The Prophecy - Paul Lahote
I've never written angst before so this was me giving a shot at it, please be nice lol
-------------
Please…change the prophecy
You felt your heart shatter as you stood outside of Emily's cabin.
The joy that was radiating off the man that you were so in love with was causing you physical pain. How could he be so happy?
Until a few hours ago you had been in a three-year relationship. You had never felt more loved than when you were with your boy. He promised you so much, marriage, a big house with a white picket fence, and children. Since your third date, you have been planning your future together.
Everyone told you that you were moving too fast. But you didn't listen because you didn't care. Paul was the one for you and you were the one for him.
When he phased for the first time two years into your relationship he had been terrified to tell you. Wanting to keep it a secret until Sam told him what could happen if he didn't. So one night Paul reluctantly brought himself to your house, snuck into your bedroom so your parents wouldn't wake, and told you. He laid all his cards out on the table.
And while you had initially laughed in his face he begged for you to believe him. Which you only did once he snuck you out of your house and took you to where Emily's cabin sat tucked away in the thick of the reservation. She and Sam had watched as Paul urged you to stand back. Working himself up to phase.
You had fallen flat on your ass, tears springing almost instantly as you looked around unable to pick your jaw up. Paul had huffed for a few seconds, making himself look as big as possible to emphasize his point before he lowered himself down, lying flat and lowering his ears.
From that day on you felt a small sense of pride. You were someone that Paul trusted enough and loved enough to tell his deepest darkest secret. The fact that your relationship had reached the point where the two of you were open books with each other warmed your heart and made you fall in love with him all over again.
That was until Jacob opened his big fat mouth.
You had been sitting at the counter in Emily’s kitchen rolling the chocolate chip cookie dough into little balls and placing them on the cookie sheet. She was bouncing around the kitchen focusing not just on getting the cookies baked but also finishing up on the sandwiches she was making for lunch and starting the roast that was to be eaten for dinner.
This had become a routine for the two of you since you had graduated high school. You didn't have a post-grad plan but you knew for sure it certainly didn't involve going away to school. The idea of even leaving Forks drove you mad. Why would you want to leave a place of perfection?
So while the two of you made light small talk and listened to the wind chimes that were knocking around with the soft breeze you worked on your respective tasks. When the various sets of stomping bare feet came up the porch and the screen door was thrown open neither of you even looked up, completely unphased by the rambunctious pack of teenage boys.
Paul had rushed over to where you sat and placed a quick peck to your temple as he swiped a ball of cookie dough, turning around and eating before you could swat his hand away.
“Paul Lahote”, you screeched rolling your eyes as he just smirked, reaching out to grab another. This time you hand stopped him and were able to fight it off. Once he realized that you were not budging he gave in and pulled you into his arms.
He had turned the two of you so you were facing the kitchen table where Emily had just placed the first platter of sandwiches down. It had been a few months since Paul had let you in on the pack secret and since then it had grown from the awkward two-man pack that was him and Sam to them and several other members of the tribe. You knew them all having grown up in the small community and you were happy to see Paul secretly get excited each time one of his new brothers phased for the first time.
The boys had turned into feral animals like they always did around mealtime. Food was flying around the table as they all stuffed their faces as if Emily had not fed them breakfast just hours before. Your laugh was quiet and you leaned into Paul attempting to absorb his warmth thanking your lucky stars that you had chosen to eat before the boys got back so you didn't have to fight the wild beasts off to get a chance at eating lunch.
To be honest you weren't even really paying attention. As soon as Paul's body heat started to warm your bones you tuned out the chaos of the kitchen, that was until you heard Jacobs's unnaturally loud voice cut through the air.
“Sam thank god you imprinted on Em, I don't know what we’d do without her '', his comment was meant to be light and funny. And for everyone else it was, the rest of the boys at the table laughed, shelling out their agreement towards the statement. But you felt Paul stiffen at Jacob's words.
You lifted your head and were met with his now hardened expression. A small part of you didn't want to know why, what Jacob meant by Sam imprinting on Emily, and why that caused Paul's mood to shift. But a bigger part of you wanted to know.
“Paul what does that mean, imprinting?”.
Your words caused everyone to shut up. You had tried to be quiet but it was no match for their enhanced hearing. Instantly an awkward air settled over the normally happy kitchen. None of the boys moved a muscle, except to turn slightly in their chairs to throw dirty glances at Jacob, who looked incredibly guilty.
“Paul I'm not gonna ask again, what the hell did Jacob mean?”, you had pushed yourself out of his embrace, putting some distance between your two bodies. His face was unreadable but his body language displayed how upset he was. But it wasn't anger, which was what you expected to see, no he seemed genuinely upset.
Slowly he crossed the room reaching where you now stood by the front door and walked slightly past you holding the front door open while gesturing for you to follow. You allowed him to lead you to the set of beautiful handmade rocking chairs that sat on the creaky front porch.
It was then after he spent several minutes with his head in his hands that he explained to you what it meant for a quileute to imprint. The whole spiel on how this person becomes their whole world, no matter what the imprint wants the imprinter will dedicate their life to their imprint.
And when you asked the hard question, the one that you in the back of your mind knew the answer to but were too scared to ask because you knew it was about to change everything, you watched as life drained from his eyes.
“No”.
He hadn't imprinted on you.
That meant that no matter how much he loved you there was someone out there that he was going to love more when the time came. No matter how much he assured you that he would fight the connection because you were the love of his life and how the bond could still snap because it wasn't an exact science, you still felt a heavy presence settle in your chest.
Dread.
You were dreading the day that your boy was taken from you.
The day that it became a reality that you were going to get your perfect house or perfect family weighed heavily on your mind.
Paul had assured you that he wanted to stay in a relationship with you. Downright got on his knees and begged when you suggested that you should leave then, make it a no-hard-feelings split.
“Paul, it's not meant to be '', you cried as you watched him hold back his sobs.
“No baby please stay, I am begging you. I can not lose you, please”.
-----------
You made it work after that day.
Tried to ignore that nagging feeling of impending doom whenever your relationship got brought up.
But you watched as some of the other boys found their imprints and how their lives changed, becoming exactly what Paul had described.
So you knew that as much as Paul believed he would be able to fight back his instinctual need to put his imprint first when he did find her you knew that that wasn't going to be the case.
But no matter how much you tried to prepare yourself when the day came and you received the text you shattered.
I don't know how to do this. It doesn't feel fair to you to call or come over to tell you this but I’m sorry. Last night…the bond snapped with Rachel Black. She’s back in town from being with her aunts and I ran into her at the store. I’m so sorry, thank you for the past three years. I will never regret loving you.
The scream that had left you was guttural as you collapsed onto the floor. Tears were pouring out of your eyes as you clutched your heart.
You felt so stupid, wasting these past few months begging an invisible higher power for you to be Paul's person. Begging to please change what prophecy was written in the stars, so that Paul would continue loving you forever.
Your wails could no doubt be heard from outside of the house but it didn't matter. Not at this moment.
Hours were spent laying on your bedroom floor, trying to collect yourself. Eventually, you did enough to pull yourself up. You had no clue what you were doing. You knew that you shouldn't be getting in the truck and driving the familiar drive to a place that felt like a second home but you had to see him.
In your time wallowing on the floor of your bedroom you had decided that you weren't going to let him get away with this, flush three years down the drain in a text message. He owed you a face-to-face conversation.
Panic didn't start coursing through your veins until you had a moment of clarity and realized what you were doing. You didn't want to look crazy but you needed this. You needed to look him in the eyes and have him tell you that he wasn't in love with you anymore.
But as you opened your car door and made your way off the creaking steps of the front porch you stopped as your blood ran cold.
The curtains were pulled back from the front windows which gave you a perfect view of the kitchen. And you saw how happy everyone looked. There were various different bowls and plates of snacks lying on the table and the kitchen counter. Chairs had been found throughout the house to fit everyone at the table as they were playing what looked like an intense game of spoons. Their laughter was so loud you could hear it from outside and your heart swelled as you longed to be in there, having fun and laughing with your friends.
But the longing stopped when you saw him. How his arm was thrown around the back of her chair holding her close, his head thrown back as he howled with laughter.
He looked like for the first time in a long time, maybe even ever he was happy. Had you ever made him this happy?
You had been proud of yourself for keeping your composure but once you saw him bring her close and press a chaste kiss to the top of her head your knees buckled and you dropped to the ground.
Air was rushing out of your lungs and not returning as it became obvious coming over here was a mistake, you had been right there was no way Paul was going to be able to fight the bond he had with Rachel. But that didn't stop you from looking up at the sky blinking rapidly to keep the tears at bay as you whispered,
“Please”.

INLAND EMPIRE [Challenging success] - In a small studio flat on the outskirts of the GRIH, Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi is curled on his side, eyes shut and glasses threatening to spill from his face. The handset of his phone is trapped between the arm of the sofa and his head. He has one arm curled over his stomach with the other supporting his neck. He breathes gently through his open mouth and he is, indeed, asleep.
From ch1 of Imprinting @thegrimreaperisanerd again, soft little bit from the very end.

Wildest dreams, pt. 28
Tumblr media
Summary: Paul's gone. While the search for him is ongoing, Y/N is back home, awaiting his return.
Warnings: angst, fluff, sexual innuendos, swearing, talking about death, mental health issues and suicide
Wildest Dreams Masterlist
————————————
Tucking her legs under her, Y/N stares out the window. It’s been unusually cold lately, the skies turning darker with each passing day. The clouds are getting lower, spreading among the trees surrounding her home. Whenever autumn comes knocking, Y/N welcomes the rainy days and moody weather with both arms. She didn’t detest the cold as she once did, because Paul would always hold her a little bit closer. He’d often kiss her until they both struggled to keep their hands to each other and she had to beg for mercy before they were both late for work. It’s not like he’d kiss her any less in the summer, it’s just that he’s aware his warmth in already warm days is harder for Y/N’s body to handle. It’s why he’d give her space from time to time. Y/N hated that. That’s why she’d turn down the AC to freezing cold temperatures all the time just so she could enjoy Paul’s cuddles more.
She misses his cuddles now.
It’s been five days since Paul went out of the Cullen’s house and shifted into a wolf. When he’d lose his temper, Paul would be back by nightfall and Y/N never needed to worry. This felt different. Jacob didn’t tell her much at first, trying to sugarcoat what they’d discovered, but she wasn’t letting up. She could never let up when Paul was involved.
“You need to hear it from him, not me,” Jacob sighs.
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Y/N frowns deeply. “I don’t know what’s happening, but I know I feel that his heart is shattered and I -”, she pauses as a sob threatens to escape her. “I never feel his emotions unless they’re at an extreme and his pain is suffocating me right now.”
“It’s a deeply personal thing I can’t imagine Paul would want you to talk to us about.”
Chuckling dryly, she points a finger at Jacob’s chest. “You have no idea what he or I would want. You weren’t here when we were building this relationship from the ground up! You weren’t here as we grew up and you sure as hell weren’t here when we learned each other’s hearts by heart! So don’t tell me what he would or wouldn’t want, because I know what he wants, and that is me! And if he is in this state because he believes he’s done something that will take me away from him, I need to know what the fuck it is so I can convince him it isn’t his fault and that–,“ belting over she lets a shuddered breath pass her lips. Clutching her chest, Y/N’s knees hit the ground with a loud sob echoing throughout the room. Jacob’s quick to wrap his arms around her, looking at Edward in distress.
“She’s overwhelmed”, Edward explains before glancing at Jasper, who seems devastated by the constant waves of pure anguish coming off of Y/N.
In the blink of an eye, Jasper is beside Y/N, his hand running up and down her back as she gasps for breath. All the pain and confusion coursing through her blood is nearly enough to make anyone insane. Even Jasper is barely holding it together as he takes some of her pain, replacing the tsunami of negative emotions with a sense of tranquility.
It doesn’t take long for Y/N’s breathing to return to normal, but her tears don’t dry. Jasper can manipulate her emotions, but he can’t trick her body into forgetting everything.
“Just tell me,” she pleads. “I need to know how to bring him back home.”
“He’s found out you’d possess a rare ability if you were to join our family,” Carlisle answers, and her eyes find him immediately. “One that the Volturi would never allow to exist. That means they’d kill you if you were to change.”
Wiping her tears with the back of her hand, she furrows her eyebrows. “Then I won’t shift and it won’t be a problem.”
“Aro will know,” Alice chimes in. “He can read every thought anyone’s ever had just by touch. He’d find out about you. Even as a human, you’d be a threat. The potential you carry is enough for him to act.”
Letting out a heavy breath, Y/N shakes her head. “How do you even know I might have this power?”
“We asked a member of our extended family to visit,” Alice replies. “We didn’t want to take risks when it came to you. A Quileute imprint.”
“And if you didn’t? If he never told you what potential I carry? If we never even mentioned the possibility of me being part of your family?”
“You’d have never gone through what Paul saw the day he imprinted on you.”
“A self-actualizing prophesy,” Y/N nods. “Is it really as bad as it seems?” Y/N asks Alice. “Paul has always seemed traumatized by it, but he’s my imprint. Is it really a horrid way to die?”
