Hello! River or Starling is fine. I used to lean more towards River, but recently, I've been enjoying Starling more. It's because when I was younger, I wanted to give my self op insert a name. I took the name from the game "To The Moon" and then googled old rare last names, causing it to become River Starling! Which words out, because the name keeps accidentally foreshadowing other things I keep adding to that character, or creative writing I give for them.

I had a boost of productivity today! I know it might not be much, but I successfully brushed my teeth, vacuumed, and trimmed my dogs nails today. I recently used a new shampoo and this is only my first time but, it made my hair look a little more wavy than normal. And despite it being a moisturizer type, my hair doesn't feel heavy or dirty yet! I also tried a new chip snack today, too, and it wasn't bad! It's just a plain chip, but the texture is a little puffy but not too much, so it's comforting. ♡

My nephew came over today too. He's rather energetic but he's a good kid and interactions can be rather fun. He chased my cat, Linus, back into my room and closed the door saying "I don't want any cats to be let out" so that was, I never got a direct answer from him as to why.

I woke up and listened to music soon after, so I might be trying that another day to see if it helps make me productive right off the bat. I also am having pizza tomorrow, so it's good!

same thing everyone else does i suppose, that its fun and well made.

to be additive to the discussion instead of just saying positive stuff you've already heard, i'll levy a little critique against it, bearing in mind that i do so with positive, constructive intent.

i feel as though in recent times we've been oversaturated with stories and media with too grand a focus on the characters instead of interesting concepts. i think that the character design in the amazing digital circus is colorful and neat, but in the past 3 years how many "it's cutesy looking, but it's actually about existential terror and the cute characters go through trauma, oh no!" gimmicks have you seen in stories? personally ive seen quite a few.

i feel as though creatives are pushed too much to make a marketable face first and foremost, because lingering eyes are in high demand for artwork online these days. if someone is going to move on quick, which is going to be the case with the majority of people, it's much more likely that someone will find it easier to remember a cool design for a character instead of an entire unique sequence of events. that means story-driven things are either made to be more shallow to give more space for character moments, or have a much smaller chance for having their work succeed.

i do not think this is indicative of some mass decline in creative originality, or even the fault of the creatives who make the work. like i said, i thought it was a lot of fun and gave it a small positive review on twitter a few days ago. Gooseworx, as well as the rest of the team who made it, clearly cared for this project. what im talking about is a symptom of the larger issue that is the black-box algorithms that have desolated social networks, and create bad media consumption habits in people. though i wont lie to you and say i havent grown to resent the symptom too.

so to answer your question more succinctly, i dont really think of it that much at all. ive seen this one already.

Wishing you were plural is often a symptom of plurality. That very much was the case for us. Does that mean you’re plural? Who’s to say, that’s something you have to find out for yourself, I fear. Take a look inwards, and try to see if there’s anything odd.

As to wether plurality is associated with trauma, that ultimately doesn’t matter as far as considerations go.

yes! one of my favorite genres! its almost too massive to narrow down bc that could be anything from ace attorney games to old lucasarts games. but within recent years ive really loved "the case of the obra dinn", "machinarium", "pentiment", and "heaven's vault".

i havent played "the case of the golden idol" or "hypnospace outlaw" yet (I KNOW I KNOW) but ive only heard good things.

ok really hoping someone can help me out with this because its a bit weird. first of all, important data:

ok heres the deal. for most of my life, every time i have walked or stood up for more than 20-30 minutes, my feet hurt. not uncomfortable, PAINFUL. like pressing on a bruise painful. if i walk/stand for more than 3-4 hours its a SHARP pain like blisters, except there are no blisters and none form later (unless my shoes were rubbing or something, which if im wearing my usual trainers they dont)

I always thought this was normal and that everyone just grits their teeth through pain to do fun stuff like go to a zoo or a museum or a theme park. but i told my dad about it recently after a day out and he was like "what the fuck go to a doctor thats not normal my feet only feel uncomfortable right now they dont Hurt"

so i want to know how common this is. does anyone else get this? and what might be causing it?

