Sink or Swim
Pairing: Eddie Diaz x Reader
Word count: …whoops
Notes: Guys I’m posting this while at the salon, my hair is processing it’s gonna be b l u e
Day 1: Public Sex
“I’m telling you man-” Buck puts his arms up on the edge of the pool and Eddie rolls his eyes “You just gotta get laid”
Eddie had been on edge lately, everyone had noticed it, after his latest fling had fizzled out he’d been hitting the gym more, hitting the bar more. Hell, he’d even started going to the library again.
He was this close to taking up bungee jumping.
“I don’t need-“
“Don’t even start” Buck puts his hands up “Literally do not. I swear to god you’re gonna burst at any second if you don’t just get some”
Eddie sighs “You know, sex doesn’t actually solve everything?”
“Oh, but it sure as fuck would this time” He winks and Eddie rolls his eyes again, crossing his arms over his chest as he puts his back against the wall.
“You know that’s not me dude… I’m not- I’m not a one-night stand kind of-“
“We’re here!!”
Both boys look up to see Tommy walking in through the house, Buck immediately gets up and swims over to the stairs.
“Hey gorgeous,” Buck says as he gets out, coming over to Tommy. Tommy takes his chin in his fingers, pulling him forward and giving him a little peck on the lips with a wink.
“Oh fucking gag”
A voice comes from behind him and Buck pulls away, giddy as ever
“Hi Y/N”
“Hi Ev- Buck” She corrects herself as she steps out of Tommy’s ginormous shadow.
Eddie comes out of the pool now, the water cascading down his body, he shakes out his hair and smoothes it back.
Buck looks at Tommy. Tommy looks at Buck.
“Hey Eddie, c’mere I want you to meet someone”
He steps aside and holds his arms out, presenting you to Eddie, he gives Tommy a nod, who rolls his eyes and does the same thing.
“Tada,” He says sarcastically and Eddie shakes his head, chuckling as he walks over.
“Eddie Diaz” He holds his hand out and you smile, shaking it
“Y/N Kinard. I’m-“
“Tommy’s little sister!!!” Buck squeals and puts his arm around Eddie.
“Jesus Christ” Tommy mutters under his breath as he grabs Buck by the arm and pulls him off of Eddie.
“She’s staying with me, I thought it’d be nice if she came to hang out with us!”
“If you don’t mind” You pipe up and Tommy has to fight to keep Buck from going feral
“Oh no! Of course, I don’t come on I’ll show you where to put your stuff” Eddie reaches for your pool bag and you hand it to him, your cheeks flushing a little as he leads you over to the pool chairs.
“Evan- Evan you have to-“ Tommy puts his hands on Buck's shoulders as he’s nearly bouncing out of his shorts.
“Evan let it happen, it’s gotta be organic okay? We’ve done our part”
“So I shouldn’t- I shouldn’t play my baby-making playlist?” He shakes his head and Tommy shakes his head with him
“No babe, no you shouldn’t”
Eddie sets your bag down on the pool chair and you smile up at him, he knows what the guys are doing god does he know.
But fuck if you’re not the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen in his life. He’s surprised you’re even related to Tommy you’re so… petite. You’ve gotta be a good foot shorter than he is and god the way your curves fill out that swimsuit.
“I’m sorry, by the way,” You rub the back of your neck awkwardly “I know you probably like wanted a boys thing and-“
“Oh no! No, I’m glad you decided to come!” He puts his hands on your arms and you blush, he pulls his hands back quickly and copies your stance, rubbing the back of his neck
“I’m uh- I'm glad you’re here…Do you- do you have sunscreen? Gotta… make sure you’re all… sun protected”
You snicker a little and turn away from him to go through your bag and he nearly pulls his hair out as he digs the heels of his palms into his eyes, groaning to himself. He’s never this fucking awkward around women.
“You think Tommy would let me go anywhere without it?” You joke as you stand back up “Did you need some?”
“Uh no- no I’m covered but um- I can-‘I can get your back for you if you’d like” He offers as he puts his hand out and you shrug, pouring some into it.
“Thanks”
“Mhm!!” His voice is high-pitched as you turn around and lie down on the beach chair. He gets on his knees, rubbing his hands together before rubbing your back, you reach back and pull the string of your stop, letting it fall off and adjust yourself a little
“That should make things easier,” You say as you pull your hair to the side and Eddie has to work very hard to ignore the perfect view he has of your side boob.
“Ha yeah. So- so much easier yeah” He rubs your shoulders first, working the lotion down your sides and across your golden skin. He likes the way it shimmers as it dries into your skin, how soft your skin is, how pretty it is. He’s so busy giving you a massage, rubbing the lotion in he doesn’t even realize the little noises you’re making at first until you moan his name. His hands freeze in place and he finally snaps out of it.
“You’re pretty good with your hands,” You say softly, propping yourself up on your elbows.
“I work with them,” He says dumbly and you giggle while he internally terminates his life contract.
“Yeah, I know, with Buck, right? You’re a firefighter too?”
“Yeah actually, it feels like my calling sometimes you know? Helping people just feels right. Plus you know I get to ride in a fire truck and who doesn’t want to freaking do that”
“Yeah he’s like super sexy, he saves people!! He’s a hero!!!” Buck pops up behind Eddie who nearly swings on him and you scream
“I’m sorry I’m so-“ Tommy lifts Buck by the waist, throwing him over his shoulder.
“Eddie can do this too!! I’ve seen him do it!!” Buck yells before Tommy dumps him into the pool and jumps in with him to try and drown him
You laugh as you get up, facing away from Eddie, you look at him from over your shoulder and Eddie practically melts, his heart pounding in his chest.
“Mind retying this for me?” You ask and he nods absentmindedly, his hands fumbling a little as he grabs the strings and ties them back for you
“This good?” He rests his hands on your shoulders and you look up at him
“Uh huh…” You both stare at each other for a second and he smirks, blushing
“Cool. You ready to get in? Or?” His hands travel down your sides and he grips your hips
“Yeah I guess I’m-“
Before you can even finish your sentence Eddie grabs you by your hips, running over to the pool.
“Wait, wait no wait!!!” You scream as he launches you both into the water. You come back to the surface and jump on him, trying to shove him back under
“You asshat!!”
He’s laughing as he grabs you again and dunks you back under, his body staying pressed to yours as you make him bring you back up.
“Hey, that’s not fair!!” You kick and splash and he turns you in his arms so you’re facing him
“Awwwww is the Princess pouting?” He smirks and your jaw drops
“Princess??” You scoff “I’m not a Princess.”
“I don’t know that” Eddie shrugs “Maybe if I got to know you better…”
“Is he asking you on a date” Buck comes up out of the water and Eddie shoves him right back down.
“Because Tommy and I are going out for lunch after this!! I was just gonna make Eddie take you home but this works too”
Now it’s your turn to shove him back down
“How bout it? Just a little getting to know you”
“I’m just saying it could be a double date”
You sigh, leaning your head on Eddie’s shoulder, and smile, shaking your head.
“Yeah Buck we can go on a double date”
“Why do you indulge him” Eddie groans as he goes running through the water, splashing wildly to tell Tommy.
“Because he won’t stop popping up if we don’t”
Buck actually stops bothering you two after that, not that it’s really much to bother you about now that you’ve agreed to a date. You spend the next couple of hours just messing around with them, playing stupid pool games and even mermaids with Buck. He keeps making you do hair flips like Ariel and Tommy puts a stop to that the second you nearly smack your head into the wall after how dizzy it’s made you.
Buck eventually finds a way to convince Tommy to play chicken and he promises he’ll take it easy on you as he helps you onto Eddie’s shoulders and pats your butt.
Eddie though nearly has a heart attack as you settle on his shoulders, your thighs are so perfect and soft and warm, his head rests against your breasts and he tries to be normal about it he does but they’re just so perfect.
He’s never been more glad he’s in a pool because you can’t see the way his cock is rock hard as you squeal and laugh while fighting Buck and trying to shove him over. Eventually, you fall over onto Buck and you both go laughing and splashing into the water and Eddie feels the tiniest hint of jealousy at the way you cling to Buck as he stands you both up.
He quickly passes you back to Eddie though who is more than happy to be holding you again.
“Hey, Ed why don’t you uh- go inside, maybe help Y/N get ready to go?”
“Did you just call me Ed-“
“Yeah yeah go go” He shoves you and Eddie out of the pool and the two of you gather your stuff up and leave just as Tommy pulls Buck over to him, cupping his face and pressing their lips together.
You and Eddie make gagging noises and Buck flips you off
“I literally hate having siblings,” You say as you both walk into the house, Eddie holds the door for you and you sneak under his arm
“Buck is the closest thing I have to a brother here. I can painfully agree with you”
“At least you don’t live with him” you laugh, as you start to dry off more. You rub your arms, trying to generate some heat and Eddie reaches for you
“For warmth” He shrugs like it doesn’t really mean much, trying to pretend like he’s not internally freaking out as you pull your arms to your chest and snuggle into his, he wraps his arms around you and rests his chin on your head
“Better?” He asks, feeling you squirm a little and you shrug, clearing your throat
“Uh huh, a lot better”
His body is so warm and so… hard. His abs feel nice under your fingertips and you try not to get caught as you totally feel him up and he tries not to get caught feeling you up. His hands rub your arms slowly, his fingertips sliding up your back and massaging you gently again.
“We should probably see what’s keeping them” You pull away after a little bit, biting your lip.
“Yeah… probably” he makes you pull away from him, he doesn’t want to do it himself. You take his hand and pull him back over to the door with you and open it.
“Guys? Can we go please soon?? I’m star-“
Buck is bent over the side of the pool, his head hanging low as he moans, Tommy is over him, kissing his neck and buried deeply inside him.
“MY EYESSSS” Eddie screams as he slams the door shut

Buck has been crazy about double dates, really he just wanted you and Eddie to hang out more and he also wanted to hang out with Eddie and since he wanted to be with Eddie and Tommy it just made sense to bring you too because you’re Tommy’s little sister and he wanted to hang out with you too.
Or at least that’s how he explains it as Eddie blinks at him over his morning coffee.
It wasn’t like it bothered him you tagged along, things were starting to heat up between the two of you. You’d been calling and texting all day since you’d met and he was really starting to feel something for you.
What that was?… he wasn’t really ready to put it into words.
Too bad Buck was.
He’d sent the “What are we?” Text from Eddie’s phone one night when he slept over, and though it got him beat the fuck down Eddie had woken up to an endearing, awkwardly-worded text saying that you “maybe kinda sorta” didn’t mind being his girlfriend.
That’s when the pictures started.
And if getting with you meant you’d be sending him that? Well fuck he would have manned up so much sooner. The first pic arrives when they’re on their way back to the firehouse, he can see the text-
“Is this cute enough for our date?”
And he opens it like a complete dumbass. Because there you are, standing in front of your mirror wearing a sheer corset and a pair of blue jean shorts that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. His jaw drops as he stares at you, and his eyes travel up your body… right to the dripping popsicle you’re eating.
“Holy shit” He lets out a quiet breath as he stares at you. Buck looks over at him and makes little grabby hands.
“Hey is that Y/N? Lemme see!!!”
Eddie hugs his phone to his chest like the gentleman he is, protecting your virtue.
“Uhhh it’s just a picture of her rabbit!! It’s- it’s just you know- a really, like super furry rabbit that’s all it’s nothing! It’s nothing it’s fine”
You guys ended up staying in that night.
A couple days later Buck invited you and Eddie for brunch, he said all cool couples go to brunch (really he just wanted the blueberry pancakes they had at this place and you both agreed to go.
“Hello beautiful” He smiles, pecking your lips as he pulls back your chair
“Hi, Eddie” You blush, kissing him back. He sits next to you puts his arm on the back of your chair and pulls you closer to him
“Can you guys stop being so gross” Buck sips his mimosa and Eddie rolls his eyes
“Dude how many times have I caught you and Tommy fu-“
“Not in front of the kids!!!” Buck nearly spits his drink out as he covers Eddie’s mouth with his hands
Buck and Eddie go back and forth like children before Tommy grabs Buck by the chin and turns him toward him, planting a sweet kiss on his lips
“Focus on the pancakes babe”
Buck pulls away, her cheeks pink, his eyes a little dazed
“Yeah… okay..”
The rest of the time is fun, the boys are really into whatever stupid story they’re remembering and trying to tell you but they keep laughing and talking over each other.
You’re nodding along absentmindedly when Eddie feels your hand. He thinks it’s just a fluke, an accident. But… no? It’s creeping higher up his thigh, stroking his muscles softly.
He can feel his cock hardening in his pants, and he tries to maintain his composure, keeping the conversation going with Buck and Tommy.
He thinks? Are they talking about like bees now? Or maybe horses? He has no fucking clue, not with your fingers doing a little walk up his thigh.
He leans back in his chair, allowing your hand to inch closer, and when you finally touch his growing bulge, he lets out a soft breath, his eyes drifting shut for a moment.
You giggle at something Tommy said, rolling your eyes at the stupid dad joke before glancing at Eddie, your nose crinkles, your eyes sparkling with mischief as you start to stroke him slowly.
Eddie's breath hitches at your touch, his body tensing slightly. He forces himself to relax as best he can, keeping his composure as he listens to the conversation. Your giggle sends shivers down his spine, his heart racing. He’s not sure how much longer he can keep this up before he just shoves you down on the table and fucks you right in front of Buck’s salad.
