the beauty of ck is that kreese wants daniel dead, but he doesnt want johnny dead because he likes the idea of killing him more than the act of following through and that terry wants johnny dead because he got everything terry didnt but he doesn't want daniel dead because he likes the idea of tormenting him too much. and then daniel would kill either shitty old bitch in a heartbeat but johnny has moments where he isnt sure if he wants kreese dead or not. he likes the idea of being free more than the concept of the actual act that will bring him freedom. do you get it.

Rouxls is Hiding Something Big: A Deltarune Theory
FORENOTE- For some needed context, it may help reading my previous Deltarune theory here for important details that I will cover in this post. (My previous theory provides notable evidence on why Gaster is indeed the “Knight” figure talked about by multiple characters in Deltarune.)
Now, this is going to sound crazy. But after much time of poring over and analyzing Deltarune, I have come to a conclusion. One that I’ve been convinced of for awhile now. Something that’s been lying right under all of our noses without many of us even realizing it. We have all been bamboozled. Hoodwinked. Tricked. Why, you may ask?
Because the comically stupid and inept Duke of Puzzles is actually... not an idiot. No, he’s the complete opposite. He is a downright mastermind.
As collective players, we are all falling into the same trap once again. Putting faith into a character’s preconceived personality !
When their true personality turns out the complete opposite of what we expected...
It is here, my evidence for this claim begins—and we delve into the true identity of Rouxls Kaard. Buckle up everyone, cause this one’s gonna be a fun ride. 👀
So, to spill the beans up front, and get it over with. I believe Rouxls Kaards identity... is none other than W.D. Gaster in disguise.
Now. I didn’t immediately become invested in this theory—I was skeptical at first like everyone else. But, once I began examining Deltarune and all of its characters a bit closer...things weren’t exactly adding up about the Duke of Puzzles.
Point #1: Anagrams
I initially began to become suspicious of Rouxls Kaard because of his odd name. Sure, it is a play on the words of the term, “Rules card”. But it is spelt in such a peculiar way. If it were just simply a play on words, I think that there would be a much better way of going about spelling it rather than just jumbling a bunch of random letters together. There is a very intriguing reddit post found here that goes more into depth about his name that ties well into my theory. The thing that stood out to me in particular, is that Rouxls’s name is actually also an anagram for “A Dark Soul RX”, (with the left over RX typically being used in terms relating to doctors/medicine.) Not only is Gaster a Doctor, but he’s also always associated with darkness and the research of souls. Toby loves his anagrams—so I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if this was intentional. But it doesn’t end there.
I’ve noticed that Toby Fox has a tendency to tease certain things about his games through merch. And wouldn’t you know it—he has in fact, a particular item on fangamer of a “dark heart.” One which description describes the Angel’s Prophecy. Hm...
But let’s back on track onto my second observation, shall we?
Point #2: The Physical Resemblance to Gaster
Now, there seems to be some interesting foreshadowing related to inverted colors in Deltarune. Before Ralsei takes his hat off, he appears black. But once he takes his hat off, voila, his colors are inverted, and he is revealed to actually be a white goat highly resembling Asriel.
In addition, the entire Dark World is literally just. An inverted version of a normal world.
The Dark World could have hypothetically been the created world/experiment that Gaster had fallen into in the first place. After all, his experiment had to do with “darkness”, and “negative” photons--AKA the Dark Fountains, and the negatively/inverted landscapes of the Dark World.
And how does Rouxls Kaard appear inverted anyways? Well, he looks like THIS.
He even has the strange dangling lip thing—which another character said to directly resemble Gaster, Seam, has as well:
In addition, if you look at Rouxls’ text-box profile very closely, his eye colors are actually mismatched which is a rather interesting detail!
Point # 3: His Accent is Extremely put on.
I think anybody that has read any sort of Shakespearean/Old English writing, can instantly realize that Rouxls is as bad as imitating an Old English accent as a high-schooler reading Hamlet for the first time. Rouxls absolutely butchers it. He practically adds eth, and est at the end of any word he chooses, and calls the job done. What is even more interesting though, is when he gets nervous or panicked, he drops the act all together and talks normally.
Point #4: He is Pretending to be Dumb; His Puzzles are Actually Impressive!
I found it intriguing how there are countless puzzle traps in all the forest areas and in the Card Castle prison that were actually very well done. You have to flip the spades, diamonds, hearts, etc to unlock doors, and open secret chests. They require a decent amount of thinking skills, and are actually competent. But who made them?? Oddly enough if you observe one of them in the forest areas, it appears that Rouxls Kaard vandalized one of the puzzles to make it harder for the player to beat it—which further implies that he actually indeed made those puzzles himself. This shows that Rouxls is much more competent than only being able to make a single box shove puzzle that is comically easy. Where else do we see a place full of plenty of rather well made puzzles + traps seen? All throughout the Core in Undertale—a place which Gaster himself created!
Point #5: Rouxls IS Aware the World is a Game--AKA DON’T FORGET TO READ NPC DIALOGUE FOLKS!
I think it is well aware by now that Rouxls likely wants us as the players to underestimate him--and deem him a fool so we wouldn’t bat an eye at what he’s actually up to. But the most biggest give away to this is something that I have surprisingly seen no one mention at all. And oh boy, it is the most damning evidence that Rouxls is no idiot to be trifled with.
To the left of Seam’s shop, there can be found a little group of former puzzle-makers that used to live at Card Castle, until they were fired and replaced with Rouxls Kaard. They are now all out of a job, and are just barely scraping by since the Spade King didn’t give them any severance pay. However, Rouxls Kaard offered them a way to get money--by selling the tutorials he made.
These tutorials go over TP, stats, information about Susie, Ralsei, and Kris. Rouxls Kaard has never once met any of the players yet--and he knows everything about them. He knows about stats. He knows the world is a game.
HOW??
In addition, when you talk to Rouxls in his shop, he calls you three the Heroes of Legend. He is well aware of the Angel’s Prophecy. He knows.
Whenever any character in the world of Undertale & Deltarune knows that the world is a game, it is an instant red-flag. It goes to show that they know much more than they let on. Flowey and Sans are big examples of this in Undertale. Pure hearted, dorky idiots that we trust earlier in the game--but wind up seeing the real side of them later on.
...So why should we treat Rouxls any differently?
Point #6: The “Control Crown”
Something that I immediately thought was kind of weird, was the fact that Rouxls Kaard was able to control the K. Round with a “Control Crown” device. If he is so stupid, how was he able to create a full on mechanical device that can brainwash a life-form into being violent/cause it to triple in size?! That is genius material right there!
But things start to take on a much darker side when you begin to look at the subtext of this realization, which I will get to in a moment...
First of all, Seam claimed these exact words.
The remaining king was the Spade King-- as the King of Hearts, Diamonds, and Clubs are seen to be locked up in the Dungeon. Therefore, the Spade King put the Knight, and his strange son into power. IF it were the Spade King in power, the dialogue box WOULD have said “himself”. Therefore, the Knight, and his strange son were put in place to control the kingdom. And who are they?
Gaster/Rouxls Kaard, and Lancer.
Evidence to back this up:
Lancer calls Rouxls his “Lesser Dad”. And Rouxls calls Lancer, his Strange little darling/son.
The Spade King is not in charge. During his boss-fight, he states that he obeys the word of the Knight.
If you observe more of Lancer’s dialogue in the scene right before the gang enters Card Castle, he states that his dad, (Spade King), recently forced his troops to listen to Lancer instead. Therefore, Lancer is by all respects actually second in command to the Knight.
One of Rouxls main interests is...Lawmaking. Even though he is just supposedly an innocent Duke of Puzzles.
Another one of Rouxls main interests is...Cages, and long strolls in the dungeon...
There are innocent puzzle-makers locked up in the Prison who are terrified--they were arrested for the simple act of making a puzzle without a license. HM, I wonder who could have possibly locked them up? *Wink wink nudge nudge*
And what ties this all together, is perhaps the most obscure, tiniest detail that no one would have likely observed on a first play-through. If you go to the first floor of Card Castle and click the description tablet next to the elevator to the Prison, it claims that the Prison used to just be a Basement Which Just Happened to Have a Lot of Cages. This is backed up by the caged animals in the basement, who say that they miss the “good old days” when they used to be the only ones there in cages, and not a bunch of people behind bars.
In summary, Rouxls is locking up a bunch of innocent people, and playing nice to our faces. He IS the knight. And he is not to be underestimated.
Point #7: Rouxls’ Plan is Already Set in Place
The part where this theory gets a little dark, ties back to my mentioning of the control crown earlier.
If you observe the throne room, it looks like it was recently torn apart in a sort of...conflict.
Why was the Spade King the only king left un-caged to begin with? Why wasn’t he locked up too?
Well...Rouxls Kaard needed someone to put him in charge. But not only that—he needed a scapegoat. Someone to blame. Someone to be “The Bad Guy” for the Heroes to fight.
The Spade King...is actually innocent. He is obeying the Knight, because he is being controlled by a Control Crown. The throne room is in ruins because the Spade King likely fought against this at first, but Rouxls won and successfully put the Spade King under his command. I thought it was strange how the King was so...violent. So irredeemably evil, and even murderous toward his own son Lancer. Yes, it could be argued that this is indeed his true personality, that he is a complete, abusive jerk. But, the whole ending battle of Deltarune chapter 1 feels so...set up in a way? It feels so starkly good vs evil, black and white. Almost like a play.
And oh boy. I think I was onto something.
If you pay close attention to the fight with the Spade King, there is a brief moment at the beginning where he is completely shrouded in shadow. Except. For. His. Crown. It glows stark white in comparison to himself. Like a Chekov’s Gun if you will.
And even more interesting, in the supposed good/pacifist ending, the Spade King is locked up in Prison, the other three kings are still locked up in cages, everyone else is freed, and Rouxls and Lancer now have full control of the kingdom...
Guys. We just played right into Gaster’s hands.
Point #8: Seam Knows that Rouxls is the Knight...
The final observation that genuinely makes me convinced in this theory, is a small detail I noticed at the end of the Pacifist run of Deltarune. Once you have beaten the game, and all of the prisoners are freed, everyone comes to celebrate at Card Castle for your victory. Everyone, except for Seam. That is because Seam knows what the “Strange Knight” did to Jevil. He knows who the Strange Knight is. And he knows what the Knight’s true intentions are.
Point #9: Extra Tidbits I noticed:
When compared to the other denizens of card castle, Rouxls seems out of place. He is the one vaguely humanoid character among a bunch of card and chess themed Darkners.
His puzzle is... too easy.
Rouxls is oddly excited about overthrowing the king/taking his place.
Rouxls is well versed in calligraphy of all things. (Relation to fonts + letters.)
Rouxls “sparkles” have an odd resemblance to the shining save states...?
He makes pop culture references, such as ones seen here and here. Could just be random throwaway jokes, but often times more “aware” characters such as Sans and Papyrus are keen on breaking the fourth wall at times/making references to relate with the audience.
His hair looks strangely out of place. Especially the hairline which is really receded to an unnatural degree on the left side. It’s a wig guys...
He gets a suspiciously new position for no reason at all. In any normal situation, he would be extremely unqualified for it if he were as stupid as he makes himself out to be.
Rouxls is literally wearing armor, akin to a medieval knights.
If you pay close attention, Rouxls has a few very subtle similar speech patterns to Gaster. They both occasionally repeat words twice. They both use the words wonderful and truly a lot, etc.
When Kris and the gang beat the K. Round, Rouxls said it was just to test their abilities.
Rouxls theme has leitmotifs from Gaster’s theme.
End of discussion. Deltarune’s finale is legit going to be Gaster getting his wig snatched.

WERE YOU KIDDING ABOUT THE ASK GAME if not i dont have any specific lyrics in mind but i always thought the lyrics to the mill were so cool and maybe you could get some thoughts out of them? :0
YEAH GOD OKAY LET’S TALK ABOUT THE MILL. LET’S TALK ABOUT UHHHHHHHHH [THROWS DARTBOARD]
this line. this MIGHT go on for a while so i will............ readmore
so the mill feels kind of notably different to the rest of the pafl songs, which tend to be unusually literal for lyric, either straightforward retellings of events (punch it, punk!) or character piece monologues set to plot visuals (strike 3) or both (all of them, but for instance particularly comfort zone, which is just dmitry’s horrible manifesto until it gets hijacked by a death sentence in the second verse.) the mill is a lot more like what we expect from poetry these days, which is to say it’s heavy on imagery, low on clarity, and fucking confusing!
