stg, being an enjoyer of jane twdg is like being forced into an expert-level course on the way misogyny manifests in video game spaces.
god forbid a woman be complex or difficult or provably mischaracterized (see tags) at the end of her arc to service the culmination of a man’s storyline.
#“kenny was harrowed by loss in his family” so was jane. that is part of them literally being foils.#“kenny teaches clem more!” literally untrue a lot of clem’s combat style is rooted in what jane taught her (targeting the knees & basically#everything clem knows about knife combat- jane is also mirrored with lee in this sense as like was previously stated knife combat later goe#on to become a major element of how clem fights only outweighed by her use of firearms)#she teaches clem the gut trick & we see the innovative thinking that comes with being more independent & proactive influence the way clem#handles sticky situations & deals with feeling disempowered. like this is going to sound odd but the fact that her behaviour mirrors jane#at her best (even though her relationship with aj is more maternal the way she approaches him much more as an equal & capable of holding#agency over his own life is much more reminiscent of the way she was treated by jane & luke positively + the rest of the adults negatively#than how kenny or even lee treated clem [though lee did start to view her this way after the train] + her people reading skill.) & at her#worst (isolating herself + becoming cold + the fact she is [based on player choice] willing to leave aj behind for both their survival +#struggling with her need for community vs her sense of distrust in their lasting stability + her tendency to be unfeelingly pragmatic to a#fault except when it comes to aj + the fact that clem- at her worst is self-serving & somewhat uncaring in comparison to kenny’s possessive#hot-headedness etc) indicates that on some level- regardless of a player’s second season ending- clem considered jane to be a better#behavioural role model- this isn’t to say kenny was unimpactful but rather that his impact was different- where behaviourally we see elemen#of lee luke jane & even carver in clem’s later behaviour kenny’s impact is more so that of a cautionary tale- somebody clem cared for who#she witnessed lose himself entirely to his worst character flaws due to an inability to cope with the world she now lives in- something he#even admits to her in multiple endings iirc. kenny becomes the fate clem must strive against at all costs.#similar can be said of the ending where you go with jane regarding how it analogies clem’s fears & low self worth as a result of being#unable to maintain what she had with aj (in a manner that mirrors jane’s story in that she’s choosing to leave behind a living relative due#to no longer being able to be what they need- again depending on player choice*)#*my exact memory of the third season is hazier tbh. iirc it is dependent on player choice whether she is complacent with the decision to#make her leave the new frontier.#like the way the ending was handled was sloppy & jane was mischaracterized as a result of being shoved into a conflict that we know for#certain was not intended to go to her. calm down & just enjoy your man without being weird & misogynistic dear god.)#(also if you like clem & jane you will like holly robinson & selina kyle dc)#twdg jane#jane twdg#twdg

While everyone else thinks Workforce's wasted potential is that Chakotay and Janeway didn't have a brainwashed what-could-have-been-romance *I* know that Workforce's wasted potential is that Tuvok wasn't there as a much more vocal irritant/unintentional cockblock to Jaffen. Who hates him the whole time but is trying to act like he doesn't because Janeway REALLY likes him.

you know. i feel like chara is obviously a very complex character and has a lot of problems and a lot going on, but i always thought that the fact that the whole wanting to kill people from their village was like. not that bad. in and of itself.
#just considering the fact too that the anniversary newsletter this year more or less fully confirmed what was suspected for many years#like. it is not GOOD but i understand it#i think i may be projecting here but at the same time when you are a kid in a situation like that#it is not just the fact that someone is hurting you in some way#a lot of the time it becomes easy to extend that to the whole world. other people can hurt you in smaller ways that feel so much bigger when#things are already bad. adults who should have helped you fail you by not doing so#and there can be a lot of reasons to that. most of the time people genuinely do not know#but from a kid’s perspective it can feel like the whole world is against you#so given the power that they had and the motivation now that they thought they would be helping by collecting the souls and that maybe that#was even what was expected of them (not actually but how they might have felt)#i don’t know. not their worst crime. i get it#chara undertale they could never make me hate you. i would not have been so kind#ALSO i think with a lot of people oversimplifying asriel as well they miss the fact that in hindsight he says he understands that maybe#fighting back would have been better and that there are a lot of dangerous people out there