“Eddie?” You look up at him innocently, acting like the sweetest little angel “Can you show me where the bathroom is?”
His eyes light up as he looks over at you, eager to please. His voice is huskier than normal and Buck definitely picks up on that.
“Yeah of course” He gets up from the table, clearing his throat “Excuse us” he takes your hand and pulls you behind him, leading you toward the back of the restaurant. You can feel the excitement and anticipation building up in your chest, and you can see from the grin on his face he’s feeling exactly the same way you are
He pulls you into the family bathroom and pushes you against the door the second it closes, kissing you passionately as he locks it. Your hands come up to cup his cheeks, your tongues battling for dominance. His fist hits the door beside you and you gasp into his mouth, he grins, his tongue winning easily now.
“Oh… oh you like it rough don’t you?”
He chuckles darkly as he attacks your neck, biting and kissing. You pull at his belt and whine.
“We don’t have much time, it has to be quick!” Your breath is ragged as he scoops you up and carries you over to the counter
“You think you’re wet enough for me?”
He shoves your skirt up around your waist and pulls your panties to the side, his eyes widening at the sticky tendrils of your wetness plastered against them.
“Holy….”
“I think I’m wet enough” you whisper seductively, reaching for his belt and taking it off.
He pulls his thick cock from his pants, stroking it slowly and tapping your clit with it, your body shudders as he rubs it through your folds, gathering your wetness all over the tip. Your head falls back as he thrusts into you in one quick motion, the wind is knocked out of you as you slap your hand over your mouth, trying to muffle your moan.
He gives you a few moments to adjust to his size before he sets a brutal pace, he has to, not that you’re complaining in the least. You wrap your legs around his waist, pushing him in deeper each time. His grip on your thighs tightens as your nails scrape over his skin.
“You feel so fucking good” he groans, his body burning with need. Your breathy moans and whimpers spur him on. His hand comes up to brace himself against the mirror as he loses himself in your body, the sounds of the way he’s fucking you echoing in the small bathroom. He can feel your tightness, how wet you are for him, the way you clench around him with each thrust like he belongs inside you, like you own him.
“Y-you have to p-pull out” you pant harshly, your head falling back so you can see yourself in the mirror.
“Oh baby girl, if you think for one second I’m not making you sit at that table with my cum dripping between your legs?”
His thrusts become sharper and you cry out
“I’m not fucking you dumb enough”
He covers your mouth as he thrusts into you harder, keeping all those high-pitched whines and noises quiet. He wishes he didn’t have to keep you so quiet, but he doesn’t care all that much when you take his hand and push it up further covering your nose too.
“Oh, Y/N” He moans, holding his hand down harder so you can barely breathe, it sends his head spinning, his hips stuttering and jerking messily as he pounds into you so desperately.
His lips spill praises for you, “Good girl” “so fucking tight” he can feel you clenching around him more and more as your back arches and your body shudders, your orgasm rippling through you and that’s all it takes for him to cum with you, pumping his seed into you.
He pulls his hand away and you gasp in air as he collapses against you. You hug him to your chest as he nuzzles his face into you.
“Fucking hell” he moans into your neck and you trail your fingers through his hair in response, tugging lightly so he’ll look up at you. You press your lips to his, giggling quietly and he grins, kissing you back.
“You think they know?” You blush while he sets you back down, helping you rearrange your clothes, your legs are still wobbling and it just makes him want to do it all over again
“I mean, probably” he chuckles, and you groan, letting your head fall against his chest.
“That’s…. Something”
“Hey you’re the one who started this, you really didn’t think it through huh?” He taps your forehead and you huff at him while he gets himself put back together. You make him bend down to fix his hair and he smirks, staring into your eyes while you do it.
“Quit it!!” You frown a little and that just makes him smile more
“You’re really pretty”
You look at him, your fingers tangled in his hair and he leans in, giving you a soft kiss, still staring into your eyes.
“You’re really intimidating” you admit shyly and he gives you a funny look
“Honey we just fucked in a public bathroom and now you want to get all shy on me? Now you want to tell me how intimidating I am?”
“Oh shut up!!” You whack his chest and shove him away and he laughs, pulling you back into him and kissing your neck
“Awww don’t pout baby girl, you’ll turn me on again”
“Eddie Diaz!” You squeak and before he can embarrass you anymore there’s a knock at the door
“Occupied!” Eddie calls out as he pushes you against the wall now, you whimper and lift your leg around his waist and he picks you back up
“Yeah I know, Tommy and I are hungry. Are you guys done yet?? Because she’s gonna be too exhausted to eat”
Your mouth drops open and Eddie lets his head fall onto your shoulder. He chuckles and shakes his head before setting you back down carefully
“Yeah... Buck. We’re done.”
Two weeks later Eddie comes into work, a little pep in his step. He jogs up the stairs and stops at the top, his team standing there. Bobby has a cake in his hands as the other three cheer and a little burst of confetti is thrown on him.
“Whaaat’s this all about?” He laughs, shaking the confetti from his hair
“Congratulations on getting laid!!” Chimney cheers
“Continuously!” Hen adds and Bobby shows him the cake that says “Congrats! You got laid!” With a cute little bed in the middle of it
“We’re gonna be brothers!!” Buck squeals as he jumps on him

The idea was good, the execution not so much
Established Buddie x Reader, ft our fave Diaz Chris. You and Chris plan a surprise for the boys, it doesn't quite go to plan.
The house was quiet when Eddie and Buck arrived home from a 24 hour shift. Usually when they finished at a reasonable hour they came home to hustle and bustle. You and Chris generally had music playing as you cooked up a storm throughout the kitchen.
Instead it was almost eerie silent in their house, in fact if it wasn’t for your car parked in the driveway they’d assume no one was home.
Buck shrugged at Eddie as they made the way down the hallway, peering in doors as they passed. It wasn't till they opened the door to the living room that they found any signs of life. Twinkling fairy lights were hung across the walls, basking the room in a light golden glow. Soft instrumental music was playing gently from the speaker and the table was set for four.
"What's going on?" Eddie whispered to his partner, Buck for his part looking just as bewildered. "Where are they?"
Buck shook his head in confusion, making his way into the living room. He spotted you and Chris pretty quickly, both sunk into the sofa fast asleep. Eddie followed him over and both men couldn't help the grin when they saw their partner and son, clearly accidentally napping while waiting for the boys to come home.
"Hi mijo," Eddie whispered, gently pulling Chris from your embrace and into his arms. "Dad! Bucky! You're home," He whispered wiping the sleep from his eyes.
"Mom and I were supposed to surprise you, we didn't mean to fall asleep,"
"We can see that superman." Buck whispered, "What's the big surprise?"
"Ay dios mio," Eddie suddenly exclaimed, staring down at Chris in shock.
"What Eds?" Buck questioned.
"Look at Chris' shirt Ev,"
Chris grinned stretching out so Buck could read it properly. There sprawled across his tiny chest were the words 'BEST BIG BROTHER'.
"Oh my god," Buck gasped, mouth opening and closing but no other words coming out.
"Surprise," You whispered nervously, having woken up from your nap to Eddie's shout of shock. Both boys whipped around to face you, as you grinned sheepishly.
"Baby, is this true? It's not a prank right?" Buck whispered, placing his hand across your stomach like he already expected a big bump to be there.
"It is, I found out yesterday. Chris and I had a big plan to tell you both, there's even a bun sitting in the oven," When Evan got a look of concern on his face you followed up with "the oven is turned off, I promise."
"You're sure? About being pregnant I mean."
"Positive, literally." Handing over multiple tests to each of the boys, all with the same result. "Chris was actually the one who mentioned it, I may be slightly bias but I think our son is a genius,"
"So Amy from school, her Mom is pregnant too and she was talking about how she is feeling sick and getting tired more often." Chris chattered happily, "So then when Mom was like that the last week I thought that maybe she was."
"That's great superman," Buck said absentmindedly.
You couldn't help but notice that Eddie hadn't even spoken yet, and Buck's tone was making you worried. While you had discussed expanding your family before, it was always talked about in the vague future and the idea that maybe they weren't ready was chewing you up.
"Hey Chris honey, I think you should get the card we made for your dads! I think it's sitting in your bedroom." He excitedly agreed, giving you a short time to talk to your partners.
"I know this is a shock, but is this okay? It's sudden but I love you both soo much and.."
"Baby," Buck interrupted, wrapping you in his arms. "this is the greatest gift you could ever give me. I can't wait to have another child with you two, honestly I can't wait to see Chris as a big brother." You sighed in relief knowing at least one of your partners was on board.
"Eds?" Buck whispered while directing the other mans head up gently with his hand and gently placing a kiss on his forehead. You both noticed the tears in his eyes as he struggled for words.
"I am so so grateful to you [y/n], for allowing me the opportunity to get to be a dad to another child again. I love you more than words can express." Tears of happiness began to fall down your cheeks as he pressed a soft peck to your lips and place his hand gently on your belly.
"And Buck, I can't wait to watch you be a Dad to this baby. You are an amazing parent to Chris but I am honored to be a dad with you again to this baby, to get to watch you Buck, and you too [y/n], get to experience every little moment together. Between us and Chris this baby is going to be so loved and cherished,"
Buck and Eddie wrapped you between them in a hug, whispering words of excitement and joy. You only parted when Chris came back in the room, a grin on his face as he thrust the card towards Eddie and Buck.
"Here" he grinned, passing over the card with the front reading '10 reasons why going to the zoo will help me be a better big brother!'

Boys
dad!Oscar x mom!reader
Sum: Oscar's not a fan of his daughter going on a date.
WC: 928
Warnings: old draft not proofread.
this was not what I originally wanted to post but this was in my drafts so I'm letting it go out into the Tumblr world.

"Ay! Papaaa! It's not a big deal!" The teenage girl dramatically raised her voice throwing an outfit on her bed, she suddenly hated her closet. Her father's arms crossed over his chest, an unhappy look on his face as he stood in the door frame. "Who is this guy? Why have you never told me about him? Where is he taking you?"
You chuckled rolling your eyes at the small argument as you stirred your pot of food, your youngest sat in her high chair giggling her head off. "You're laughing? Girl you are next." You joked pointing at her which only made the twelve-month-old laugh even more. A bedroom door slammed and your sixteen-year-old appeared. "Ugh!! What is wrong with your husband!?"
He was dad when everything went her way but was quickly your husband once when things go awry.
You shrugged. "You know how he is, girl, but I mean you could have said something to him."
She let out an exaggerated sigh and plopped herself down around the kitchen table. Your daughter had let it be known to you and you only that she had a crush on a boy named Nico at school, you'd known of Nico, met him a few times and seemed nice. Then one day your girl comes home squealing with joy about how the young man liked her back and asked her out on a date. You were happy for her and found it a bit cute that she'd reached this stage in life, a bit cautious of what was to come if the unspeakable happened.
Young heartbreak was a bitch.
Oscar on the other hand was not too fond of the thought of his daughter, his precious angel, going on a date with a boy he's never heard about. The doorbell rang causing your child to jump up, her hands ironing out her light blue dress from any creases, even though there were none. Your brooding husband came sliding down the hall on his way to open the door. You had asked her to turn down the stove so that you could beat him to the door so he wouldn't terrify the young boy.
He caught wind of what you were doing at picked up his pace, you attempted to match him and almost met up with him until he shoved you out of the way, not so hard that you would plummet onto the floor but enough to knock you off balance.
Oscar had made it to the entrance his iconic scowl returning to his face as he answered the door. The young man swallowed, fear visibly creeping in when he was met with a more well-toned, and well-tatted man who looked like he was ready to put his foot where the sun doesn't shine. "Who are you?" He nodded.
"I'm uh, I'm Nico. I'm... I'm here to pick up Nia... if that's okay." He stammered.
"Well, it's no-"
"Nico, hi sweetie how are you?" You chimed in pulling on Oscar's arm, your nails digging into his skin causing him to hiss and cuss under his breath. "I'm good Mrs. Diaz. How about yourself?"
"I'm great. I think Nia should be here any second she's just grabbing her jacket."
"Where you guys going?" Oscar asked arching his brow. Nico played with the bottom of his black shirt, the poor kid was sweating. "Just the movies, McDonald's or something after."
You smiled. "That's nice."
Nia cleared her throat as she appeared from behind her mother. "Hi, Nico." She blushed. His smile was all of a sudden brighter. "Hi Nia, you look pretty."
"Thank you. You look pretty too." You softly smiled as you watched Nia's face fall, probably thinking what she said was stupid.
"Thanks."
The young girl said goodbye to her parents and they watched her get into the passenger seat of his car and drive off. You closed the door turning to Oscar who still had a frown on his face. "You are a piece of work Spooky."
He kissed his teeth, you never called him that unless you were upset. Now, technically, you weren't mad at him you just wanted to sting him a little for almost ruining your daughter's nice evening. "She couldn't wait until she was at least twenty-five to start dating." He groaned.
You raised your eyebrows in amusement. "You didn't wait. I didn't wait. We were their age once Papi. Es la vida. Let her grow."
He pouted, that was his firstborn, the first to have him completely wrapped around her finger, poor Oscar was at her beck and call no matter what. So, as much as he hated to say it out loud, he was sad that his little girl was growing up right before his eyes. Your husband followed you back into the kitchen, slithering his hands around your waist, holding you close. He hummed at the smell of your hair pressing a kiss on the top of your head.
"If, and I mean if, he breaks her heart. I'll come with you to beat him up." The two of you laughed. "Deal."