I’ll draw a circle in the sand, drive myself around the bend in a desperate attempt to hold on to your battered hand Rocked to sleep beneath the snow, she is bathed in youthful glow ‘Strong enough to let it go,’ he says, but darling, I don’t know
a lot of the mill is about circles. this is in the name: a mill is something which turns. a waterwheel is a circle, a grindstone is a circle. it’s even in the melody: the chorus is a cyclic, pentatonic four-note riff that keeps going up and down and up its own ladder, chasing its own tail, not really reaching resolution. and then it’s also in, you know, the story:
the meat grinder!!!! everyone’s favorite fucking hellhole!!!! it is only semi-explicitly identified in the song but that’s because it’s a concept from the source material - both tarkovsky’s stalker and roadside picnic feature the meat-grinder, as a location nicknamed thus by stalkers because it is even more fucking deadly than the rest of the zone, all of which is already ridiculously fucking deadly, and if you’ve seen the movie:
it is more or less instantly recognizable in the mill as well. so here we have a circle! here we have a mill (the title has about seventy double meanings but this is certainly one of them,) and as it turns out, this mill at least will absolutely kill you. and horribly too. interestingly though, in roadside picnic (the book) the meat-grinder is not a tunnel, and it’s not round - it’s just a nondescript patch of ground which will wring you out like a dishcloth and kill you extremely dead if you walk into it. on the other hand what we have in the book in terms of circles is the golden ball, which is the equivalent of the movie’s the room, which is, well,
in short both stories ultimately hinge upon the idea that there is a something in the zone which can give you your heart’s desire. anything you want. everything you want. whatever you want. it is infinitely powerful; it is infinitely capable. the catch is that it will only give you what you want. the catch is that giving you what you want is not the same as giving you what you are asking for. the other catch is that in both cases you have to get through the meat-grinder first.
(so, by the way, what the fuck, right? does pafl’s zone have a wish-granting factory? is it also behind the grinder? where were the original trio going when they got themselves fucked up? and did they get there?)
but the point is: the golden ball, the wish-granting factory, is also a circle. it’s just sort of a sphere. it’s a big round fuckin yellow thing. you know, sorta like:
which is THE ONLY TIME yellow is used in occam’s razor not counting the full-colour shots, and it drives me CRAZY, but it is also me going full conspiracy board so let’s not even worry about it. THE POINT IS.
the circle is the death-machine and the wish-machine. neither of these things are really.... very good. the circle, or at least the arc, is also very closely associated with death:
(розовая дуга предрассветного, ‘rose arc of pre-dawn’. if i’ve fucked up that nominative please feel free to stone me to death!)
in the gdoc notes to message lost ferry briefly refers to the dawn as if it were a good thing, the dawn of hope, which is a usage that sort of agrees with the desolate and deathless hope of strike 3′s ‘everything will pass / a day will come,’ but on the other hand it really is very closely associated with dying. nikolai bites it; nikita bites it; sergei and olga left significant chunks of themselves behind. and the thing about ‘this too shall pass’ is that it’s always true, as is ‘everything ends’, but of course that’s ‘cause the thing that ends might be you. and as we know
dawn is an ending. so that seems concerning!
i think the circle, the arc, the bolt falling back to the ground, is not a good thing. i am getting a little conspiracy board here in general but forgive me, i cannot make you a wholesome answer, my wit’s diseased. i think the circle is an enclosed space. it’s an unbroken cycle. it’s the grindstone. it’s the mill. it’s about what pafl’s always been about: about being trapped, about having no chances, about being bordered upon. the circle’s the geometric figure of equidistance from a given point, and you can walk on it forever, and nothing will ever change; you will never get closer, you will never get further away, you will never get out! the sun rises, the sun sets, and you are no closer to anything you wanted. it’s worth noting that anya’s borderline city, the zone-edge port town she complains is trying to crush all her dreams, her mill
is a circle. (a cog in a machine! a grind-wheel! a cage!)
and yura, whose dreams have already been burned out of him, who starts the series already resigned to never getting out of here, calls it ‘this dire deja-vu’, i am specifically resisting putting the accent marks back onto that, which is to say, it’s a repetition that haunts him. it’s going round and round and getting nowhere.
so if we bring it back around: drawing a line in the sand, as the phrase is generally used, means setting a border, means saying this far and no further. often it’s yourself you’re setting the border for. you hit some divide you can’t abide crossing so you say this stops here, it may be too early or too late, but i say it stops here. so logically: drawing a circle in the sand means you’ve locked yourself in completely.
I’ll draw a circle in the sand, drive myself around the bend in a desperate attempt to hold your battered hand
the whole first half of this song, i think, is olga promising to grind herself down in a hundred ways if it means she won’t be left alone. how hard can it be to never let it overflow? she may feel lower than the low, she may wish she could just disappear out here, into the postindustrial rust, but though it gets harder all the time she will keep pretending. she isn’t going to burden sergei, or indeed anyone, with her problems, her fears, her scars. she is hurt, but she’s used to it, she’s gotten used to being haunted long ago. she keeps her bad eye covered. she stays within her circle she has drawn. she keeps going round and round. she will take the smallest sliver of human connection and be happy, she promises she will be happy, she promises she won’t ask for more, she will take just the ‘hello.’
but you knooooow it’s not true. you know it’s grinding her down, that she’ll be milled to nothing pretty soon, and really she knows it too.
i am perhaps seventy percent sure that this line is a reference to the windmills of your mind by michel legrande, which features such lines as
Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
which on one hand seems sort of obscure to be a purposeful reference but on the other hand would be a hell of a coincidence if it wasn’t, wouldn’t it. either way it characterizes circles ambiguously, but definitely unsettlingly. going around in circles is chasing infinity, but what in god’s name would you do with it if you caught it? what are you even hoping to accomplish? and:
the second half of this song is bitterer, sharper - staring down the mouth of the meat-grinder she’s a little more willing to admit to herself that this is going nowhere. she is running out of cages to keep herself in. she is very tired. it’s easy to say why don’t you leave it all behind, it’s easy to say, she’s strong enough to let it go, it’s easy to say, too strong to die. it is a lot harder to actually live.
this is also where the flashbacks admit to us how badly hurt they really were - sergei with his whole side in shreds, she still hides her eye but at least we get to see it’s bleeding. this moral compass is forever misaligned, she says, so there is damage, and it is lasting. and she can’t settle for hello, she can’t live like this, she needs someone by her side. the trouble is whether she can believe she has any hope of getting that
as for who ‘her’ is, or the ‘she’ of ‘she is bathed in youthful glow’, i figure there’s two possibilities: either it’s nadya, who haunts olga too, because nikita’s abandonment of nadya represents exactly what she most fears for herself, or it’s olga’s younger, unbroken, binocular self - both of whom were so young, and so easily hurt, and are now unfindable.
and then there’s this conclusion: ‘the sun will rise, until then / i’ll be waiting for you on the other side.’ which maybe is a sort of hope after all? she’s reached no real conclusions in the zone - she knows there must be hope but she can only barely believe in it - she thinks she is destined to self-destruct. but on the other hand she still has that, a version of sergei’s own ‘a day will come’
you may be hurt, but if you can hold yourself together, you can hope for a dawn someday. an ending. a change. but the trouble’s that there’s more than one kind of ending. and there’s more than one meaning for other side. there are cages, and then there are cages. and you know what else looks like a tunnel, a circle?
staring down the barrel of the gun.
#pafl#parties are for losers#it speaks#ask#in all fairness and in my defence when i made the joke i said i would write not less than one thousand words and by fuck#this has not been less than one thousand words!#jorgyjuice#THANK YOU FOR THE ASK ALSO THIS WAS REALLY FUN#and thank you VERY dearly to anyone who takes the time to read all this; you own my soul now; feel free to collect at any time#metatext

So from the evidence I've collected, I'm very sure my Yeosang came here from another timeline/world theory is correct.
This mostly stems from what we learned from fever part 3 and the deja vu mv but honestly the Yeosang being sus about this had already been foreshadowed in his diary entry of fever part 2. (You'll have to forgive my terrible pictures I have fever part 3 in front of me and I'm too lazy to grab fever part 2 to take better pics)
Basically our setup to this was how at the end of the diary film we switched dimensions into the world of fireworks which I'm fairly sure is called Strictland. Everyone basically says how much the new world feels like their old one but different. The first time I read this I wasn't sure what he meant by "Everyone says this is a new world but somehow, I'm familiar with the scenery here. " line and just took it at face value to be metaphor. But given his repetition of staring down the camera to say "I remember" in Deja Vu, it would make a lot more sense if we take it quite literally too mean I remember this place because I'm from here. There's also a lot of talk about the word world in "wanting to escape the world I've lived in, the world I've been trapped in" as well as "the friends who have willingly invited me to their world". Basically the tldr of the matter is that yeosang escaped from the world of Fireworks into the world of school!Ateez using a chromer that breaks. (IMO we see this exact moment where it breaks at the end of Deja Vu) I say it's likely a chromer since Yeosang shows an at least approximate knowledge of what would happen if he breaks one when he breaks the one the black pirates/halateez gave to hongjoong while the android guardian/white mask holds him hostage.
Yeosang seems to have an approximate knowledge here of what would happen if the Chromer broke, to the point where he doesn't even call it the Chromer when he's thinking about what they know about the object, he specifically calls it a sandglass when any other mention of it has been the Chromer.
There's also the matter of him going out of the way of saying "My friends would not have been all scattered if I had not met them at first". This could very well be talking about where they lost Yeosang and scattered in the hallway but given his wording of at first, I'm putting this as evidence that Yeosang was a newcomer to their world when he got here with the chromer and wasn't a part of their friend group originally.
This theory gets backed up by the ending bit of Not Too Late playing at the end of Deja Vu and if you do a quick look into the lyrics, Not Too Late comes across very much as the beginning of school Ateez where they're all lamenting about being lonely before they all get together to make friends.
Except for two things.
One of which is Wooyoung and Yeosang talking about not being able to get out or escape (Which lines up for Yeosang if he's trapped in this new timeline and adds some interesting implications for Wooyoung I'll get into on a post about him later).
The second of which is Mingi's part. Mingi brings up killing and saving, both things that happen and we see happening during Inception and Thanxx in Fever Part 1 when Hongjoong keeps resetting the timeline using the chromer. There's two implications here: one, Mingi is aware of the timeline resetting (something that I already suspected but is now confirmed) and two, while this might seem like a song from the very beginning of school Ateez, Mingi gives us the added context that it is very much not. (It's also interesting that Yeosang's the one that pulled out Mingi's headphones to make him past attention to the world around him in diary film but like Wooyoung, I'll get into Mingi later in another post)
Since we're assumedly several timeline cycles in, why is this song playing over Yeosang breaking the Chromer? I posit that instead of this being the moment where Yeosang breaks the Chromer while escaping the white Android, this is instead either the moment Yeosang crash lands into school Ateez's world via his own "sandglass" for the first time or this still is that moment, but due to time shenanigans, the Yeosang that escaped just so happens to have escaped back to when he first got to their world making him trapped not only in school Ateez's world, but in an endless cycle of breaking the Chromer to get there in the first place.
We see that Yeosang doesn't go back to their original world and warehouse with them afterwards. Likely because he wasn't a part of their world to begin with to return back with them.
There's other bits of evidence that say that Yeosang with the broken Chromer at the end of Deja Vu is going to school Ateez like the hand that reached for Yeosang had a sleeve similar to their school uniform in Inception.
(Interestingly enough, Yeosang has an emblem that isn't like anyone else's on his uniform and Wooyoung has several emblems. Not necessarily relevant to my current point but food for thought.)
I'm not one of those people that obsess over hands, so idk whose hand that is exactly, but I do have suspicions.
If we're looking at the rings and at how one hand kind of mirrors the other, we can come to the conclusion that it might be the same person. We can go so far as to think that maybe, that hand might even belong to another version of Yeosang. Potentially even the hala!Yeosang that we catch a glimpse of in the diary film giving Hongjoong the chromer. (Side note: I only just realized that it was actually hala!yeosang that gave hongjoong the chromer and not hala!hongjoong like I thought going in. Yeosang really does just have a longstanding history with the Chromer huh.)
Edit: it's now basically been confirmed by the making of deja vu mv that the hand is Hongjoong's so basically depicting the moment Hongjoong reached out for yeosang when the timelines reset. I still standby the rest of my theory. Here's the screenshot I grabbed off the alternate hand angle in the mv making video:
For me personally, a lot of things start to click into place when we consider the possibility that Yeosang is actually from another world. Even his like a bird in a cage stuff makes sense when viewed in this light. He has the freedom of song and dance that he didn't have in Strictland, which banned any form of music or dance thinking it would lead to human emotion, but is stuck in this new world with no other option but to potentially repeat the cycle of when he got here.