tbh i wish aup had more reps for characters who achieve greatness purely through hard work and effort. the emphasis on genius/being special is mayhaps way too much to the point that it feels kinda damn depressing for those who aint born as one.
#rant#why is everyone in aup a genius#the four musketeers have the potential for this but its unfortunate that we dont get to see it fleshed out#even aiden ended up relying on his antimagic talents in the long run#ngl owens would have been more impressive to me if they r hardworkers instead of born special#it would have made the fact that ludger took them in more interesting#and mayhaps even highlighted his qualifications as a teacher#(lowkey im still salty that we dont get the full arc of ludger teaching magic to arpa lmfao)#(owens growth feels much less impactful to me bc they are already so special that them becoming that OP is nothing surprising)#plus i thought fighting against the unfairness of the world was a theme for owens#even if one managed to close the gap between the wealthy and the poor or noble and non-noble#the division between a genius and a non-genius itself would only create another kind of classism#how r they gonna challenge it as the members of the one and only special talent club?#violetta is the closest to be the hardworking one but even then her achievement still has a hand of a devil in it#also while surna had to learn everything from scratch he had been around for hundreds if not thousands of years#not to diminish his achievements but that hardly counts cuz it still puts him next to the special treatment category#not to mention being able to learn something simply by observing it is also a kind of cheat code itself...

Welp I had max dragon flowers on Altina for two minutes.
#Dragon flower economy is so bad. Even worse when I decided to build Askr trio lmao#It’s tough to be free to play out here#I had Alfonse and Sharena maxed. I was halfway through Anna.#I have been slowly building it for… a very long time :)#I seriously can’t recall the last time I wasn’t dumping all of them into Askr trio + Brave Veronica#Fun facts; Altina is my favorite unit in the game. I adore how she plays. I love a unit with a gimmick#So much so that I slapped Alfonse with brazen Atk/Def for similar health gimmick and haven’t changed it since#God I miss when that was broken as shit. I genuinely used him in Aether raids for a while.#With summoner support he has a monster of a health bar that would help him to survive getting his ass beat. Then he would become A Menace.#Honestly building Askr trio is how I have fun with this game#Not because my builds are good. But because it makes clearing story mode a fucking NIGHTMARE#NO RESISTANCE ON THESE UNITS LETS GOOOOOO#Clearing boards in PVE with these guys is the real hard mode of this game and I live for it.#Wanna know true hell? All four units must survive.#Exaggerating but it is fun. Makes the fights against gods a bit more visceral. Hel’s final map was *rough* with these guys.#I should document some of my Askr trio runs. Maybe show off my silly builds too.

I know Mai is sort of like the typical "kind of a bitch" female character that often has a lot of sexist tropes playing around, but for some reason... I actually like her?
#I don't know#She's rude and can be ruthless#but she actually seems kind of. not truly bad? Like a teen after all idk#A bit like how Todo seemed like the burly rude giant bully kind of guy but is sort of... sweet?#And though it surprised me at first it makes sense to me now that Todo and Mai seem to be... close?#They're The Mean Ones but actually they don't seem too bad idk#Kamo and Mechamaru gave me quite a more ruthless in a bad way feeling in that one Kyoto reunion they had with the disgusting old man#But it's also true they're Jujutsu teen sorcerers in that Jujutsu shitty society and their principal is asking this of them as is law#Megumi had that kind of reaction to Itadori as well at first because that's what the law says until he chose for himself otherwise#And the way it was presented with Gojo appearing later and asking about his 'personal feelings' and all that#as well as what we saw about the Tokyo school later on it seems like Gojo is enhancing#this 'think for yourself beyond the established rules' mindset to his students as opposed to the Kyoto school and that principal#I guessed right two months ago when I said I imagined the second school would be in Kyoto and that they'd be more traditional#Anyway... I can't truly blame the Kyoto kids either. I hope they get more critical about the situation#And I hope they beat the old man up in group with large sticks#All together united by how disgusting that guy is and how much he deserves to go down ✨💕#Utahime dear... Thinks oh so hard abt the spiraling upwards clan founders, especially the birchclan founders. Silly lil kitties who's pasts are drenched in blood with the primary regret of not drawing it sooner
#rat rambles#oc posting#warriors posting#spiraling upwards#long story short they had a shitty awful terrible leader who sucked absolutely ass and they tore him to shreds#I mean that literally they pinned him onto the mountain side and slashed and mauled the shit out of him so hard that his lives evaporated#and several of the cats involved in that scene are sill alive and major parts of the story and I love them#oh also the cat that pinned him through a stab through the throat was his own daughter btw everyone hated his ass so much#and for good reason get his ass#alas in the main story I dont rly get to go too deep into how he harmed everyone involved mostly just three main ones#aka bristlestar because shes murtlepaw's ghost mom dawncrackle because hes also haunting murtle and gullspot because shes bristle's kit#so basically all the flashbacks we get involve those three in some form or another#honeystar was also there and involved but Im not currently planning on having her rly talk abt that#most of her more modern angst is the fact that she was forced into leadership against her will#and shes been alive long enough that shes been leading birchclan far longer than she ever lived in her old clan#but she did go through a lot of shit before birchclan was founded and it definitely shaped her a lot#she used to be a very determined and high spirited lil kitty cat who tried to be optimistic#but her family began to slowly be picked off one by one by both the old leader and the one whod later get evicerated#some of the older cats around her hoped it make her back down from her revelutionary ideas but she noticed that and it backfired on them#instead of being worn down to submission she became absolutely Furious and began to lash out more and become more demanding#it got to the point that she really only had two friends in the entire clan and one of them was her aunt whod later also die after coming#out abt having witnessed the leader killing his own kits#that was the final fucking straw for her and she was fully on board when bristle and dawn started looking for cats to join their rebellion#she did get rly frustrated with them as they waited patiently for the right moment but her remaining bestie kept her from going apeshit#so once the big fight finally broke out she was more than eager to join the hoard of cats chasing the bastard upwards#now unlike some of the other cats involved this legitimately actually made her feel a lot better for a while#for the first time in ages she finally felt like she could be optimistic abt smth again and was excited abt the idea of leaving this place#she had lost so much in this damn place since she was an apprentice and just wanted to finally be able to rest easy#but once they got to their new territory and set up camp things went south real fast as a flood fucked everything up#and after losing the only cat she had left in her life and losing her tail and being made deputy on top of that she deteriorated quickly