For the first time, Y/N noticed emotions in the Cullens. The Cullens' stony faces are difficult to read by humans, but Y/N can no longer ignore the emotions she notices in them. It’s on all their faces–compassion and pity most of all.
“Okay then”, Y/N forces a small smile as she uses Jacob’s shoulders to help herself stand. Jasper doesn’t hesitate, holding her up as she stumbles during her attempt.
“We need to find my fiancé,” Y/N purses her lips. “Jacob,” she sighs. “Please find him and bring him back to me.”
“I will do my best,” he promises. “But it’s not easy when we get into this headspace. It once took me an entire summer to return to my human form.”
Nodding, she swallows thickly. “Tell him I need him. Tell him I love him and I don’t care about anything other than spending the rest of my life with him. I want to get married and I want us to live every single day to the fullest.”
“I’ll gather the rest of the pack still willing to shift,” Jacob pecks her forehead. “We can cover more ground and drag him back if necessary.”
As Jacob walks toward the door, he’s stopped as her fingers coil around his pinky finger–the only part of him she could reach as he all but ran to fulfill his promise.
“Don’t let him see me breaking down. He can’t ever know.”
Ever since, Y/N waited for her soulmate to return to her. Embry, Quill, and Seth joined Jacob in their search the very first night. Sam and his eldest son waited for Leah and her husband, Owen, to come from Port Angeles before joining the very next day.
Emily would visit with her youngest every morning. Y/N’d have her dad over for lunch, but it didn’t help distract her as much. The greatest thing Sam has ever done for her was give her and Paul his blessing to clue her father in. She didn’t tell him she was marked for certain death. It would kill him to know, but he knows enough to be aware her life is in danger. She told him Paul’s off with the pack trying to hunt down a rogue cold one, protecting the tribe. Kim and Jared would come over every other night for dinner. Y/N imagines it’s because they feel guilty about Jared’s lack of involvement in the search for Paul. He’s not shifted in so long, the human part of him is much stronger than the wolf. Y/N supposes they didn’t want to halt his aging now when they finally seem to look the same age. She can’t take it to heart. Perhaps she’d hate if Paul shifted after a decade too.
Claire and her wife visited on the second day. She’s never been too close to Claire as she and Andrea live far, about a five-hour drive in one direction. They mostly see each other for holidays, but Y/N appreciated her visiting very much. Catching up with them put her mind at ease for a few hours, long enough to maintain some semblance of sanity.
Renesmee showed up with Bella for a few hours on the third day, bringing loads of chocolates Edward knew Y/N liked. Apparently, he’s joined the search earlier that day with Emmett and Rosalie.
The only ones who never left her home were Daisy and Jasper. It would likely drive Embry crazy if he knew his imprint had been sitting beside a vampire this entire time, especially when that vampire was Jasper. He’s apparently less stable with his diet compared to others in his family, but Y/N likes it when he’s close by. If it weren’t for him micromanaging her emotions whenever they threatened to kill her, Y/N would have lost herself. Alice came and went, unable to handle the smell of wolves for too long. The smell of several wolves mixed together is much worse than Jacob's scent, she said.
“He’s going to come back”, Daisy hands her a cup of warm tea. It’s nothing compared to holding Paul’s hand, but if she closes her eyes for a few minutes, she can pretend he’s there, safe with her.
Daisy sits with her, feeling her loss. Embry’s never been away this long before. She can’t imagine how hard it must be for Y/N when she can’t even be sure Paul is alright when she can feel he’s in pain. At least Embry isn’t in danger and he isn’t heartbroken to the point of being stuck in his wolf form. He’ll definitely come back home. Paul might not. She doesn’t say that openly, but she carries that worry. Meeting Y/N was scary as hell, especially with how highly Embry used to talk about her. She knows they had a mutual crush on each other when they were younger, but it never seemed to work for them. Embry told her he didn’t want to mess up his friendship with Jacob, who was evidently in love with Y/N, but he also didn’t want to risk losing Y/N as a friend. It was easier to admire her from a distance.
It’s not like Daisy is insecure about her relationship with Embry now, but before she knew what imprinting was, it did cross her mind that Y/N might be competition. She only found out about imprints when Embry spilled the beans about Paul imprinting on Y/N when she first came back to town. He wasn’t aware she was close enough to hear him and the way he mocked Paul for it, but she heard it. It wasn’t hard making the connection about their own situation. Smiling, she remembers how stupid his face looked when she called him her imprint in bed that night. He nearly choked on his own saliva before she kissed him harder than ever before. She wishes he was with her to kiss him harder than that. Jared didn’t shift and leave Kim, so why did Embry? Shaking her head, she puts those thoughts away. Y/N is a close friend, possibly her closest friend, and she’s definitely Embry’s favorite person aside from herself. This is a small sacrifice for someone they both care about.
Jasper watches the two girls from the couch. He can sense the quickly shifting emotions in Daisy every day, but none of them are malicious. It’s evident she simply misses her husband. Y/N is a hurricane compared to Daisy. She’s impossible to predict and the devastation her emotions can cause is incredibly difficult to contain. He’s never truly delved much into imprint connections, perhaps because Jacob and Renesmee had a simple relationship. Renesmee didn’t pay him much attention until she ended things with her high school boyfriend. After graduation, that’s when she decided she wanted him…selfishly so. She never quite unlatched from him. Renesmee was more or less obsessed with him, jealous of Y/N’s friendship with him, but she was never in any pain regarding Jacob. As for the wolf side of the relationship, Jacob just wanted to protect her and make her happy. He didn’t necessarily love her the way Renesmee loved him, but he wouldn’t ever break her heart, even though his own wasn’t whole. Jasper always knew Jacob loved someone else and despite the imprinting tying him to his niece, Jacob never forgot the one he wanted truly. Seeing Jacob and Y/N in the same room revealed everything to him — he wanted what he could never have. And now he’s off, making sure Y/N can have some form of a happy ending as if she won’t die soon.
Never before did Jasper care much about humans, knowing they’re around only for a brief part of his immortal life. Very few did he care to befriend and, for some reason, Y/N felt like a person he wanted to be around. She didn’t make him thirsty, it’s her heart that speaks to him. So many people walk around hiding their true feelings, but she feels everything so clearly and she refuses to pretend otherwise. It’s rare to find someone like that. He has observed her mainly depressed in the time he's known her, but he wonders about the potential of being around her when she's truly happy.? He could get drunk on candid joyfulness Y/N is capable of feeling. Perhaps he’s going to be invited to the wedding when Paul returns. She’ll certainly be cheerful on that day and he has to know the other side of this despair. He can't believe that he cannot replace this pit of aching with ecstasy and serenity.
Alice finds him unreasonable for staying with Y/N inside the house she shares with Paul, but he can’t bring himself to leave yet. Not before she’s reunited with her fiancé. Leaving now is like playing with destiny. She deserves the relief he’s cautiously giving her, making sure she can feel her emotions without allowing them to cross the borders of what she can safely handle. Y/N needs him, even if others do not agree. Until Paul walks over the threshold of this house, Jasper will not leave. Y/N doesn’t demand it either. He can feel she’s grateful for his presence, for taking the edge off the very sharp knife her emotions tend to become.
So he stays, watching over the girls as the lighting tears apart the sky.
“What would happen if I were to join your family and Aro was,” Y/N pauses as she turns to look at Jasper, who seemed rather surprised she was talking about it. “Well, if he was eliminated, would it really be such a problem for me? For your family?”
Staring at Jasper, Y/N watches as his lips spread in a thin line and then into a genuine smile. She’s definitely gone mad. “You’d want to take on the Volturi?”
“I want to take on Aro,” she corrects. “If he was alone, he’d be easier to eliminate.”
“To kill, you mean,” Jasper states.
Shaking her head, she places the empty teacup down. “I understand the chances of it are minimal, but say I accept to be one of you and I get this magical power of making vampires human… Can’t I make him human?”
“Would he, like, just become a vampire again?” Daisy asks.
Jasper rubs his chin. The more time he spends around her, Y/N swears he does these little gestures for her benefit, something to take away from the ungodly beauty he possesses, to make him seem more human.
It's impossible to turn them into vampires after they have been cured. However, the rest of them would know. The entire army would be ready to dismember us to get to you.”
“Not if he disappears,” Y/N tries. “We could hold him hostage until he dies a human death.”
“That’s dark”, Daisy notes.
“It’s nothing compared to what he’s been doing for much longer than you’ve been alive,” Jasper argues. “He deserves far worse.”
“Could it work?” Y/N asks as Jasper’s phone lights up. “Alice?” The hope in her voice is so easily detectable that it makes Jasper almost frown when he sees it’s a message from Edward.
We found Paul.
“No. Edward says they found Paul.”
“Are they coming home?” Y/N jumps, running toward Jasper. “Call him, call him!”
Smiling as her hope brings alive the butterflies in his stomach, Jasper dials his brother immediately.
“Kind of hard to talk now”, Edward grunts as a loud growl sounds.
“I’m with Y/N. You’re on speaker.”
“Where is he”, Y/N grabs Jasper’s wrist, bringing her lips closer to the phone. “Is he okay?”
“Canada”, Edward sighs as the growling grows louder.
“Is that him?!” she exclaims. “Paul Lahote, you stop that right now!”
On command, the growls turn into whimpers and she can’t help the way her chin trembles with the pained sound leaving her fiancé.
“Come home,” she says softly. “I know you believe you put me in this situation, but that’s not true.” Sniffling, she pauses as if to wonder if saying it in front of everyone is unwise. It doesn’t take long for her to decide, choosing to prioritize Paul over her vulnerability. “If you and I never fell in love, I’d have been dead a long time ago. Paul, I came back home for a few months to tie up loose ends.”
Glancing at Daisy who stood by her, Y/N swallows thickly. “I was struggling with anxiety and depression. And I didn’t feel like I had anyone in this world other than my dad. I just…I was in therapy, but it didn’t really feel like it was working. The meds never really helped either. I was just so…so lonely.”
“Y/N”, Daisy rests a hand on her shoulder as a show of support.
“I was planning on taking my life and then you showed up in that forest with your stupid smile and gorgeous eyes and suddenly I had one more mystery to solve.” Smiling meekly, Y/N sighs. “Before long, I was falling in love with you and my friends returned to me and in that time, I started falling in love with life again. You saved my life, Paul Lahote, and I hate how cheesy that sounds, but you did. And whatever time I got now is still a lot longer than it would have been if we never met.”
Biting her lower lip, she closes her eyes. “You made me happier than I believed was possible. I love you and I want to marry you. I want to marry you and become your wife as we planned. Come back to me so we can enjoy this time we have left.”
“I will.”
She recognizes Paul’s voice immediately.
“I’ll be home soon. We’ll do whatever you want.” His voice is shaky, imbued with heavy emotions he’s attempting to keep under control.
Smiling, she nods. “A beach wedding would have been great, but the weather might not agree.”
“I’ll make sure it agrees,” Paul sniffles.
“Where we had our first date?”
“Sounds perfect!”
Neither spoke for a few moments. Each breath seems to hang in the air, heavy with unspoken thoughts. It’s the kind of silence that carries weight, a palpable tension that both parties are acutely aware of but hesitate to break. Y/N inhales sharply as Paul breaks the silence.
“I love you too.”
“I know”, she replies quietly.
“With all my heart.”
“I believe you.”
“I’ll see you soon,” Paul promises.
Nodding, she holds her breath as tears rush to her eyes. She can’t let Paul hear her crying. He’s carrying far too much guilt already and her tears shouldn’t be part of the load. Swallowing the growing lump at the back of her throat, she replies sweetly, her tone laced with all the love she wants to give him.
“I’ll hold you to that.”

A/N: No clue why Tumblr is being a bitch today, I don't even know if the tags are working because it doesn't let me do my usual thing, so if you're on the tag list, please let me know if you got a notification or not. On a side note, I've had the worst stomach bug since Friday, so forgive me for the grammar, I beg for leniency. As usual, anyone wanting to be tagged can comment on the post, just make sure your blog visibility settings are on and that your blog hasn’t been flagged (blurry pfp is usually your clue that you have been flagged) as those are most common reasons why tumblr won’t let you be tagged. Also keep in mind changing your @ might mean you lose your tag since Tumblr acts like your blog no longer exists due to the change.

“Shhh.” Amelia shushed her little sister Evelyn as she tip-toed down the staircase leading to the foyer. Both girls stopped before the last step, hiding behind the wall which separated them from their expected guest—well their parents expected guests.
Amelia and Evelyn were the two daughters of head of the north American coven. Well, their mother was head of the coven, their father was Fae; a simple mythical creature known mainly for their connection with nature and healing magic. It was common for Fae and witches to mingle amongst one another, as witches channeled the powers of nature for their spells and potions; much like the Fae. Procreation between the two species was a special rarity, most Fae never made romantic or sexual connections as there was no real need. You see, Fae is not made through conventional means.
If you’ve ever been out in nature, in a secluded spot where it almost seems untouched by humanity, you feel the sudden sense of calmness rushing over you. The sun seems to illuminate the world around you in a blanket of warmth and bliss, and it feels as if in that moment everything is perfect; that means a Fae was probably just born near you. The Fae believes that mother nature carefully crafts each and every Fae, their bodies created from the earth itself, and then she releases them to live their lives and protect her earth. Other species have different theories on how the Fae came to be, but no one can say with complete certainty.