Oscar turned his attention over to your youngest who was stuffing her face with a small store-bought cupcake. He smiled at the icing covering half her face, he grabbed a paper towel and wet it before wiping off her face. Her little hands reached for his face and he leaned into her tiny palms, kissing all over her face causing her to explode into a fit of laughs. He took her out of her high chair lifting her in the air. "You gotta wait a little longer than sixteen to date okay mi amor."
You kissed your teeth and threw a kitchen towel at him. "Estúpido."

Weekly Recap | November 25th-December 1st 2024

I replaced my computer after ten years and the keyboard is different so I'm feeling all out of sorts!!!
(as always, I do my best to find everyone's socials, if you know someone who's not tagged, please @ them in the comments!)
Complete
He’s a nester (he nests) by paleredheadinascifi (Getting Together, Post-S8E6: Confessions | 1,6K | Teen): Eddie is in love with his best friend. He’s also a mess. So he puts out some feelers. Decides to flirt. Flirt with Evan Buckley so hard that he makes a move and Eddie doesn’t have to.
if you know it in one glimpse, it's legendary by playinginthunderstorms/ @playinginthunderstorms (Post-S8E8: Wannabes, Outsider POV | 1,8K | Teen): Now they’ve arrived at house number five, and Eddie finally snaps. “What is your problem?” He turns to Buck suddenly, interrupting Mariana mid-answer. She gapes at them, startled into silence, but neither of them are looking at her, so she takes a second to compose herself while watching Buck’s eyes go wide and his body twist towards Eddie. “What?” “You’re being difficult.” “No I’m not,” Buck argues immediately. (Or, one very confused real estate agent witnesses what probably should have been a private conversation.)
You're in the car with a beautiful boy by paleredheadinascifi (S8, Eddie Coming Out, Getting Together | 2,7K | Teen): “You're in a car with a beautiful boy, and he won't tell you that he loves you, but he loves you. And you feel like you've done something terrible, like robbed a liquor store, or swallowed pills, or shoveled yourself a grave in the dirt, and you're tired." Eddie doesn't know anything about poetry, but, somehow, this queer poetry book knows everything about him.
Christopher Diaz and the Very Normal Smoothie by paleredheadinascifi (Getting Together | 3K | Teen): "Out with it, please. What was in the smoothie?” Christopher sighs. “I… can’t tell you. It won’t work if I tell you. Like a birthday wish.” Or, Christopher makes them a normal, regular smoothie. He has absolutely no ulterior motives whatsoever.
🔥Let me give you my life by paleredheadinascifi (Post-S8E6: Confessions, Getting Together | 3K | Teen): “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I am. Fuck. I am freaking out,” he agrees, lifting his head to look at Buck helplessly. “You’re in my lap.” “I’m so extremely aware of that. You’re not wearing any pants,” Buck adds. A smile tugs at the corner of Eddie’s mouth. “I am also very aware of that.” Or, another take on what happened after the couch scene. Eddie *wants*. They're both brave about it.
Rom-com gone wrong by paleredheadinascifi (Post-S8E8, Eddie Coming Out, Getting Together | 3K | General): “Can you open your eyes?” “No. I can’t look at you.” “Because I’m gay?” Buck sighs dramatically. “Because you’re pretty. And because you’re gay. Because you’re gay and pretty.” “Buck,” Eddie laughs. “Open your eyes.” Or, Eddie comes out to Buck. Buck panics. Hijinks ensue.
The feeling came late (I'm still glad I met you) by paleredheadinascifi (Post-S8E8: Wannabes, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): "Come on, Buck. Let it out. I hate this, too. I hate leaving you. Tell me how much you hate it. Yell at me, Buck. Come on, yell at me,” he begs. Buck snaps. He pushes off the couch and crowds into Eddie’s space. “Is this what you wanted?” He spits, pushing hard enough against Eddie’s chest that he takes a step backwards. “Hmm? You want me to lose it on you?” Or, Eddie cannot handle Buck pretending to be fine about his move to Texas. He, in fact, refuses to let him.
And then I go and spoil it all by paleredheadinascifi (S8, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): “It has been exactly 44 hours since Buck was informed that he is in love with Eddie, and things are going just peachy. For example, he’s about to spend the following 24 hours attached at the hip with Eddie at their shared place of employment. Contractually obligated to be in the same room, same engine, same burning building as him and not be weird about it. You might even say he’s contractually fucked.” Or, Buck realizes he’s in love with Eddie and tries not to be weird about it. He does a terrible job.
Help me, Help me, I’m all out of Lies by scarmaddiewrites (Post-S8E8: Wannabes | 4K | Teen): Looking back, Buck knew he should have trusted his gut and not given Tommy a second chance after he abandoned him on the curb halfway through their first date. That one decision could have spared him weeks of heartache. Or: 5 times Buck lied about his breakup with Tommy and the one time he didn’t.
Christopher Diaz and the Gay Agenda by paleredheadinascifi (S8, Getting Together | 4K | Teen): “Um. He’s.. well — he has a list. An…agenda.” “An agenda?” “Yes. Like, you know. It’s a - - it’s a gay agenda,” Buck winces. “Great. Okay. So, my son is queer-eyeing me?” “I believe that is what’s about to happen, yes.” “Wonderful.” Or, Christoper hyper-fixates on Queer Eye and takes it out on his freshly gay father. Buck's there, too.
Come Back…Be Here by scarmaddiewrites (Post-S8E8: Wannabes, Pre-Buddie | 5K | Teen): Chimney Han just wants to spend some alone time with his wife. His brother-in-law hasn’t gotten the memo
and its sequel It’s officially Christmas, and I’m officially yours (Post-S8E8: Wannabes | 5K | Explicit): Buck hasn’t felt this happy in years. And considering his still-broken leg, that’s saying a lot. But for the past two weeks, there’s been a constant smile on his face. Every time he glances up to see Chris and Eddie, his family, here in California where they belong, his heart feels lighter.
🔥you're in my blood like holy wine by granadas (Post-S4E14: Survivors, Canon Divergent, Getting Together | 12K | Explicit): It doesn't matter that they've never really talked or hung out like this before. Maddie is Buck's family, which makes her Eddie's family. If what she needs is a wine night, Eddie's gonna make it the best damn wine night of her life. "I'm in." OR: Months after the shooting, Eddie and Buck dance closer and closer to confessing their feelings for each other — until Eddie agrees to wine nights with Maddie and Karen, and Buck thinks he's dating someone new.
I’ll run to you (there’s no place I wouldn’t go) by kabnd/ @polkadotk804 (Post-S8E8: Wannabes, Eddie Moves To El Paso | 14K | Teen): Eddie accidentally implies to his temporary coworkers in El Paso that he and Buck are more than just friends. Chris wants to keep playing the game, which is fun until Buck makes a surprise appearance at the firehouse. But that’s not the only time an attempted surprise wreaks havoc for Buck and Eddie, and Chris is happy to go along for the ride.
🔥lonely little love dog by littleghost/ @ghostlandtoo (Canon Divergent, Post-S8E4: Confessions | 24K | Mature): When the 118 is closed for reconstruction after an earthquake, Buck is a floater for different stations around the city. He tries not to let it get to him. Much.
WIP
🔥 go and kill, go and die by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Zombie Apocalypse AU | 13/14 | 54K | Mature): The 118 are a group of survivors in a small California town in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. For months they've been isolated and safe. But the arrival of some new players, the search for some missing loved ones, will shake everything up and put their little team in jeopardy.
Gentle On My Mind by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon Divergent, Shannon Lives, Buck/Eddie/Shannon | 8/? | 52K | Explicit): In which Shannon lives, tells a lie, and sends hers, Eddie's, and Buck's lives down a very different path.
🔥 Things We're All Too Young to Know by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon S1-S6, Divergent Post-S6 | 140/? | 450K | Mature): This is a love story. Even if it doesn’t always look like it. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it. A look back on Eddie and Buck's lives up to now, and what led them to each other, interpreted from the current 9-1-1 canon.

Part 1
Summary: (Y/n), Evan and Eddie take their kids on a cruise on holiday, and they have a lot of family fun and antics along the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay, how are we doing this?" Eddie planted his hands down on his hips and looked round the room with raised brows. His eyes flitted between his troop and his partners as he tried to think.
This wasn't going to be easy.
"Everyone pair up, we'll use the buddy system."
"Mummy?" Reaching her hands out, Ava latched herself to (Y/n)'s leg and looked up at her with wide eyes.
All the kids knew what the buddy system was. If they were all going out together as a family or in a big group like they did at the station, they had to pair up. The kids had to pair themselves with one parent so if they all got separated or some of the kids walked too slow or too fast, they were at least with a parent.
(Y/n) wrapped her left arm around Ava and started running her fingers through her hair as she smiled down at her. And her eyes darted around the room when Lois took Eddie's hand and stood at his side while Chris grinned up at Evan and stood beside him.
"Who wants trouble?" Each of them shared a look before Evan ultimately walked over to where Tilly was sat near the door and scooped her up. He would watch Chris and Tilly and keep her out of trouble.
Eddie nodded to himself and slung on his backpack and propped his sunglasses on top of his head. The boat had finally ported on the first island so they were leaving the boat for a day in the sun. Although he was sure if they could the kids would have stayed on the boat all day to be in the pool and watch the evening shows. They were all happy enough on the boat, but they were still excited to go out for a wander.
Eddie looked himself up and down before he grinned down at Lois. The weather was scorching, it was as if the sun had intensified and moved closer so they were all getting fried. He had chosen a very thin, grey sports vest and a pair of cargo pants with enough pockets for when the kids found shells or 'treasure' they wanted to bring back. And he had his trainers rather than his flip flops in case he had to go running with or after the kids.
Lois swung back and forth on his arm while she grinned and waited, bubbling with excitement and rearing to go. She was wearing her rainbow dress and sandals and (Y/n) had done her hair in two plats to keep it from her eyes.
"Baby-" (Y/n) moved near the door and got the pushchair but she planted a hand on her hip and rose a brow when Tilly squealed. The youngest girl shook her head and stomped her feet, her way of telling them she was walking, not going in the pram. "Ava?"
A tender smile lit up Ava's lips and she nodded, grabbing her teddybear from the bed before she rushed forward and clambered into the pram. She was only five and although she was fine walking about, she felt safer in the pushchair. They usually switched between Ava and Tilly in the chair, with at least one girl in the chair it was easier to keep an eye on all the kids.
"If you're walking, you can wear this." Evan crouched down in front of Tilly and found her small Lion backpack. He looped her arms into the straps, buckled it up at her chest and took hold of the plastic lead attached to the bag. He slipped the cuff over his wrist and gave a little tug on the lead.
It was so she would walk with them but they could still have control and stop her running away or veering off the path or going too far. They all knew she was a menace.
"Off we go."
Evan grabbed his cap and settled it over his hair, keeping one hand around Tilly's strap while he held Chris's hand and followed (Y/n) out the cabin. He let his eyes dance up and down her frame while his lips curled into a smile.
She was wearing a loose, plum coloured dress that stopped halfway down her thighs. She had thin spaghetti straps on her shoulders and the dress was low cut down her chest. It was one of the thinnest dresses (Y/n) had. She needed something thin and loose because of the heat.
Evan begrudged wearing a shirt, but he knew he couldn't exactly go out in the street without one or go in shops just wearing his denim blue shorts. Not many places allowed that sort of thing. So he wore one of his gym shirts that felt loose and breathable.
When they reached the end of the corridor and stood in front of the lift, Evan leaned down and scooped Tilly up. He would rather hold her now and let her walk once they were safely off the boat. He had a feeling it was going to be busy trying to get ashore.
The seven of them squeezed into the lift together and Eddie grinned when Lois moved to stand in between his legs. He moved his hands to hold her shoulders while she tilted her head back into his stomach and leaned into him.
"You okay?" Evan moved his hand to rest on (Y/n)'s lower back as they walked out the lift with Tilly in his right arm and Chris clinging to the pram so they all stuck together. They followed out after Eddie and Lois and got in line with everyone else who was on the basement level of the ship, waiting to scan their keycards and walk out onto shore.
"Hm." (Y/n) nodded and pressed a kiss to Evan's shoulder while she folded her arms over the pram and leaned forward against it to prop herself up.
"What's the plan?" Eddie looked over his shoulder while he grabbed the handful of keycards he had in his wallet.
They had a keycard for each child- except for Tilly- so whenever they left the boat, they could scan in and out so the crew knew if anyone was left behind at port. They left the kid's keycards in the room the past three days they had been on board, they only needed one for the adults to scan in and out of the room.
(Y/n) tilted her head back and looked up at Evan. He was the one who had gone through all the excursions with Chris to see what they could do at each port. He was the one who did his homework and found out what was on offer and what they could do, (Y/n) and Eddie let him plan and choose.
"No attractions at this one, tomorrow they have a waterpark… there's a few nature parks and shops here, we can go for a wander."
There weren't many excursions to do at this stop so they hadn't booked any. At the next port tomorrow, there was a bus that would take them to a waterpark which was perfect for all of them. And other days they could take tours round the valleys and see where some movies were filmed.
But today could be a slow day for them, they could take their time and just wander around and have a look at different shops and see if there were parks nearby.
"Sounds good."
Eddie kept one hand on Lois's shoulder and held out the keycards for him, Lois, Chris and Ava while (Y/n) and Evan got theirs out ready. Once they were all scanned through, Eddie flipped down his sunglasses and led the way with Lois down the small bridge onto the quay side.