#ateez more like aquila shut up#aquila shut up no one cares#ateez theories#ateez#Casper was the one that told me hongjoong got the chromer from himself back when I was first getting into ateez#and I didn't know the members enough when I watched diary film the first time to know any different#like yea hongjoong stole the chromer in the beginning but yeosang gave it to school hongjoong#the stuff I've seen researching into this just further proves my point and doesn't refute it#stuff like the girl in the beginning of diary film saying this is how the story of how we get split into eight pieces again#emphasis on the again part#sorry if this is rambly I'm just excited that I'm pretty sure I'm right since everything points towards it

🩸 and, if you want... 👀 How would you do S4? Anything you really want to happen, characters you'd follow up with?
fav headcanon
after the fall, hannibal is so besotted and in love with will that he does anything he asks/gives him whatever he wants. this is kind of a constant in all of my post-canon fics so yeah i'd say its my fav, but also i think it's pretty grounded in what the show already gives us. i mean, he put himself in prison for him and stripped his life down to i will either die for him (he doesn't come for me) or i will live for him (he does come for me). he pays you a visit or he doesn't.
how would I do s4?
that's a really big question. well, obviously i'd have hannibal and will together, trying to navigate this new existence together. i think will would definitely experience some weird feelings. he meant to kill them, after all, and survival would mean dealing with that failure and having to live with the acceptance that he experienced before throwing them over. hannibal would see it as a new beginning, a more literal rebirth than even he was able to give to will. they'd have to be on the run as evidence from the dragon crime scene would reveal that will was complicit. like many people, i'd love to see chiyoh return. when last we saw her, she both said she wanted him caged and she wanted to protect him. ngl i haven't done a lot of critical thinking about chiyoh, but i'd love to see her character fleshed out and explored more.
on the other side of things with the other characters, this would be a huge scandal for the fbi. jack approved will's plan of faking the escape, he asked for will to come back, etc. he'd probably be taking some fire for basically repeating the same mistake that he made 3 years ago. it seems that he returned to the fbi after bella died specifically to hunt down hannibal at the beginning of s3 (in aperitivo, he's packing his things and telling chilton he's let it all go, but then by digestivo, he's coming to arrest hannibal in wolf trap), and maybe he stayed with it because he had nothing else. it would be interesting to see him give up on the fbi all over again. he's skirted the law so many times in pursuit of hannibal and now he's been burned by will 2 times. maybe, he reverts to his vigilante justice of contorno (uh lets just admit i want to see unhinged jack beat hannibal's ass again). him finally giving up on will would also be interesting. he's always claimed that will will come back to himself no matter what, but now there's clear evidence smacking him in the face that this is not the case. how will he deal with his own mistakes leading him to this conclusion? jack is a flawed character just like everyone else, and although there have been times where he's shown guilt or regret, he always returns to "i will do whatever it takes to have justice." i'd like to see him grapple with the cost of that.
for margot and alana. god i want so much lol, so much that they did not give us in s3. they'd be a great parallel for will and hannibal in a s4. i want to see the long term effects of them dealing with having killed mason + making a deal with hannibal. they're going into hiding in s3 so possibly they'd be abroad as well. would they begin to question what they've done? would they begin to question each other? their relationship mutually benefitted one another in s3 almost to a contractual point, but does it make sense anymore when they can't even enjoy those benefits? i'm not saying they don't love each other, but realistically, i think they'd face issues down the road.
like i said, will and hannibal would be a scandal and who loves a scandal more than freddie lounds? oh, she'd be all over molly and walter trying to get a scoop. she'd be all over the crime scene and jack too. and hannibal could still follow tattlecrime from wherever he and will are convalescing. i think molly would try to be as private as possible, be very irritated by freddie, etc, just try to move on, but privately, i'm sure she'd be really broken up and horrified. there was this side of will that she never really understood or realized existed (at least to this extent).
i've seen a lot of people say that they want chilton to become a killer, but idk, i don't really have any thoughts to add i don't really sit around thinking about chilton lmfao
but i think the main theme of the season would be "accepting the consequences of what i've done" bc it's now kind of all reached a critical point in which nothing will ever be the same and cannot be repaired or buried any longer.
EDIT: we saw bedelia with her leg cut off at the end of s3. i think it would be cool if this was posed in s4 as a flash forward. have will and hannibal spend the season figuring things out and end with them going after bedelia together. s3 and s4 would then end with the same shot and idk i just thing it would cool bc i don’t want to do a time jump past them recovering from the fall. bedelia could also spend the s4 trying to hide.
well, that got really long lol thanks for the ask!
send me a hannibal ask

Y'all need to read this
Thoughts of a conservative, aggressively christian, homophobic, bi!Dean & destiel denier
J*hn Winchester APOLOGIST:
John fucking Winchester deserves to be in Heaven because IN LEBANON HE WAS SO NICE (I have a whole other post to make about this fuck my life)
"John hit Dean? Were there bruises?" MMH
If it's only implied that John hit Dean on more than one occasion, then ✨it didn't happen✨
Me: Tells him about Flagstaff and the heavy implications of the beating on that occasion. Him: "Well, it's normal that he took out his anger on Dean. He lost his brother." I- MH
"You have to consider that (Lebanon) was in the latest seasons, you don't have to take everything in the continuity accountable." WRITERS TALK WRITERS TALK WRIT
Dean didn't have an orgy with Lee, and even if he did, it definitely was with 3 females and it's not gay cuz it's an orgy and you can tolerate the presence of another man for the sake of the jussy
Dean's orgy with Crowley and the triplets (at least 2 men, shown in canon) wasn't gay either cuz (see above) and one of them could still have been a woman (are you insinuating inc*st???!!! THOSE TWO ARE DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO FUCK THEIR SISTER!!!???)
"Isolation ✨transcends✨ sexuality, and Purgatory is just like prison and monasteries, where it's not gay to have sexual encounters with other men." So, DannyBean is canon? No❤ It doesn't count
Dean simply cannot be bisexual because he just doesn't perceive him that way, BUT he can be bi curious. That doesn't make him gay
BITCH! PROJECTING MUCH??!! THE FUCK?!!
And yes, I know what I'm talking about. I know things
Dean and Cas never had moments, and if they were to confirm their relationship and Dean's bisexuality, they SHOULD HAVE PLANTED THE SIGNS BEFORE???!!!!! WHAT SHOW HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING
As I proceed to list the moments™️, he finds all the possible excuses he can create to justify it as a bromance
Me: Tells him about the dog heaven/squirrel hell joke parallel with John and his gay sons. Him: "Well, Michael and Adam were trapped in the cage together, so they ✨shared some wanks together✨ at most, but that doesn't make them gay." WHAT????!!!!
The fact that Dean is literally based on a bisexual character means nothing
The teasing around Dean and Cas about their feelings for one another are just comic relief, even tho it stops being funny after the 4th time. Doesn't matter those are only mostly directed towards Dean and not Sam
"If the only ones pointing it ☝️ out were villains, then it means it is evil." OH WOW
"Parallels between Colette and Castiel? I don't remember there being any." SOMEBODY RESTRAIN ME
Jensen saying he doesn't want to put Dean in a box is just a way to get the people to talk about him ("I mean, he's a celebrity after all.") THE MAN LITERALLY WENT HIDING IN THE MOUNTAINS TO ESCAPE THE PRESS
Me: "Jared said Sam uses he/they pronouns" Him: "I don't understand."
(Brace yourself for this one) "I liked seeing Dean die. After all that plot armour, it's satisfying seeing it crumble like that. I'm almost upset Sam didn't die like that as well."
SO
In conclusion, what should I use to decorate the floor with his brains?
Tag yourself. I'm the ✨transcended sexuality✨
Just to clarify, this dude is a friend of a friend, I'm the only other person who has watched the show, and HE asked ME what I thought of the finale. I've known him for 5 years and it doesn't surprise me one bit that this is what he thinks.
#eat my fucking ass#✨isolation transcends sexuality✨#my God#just say you're projecting on Dean and are uncomfortable in your fragile sexuality#just suck one dick#suck one dick and get it over with#fucking bitch#john winchester#fuck john winchester#supernatural#spn#john winchester a+ parenting#burn you bitch#dean winchester#castiel#destiel#jensen ackles#misha collins#deancas#casdean#dean x castiel#spn season 16#jussy#dean x benny#dean x lee#benny lafitte#lee webb#bennydean#dean winchester is bi#al posts

My HTTYD 3 Criticisms
This is gonna be a long one so I’m gonna put my criticisms under a read more
Just wanted to make a post listing all of the HTTYD 3 criticisms I have (this isn’t an attack on people who liked the movie, it’s totally valid if you did, I just want to list some stuff that I didn’t like and stuff that, in my opinion, didn’t work in the movie)
- The Light Fury logically shouldn’t have been able to cloak in the first scene when she’s caged up, she would have needed to fly through a plasma blast and there’s no way she did that whilst caged??
- Snotlout hitting on Valka was just really weird and uncomfortable
- There’s no way Grimmel killed all of the Night Furies, he’s just one man with a bunch of Deathgrippers and a crossbow
- The Deathgrippers are portrayed as an ‘evil’ species of dragon, but the dragons are said to be just wild animals?? How can a wild animal be ‘evil’ and have evil intentions if they’re just wild animals? It’s not their fault that their diet consists of other dragons
- The Deathgrippers are also being controlled, drugged and held captive by Grimmel too, just like the Light Fury, but they don’t also deserve to be rescued too??
- If the Light Fury is so scared of humans why did she decide to pick Hiccup up and yeet him?? Surely she would have tried to avoid being seen and especially being touched by them after being caged and drugged by dragon hunters?? If Toothless had looked like he was in danger I could understand her trying to intervene and get rid of Hiccup but she intentionally came towards him unprovoked
- The Light Fury tried to kill Hiccup twice and Toothless didn’t growl once?? (I know she’s scared and I don’t blame her for lashing out at humans after being drugged and caged but I would’ve expected a stronger reaction from Toothless) But in the third date scene the Light Fury steps on a line in his drawing and that’s when he chooses to growl at her
- it feels like all of the other villains in the movie were just dumbed down to make Grimmel look smart
- Grimmel’s Night Fury info contradicts what the franchise has said or shown about Night Furies previously:
1. He said that Night Furies can’t fly for long periods without rest, yet Toothless has one of the biggest wing surface area to body ratios in the franchise and his wings are soaring wings like an eagles, and so he should be able to fly for maybe 4-6 hours straight without rest
2. He said Night Furies can’t survive cold temperatures but Toothless has been living in Berk for 6 years without an issue, and Berk is supposed to be freezing for most of the year according to Hiccup
- New Berk is only accessible by dragon, so how does New Berk trade with other villages? And sail out to catch fish for food? After all of the dragons are gone??
- Night Furies having the ability to cloak is pointless, they’re nocturnal and camouflaged when flying at night so they don’t need to be able to cloak. Idk maybe it could be a leftover adaption that they retained??
- Hiccup is portrayed as ‘naive’ for thinking that Toothless will come back to him
Toothless and Hiccup don’t have a parent-kid relationship. That would suggest that Toothless wants to get away from Hiccup and be more independent, yet he never showed an interest in flying without Hiccup until the Light Fury came along, and that was only because she wouldn’t let Hiccup get near her. If Toothless never showed signs wanting to leave Hiccup or fly on his own in the past then why is Hiccup naive for thinking that he’ll come back?
- Just a small thing but I would’ve liked to see Valka discovering the Hidden World with Hiccup, it would’ve been a nice to see them bonding over the discovery and it could’ve shown how far their mother-son relationship has come in a year
- The Mushroom Forest in the Hidden World must produce spores, and long exposure to mushroom spores causes lung inflammation so surely the dragons living in the Hidden World wouldn’t be able to breathe properly and would get sick from breathing in spores??
- The Light Furies don’t seem to fit with the Hidden World’s bright, saturated colours, their white, pale scales would stand out against the colourful vegetation growing there
- What if a group of Deathgrippers infiltrated the Hidden World? Wouldn’t the Hidden World dragons be trapped and cornered inside?
- Toothless didn’t consider his flock at all when he disappeared with the Light Fury for a day, shouldn’t he have been with them to help protect them just in case, especially since Grimmel just burned down their previous home and may still be tracking them?
- How can Toothless be the king of the hidden world, a place he only discovered hours ago, and command it? Wouldn’t the dragons there already have an alpha dragon??
- It would’ve been nice to have a moment in the Hidden World where Toothless seems homesick and misses Hiccup, just to know he at least still cares about him and hasn’t forgotten
- When the Light Fury comes back to New Berk and smells Grimmel she flies towards him instead of the opposite way??
- Toothless sacrifices his entire flock (including hatchlings) and lets them be caged up by the dragon hunters to save a girl he only met 3 days ago (not saying he shouldn’t care about the Light Fury but he should probably care a lot more about the well-being of the flock he’s been in charge of and has known for a year)
- The Light Fury is somehow aware enough in her drugged state to be able to fly straight with Grimmel on her back in the final chase scene (same point applies to the Deathgrippers throughout the entire movie now that I think about it)
- The Deathgrippers that were still attached to Grimmel’s airship as it crashed into the water weren’t at least attempted to be rescued and were left to drown
- The Deathgrippers shouldn’t have been able to catch up to two of the fastest dragons species in the franchise in the final chase scene
- Coming to the conclusion of the dragons leaving felt rushed and out of the blue
- The message at the end of this film totally contradicts the other two films; the first movie was based around the fact that dragons aren’t the wild, savage beasts that they are thought to be, but beings capable of human-like intelligence and emotion. HTTYD 3 contradicts this by saying the dragons are just wild animals and they can’t help following and listening to instinct.
HTTYD 2’s end message was even though there are bad people out there, we will still fight for what’s right, even if we have to go up against armies and armadas, we will change the world bit by bit so that people and dragons can live together in peace.