information that may or may not be significant, just including it in case any of it is relevant to a condition i havent heard of:

i am diagnosed with adhd and working on an autism diagnosis

i am hypermobile (not diagnosed yet but. my neck and arms definitely hyper extend, and ive been able to touch the floor without bending my knees my whole life without stretching regularly, so i know i am)

my hands swell up in extreme temperatures. expecially if im exercising at the same time. i used to have to get other people to do up my shirt buttons after PE in school because i couldnt bend my fingers enough to do them myself

i bruise very easily. my brother likes to poke and prod me to get on my nerves and if he pokes just a little too hard, i bruise. also scratching my leg through my trousers causes me to bruise

i get friction pains on my hands if im doing something like carrying a heavy bag with a cloth handle or opening a tight jar

i have very dry skin and suffered from excema as a child/teenager

i have been looking into EDS and i think i might have hEDS, so idk if any of this is related to that. my dad also thought the foot pain might be an autism sensory issues thing?

if anyone can relate to any of this please tell me about your experiences and what causes it because that would be super helpful

This is so so stupid but I got very happy when I read in your strawpage you are from 2003 too, I've lurking around seeing your art ever since DOL caught my eye and you're one of my favourite artists so having that bit in common is cool! I also love your DOL designs, especially Kylar's and Whitney's but the fave gotta be your PC she's so pretty! Also if you haven't played Fields of Mistria or Homicipher I definitely recommend them! The first one is similar to Stardew Valley in the sense you're a farmer, you can decorate your house and romance any of the bachelors/bachelorettes but this one is more fantasy-like and the artstyle reminds me of 80s anime and Sailor Moon. The second came out recently and I haven't played it yet but I saw the trailer and some fanarts; you wake up in a terrifying unknown world where you have to survive and the romance options are very creepy men, one of the appeals of this one is trying to learn the world's language, it looks fun

hey i love seeing ur posts about comp tf2, do you have any advice for a wannabe sixes medic? ive been watching a lot of recorded games and demo reviews and stuff and it looks like a lot of fun but actually playing a match myself sounds so daunting and scary

hello anon! thanks for asking and im glad that youve thought about playing comp :)

this ended up really long so under the cut it goes

to start with some outside stuff youll need:

a discord account

a mic (or any other audio input device)

mumble (optional)

from what ive seen, the biggest leagues all have discord servers where players can find scrims or teams and teammates (in the case of rgl) but also teams use discord because its a quick, easy and cheep way to keep in touch

now, a league, there are 5 leagues but ive only played in 2 of them as they are region specific, there are:

rgl (NA/north american league)

etf2l (EU/european league)

ozfortress (oceania/australia league)

asiafortress (asian league, site is down rn?)

ugc (international, the old league where it all started)

now the best way to get into comp is probably through a newbie cup, a shorter season for new players with dedicated coaches provided, but the only one that regularly runs is by an NA pug group, speaking of, another good way to start is through pugs! (or mixes if youre in eu) pugs or pick up games or mixes are run either by the league or an independent person, in NA the biggest non-league pug group i know is tf2 coaching central or tf2cc for short, they also run the newbie cup and are based entirely on discord! in EU, mixes are run usually through sites and require mumble, the biggest being tf2center which id say is much more beginner friendly and hosts more formats than the other site, tf2pickup.eu where you can only play 6s and will usually find players that have been playing since season 2 (etf2l is on season 47)

also! every friday (if there are enough people) there are newbie mixes! basically a mix/pug with a coach, i havent personally played but ive heard its good

now if you find a league that works for you, heres some settings that youll need:

enable developer console

this will allow you to open the developer console, this is a nifty little thing because it allows you to do all kinds of crap, for example, connecting to a specific server if you have the connect info, which is very important in comp, you can change the button that opens the console at the very bottom of the settings

thats how the dev console looks like, heres how to find it:

change your fov to 90

this can be either done in the settings or by putting fov_desired 90 into the console, 90 is the max you can set it to in the settings but if you want more fov then feel free to change this to something else like 130 for example. this is done because the default tf2 fov doesnt let you see as much as 90 and having that information is crucial, especially for medic

now for the actually medic specific stuff

in the advanced settings there are two key things you need to turn on, 1) keep healing even when not pressing the fire key and 2) autocall for medic if below 99% health