This seeming species wide asexuality is why it causes everyone a shock when a Fae bares a child physically, and to do so with not only a witch but one of the most powerful witches in existence? The leader of the North American Coven? Now that creates two very interesting girls.
Amelia Boleyn is an 18-year-old halfling, those halves being part witch and Fae. She stands on the shorter side, just under 5’3—however if anyone ever called her anything less than 5’3 she’d make sure to put them in their place. She cropped her hair just above her shoulders with some rusty kitchen scissors during a slightly tipsy night she shared with her sister. Her skin was naturally on the tanner side, resembling her father’s coloring of curly dark hair and tan skin, more so than her mother’s red hair, pale skin, and green eyes. She came into her powers when she was 13 years of age, although she showed much promise with her witchcraft already being a fourth level spell caster. She much preferred dabbling in the simple powers of her father, a stereotypical daddy’s girl. She would much rather go out into the woods, lay in a field, and connect with nature rather than sit at home and stare at old grimoires.
Her sister Evelyn, however, is the opposite. She is 16 and also a halfling, her skin only a shade or two darker than her mothers, she also had her mother’s straight auburn hair and sparkling green eyes. She was also one who could spend hours sitting in her room, reading her ancestors grimoires and attempting to learn to cast new and more advanced spells, already dabbling the same level as her older sisters, but severely struggling with any Fae related magic.
The two girls are very possibly going to become two of the strongest women alive, and here they were huddled together behind a flimsy wooden wall, straining to eavesdrop on their parents’ conversation. Amelia and Evelyn both shared worried looks as they heard multiple heavy footsteps walking into the house. Their father Aeon had told them of the recent killings of magic folk in the area, forbidding them from going out alone even for the most insignificant of tasks. Whoever was responsible for the killings was targeting young adults and teens, and although they have yet to kill a Fae child or witch child, the matter needed to be dealt with.
As far as anyone could tell, going off the bodies of the victims, the killer was a vampire. Incredibly fast, and efficient killers, but not known to go after other supernatural’s. Something was brewing, and Jenny and Aeon Boleyn had made the decision to call in the only supernatural’s who were properly equipped to deal with a vampire, wolf shifters.
Amelia and Evelyn were fascinated when their father explained who was coming, and why they had to keep their distance. The northwestern shifters were notorious for being big, burly brutes with wicked tempers. Tales of the smallest disagreement turning into massive fights involving clashing canines spread like wildfire when they seemingly reappeared a few years back after being presumed extinct. To the girls, however, this made them a group of very fascinating subjects to poke and prod at—youthful stupidity mixed with curiosity.
Amelia leaned closer to the edge of doorway as she heard a somehow quiet, yet booming voice start to speak. “Aeon it’s been too long.” A small pause filled with the sound of scuffing shoes and a door closing, “I only wish this meeting was under better circumstances.” The same voice spoke again, sounding sympathetic.
“It’s so nice to see you, Sam.” Their mother’s sweet voice greeted, “It’s so nice to see all of you. Though, I do see a few new faces. Please everyone come inside and sit down I’m sure your journey has been very tiring.” Multiple deep voices muttered hellos, and then heavy footsteps followed the woman into the small living room.
Most of the men opted to sit on the grown, allowing Sam their pack alpha to sit on the couch with Jen and Aeon. They all trusted Sam when he said the couple could be trusted, perhaps it was the wolf in them that made them skeptical of the unknown but regardless of the reason, no one but Sam wanted to be too close to the two.
The two girls waited on the stairs for a few minutes, trying to strain and hear what was being said, but all they could pick up on was the low mumbling of conversation. “You think we should try to get closer?” Evelyn whispered into her older sister’s ear, her heart thrumming quickly with excitement.
Amelia considered for a moment, weighing if the risk of getting caught was worth satiating her curiosity, in the end the latter won. “Yes, but don’t make any noise. I so do not want to hear the lecture from mom and dad if they catch us snooping.”
Unbeknownst to the pair, the shifters had exceptional hearing and all of them had picked up on the quiet encounter a few yards away. Sam simply ignored the two girls, seeing no real threat in them eavesdropping, Quill, Embry, Seth, Collin, Brady, and Paul all shared sly smirks to one another—not so subtly glancing at the small door way as gentle and slow footstep inched forward.
“You should take a peek—see what they look like! “Evelyn urged faintly, Nudging her sister with her arm. “Why me? So, I’m the one who gets caught?” Amelia shot a pointed glare towards her younger, yet taller sister. “Yes! Now look, Mom said werewolves were usually all ruggedly handsome! Maybe the same applies for shifters.” Evelyn had a wicked smirk on her mouth as she envisioned a group of big burly men fresh for the pickings waiting in her living room—those teenage hormones surging through her body at the prospect.
“That’s gross, Eve.” Amelia sighed, rolling her eyes, “But I’ll do it… not because you said they were hot though.” The two sisters shared a mischievous look together, before Amelia crouched down to knee level and carefully leaned past the doorway, bracing herself on the wall so as not to fall and peering into the living room.
A not so silent profanity left her lips as her eyes met six other pairs of eyes looking directly back at her. In her shock her grip slipped on the door frame, and she tumbled into full view of everyone—including her parents. Evelyn silently died of laughter still hidden behind the wall, before quickly making her escape back up the stairs, abandoning her sister to the wolves.
“Uh—Hi!” Amelia chirper, looking around at the men in her living room, very purposely not making eye contact with her parents. “I just… uhm” Evelyn quickly looked around the floor around her, a somewhat stupid plan popping her head, but hell it was her only idea. She reached forward and grabbed a lost pen from the floor and held it up swinging it in the air. “Was just lookin for this!” As her eyes travelled back up to the unknown men, the pen almost fell from her hands.
Amelia thought it was just due to the surprise of meeting eyes with—in her opinion—the most attractive man in the room. Paul, however, felt as if he was cemented in his place, sitting on an old Abrash rug in a run-down but quaint little cottage, looking into a pair of beautiful dark eyes. A gentle click in his brain, and he knew what this feeling was, this feeling as if he had just taken off a filter from his eyes and he was finally seeing clearly. Her confused face tempting him to come closer, and to never leave. His imprint.
Everyone but Amelia could feel the shift in the air, Jen Boleyn silently screaming in her head as it dawned on her. Her precious eldest daughter being imprinted upon by a shifter? A breed who was made to kill and slaughter their enemies without a moment of remorse, she opened her mouth to speak but no words would leave her lips.
Amelia looked around at all the shocked and speechless faces, assuming this was caused solely by her interruption, her face reddened, and she quickly stood up, ignoring the slight ache in her hips where she landed. “I’m just going to go, it was nice—uh—meeting all of you!” She smiled before quickly making her exit and running up the stairs.
Amelia threw herself into her room and hopped up onto her bed. She knew she was in for it but she silently prayed to mother nature that her parents wouldn’t be too pissed about the interruption—a pointless prayer and she knew it. Remaining under her covers she shimmied off her jeans and bra and turned over towards her window. Listening to the now significantly louder voices downstairs speak and watching the pale blue clouds pass by the full moon outside. She laid there for what felt like hours, but in reality, was only thirty minutes, waiting for her parents’ lecture to come—but it never did. Instead, she was slowly lulled into one of the deepest slumbers she had in a very long time, strangely plagued by the sight of those deep brown eyes of one of the very handsome but strange young man.

ᴛʜᴇ ᴋɪꜱꜱ - ᴊᴀᴄᴏʙ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ
Requested by: @mwizzle42
Warnings: none I believe.
(This scene will be a bit different)
Tumblr media
Y/N was running around the woods since she has been seeing Edward's presence, She never knew why or how if she wasn't even close with him.! It confused her a lot when he left and she started seeing his figure follow her around. She saw that it only followed her when she was going to do something reckless.. so here she was going to cliff dive, the pack had always told her it's fun yet dangerous if not done right but she couldn't care less.
There she found herself at the cliff but there was someone else there..? Y/N took a few steps forward and saw that it was Bella, "strange" she thought to herself, Y/N then saw Bella jump and her eyes widened
"is this hoe crazy.?!" Y/N'S mind was going 100 miles per hour and without no thought she jumped in after her and before she did she saw Edward's figure telling her "Don't do this", Y/N then looked at the figure "Nuh uh I'm doing it.! You don't control what I do." Yes Y/N probably looked crazy talking to a figure who she saw but probably wasn't there.
Right then and there Y/N jumped off...
Y/N then fell into the aggressive body of water and she resurfaced and saw Bella struggling to keep her head up because she got knocked down a big wave, Y/N then swam to her and yelled out "Yo I got you.!" Y/N then grabbed onto her arm trying to swim them out, Then a huge wave came and pushed the two of them underwater and because Bella was panicking she accidentally pushed herself and Y/N against a rock hitting their heads.
Everything went dark and only bubbles left her body..
Y/N started to regain consciousness as she felt oxygen in her body, she then turned her body to the side and coughed up water, she then heard someone's voice
"shit.! You had me worried N/N I thought you died on me.!!" Jacob then cupped her cheeks while speaking to her he was relieved she was still alive. Y/N then croaked out “Sorry..” Jacob then looked at her with empathy “It’s ok no need to be sorry” Jacob then took her in his arms carrying her in bridal style as Bella who was much better than Y/N’S physical state just followed behind the two to Jacob’s truck.
Jacob drove Y/N and Bella to Emily’s and Jacob helped Y/N walk inside Emily’s house and helped her sit down at the table, the three of them then greeted Emily, “what happened to you two?” There was a hint of worry in Emily’s voice, Y/N was about to speak when she got cut-off by Bella “I jumped off a cliff and then I saw Y/N follow behind me” Emily then sighed “you girls are drenched let me get you some spare clothes.
As Emily left to get clothes there was howls of laughter the pack came back from patrol, when they boys entered the house Sam obviously went to go look for his imprint and then Embry saw Y/N “yooo what happened to you and vampire girl?” Y/N then smiled at Embry “This girl thought it was a bright idea to jump off a cliff and my dumbass thought it was a great idea to go after her” Y/N said laughing a little.
The boys then went to the living room and kept talking and playing around, Emily then came with two spare jeans and a two long sleeve shirts and then the two girls went to go change.
Jacob, Y/N and Bella stayed at Emily’s for a while and ate at Emily’s place because come on? Who doesn’t love Emily’s cooking, After a little it was dark outside and then Jacob and the two girls said there farewells and walked to Jacob’s truck to head home, Jacob was in the drivers seat and Y/N was in the middle and Bella was beside Y/N having the window seat, Y/N spaced out the whole car ride to Bella’s house Y/N would shiver here and there and placed her hands under her shirt for warmth, Jacob took notice and wrapped his arm around her shoulder since his abnormal warm body warmed Y/N up quickly.
During the car ride Y/N fell asleep on Jacob’s shoulder and she abruptly got woken up by Jacob and Bella arguing, Y/N then felt Jacob’s warm body leave her side and she sighed seeing he was chasing her like always, Y/N then saw Carlisle’s car and she was surprised since supposedly to Bella the Cullen’s had left and she grew depressed over that, Y/N then saw and heard how Jacob told Bella about him not being able to protect her.
Shivering Y/N got out the car and pulled on his shoulder “Jake.. let her go it’s obvious she’s not going to listen to you.” Jacob then looked at Y/N “No.! I have to get her away from those leeches as fast as I can.!” Y/N then sighed getting a bit annoyed “Jacob you can’t help it.! She’s in love with them.! Have you not noticed? Just let her go Jacob and if she’s the one for you then you would’ve imprinted by now.!” Jacob then looked at Y/N dumbfounded and sort of saddened.
Y/N just huffed in annoyance as she started walking to her house since it was probably only a 20 minute walk, Jacob was torn between going after Y/N or Bella and after a few seconds of wondering he ran after Y/N, Jacob then got in his truck and drove to were Y/N was walking he then put his window down “Wait Y/N I’m sorry please let me take you home…” Y/N then stopped to think about it and then she got in his truck.
Y/N was mad at herself for giving in so easily but there she was in the passenger seat of his truck, Jacob then cleared his throat “I’m sorry” Y/N then furrowed her eyebrows “for what?” Jacob then put his arm around her waist pulling her closer to him “for being blind” Y/N then turned her head to look at his face not realizing he had stopped since they got to her house, “Jake what do you mean I’m like hella confused” Jake then sighed.
Jacob then faced her the two of them really close to each other “I was blind Y/N I was to focused on Bella and I didn’t worry about you that much so I’m sorry for not paying attention to you much” Y/N then blinked multiple times while staring into his eyes, she then looked down to her hand when he grabbed it “Y/N I’ll always be here for you I’ll never leave your side ever again..” Y/N then gave him a soft smile and unconsciously they both leaned in closing the gap between them and their lips met each other.