HTTYD 3 scraps that message and instead of fighting for the dragons and changing the world for the better, the dragons are just sent away to hide in a hole in the ocean indefinitely and are just left to hope that someone picks up where Berk left off. They beat the warlords pretty easily, Grimmel is gone and the Light Fury has started coming around to Hiccup so why do the dragons have to go all of a sudden?? New Berk isn’t accessible by bad guys (unless they have control of a dragon) and Berk has an entire flock of dragons on their side controlled by a Night Fury so their island is easily defendable.
They are in one of the best positions to continue rescuing, saving and protecting dragons yet that’s when they choose to give up?? Hiccup didn’t even give up in HTTYD 2 when his dad was killed by Drago but he beats a bunch of warlords and an apparently famed Night Fury hunter and that’s when he gives up?? It doesn’t make sense to me
- Toothless was able to smell the Light Fury from miles away in the exodus scene but wasn’t able to smell Hiccup from the rock he was lying on in that decade time skip and almost attacked him and his family, even though in the first film when Toothless was an actual wild dragon he knew Hiccup wasn’t a threat if he wasn’t holding a weapon
- Kinda bummed that Toothless’ appearance didn’t change between the ages of 21 and 31 in that decade time skip, I expected more nubs (the Light Fury too)
- The Homecoming short just proves that if people and dragons aren’t united anymore things just kind of almost go back to the way they were in HTTYD 1 (making the whole 6 years of human-dragon companionship just kind of pointless), the new generations of Berk will never grow up with dragons alongside them and see with their own eyes that they are more than just wild beasts (and apparently they weren’t being taught about dragons either until they put on the show about them according to the short), and dragons will never grow up alongside humans to see that some are good and want to help them, not trap and kill them.
- How is someone in the future supposed to pick up where Berk left off fighting for the dragons and uniting them when the Hidden World is so hostile towards humans?? No human is able to enter without getting swarmed by dragons
If you made it all the way to the bottom thanks for reading :] and again, I’m not trying to attack anyone who liked the movie, I’m just listing the things I, personally, didn’t like about it and the things that I thought didn’t work.

Adapting Historical Fashion for the Fantasy Eye
I’m back. Why? Because we’ve seen a resurgence of people talking about corsets and whether they were the death traps some would like you to believe (they weren’t and we’re not here to discuss that but I beg you to do some research), people not knowing that there is a vibrant and active historical fashion community who either engage in history bounding (dressing up in period accurate clothing) or add elements of it to their daily lives, and just as always people not knowing the difference between stays and corsets.
But, June, you say. You’re a fantasy writer. What does historically accurate clothing have to do with anything? Historical accuracy is for losers. And to that I say, you are correct. But if you’re using something that has a heavy historical context (like clothing, technology, etc) you might as well know a thing or two about the subject before looking a fool. If only because readers like me notice the small things and cry OR because the aesthetics are cool but knowing where they come from and how they can be changed to fit your world is even cooler.
Fashion defines a society. Fashion defines a culture. What garments are important? What garments are the same among the upper and lower class? Do their roles as garments change depending on class? (ex: stays were often wore “out” for working class women while upper class women would see them strictly as undergarments) How do fashion trends define the eras? It’s not hard to notice that throughout history nearly every decade as a definite silhouette. It’s not hard to tell the difference from a regency era gown from an early Victorian gown to a late Victorian one. They all look vastly different.
I’m not asking anyone to know the ins and out of historical clothing but it doesn’t hurt to read up on it or look at some existing examples. To know the anatomy and construction of what would make a complete outfit (or to read about what people might wear for a given situation if no artwork or garment exists). It all feeds into how your characters hold themselves, how they might be able to move. It’s not so much that people were just “Shaped Differently” back then. Their clothes were constructed with a certain poise or look in mind. And y’know. I just want to stop seeing modern underwear in fantasy underneath historical clothing while we all pretend the undergarments don’t contribute greatly to the finished overall look.
But again, you’re right. We’re not writing historical fiction here. We don’t need to have every mention of clothing in our fantasy novels be completely in line with the point in time we might be basing our setting off of. This is about adaptation.
Adapting Historical Fashion for Non-Historical Purposes.
I’ve said it a bunch by now I’m sure. My books take place in a world based off the late 18th century. Why? I dig it. As such, when I first started putting together the aesthetics of the world that period was also my go to. I know I already did a whole thing on culture and society but really this is more or less just about how fashion can amplify those two things. I mentioned setting and what fabrics might be commonly used or found. And what might make sense to use (lighter, breathy fabrics for hot climates vs thicker fabrics and furs for cold ones) vs ones considered high class and enviable or with trends that might be coming from other countries that have stronger influence.
When I take real life fashion and shove it into my world (give or take a few changes) I usually ask myself a few things first.
1. Who controls the fashion trends?
The younger generation, the monarchs, a group of travelers who just look super stellar? Who is the rest of the community following when it comes to the newest look and what elements of it are they trying to steal/adapt? What element is the thing that really catches on?
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge fan of waistcoats and breeches and stockings, tailed coats with flaps (although anyone who reads my book will also know I axed powdered wigs. Because I could.) But to just copy wouldn’t say much about the opulent and flamboyant Escana. To increase the idea of the vanity and the peacock attitude of the younger, partying courtiers I have young men who usually dye their stockings to match their waistcoats (because colored socks > white or black socks) and forgo the coat to show off sleeve details as well as lose some of that “seriousness”. It says a lot about them while still remaining in a circle that gives readers a clue as to where my inspiration came from.
2. Who disagrees with the fashion trends?
And how does their disagreement influence the perception of certain garments or the people who wear them? Just read one thing about how evil corsets are and how crinolines are literally cages for women and how many of us go around thinking Victorian ladies fainted every time they opened a window and understand these perceptions can be long-lasting and completely change an outsider’s opinion on how people lived. Granted for world-building or story purposes hopefully these will be happening currently instead of being a huge misunderstanding of history.
Over and over again I say things like cultures not being monoliths but neither are generations and there’s nothing that makes a world feel more lived in and full than people who don’t all wear a uniform based vaguely on what the author thinks a medieval gown looked like. It’s just also sometimes nice to get tidbits like a character wearing a scandalous or pricey color just to look good even if they can’t afford it. Is it usually super vital to the plot and story? No. If used sparingly can it be fun background information to how the society your character lives in works or views things? Sure.
3. Colors and fabrics and spares, oh my
Okay. That’s not a question. But it’s an umbrella for me to put my thoughts under. Because I live in the 21st century I don’t often think about things like dyes or luxury fabrics but this would be front of mind for most of my characters. Not everyone can afford to wear certain colors, or certain colors come with a context that means they shouldn’t be worn for certain situations or for certain people and the same could be said for fabric. We live with these fashion rules now (although I’m not so strict in my memory of them because my current life doesn’t depend on it, but I do write about princes and courts so it’s more important for a courtier to not wear a happy color to a funeral than for me. Or things like no white after labor day).
Hand-me-downs. I grew up wearing them. They were common in history and should be more common in fantasy. If a family was not wealthy they could only afford so much fabric or to follow fashion trends for their eldest. It wouldn’t be unheard of for a family to still be wearing clothes considered “outdated” and it’s not like we all just throw our clothes out when they get old. While a trend might have moved onto a new silhouette or something, someone with less means might still be wearing decades-old clothing that have held up well (these clothes were built to last. Fast fashion could never) or could have chosen not to jump on the trend at all. In my book, the opulent courtiers and royals of Graza Palace dress completely different than some traditionalists who wear garments more native to Escan before it was an empire that are completely different from the suits and 18th century gowns I’ve borrowed. They’re timeless and probably see a lot more turnover from one family member to the next than a gown that could be out of style in a year.
4. And lastly, making sure I’m not turning it into a costume
This becomes important when taking garments that have a cultural context in the real world and using something similar to it or basing another garment off of it. I would start with this for the purposes of using culture clues to ease someone into what actual culture the fantasy one is taking inspiration from to give them a taste of what certain things might look like without going into full detail but it’s key to then know what makes these garments...these garments so you’re not bastardizing them. Why do people wear them? (especially if a form is still worn in modern times) What are they usually made out of? What are the occasions they are worn for? A respectful nod to something will just add to your world building, a costume rendition with 0 understanding of how certain garments will work will just make it seem like all your characters are in cosplay.
So in conclusion: No, I’m not advocating you be historically accurate for your already not historically accurate but it pays to look into why your basing clothing off a certain period and what goes into making that piece of clothing...that piece of clothing. Why it looks that way, how someone wearing it would look/hold themselves, and what it means in the context of your setting as well as things you might change and take extra liberties with for the purpose of storytelling. Clothing can add character and it could be just as useful a tool in world building (in my biased opinion) as language given that fashion can have such a huge impact on people but it can also fall flat.
#june trash#world building#worldbuilding#tss trilogy#thanks for letting me rant#I'm glad I got that out#never post another picture of a robe a la anglaise and say something about corsets again if you wish to live

animaniacs - s1e44: the world can wait
episode summary: brain puts off his plan of taking over the world so he can try to pick up a girl mouse he met and instantly fell in love with for some reason.
there’s no plan in this episode, but it’s funny, so it goes here anyway.
the rundown:
we open with pinky bothering brain about how they’re going to take over the world tonight. his initial plan is to “trap them in super sticky chewing gum”, which i’m not entirely convinced by, but as we learn later pinky kind of has a knack for this sort of thing, so i’m willing to go with it if they are.
but no! apparently not. pinky’s next suggestion is “how about we wrestle the president?” before suplexing himself. shame this episode was made in the 90s, huh. keep that energy for the 2020 reboot please, pinky.
zort.
yet another refusal has pinky worried. as he questions “but gee, brain, we are going to take over the world, aren’t we?” brain replies with the unthinkable.
“not tonight, pinky. the world can wait.”
“egad, brain. are you feeling alright?”
turns out that brain is putting off his plans for world conquest for more noble, heterosexual persuits - namely, a girl mouse who lives in a cage on the opposite shelf. pinky finds the prospect of brain being into anyone completely fucking hilarious, apparently, and makes fun of him in the background as brain witters on about his new waifu.
“she is of simple folk, fair and true.” “you mean she’s stupid?” “a bit.” mean. pinky keeps negging brain about it until he gets bonked on the head for his troubles, and then brain puts on a fancy jacket and drags pinky off to be his wingman.
isn’t he cute?
but anyway, here comes billie. apparently she lives in this sparse, empty cage by herself, which you’re really not supposed to do with female mice. they need companions otherwise they get lonely and actually you’re not supposed to keep male mice together either.....
.............................................................................................
everyone in this show is trans.
ok that was half a joke. undeterred, brain goes off to harass his Fair Damsel.
“i, my lady, am the brain,” he says, introducing himself without his fedora, for a change. “we met together in the maze.”
“oh yeah. i remember you. egghead.” what the fuck is her accent?? new york?? i’m genuinely lost. this is not a voice normal people have.
pinky thinks this is hilarious, and agrees enthustically that brain is, in fact, Egg Head, so brain bonks him over the head with a baseball bat he found somewhere. undeterred, he moves onto presenting billie with a “precious, simple gift.”
“it’s an actual working mockup of the betatron particle accelerator.”
that’s... cute, brain. not entirely sure what she’s going to do with a particle accelerator in her otherwise totally empty cage, but he’s trying! and that’s what matters.
“it kinda looks like a--”
“BIG METAL DONUT.”
HAHAHEHEHAHAHA.
“yeah, like a big metal donut. say, egghead? who’s your friend? he’s funny.”
oh dear.
oh dear. this date has been going for like two minutes and already, brain is getting cucked. still, he introduces pinky, out of politeness.
and then he decides “fuck that” and puts him in the particle accelerator and spins him away.
which is just kind of mean, honestly.
“aw, i like him.” “pinky? but he’s barely verbal.”
“well pardon me, mr egghead, but i happen to like that. goodnight.”
ouch. brain tries to change her mind, and has all of two seconds to do that before pinky bonks him off the shelf.
if you love me let me go, etc.
cut to back in the cage, where pinky is bandaging brain’s head. he must have bonked it on his fall, which is very sad. pinky seems otherwise unharmed, and is bullying brain over how the previous three minutes or so of the short went. “i think she likes you!” he chortles, amidst brain’s protests. haha, narf.
“no, pinky, the fact of the matter is, she likes you.” “but brain, i’ve already got a girlfriend.”
“pinky. you are a mouse. that is a horse.”
still, unconventional taste in partners aside (and how cute it is that he has a little picture of fignewton by their bed!) brain eventually figures out that in order to win billie’s heart, he should ask pinky what he would say to woo her. this obviously goes about as well as one would expect.
ok i wasn’t going to talk about this but when he gets there billie is like “who’s there? pinky? is that you pinky?” and brain makes this face.
“no.”
which i thought was very funny.
billie is less enthused by this particular mouse, until he starts saying some completely nonsensical shit, to which she is instantly on board.
“please, call me eggy. n. narf.”
“now, tell her-- poit-- i like your toenails.”
thanks! i got them from the president.
brain goes above and beyond, also mentioning that her head looks like a “really clean carrot”-- yknow what, i really don’t think these were serious suggestions from pinky. i think he was just being a dick. but it works! billie is swayed.