the first one is a no brainer, youre gonna be healing constantly for 2 hours or more if you play a season as medic and your fingers will cramp up if you just keep holding down mouse1 so this ones for that

the second one is a bit odd, why autocall? well it might help you find spies or find your way back to your team if you get lost without having to comm it out, it also shows you if a teammate got damaged very recently because of the small cross above their head, this is important because then it will take more time to heal them up

uber masking

when you are about to hit 100% ubercharge, press E, and the "medic!" voiceline is gonna override the very loud and very obvious "I AM FULLY CHARGED" voiceline, tldr: you dont want the other team to know that you have uber

uber counting

the average stock uber can be built in 40-50 seconds, at the start of the round your ubers are the same but they will get offset as the game goes on, when the enemy medic spawns count in your head to 40 or watch the clock for 40 seconds and at the end of that 40 seconds they will have uber

uber related callouts:

"we have ad" (=we have more uber than them)

"we have disad" (=we have less uber than them)

"they have" (=they have uber, be cautious)

"we have" (=we have uber, yay!)

"its even/equal" (=the ubers are the same)

"med dropped!" (=the other medic dropped uber, you now have a lot of ad, you will hear this from your teammates)

"he got a saw on me" (=their medic is running ubersaw and just hit me, they have 25 more uber)

"use" (=pop it)

"use on me/use on [class]" (=use uber on a specific person or class, usually scout or demo)

"big ad/disad" (=the difference between our ubers is big, around 50% difference)

"small ad/disad" (=the difference between our ubers is small, anywhere from 20% to 5% difference)

thats a lot of callouts but dont fear, youll get a hang of it soon :)

the ideal loadout

crusaders crossbow

stock medigun

solemn vow

i did mention the ubersaw but its use is much more niche and works the best when the enemy team is shit, the solemn vow also lets you see the enemy medics uber if you see him but dont use this as a crutch and also call out enemy health ("demo is 50!" and then your flank scout game ends him), ill go over the weapons now

crusaders crossbow

the weapon with most skill, it allows you to heal your team at large distances, your teammates will usually say "arrow me" or "arrow me [location]" and then you shoot them and heal em up, the crusaders crossbow is also used in rollouts a lot, process and gullywash for example both require you to arrow someone mid rollout, i have a few aim training maps linked in my other medic tips post which also, funny enough, have a clip of how comms usually sound so thats cool

stock medigun

other than the kritzkrieg, the stock is the only medigun allowed in standard 6s, its the most consistent medigun and also makes you invincible for 8 seconds, you mentioned watching demos of other players and usually when they do a push into a point they uber the demo so that he can jump in unharmed, then the scout to go fast and the back on demo because hes the 2nd most important class here (the 1st is you!! so dont die!!)

honorary kritz mention

in lower divs, kritz isnt usually played, its an element of surprise weapon and it takes 32 seconds to get uber but 32 is an awkward number so we usually just count to 30 and use the 2 seconds to run :)

the kritz is much more widely used in highlander but ive seen some great playes with it in 6s too

some medigun strats before we move onto melee:

building uber with a boston basher scout

your scout is your escort now, random encounters lied to you, medics do, in fact, heal scouts

give your players a buff (overheal) when youre in spawn and waiting to move, its needed for rollouts in most cases, heal order is usually demo -> roamer -> demo again -> psolly

you need to heal as much as you can, this is a race to get uber

players will come up to you and ask for buffs, its usually soldiers and they will usually jump away shortly after

the ubersaw and the head

the solemn vow is a much better choice of melee then the ubersaw simply due to the fact that you can see enemy health and uber, but i cant deny that the ubersaw saved my ass a few times, still, use the head

now thats the weapons, lets get onto the more interpersonal relationships between teammates

the general playerbase of comp is sweaty gamer cishet guys but ive found that many of them are cool (despite the reputation of sweaty gamer cishet guys) and they are cool especially in rgl

heres some tips,

keep your tumblr private from your team

they dont know the lore of tf2 and 9 times out of 10 dont really care for it

just keep the discussion to comp

many of them are down to play casual or even valve comp if you ask

feel free to ask for tips! they love giving tips!