He moved to the left, keeping hold of Lois while he stretched his right arm out and looped it over (Y/n)'s shoulders. He could feel a grin spreading across his face when he watched Evan take a map from one of the locals who was handing them out to everyone.
"Alright, stay close and no running. If we get lost, we blame your dad." He stuck his tongue out at Evan who frowned and huffed.
"We won't get lost."
Evan could read a map. He had never gotten them lost before, and it would be pretty hard to lose a cruise ship of that magnitude. He bet they could walk miles into the town centre and still see the quayside.
Once they were away from the docks and on a main street, Evan leaned down and set Tilly down on her feet. He kept the band strapped tight around his wrist so she could only walk a few paces in front of him. She kept up pace with the pushchair and grinned when (Y/n) handed her a bottle of juice to keep her occupied and keep her fluids up.
"Alright troop, let's go."
***
A groan tumbled past Evan's lips as he hung his head down and slumped his elbows onto his thighs. He could feel the sweat trickling down the back of his neck towards his shirt that was already dripping and sticking to him like he had been dunked in the sea. The back of his calves were aching. His skin was blotched red and pink and he was sweating a mixture of suncream and the flavoured water they had all been downing by the gallon.
He whipped his sunhat from his head and fanned it in front of his face that hung down while he sat on the stone wall outside one of the many shops on the street. The wall was almost as burning as Evan was, it felt like he was sat on hot coals.
His brow arched and his lips quirked into a half-smile when Lois sat down on the floor between his legs. She leaned her cheek up against his bare leg and stayed tucked up against the wall so Evan was providing her with some shade.
"Who's bright idea was it to walk everywhere?" Eddie scratched the back of his neck and stretched his back out while he looked down at Evan.
The heat hadn't bothered Eddie as much as it bothered (Y/n) and Evan, although Evan rarely complained about the heat until now. He was fine until they stopped walking, then he suddenly realised how badly his legs ached and how much he was sweating.
Eddie was used to the heat, he would feel the pain later when they got back on the boat and his legs started to ache tonight when they finally stopped walking.
When Evan swatted the back of his leg, Eddie leaned down and swiped the hat from his hand and plonked it on his own head. Covering his hair that was damp and deflated with the heat and moisture in the air.
"Everyone okay?" Eddie looked around their group while they all huddled together near a parade of shops.
Lois was sat with Evan, Chris had seated himself in the empty pushchair while they stopped for a break. Ava was leaning back into Eddie's legs with Tilly stood in front of them since Eddie was how holding onto the lead connected to her backpack. And (Y/n) sat down next to Evan on the wall.
"I think I'm gonna melt." (Y/n) muttered quietly under her breath.
She pressed her left hand down on the wall and leaned back on her arm while her right hand rubbed circles across her stomach. She felt like an ice lolly that was melting in the midday sun. And she knew they were all about ready to make the walk back to the boat.
They had gone round shops, stopped for drinks, gone round a very lovely rainforest park and had looped back round to some more shops. But time was dragging on and everyone was getting restless.
"Are we all up for the walk back? It's not that far from here." Evan looked round their group but he found himself squinting now he didn't have his hat on. He pushed up to his feet, being mindful of Lois, and turned so he was stood in front of Eddie who had his hands on his hips.
Tilting his head to the left, Evan wormed his way beneath his cap Eddie was wearing and stole a kiss from his lips while his hands wormed up to cup Eddie's neck. He could tell Eddie was taken back by the sudden attention and when they parted, Evan slid the glasses off his nose and took them for himself.
He wasn't walking round blind while Eddie had both the cap and the sunglasses. That wouldn't be fair.
He muttered a quiet 'Thank you', swung his backpack on his shoulders and stood in front of (Y/n) with his hands held out towards her.
(Y/n) sighed and closed her eyes for a few seconds before she gathered enough strength to sit up properly again. She let Evan take her hands and slowly pull her to her feet, but she could feel her knees trembling like they were about to buckle and give way.
She leaned forward and pressed her temple into Evan's shoulder for a few seconds while he kissed the top of her head and rubbed circles along her back. If the heat wasn't so sweltering they would all have had a bit more energy, but the heat just seemed to drain them.
After a few seconds, (Y/n) pulled back and jostled her bag higher on her shoulder before she held her hand out for Chris. He climbed out the pushchair and took her hand while Evan took the empty chair and Ava stuffed her hand into the pocket on Evan's shorts. They had switched buddies while they were in the shops and Ava was now attached to Evan.
Whereas Eddie had stayed with Lois and gained Tilly. He thought their youngest would have needed a nap by now but she was still wide awake and rearing to walk.
"Do you want a drink?" Eddie looked over at (Y/n) as she walked beside him while Evan and Ava took the lead since Evan had the roads memorised to get them back to the boat.
"No thanks."
"You haven't drank a lot," He was the one carrying the drink bottles so every now and then, one of the kids would grab Eddie's backpack and yank him to a stop so they could raid him for a drink. But he knew (Y/n) hadn't had as much as he would like considering they had been walking non stop all morning and they were sweating.
"My bladder says different," (Y/n) muttered back with a small smile while she swung her and Chris's hands back and forth between them. They had to keep stopping and checking if stores had toilets in them and most of those times were for (Y/n), not the kids. She wanted to make the walk back without needing another stop or else it would be hard to get herself moving again.
Eddie's eyes drifted ahead to look at Tilly when she squealed. The toddler was stomping her feet as she walked, plodding in her pink sandals that matched the blushing pink shorts and frilly top she wore.
"Papa," Tilly held her arms out in front of her and made a grabbing motion with her hands, but when Evan looked over his shoulder, he wasn't sure what she was after.
"Do you want a drink, baby?" He leaned over and found her bottle from the pushchair and held it down to her.
Tilly gave the ice blue bottle a shake until the juice started to spray out like a fountain and she stomped her feet again. Eddie was sure he heard her murmur 'catch' before she suddenly tossed the bottle down the path and watched it roll.
She set off into a trot, causing Eddie's arm to jolt when she ran but got pulled backwards by the plastic lead attached to her backpack. She gave out a little whine before she moved forward again and grabbed the bottle. Her head turned to the right and she looked over at (Y/n) and Eddie with a grin that started to fade when neither of them smiled.
"Don't throw it." (Y/n) warned but she rolled her eyes when Tilly blankly ignored her and tossed the bottle.
"Ow! Papa, she hit me." Ava pushed up into Evan's side, a deep frown setting across her face as she looked up at him. The bottle whacked her in the arm. It hadn't been hard enough to bruise or really hurt her, but it was enough to jolt her arm and cause a slight throb.
"Tilly that's naughty. You can go in the pram now."
Everyone stopped walking so Evan could reach over and scoop her up. Eddie let go of the strap so Evan could turn around and sit Tilly down in the pushchair. He buckled her in, despite the way she whined and wriggled and when she bashed her foot into Evan's knee, he held both her feet in one hand and pointed at her.
"No."
Tears bubbled up in her eyes at Evan's stern voice and the look he gave her before he let go and stood up to push the chair again.
Tilting her head to the right, (Y/n) leaned against Eddie's bicep while Chris continued to swing her left hand back and forth. She felt like she needed a power nap to reenergise herself and gather her senses. If the kids wanted to go back in the pool, (Y/n) would gladly sleep on a deck chair while they had a swim.
She couldn't resist from leaning a little further into Eddie and he gladly curved his arm around her waist and tucked her into his side. While he looked down at Lois when she tugged on his hand.
"Can we do the quiz when we get back, daddy?" There were lots of quizzes on throughout the day. Some were small ones in the morning, others were adult ones in the evening. But Lois had looked at the cruise ship leaflet and it said there would be a movie quiz this afternoon in one of the lounge rooms.
"Sure, is there a prize for this one?"
"A gift bag, I think."
"We'll need your dad to win it for us, then. I think mum's gonna be asleep when we get back." Eddie grinned when (Y/n) gave his arm a squeeze, but she didn't object.
All the kids knew if they were doing their homework, Evan was the parent to go to. He was great at math and he had a lot of random facts and knowledge stored away which won them a lot of quizzes back home. They would need Evan to do the quiz with them if they wanted to win, and Eddie loved to see Evan light up when he got the answers right and see how bashful he was whenever they won.
"When are you two going in the casino?" (Y/n) tried to keep her eyes open but it was hard when all she wanted to do was sit down or go to sleep.
She looked between her boys with a grin and she loved the smirk that formed on Evan's lips when he glanced over his shoulder at them. There was a casino on the lower level of the boat that neither of the boys had checked out yet. They knew once Evan got in there and started playing, security would keep an eye on him to make sure he wasn't cheating. His advantage in math made him a newfound whiz in the casino.
"We might give it a try tonight, see how much we can win." Evan winked before he looked back ahead and steered them down the next road on their left.
He smiled when Ava started to point and exclaim 'it's the boat!' while she clung to the pushchair. She wanted to run ahead but she knew better. They had all been told they couldn't run here because none of them knew where they were and they couldn't run once they got on the quay side because they would be near water.
"Can I watch?" Chris leaned around (Y/n) to look over at Eddie who shook his head.
"Sorry bud, you need to be twenty-one to get inside. I'll take a video when your dad wins us a fortune."
"You can pick us a show to go and watch." (Y/n) kissed the top of Chris's head and gave his hand a squeeze. The kids could pick something to do, whether it was sitting in the lounge to watch a show or taking a walk round the boat or just watching a movie in their cabin.
"And I thought you were with me for my good looks." Evan quipped over his shoulder while he leaned forward and snook a glance at Tilly. He smiled happily when he realised she was almost asleep. She was due a nap and she had been walking around all morning, she had tired herself out which is what they needed.
(Y/n) looked to her left when she felt Chris let go of her hand and she watched as he walked a few steps ahead until he was walking beside Evan. They were almost back at the boat now so it didn't matter if they didn't pair up, as long as they all stayed together. And (Y/n) and Eddie were walking slow whereas Chris wanted to walk at Evan's pace.
"Papa… I need the toilet." Ava let go of the pram to give a light tug on Evan's arm. She stared up at him as his smile softened and he looked between her and the boat.
"We're almost there, look. Five minutes, okay?" He wasn't sure if there were any toilets round here at the dock, but they were only a five minute walk to the boat. And there wasn't a queue so once they were on board, Evan could guide her straight to the nearest bathroom.
She nodded and settled for looping both hands around his arm as they carried on walking.
A sigh passed through (Y/n)'s lips and she couldn't refrain from closing her eyes. Just for a few seconds as they all headed down the quay side towards the boat. Her face nuzzled into Eddie's chest and she moved her hand to rub up and down his back.
But when she opened her eyes, a jolt ran down her spine when she realised her vision was starting to blur.
It felt like her legs were made of cement that was starting to set. The further they walked, the less her legs wanted to go until she was practically shuffling her feet. All her concentration shifted to keeping her legs moving; they just needed to get back on the boat. Back to the air con and the cold drinks and somewhere they could sit down, then they would all feel better.
"Babe…" She wasn't sure what she was trying to say, but she didn't have the will or the energy to keep talking.
"Yeah?"
Eddie looked to the left but his eyes widened and he yanked his hand free from Lois's tight grip when (Y/n) stumbled.
His left hand fisted in her dress near her hip to try and stop her when she went limp and lolled forwards. And his right arm sped out and bolted around her chest just as her feet bent and her knees scraped the floor. He bit his lip when he felt (Y/n)'s head bash into his shoulder and he tried to get his legs to work so he could manoeuvre in front of her.
"Babe! Babe, watch the kids."
Eddie let go of (Y/n)'s dress and adjusted his arms so he was holding her up against his chest a bit better. Before he slowly went down on his knees and eased (Y/n) down with him so she was slumped down on him.
"Oh fuck- Lois come here please baby." Reaching out, Evan took Lois's hand and pulled her across to him and stood her next to Ava. He moved the pushchair towards the wall on their right and ushered the kids to stand next to it to they were only three feet away from (Y/n) and Eddie.
Sinking back on his heels, Eddie gently turned (Y/n) around in his arms and parted his knees to the sides so she was laid between his legs. Her back slouched against his chest and he leaned her head back on his shoulder while his hand moved to hold her chin, with his fingers pressed against her neck.
"Baby… baby, come on." Her pulse was lower than he expected, but then again, Eddie thought with the heat she would have a raging pulse. And she wasn't in the danger zone which was a relief.
He pressed the back of his hand against her temple, she felt flushed but she didn't have a fever which was good.
His head tilted back and looked up when he felt someone behind him and his frown softened when he realised it was Evan. He felt Evan kiss his temple before he rummaged around in Eddie's backpack and found a bottle of water.
"Tell me this is just the heat." He almost pleaded while he placed the water bottle down beside Eddie's thigh.
"Yeah, I think so."
Reaching down, Eddie gently held (Y/n)'s chin and tilted her head forward before he curled his fingers into a fist and started rubbing his knuckles up and down her sternum. He could feel the relief washing over him when a quiet murmur passed through (Y/n)'s lips and she leaned her head to one side.
"There we go, come on mi amor." Eddie kept hold of her chin and pushed forward so (Y/n) was sitting up.
Both men could see it took a lot of effort for her to open her eyes and she squinted, barely able to focus with the headache she now had and the blinding afternoon sun. Eddie swiped his thumb across (Y/n)'s chin and down the side of her jaw while his other hand rubbed up and down her arm. And Evan crouched down at their side, opening the bottle of water which he held out in front of (Y/n).