“i guess i got you pegged all wrong. why don’t you come up here? i like you.”
hee hee.
conclusion:
alas, unfortunately, brain never gets the opportunity to get pegged correctly, this time. hoo hoo. at that exact moment a bunch of scientists show up. despite complaining that they’re “going to be late for bowling”, homeboy needs to electrocute a mouse right now, immediately, so he goes ahead and does that.
the boys do their best! unfortunately, they don’t quite get there in time to stop this from happening.
(at this point brain gives off the most unconvincing “oh no, we’re too late” that i have perhaps ever heard, but i don’t blame maurice for that, because i understand it must be hard to make drunk orson welles sound sympathetic. hrrraaarrrgh. french excellence.)
still, he does seem genuinely concerned. “billie, are you alright?”
“eggy?” she asks, on the verge of death. “is that you, eggy?” brain confirms that he is, in fact, Eggy, and she goes in for a hug.
“oh, eggy. i thought the electro-polarity had altered the reticular formation in my medulla oblongata.”
oh no.
“egad, brain,” says pinky, who is bad at helping. “she’s probably even smarter than you.”
oh no indeed.
so.... yeah. turns out she is. she even makes a habit of correcting brain’s formula. as brain has a small breakdown over the fact that he’s been obsessing over that for the past five months... um. actually, that’s like... ~17 years to a mouse, give or take. how old are these guys??? what did acme do to them?
brain makes this face.
and then leaves.
“but brain! oh, so you don’t love her any more just because she’s smarter than you?” you can’t really see it in this screencap, but pinky does look genuinely concerned. good on him for calling out this fuckboy behaviour! absolutely appalling. you’re definitely not getting pegged with that attitude, brain. work on yourself.
“oh, i do love her, pinky. i do. but i must quickly go develop a plan so that we can take over the world.”
“why.”
“because if i don’t, she may beat us to it.”
so, theoretically, the tally stays the same. nothing happened in this episode. there was no plan. it was just brain being straight for seven minutes or so.
brain: 3 pinky: 3 outside influence: 5
but billie also gets a fair few points for not pegging brain while she had the chance, so there’s that.
billie: however many points that is
this has been another
useless review.
#patb#pinky and the brain#a!#animaniacs#i have the next review in the works bc i started it earlier lol#i won't be able to get it out before the stream but! hopefully tomorrow...

Strangers from hell / Hell is other people
Rate. 100/10 ~~~ (There’s a spoiler alert after the actors review)
I must say I LOVED all the actors work; they were so good, I think they did an amazing job portraying their characters (especially Park Jong-Hwan). This is the first time for me watching the work of Im Si-Wan and to be honest I was very pleased. At first, I thought that compared to the characters of Eden studio it was very poor, like a “normal” acting, we saw him getting scared and pissed at times but there wasn’t anything where you could say like “AH SHIT, that’s a good actor”, BUT as the drama went on I realized how a great actor he is, especially the last episode I was like *wtf wahh* so, yeah, GREAT.
Lee Dong-Wook, ah, my Wookie baby uwu, I haven’t seen many kdramas (just 14, to be precise; I started about a month ago) but I *loved* the ones with LDW on them (Life, Goblin and Touch your heart). He gave me this inner impression that is an amazing actor just with his eyes and facial expressions, I felt like he didn’t change his corporal movements on this 3 dramas, but he could perform feelings and emotions very well with just his face so I was amazed. AND HERE, wah, he was A W E S O M E, the smile he created for Moon-Jo was SO fuckin creepy while his whole body felt at peace. It felt like Dong-Wook can portray really scary characters as an easy job, wah.
Park Jong-Hwan was really good with his acting too, since the first time I saw the giggly twin it didn’t feel like acting to me, I remember that at a moment I thought “I feel like he is a real person”. I remember that I actually appreciated the work of Jong-Hwan on this scene where Moon-Jo is threatening the people in the 4th floor after killing one of them and I thought “this whole time I’ve been feeling that these two were real and different people, who tf is this actor”. Really nice job. -I’ll stop here with the actors because it went too long, sorry :(
As for the plot, it was p e r f e c t. I think it didn’t have any holes in the story like many thrillers with serial killers have. Although it bothers me this scene when the newcomer borrows the charger from Jong-Woo¿¿ and I also thought that he had something weird when he ate the meat and said he liked it… but anyway, it’s very well written AND wrapped up at the end, wahh.
(SPOILER ALERT)
The characters’ development was perfect too, as for the timing AND the emotions they were experiencing. I liked how Byeon Deuk-Jong (giggly twin) seemed fearless at the beginning but it changes drastically when MoonJo kills his brother, he was notoriously scared in this scene when MoonJo threatens him asking if he wants to leave too and he replies with “that’s ridiculous. I love what I do, I love this job… so much” DUDE WAS ABOUT TO CRY. And what to say about Jong-woo, I actually believed at some point that he might be able to overcome the whole story nicely, escape from hell and everything but BAAM, there you see him in his clinical bed with all his memories of killing and “finishing” his book, ugh, MoonJo definitely created a fine piece of his art and I think he won’t let it go.
YES I think MoonJo might be alive! At first I had no doubts he “lost” the war (“-” because he knew he was going to win even if he had to die, “honey, now you and I will be together forever”; he knew that the human mind is complicated and Joon-woo will carry him in his thoughts for a loooong time) but then when the police officer (sorry I don’t remember her name) saw him in the elevator I was so confused, I mean, at some point I believed that MoonJo wasn’t human, he was everywhere and always disappeared¿ and let’s not forget that he appeared as shadows too so.. but I decided to believe him human, so I went on and then I saw again the part where JongWoo kills the gang and guess what? When we saw him killing MoonJo, it was all in the officer’s mind. Then when she goes away and we’re back in JongWoo’s mind/memories we see a JongWoo out of his mind and still scared of his creator, yes, we see a dying MoonJo there too, but in the same scene he’s alone hallucinating with MoonJo strangling him¿. Besides, I really can’t think of a reason why the officer could be hallucinating whit MoonJo, every time she saw him, he was actually there. Let’s not forget either that MoonJo has connections in the police and a lot of experience and knowledge about murder and the human body, he knew about sleeping toxins too and actually had them (remember every time the landlady made JongWoo dizzy? And how MoonJo said that JW girlfriend was just sleeping too) so yeah, I really think it’s a possibility, plus, if he survives in the original comic, why can’t he survive here too?
The bromance. I actually don’t agree with this one, a lot of people’re saying this about JongWoo and MoonJo, and I even read that someone said MoonJo wouldn’t dare to kill JongWoo because he said that JW was really special to him. I mean, of course JongWoo was special HE WAS AN EXPERIMENT, and MoonJo had a lot of faith in it. To begin with, I’m sure that Ki-Hyeok (Lee Hyun-Wook) was going to be the successor of Moon-Jo. Ki-Hyeok behaved exactly like MoonJo; he was calm, he stopped the fights for the gang to behave accord the rules and not precipitate, he also had this serene creepy smile that distinguishes the temple of MoonJo from the rest of the studio buddies, even the black long sleeve shirt
I don’t know if this exactly is important but I noticed it and the fact that both of them found scared JongWoo at the same spot which wasn’t tied to the studio, we even heard a lot of characters asking Moon-Jo if Jong-Woo was really going to be the replacement of unit 302 (anyways, I think we had it clear when we had the scene of Ki-Hyeok as a newcomer of the studio).
And I noticed that Moon-Jo had a kind of affection for Ki-Hyeok since his eyes were wet while killing him, maybe he actually had to low his head as we saw because he reached the tear point. So, if Moon-Jo did not hesitate in killing his Ki-Hyeok creation, certainly he could easily do the same if Jong-Woo didn’t turn as he wanted. In conclusion, when Moon-Jo says “Jong-Woo is very special to me” he’s thinking of JW as his prey and potential and better Ki-Hyeok.
Other things I liked very much were the direction details. I especially loved the scenes from above where we could see all the involved characters at the same time, in most of the movies/shows when someone is behind the door they show the person inside, and then the camera goes by the door and show the other one behind, but this had the complete view and that was even more terrifying. And I have to point the fact that every time a character felt trapped he was just surrounded by other people, and it reinforced the meaning of “hell is other people”; they didn’t have chains nor were they in cages or cells, but around smiley creepy people. I also appreciate that there weren’t strange things like pop-up terrifying faces and stuff, horror levels went gradually up on their own as the drama progressed, it was awesome. I have nothing bad to say about the OST either, it’s a really nice one and suited perfectly to the drama, it gave this suspense feeling even when the spectator can imagine what’s going to happen.
The P L O T W I S T S; shit these were nicely done. I wasn’t surprised at all about Dong-Wook character, I actually felt good when he killed Ki-Hyeong because I had this impression that he was like, the head of what happens in the studio (whatever it was it had to be him, I was sure) so after that I thought “yeah, now I’ll get to see you more bby”, wasn’t wrong at all… but:
The twins! I was like *WTF WHY WHERE WHEN WAH*, it was really unexpected for me.
When Jong-Woo had to decide whether to kill his friend or let his girlfriend die, and he went after Moon-Jo, shit, I really thought he was going to kill the poor guy.
The ending – I was kinda impressed with the ending because of the last point, when Jong-Woo decided to fight Moon-Jo it was cleared that Jong-Woo strongly believed that he wasn’t like the studio people, ~my friend is a good person, I can’t kill him- but Moon-Jo? This mtf son of a bitch~ vibes, and then at the very very end he was all messed up because (as MJ said, he enjoyed killing the studio people) he really hated them and that rotted his mind, ugh, nice end wrapping anyway, I was very pleased with it.

Turnabout and Start Again part 4
(Thanks as always to @miyuki4s and @morphia-writes for beta help!) part one | part two | part three
Lan Wangji reaches the edge of the village at dusk on the third day. Three days of walking, of meditating while a small handful of rice cooks over a smoldering campfire and easing his body through unarmed, sword, and horse-whisk forms when twilight makes continued travel too treacherous. His horse-whisk forms are not as fluid as his sword forms but the flow of it is coming back to him with practice, even if this body is weaker than his own and sometimes stumbles through movements he’s accustomed to performing by instinct. His spiritual energy replenishes slowly; it’s clear that the cultivator who was born to this body had training, and practice, but perhaps in a limited and unfocused direction. Or perhaps the time in the cells had been more grueling and damaging than Lan Wangj first assumed. The curse mark has darkened around the edges, which does not bode well. Without a golden core to draw on he will need assistance soon.
The soul bond does not care about buildings, fences or propriety. He knows Wei Ying is nearby, close, but that is all.
“Wait!” He turns. A man wearing a merchant’s apron is running towards him, one arm raised to gesturing him closer. “Please come inside quickly, it’s not safe—” he startles to a halt and bows. “Ah, forgive me, Daozhang. Perhaps you already know of our problems.”
He frowns. “Problems?” Perhaps he should not be surprised to find trouble. Wei Ying must be here for a reason.
“It’s plagued us for three days now.” The merchant looks over his own shoulder. “The whole of the Wang family—The streets are not safe—”
There is a scream to the east, and the merchant pales.
“It’s started again.”
“Protect yourself and your family,” Lan Wangji instructs, looking beyond the man to the lantern-lit doorway of a pottery shop and the faces peering through it. He turns toward the sound of the scream and runs.
He is not fast enough. He arrives to find an elderly man dead on the ground and a pair of onlookers, both grieving. No. Not elderly. The dead man has been stripped of both life and spirit, his remains sunken and shriveled, making it impossible to tell his original age. He is also missing his left arm, as if it had been severed from the shoulder.
“What did this?” Lan Wangji asks.
“It was the ghost,” the younger woman says, “We were on our way home, and Gege started attacking that man—” she hiccups, “—I told him not to touch the cultivators’ things. He said it would protect us—” she stops, crying harder. The older woman has not looked up at all.
Lan Wangji has never been good at giving comfort. The best he can offer is a quick and just conclusion to this family’s troubles. He bends to search the corpse for the mentioned cultivator’s tool and finds a spirit lure tucked inside the cross of his yi. It seems the man drew trouble upon himself, however good his intentions.
“You should move indoors,” he says, folding the lure into his own sleeve. There are worse-prepared targets at risk. “Where is the other man now?” he asks. The young woman points wordlessly down an alley and he sets off again, more slowly this time, listening hard.
Not a ghost, he thinks. Not if it has killed for multiple nights in a row.
The alley opens onto the main market street; the street stalls are deserted, the lanterns snuffed out. Even the buildings are closed and shuttered, weak light bleeding around the edges of windows and doors. Spirit lures hang at intervals, most of them drafted by the same hand as the one he carries, but there are small differences. The first one he passes might reach twelve li, the second only ten li. By the time he reaches the third he realizes the change is deliberate; this cultivator is trading distance for attraction. The flags are a path, drawing spirits ever inward. The one he bears is stronger than the ones he passes. He picks up his pace.
Something lunges out of the shadows, a hand outstretched toward his face, and he whirls aside, sinking into a ready stance.
There is no life in his attacker’s bulging eyes. No human coordination to his movements. Whatever has possessed him does not restrict itself to the limits of skin and bone and muscle. Lan Wangji whirls again, readying the horsetail whisk in one hand and shaking out the spirit lure with the other.