you will be judged for being a medic player but in a joking matter (they dont usually like playing medic so theyre glad that someone else is lol)

they will show you cool shit (usually clips of airshots)

tf2 comp players are a bit edgy at times, sometimes people just say slurs but not the n word with a hard R or anything (ps. you can report people if they say a slur mid game in chat)

a lot of the time they are gonna tell it to you straight, if youre bad then they will tell you youre bad at xy and z and if you dont improve then they will just call you open (<- lowest division in etf2l/derogatory term for anyone who isnt in open)

in a team you have the team leader who schedules everything and runs this team and talks to the admins, maybe a co-tl who helps with team leader stuff, the main roster which is just the players who play most often, the subs who substitute the main roster when someone cant make it but you still want to play and lastly the ringers(NA term)/mercs(EU term) who are outsiders you call in if your pscout just called in sick and the pscout sub is on vacation and you really need a player

classes

its at the bottom because i forgot about it lol?

6s has 2 soldiers, 2 scouts, a demo and a medic

they are split into the flank and the combo, the combo is with the medic and the flank is not

demo:

you will need to heal this guy a lot, he takes a lot of damage and gives out a lot of damage, he can trap down an area or spam down a choke, will be with you in most of your ubers, make sure this guy is buffed

pocket scout:

the scout in the combo, your escort and personal bodyguard (kinda), hes gonna build with you, pick you up from spawn when you die and is most likely gonna be the maincaller (=person who calls the shots in a comp match like when to retreat and what not)

pocket soldier:

in all honesty idfk what this guy does, he wants heals and watches chokes, spams rockets down chokes too, sacs for med (=jumps on the medic and kills them hopefully)

flank scout:

watches flanks, wants heals, can replace your pscout if he dies, will offclass if need be (offclassing is the act of switching your class to a different one that isnt standard in 6s like sniper or heavy)

roamer (flank soldier):

i also dont know what the fuck the roamer does, its basically the same as psolly but he watches flanks and offlcasses and has a different rollout

post game

so after you play your first game of comp, write ".ss" into the chat, this will open a window with your logs for that match and you can see how you did that game! if you want you can also download the demo from demos.tf if you look up your steam name it should show up, there are other sites where you can see how you did like more.tf which is a nicer looking site and also you can compare specific players and see more stuff so thats cool! theres also trends.tf where you can see how you did over time and basically every stat you can think of even down to the time youve spent playing a class in comp, heres my overview on trends.tf if you wanna see all that it shows (ps. most of my recent games are 4v4 because of a cup lol)

last thing before the end, i did make a post about medic tips a while ago and those apply here as well

I’m someone who left my religion which is Pentecostal Christianity because of my sexuality. But I find it super cool when people are curious about religion and their ideas, but don’t necessarily support it either. Could you tell why you like to explore religion in general? nah but fr though i just find history in general to be fascinating and religion is well, religion. shit happens when there’s a higher power or something to be gained in the afterlife cause of said higher power.

like i only recently found out despite being an ex-hypereligious muslim myself is that the reason why a lot of radical people in the religion(emphasis on radical!!!) tend to be violent is cause dying for the cause is like a free ticket to heaven. so when they do stuff like su*c*de b*mb*ng, to them it doesn’t matter how many people die if it’s for the sake of islam…

(I’m not saying it’s universal to all of muslims hecc i just said i didnt know about this, just that in some cases and especially impressionable youth they’re told that if they die for the religion they’ll be granted a place in heaven)

What's got your financial situation so shitty?

ill answer this publicly just in case anyone also sees my Cry Posts and wonders why i make them so often:

im disabled and cant work, but the process to get on disability takes for fucking ever. my dad is on ssdi and gets a little over 1200 a month to live off. 700 of that goes to rent, the rest to bills. we don't even have cable tv or anything like that cause we simply cannot afford it. it used to not be so bad when i was 18 and under because the state gave me 500 a month but im 27, its not been like that for a long time now, and they dont give me anything. nothing for foodshare. i'm on a thing called FA but they pay me 180 dollars every two weeks. thats 360 a month which is fucking nothing.