"Daddy, is mum okay?" Lois leaned forward but her right hand stayed curled around the pram and she stuck close to Chris. She didn't dare step forward. They had been told to wait here and they knew better than to move about when a situation was going on.
"She's fine, sweetheart, just a bit too hot that's all. Stay there for me just for another minute, okay?"
All three kids nodded along with Eddie's words and Chris moved to stand behind the pram. He slowly started to push it forward and back two paces either way, gently swaying the pram so Tilly stayed asleep. He knew his youngest sister would only panic if she woke up and realised their mum was on the floor and both dads were fussing around her.
"Baby, you gonna try and have a drink for us?" Evan held the water bottle out to (Y/n) when he could see her eyes finally come back into focus.
He watched her take deep breaths but she groaned, pushing the bottle away while she flopped her face into the crook of Eddie's neck. She didn't want a drink. Her head was pounding and her pulse was throbbing under every inch of her skin.
"Please?"
With a sigh, (Y/n) relented. She closed her eyes and took a few small sips before she handed the bottle back to Evan and sat forward. Her hands rubbed up and down her thighs to try and bring some feeling back.
"Do you think you can walk, or do we need to carry you?" There was a hint of teasing in Eddie's voice as he perched his chin on (Y/n)'s shoulder.
"I can walk," (Y/n) would walk. She would hobble if she had to, but she wasn't being carried back on the boat with everyone- and the kids, watching. She would rather stumble along and get back on the boat with the boy's help rather than have one of them carry her back.
"Papa…"
Evan turned his head to the right and looked over at the kids. He smiled softly when he realised Chris was pushing the pram to soothe Tilly while Lois stood beside him. But when his eyes drifted to Ava, he noticed the way she was itching from foot to foot and her lips were pulled down in a deep frown.
"Baby girl, let me get mum up-"
"Papa, I need the toilet! It hurts!" Her eyes flitted between both dads while she crossed one leg over the other and doubled over. She pressed her hands down into her tummy as tears welled up in her eyes. She was only five, waiting to go to the toilet wasn't something Ava could do and she was desperate.
When a quiet "Daddy," whined past her lips and she began to fidget, Eddie sighed and looped his arms around (Y/n)'s waist.
His hands pressed against her stomach and he merged his chest against her back and slowly pushed up from his knees onto his feet. (Y/n) held Evan's hands and let them ease her up between them and when she was up, her hands moved to Evan's shoulders and she leaned forward, pressing her face into his chest.
"Can you take her and Tilly and I'll run ahead with Chris and the girls? I've got all their keycards."
"Yeah, yeah go."
It wouldn't be good for Eddie to run down onto the boat with the pushchair, he would wake Tilly for a start and the pram would slow them down. Whereas if he took the kids with him and left Tilly with Evan, he could get there faster and find the nearest toilet for Ava.
"Come here baby, alright off we go." Eddie leaned down and scooped Ava up, letting her arms coil around his neck so tightly he could barely breathe. Her face tucked into the crook of his neck and she whimpered as Eddie took Lois's hand and she held onto Chris. And the three of them made a quick beeline down towards the boat.
"Are you sure you can make it back?" Evan murmured against the top of (Y/n)'s head while his arm bound around her waist and he slowly guided her over to Tilly.
(Y/n) nodded and smiled softly when Evan moved her round so she was stood behind the pushchair. She curled her hands around the handle and felt like melting when Evan leaned his chest down over her back and attached his lips to the back of her head. He held the pram with her and kept her pinned in front of him as they made a slow walk down towards the boat.
(Y/n) could feel her knees quaking but she forced her legs to move. As soon as they were back on the boat, she could take a nap with Tilly and turn the A/C up in the room to even out her temperature.
As they walked ahead, (Y/n) moved her right hand to hold Evan's hand and she slowly moved his hand from the pram so she could press his palm against her stomach. She felt his lips spread into a grin against the back of her head and his fingers danced up and down her abdomen when they baby started to kick.
"At least she's awake and happy." His elbow pinned into (Y/n)'s waist and he moved his hand round to cradle her stomach as they carried on walking.
He looked down when (Y/n) leaned her head back on his shoulder, looking up at him with a tired yet melting grin that made his heart thunder in his chest.
"You don't know it's a girl."
She felt Evan's hand worm around from her stomach to give her hip a light tap before he went back to cradling her stomach like he was trying to hold the baby for her. He leaned down and grazed his teeth against the base of her neck until (Y/n) was shivering and squirming back against him.
They hadn't found out the gender this time. The three of them wanted it to be a surprise, but the last three times (Y/n) had been pregnant, she'd had girls. Both Eddie and Evan were more than delighted. Chris was their only boy and they were outnumbered with girls; they accepted the fact that they were girl dads now.
"Oh, trust me. We're having a girl."
HOTD Favorite Christmas Music + Movie Headcanons
Merry Christmas everyone! Wanted to post something Christmassey for them (also just want to post more HOTD headcanons) so here you go!
Rhaenyra: For music I think she’s a big fan of the pop classics: Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, Last Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is You. As for movies, I feel like she’s a fan of The Holiday (prefers the Jude Law/Cameron Diaz story) and Love Actually (prefers the Bill Nighy story).
Alicent: Her favorites are definitely the choral versions of all the classic religious songs: Silent Night, Hark The Herals Angels Sing, Do You Hear What I Hear etcetera. Also fond of Pentatonix’s version of Mary Did You Know? Her favorite Christmas movies are It’s A Wonderful Life and Meet Me In St. Louis.
Daemon: I feel like he doesn’t put a lot of thought into Christmas music: just puts some of the more modern songs on and calls it a day. Loves Die Hard.
Viserys: Loves all the classic crooner’s renditions of Christmas songs (Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Bing Crosby), as well as the score to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Also loves Miracle on 34th Street and It’s A Wonderful Life.
Otto: Also a crooner guy, and that’s pretty much all he’ll listen to. Enjoys the movie White Christmas.
Aegon: Loves that one Trans-Siberian Orchestra song (you know which one I’m talking about). Loves Krampus, Home Alone, Die Hard, Violent Night, cries to It’s A Wonderful Life and unironically enjoyed Red One.
Helaena: She just has the Phoebe Bridgers Christmas songs on repeat all December, and is also fond of Silent Night. As for movies, I feel like she really loves those classic stop-motion television specials, especially Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.
Aemond: He does not strike me as a super Christmassey guy, but I can see him enjoying the more religious aspects of it - so same as his mom for the music, and declares The Hateful Eight his favorite Christmas movie.
Baela: All I Want For Christmas Is You and Santa Tell Me lover. Her favorite Christmas movies are Die Hard and The Holiday (prefers the Jack Black/Kate Winslet story).
Rhaena: Loves Fairytale of New York, the Phoebe Bridgers Christmas songs, White Winter Hymnal and Laufey’s cover of Winter Wonderland. As for movies, she loves Tangerine and The Holdovers.
Jace: Likes 80s Christmas music (Last Christmas, War Is Over, Wonderful Christmastime), and is yet another Die Hard fan.
Luke: Enjoys the secular classics (ie Jingle Bells) and Last Christmas. Loves Home Alone and A Christmas Story (but gets uncomfortable when Ralphie thinks he’s shot his eye out).
Rhaenys: I honestly feel like she has very diverse taste; she enjoys a bit of everything (classic, modern, religious, secular). Though if I had to guess, I’d say that her favorites are The Christmas Song and White Christmas.
Corlys: Yet another crooner guy, and I think he enjoys It’s A Wonderful Life and White Christmas.
Larys: Listens to the score from any Christmas themed horror movie. Loves Black Christmas and Eyes Wide Shut.
Alys: Listens to the horror scores as well, but also Christmas themed Gregorian chants and Weird Al Yankovic Christmas parodies. Also loves Black Christmas and Eyes Wide Shut. She and Larys watch them together every Christmas Eve.
Mysaria: I feel like she loves the modern pop songs - Santa Tell Me, Underneath The Tree, All I Want For Christmas Is You. As for movies, I think she’s another The Holiday lover (prefers Jack Black/Kate Winslet) but my random headcanon is that she watches a bunch of Hallmark movies every year and ranks them with a set of very strict criteria.
Criston: Choral versions and crooners exclusively. Loves Miracle on 34th Street.
My Christmas AU featuring Alex & Henry is here! It's a multichapter, second chance romance that takes place entirely on Christmas Eve. Read! Like! Comment!
Chapter 2 preview:
The car ride from D.C. to Arlington, Virginia, should have taken less than twenty minutes. However, it was Christmas Eve and even Santa with his reindeer would have been hard pressed to get out of the city quickly.
Henry didn’t mind the delay. It gave him more time to prepare for the advent of seeing Alex mentally and emotionally again after so long. He was grateful Nora wasn’t driving so she could properly stop him from spiraling. Her grandfather, who was a Senator and a good friend to Alex’s parents, insisted on having his driver shepherd Nora and Henry to Virginia. Normally, Nora would be spending the holiday with her own family, but her parents were out of the country until New Year’s Day. As such, the Halloran’s had decided to postpone Christmas until the first weekend in January.
It wasn’t much of a hardship, Nora had told Henry, since the two of them would be staying with the Claremont-Diaz family until the thirtieth when Henry would fly out of Dulles to spend New Year’s with his own family in London.
Naturally, she had neglected to mention that little tidbit until ten minutes before they were due to leave her flat. There wasn’t much he could say about it since she was hosting his “cute, pale British arse.” Her words. Luckily, Henry was used to living out of a suitcase so it didn't take long for him to be packed and ready to go.
Then, there was the pièce de résistance.
“It’s Christmas, Henry. Tis the season for awkward encounters!”
This bon mot did not comfort him in the slightest.
So, what was supposed to be a simple holiday dinner had mutated into something much more complicated and frustrating.
Tis the season, indeed.
“Hey.” Nora put a hand on the sleeve of his olive green wool peacoat. She was sitting next to him in the back seat of the SUV. Her warm brown eyes, which nicely complimented her dark skin, flickered with concern. “It’s going to be fine.”
“It’s going to be weird,” he corrected.
She rolled her eyes as her head bobbed from side to side. “Okay, yes. At first, it will be extremely weird. But things between you two will level out and it will all be fine. I know you both pretty well by now. Trust me?”
He heaved a heavy sigh. Not because he didn’t trust Nora. Quite the opposite. His apprehension sprang from not wanting to set his hopes too high. It was true he wanted nothing more than to settle things with Alex finally. Henry still had too many questions regarding their breakup. Perhaps Alex would give him the answers that had proven elusive for the past three years.
June, who looked infuriating good in her low cut dress. June, who was dancing without a care in the world. June, who had hated Bea for years for a misunderstanding. Grief Work
I have gazed the black flower blooming her animal eye. Gacela oscura. Negra llorona.
Along the clayen banks I follow her-astonished, gathering grief’s petals she lets fall like horns.
Why not now go toward the things I love?
Like Jacob’s angel, I touched the garnet of her wrist, and she knew my name. And I knew hers— it was Auxocromo, it was Cromóforo, it was Eliza. It hurtled through me like honeyed-rum.
When the eyes and lips are touched with honey what is seen and said will never be the same.
Eve took the apple in that ache-opened mouth, on fire and in pieces, from the knife’s sharp edge.
In the photo her fist presses against the red-gold geometry of her thigh. Black nylon, black garter, unsolvable mysterium—I have to close my eyes to see.
Achilles chasing Hektor round the walls of Ilium three times. How long must I circle the high gate above her knees?
Again the gods put their large hands in me, move me, break my heart like a clay jar of wine, loosen a beast from some darklong depth—
my melancholy is hoofed. I, the terrible beautiful Lampon, a shining devour-horse tethered at the bronze manger of her collarbones.
I do my grief work with her body—labor to make the emerald tigers in her hips leap, lead them burning green to drink from the violet jetting her.
We go where there is love, to the river, on our knees beneath the sweet water. I pull her under four times until we are rivered. We are rearranged.
I wash the silk and silt of her from my hands— now who I come to, I come clean to, I come good to.
maybe i'm perfect for you
Explicit | Evan Buckley & Eddie Diaz
Buck wondered why he’d agreed to work two nights in row, especially when he knew that Eddie was on the two days, meaning they would only see each other at handover.
“Tell me why, ain’t nothin' but a heartache” Hen sings as she wipes down the counters after they had eaten Bobby’s lasagne.
“Tell me why, ain’t nothin’ but a mistake.” Buck sings dramatically next to her as he puts the wooden spoon in the drainer.
Chimney laughed behind them before saying “God, you two are very perky tonight”
“I’m on shift with my favorite Backstreet Boys fan.” Hen laughs, as she does a little laugh, making Buck laugh. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
It was 8pm when Buck first called Eddie, he said it was to see if Christopher - who had a mild cold - was okay, but everyone knew it was to hear his voice, Buck was like a little love sick puppy without his Eddie around, then he’d done a workout, then another workout, he’d only stepped out of the shower 5 minutes before their first call, his hair still damp as he sat in the engine.
***
“Hey.” Buck says, laying flat on his bunk, his head propped slightly by a pillow. “How are you?”
“I’m fine Ev.” Eddie laughs, “It’s only been 4 hours since you called last.”
“I know, I just wanted to hear your voice.” Buck says, smile wide on his face.
“What are you doing?” Eddie asks, as Buck hears the springs on their bed creak slightly. “I’ve just come to bed, thought I’d watch some of that show you like.”