Three passes with the whisk and a few steps deeper into the lure trap and the body shudders. The skin sucks inward, the legs stumble. It falls.
The left hand still moves, twisting out of the man’s pale sleeve and lunging towards Lan Wangji even faster than before, as if possessing a body had been holding it back.
Turn, strike, step back. Strike, step, turn.
This is no average fierce corpse, born from an average man resentful in death and dismemberment. Each strike takes more effort than the last. The whisk will not survive another.
Lan Wangji can feel his spiritual power fading. His arms are trembling, and his breath comes more quickly. He drops the strikes out of the pattern, whirling and turning, leading the arm back and further back down the path of lure flags in the hopes that whoever set them has more in mind than simply choosing their battlefield.
“Over here!” someone yells, but he cannot take his eyes off the arm. A moment later he is flanked by two cultivators, one in dark colors, one in pale shades, their swords already drawn. The high, piercing notes of a familiar dizi sing through the night air.
Chenqing. Wei Ying.
In the shadows beyond the arm, back up the path Lan Wangji has traveled, the corpse of the formerly possessed man lurches to its feet and rushes forward.
“There’s an array 3 zhang behind you,” the cultivator on his left says. “Throw the lure in the center!”
“We don’t need the lure,” scoffs the other one, but Lan Wangji can see how their swords shake under the arm’s attacks, even with another fierce corpse to act as distraction.
Lan Wangji backs up quickly and spins to find this new target. The array is a shadow, darker and more menacing than the simple absence of light, a peculiarity emphasized by the ring of lanterns placed around it. He throws the lure into its center.
A dismayed shout sounds behind him and something hits his shoulder hard. The arm. Long nails dig through the layers of his clothes, which are only cloth—there are no protective talismans stitched into the seams or collar.
He turns as swiftly as he can, shedding his outer layer and swiping with the whisk to flip the whole bundle—arm and yi together—into the array.
The arm struggles for a moment, then quiets.
Chenqing’s notes fade. A sharp whistle sounds out.
Wei Ying jumps to the edge of the array.
Wei Ying.
He looks … older than Lan Wangji remembers. And calmer, the riot of resentment that had churned within him no longer threatening to slip from his grasp due to a moment’s inattention.
He still does not carry a sword.
A lingering, scrabbling fear that Lan Wangji’s efforts had come to nothing or gone awry is soothed and swept away. Wei Ying lives. Wei Ying is whole.
Wei Ying kneels at the edge of the array and snaps his fingers. The shadowy edges rise like a cage and twist inward, bearing down until the arm is engulfed in it, and then the dark mass is swept neatly into a qiankun pouch. Lan Wangji’s dark outermost yi and the now-broken horsetail whisk sit alone on the cobblestone street.
“That was quick thinking,” Wei Ying says as he retrieves the _yi _and holds it out. “Sorry it came to that. Someone was supposed to be guarding that lure.”
There is no recognition in Wei Ying’s eyes. Lan Wangji is not certain why he thought there would be, when he still does not recognize the face he wears any time he catches a glimpse of it.
He reaches for the yi. Perhaps if they touch—perhaps the soul bond—
“Wei-zongzhu,” one of the cultivators says, the one who had stood on his left, who wears the same black and red as Wei Ying. Because, Lan Wangji realizes, Wei Ying is a sect leader now, with disciples, and not only refugees in his care. Zongzhu. He hadn’t thought Wei Ying was interested in the position.
Two more cultivators have joined the group, also in black and red. The fourth wears pale gold that glimmers in the lantern light. Lan Wangji takes the yi from a lower part, far from Wei Ying’s hand. This is not a revelation he feels like sharing indiscriminately.
Wei Ying follows his disciple’s gaze and looks over his shoulder. “Oh.” He sounds resigned. Lan Wangji turns to see what has caught his attention.
A party of cultivators is alighting in the street. A very familiar party of cultivators, wearing Gusu-Lan white and blue, pale ribbons drawing bright lines across their foreheads. Most of them are young, the cut and embroidery of their hanfu marking them as junior disciples. Lan Wangji doesn’t recognize any of them. None but the leader, who is so familiar Lan Wangji knows him by the glare of his sword before he lands, by the xiao at his side, by the line of his shoulders and the way he scans over his companions to make sure they’ve all arrived safely.
His brother’s face was more familiar than his own even before the past three days.
“Wei-zongzhu,” says Lan Xichen. He sheathes Shuoyue, then bows with cold grace. There is no smile for Wei Ying. Instead of a curious glance to ascertain the health of his companions, his gaze is wary.
“Lan-zongzhu.” Wei Ying’s smile as he bows is bitter. “I didn’t realize the Lan Clan had extended their territory. We were investigating reports of a beast in the next valley when news of this threat reached us.”
“Of course.” Lan Wangji has never seen his brother so stern. “And do you have conclusions to share?”
“A particularly angry victim of lingchi.” Wei Ying holds up his qiankun pouch. “Or rather, his left arm. The rest of him seems to be beyond my lures’ reach.”
Lan Xichen nods. “And is the Yiling-Wei Sect taking on the responsibility of reuniting the pieces?”
Wei Ying shrugs, then turns to Lan Wangji. “Unless you wish to claim it?” he asks.
Lan Wangji shakes his head. Speech is impossible, words locked in this throat.
“Liang Feihong-gongzi?”
The name is familiar, but still it takes him a moment to realize Lan Xichen is not looking among his own disciples, but at Lan Wangji. Recognizing the body, but not the soul occupying it. That too is a blow, different from Wei Ying’s ignorance. His brother has always known him best, but does not see him now.
Liang Feihong. That’s who this body belongs to. Born in Caiyi, Lan Wangji remembers. Son of a fisherman. Trained for several years but returned to his family after news of his father's death during the war. Lan Wangji is abruptly grateful he’d thought to wear the forehead ribbon only to tie up his hair before encountering another cultivator. He has no explanation for why Liang Feihong would still be wearing it as intended.
“I was sorry to hear about your circumstances,” Lan Xichen is saying, concern and warmth returning to his voice. “I hope you remember that you can always return to us, if you have need.”
Lan Wangji does not reveal himself, or ask why Liang Feihong might have a publicly known need for aid. The tension between his brother and Wei Ying is too alarming to risk further confusion.
“Thank you Lan-zongzhu.” He bows in acknowledgment, the familiar necessities of polite niceties loosening his tongue. “I am grateful for your offer. I will keep it in mind.”
His brother smiles. “Please,” he says, “allow us to at least escort you back to Gusu, and see to your injuries.”
Gusu. Homesickness crashes over Lan Wangji like a wave. He could return to Cloud Recesses. In Cloud Recesses, the world will make sense, the last three days shrunken down to something more manageable. Cloud Recesses holds familiar clothes, familiar food, familiar patterns and quiet. His brother's familiar smile and steadiness and supportive, listening ear.
Or at least. Cloud Recesses had held those things. A lifetime ago, before he stood with his blade between his clan and Wei Ying, and before he was pinned to the stone of the central courtyard and whipped until he could do nothing but lie on his stomach and ache. Before he was banished to seclusion for three years and a war party marched for the Mass Graves.
He has not served that sentence. He has no reason to think the clan’s stance has improved; if anything, his brother’s icy politeness could indicate a change for the worse. If he goes to Gusu, if he reveals himself to his brother, he may never find Wei Ying again.
“Thank you, Lan-zongzhu,” he says, bowing again, “but I would prefer to remain with Wei-zongzhu. I have some questions for him.”
Lan Xichen’s gaze returns to Wei Ying. To the young cultivators at his sides.
“I see you are making a collection,” he says.
The Jin boy rolls his eyes. One of the Wei cultivators stiffens, her hand moving to her sword. The tallest sneers. The third looks to Wei Ying, who only shrugs, twirling Chenqing between his fingers.
“I only met your Liang-gongzi a few moments ago. Am I expected to turn away guests now?”
Even the young Lan disciples look uncomfortable. Whatever is happening between Wei Ying and Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji has just somehow made it worse.
“I mean no disrespect,” he tries, but his brother shakes his head, dismissing the words.
“There is no need,” he says. “I am long familiar with Wei-zongzhu’s … popularity.”
And then he leaves, moving back up the main street with long, deliberate steps. Moments later the Lan party rises above the rooftops, flying south.
“Self-righteous jerks,” one of the Wei cultivators mutters. When Lan Wangji looks at them the tallest one is being prodded with the young woman’s sword pommel and soundly shushed. The third one is still watching Wei Ying.
“Zongzhu…”
“Later.” Wei Ying’s expression as he faces Lan Wangji is unreadable. “I will be happy to consider your questions later this evening, Liang-gongzi, but I have some errands to see to. For now, please accept the hospitality of the Yiling-Wei Sect.” he bows, and Lan Wangji hurries to bow back, somehow still surprised at being addressed with someone else’s name.
“Thank you, Wei-zongzhu,” he says, forcing the title over his teeth. Wei Ying doesn’t know him. A personal name is inappropriate in the circumstances. Still, his throat aches with unsaid words.
“A-Yuan, see to it that our guest gets a meal and a bed for the night,” Wei Ying instructs. “We’ll return in the morning.”
“Of course,” the young man says. “Just remember—”
But Wei Ying is gone, already returned to the rooftops and making his way toward the town’s main square.
The young man sighs.
“My apologies, Liang-gongzi. Wei-zongzhu has a lot on his mind at the moment. I am Wen Sizhui, and these are my sect siblings, Liu Weixin-shidi and Zhou Xiuying-shimei.”
“And I’m Jin Ling,” says the Jin cultivator, also bowing. “Jin Rulan, but no one calls me that except Dajiu when he’s annoyed.”
Lan Wangji stares; a fathomless abyss of things he doesn’t know is opening under his ribs. Wen Sizhui, and Jin Rulan. The two of them, mostly grown and standing before him with swords at their sides, when last he’d known Wen Yuan had still been young enough to be carried and the infant Jin Ling had barely passed 100 days.
How much time has he lost?
How long has Wei Ying been walking the world without him?

What did you think of The Dragon Prince New Season? I love your reviews, could you talk about the Rayllum shipp?
Ahh sorry! Although I do watch TDP and BF and I did caught up with the new season last night, I am not good analyzing shows I watch on Netflix due to the binge-watching format. I only watch the episodes once and never bother give them individually a second watch. Just like I struggle doing film analysis based upon one single watch. Because I am watching the story unfold rather than seeing how the story is told. That’s why I prefer weekly broadcast format more. Because I can rewatch the episode while waiting for the next and let the story and the events of that episode sinks more into my mind.
I can give you my impressions, but it won’t be as detailed or well constructed precisely because I haven’t rewatch things while paying more attention.
Anyway, in general, this season was correct, but it felt rushed in term of pacing. That final big battle felt like it happened way too soon. I mean it is a large-scale battle already. What is going to happen for the next season finale? Though I did like that scene conclusion for Viren and Claudia there because the build up was properly established imo. But I cannot help but think they have combined two seasons into one. So maybe they don’t have as much “books” left to tell the story than they wanted.
Not to mention there is the technical limitation they have to deal with due to their choice to do this show in 3D animation even though this is a very large scale story. Thus why we don’t see the other kingdoms such as Neolandia or Duran. Thus why we see a lot of open fields this season. And there was a lot happening off-screen (good thing there are the drawings during the end credits, though I would greatly appreciate it if Netflix wasn’t so prone to skip them so quickly >_
Oh! And there was a lot of flashbacks this season, wasn’t it? I can’t say I was a big fan of how most were integrated into the story. Like for Rayla’s parents, I just wish Rayla chose herself and could witness the history spell instead of being told by Callum afterward what happened.
Anyway, character wise, I did enjoy Soren’s development even though I don’t particularly care for him. His confrontations with Claudia were strong moments.
Ezran has always been my favorite character since the beginning but that is a bit because I have a weak spot for child characters involved in big adventures. But I do really enjoy his growth. I wish they had time to better develop his relationship with Corvus and Opeli, but I understand it is a 9-episode season. Not a 13, 20 or 26 one.
I’m however disappointed to not have seen Pip. Not even in one scene. What happened to him? I don’t recall if anything particularly bad happened to him back at the end of S2 to explain why he wasn’t present there. If I recall correctly, he broke free of his cage, no? That’s why I am surprised we didn’t see him flew around or just watch over Ezran in the forest for example. (If the theory of Harrow being trapped inside Pip’s body is correct).
Amaya’s reunion with Glen was cute and I did like she got captured by the Sun elves. Again, just wish they had more time to build up more her friendship with Janai and that interpret I forgot the name. But I can believe Janai trusts Amaya enough because she has display warrior’s values despite being enemies. I just wish we could have seen Amaya works through her prejudices against elves more. And yes, I do ship those two. (From enemies to friends to lovers is a trope I enjoy a lot after all)
For Rayla and Callum. I like their friendship and support, but I dunno what bugged me exactly with their relationship development this season. They had cute scenes together like with the adoraburr field or when Callum tries to cheer Rayla and morally support her and sure, I can roll with them being a couple, yet there was something off-putting for me to the point I personally prefer seeing them as just friends.