i have a disorder called POTS, its one of my biggest physical problems (along with GERD, RLS, and neuropathic pain in my shoulders, legs, and hips; i think i have sciatica. i think i probably also have IBS or some kind of internal stomach and digestive issue), and its very difficult to treat. afaik there are no surgeries or medication you can really do to treat it. its something that can happen to anyone and usually "triggers" from another illness, in my case i got an ear infection after my dad got an ear infection. i was 16 and then my life completely changed lmao.

you would think having this somewhat rare autoimmune disorder would make it easier to get on disability but nope. for years they would not let me apply online (i dont know why) and we have no vehicle so i couldnt get down to the office to apply. finally this year it let me apply online, but that was in june and i still havent heard anything back. now that they have my info on record it wont be as hard to re-apply but its still going to take a while bc only recently did a specialist who handles POTS move to my area. before the nearest specialist was 3 hours away and im not joking

but anyway. its the cost of living paired with our extremely low income. we get 200 dollars a month for two people for food, so 100 for me and 100 for my dad, which is not enough in the current climate to survive in.

ive contacted food pantries and sought out opportunities that could help both me and my dad but most places require transportation of some sort and we don't have a car. it broke down where fixing it would cost too much so we had no choice but to get rid of it.

so basically what i usually end up needing help with is food. groceries cost so much money and we still dont have enough to eat by the end of the month. the price of groceries has gone up dramatically where the amount of income my dad and i get hasnt gone up at all

Hi! Bothering you again with unwanted opinions and questions.

#1- I know it's not cool to say after the whole Armie Hammer affair, but I really like "Call me by your name", I don't find it creepy, and I think Hammer did a great job in it. Sure, he looks older than 24 as the character is supposed to be, but he acted the part well.

#2- Did you watch "The Return"? I did, and boy oh boy the things I do for the actors I love. Loving Fiennes and Kenzari, I watched it yesterday; imho it was boring, overtly descriptive, and I'm really sorry to say this but Kenzari only had ONE expression during the whole movie. Considering his microacting in TOG, I almost couldn't believe he was the same actor.

The only thing I appreciated, as a small act of patriotism, was the screentime Santamaria got in the movie.

disappointing abt mr kenzari's performance tho im not nearly as familiar with his work as i Should be (working on it) but i was so excited for marwan kenzari antinous :( oh well. the world goes on hollywood keeps making movies. maybe we still have any other night or maybe we don't i haven't checked on how that's doing in a while

On Call Me By Your Name: i know in the abstract abt the armie hammer thing i just choose not to think about it. he's pretty good in the movie. i didn't realise he was only supposed to be 24 though i thought he was like. 30.

the creepiness aspect is an interesting one to think abt!!! the reason i watched it was a) class and b) like, all of the annoying film people i know have been watching/rewatching recently, so you know, wanted to join in. almost none of them ever talk about that aspect of it, but it was also the first thing i learned about the movie as an impressionable teenager on tumblr. interesting case study.

BUT, i think it's one of those things where different people are always gonna have varying degrees of comfort with stuff, and this is probably one of them. can't speak for the book because i haven't read it, but the movie is less about their relationship than it is about elio figuring himself and his sexuality out, in a few different ways (marzia plays a major part in this too!). and some of that happens to be through his relationship with oliver. which you can side eye if you want. but in the context of the movie it's more of a narrative device to explore the idea of discovering your sexuality, growing up, changing, and also the impermanence of relationships, romantic or otherwise, that felt like they changed your life at 17. which is compelling as all hell!!!! besides elio is such a good character. he COULD have been really annoying, but chalamet is a hell of a performer, and i was warned abt one specific shot at the very end by someone else's review but if i hadn't been it probably wouldve given me a Fucjing Heart Attack.

did i find it particularly romantic? no not really i spent a lot of time side-eyeing oliver particularly hard. but did i find it interesting? absolutely. i have to hand this one to guadagnino it's a good movie . which very much snuck up on me with the emotional intensity. i did not relate personally to like, 90% of it for asexual reasons, but like i said the idea of changing etc was resonant. the MOST relatable part for me, however, was olivers reaction to love my way by the psychedelic furs. i also feel that way about love my way by the psychedelic furs