“Buzzfeed Unsolved isn’t a show.” Buck laughs, “It’s on YouTube.”
“God, you sound like a teenager sometimes.” Eddie says, Buck hears him let out a breathy laugh.
“It’s not my fault you’re an old man.” Buck says as he sits up and pulls his shirt over his head.
“Did you hear me?” He hears Eddie say as he puts the phone back to his ear.
“I was taking my shirt off, so no.” Buck laughs, “I don’t have bat hearing.”
“I said, you love me because I’m an old man.” Eddie says, the sound of the Buzzfeed Unsolved intro playing faintly in the background, maybe he did have bat hearing.
“That’s exactly it and definitely not because of your big dick.” Buck smirks, waiting to see how Eddie would respond.
“Evan Buckley, you are at work.” Eddie laughs, that kind of laugh the Buck could tell he was rolling his eyes. “We are not talking about my amazingly huge dick.”
Alex Claremont Diaz is throwing his annual New Years Eve party but the question on everyone’s mind is will his ex-boyfriend, Prince Henry, be in attendance? Sources tells us that the two men haven’t spoken much since their breakup, the details of which are yet to be confirmed by the two men if it was caused by their sexy emails being leaked. No one knows what’s happening with these two but one thing is for sure: we’re all watching to see what happens next.
Alex slams his laptop shut. Any harder and he could’ve broken it. He is so sick of hearing all the media bitch on and on about how they’re all watching to see if Henry’s going to his New Year’s Eve party. “No, the fuck he’s not.” He feels like yelling every time he sees something. It doesn’t help that June is also letting know about who’s keeping an eye out. It’s exhausting. Henry was no longer his boyfriend and it seems like everyone, himself included, is having a hard time coming to terms with that.
He appreciates how busy he is prepping for the party provides. Letting the planner know where to set up the DJ booth, the bars ( plural thank you very much ) and every thing else that is needed to throw his most epic party of the year. It’s a good way to NOT think about his ex. June tries to tell him that she knows Henry’s in town and Alex plays it off. He already knew because Pez had texted him and told him that they would most likely be in town by that time and Alex had just said “cool. hope I get to see you and say hi” nothing more.
It’s not that he hates Pez, it’s imposible to do so. He just hates that Pez is attached to Henry. If he sees Pez he’s most likely to see Henry right next to him and Alex rather drop dead than have to see Henry face to face. He can barely handle a picture. Face to face would break him and he would much rather not start the new year in tears. he most likely will though.
The guest arrived, the party’s in full swing and Alex is having the best time ever with his friends. That is until he starts to notice the girls getting a little jittery. then he hears the camera flashes and someone screaming OH MY GOD PRINCE HENRY ACTUALLY CAME.
He turns around, a little fast, and all of the sudden feels woozy, it’s the alcohol he thinks. It’s the alcohol and NOT Henry. Though he catches a glance at the entrance and his heart goes to the pit of his stomach and he’s pretty sure he’s going to throw up. “I can’t do this.” He mutters, making the quickest exit known to mankind because there is no way in hell he’s going to stay here and see Henry, even if he did past by Pez and Henry on his way out since they were heading towards him and the girls.
semi plotted starter for @ttheagcd ft. henry
social media is all abuzz with the news that hrh prince henry george edward james fox-mountchristen-windsor is visiting the states this holiday season with his best mate percy okonjo. the two have been spotted visiting several charities supporting children and youth, donating both time and money. rumors are they'll be joined by nora holleran later in the trip. does this mean the pair will be attending alex clermont-diaz's annual new years eve blowout again this year?
henry doesn't know why he let pez talk him into this trip. america carries too many memories and they skirt far too close alex's territory for henry's comfort. maryland is on the edge of dc and there's the fear that their paths will cross at one of the many events scheduled near the heart of the american government.
he knows pez has spoken to nora, even if his mate's been keeping the topic of their conversations a secret. to spare him more heartbreak, he supposes. henry doesn't talk about why he wanted to leave the lake house so quickly. the fear he felt when alex confessed what he truly wanted for them. it broke the illusion he'd been under in the time they spent together. he couldn't have what he really wanted and alex deserved better.
there's talk of a party and pez doesn't give him any details and that's fine with him. it's simply another schedule someone has made for him. he'll put in his appearance and smile like he's not falling apart inside.
it's not until their limo is gliding through the streets of dc that henry understands where they're headed. he turns to see pez studying him. it's the most serious he's ever seen him and he bites back on the harsh words that threaten to snap out. he takes a breath to steady himself, calming a bit. "did you and nora plan this?"
pez shrugs as the car draws closer to the white house. "bea and june might have also been involved."
of course. henry's fingers pinch the bridge of his nose. that his friend and sister had calculated something like this without him knowing was absolutely diabolical. none of them knew why he had broken things off with alex and he staunchly refused to answer any questions when brought up. he retreated back into himself and settled in to what would be his future. the spare. forever in his family's shadow.
but it seems his friends have other plans for him. he sees the concern on pez's face and the slightest shift that maybe he regrets pulling henry into this. henry sighs and rolls his neck, shifting his shoulders. preparing himself as he does for any public appearance. he won't fall apart just by being in the same room as alex. with the amount of people who crowd under the tent at the party, it would be easy to disappear and pretend everything is all right.
"tomorrow on the plane trip home, we're going to have a discussion on what is an appropriate surprise."
when the door of the limo is opened for them, henry climbs out, his professional mask slipping into place. he smiles for the cameras, slings an arm around pez's shoulders and leads him to the entrance of the party tent.
he could do this. it's just one night.
Die Hard, 1988
Pairing: Eddie Diaz x Reader
Word count: 1.9k
Notes: My phone is making the most hilarious issues and this is where I do all my work from. They’re gonna have to repair it and if they open my notes app???? I hope they enjoy what I write you know. Like I hope they’re like wow she can really write backbreaking smut
Eddie pokes his head through the door and sighs
“Just shut the fuck up okay, don’t- don’t say anything”
You pause the TV and look up from your cozy little spot on the couch. You’re under a large blanket with a glass of wine.
“Uhhh you’re not bringing anyone in with you right??”
“No? Why?” He comes into the house and you have to put your glass on the floor, your hands immediately slap over your mouth and he groans, running his hand over his face as he tosses his bag down.
He’s wearing a whole-ass Santa costume. It hangs low on his hips, and the top is half undone showing off his toned chest. You snort and he points a finger at you.
“Don’t you dare”
“Ed-“
“No. Fuck no, okay my- my last uniform got dirty and-“
You giggle into your hands and he runs his fingers through his hair, tugging at the ends.
“I didn’t want to go through the lost and found, so I just- took what we had”
Your phone suddenly starts buzzing like crazy on the coffee table, you grab it and open the nine texts Buck sent you.
“I figured he’s home by now,” It says, with eight pictures attached of Eddie in the Santa costume. You toss your head back laughing and he leans against the front door, smacking the back of his head against it.
“No please, please have your little laugh go on”
And you do, he stands there as you completely ugly laugh and almost roll off the couch onto your wine glass. He crosses his arms over his chest and nods his head as you point and kick your feet wildly. After a good six minutes, you finally calm down, panting heavily and holding your cheeks.
“Okay- okay, I’m done. I’m done” You giggle and he narrows his eyes
“You sure? Don’t wanna maybe take some pictures?”
“It’s okay” you wave your phone “Buck already sent lots”
“Of course he did. Well, now that you’ve had your fun, I’m gonna go burn these”
He pushes off the door and you sit up fast, holding the blanket to your chest
“Wait!! Wait you don’t understand” You move your glass to the table and stand up, keeping your blanket around you.
“I wasn’t just laughing because you got everything you deserved after I told you four times to bring your uniforms home this week!!”
“Hate. But go on.” He crosses his arms over his chest, and you giggle. You walk over to the couch and pull a little Santa hat from the cushions. Finally, you let the blanket drop as you set it on your head.
“Tadaaaa”
His jaw drops and you slip into your heels, batting your eyelashes at him. You do a sassy little spin, showing off the pink and red edible lingerie you’re wearing. It’s got cute pink hearts over the nipples and you smile.
“I wanted it to be more Christmassy really, but they didn’t have much. So I picked these instead and added-“ You do a little flourish and he smirks “Mini candy canes!”
“And you just decided to do this today?” He reaches for you and you walk over to him, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Well, tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and we’ve got party plans, and you know we’ll be at Athena’s all day on Christmas… so I figured you could have part of your present now”
“Part of?” he holds your hips, toying with the little band of candies and you blush
“Your other Christmas present is way more appropriate, and you know… family friendly”
“I can accept that” He lifts you up and you squeak, giggling as you cup his face and kiss him softly, he carries you back to the bedroom and you shriek as he tosses you back onto the bed.
“Eddie!”
He takes off the ridiculous shirt and you put your arms out, shaking your hands.
“Wait wait keep the pants on!”
“Baby, that’s kinky” he laughs and you throw one of your stuffed animals at him. He catches it and throws it back before turning toward the closet.
“I have an idea”
He rummages through the closet and you sit back, propping yourself up on your elbows as you wait.
“This candy ain’t gonna eat itself you know!” You tell him after a few minutes, he comes back out of the closet and rolls his eyes
“It’ll be worth it, trust me. Do me a favor and close your eyes?”
You do what he tells you, wiggling your toes and letting your head fall back as you close your eyes.
“I’m waitingggg,” You say in a singsong voice and you hear the bedroom door close.
“Okay open your eyes!”
You do as he says, lifting your head as he walks in. A couple years ago for Christmas, he and Buck went as Magic Mike Santa’s to an exclusive party at the club. It had been one of the wildest most hilarious nights you’d ever had… and you had no idea he’d kept the costume.
He stands in front of you in a tight red vest with white trim and the red Santa pants, twirling a pair of fuzzy, red sparkly handcuffs around his finger.
“Someone’s on my naughty list this year… maybe you can find a way to convince me to give you more than coal”
You burst out laughing and fall onto the pillows as he walks toward you, you reach your arms out and he lays on you, peppering kisses all over your face.
“This is literally the greatest thing in the entire world”
“You’re telling me” he snickers and holds your hips, grinding into you gently “Would you like to get to the main event now cutie?”
You nod eagerly, looking up at him, your hair splayed across the pillows
“I’m ready to earn my way back on the nice list”
“And I’m ready to enjoy this candy” He kisses you softly as your fingers work open the buttons on the vest. You push it over his shoulders and sigh dreamily, running your hands down his chest.
“Merry Christmas” He winks and you snort, rolling your eyes as he leaves kisses down your torso, enjoying how sweet you taste… in more ways than one. He licks the little candies against your pussy, they vibrate against your clit and you moan, he kisses the little pink heart and looks up at you as he grabs it in his teeth, ripping it off your body. The cord snaps and the little candies go flying everywhere, you squeak as he drags your hips closer to his mouth, his tongue licking a long flat stripe up your cunt.
“You taste so fucking good babygirl, I missed this sweet little cunt all day”
He laps at your folds, swirling his tongue around your clit before sucking it into his mouth. He hums, sending vibrations through your sensitive bud as he works you over, your back arches as you push him closer, grinding against his lips. He groans as you tug at his hair, moans falling from your lips as he slips his fingers inside you, he knows your body too well, as he feels you clench tightly around them.
“E-Eddie I’m-“
“Shhhh, no, baby, not yet.” He looks up at you through his long lashes, watching as you shake and tremble above him.
“Just a little longer, wanna enjoy this delicious pussy… in fact, I think you should too” He grabs one of the little discarded candy canes and sucks the end of it, before sliding it inside your pussy, he fucks you slowly, coating the sweet candy in your juices before pulling it away.
“Want you to eat the whole thing baby girl” He hands it to you, your jaw drops, hands trembling.
“O-okay”
“That’s my good girl” He purrs, burying his face in your pussy again, his fingers sink back inside too and you’re back to grinding on his face, you tilt your head back, circling your hips and he smacks your thigh, making you squeak.
“I said I want to watch you eat it, baby, C‘mon, taste yourself”
You do as he says, sucking on the candy cane, you blush deeply as you taste yourself on it, a musky-sweet flavor that causes your eyes to roll back as he thrusts his fingers in and out, sucking on your clit just like you’re sucking on that candy
“Mmm, you taste so fucking good baby... love eating this pretty pussy.”
He fucks you faster with his fingers, feeling you flutter around them as he rolls his tongue over your little bundle of nerves and you break, your body spasming as you cum on his hand, crying his name. He slurps up every drop, moaning desperately as he drowns in your sweet juices, his fingers still working you through your orgasm until you’re shoving his hand away from the overstimulation.
He kisses his way back up your body, his chin dripping with your juices, capturing your lips in a deliciously filthy kiss, tasting you and the candies. He rolls his hips, grinding his rock-hard cock against your soaked folds.
“I love when you cum on my tongue, mi amor” He whispers in your ear, “ Fuck, eres tan Bonita”
“That’s not fair” You gasp, still trying to come back down to earth and he chuckles.
“Oh I know baby”
Eddie grips his thick shaft, rubbing the head through your slick folds and you spread your legs immediately. With one hard thrust, he buries himself to the hilt inside you, moaning as he fills you up. He sets a deep, hard pace, pounding into you as he grips your hips bruisingly tight.
He reaches out and snaps the strings on your bra, the candy goes flying everywhere again and your laugh is interrupted by a deep moan as leans down to capture one of your nipples in his mouth, sucking and biting at it as he continues to pound into you. He enjoys the way your tits bounce in his face as he pounds into you faster, the rough snap of his hips echoing around your bedroom.