Jacob then cupped her cheek and Y/N had her hand on the back of his head as they kissed softly and passionately the kiss was full of love until they got interrupted by a knock on his car window and it was Y/N’S mom, Y/N then pulled away sheepishly and kissed his cheek and said her farewells and as her mom dragged her away she smiled at him and waved as he sat in his truck and drove away…
Jacob was whipped and so was she….</3

The Strange Encounter Pt. 2
Part two of The Strange Encounter, I hope you enjoy. Sorry that this isn't the best writing lol. I am struggling to figure out dialogue but I will continue to work on it :) Thank you <3
Summary: You recently moved back to Forks after not being in the town since you were eight. When your old friend Jacob Black asks you to come to a party down at La Push you accept. What's the worst that could happen?
Tumblr media
"Y/N, I have to tell you something," Emrby said looking at you nervously. You look up at him seeing the determined but shaky look in his eyes, you sit down on the rock motioning him to join you. He sits down and stares at the ocean for a minute and you follow suit, after a long gaze he begins to speak "I don't think you were around long enough to hear the stories of our tribe" he says glancing at you and you give him a nod to signify that he's correct. He continues " We grew up with stories of our tribe, the warriors, the heroes, the loves, and for most of our life we believed them to be just that....stories" he sighs deeply before speaking again " But there is one story that we heard the most growing up, the story of the pale skins and the Quileute wolves" he keeps looking at your face nervously while talking, analyzing, seeing if he's said too much "The story goes that the Quileutes were descendent from wolves, yes real wolves, and that there was another "tribe" that was like an enemy clan" you look up at him understanding that he was telling you this for a reason but feeling very confused as to why "why are you telling me all this Embry?" you stare at him showing him that you are interested "Because it's all true Y/N, I am a werewolf and so is Jacob," he says finally. Your face goes from concern to shock in a matter of seconds "W..what?" he takes your hand and puts it to his chest "Do you feel how hot I am? I don't have a fever, I will always have this temperature. It never goes down" he lets go of your hand but it lingers for another second "You're being serious?" you say a little exasperated "I still down understand why you're telling me" you emphasize. He looks at you and then at the stars "There is another part of the story, werewolves have a mate called an imprint, that person is what ties them to the earth, they give the wolf meaning, they can be a lover, a friend, or just a protector. No matter the relationship the connection will always stay.." he looks back down at you with pure affection and attention "You are my imprint Y/N" You sit there completely frozen, and your mind starts racing, Embry and Jacob are werewolves, does that mean they all are? is that why he ran away? did he not want it to be me? what am I even supposed to say or do? holy shit this is confusing, he takes your hand again "The decision is completely up to you and what you decide, I understand this is a lot and we barely know each other but if you give me a chance I'd love to get to know you" Embry says gently. You stand up causing Embry to drop your hand he looks at you concerned like you are about to run away "I think I need time, this is all just too much" you say with a worried expression scared of how he will take it "I understand take as much time as you need" he says with a small smile but you can tell he's hurt. He stays seated and you start to walk away before you turn your head back to look at him one more time.
It's been two weeks since that night. You've spent these two weeks going through everything in your head over and over again. You have accepted that you are an imprint and that this is all real. Jacob has called you nonstop this past week, trying to get you to talk to him. You don't understand why he wants you to talk to him considering he's not the one who imprinted on you. His texts seem urgent but you've ignored every single one, needing to clear your mind and get away from everything for a while. You haven't even gone to work with your mom. Your parents are starting to get concerned, you haven't been eating much and rarely come out of your room. You're lucky school hasn't started for you yet. Embry hasn't called or texted once, you didn't give him your number but you figured Jacob would have. You have this ache in your chest and you don't know what it is, it's like a part of you is missing. You've never felt this way, all you want to do is lay in bed. You've wanted to text Jacob to ask for Embry's number too many times to count. You even thought about going to find Embry, you feel like you're going crazy missing him and you only had one conversation with him. Maybe this is a part of the connection you think to yourself.
As you sit on your bed reading you get a text message.
Jacob: Y/N it's about embry. Please answer the phone.
Y/N: What about Embry?
Jacob: I think it's best you see it in person. We're at Emily's.
When you get to Emily's you see Jacob waiting outside. You walk up to the porch and Jacob ushers you inside without a word. "What's going on Jake? is Embry okay?" you ask with a worried tone. Jacob still doesn't say anything and continues to walk through the house, you pass the pack, they're all staring at you with slightly concerned looks on their faces. You get to Embry's room and Jacob opens the door, when you see Embry your stomach drops at his appearance, he looks pale; unusual for his dark features, and he has dark circles around his eyes as if he hadn't slept for days. His head shoots up when he realizes you are at the door he says your name but it comes out raspy and weak "What happened Embry, are you sick?" you walk closer to him and take his hand resting next to him on the bed. "I forgot to mention a key part of the imprint bond," he says voice still sounding weak "We can't be apart from our imprints for too long, or else we get very sick and weak" You look at him and grip his hand tighter "Why didn't you tell me, you should've asked Jacob for my number," you say in a slightly scolding tone you hear a laugh from behind you "Oh please, you wouldn't answer your phone for two weeks," Jacob said in an annoyed tone. He wasn't wrong but you still turned around and rolled your eyes at him "If you would've started with, Hey Y/N come quick Embry is sick and it's your fault, I would have been here sooner" you said snarkly. You looked at Embry seeing he was already starting to get back to his normal self. "Yeah, yeah whatever," Jacob said sarcastically as he left the room. "I'm so sorry I didn't know this would happen, I promise you'll never have to go through this again," you say genuinely. Embry just looked at you smiling, it didn't matter to him how sick and weak he was feeling, all that mattered to him was that you were here now. "I've thought about this a lot, I want to get to know you Embry, I'm really glad to be your imprint," you said smiling. Embry looked between your eyes with a huge grin on his face "Y/N" he said taking your face between his hands and bringing his face closer to yours "Can I kiss you?" you nodded your head, and his lips touched yours, at first softly and then both of you sunk into it. The kiss felt like fireworks, like the two of you were starving and the other was a michellen meal. You kissed until you couldn't breathe and when you finally separated you both just looked at each other and you knew everything had fallen perfectly into place.

Friendship Bracelets - Paul Lahote x Reader
Hearing the engine of the rusty orange truck cut caused you to stir from your place on the couch. Your homework was sprawled all across the living room, the static of the TV crackling as it was in between channels.
You were slightly annoyed that your sister was home cause that meant that her beau was in tow and you'd have to witness the awkward love the two of them shared.
“Bella why don't you just listen to me”, your sister's boyfriend argued. Great, they were having their hourly argument. These happened so often because your sister was one of the most stubborn people you've ever met.
“Edward drop it. I'm doing it and you can't tell me otherwise”, your sister shot back.
“Bella I said no”, he downright yelled.
They crashed into the kitchen and you could see how they were both physically angry and neither wanted to back down from their standpoint of whatever the hell they were talking about.
“You don't get to make my decisions for me”, Bella screamed.
“It's not safe for you to go alone Bella, and I obviously can't go”, Edward yelled.,
By now you were leaning against the doorframe observing the lovers quarrel, holding back laughter. You had to watch them go through this every day, except this time Edward seemed to be holding his ground even more, so it had to be serious. Normally he just gave in to your quarrelsome sister but not this time.
Bella looked around completely baffled that somebody wasn't just giving her the green light to do whatever she wanted to do. As she looked around exasperated she spotted you listening in on the conversation and her eyes sparkled.
“I won't go alone”, she proudly declared.
“Hmm”, Edward hummed in question.
“Y/N’s going with me”, Bella stated.
“Absolutely not, I’m not letting you drag me into this”, you yelled suddenly less amused.
“Bella just dropped it”, Edward stated clearly not enthused by Bella’s response.
“Y/N just do this for me please”, Bella pleaded.
She looked up at you with pleading eyes. Clearly, this was important to her. And no matter how much she pissed you off, you enjoy pissing Edward off even more.
“Yeah Eddy boy I guess I’m going with good ole Bells to…where the hell are we going Bella?”, you asked.
“La Push”
---------------------
The truck rattled down the gravel driveway as your sister drove you to the undisclosed location that apparently meant so much to her.
Pulling to a stop in front of a wooden cabin in the middle of the woods you couldn't help but admire its beauty. Though the house itself was worn down in front of it barrels full of flowers and homemade raised flower beds were littered around.
“Stay in the car”, your sister nonchalantly said.
“Umm no”, you argued back.
“I shouldn't be long, half an hour tops' ', was all she had to say.
“Bella, I'm not letting you leave me here for thirty minutes. I’m helping you out by coming with you. I agreed to go with you with whatever you were doing, not to stay in the car”, you retorted.
“Fine, just be careful and try to be quiet”, she sighed.
“Whatever weirdo”, you answered.
As the doors of the truck slammed shut and both of you hopped out the front door to the cabin two tanned-skinned boys came barreling out, both wanting to be the first to talk to Bella.
“Bella is that you”, one of the boys called out.
“Dude you know it's her don't be weird”, the other replied, shoving his friend nearly to the ground.
Bella just laughed and nodded for you to follow her, the both of you stopping right in front of the two shirtless boys.
“Who's the girl Bella?”, boy number one asked as he eyed you up and down, clearly suspicious.
“This is my younger sister, I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned her a few times, or at least Jacob has”, Bella answered.
“Umm I’m Y/N”, you said shyly, granting them a small wave. As much as you didn't want to be you were intimidated by the two boys, something about their presence, maybe it was the way they were standing was almost animalistic.
“Jared," the boy said.
“Quil”, the other spoke.
“Great, now that introductions are done, can we go in? I came to talk to Jacob and he said to meet him here”, Bella asked.
“Yeah, everyone’s inside we were just heading out to go run the perimeter…hey!”, Jared was cut off by a smack from Quil who looked at him as if he had three heads.
The strange cadence to their voices through you off and how quick Quill was to cut Jared off downright made you nervous, but you weren't going to say anything. You didn't want to be rude.
Bella mumbled for you to follow her, which you did. Trudging up the old wooden steps you glanced around your sister's body to glance through the small glass window next to the front door.
Inside around a large circular wooden table sat more tanned skin boys, all with their shirts off. They were laughing and shoving each other while eating what looked like pumpkin bread. You were able to recognize Jacob, even though he looked different from the last time you saw him. You could also see a girl, she had a large scar that covered a portion of her face and she was standing in the kitchen mixing a bowl of batter.
Without hesitation, Bella rapped her knuckles against the wooden door, clearly impatient that it didn't open within the first five seconds.
Still looking through the window you could see all the faces turn to look towards your direction. As quickly as you could you moved to hide behind your sister, embarrassed that you had been spotted.
“Bella it's good to see you”, the girl with the bowl of batter said as she opened the door, one of the shirtless boys protective watching from over her shoulder.
“You too Emily, Sam”, Bella added nodding to the guy standing behind the girl, who you now knew as Emily.
“And this must be your little sister, Y/N right”, Emily asked, her eyes shining bright.
“Yeah”, you breathed out still on edge.
“Well, it's nice to finally meet you Y/N. You, ladies, need to come inside, it's freezing out there”, Emily ushered, opening the door wider and pushing Sam out of the way. He gave you a half smile and a nod as if he could sense that you were nervous.
Bella barged in like she owned the place and went straight towards the table of boys, all of them amused at her presence not bothering to really give you a good look.
“Jacob”, she barked.
Jacob looked up from where he was sitting to roll his eyes at Bella's neediness. After they had a mini staring contest he looked beyond so he could see you. Sending you a cheesy grin he shot up and out of his seat. Rushing over to you and scooping you into his arms, spinning you around,
“Little Y/N. You’re all grown up”, he said laughing. After holding onto you for a few more seconds he let your feet return to the earth again before keeping you an arm's length away so he could get a good look at you.
Your back faced the dining room table and Jacob smiled as he saw truly how much you had grown up.
“It's been six or seven years. How long have you been back?”, he asked.
“Like three weeks. Been trying to get acclimated back to Forks after all these years”, you told him.
“Well, I’m glad you're back now, even though I am a little annoyed that Bella and Charlie have been keeping you all to themselves for these past few weeks. And before I go off to see whatever the hell it is your sister wants to drag me into, I'll introduce you to these idiots right here”, Jacob told you.
You turned around so you were facing the table. You could see a couple of the boys were now looking at you and the rest were semi-focused on the pumpkin bread they were eating.
“This here is Embry, Seth, Brady, and Collin. And you’ve already met Sam and Emily. And I assume Jared and Quil introduced themselves on their way out. All you are missing is Leah who is not here right now and Paul who should be here in a little bit”
You said hi to everyone and accepted the seat that Jacob offered you and a slice of pumpkin bread from Emily. After being assured by your sister and Jacob that they would be right back, you agreed to wait and hang out with your new friends, or people you hoped were going to be your new friends.
------------------
You had no idea how much time had passed since your sister and Jacob had been gone but you didn't really care.
This was the most amount of fun you had experienced in months. The boys had convinced you to play a card game with them once a girl, whom you were introduced to as Leah, came over. They had even got Sam to play with you guys and it was a total blast. Cards were flying everywhere every time one of the boys lost a hand. Emily had been watching from the kitchen giggling every time an insult was thrown at her fiance.
“God dammit. This game is so freaking stupid”, Embry exclaimed after he was the very apparent loser of the last round. As he slammed his cards against the table and everyone laughed at his tantrum the front door was pushed open and three more people entered laughing at their own conversation.