Voyager should have had an episode where the command trio beat the absolute hell out of each other while blaming each other for being stuck in the delta quadrant as the fever pitch of a rising tension that was building throughout the episode. Like, they're absolutely being pushed to do it by some outside force. Maybe it's a telepathic being - maybe it's that they're stuck in some arena or an alien court or a time loop only the three of them are aware of - no matter the specifics, the sentiment behind their words has to be true and it has to be something they've been keeping back for months, maybe years. That fear and hatred and blame that doesn't really have an actual target because it's not actually rational but 'who's to blame' doesn't have to be capital T true to feel true. If Chakotay hadn't been in the badlands, If Janeway hadn't made that choice, If Tuvok hadn't supported it... "You trapped us here. It's your fault. If you hadn't-! If you hadn't-! If you hadn't-!" are just echoes of "I trapped us here. It's my fault. If I hadn't-! If I hadn't-! If I hadn't-!" Because at the end of the day more than being angry or hateful they're despairing in their own ways. Episode probably has a somber end - they beat whatever it was and it's a victory! They won by working together even after they beat each other half to death! But after the celebration we see them alone in their quarters...silent. Gazing out at the stars, into a candle's flame, at that same family picture before turning away. Because even though they won they're still there in the delta quadrant. Is that really victory?

A) Does anyone know if there was ever an in story reason given for why Di Feisheng doesn't kill women?
B) I vaguely recall seeing/hearing that Di Feisheng was also poisoned in the battle 10 years back but I can't recall where or when I did, can anyone point me in that direction?
C) I cannot for the life of me remember if we were given any information at all about the third of the Three Kings. Did I just completely blank on this or did they really give us nothing?
#mysterious lotus casebook#di feisheng#I'm like 90% sure the meta reason for A is roughly 'we need Jiao Liqiao to survive this action he would definitely have killed her for'#and honestly anything along the lines of 'he thinks women are weak' doesn't really square against the fact that he apparently had 12 women#of enough recognized and respected rank in Jinyuan that jlq decided she hated them personally for his apparent regard of them#we also see a lot of women fighters among Jinyuan ranks in the first flashback so any sort of misogyny angle doesn't really make sense?#and to be frank if dfs imposed any binary division on the population I'm pretty sure the categories would be 'fighter' and 'non fighter'#like. he's clearly aware of gender but I don't ever get the sense that it's much of a factor in how he evaluates people?#and B seems like truth because it's pretty clear that both dfs and lxy were supposed to die/vanish in that fight#sgd's entire takeover plan kinda hinged on both of them being removed from the picture and how else was he going to make sure it happened?#and given the way we see dfs heal in the show him being poisoned is also the only thing that explains why it took him 10 years to recover#he bounces back from injury absurdly fast he shoulda been out of that cave in like a month tops unless something was interfering