Your nails dig into his back, leaving angry red marks as you drag them downward, trying to hold onto him.
One of his hands slides down to rub tight circles on your clit, wanting you to cum again on his cock. He leans down to capture your lips in a sloppy, passionate kiss, all tongues and teeth as he fucks you right into the mattress.
The feeling of your tight walls clenching around his cock is driving him wild. "Fuck, you take my cock so well baby... love how this pussy grips me."
He fucks into you harder, the headboard smacking against the wall with each powerful thrust. His balls slap against your ass as he buries himself to the hilt inside you.
Eddie lets out a strangled moan as he comes, shoving his cock in you as far as he can and holding it there while your cunt flutters around it, cumming over him. Your body trembles wildly as you grip the sheets, cursing his name over and over, your body writhing on his cock as you finish.
He falls to your side, reaching blindly for you before pulling you into him. You cuddle into him, both of you still panting, still coming down slowly. He turns his head to look at you, smiling when you’re face to face.
“Merry Christmas Y/N”
“Merry Christmas Eddie”
(i saw some speculation about there being an emergency at the same horse ranch in a future episode, so here’s 900+ words of...something, i guess. this was supposed to be a fun outsider pov idk how it turned into angst)
When they get the call from the equestrian centre, Buck’s first thought is one of alarm, quickly squashed by the reminder that Christopher doesn’t have his therapy session that day. It’s not even a very serious call—a horse spooked and injured an instructor, who seems more embarrassed and frazzled than anything, insisting that this never happens and keeps asking after the horse, even as Hen and Chim look him over with indulgent smiles, wrapping it up as they tell him he should get checked out at the hospital, just in case.
Buck and Lucy are prepping the gurney to transport him, when he hears a familiar voice.
“Mr Buckley?”
Buck turns, frowning, but relaxes when he sees Rachel, the blonde instructor who showed Christopher the ropes when they had brought him here that first day. She walks over to them, looking pleasantly surprised.
“I didn’t know you were a firefighter!” She says, giving Lucy a brief smile before turning her attention back onto him. “I haven’t seen you since Christopher was enrolled—his other dad is usually the one who brings him.”
Buck’s heart just about drops into his stomach and his smile freezes on his face. He can sense Lucy staring at him curiously out of the corner of his eye. He refuses to look at her.
“Ah, yeah—” He begins, with an awkward laugh, unsure of how to correct her. The thing is, this isn’t exactly new to him. He’s been mistaken as Chris’ dad, as Chris’ other dad more times than he can count at this point. At the mall with Santa, at the zoo, hell, at Chris’ school. But it feels different, now. It feels painful, like a reminder of everything he can’t have but is clinging onto anyway; a reminder of the yawning distance between him and Eddie, only starting to tentatively close after Eddie’s breakdown; a reminder of the fact that he can only have this, have Chris, if Eddie—
Anyway. It’s a lot.
Before Buck can stutter out a reply, Rachel continues. “Chris is such an amazing kid,” she gushes and some of the tightness in Buck’s chest settles a little because hell yeah, he is. “So calm and patient with the horses, and so funny and smart, too! You guys have done an incredible job with him.”
You guys. As in Buck and Eddie. As in, Buck and Eddie as parents. Both of them.
This is fine, Buck thinks, a little hysterically. This is fine, although I’m not his parent, and I never will be, unless I have to watch the other half of my fucking heart die, and pretend I haven’t gone with him, just to raise Chris. As though the price I would have to pay to have Chris as my own wouldn’t leave me a broken mess in the process. As if I can’t make up my mind whether I hate Eddie for the will, or love him all the more for it.
“Thank you,” Is what slips out, instead, like all those years ago on a cool Christmas Eve, surrounded by lights and laughter and the warmth of the little family unit that was the Diaz boys.
The only thing that hasn’t changed since then is that he desperately wishes they could be his.
Rachel grins at him in response, seemingly unaware of the turmoil her words have thrown him into, and then appears to realize that they’re still at work, apologizes and leaves with a cheerful goodbye. Buck only remembers that they have a job to be doing then, getting into position to wheel along the gurney again.
Lucy clears her throat. Buck had almost forgotten she was there.
“I didn’t know you had a kid,” she says casually, like they’re talking about the weather. Buck almost flinches.
“I don’t,” he says, shortly, praying she’ll drop it.
Of course, his life is never that easy, because she continues to press. “You didn’t correct her.” Buck supposes he should be relieved, at least, that she’s not asking about the Eddie of it all. That she’s not asking him, why the hell did you kiss me if you have a partner, dude? As though Eddie is his partner, instead of Taylor, even if it feels unbelievably wrong to call her that.
“It’s complicated,” Buck says and Lucy laughs a little disbelievingly.
“You sure? It sounds like a yes or no question to me.”
“Just drop it, Donato,” Buck snaps, and almost instantly feels bad, but she only shrugs, letting the words roll off her like water in a way Buck can only envy her for being able to do. Thankfully, Hen and Chim are done by then, and all their attention is focused on transporting the patient.
Later, Buck will go home (not home, it’s not his home, he tries to remind himself uselessly) to an Eddie who looks less tired than yesterday, asking him about his day with a smile; and a Christopher who pretends to be annoyed when Buck checks that he’s doing his homework. He’ll stand at the kitchen counter with Eddie and help him chop vegetables and join in with Chris to poke fun at Eddie over dinner, and ignore the texts on his phone from his girlfriend. He'll watch on as Eddie kisses Chris goodnight with a fond smile and then linger in the hallway outside Chris’ room with Eddie, not talking, just comfortable silence as they gaze at each other for a long moment in the dim light. Eddie will tell him to spend the night and he’ll say yes, and he’ll take Eddie’s uncomfortable old couch over his large bed in the loft, comfy but cold, with Taylor in it.
He'll think of you two have an adorable son and you guys have done an incredible job and he’ll let himself pretend, for a moment, that it’s true.
Firstprince and #11 for the winter prompts!!!
(Helloooooo and Happy New Year! Convienent that at least one of these is still timely, lol. This is 11. "Competition to see who can bring the hottest date to the New Year’s party," though I've left the parenthetical spoiler out here and in the fic notes on AO3. Office AU, multiple POV. I hope you enjoy!)
May Your New Years Dreams Come True
Read it on AO3 (T, 3.1k)
Henry ~~~~~
It’s a confluence of unfortunate events that sets the whole thing off.
Henry’s standing in front of the electric kettle in the break room, waiting for his water to boil and minding his own business, when he hears a familiar cadence of footsteps coming down the corridor. After all this time, he still can’t help but tense up, no matter how hard he tries to be something approaching normal around him.
The arrival of one Alex Claremont-Diaz will never fail ruin Henry’s cool.
This time, though, he’s not alone. The nasal pitch of Hunter’s voice carries down the hallway and into the break room, even as Alex’s steps pick up speed in a futile attempt to lose him. Henry stares down at the kettle and wills it to boil faster, or for them to bypass the break room entirely, but luck is not on his side today. Alex strides in, Hunter hot on his heels, and walks immediately over to the coffee pot next to where Henry stands.
“Fox,” Alex says in greeting, and somehow that one syllable manages to be loaded.
“Alex,” Henry returns. He quirks an eyebrow; Alex rolls his eyes in the rough direction of where Hunter is still behind him and makes a gagging face that has Henry pressing his lips together against a laugh.
“… so I told her about the party and of course she wants to come. I mean, who could blame her?” Hunter is saying, the inane babbling finally resolving into words in Henry’s consciousness. “What about you, Alex? Do you have a date for the party yet?”
“Hm?” Alex hums, finally looking away from where he’s been seemingly trying to stare a hole in Henry’s head. He turns toward Hunter and smiles insincerely. “Oh, sure. Definitely. Super hot.”
Henry blinks. He doesn’t know what he expected Alex’s answer to be, but it wasn’t that.
“Oh yeah?” Hunter replies eagerly. “How hot are we talking? Because this girl I’m bringing”—he whistles in a way that makes Henry cringe—“she’s so hot.”
“Yeah, man,” Alex says in that tone of voice that Henry suspects Hunter doesn’t realize is mocking him. “Tall. Blond. Legs for days.” He pauses, his grin sharpening as he leans back against the counter with his coffee. “In fact, I’d wager money my date will by far be the hottest there.”
Hunter scoffs, which honestly Henry doesn’t understand. It’s not like Alex hasn’t pulled in some real lookers to previous years’ parties, much to Henry’s chagrin. “Really? You want to bet?”
Alex shrugs. “Sure.”
“Henry,” Hunter says suddenly, finally—and unfortunately—acknowledging that he’s actually been standing there the whole time. “You want in on this?”
“Yeah, Fox,” Alex jumps in unexpectedly, a challenging glint in his eye and an aggressive smirk on his lips. “What about your date? You want in on this?”
No, Henry most certainly does not. He doesn’t know why it didn’t occur to him that this would be an issue. The office’s party is legendary. Instead of throwing a holiday do, they go all out on New Year’s Eve: black tie, caviar, a view of the ball drop in Times Square, and of course, endless, overflowing champagne. Henry always attends alone—a fact which he knows Alex is well familiar with—because although he’s out to a significant portion of company’s employees, he’s never really felt a need to let the rest of them know anything about his personal life. It doesn’t help that none of his prospective dates never seem have the potential to match up to the one he’s always wanted to be there with. To the one person he’s longed to kiss at midnight ever since he started working here.
The same person who happens to be currently trying to set him afire with his mind from across his coffee cup. Who has to make everything into a competition. How Henry ended up regrettably and hopelessly in love with this man, he’ll never understand.
Still, there’s no explaining why his mouth opens and he says, “Why not? Fifty quid.”
“You talk like an alien,” Alex says immediately, rolling his eyes. “But you’re on. In dollars, none of that make-believe money y’all have.”
“Nice,” Hunter adds, unfortunately reminding both of them that he’s still in the room. “Let the best man win.”
~~~~~ Nora ~~~~~
“You gotta help me,” Alex says in a rush, closing the supply closet door behind him when he finds her.
Nora sighs and sets down the three reams of paper that she’d come in there to get, taking in the disarray of his curls, as if he’s been running his hands through them, and the slightly wild look in his eyes. “What did you do now?”
“It was just supposed to be a stupid joke,” he whines, like that’s should mean anything to her. “And somehow now it’s a whole thing. I think half the office is in on it.”
“Ohhhhh. The bet,” she surmises, letting a smirk tip onto her lips. It had somehow become all anyone in the office wanted to talk about in the last two days. “Yeah, not one of your best ideas. On the bright side, though, the pot is going to be huge. Maybe I can get that new GPU I’ve been wanting.”
“Hold on, you’re not telling me that you bought in too?” Nora nods, and Alex groans. “Jesus, Nora. You can’t be serious.”
“Why not? Your sister is a stone-cold fox, and in an evening gown?” She gives a low whistle. “It’s in the bag.”
“Don’t.”
Nora looks at him, then, really looks at him, for the first time since he cornered her. He’s twitchy, worried like she hasn’t seen him in a while. Whatever issue he’s currently having with Henry—because it’s always something to do with Henry—it’s weighing on him more than usual. “Wait, do you even have a date?”
“Of course I do,” he scoffs.
“Oh yeah?” she says, raising her eyebrows. As far as she knows, Alex hasn’t been out with anyone who wasn’t her or June in ages. He’s certainly not seeing anyone. “Who is she? Do I know her?”
Alex fidgets some more, chewing on the corner of his thumb. A tell. 100% chance he’s lying about something; she gives it a 45% likelihood he doesn’t have a date yet, 34% he does but she’s not actually as hot as he’s making her out to be, 21% that something else is going on that she doesn’t have the data for yet.
“Yes. No. It’s not important,” he mumbles as he tries to wave her off. “I have a date.”
She bumps the ‘something else’ percentage to 39%, maybe higher, and considers trying to ply him with bourbon sometime in the next few nights. “So it’s about Henry’s date, then,” she guesses.
At that, he looks momentarily stricken before he reigns it back in. “Why would you say that?” he demands. She definitely hit a nerve.
“Henry’s never brought a date to these things before, but he’s bringing one this year. You’re being weird about something. Ergo, it follows that Henry’s date has something to do with it.”
“You’re insane. That’s not— it has nothing to do with that.” He straightens, and sniffs dismissively. “I just think that ranking peoples’ dates’ hotness is reductive.”
“Right,” Nora laughs. “Now you do. You’re just worried you’re going to lose.”
“Definitely not,” he huffs. “Who’s even going to be the judge?”
“Oh, that’s already settled. Zahra said she would do it.” It’s the perfect solution, really. If anyone could have the authority to judge and not have anyone A) take it personally, or B) argue, it would be Zahra.
Alex drags a hand over his face, groaning miserably. “Now Zahra’s involved too?!”
~~~~~ Pez ~~~~~
Pez is pretty sure Henry is avoiding him.
It’s not an easy thing to do, given that they work in the same division and also spend a large amount of their free time together, but somehow Henry is managing it. He slips away whenever he hears Pez coming, and when Pez began sneaking up on him, he started wriggling away with some made up excuse. Pez knows very well why: the bet. The one that he couldn’t believe Henry actually agreed to when he’d heard about it secondhand. Of course, all sense seems to fly out the window whenever they’re dealing with darling Alex, so perhaps he shouldn’t be surprised.