Looking to see what was going on you smiled at your sister and Jacob noticing that they had the third with them. You were pleased to see that Bella looked less agitated than she had before they left and Jacob looked intact.
“Oh hey Y/n that's Paul”, Seth said, nodding to the third person with your sister and Jacob after they started to make their way toward the dining room table. Turning your head to face the illusive Paul you were startled.
He stood there next to Jacob and when the two of you locked eyes you saw every ounce of oxygen leave his body all at once. He looked shocked and extremely pleased and scared all at once.
It was overwhelming and you had no idea what was happening. But you were smart enough to know that it was something.
Nobody said anything in the passing moments and there was so much tension in the room it began to get too hard to breathe. You looked between Paul, Jacob, and your sister, too afraid to speak. Your eyes begging them for an explanation. Jared opened his mouth as if he was going to say something but a hand clamped down on his shoulder shut him up before anything happened.
“Everyone out…NOW”, Sam growled. As lightning came and went, almost everyone was out of the house. All that was left was yourself, Sam, Paul, your sister, and Jacob. Emily didn't leave the house but she did excuse herself upstairs to go busy with something other than baking. “Paul”, Sam was the one to speak again.
You were still perched on the dining room chair, your hands holding your knees that were curled against you.
You watch as Sam gives the three left still standing a look causing Jacob to pull Bella towards the barstools that rested under the kitchen counter, and surprisingly she didn't put up a fight like she normally does.
That left Paul, having not moved an inch since whatever it was that happened between the two of you.
Sam moved towards Paul and he moved his hand onto Paul's shoulder giving him a nod and a slight push in your direction. Jacob then whispered something to Bella, which caused her to stand up from her barstool and throw her hands up, her mouth opening to have a freakout. But Jacob harshly shrugged her down and clamped a hand over her mouth so nothing could come out. You almost lost it over her defeated look, but you refrained since the situation seemed grave.
“Paul, would you rather do this alone?”Sam broke the silence.
“Umm yeah, why don't we head out back. I’m gonna send everyone in. But we’re gonna stay close just in case, um you know”, Paul stammered.
Paul moved towards the back door but backtracked so he was standing to the side of you. He held out his hand towards you. Every ounce of you was screaming internally telling you to not take it and run. But there was a small part of you, a point zero, zero one percent of you told you to trust him. And even though that percentage was so small the idea was echoed throughout.
So slowly you reached out, accepting his invitation and letting him softly pull you out of the chair. You could tell that once your hand was in his he relaxed. He found enough confidence to even twirl a bracelet you wore on your wrist so that he could get a better look at it.
Weaving through Emily’s house you looked over your shoulder and saw Jacob's mouth that you were going to be okay, and Bella was fuming but that was usual for her so you didn't think twice.
Paul opened up the back door for you letting you out first, but not letting go of your hand. The group that had once occupied the kitchen table was now kicking a soccer ball around and chatting. But the conversation stopped once Paul's steps squeaked the wooden floorboards of the porch.
Smirks were placed on their faces but were immediately wiped off once Paul literally growled at them, which sent shivers down your spine.
The soccer ball was quickly abandoned and they all rushed by and back into Emily’s house, but not before they could send a few teasing remarks toward Paul, which caused him to huff and puff a bit. But he quickly got over it once he looked towards you.
He pulled you towards a set of lawn furniture that looked like it had seen better days that rested on the wrap-around porch.
Once you sat down on the couch you once again pulled your legs against your chest. It was a mental way of creating a boundary between you and Paul that you weren't even doing consciously.
Once he was next to you his hands found yours yet again. You were somewhat calmed by the sudden warmth that he gave off.
“Y/I need to tell you something”, Paul finally said.
“Yeah I figured as such”, you said slightly laughing trying to bring humor in to break up the tension. Paul met your laughter as he twisted your bracelet around some more.
“So obviously something happened”, he drawled.
“Yeah”
“Do you want me to be blunt or sugarcoat it”, he asked.
“Be blunt”, you answered.
“OK well umm. There's no easy way to put this but you see well. My tribe, the Quileutes, we’re special. Some of us have a special gene that makes us different”
“You’re sugarcoating it”, you interrupted.
“I'm sorry, fine. The gene makes us shifters. We shift into wolves. I’m a werewolf”
“Be so for real right now”, you answered, absolutely breaking out into laughter. With your comment, you could hear a collection of howling laughter coming from in the house. Paul looked absolutely bewildered but regained his composure, a smirk of disbelief formed on his face as he shook his head.
“That's why I wanted to tell you the full story. I think it would have been a little more believable, then hey I’m a werewolf. But you’re the impatient one”, Paul said, raising his eyebrows.
“Ok, so wolf boy. How do I come into this mix?”, you questioned.
“That's the even more complicated part”
“Spill”
“Shifters have something called imprints. You’re mine”, he gulped at the last part as he looked at you for approval.
You wouldn't believe what you were hearing. This was insane. Not believing him at all and believing him fully at the same time.
You couldn't deny the connection that you felt with him, but werewolves don't exist. Or at least you didn't think that they did.
“Imprints are like soulmates. But they don't have to be romantic. It could just be me being your protector or a friend. Or something more. It's your ultimate choice in the matter”. Paul had a firm grip on your hand now like he needed to be touching some part of you at the moment. '`Do you have anything to say?”, he asked.
Inhaling as much air as your lungs could take in and letting it all out slowly you shifted yet again this time so you were fully in front of him. You wanted more time to think over everything that had just been thrown at you but part of you was terrified. If you asked for more time to think you would get in your head or worse let Bella get in your head. Since you were pretty positive that she knew everything that was going on based on her reactions earlier.
“Would a human imprint, would they feel the connection too?”
“Yeah. Umm not completely like a wolf but they do. You’ll feel drawn to me. Any emotions surrounding me will feel heightened. You can feel the connection”, Paul answered.
“Cool”, was all that you could manage to get out. This reaction made Paul heartily laugh and it made your heart warm to see him light up.
---------------
“So what's the deal with you and Bella? We met her about a year ago and she just mentioned that she had a sister and that was it. Why did you just now come out of the woodwork?”Paul asked. You were now leaning against his chest, snuggled into it appreciating the warmth he provided against the freezing winds that whipped through the forest Emily's house sat in.
“Well, I lived with my mom and stepdad for pretty much most of my life. My dad and mom got together pretty soon after Renee and he got divorced. That's why I'm only two years younger than Bella. A few months ago my stepdad found out he was sick and my mom wanted to move across the country so he could be treated at Boston Medical Center since they have a trial program he’s eligible for. Which I was all for because I love my step-dad and want him to get treated but it would have been too hard for me to go with him. So my mom called Charlie and asked if I could move back here”
“Damn I'm so sorry Y/N”, Paul softy said as he pulled you closer to him.
“It's fine. My mom sends me daily updates on him and I’m glad to be back here with Charlie. And really it's probably a good thing that Bella and I are around each other more. Really our entire lives the only time we’ve gotten to know each other is over the phone”, you assured him.
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you as Paul hummed no melody in particular and continued to wrap your bracelet in circles slowly around your wrist. You watched as it turned left and right and Paul's eyes concentrated on it.
“I can make you one”, you said looking up to meet his eyes and giving him a sweet smile. He looked shocked for a second, almost embarrassed that you had caught him playing with it.
“I don't wanna have to make you do anything for me”, Paul stuttered, but he still did not drop your left wrist.
“Paul it would be no big deal. It's easy. I even have the colors left over. We could match”, You wiggled your eyebrows at the last point attempting to calm him down. Which worked. He laughed at your weirdness and pulled you tight to him again.
“The packs gonna give me such crap for wearing a pink and orange bracelet”, he whined pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Such it up Lahote, You're getting a matching friendship bracelet”

Wildest dreams, pt. 34.
Tumblr media
Summary: Still in shock in light of Y/N's decision, Paul decides to share the burden with Embry. However, the morning takes a turn for the worse.
Warnings: angst, fluff, sexual innuendos, swearing, GRAPHIC depictions of death and blood
Wildest Dreams Masterlist
————————————
Paul stands before Embry and Daisy, the weight of Y/N’s decision pressing heavily on his shoulders. The words feel foreign, even as they leave his lips.
“Y/N said she will join the Cullens.”
“She actually wants to be one of them?” Embry’s voice breaks the tense silence, his hand dragging down his face in disbelief. “Wasn’t she the one that said she would never accept that kind of a life?”
Paul nods, remaining quiet as he collapses in the chair. He has barely spoken since Y/N uttered the words the previous night. The memory of her words sends a shiver down his spine, the intensity of the moment still fresh in his mind. Truth be told, he had no time to react because his body reacted for him. Their bedroom window’s shards can attest to that as well as Embry’s shorts that he barely got over his thighs.
“Did she say why?” Embry’s question hangs in the air, but Paul remains silent, shaking his head. The sigh that escapes his lips is heavy with unspoken turmoil. He hadn’t given Y/N a chance to explain herself, but her resolve had been unmistakable. It’s what he had begged for, what he had prayed for countless nights. Yet now, faced with the reality of it, he is filled with a sense of dread and uncertainty. If it’s what he’s wanted all along, why is he so distraught over it?
Embry rises from his seat, determination etched on his face. “I should talk to her.”
Daisy’s grip on his hand stops him in his tracks. “I don’t think you’re the one who should be talking to her,” she says gently but firmly. “I’m not sure there’s much to talk about. If she’s made her decision, it’s only a matter of how and when.”
“She told me she’d never forgive me if I even tried to turn her into one of them,” Paul’s voice is strained, the words coming out through gritted teeth. “This is a result of an emotional night. She probably feels pressured because of the wedding and our vows.”
Daisy’s gaze is unwavering, her voice filled with conviction. “It could also be that she’s had more time to think and inform herself of all the pros and cons of being a vampire. It’s Y/N! When have you known her to make a rash decision? She’s chronically overthinking every fucking thing. I highly doubt she’d say something so heavy without being absolutely certain that’s what she wants.”
Embry rubs his chin, biting his lower lip. “Daisy is right. I hate it, but if this is what she wants, then fuck it. We can figure it out.”
Paul’s frustration boils over, his voice rising. “The very possibility of her being one of them is what brought the death visions I still dream of every night. She won’t be just a vampire; she will be the reason the Volturi come back.”
“They won’t touch her,” Embry growls, his instincts flaring. Y/N’s been a very big part of his heart for as long as he can remember, and every cell of his being demands her safety.
Daisy's running soothing circles on Embry’s back but it does little to ease the tension.
She inhales sharply. “I don’t know the Volturi, but I know of them. If they come back, I’m not sure what you can do to survive their attack.”
“Last time, had it been a fight, I wouldn’t have survived,” Paul reminds them. “The only reason I got to live long enough to imprint on Y/N and have this amazing life with her is because we managed to stop the war before it began by proving Renesmee isn’t going to end their species. Y/N is a genuine threat.”
Bowing his head, Paul covers his face with his hands, his voice breaking. “I want her to live and I want her to be safe, but either choice brings us to the same ending and I don’t know what to do with that.”
“We don’t know why she dies if she remains human,” Embry pulls Daisy closer to him. “All we know it’s by the tree we burned and in a violent manner. If we never let her near the forest, if you guys move somewhere barren, why would we expect her to die? She could be human and you two could live out the rest of your lives in a desert riding camels or something!”
“I don’t think that would work,” Daisy says softly, her voice trembling with the effort to hold back tears. She fears that if she speaks any louder, her voice will break. “If she’s destined to die, it would happen no matter how hard we try to stop it.”
“Destined to die is a little dramatic, don’t you think?” Jasper chimes in, raising an eyebrow and suppressing a smirk. The three look at him and Alice in shock.
“I can’t see her future anymore,” Alice states begrudgingly, her frustration palpable. “The last of what I saw was her making a choice to be one of us. After that, everything goes dark.”
“Fucking great,” Embry exclaims, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“You saw it?” Paul stands, his knees shaking but determination fuels his movements.
Alice nods ever so slightly. “She made her decision walking down the aisle.”
“And she wants me to do it,” Jasper announces cheerily as if it was a trivial matter.
Paul’s hands form fists by his sides, his scowl deepening. “If anyone is going to do it, it will be Carlisle.”
“Jasper is right,” Alice interjects, her voice firm. “Y/N’s choice is not Carlisle.”
“This is ridiculous,” Paul chuckles dryly, shaking his head in disbelief. “I’m going to talk to my wife. She’ll clear everything up and I’ll pack us up to live in the Antarctic if I have to, but I won’t let her do something she didn’t want.”
“But she does want it now,” Alice reminds him gently, her eyes filled with empathy. “With no outside pressure, she chose to take a chance on your love. I don’t see much of her future, but if you storm in there right now all you’ll have is regret because she will get hurt and it will be your fault.”
“I would never lose control with her close by,” Paul huffs.
“You will,” Alice flinches at the certainty of her own words. “She’ll survive this time, but it will leave a gnarly scar on her back.”
Embry steps in front of Paul, pointing to the chair with a firm hand.  “Sit your ass down.”
“I think I’ll be sick,” Daisy murmurs, a hand slapping over her mouth as she rushes to the bathroom.
“Ah, fuck,” Embry mutters, running after her. “Don’t let him leave!” he shouts back.
