)
Likes to make jewlary with shells and stuff
Loves Aura to death. Would litterally die for her.
His teeth work like a shark's. One falls out? You've got plenty more to fill the gap! He has given pretty much all his friends breif heart attacks when he casually spits one out after they hear the loud bone cracking noise of a tooth braking. He keeps all the teeth.
Runs on all fours for some reason. No one knows why, including Aura.
Aura:
Learned all her magic from her parents
Her parents lived like hermits because they believed people still hold witch hunts. Aura hated this because she snuck out a lot and knew that this wasn't the case.
Can be a bit forgetful with spells so she always keeps her book with her at all times
Love Nautilus to death, would die for him too.
Can't swim, her body it denser then water so she just sinks. Nautilus is almost always with her when she's near water for this reason.
Aura's wand is broken but she just keeps fixing it with tape because she doesn't know how to make a new one. She also doesn't want to ask her parents because they wouldn't let her live it down.
Made the headphones Puffer wears so he doesn't have to worry about Siren trying to mind control him, again.
Aura has a secret garden. She uses it to grow her magic plants. It has a defense system that even Jestar can't get past. Only those she has given permission can enter, but those people can give temporary permission to others. Only Nautilus, Puffer and Solario have permission to go into the garden.
Has gotten use to the weird things Natalie can do.
Puffer:
A bit of a hermit, but will open up when he trusts someone
Always has his eyes closed because he thinks his eyes look scary. He can still see for some reason? (Like Brock from pokemon, idk how he could see but he traveled like 3-4 regions like that)
Changes colors depending on emotions. Blue is calm and happy, purple is upset and sad and red is anger and frustration.
Puffer can create lots of spikes all over his body if needed as well as a set of claws. He doesn't do this often.
Likes to cook but keeps it a secret from everyone. (Aura and Nautilus found out though, they just kept the secret)
He really doesn't like Siren after what she did to him, but he will talk to her and hang out with her if someone else he trusts is around.
Really wants to apologize to Hal but he hasn't gotten the chance to yet.
Is really self conscious.
He's not very good at swimming but Nautilus teaches him when Siren isn't around or in Aura's secret garden.
Siren:
Likes to sing for no reason
Has a not so small army of skeleton fish
Is litterally heartless (she doesn't like to talk about it)
Has a crush on Puffer but she doesn't know how to fix the bridge she burned with him
Plays chess with Myst a lot(and wins a lot, much to Myst's dismay)
She can shape shift her tail into a pair of legs. This was a "gift" from Jestar to help her be a better assassin for him
Thinks Xero is a prick
Likes to steal Xero's alcohol sometimes
Can water bend. She can't blood bend though. She's tried.
Likes rock and country music for some reason
Nautilus likes to play with her fish some times.
Knows a bit about necromancy. She doesn't like to talk about it though. She never does it in front of anyone besides her fish army
Myst:
Doesn't like to talk about his life outside work
Is well over 100 years old( he lost count)
Is very protective when it comes to Shade
Doesn't really understand Shade but will support her regardless
Likes to smoke when he thinks no one is around
Can create an umbrella to protect himself if he is caught outside when the sun comes up
Likes to play chess
Is basically a dad to the other assassins
Rarely opens his third eye. This usually only happens when he gets frantic, scared or extreamly angry
Does not have any remorse over killing Parry
He doesn't eat in front of others if it can be helped
Myst told Nautilus about Shade once. He had a bad feeling and asked that if anything happened to him Nautilus would take care of her. Only problem was no one thought about the address of Myst and Shade's mansion. He found her though, don't worry.
When he is exposed to sunlight it will immediately cause him to get sunburned. If he doesn't leave after about 30 seconds- 1 minute he will start to die slowly and painfully. He has taken a lot of tea baths because of the sun
Solario:
A big dork
Very loud and bubbly
Is a prince from a kingdom galaxies away from where black heart takes place in
Was suppose to marry the moon from the moon is getting away level (haven't given her a name yet) but she unknowingly broke Sol's heart so he left. He wanted her to be happy and he clearly couldn't give her that happiness.
Doesn't understand "mortal" things but wants to learn.
Nautilus taught him the word yeet and now he won't stop using it
I headcanon that his voice actor would Gary LeVox(lead singer of Rascal Flatts)(don't ask why, I can't change what has happened in my brain)
Will stop at nothing to see his friends happy
Likes hanging out with Aura, Nautilus and Puffer
Can make himself hotter or colder at will. He tends to stay at a heat that won't hurt others when the go near him, but not cold enough to cause himself harm.