Oh and Aaravos creeps the hell out of me.
So yeah, those are my impressions of the TDP season 3.

Part: 1 I 2 I 3 I 4 I 5 I 6 I 7 I 8 I 9 I 10 I 11 I 12 I 13 I 14 I Final
**
Kris watched in horror as Kyungsoo was flung across the room, the antler of the elk head stabbing him in right the abdomen. The younger wolf struggled to get to his feet before finally passing out from the blood loss. After losing consciousness, his body instinctively transformed back to human. The wound might heal, but possibly not in time.
Rage spiking in him, Kris snapped at the hybrid while Junmyeon kept his attention, biting down on his arm and shaking his head to snap the bones. Yixing and Baekhyun were holding their own against their opponent. The way the hybrid’s breath was ragged satisfied Kris, gearing up his focus.
As his vision went red, Kris rippled his muscles, cracked his bones, and allowed his body to turn from wolf to man. Having height as an advantage, Kris jumped on the first hybrid’s back, getting his arm around the neck and cradling the head in his hands. The hybrid snapped his jaws at him while Junmyeon clawed at his chest.
One of Kris’ worst memories flashed in his mind. He’d been in this position before, too many years ago, filled with hatred and self loathing. He was done running. He needed to be with his pack, with his brothers. It was time to end this.
Using all the strength he had in his body, Kris ripped the head from the hybrid’s neck, ignoring the sickly sound of tearing flesh.
The now headless body dropped to the ground, the fingers and knees twitching. Turning his sights on the other hybrid in the room, Kris stalked towards him, careful not to accidentally turn his anger on his pack mates. They managed to get the hybrid pinned down to the ground, moving out of Kris’ way. Stepping on the hybrid’s chest, Kris let all his weight push him deeper into the floor, creaking the old wooden boards. Breaking his neck, Kris waited as the hybrid stopped fighting before decapitating him.
“Yixing.” Kris’ voice came out as a growl. He was sure his eyes were still glowing red. He wasn’t done yet, but Kyungsoo needed to get out of here. “Help Kyungsoo. Take him home.”
The half gray, half white wolf nodded and shuddered until it was Yixing again.
“Hurry,” Kris ordered.
Yixing nodded before running to Kyungsoo and throwing the injured wolf over his shoulder. Kris motioned for the others to flank Yixing and they protected him as they exited the house.
The remaining hybrids were winning against the rest of the pack. After making sure that Yixing was in the clear, Kris turned his attention to the remaining four hybrids. It was easy to take out the first one. Minseok and Jongdae were a well oiled machine, working with each other in perfect harmony to keep the hybrid off guard. Noticing Kris’ approach, they moved to keep the hybrid’s back to the alpha.
Roaring, Kris pounced, wrapping himself around the hybrid and made quick work of him. The three of them turned to help Jongin and Sehun. Tao was hurt, limping and growling as he circled the hybrid and the others, waiting for his opportunity. Kris wouldn’t let his condition worsen though.
“Tao, make sure Yixing makes it back to house,” Kris ordered. Tao growled at him, hating the idea of leaving the fight. “Now!”
Unable to ignore the wishes of his alpha, Tao turned and ran after Yixing. In his wolf form, he’d catch up to them in no time, injured or not.
Running at the hybrid head on, Kris dropped down and slid across the ground, the gravel ripping at his thighs and calves. He went under the hybrid’s legs and grabbed his ankle, yanking him to the ground. Apparently this hybrid wasn’t that agile of a fighter.
Kris ordered for Minseok and Jongdae to bite down on each leg and pull in the opposite direction while Kris kept ahold of the head. The hybrid clawed at him, tearing up his arms and drawing blood from deep wounds that would take longer to heal. And then the head came off and the body went limp.
The last two hybrids were doing remarkably well against the nine of them. They tossed each wolf that lunged at them away like a plush toy. Back to back, they covered each other’s weak spots.
Junmyeon barked at Minseok and Jongdae, ordering them to go around the back. Granted, that was just Kris’ guess as he wasn’t linked up to them in his human form.
Minseok and Jongdae carefully walked around the the side, keeping low to the ground and trying not to be noticed.
It didn’t work.
One of the hybrids noticed and had Jongdae pinned to the ground in the blink of an eye. Minseok jumped, clawing and biting at the hybrid who refused to let go, his hands wrapped around Jongdae’s throat. Kris ran to help while the remaining wolves just piled onto the last of the hybrids.
Minseok ceased his attack once Kris was able to pull the hybrid away from the blonde wolf. But Kris lost his footing and was now trapped under the hybrid. Gray fingers gripped his throat, cutting off Kris’ air as he tried to fight and gain the upper hand. Black dots obscured his vision.
No. He couldn’t die right here. Not when his revenge wasn’t complete. Not when the others were still fighting.
Suddenly, the pressure was gone from his throat and air swiftly filled his lungs. A wolf with a coat mixed with gray and brown had the hybrid’s throat trapped within it’s jaws.
Junmyeon.
Kris scrambled to his feet, working with his old friend to end the hybrid in a second.
The last one was easy. Too many wolves surrounded him, swiping their claws and slashing him with his teeth. Even as he instantly healed, he was still overpowered, unable to get up from his knees. Kris fought his way to the middle and ended it quickly.
As soon as the hybrid was dead, everyone changed back to humans.
“Shit!” Baekhyun yelled. “I’m going to be sore for weeks.”
“Just be lucky that you didn’t get hurt worse since you refused to listen to us,” Sehun snapped.
“Enough,” Junmyeon commanded. “Let’s just be happy that it’s over with.”
“Not yet,” Kris corrected. “We have to burn them, too.”
“So that vampire trait didn’t get left out,” Chanyeol huffed between breaths. “That’s nice to know.”
“Just grab a body part and pile them in the living room,” Kris ordered. “We’ll set the house on fire and let it all burn.”
The boys nodded and ran around, Minseok gathering the heads, while the others split into groups and carried the bodies inside. Kris stopped Junmyeon before he could get too far.
“Thank you. For stepping back there. I thought I actually might….”
Junmyeon held out his hand. “From now one, we are one pack. It’s going to take time, but I’ll eventually be able to let go. You were right. You didn’t make Jiyoon go into the woods. And… it feels too right, having you all back here.”
Kris took the hand without hesitation. “That’s nice to hear. I don’t think Luhan and Tao want to leave anyway. Being home… it’s a bit addicting.”
The other alpha actually laughed. “Tearing those two away from Minseok and Sehun would be an impossible feat. Then we might just have a rebellion on our hands.”
“Hey!”Jongdae yelled from the front door. “Are you guys going to continue on like a married couple or actually help us start this fire?”
Frowning, Kris started towards the house with Junmyeon as Jongdae disappeared. “I thought maybe having a mate would mellow him out a bit.”
“Nope,” Junmyeon sighed. “It’s almost made him worse.”
**
You saw them coming as soon as they cleared the treeline.
You’d been sitting on the porch steps, wrapped up in a cardigan you’d found in Kyungsoo’s closet. With chattering teeth and shivering arms, you waited, needing to be the first person Kyungsoo saw when he made it back.
And he would make it back. He promised. And you believed him.
You shamed yourself for the way you broke down in front of him. It wasn’t the first time he’d seen you cry, but this was worse. You’d jumped to conclusions, letting fear take over you. How he was so patient with you, understanding that you weren’t perfectly healed yet amazed you. Shaking your head, you almost laughed at how pathetic you were. How broken. And yet, he was willing to patiently help you put the pieces back together.
Ji Yeon had come out once to check on you, bringing with her a fresh mug of hot chocolate for you. You took it gratefully, letting the heat melt your nearly frozen fingers.
“We don’t know when they’ll be back,” she’d told you. “You should come inside. Kyungsoo will be pissed if he hears that we let you stay out in the freezing cold.”
“He can be mad at me,” you’d argued. “I’m not going in.”
Sighing, Ji Yeon gave up. She hadn’t really put up much of a fight.
It’d been another forty-five minutes of waiting, of searching the horizon for any sign or movement, clinging to the now empty mug like a life preserver before you saw them. Only two bodies emerged from the trees.
You jumped up to your feet, tossing the cup to the side. They were running towards you and you moved out to meet them. One of them had a third pack member thrown over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. All three were naked, but you didn’t care.
Noticing your approach, the tall blonde one sped up, coming towards you. It was Tao.
Before you could ask him where the others were, Tao collided with you, caging your waist in his arms and planting you in place.
“Tao, what’s going on?” Why was he doing this? The other wolf, Yixing, came closer and you could finally see who he was carrying.
No. No, it couldn’t be.
“Kyungsoo?” you gasped. When he didn’t stir at the sound of your voice, you knew it was bad. “Kyungsoo!” You fought against Tao’s vice, clawing and flailing to get free, to get to your mate. “Let me go! I need to see him! Let me go!”
Yixing didn’t slow down for a second at your screaming. Tao picked you up off the ground and carried you to the house.
“Just calm down, (y/n),” Tao grunted. “He’ll be okay.”
He still didn’t let you go as he entered the house. The other girls were grouped together in the front parlor. Little droplets of blood were splattered on the ground, leading out of the room and mounting your worry.
“How are the others?” Ji Yeon asked softly. She was obviously holding back her own anxiety, trying to remain strong like she always was.
“They’re fine,” Tao replied. “A few scrapes, but nothing bad. Kyungsoo got the worst of it.”
“And Baekhyun?” Hae In pushed forward to the front of the group.
“He’s perfectly fine.”
Hae In sighed with relief.
Seeing an opportunity with Tao distracted, you elbowed him in the stomach, feeling guilty when he let out a groan. But his grip loosened just like you wanted it to and you ran out of the room with no one stopping you.
You followed the blood trail to the kitchen. Kyungsoo was laying on the table, groaning and mumbling as Yixing hovered over him. Hearing you approach, Yixing called out to you without losing his concentration.
“(y/n)? Come hold his hand. It’ll help keep him calm.”
Not even taking a second to think about it, you were by Kyungsoo’s side, taking his right hand in both of yours. It seemed to work. While his face was still scrunched from the pain of Yixing’s sewing, the rest of his body relaxed.
“What happened?” you asked, taking one of your hands and brushing Kyungsoo’s hair with your fingers. It was sticky and coated in sweat.
“He got distracted and the hybrid we were fighting threw him into a wall, right where there was a deer with sharp antlers,” Yixing explained. “It pierced his side, deeply it looks like. It’s been healing since he transformed back, but, with how deep it is, it’s going to need a little extra help.” Stopping his work, he turned to you. “He’ll be alright after a little rest. Our bodies heal quickly and can take much more damage than yours. With you by his side, he’ll be better in no time.”
After a few more stitches, Yixing declared he was done and cut the leftover string. He called Tao into the room and the two of them together carried Kyungsoo up to his room with you closely behind. Gently laying him down on the bed, Yixing checked to make sure the wound hadn’t reopened before covering Kyungsoo with the sheets and leaving. As you closed the door, you heard that beautiful voice.
“Finally, they’re gone.”
Gasping, you turned and ran towards the bed, kneeling down next Kyungsoo. His eyes were barely open as he reached out to you.
“Don’t stay down there,” he mumbled, pulling on your hand. “Come here.”
You shook your head. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Just come up here.,” he whined. You didn’t even know he was capable of such an action. “Please?”
Unable to resist, you rounded the bed and, as carefully as you could, you crawled up and pressed yourself into his side as he wrapped an arm around your waist.
“I told you I’d be back,” he said into your hair. Absentmindedly, he stroked your face with his other hand.
“This hardly counts as one piece,” you pouted. He managed to kiss away your pout, turning it into a smile. Sighing, you pulled in closer to Kyungsoo. “So, is this what it means to be a mate? Constantly worrying and wondering if you’ll ever come back?”
Kyungsoo shook his head. “No. I swear, it’s not usually this adventurous. The others - minus Jongdae, at least - had a bit more of a smooth sailing. The timing has just been bad. But the others will take care of the hybrids. And things will go back to normal and we can just be.”
You felt the sincere determination in his voice. But you couldn’t help think of the two wolves that attacked you the day you found out about him. When you reminded him of the fight, he shook his head.
“They won’t stick around,” he explained. “Omegas, since they don’t have a pack, are drawn to power and conflict. They could sense the hybrids getting closer and wanted to come in time for the action, even though we drove them off before they could. It’s a very commensalistic relationship.”
Um… “What?”
Kyungsoo laughed. “It’s like barnacles on a whale. The omegas are hoping to benefit, either getting to join a new pack or joining in on the action. Its possible for the omegas to benefit from following the hybrids, but to the hybrids, they’re just flies that hang around. They’ve moved on to somewhere else to be someone else's problem.”
“So,” you gave him a small smile, “we’ll get some peace and quiet here soon?”
“We’ll get all the peace you wa-”
Hoops and hollers from downstairs broke the tranquility. The others had arrived back and in victory, it seemed. Their voiced intermingled to the point of being indistinguishable. The joy of each of them coming back and no longer having to worry about the enemy radiated through the house.
