i have the urge to write a Derry Girls aftg AU. Like, Andrew Neil and Kevin are the girls and Aaron is James. I just think it’d be really funny for Aaron to be the wee English fella even though Neil is technically the wee English fella and Aaron and Andrew are both American. I dunno?? I’ve been rewatching the show and I absolutely love it so I might just take the premise of it and add it to aftg? But also I kinda think it’d be funny if Kevin had a Derry accent??? Cause I think that’s funny?? Like imagine???
I don’t even know if I’ll write this but it’s been on my mind for a while so. yeah.

there's nothing like binging Derry Girls and one minute I'm minding my own business and the next I'm being even slightly inconvenienced and Clare Devlin is in my head yelling "oh my GOD" all of my thoughts are in the accent ffs

Cut together all the scenes of Anthony Boyle as David Donnelly in "Derry Girls" cause I'm hyperfixated on those measly two minutes 🤘😔
It's very choppy, I know

Eddies Maine accent only really comes out when he’s mad. So Richie tries to rile him up as much as possible because he thinks it’s really cute.

HATE when people talk about characters having an accent but they think people from that country only have one accent like yes american character #1278 has a completely individual accent from all the others but this irish character has a "gaelic accent" whatever the fuck that means

I'm watching Derry Girls right now and I'm just constantly thinking about Hozier singing in that accent...
I just can't stop thinking about it

I'm not a sub purist by any means, but I can't bring myself to take a peek at the Gundam 00 dub, because I know that I'm going to have to listen to Lockon Stratos, and I know full well the dub is never going to give him a thick Derry accent like he absolutely deserves.

met my friends irish boyfriend last night and he bullied us into doing Irish accents (one of our other friends does it all the time and her accent is truly terrible) and apparently when I try it I have a very specifically derry accent and I just KNOW it’s from my severe 17-year-old overconsumption of Derry girls and I don’t know how to cope with it really 😭😭😭

I’m chatty again!
So, any time I binge watch a series my inner voice picks up the predominant accent spoken on the show, no I never considered myself normal, hahaha. It has changed from Brummie to Australian depending on what I’m feeling in the past.
At the moment, I sound Northern Irish thanks to a day-long binge of Derry Girls. Fuck, or should I say, Feck, I love that show!!
What’s something you do or pick up on after watching a show/movie you really love??! I’d love to know.

People liked it in a TikTok comment I made from that "I just love being a woman" sound so I'm going to say it here too.
I feel a connection to femininity through what I like to call "ancestral femininity". The feeling of womanhood coming from the thousands of women before me. Things that make me personally feel closer to them like putting a basket on my hip, braiding hair, gossiping, washing things by hand, picking herbs, gathering wood, running my fingers raw from sewing, baking, helping another person feel pretty, wrapping a shawl around my shoulders, etc. (also in the warm months, laying out in the rain naked in the middle of the night lol.)
Of course I don't want to imply any tradfem or terf bullshit. Femininity can be anything if it makes you feel feminine. And obviously a lot of it ties back to traditional gender roles but for me it's beyond that. I'm thinking of the fact that thousands of women in my line have carried something on their hip before me and a thousand will do it after me.
Anyways, if you relate I'd love to know ways that make you feel the feelings of ancestral femininity. Through words or images. Whether it's just a general sense, a part of your culture, or reminds you of strong women/presences in your life 💞