If he gets to cold he can die. He also starts to become extreamly cold or extremely hot before death. The direction his tempature goes in is dependent on what he was doing before hand. (Example: reading a book, gets shot, starts to get colder and colder. Attacking Hal trying to get his soul, shapeshifts so much he almost blows himself up, gets hotter and hotter)
Can be a bit over dramatic sometimes
He is incredibly strong. He can lift both Puffer(who whieghs roughly 230 lbs) and Nautilus when he's in his suit(so about 250 lbs) with no trouble. He forgets about his stranghth some times and has accidentally thrown a few things before quickly trying to fix it.
His shapeshifting isn't limited to just objects, he can shape shift small things about him self like his cloths or his entire body into something like a dinosaur. He doesn't do it often though. Mostly just the cloths thing.
Jestar:
Yells a lot
Thinks everyone is incompetent except Xero, for some reason
Accidentally took Puffer when Siren joined do to a confusion about Sirens powers. He refused to send Puffer home.
Colossus is basically just his pet
Xero is the only one who can get away with yelling at Jestar. No one really knows why but they hold really long arguments about all sorts of stupid stuff
Did I mention he yells a lot? I did? Well I’m saying it again. He yells A LOT.
Can shapeshift in to anything
Does not know how to handle baby Madusa. He doesn't know how to handle people in general, and he thought creating a baby was a good idea.
Xero:
Smokes and drinks a lot
Has a German accent(I can’t un heard it, I’m sorry)
Has a wrapped sense of humor
Calls Natilus “shark boy” after natilus bit him(this is related to what happened before N.A.T.U)
Calls everyone a nicknames besides Jestar.
Makes more robots then he needs and holds robot death battles at night.
Wants to dissect Siran after he found out she’s litterally heartless.
Is drunk 90% of the time but that's when he works best. He doesn't care that he has a problem either
Dressed Madusa up is costumes a lot during the 2 weeks it took him to grow up. He created a scrap book with photos of them too.
Can actually be a really nice dude when he wants to be. He doesn't normally want to be nice
90% of his robots are idiots
He's left handed
Colossus:
Is basically Jestar’s pet
Doesn’t speak a language anyone knows
Is basically a king without a kingdom
Starts out really tiny but gets really big for a short period of time once he has infected someone
Shade:
Has trust issues
Is only like 16 years old
Has normal(ish) ghost powers because she was born a ghost
Drives Myst nuts with her edgy stuff
Likes talking to Perry(she meets him after the Funk Hole level)
Can bounce between having a ghost tail to having normal legs.
Her flower is technically apart of her but she doesn't consider it part of her.
Perry:
Kinda skittish around people who look scary to him(so 90% of the black heart cast)
Has a crush on Shade but won't admit it out loud because he's scared of getting bitten in half by Myst, again.
Around 18 years old
Left home because his mom and brother suck and he wanted to be a ghost hunter like the ones he saw on tv. He got his wish for like 2 hours?
Transforms into Predator during the full moons and special moons. Special moons can have different effects on his transformation and mental state. Like a blood moon causes him to become more blood thirsty but a blue moon causes him to actually retain his normal mental state.
He has a habit of spiraling about everything
Predator:
Can't say anything understandable
Each part of his head has a brain so they agrue sometimes
Around 5X the size of Parry
Acts like a dog sometimes
Would have probably just ate Hal instead of taking the souls.
Madusa:
Can breath underwater and air without issue
Doesn't like the fact that he looks like Nautilus
Hasn't figured out how to swim fast like nautilus yet but won't admit it
Calls Jestar dad
Actually gets along well with Xero
Xero calls him Moccasin
Has markings like Nautilus but they only glow in the dark and they aren't as bright
He's allergic to shell fish
Actually had about a 2 week period where he was a kid. Xero and Jestar just gave him a special serum that caused I'm to grow up faster.
Most of his teeth ended up like Aura's but his canines are significantly sharper then they would be. Xero also found an extra set of teeth under Madusa's adult teeth.
Doesn't like the idea that his whole life rests on a tiny, easy to brake, stone on his head but just rolls with it.
Scared Jestar and Xero a lot during his first few days of life. He not only descovered his allergy to shell fish but almost got himself caught by the others a bunch of times.
All these guys belong to OL666 except Hal, he belongs to vitamin games

me ideas relating to boots n bombs but it’s a list for the world to see
Disclaimer that these are all cross-faction (RED demoman BLU soldier because WAR! comic is good stuff) and i cannot promise that they make sense because over the months of writing/yeeting ideas/rambles at myself and sal ( @/0-salty-potato-0 shoutout to her for being my ramble sponge) also in part because i’ve kinda developed BLU and RED team members independently fjskds
summary of summary: perfect world, modern, established relationship, timetravel, royalty, amnesia, mermaid, and then some (20 ideas in varying summary length in total lmao) underneath the cut (if tumblrs a butt and does not cut i sincerely apologies)
Perfect world au Tavish and Jane spend their days fighting each other, belonging to two different teams yet thick as thieves in the bright of day. Their jobs are fun and engaging, their teams close as families, and late nights laughing together over a few bottles of beer to look forward to on the empty battlefields. They’re happy, they have everything they could want and everything is perfect. So why was Tavish saying it’s not?