Perhaps, once he was healed up, you could convince Kyungsoo to stay at your apartment for while. As much as you wanted to celebrate the success, the quiet time with your mate was just too tempting to join the others.

Fantastic Four #3 Review
spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers
The first arc of the Fantastic Four relaunch comes to a climatic, star-studded conclusion as every hero who has ever a member of the FF come together to take on the destructive cosmic being known as The Griever, the goddess of entropy and heatdeath. Brought to us from the creative team of Dan Slott, Sara Pichelli, Nico Leon and Marte Gracia. Very quick recap and review following the jump.
So... a whole lot goes down in this issues, and I only have a small window of time to try to summarize it. So apologies in advance if I breeze through it a bit too quickly.
The Griever is a cosmic force, a being on par with the In-Betweener, Galactus and The Living Tribunal: an anthropomorphic embodiment of the galactic constants that govern the universe. Reed seems to understand this right from the get go and as such knows that she cannot be fully defeated. Their best bet is to delay the inevitable and figure some means of escape.
First things first, Reed has Johnny and Ben destroy the Griever’s teleportation device essentially keeping her trapped and preventing her from either escaping or bring in reinforcements.
Of course the others, Medusa and Luke Cage are not exactly enthusiastic over the prospect of being trapped lightyears away from their families. But fear not, the ingenious Reed Richards surely has a plan.
The original foursome gather around for huddle to go over the finer details of what Reed has devised. Which is nice in that we get to see an actual panel where Marvel’s First Family are together and truly reunited. Sue is not going to let it pass without holding on to her younger brother as tightly as she can.
Also, it’s revealed that whist their absence has only seemed to be a year for Ben and Johny, for Reed, Sue and the kids, they’ve actually been going for about half a decade. As such, both Johnny and Ben cannot wait to see the kids.
The various heroes battle the Griever while The Thing and Spider-man try to psych up young Franklin to face off against the villain for round two. Franklin is pretty frightened. He’s powerful as all get out, but the Griever cleaned his clock the first time out and he’s apprehensive to go at it again. Yet Ben and Spidey do a good job of pumping up his confidence.
So imbued, Franklin and The Thing go up against The Griever, Clobberin’ style fashion. They manage to keep her occupied whist the remainder of her teleportation pods are destroyed by the others.
Angered, The Griver sends her monsters to dispatch the Future Foundation kids. But fear not, Medusa, Black Pother, Crystal and AntMan are there to to protect them.
There’s also a quick aside where The Torch asks Iceman what the heck his he doing there. Iceman replies that he has indeed been made a member of The FF, only perhaps at a time that has yet to be told (a story to be illuminated upon at another time). Another aside finds Val coming across The Hulk. Those following ol’ Jade Jaws in the pages of The Immortal Hulk know that green-jeans is not exactly ready to make amends with the hero community, so he asks that Val keep his presence a secret. Always happy to harbor secretive knowledge, Val eagerly agrees.
Well, It isn’t long before The Griever realizes that all save one of her teleportation pods have been destroyed. It forces her to choose between victory or a quick escape to ensure she is not trapped in this strange realm for all of eternity. She chooses to flee, spouting insults at the heroes and promising that this will not be the last they will see of her.
The threat has abated, but now there is the new problem of all these heroes being stuck in this weird realm so far off from home. Yet it isn’t really all that much of a problem. Between Reed, T’Challah and Val, they have all the knowhow and skill to build their own transport device and plenty of raw materials to utilize from the wreckage of the FF jump-ship and The Griever’s various destroyed teleportation pods. They should all be home in short order. T’challah notes looking forward to getting the chance to introduce Val to his similarly ingenious sister, Shuri (yes! make this happen ASAP).
As work gets started on building the heroes’ way home, Ben takes the opportunity to inform Reed and Sue of his engagement to Alicia. They are all overjoyed. Yay!
The threat posed by The Griever is wrapped up rather quickly, but that is just as well in that I was much more interested in seeing the extended Fantastic Four interacting and fighting off bad guys. Pachelli and Leon share art duties and do so in a seamless style. So much is jammed into each page that there is a couple of instances where the character’s facial expressions have to be compressed into rather simplistic lines. Gracia’s color pallet is vibrant, underscoring the manic action without letting us forget all this is going down in some sort of grim cosmic setting.
The story sets that stage rather well in terms of what we have in store for us in this latests iteration of the Fantastic Four. Mr. Slott et al. seems to have planned for us a lot of high concept sci-fi weirdness, but with the family dynamic front and center throughout. And I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
My only complaint of course is the elongated delay between this issue and the two that proceeded it. I don’t have huge problem waiting for good comics, but I also know that delays can be hugely detritus for a book’s health in terms of sales and reader interest. I just want this book to be a success, only because it’ll ensure I get lots and lots more FF books to enjoy. And to this extent I’m frustrated that just two issues in we should see an extended delay. Granted, this is a minor and not story-oriented complaint. Still, after seeing so many truly fantastic Inhuman books fizzle out due to low sales, I’m kind of left extra anxious about such matters.
But whatever, this is a fun, quick tale with great art and lots of long awaited reunions. Definitely recommended. Four out of five Lockjaws!

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Chapter 261 Review
We have finally reached to this point; the end of the road. Erina has already amazed the top 2 Elite 10 members, but they’re not the one to judge, so it does not count. Erina’s dish is finally served in this 2-part judgment process (I think). This chapter is the first to present Erina and her true form of specialty; unleashing her special perk. Having said to be part 1, it’s no doubt we are slowly savoring a magnificent taste of victory.
It’s no secret that Erina stole the battle singlehandedly; arguably the entire arc. She has been on a tremendous momentum and the ride won’t end until she can get the last laugh over azami. The last chapter was so satisfying for her character to evolve, pairing love increased tenfold, and her killing spree keeps on going. This chapter is where she will finally get to claim her rights to live as a sole person and mark the end of her father’s reign.
The tension deepens from the very first page with many characters including the audience, preparing to be amazed by Erina’s specialty. You would think it’s the protagonist that is on stage, about to blow them away, but it’s Erina. Wait, I think I contradicted myself…The moment of truth keeps on building up and Erina never look so alive and confidence with that second page.
Tsukuda is likely aware of the hype because it was purposely stalled further with Azami getting his last words while acting like a father in a rare occasion before meeting his ultimate defeat. It’s all the merrier to hate the guy, trying to ruin the hype. It was strange to see him talking like a caring father, as if he decided to be concern of her. He points out how she was breathing heavily after improvising for 10 minutes. The problem is he’s more concern on the presentation.
Somehow, he deviates from his concern on her health towards the representation of a chef. According to him, if they improvise or try to cook something unusual, it would force them to work so hard; much difficult than what’s already established. He’s not wrong about that, but it’s not as inventive, hence lack of enthusiasm. Because of that, he finds her dish unacceptable. It comes off like a cheap excuse and act like sore loser; however, it actually does play a role and key to his character.
This is like a cooking series’ version of “any last word” moment. Think of a scene of when a character about to do something that will change forever, the other character would plead to do otherwise. Case in point, Azami tried to convince Erina that her dish shall not be served due to health and such; but Erina, the Queen she is, has decided. She will serve and thus, breaking all chains from Azami completely. I have been surprised plenty of times from the last chapter, and yet this one surprised me as well.
The special insert is none other than Furi-freaking-kake!
I forgot to mention in my last review. The part I like about the callback that this series does is how it is done in an appropriate timing that isn’t just nostalgia, but it serves a significant purpose. It’s hilarious that Erina used peanut butter and squid for her dish; however, it’s fascinating how it connects to the main theme of creativity. It was always portrayed as the worst dish imaginable, but Erina made it work. If it can be delicious, then nothing is impossible. It is this series’ version of “anyone can cook.”
In this chapter, it’s the furikake that amazes the judges with its transformation. The detail of how it slowly melts really made it look so good. Saeki went out of his way to zoom in a piece of meat with the cube on top slowly dissolving. There has to be a restaurant for me to try; it’s drool worthy. Decora more or less described my reaction just by looking at it. Finally, the tasting process commences and Azami activates Erina’s trap card. He look awed judging by his eyes. You have done that to yourself.
Surprise, surprise, Decora and Anne got foodgasm, now with tentacle…well, you know what (serious note: is there a better word than that?) Actually, instead of tentacle that wraps around the two judges, it’s the egg sauce or juice that engulfed them. Saeki really spent a lot of time in his early days as Toshi huh. If stripping isn’t the endgame, this could be it. The description of the taste favors towards to creativity because they are awestruck beyond anything. Never would they have imagined that there could be something more than what’s already considered “perfect.”
I do like the full picture of the foodgasm (not the wrapping) where they are once living in a good life with what they already have. Everything changes when Erina attacks. Her specialty is so blessing that the servants of God have arrive to carry them to the heaven heights. It’s a funny, charming, and delighting way to describe the taste in the nutshell. How adorable those little Erinas are; it reminds me of chapter 3 with Soma. Now it brings me to this point: Erina’s specialty.
The thing about her specialty is quite terrifying. She is like jack of all trades and now, she can master of all. Actually, it’s more like polishing or harmonizing for a unique balance. The reason why it’s amazing is because her choices of recipe are what they are considered as: low-class. If she can convert it and make it at least redeemable like with peanut butter and squid, she can make anything delicious like 5-star class; perhaps even more. It’s why the resemblance to Soma’s little servants happened here; it’s the same, only in its master form, at least in her own way.
Her specialty goes against everything Azami believes in. I don’t know if Azami was aware of her specialty to be this, but if so, it would make a lot of sense for his action to be painful that ultimately manipulated her. She has a gift that can influence anyone to cook the way they see fit. It’s like what she believed in: cooking is fun. She pretty much was his enemy from the get-go. If he can enslave her, he can twist it to his favor by converting her God Tongue into “there can only be one way” morale.
Erina completes her development against Azami. The days of his control over her are long gone. This is her farewell. She was the bird in the cage; now flying away towards freedom. She calls it “True Gourmet Flying Away from the Academy: Delinquent Daughter Style.” Looks like Yukihara rub even got to her in naming as well. How they won’t be together will be a war crime of the century.
It’s about time to see Azami losing his cool after everything. He finally reached to the tipping point; no longer put an evil smile to hide his actual feeling. Actually, I do recall him bit his finger after confronting with Alice, humiliated no less. He has bad luck against female Nakiri I suppose. In all seriousness, he does have a flashback that brings the light to why he said those words about “concern” before.
The flashback lasts a page and 1/3 but it’s enough to give you an idea where he established the problem he sought fit to eliminate. Before Jouichirou lost his love with cooking, he was experimenting different recipes with the dish that he won gold prize with. Azami didn’t understand why he tried to change something that is already perfected, but he told him that it fascinated him to see other possibilities such as flavors. It was his belief that Azami believed what got him “damaged.”
Azami was portraying like a killer from a case from Phoenix Wright the video game; nearly about to break and show his true color to everyone. It is filled with angry words that continuously deny anything else but his. It’s no wonder his character acted unusual when Erina was breathing hard. He believed Jouichirou gave up his passion because he tried too hard to find other means and because of testing many recipes, he burnt out. Worn out Erina probably resembles him in his view. That would explain his reaction towards his farewell; like he knew why he left Tootsuki.
It’s not the same with Tsukasa because his problem was to find the upmost perfection, even when he was getting great reception. Tsukasa could be manipulated to find only one path to cooking; that’s why Azami wanted him on his side. The irony is that even if everyone follows the way of one path, they will eventually be burnt out from little to no joy. Probably even at a quicker rate than what he could imagine because reality is it won’t work at all. There’s no escaping from fallout or a perfect solution.
The ending is…interesting. Well, more like the first impression because apparently the series took a dark turn with a bomb explosion. It perplexed the hell out of me that Erina became a complete antagonist. Soma was crying but later raged over her betrayal and said the line, “You traitor!” Okay, none of that happened, but the explosion did and that alone was still strange. Erina must have Plan B to secure her win.
Azami has a shock look in his face; again, another moment of slowly coming to his defeat. Judging by the yelling, it appears that his “blessing” has begun its effect to the audience. I don’t know if it will be a domino effect as in everyone will slowly get stripped away or the shock factor is how his blessing can spread out in far distance. The former is expected by fans, but I wouldn’t mind the latter one as well. Not sure about the explosion part but this is a cooking manga.
I just love how it ends with Erina about to make Azami her pawn. He has been the ruler for far too long; what goes around comes around. Erina can cook an amazing dish that can beyond any expectation. Azami asked for a death flag by announcing his technique to everyone; she would get her point across even stronger. If she can make a Nakiri or in this case her father to cause bursting, making everyone stripped, she can cook a dish with the snap of her finger.
*snaps*
…just like that…
It’s the first part of the thrilling conclusion. It may not end up as a 2-part judgment process, but it is certainly the beginning of the end of Azami’s ambitious plan. The artwork is nice, even with the foodgasm scene. Erina continued to be the most impressive person on Earth with her delighting determination and blissful touch to the dish that is already mouthwatering. It was sublime to see her development coming this far and now, she is about to rule the world. Grant us that win!