Eventually, after an entire two days of fruitless pursuit, Pez simply shows up at his apartment unannounced and unwilling to take no for an answer. Henry surprisingly buzzes him in without question and answers the door straight away, and the way that his eyes go wide in surprise and his face actually falls—wow, rude—when he sees it’s Pez on his doorstep confirms he was expecting someone else.
“Pez,” he says weakly, trying to recover his composure and largely failing. “What are you doing here?”
“Can’t a guy drop by to visit his best friend?” Pez replies, pushing his way in before Henry can close the door on him. He holds out the bottle of brandy he brought as reinforcements. “We need to chat, my dear.”
Henry deflates. His hair has been styled and he’s wearing the blue sweater that Pez instructed him to deploy when he really wants to make a guy swoon over his eyes; definitely a date. “Look, I understand what you’re trying to do, and I appreciate it, I do, but…” He hesitates. “I’m expecting company tonight.”
“Company,” Pez echoes, arching one elegant eyebrow at him. “Please tell me this company is the mysterious scorching-hot date that you’ve somehow managed to acquire for the New Year’s party.”
“No. Yes.” Henry sighs. “He’s going to be here any minute, Pez.”
“How convenient. I’m dying to meet him.”
“Pez—”
“Hazza, I don’t know why you’re hiding him from me,” Pez interrupts before he can finish his protest. “This is a good thing, as far as I’m concerned. I love you, but if I have to spend another New Year’s Eve watching you sulk next to the croquembouche while Alex kisses someone else at midnight I might lose my bloody mind.”
“I can promise you that’s not going to happen this year,” Henry says. He actually seems to mean it, even.
“Good. Well I’m glad you found someone, even if you won’t let me meet him yet for reasons that are entirely unfathomable to me,” Pez says, though he’s not at all satisfied. Then he adds, as an afterthought, “Especially after having to listen to Alex go on about how ridiculously attractive his date is. I rather think he must be overselling it, personally.”
He does not miss the way that Henry goes slightly pink at that and looks away, unwilling to meet his eye, so perhaps things aren’t as rosy as they might appear. If Henry’s let himself get pulled into a silly competition because he thinks it’s going to get Alex to finally notice him, Pez is afraid he’s going to be sorely mistaken. He just hopes the poor sod that Henry’s dragging to this thing isn’t expecting too much.
“I’ll tell you soon,” Henry promises, looking slightly pained. “It’s only… everything is very new still. I don’t want to jinx anything.”
That’s— well, unexpected. Pez doesn’t know how Henry could have found some chap that he could be this interested in without him knowing about it, but apparently just such a thing seems to have happened. As his eyebrows climb ceiling-ward, he asks, “It’s serious then?”
Henry manages a small smile. “I hope so.”
~~~~~ Alex ~~~~~
Alex tugs at the front of his red velvet tux jacket even though it’s perfectly straight already, unable to stop fidgeting as anticipation thrums through his veins. The main doors to the venue keep opening and admitting not the person he’s waiting for, and he can’t resist turning to look even though he knows it’s not quite time. This was his plan, so there’s no one to blame but himself. Make an entrance, he’d said. It’ll be hilarious. Along with, Yes, I’m sure.
He’d had to say that last one a lot. This whole thing is kind of a big statement, and he could have just… not made it. His coworkers aren’t entitled to his personal life. He can’t express how much he wants this, though. He doesn’t want to hide, not when this feels like such a important part of himself. Ok, he probably could have made a smaller statement, but in his defense he never expected it blow up like this. In the end, he decided to lean into the absurdity of it all. Nora will probably call him a drama queen and June will roll her eyes, but the looks on their faces will be worth it.
Somehow he’s gotten stuck standing next to Hunter, which is terrible but also kind of appropriate given how this has started. The other man has barely left Alex alone since he arrived sans date, like he won’t be satisfied until he sees whoever is meeting Alex at the party. For his part, Alex has to admit that Hunter’s date turned out to be a very attractive woman, whom he has no idea how Hunter of all people pulled.
Still not hotter than his date.
“This mystery date of yours going to show up any time soon?” Nora teases, appearing at his side with June in tow and, inexplicably, seemingly Pez in tow as well. Alex is not sure he wants to know what’s going on there.
“Yeah. Any minute now,” Alex answers with more confidence than he feels.
“I can’t believe Hazza’s not here yet,” Pez mutters, stretching up on his toes to look around, as if Henry wouldn’t be obvious. He’s taller than most of the office, save Shaan.
Alex’s phone buzzes in his pocket, and he doesn’t have to check it to know what it says. A few moments later, the venue doors open again, and this time when Alex inevitably turns to look he sees Henry walking in wearing an impeccably tailored classic black tux.
“There,” Alex says, pointing across the room.
“Huh? Where?” Hunter asks as he cranes to look. “Is she behind Henry?”
“Not exactly.”
“I don’t see anyone new, Alex, are you sure—”
Alex doesn’t hear the rest, or anything that anyone else around him says, because Henry’s confidently striding across the room toward him with a smile slowly curling onto his lips, and nothing else in the world matters anymore. Henry barely comes to a stop in front of him before Alex is tugging him down into a kiss, because standing in any proximity with Henry and not kissing him is a crime (sometimes, work days are torture). Henry’s lips move softly against his as his hand comes to rest on the narrow part of Alex’s waist, and Alex simply lets himself get lost in it for an unknown amount of time before he finally pulls back.
“Hey baby,” he says, grinning like an absolute fool. “Took you long enough. Any later and you might have missed the judging.”
“I arrived precisely when you told me to, you absolute demon,” Henry retorts affectionately. “In any case, I’m pretty sure we’ve disqualified ourselves, love.”
“Ask me if I care,” Alex murmurs against his lips, then kisses him soundly again before he can answer.
They spend most of the night fielding questions, unsurprisingly; more than once they have to engineer an actual escape from the collective clutches of Pez, Nora, and June, stealing off into a secluded corridor to get lost in each other’s arms and mouths for as long as they can manage before they get dragged back to the party. But even when they have to behave themselves and actually socialize with their coworkers, the novelty of being there together, of being able to slip his arm around Henry’s waist and press close against his side, of not having to constantly moderate looks on his face, of being able to be himself, is intoxicating. Alex feels drunk on it even moreso than the champagne, though the champagne is definitely helping.
A little before midnight, their boss commandeers the microphone from the DJ and calls for everyone’s attention. “All right you miscreants,” Zahra announces, and she must be fairly drunk herself because she’s nearly laughing as she speaks. “I’ve been informed that it’s my responsibility to judge—Jesus fucking Christ—hottest date, because you all are apparently fourteen years old.” Her eyes sweep the assembled crowd and find Alex and Henry, who remain practically glued together. “I’ve also been recently informed that two of the initiators of this farce were operating with insider information, so really, I should call the whole thing off.”
“Boo!” Alex calls out, which draws scattered laughter from the others and a reluctantly fond eye roll from Zahra.
“I should, but I won’t,” she continues.
“So who won?” someone calls out.
“Oh, that’s easy,” Zahra says, her smile going wickedly smug. “Me.”
Then she takes a few purposeful strides to the right, grabs Shaan by the arm, and drags him into a lingering kiss. The crowd immediately bursts into surprised chatter and cheers, and someone—look, it might have been Alex, but he’s not owning up to it—wolf-whistles, which finally makes her break off and glare at all of them.
“All right, all right, enough of that!” she shouts over them. “Go drink your fucking champagne and get ready for the new year. The ball drops in two minutes!”
One minute and forty-five seconds later, Henry has Alex wrapped up in his arms and is staring down at him with a look that’s so fucking smitten that Alex might actually melt. They’re standing in front of the picture windows that look out at the ball in Times Square, its lights glittering as it prepares to make its descent, but despite the frankly epic view, they only have eyes for each other.
“Sorry I cost you fifty quid,” Henry says, sounding not very sorry at all.
“It’s dollars, you alien,” Alex huffs as he grins up at him. Henry is so achingly beautiful, the angles of his face lit up by the lights of the city, and Alex knows he was right about the bet no matter what. He shrugs, trying and probably failing to look nonchalant. “S’ok. I won anyway.”
Henry laughs. “That was terribly sentimental of you, love.”
“I know,” Alex groans, pretending to gag. “Don’t tell anyone I said that.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Around them, the countdown starts; neither of them even have a glass of champagne, though that’s probably for the best at this point. “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time,” Henry murmurs, just audible over the shouted counting of their coworkers.
“Do what?”
And then, at midnight, Henry kisses him.

35. Sharing traditions for the Christmasy prompt? :D
The Diaz family had no shortage of Christmas traditions. Eddie knew this, and he loved it – Christmas had always been the one time of year where it had felt like his failings as a son, as a father, had been swept aside, caught up in the excitement that was the weeks of build up to Christmas.
His mom’s family had long-since kept up the Swedish tradition of glögg, drinking it a million miles from their heritage in snowy Sweden, but the drink tasting as sweet, even if it was being drunk in Texas. His father would always buy a poinsettia, for their kitchen table, and they did Christmas Eve Mass at the Spanish church in El Paso his dad favoured, and they did Christmas Day mass at the church his mom used to go to as a child, the priest an elderly Irish man who’d somehow never lost his thick accent, even after decades in Texas. They’d set aside a Sunday evening, in the lead up to Christmas, and they’d bake cookies, as a family, cheery Christmas tunes playing in the background.
The point was – Eddie had lots of family Christmas traditions, and he’d created his own with Shannon, and now Christopher. Visiting Santa Claus at the Grove, for one – because Eddie would never forget the way Christopher’s eyes lit up like saucers, when he’d seen the enormous display of lights – and every Sunday, in December, they’d make hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie. Buck was a part of that one – mainly because he had an astounding lack of knowledge when it came to classic Christmas cinema, and when Eddie discovered his new friend hadn’t ever seen The Santa Claus, that first year in LA, he’d taken it upon himself to educate Buck on all the Christmas movies of his own childhood.
But Buck didn’t have Christmas traditions. That had been a startling discovery. Eddie had been explaining what was actually in glögg, and why he was so excited to make it for his LA family, that night, and Buck’s brow had furrowed – not in confusion, no, but in sadness, as though he’d never experienced those kinds of ritualistic traditions during the holiday season.
(“I never liked Christmas, all that much,” Buck admitted. “It was always a really sad time, in our house – and I never understood why. Maddie tried – really, she did. She’d always buy me this box of candy canes, with her pocket money, and she’d hide one somewhere in the house every day, leading up to Christmas, and my challenge was to find them. But we – we never had Christmas traditions. Not like the ones your family has.”
Not for the first time, Eddie’s heart ached in his chest for the childhood Buck hadn’t experienced, and the childhood Maddie had given up in pursuit of trying to be a parent for her kid brother. “I’m sorry, Buck.”
“It’s okay,” Buck shrugged, and Eddie knew it really, really wasn’t – because it was written all over his boyfriend’s face. “I can just borrow some of yours.”)
That had been the day Eddie had started planning his surprise.
“Mm, something smells good, Diaz boys,” Buck called, the front door clicking shut as he arrived back. Maddie had taken him out shopping, that morning, and had kept him out a little longer than planned, at Eddie’s request.
“It’s mulled cider!” Christopher said, already giddy with glee – and too much sugar. Future Eddie was going to regret that one.
“It’s mulled apple juice,” Eddie corrected, winking at his boyfriend as Buck noticed the bottle of rum not-so-subtly stashed behind a bag of granola that had taken up temporary residence on their kitchen counter. If you couldn’t spike your own Christmas punch a few weeks before Christmas, when could you?
“Smells good,” Buck reiterated, peering into the pot simmering on the stove. “No hot chocolate today?”
“I thought we could do something new,” Eddie explained, gesturing to the kitchen table that was heaving with crafting supplies. “A new tradition – for all of us.”
Buck looked confused, looking between Eddie and Christopher, doing a great impression of a nodding dog.
“We’re going to make a calendar, for the 12 Days of Christmas!” Christopher explained, tugging on Buck’s hand. “Except we’re all going to write down something that we can do together,” he said, looking at Eddie for confirmation. “It can – it can be anything! Like, making cookies.”
“Or going ice-skating,” Eddie teased, wrapping an arm around Buck’s waist. “Anything. The only rule is that it’s got to be something that the three of us can do together.”
“That – that is a really good idea,” Buck breathed, and Eddie could hear the tremor in his voice, as he spoke.
“Chris, could you grab the speaker from the living room? We need some Christmas music,” Eddie asked, his son nodding and scuttling out of the kitchen like a kid on a mission. “You okay?” he prodded, twisting Buck so they were nose to nose.
“You didn’t have to do this,” Buck mumbled, looking overwhelmed.
“I know,” Eddie shrugged.
“I meant it, when I said I was happy to share in your traditions,” Buck continued, and God – Eddie wanted to fight every single person who ever made Buck feel as though he wasn’t important enough to bend over backwards for, to make new traditions for.
“I know,” Eddie repeated. “But I wanted us to have a new one – for the three of us. A tradition that we started for our family – you, me, Christopher, and whoever else might come along one day,” he said, smiling softly as he allowed himself to indulge in the image of pitter-pattering feet and tiny giggles.
“I love you,” Buck breathed, and even now, almost a year into their relationship, it was still the very best promise Buck had ever made him.
Eddie pressed a kiss to the corner of Buck’s mouth, grinning. “I love you,” he said. “Now, let’s spike our apple juices before Christopher comes back.”
