still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.

lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.

and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!

but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

The thing is, it's framed as a happy ending, so much so that it makes you think it's a happy ending until you actually apply any level of critical thought to it.

Omega gets to live the rest of her childhood with her brothers (well... 3 of them at least) and goes on to fight in the Rebellion, which is fitting for her tbf. Hunter gets at least some degree of peace, as does Wrecker, but that doesn't mean a whole lot seeing as they did almost nothing with Wrecker over the course of the show. One of the only differences between Wrecker at the start and Wrecker at the end is that his brother is dead, so a very happy ending for him! Oh wait...

And don't worry, Crosshair may be suffering from a severe amount of trauma and unbelievable levels of guilt, but he doesn't have a hand tremor anymore. It was resolved by *checks notes* cutting his hand off? Errrm... okay.

And Echo? Fuck knows where Echo is. You'd think he'd actually get an ending in the episode that is supposed to wrap up the stories of all six of your main characters? Haha nope! Echo doesn't count apparently.

And we don't need to talk about Tech.

Okay, by the epilogue it's been years. That gives them time to process certain events and heal and find some level of peace, but it never shows that. And that's one of my biggest gripes with this show. I love it but why is all of the important stuff happening off screen?

The Batch processing Tech's death? Crosshair finding out about Tech's death? Processing trauma? 90% of Echo's whole storyline???

Sure, stuff can happen offscreen, but to have so many of your key character development points happening where the audience can't see it isn't useful. It makes me think of an interview Jennifer Corbett did where she said she believes that Echo and Rex have spoken about Fives multiple times. Okay great but like? We never see it? So how tf are we supposed to know this??? We were all watching S3 thinking "Wait does Crosshair even know about Tech dying???" Which isn't how that's supposed to be! That's not a plot point you leave that vague!

I didn't intend to go on this much of a rant but for how much I love this show, it grinds so many of my gears sometimes 😓

every time I see 'but the Batch got their happy ending it's so sweet how amazing' I'm like mmmmmmmmmm well some of them did, anyways...yes very sweet...

Read Right to Left (Manga Format)

I have returned to watching demon slayer after a year and it came up while I was having a serious late night talk with my big sister. I was talking about the relationship between Michikatsu/Kokushibo and Yoriichi and it turns out we both see each other in Yoriichi's shoes and ourselves in Michikatsu's place. Definitely surprising, but really relieving to know that we both worry too much and we are not so far apart in skill as we believe.

This is technically the first piece of fanart I've ever made for the characters in Demon Slayer, I have made OCs before but I never drew an actual character from the story. For context this is mostly just a fun "what if" scenario with them meeting in the afterlife. I like to think Yoriichi's love would reawaken Michikatsu's humanity.

oh. kirishima is that guy that tries to go on date after date after date and it just. never works out.

so genuinely into it, even has butterflies ! but he's at home getting ready and buttoning up his shirt and he takes a last look in the mirror and — he just wishes it was with you.

his date that night is so great and lovely and funny, but there are little moments when he looks at their face and feels a deep ache in his heart because he shouldn't want for someone else while a wonderful individual is sitting right there in front of him. but he does. thinks about what you would order to eat, to drink, if you would let him hold your hand on the way back to the train station, if you'd let him kiss you goodnight. just a small one, even.

and it doesn't help when he returns to work the following monday, just for you to gently knock on his office door, all bright-eyed and curious.

"so...how did it go? are we hearing wedding bells yet?"

his date was great. 10/10. he laughed and he joked and he blushed at their flirting and even texted them afterwards to make sure they got home alright. just as he's done with all the previous ones.

"nah," kirishima rubs the back of his neck and smiles lamely. hopes you read his disappointment as how the date didn't go and not over who it wasn't with. "plenty of fish in the sea, right?"

"aw, kiri, you'll find someone that's great for you soon, i know it!" you frown at him and he feels the back of his eyes sting, his chest grow heavy with all the things he wish he could say to you.

"yeah, no, you're right!"

but he just can't.

that banter lucanis has with davrin where he tells him he shouldn't be letting assan go soft, because when you let that happen to 'predators like us' you turn them into sheepdogs. all anxiety all the time. ...lucanis baby is there something you want to talk about. I mean I know you'd literally rather die but well if you need it the offer is on the table lol