Groaning, Paul reluctantly sits down, his mind racing. “You can’t see her future and I’m supposed to be fine with that? Even if she was going to die, wouldn’t you see it?”
Alice’s voice is tinged with frustration. “My visions don’t always work well. Especially with the pack.”
Jasper wraps an arm around her, trying to comfort her. “She struggles to accept that.”
“Would you enjoy being hindered by a pack of wolves?” Alice retorts, her eyes flashing with irritation.
Smirking, Jasper shrugs. “I’m superior in that way.”
Before anyone can react, Jasper grunts, doubling over from a punch Paul didn't even see coming. “I deserved that,” he admits, wincing.
“Yes, you did,” Alice chuckles.
“Why did she decide on Jasper?” Paul furrows his eyebrows. “Would Jasper even manage to do it without killing her?”
“I’m not sure,” Alice sighs, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, love.” Jasper tries to interject some lightness, but the tension in the room remains palpable.
Paul runs a hand through his hair, his mind racing. “I need to talk to her. If I leave now, will I still hurt her?”
“No,” Alice frowns, her eyes distant. “I don’t...” She pauses, her face suddenly going pale as her gaze fixes on something only she can see. “I don’t see...”
“Alice?” Jasper grabs her tightly, holding her steady. “What do you see?”
“She’s in the forest,” Alice gasps, grasping onto Jasper’s hand for dear life.
“Y/N?!” Paul’s voice cracks with raw fear. His heart pounds violently, each beat echoing the urgency in his chest. He can tell something’s terribly wrong; Alice wouldn’t seem so agitated otherwise. Every cell in Paul’s body is itching to shift, to run straight to his imprint, but he doesn’t know where to go.
“She’s not alone,” Alice squeals, her panic contagious.
Grabbing her shoulders, Paul ignores the angry look Jasper shoots him. “Where is she exactly?!”
Alice shakes her head in horror, “I don’t know! I don’t see any clear markings!”
Hearing the commotion, Embry runs back to see what’s happening.
“Paul?”
“I think it’s happening,” Paul’s eyes are filled with tears as he meets Embry’s worried gaze. “I think she’s going to die.”
Embry’s jaw clenches, his eyes narrowing with determination. “I’m calling everyone. We won’t let that happen.”
“I will,” Daisy insists, her voice steady despite the fear in her eyes. “You and Paul get going. I’ll call Sam, and Emily will help call the rest of them.”
“Babe –“ Embry starts, but Daisy cuts him off.
“Embry, I love you,” she states clearly, “but I need you to go save my best friend.”
Biting his lips, Embry nods.
“We’re coming with you,” Jasper declares, leaving no room for argument.
Paul and Embry shift almost instantly, their forms blurring as they leave the house in a rush, filled with shared desperation that’s driving them to find Y/N before it’s too late.
Paul’s heart feels like it’s being squeezed in barbed wire. The thought of Y/N out there, alone and in danger, fills him with dread so profound it nearly paralyzes him. He can feel the bond they share, but he can't feel her emotions. She could still be safe and that thought alone is giving him strength to keep going, guiding him through the forest. He can’t lose her, not now, not ever. The fear of losing her to the very fate he’s been trying to prevent for so long is a weight that threatens to crush him, but he pushes on, driven by love and complete terror.
“I’ve already told our family,” Alice tells Daisy. “We’ll all be out there.”
Holding back tears, Daisy sniffles as the vampires leave, the house now eerily empty. “I just hope it’s enough,” she whispers, her voice a fragile thread of hope in the overwhelming tide of fear.

the unlikely couple
summary: Edward’s sister fall for a wolf…
(english is not my first language!!)
Y/N Mason Cullen was Edward’s little sister, she was turned at 15 when she also had the Spanish influenza, their mother had begged Carlisle to turn them. She was the baby of the family, she didn’t had any powers like Jasper, Alice or Edward but she had this humanly aura around her, in school she was the friendly Cullen and she was proud of that.
On day Edward had been fighting with her because he thought she was too weak to travel alone but she was also 110 years old, she didn’t understood why she couldn’t go while he left to Alaska the year before. She left when he started to be angry and a little bit violent. She knew she was playing with fire while she walked along the border but she didn’t want Edward to find her.
Jacob was patrolling along the border when he smelled something heavenly, he stopped to look around and that’s when he saw her. A girl with the beauty of a goddess, the smile on her face could lit up the world, she was small and he wanted to protect her from everything. But when he started to walked toward her he remembered she was on the leech’s side...So he did some noises to grab her attention, when she looked in his eyes he felt like she was holding him on earth, she was his everything and more, he would be anything she wanted him to be a lover, a protector and a brother(even if the last choice would be a real disappointment for him).
When she saw the wolf looking at her she wasn’t scared, she felt so protect and cared for.
“_Hello… I know am not supposed to be this close to the border but please don’t tell your alpha, I just wanted to be alone. I don’t know which wolf you are but you’re beautiful, I understand that this is a lot to ask but could you please phase back so we can talk?”
Jacob was shocked, he imprinted on a vampire, but she didn’t smell like one or act like one, he was confused but he somehow nod and phased back behind a tree.
“_You’re even more handsome now! Oh my sorry I didn’t mean to think out loud…
_That’s… thank you. Umm we both know that we shouldn’t talk like that but you seems really cool and nice so maybe we could get to know each other?
_Oh yes! Of course, so I’m Y/N Cullen, I’m a vampire but you already know that…
_Well nice to meet you Y/N, I’m Jacob Black and I’m a werewolf but you already know that.”
That was the beginning of the relationship that would unify the wolves and the vampires in Forks, of there would be ups and downs but at the end love would always win for the two imprints!
(maybe I could make a part two with Edward’s reaction to the relation, what do you think??)

i was wondering what Dazai and Chuuya would wear in your au? I'm talking about the (not so) perfect pair btw.
(This is totally not for fanart)
AAAAAA FANART????? (im autistic and sarcasm is not my strong suit for this stuff, and I'll feel real stupid if this isn't real but OH MY GOD I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER)
And my GOD have I thought about this. It is currently 10:03PM and I have school tomorrow, lets see how long this takes me.
Right- Generally speaking, any chapter they're in school, they're wearing a uniform. Most of this stuff is based on what I know from the uk so 💀 yeah, it's a school uniform. That means, a collared short sleeve shirt, red tie(honestly it doesn't need to be red, I just randomly picked one), and black trousers.
Chuuya's wardrobe I feel would consist of patched denim shorts and jeans, jeans probably ripped at the knees. Dark colours mainly for other types of trousers, think black and greyish.
T-shirts, second hand band tees that are probably a little worn mostly, his parents do well but he isn't rich + he's a middle child, he probably doesn't own a lot of first hand clothing. I'd say oversized flannel or tartan shirts, either worn loosely over shirts or tied around his waist(Think very grungy. It's getting into summer, so tied around his waist is more likely)
The big thing is that most of the time so far, unless he's at school he's been wearing the hoodie Dazai gave him(black + red stitching, detailed better in the actual fic😔), so it'd make sense for him to be wearing it, unless at school, or post his parents finding out.
Generally, he's rather grunge but put together, he looks nice, and generally presentable.
DAZAI HOWEVER, LIVES OFF HIS BEDROOM FLOOR.
While Dazai has clothes, he doesn't actually wear much of them. With Dazai, I think black or tan trousers when he's not in uniform, the same two pairs. The black ones more commonly, so probably more worn.
If Chuuya would wear the t-shirt, Dazai would too. Generally, I think most of the t-shirts Dazai would wear would be stolen from Chuuya, so yeah! If Chuuya'd wear it, Dazai would.
Same with hoodies, but obvs Dazai is slightly different. Generally with dressing Dazai/his clothes, this au Dazai is still in his emoish phase, so stick to black and earth tones- blue, green, brown.
A few extra details!!! I've never said it explicitly, but Dazai isn't wearing bandages over his face, just his neck and arms. Chuuya's ears are also pierced, Kouyou got him earrings for his birthday. How many piercings that is? Idc go wild bro's sixteen and his parents are rather chill, he probably has a few. I don't know if this is the level of detail you were looking for, but for Chuuya, with shoes I'd say boots or like converse. For Dazai- it's actually specified that he wears a pair of like BATTERED high top black converse so :D
I feel it's fair to mention that Dazai and Chuuya are still rather rough and tumble teens, they're both depressed as shit rn and not going out to cause chaos like they normally would- but they still dress like they're prepared too. So a little unkempt and scruffy is a fairly accurate department of how they likely look half the time.
It is 11:08 and has been an hour, so I should probably stop agonising over this but this was a LOT of detail sorry if it still wasn't enough, or wasn't what you were looking for :(( BUT HAVE FUN WITH THIS INFO.

Always an Angel - Paul Lahote
Ok, I've been obsessed with the lyric “Always an angel, never a god for a few days now. I don't know why all of a sudden but it's been all I can think about. I know there are a bunch of literal interpretations but I look at it as a version of “always the bridesmaid, never the bride”, always the side character, never the main character. So I hope this comes across how I want it to lol.
Also, the timeline is kinda messed up in this, just live in ignorant bliss and ignore it pls, and thank you!
---------
Always the option, never the priority.
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
Always the lover, never the loved.
Always the fighter, never the fought for.
Always an angel, never a god.
------------
You were used to being sidelined, looked right through.
No matter what you were doing, or who you were with, you were never the main focus.
Growing up boys never spared you a glance, your best friends being the main targets for their glances and flirty remarks. You were never the one asked to dance, always the one asked to hold a friend's purse or bag. If the car was full on the way to get ice cream, you were always the one that was going to be left out. You never learned inside jokes and standing alone at parties, you didn't even know why you went, it's not like anyone would notice if you left anyway.
At night when you would break and confide in the one person you knew truly loved you she would always question why you remained friends with the people that caused you so much pain. And through your blubbering, you would look at her like she was crazy. Explain to your mother that it must have been too long since she was a teenager. Because that's not how it works. Living in a small town the pool of potential friends is small, and having friends that treat you horribly is better than having no friends at all.
You would apologize to her years later, after maturing, and realizing that the remarks you directed towards her were uncalled for. The anger you threw her way was misguided and unfair. She didn't deserve the way that you treated her.
When Bella Swan moved to town you thought everything was going to change. She was from a big city, you didn't know much about Phoenix but you knew they probably didn't harbor the same small-town mindset that Forks did.
She had no clue who you were. She didn't know the unspoken reputation that hung above your head like a storm cloud.
And at first, you were right.
The two of you became friends quickly, Bella taking a liking to your quiet demeanor, such a drastic change from Jessica and her goons.
Your friendship appeared surface-level, to everyone but the two of you. In school, you both kept to yourselves and didn't talk much, even to each other. You would drag her along with you when you gathered the strength to hang out with your old friends. But you didn't do that often, seeing as they saw her as a shiny new toy and didn't treat her as a second-class citizen.
But after school the two of you would talk, your friendship would come alive in the comfort of your own homes, and you two would look like actual teenage girls and not two seventeen-year-olds who should be on the highest dose of Lexapro.
She was the first person that you saw as a true friend, that was until she committed, in your opinion, a cardinal sin.
Bella had gone off the deep end and you hadn't seen her in days. But that was normal, she would spiral, skip school, and then show up as if nothing happened. So you weren't concerned, sent her a few texts checking up on her and getting one-word responses back. Then the following Monday came around. You were waiting by your truck, lazily twirling your hair, eyes glazed over as you dissociated waiting for the bell to ring.
But amid your dissociation, you were pulled back to reality when a shiny black Volvo came to a screeching halt a row over. You knew who drove the expensive car so you tried to be as nonchalant as possible as you peered over your shoulder to get a good look at the owner.
You wished you hadn't.
Because getting out of the passenger seat was the person that you considered your best friend. Your best friend was sitting in the passenger seat of the car of the guy you had a crush on since he arrived at Forks High School.
She knew about your long-standing crush on Edward, she was the only person other than your mother who you had told. It came tumbling off your tongue one late night about a month after she had arrived in town. And you had sworn her to secrecy, begging her to never tell another soul.
But now it seemed to not matter, she had broken your trust and your heart.
------------------
The next year drug on. With Bella being completely infatuated with Edward you were left to crawl back to your old friends. They accepted you with barely open arms, reluctantly saving you a seat at the lunch table, sometimes sending you the location for Friday night activities.
When the Cullen clan abruptly left Forks Bella did to you exactly what you had done to your friends months earlier. Part of you didn't know why, but you let her back in, although this time keeping her at an arm's length away, never fully trusting her,
Eventually, however, Edward came back. First making his appearance walking hand in hand with Bella in the dreadful hallways of Forks High School after she had disappeared yet again for a few days with not even a courtesy text.
This time seeing them together didn't feel like a hot knife was piercing your skin. How could it, you no longer felt the same that you had for Edward. Because he had proven himself to be just like everyone else. He made you feel invisible.
------------
The heat of late spring had arrived and you took in all the warmth that you could as you walked down the small rocky path to the mailbox. Graduation had come and gone and you found yourself in isolation. The people you had forced yourself to be friends with in high school no longer mattered. You didn't have to play the uncertain game of high school politics anymore. Starting university was on the horizon and while you dreaded leaving the comfort of home you were excited, this was going to be your chance to reinvent yourself. You were no longer going to be the person no one cared to look towards.