Modern au where Tavish lives in the affectionately (or not) named RED cul-de-sac, given from the fact that all the houses had some sort of red color tint or highlights. An interesting neighborhood, with even more interesting neighbors. Life fell into an odd but familiar routine since he moved there, life was comfortable. That was until one of his neighbors crashed one of Conagher’s barbecues announcing that his twin brother none of them had ever heard about was going to be living with him for the time being. This wouldn’t have been much of an issue, if Tavish didn't live in the house right next to Solly. (In a vaguely similar vein theres also one where Soldier’s a ghost/eldritch being haunting a house that Tavish buys
Established Relationship AU where BLU Scout stumbles across his Soldier and the RED Demoman being buddy buddy’s not long after the WAR! after a long battle in Dustbowl, confused and a bit betrayed by the Soldier’s actions, he runs back to his base only to be intercepted by none other than the RED Spy. The Spy asks for secrecy, after some persuasion Scout agrees reluctantly. But, how long could the Scout keep a secret anyway? Story deals with both teams reaction to their teammates relationship with an enemy merc
Timetravel au where the RED Demoman drunkenly begs for a chance to fix a great wrong and he’s sent into the past by Merasmus. Only he’s sent far into the past, right in the middle of the WAR! between him and the enemy Soldier. Tavish has to navigate this old world, interact with teammates with years of familiarity gone, without bringing too much suspicion upon himself. All at the same time trying to make sure the future never goes the way it does. It’s almost too much, but he was the bloody Demoman, he’ll persevere. He had to. Even if it meant reliving one of the worst fights in his life against a man he could no longer bring himself to harm.
Mermaid au where the ocean had always called out to Jane. An odd sense of anxiety settles inside of him when the company he’s been working for to fend off supernatural beings from american lands stations him to protect the coasts. And it was fine, he was born to kill monsters. That was what they told him. So why did one of the enemies, a deadly siren with a missing eye, know his name? Why did he seem so relieved to see him? Claiming to know him from a past he had forgotten?
Royalty AU okay i have like 4 takes on royalty au but one of them is that RED and BLU are enemy kingdoms but a sudden out of the blue truce that the RED court is informed of via BLU sending some members of their court as ambassadors, suspicions and tensions are naturally high and they both have to learn to deal with it, however the BLU general and RED prince seem to be getting along surprisingly well after a few spars
Amnesia AU talked a bit about it in that ask anon sent, general concept one day the BLU Soldier goes missing, nobody is able to find him until one day the RED Demoman, Sniper and Spy get stranded in a nameless off the map town. Finding a man who looked, sounded and acted just like the missing Soldier in a bar, only he showed no recollection of them.
Another spin would be the whole BLU team goes missing, also with more of those brainwashy-culty vibes
Classic 5+1, five firsts and one last that details their life together before, during and after the WAR!
Post MVM pre-comics setting where the former BLU Soldier confronts the former RED demoman at his own home, age old lies are uncovered and old bridges rebuilt as the two learn to live together
Canon comics except Jane’s also there, whats on the tin when Miss Pauling goes to recruit Demoman to find the australium for the Administrator she was expecting an immediate yes. She planned for it. Yet the Demoman hesitated, and soon she saw the reason why. Tavish would only go if Jane could come along, car ride’s a bit cramped but it would have to be a minor inconvenience
Idk name of ones/random drabble ideas:
Self indulgent Jane is brainwashed by Gray Mann after the gravel wars, after Gray Mann is defeated he sends Jane (“General”) to protect and hide Olivia Mann so that the company stays his, post comics red team + Pauling have been looking for them but Tavish was the first to find them while reminiscing in Gravel Pits and basically “jane the fuck that kids a devil”
During Scream Fortress where Jane and Tavishs long buried guilt and self hatred regarding their relationship with each other takes form as living nightmares as mountains of gibs and sea of heads
Fusion au except idk how to write fusions so it’d focus more on the vibes
After red v blu wars but Before MVM tavish goes to have an actual talk with jane for the first time in years
BLU Soldier gets turned into a kid and somehow stumbles into RED base
Misunderstanding with Merasmus gets tavish and Jane bodyswapped
Undercover, RED’s protecting some random guy and BLU’s there to kidnap/kill in a fancy rich person ball sort-of setting
Wings au
Soulmate au
Honestly just she-ra au, let them be princesses