Pulling out the various envelopes you felt your heart stop beating when the light lilac envelope was pulled to the front. You knew what it was, you didn't even have to open it. But you did, ripping it open, praying that you hadn't torn apart the coveted invitation. Sure enough in bold letters, you read “Edward Anthony Masen Cullen and Isabella Marie Swan request your presence…”.
The phone call with Bella that night was awkward. You haven't talked much since graduation but she assured you that she wanted you to be at the wedding. You had wanted to push and ask her why she was rushing to get married. I mean you along with everyone else knew that they had only known each other for a year and hadn't been dating for the entirety of said year. But she sounded happy, the happiest she had ever seemed. So you didn't say anything, instead prying for details about the impending nuptials.
-------------
Thousands of flowers cascaded down creating a custom perfume in the air. Your eyes darted between the bunches of wisteria and sweet peas and you were in awe. The wedding had snuck up on you. So much had happened over the summer leaving you feeling unprepared to start school in the fall. Leaving you to make one of the hardest choices that you had ever made, deferring your acceptance into your top school to the following fall quarter.
So when you got a reminder on your phone that read “Bella and Edward wedding tmr” you were at a loss for words. I mean you had everything you physically needed, a dress, a present, the right pair of shoes. But you had forgotten one important thing, a date.
It wasn't going to be the first time you had shown up to an event without one, but it was probably going to feel the most embarrassing.
So here you were, standing next to your group of “friends'' from high school as they gossiped about the possibility of Bella being pregnant. “What do you think?”Erik asked you, giving your arm a soft nudge with his. “I don't know guys '. Jessica of course had a counter, pointing out that out of the group you were the closest with her. Luckily before you had to come up with an excuse of why you didn't know for certain the music began, signaling that it was time for everyone to turn their attention to the altar.
A few tears managed to slip down your cheeks as you watched your sometimes best friend say “I do”. In that moment all the turbulent times the two of you experienced didn't matter. You were just happy to be in the presence of two people who were madly in love and confessing it to each other, permanently sealing their love with a dramatic kiss.
The reception area was decorated equally as beautiful. You were grateful that Bella, or more likely Alice had set you close to the dance floor. That way you could watch people without feeling like a total loser, hanging out in the corner by yourself. At least this way you could still enjoy the happiness of the other guests without feeling the gross amount of body heat from the dancing bodies.
The ice was melting quickly in your lemonade, the night had not been rewarded with a cool late summer breeze so you were appreciative of the cool drink. The night had seemingly been going according to plan. Your ‘friends’ had migrated to another table across the dance floor with the excuse of wanting to talk to some of the other guests, but they had not returned in almost two hours so you were holding your breath.
Mentally you were planning your escape plan, glancing at your watch. Waiting for an acceptable time to leave, not too early into the night but not too late that you were leaving only minutes before the bride and groom's big exit. As you granted yourself yet another glance at the heirloom watch you wore and looked back up a gasp unwillingly left your lips.
The mystery man, who looked almost familiar, chuckled at your surprised look. Confidently he took the empty seat next to yours, turning his body to give you his full attention. “May I help you”, you didn't recognize your own words, your tone was a bit rude and you didn't even give him a second to introduce himself after she sat.
“I’m Paul Lahote”.
Once he gave his name to you your eyes moved up to meet him and the electric shock that you felt in your veins almost felt real. There was no doubt blush forming on every inch of your face and you were praying that the low light of the Edison bulbs did a good job at protecting some of your dignity. You gave him your name, barely squeaking out your last name.
Things like this didn't happen to you. A man that looked like him didn't talk to you. A part of you wondered if Jessica or someone like her had already turned him down, because let's face it, you were always the option but never the priority.
“I think you should share a dance with me, no pretty girl like you should be sitting alone at a wedding”. The flare in your cheeks was visible now, you were sure of it. No matter how low the light was you could have sworn a red glow was emitting from your body, like an accusing halo.
“Paul…you don't have to dance with me, I was just getting ready to leave”. Gathering your belongings as you begin to stand up. “No!”. He said, eyebrows raising to the top of his forehead once he realized how loud he exclaimed. Sheepishly he looked around offering small smiles as an apology to a few of the guests who looked at him like he had three heads.
“Please, I noticed you when I walked in before the ceremony and I haven't been able to shake you from my eyeline all night. I don’t think I can take no for an answer”.
The fact that your heart was still caged behind your chest was an act of god. Because at this point it should have flown away due to how hard it was beating. You were at a loss for words. The thought that someone was putting you first, taking interest in you was unbearable. And you were crumbling at his gaze.
His outstretched hand found yours that you slowly had begun to uncurl from against your body. Swiftly he whisked you out onto the dance floor, pulling your body flush to his.
Clumsily your feat matched his falling into routine with his steps, your body swaying in unison to the light melody. He hummed along softly to the quiet music as he kept a firm grip on you, almost like he was afraid to let you go.
The song ended and awkwardly you looked around not knowing what to do. Paul however looked happy as can be, letting go of your hand but keeping the one on your lower back in place. He led you back to the table where you had spent most of the night, pulling out your chair before you could even react. You thanked him as you sunk into the back of the chair trying to ground yourself.
“Man, I feel like the luckiest guy here at this whole damn wedding I got to dance with the prettiest guest of them all”. He said matter-of-factly triumphantly, taking a sip out of the glass he abandoned when he first approached your table. You scoffed, there was no way he was being for real, the alcohol had to have been getting to him now if he was saying such an untrue statement.
“I think you've had enough”. Your voice was shy and your eyes barely peeked through your almost closed eyelids. The embarrassment you hadn't felt earlier had returned and you were suddenly hyper-conscious of everything happening around you.
“Doll this stuff doesn't make me feel anything, you, however, are making me feel alive for the first time”. His drink was abandoned yet again as he scooted his chair closer, invading your bubble, and causing you to squirm under his gaze yet again.
“Paul, I'm flattered but again I think your choices are impaired. There's no way you feel anything like that for me”.
Paul was out of his chair before you could continue your babbling, cutting you off by capturing your lips in his.
After he pulled back for air his forehead rested against yours, the two of you matching your breathing. You were yet again at a loss for words, kissing the hottest boy at your best friend's wedding was not on this year's bingo card. But as per usual it seems Paul had the perfect thing to say, “My angel forgive me if this is forward, but l you need to let me love you, I have a feeling that you're gonna be stuck with me for a long time”.

Love & Hate, Part VI ~ Paul Lahote
I finished with my organic chemistry final today, so to celebrate, here’s part 6 of Love & Hate!
Summary: Sick of his life being dictated by the wolf inside, Paul Lahote is determined to keep one choice for himself and never imprint on anyone. But the wolf has different ideas.
Warnings: uhhh chronic pain?
Word count: 6.5k
Love & Hate Masterlist
Tumblr media
“That’s your grand idea?” Paul asked, disbelief coloring every word like a rainbow. “Run?”
Instead of laughing or saying ‘just kidding’, Jacob folded his arms, looking defensive. “Look, you know how powerful the wolf is. Nothing manmade is going to be able to contain it, so your best bet is distance, yeah?” Jacob waited until Paul nodded before continuing. “Now, we can run faster than a car, and if you tried to book a flight now, it would be expensive and potentially disastrous if the wolf gains control while you’re in the air.”
Paul shuddered, getting a sudden image of the wolf forcing him to jump out of the emergency hatch of a commercial airliner with a parachute, screaming Y/N’s name on the way down. “Sowhat, I just run as fast as I can for two days?”
Jacob bobbed his head. “Until the wolf gains control and makes you turn around. And by that time, you’ll have expended so much energy that the wolf would be starting on an already low tank.”
Jacob’s idea had merit, Paul had to admit, but there was one big problem.
“What about you-know-who? Who’s going to look after her during this trip?”
“The pack will,” Jacob said, like it was obvious. “C’mon, she’s just one person, and we’ve got a pack of ten.”
Paul snorted and pushed off from leaning against the counter. “She’s far more difficult than you’re giving her credit for.”
His friend suddenly averted his gaze, staring at the coffee pot on the counter. Paul rolled his eyes. Werewolves tended to wear their hearts on their sleeves, and Jacob was not an exception. He was clearly hiding something.
Paul crossed his arms. “Spit it out.”
“What?” Jacob asked, the defensive expression cutting into his attempt at innocence.
“Say whatever it is that’s making you look like you swallowed a gumball,” Paul said, voice sharp with annoyance.
Jacob winced. “Don’t worry about leaving her,” he said instead of answering Paul’s question. “We’ll figure it out.”
Paul wasn’t worried, but Jacob’s attempt to hide something made him nervous. “Why shouldn’t I worry?”
“We’ll tighten up the patrols, and we’ll be fine until you get back.”
“What aren’t you saying?” Paul pressed. Jacob’s mouth stayed stubbornly closed. “Don’t make me put you in a headlock.”
Jacob grinned. “You think you could overpower me?”
“Don’t change the subject.”
His friend rubbed his neck. “It’s just…you don’t spend that much time talking to her or protecting her anyways. If you’re gone, nothing will change much as far as Y/N’s concerned.”
A sharp tug in Paul’s gut almost made him gasp.
She doesn’t need me.
The thought bounced around Paul’s mind with brutality, along with growls from the feral creature that shared Paul’s body. Paul barely managed to keep the sounds from escaping the confines of his own mind. If this conversation was happening a day closer to the full moon, he wouldn’t have succeeded, a fact which reminded him of the urgency of the situation.
“The other members of the pack will be dealing with the full moon as well,” Paul finally said. “You won’t be able to take care of her completely.”
“None of us have been fighting against an imprint bond. It won’t affect us a quarter as much as it affects you. Besides, all we have to do is keep an eye on her.”
“Oh, that’s all is it?” Paul snapped. “You’ve been doing a marvelous job of that. Twice now she’s snuck past whomever is supposed to be watching her!”
Jacob narrowed his eyes, and Paul braced himself for the lecture about how he alone was responsible for his imprint’s safety. How Paul needed to get his act together because his imprint needed him. How the last thing he should be doing is getting angry at his imprint when his imprint was the one being hunted by a bloodsucker.
“How did you know she snuck out today?”
Paul froze. That was not what he expected. “Because…you told me.”
Jacob shook his head. “No, I didn’t.”
“You must’ve,” Paul argued, but Jacob shook his head again. “Well then I must’ve heard it from the telepathy bond.”
“But you just walked home in the rain in your human form,” Jacob reasoned. “You couldn’t have known unless–” Jacob cut off as realization dawned on his face. “What did you do to her?”
“Nothing,” Paul sneered and tried to walk away.
A hand grabbed his shoulder, forcing him back around. “What happened?”
“Nothing happened,” Paul said forcefully.
“You’re lying,” Jacob growled back. “Because after whatever happened, you walked home in your human form in the rain because you were ashamed and scared that the pack would find out what you did.”
Paul hated his friend for knowing him too well. “I didn’t do anything to her!” he snapped, shoving at Jacob’s shoulders, but Jacob didn’t budge.
“So you said something to her then. The two of you argued, and you said something horrible.”
“Let go of me.”
“Paul-” Jacob started to say in a warning tone.
“If you’re so worried about her, why don’t you leave me alone and go find her? Oh, that’s right, she has more important things to do than run lines.”
Jacob fell back a step, as if Paul had physically shoved him. The hurt in his friend’s eyes shot Paul down to the core, and waves of guilt started crashing on the surf of Paul’s conscience.
“I can’t believe you just said that.” Jacob’s wounded voice felt like a punch to the gut.
But Paul wasn’t ready to apologize, not to anyone.
“I have to go pack,” he said, walking towards the bedroom. “Apparently, I’m leaving tomorrow morning.”
-
The sky was pouring rain as I drove to the hospital. I could hear Paul’s words in every swipe of my windshield wipers.
Rid of you. Make everything impossible. Someone like you.
I clenched my jaw.
Maybe I’d just live in the hospital instead of Sam and Emily’s. The staff locker rooms were decent, and I was willing to bet the mattresses in the on-call rooms were far better than that couch I’d been sleeping on. I’d done many difficult things in my life before I’d ever even met Paul. I didn’t need him to break this imprint bond, especially if I couldn’t stomach ever seeing him again.
All I needed was for the pack to catch the vampire. Then I could go find Billy Black’s friend on my own and make it happen.
I pulled into the hospital parking lot, and the handicapped parking space mocked me as I drove past it, reminding me of the permit stuffed into my glovebox. I ignored its jabs, parking in one of the spots reserved for doctors.
Limping my way through the parking lot, the sound of Paul’s voice faded away, replaced by the tapping of my cane, an ear-scratching reminder of what I’d lost, what I now was.
A flare of pain burst from my knee upwards, the exertion causing my injury to complain. I curled my free hand into a fist.
Every time the pain threatened to make me crumble, I pictured what I was working for.
Pale, everlasting skin.
Glinting, bronze eyes.
And an indestructible, flawless body.
A new beginning.
That’s why I put up with pain. That’s why I was putting up with all the werewolves and the vampires.
Perfection.
I limped into the entryway, not even bothering to acknowledge the woman at the desk’s greeting. I shook off the rain, cursing myself for not grabbing a raincoat when I’d snuck out of Sam and Emily’s house earlier.
Nearly slipping twice, I managed to make it to the elevator, angrily pressing the button for the second floor much harder than I needed to.
The doors pulled open with a cheery ding, and I walked down the hallway towards my office, my pace getting more and more labored. Standing on my feet beside my flat-tired car for so long had been a mistake. My flagging endurance only added to my irritation.
But as I walked past the closed door of Carlisle’s office, I heard his voice inside and stopped immediately.
“...not a bad idea. Of course I’ll look out for her, and I can enlist some of my kids to help as well. They’ll stay out of sight, but reinforcements never hurt.”
He paused for a moment, but I heard nothing. He must’ve been on the phone.
“Sounds like a plan. Thanks, Sam.”
I cocked my head.
Sam? Why would Carlisle and Sam be talking? I thought werewolves and vampires were natural enemies. When Carlisle was checking me out in Sam and Emily’s living room, the dynamics had been strained to say the least.
Before I could arrive at a conclusion, the door in front of me swung open, and Carlisle stepped out. “Y/N,” he said, not sounding at all surprised to find me lingering outside of his door.
Then I felt silly. He had vampire hearing. He probably knew I was there the whole time.
Carlisle gave me a strained smile. “I just got off the phone with Sam, and he explained everything.”
Everything?
“Honestly, it’s a huge relief for me. We needed someone to work the next few nights anyways, so it’s all working out for the best.” He smiled at me, clearly expecting me to be excited.
“Yes, that’s great, I’m glad Sam explained it all,” I said, trying to sound natural.
Carlisle nodded. “I was just about to leave for the day, but I’ll see you tomorrow morning at the end of your shift. Again, you can call me if you have any questions at all.”
I nodded. “I’m just gonna…go find some scrubs.”
What was that? I wondered as I walked to the supply closet. Why would Sam of all people call Carlisle and tell him to let me work at the hospital? I thought the pack wanted me to stay within their territory while the rogue vampire was still out there.
I bent down to set my fresh scrubs on my desk and then froze.
What if…Paul was behind it? Something in our argument must’ve motivated him to whisper into Sam’s ear to have me work at the hospital. I never understood the need for me to stay at Sam and Emily’s, but Paul clearly thought it was necessary.
Did our argument make him want the vampire to find me and kill me?
I didn’t want to think that of anyone, let alone my supposed soulmate, but Paul couldn’t have done it out of the goodness of his heart. None of that goodness was reserved for me.
My thoughts whirled faster and faster, whipping towards tornado speed.
I shook my head a little. Paul’s motives didn’t matter, not if they got me closer to the doctor. The more the doctor saw of me, the closer we’d get. The closer we got, the harder it would be for him to say no to changing me into a vampire once the bond was broken.
And becoming a vampire was the only thing that mattered.
-
Paul’d fashioned a sort of backpack to carry the essentials for his trip, the weight of which slowed him down a bit, but was well worth it to have clothes and money with him. Within eight hours, he’d reached Twin Falls, Idaho. He’d stopped for a meal at McDonald’s and then kept going. By nightfall, he was on the outskirts of Salt Lake City.
Paul forgot how much he loved to run. The wolf loved it too, even if it kept routinely bringing up thoughts of Y/N and guilt about their argument. Paul didn’t want to care, but even as he shoved the wolf down, it offered him no relief. Not when he was acutely aware that all this denial of the wolf’s urges would only contribute to the frenzy the wolf would cause as soon as the full moon rose.
The thought kept urging him on, pushing him to run faster and faster. In the end, he had to stop after the second time he nearly ran into a telephone pole, due to the sagging of his eyelids.
So he found an area dense with trees and flopped on the ground. He wouldn’t stay there long, certainly not long enough for anyone to notice he was there. Just a quick power nap before he continued his journey.
Paul’s eyes were growing heavier and heavier, his breathing evening out. All the energy he’d spent was catching up with him, and he knew that this sleep would be a deep one.
But just before he could slip into unconsciousness, he was jerked awake.
Duuuuuuude.
What’s your problem, Jared? Paul snapped at the voice in his head. I’m trying to sleep!
No wonder Y/N’s not asking any questions about where you went.
Paul’d forgotten that his fight with Y/N would be as good as broadcasted in his wolf form. The shame pattering in his stomach made him bristle. She thought that I didn’t want to imprint on her because of her limp, he replied defensively.
Well, good thing you set her straight.
A growl vibrated in Paul’s throat, letting Jared know how little he appreciated his packmate’s sarcasm.
Look, the pack all knows that Y/N’s limp has nothing to do with your desire to break the bond, but you’re keeping Y/N at an arm’s length. How was she supposed to know?
Why are you defending her? Paul nearly shouted. You’re supposed to be on my side!
I am on your side. Jared sighed. But you’re supposed to be on hers.
Paul didn’t answer. Jared knew how he felt about the imprint bond, so he wasn’t going to waste the energy.
Y/N had just moved into the area when the vampire tried to kill her, Jared reminded him. She was all alone, and right now, she doesn’t have anybody but us. Have a little compassion.
Paul chewed on that.
He couldn’t imagine feeling alone in La Push. Even before he’d joined the pack, with all of his dad’s siblings and cousins, Paul had more family than he knew what to do with. And now with the pack, he had more brothers than he knew what to do with.
He didn’t want to admit that Jared might have a point, but thanks to the wolf telepathy, Jared already knew what Paul was thinking.
Aching for privacy, Paul shifted back into his human form and pulled on his pants.
He was going to sleep in his human form tonight.
-
The tight ranks of the werewolf pack never ceased to amaze me.
I didn’t find it strange that I hadn’t seen Paul since our argument by the side of the road. But what was strange was how no one brought up Paul in conversation with me. All the pack’s sly comments about Paul and I being soulmates somehow just faded away simultaneously. In fact, they avoided mentioning him at all, and it seemed as though they were hoping I wouldn’t ask about him.
But that was crazy…wasn’t it?
Either way, I couldn’t complain about it, not when I was finally at work.
I’d worked as a phlebotomist all through undergrad and med school, gaining as much experience as I could. As demanding as the patients could be and how scared I was at first, there was still something thrilling and mysterious about hospitals. I’d wanted to explore every nook and cranny, ask questions about all the machines, and learn about what everyone’s roles were. Now I had a medical degree, and I knew what all the machines did, I knew what each position was responsible for. The mystery was gone, yet the thrill was still there.
It’d been too long since I’d been at the hospital. I’d missed the clean, yet sharp smell of antiseptic, the weak lights overhead.
It made my heart feel nearly full again.
Nearly.
The cane in my hand—my only consistent companion—was the only thing ruining my perfect picture.
As if my thoughts had summoned him, Carlisle turned the corner at the end of the hallway, flipping through the pages on a clipboard. He looked up, saw me, and stopped in his tracks. Quickly, he patted down his pockets and then turned to go the way he’d just come.
I’d been hoping for some time with Carlisle, but he was avoiding me so much, I wondered if he’d forgotten that he’d told Sam he’d look out for me.
His avoidance rankled, eating away at me, but I just shoved it down.
When Paul and I finally succeeded in breaking the imprint bond, Carlisle would finally be willing to hear me out. Once I told him my reasons for wanting to become a vampire, the tender-hearted doctor wouldn’t be able to stand not giving me what I wanted.
Then, I wouldn’t just be back to normal, I’d be better than ever.
I straightened my shoulders and went on with my shift.
-
Paul started, his eyes opening. He knew immediately he’d slept much longer than anticipated, judging by the sunlight streaming through the leaves above him.
He cursed, scrambling to his feet and chucking off his pants.
He needed to keep moving, or all this running would have been for nothing. He knew that as soon as the wolf gained control, it would be frantic. He barely managed to make sure his pack was secure before shifting and running like a life depended on it.
-
The mattresses in the on-call room were not better than the couch. My knee ached after just one night on the mattress just as much as it had sleeping on the couch for nearly a month.
Nevertheless, I crawled onto the bed, trying to sneak in a nap before my third night shift in a row started.
But I couldn’t sleep, and I knew it wasn’t just the familiar aching pain radiating up my leg that kept me tossing and turning.
It was that imbecilic werewolf.
If he’d just turned all the energy he put into his hostility towards catching the vampire, this bond would already be broken, I might already be a vampire, and we’d both have moved on with our lives.
My phone rang.
“Hello?” I answered blearily.
“Y/N.” Even through the phone, I could hear the warmth in Emily’s voice.
I sat up, rubbing my tired eyes. “Hey, Emily, how are you?”
“Oh, not too bad.” Emily gave a soft sigh. “I just wanted to let you know that you’re still safe, that the pack have been taking turns patrolling the hospital.”
I cocked my head. If that were what she really wanted to say, she could’ve texted me. No, what she wanted to talk about was not some security update. “Thanks, that’s good to know.”
“Of course!”
I didn’t say anything, waiting for Emily’s motives to reveal themselves.
It hadn’t even been five seconds when Emily sighed. “Sam told me about your argument with Paul.”
I tensed “Paul told Sam?”
“No, it was the pack telepathy.”
I froze. “I’m sorry, what?”
“The pack telepathy? You know, they can hear each other's thoughts?”
“What?”
“Uh…well…” Emily stammered. “Did…did Paul not explain that to you?”
“No, he most certainly did not,” I retorted, cursing Paul’s close-lipped nature for what felt like the millionth time. “So, what, they can all communicate telepathically?”
“Not all the time. Only when they’re in their wolf forms.”
I swung my legs over the side of the on-call mattress. So everyone in the pack knew everything about every interaction I’d ever had with Paul.
That was…disturbing. To say the least.
Did that mean that everyone in the pack knew everything that happened between Emily and Sam as a husband and wife?
I couldn’t help the shudder.
The sound of Emily’s sigh came through the phone. “Look, Y/N, I understand that this is a lot to adjust to. Believe me, I struggled with it a lot, and I didn’t have a vampire hunting me. But it gets easier. It does, and suddenly one day you realize that you wouldn’t want any different.”
“I do want different,” I blurted without thinking and then felt my cheeks heat up. I hadn’t meant to be so truthful.
“Paul was out of line to say what he did,” Emily said, “but the two of you have been stuck in this whirlwind of stress. He might not admit it, but he’s stressed about that vampire being after you.”
The only reason I didn’t laugh was due to my gratitude that she assumed Paul was the biggest thing I wanted to change about my life.
“He is,” Emily insisted, correctly interpreting my silence. “I know he’s a tough egg to crack, but he’s the most loyal, determined person I’ve ever met. You just have to get through his shell and then he’ll never let you go.”
All the more reason not to stretch out this imprint business any longer than I had to. Paul had been doing an excellent job of not getting too involved so far, but I didn’t know how long this would last with this oh so powerful imprint bond.
“You know, Emily, I gotta get some sleep while I can.”
“Right, sorry.” Emily paused, and I could practically see her weighing her next words. “Will you be coming back here tomorrow?”
I bit my lip. Emily had always been more than generous with me. Even if I didn’t necessarily appreciate all her opinions about the imprint bond, I had to appreciate her efforts.
Emily inhaled on the other side of the line. “It’s silly but…I’ve missed having you around.”
Warmth flowed through my chest. “Yeah,” I said without thinking, “I’ll need some sleep after my shift tonight, and these mattresses at the hospital suck.”
“Great,” Emily said, her smile evident in her voice. “I’ll see you tomorrow then!”
“See ya,” I said, and she hung up.
I laid back, staring at the ceiling as all my warm and fuzzies wore off.
When I’d decided to move to Forks, I didn’t want to waste any time on anything other than becoming a vampire, especially not something as domestic as friendships.
But I somehow ended up with a friendship anyway.
I turned over, mashing my face into the pillow.
This mission kept getting more and more complicated.
-
It’s exhilarating to have covered so much distance so quickly, Paul thought to himself, as he ate in a diner in Kansas City. If Paul had known he could run to Missouri from La Push in two days, he would’ve done it long before now.
He bit into his fourth burger, chewing happily. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been all on his own, but he knew he’d certainly never been this far from home.
He’d only ever lived in La Push and Tacoma. His memories of Tacoma were just as scattered as those of his mother, and considering the last time he’d seen her had been there, it made sense.
Paul sat back in his chair, the burger suddenly tasting like cardboard.
His parents divorced when he was eight. He remembered the loud sounds of their arguments floating through his closed bedroom door after he’d gone to bed.
The first and second times he asked his dad why he was fighting with his mom, his dad changed the subject. The third time, his dad let out a heavy sigh and looked so sad that Paul was the one to change the subject.
When Paul’s dad sat him down and explained that he and Paul were moving to the reservation without his mom, Paul ran to his mother and begged her to make up with his dad so he could stay in Tacoma.
All his mother said was: “It takes two to fight.”
She hadn’t even fought for Paul to stay or asked for partial custody. She’d only tried to force blame onto her soon-to-be ex-husband.
Paul shook his head, dismissing thoughts about his mother. If he thought about her for too long, the thin ropes leashing his emotions about the past wouldn’t be enough.
All of the sudden, Paul felt a sharp tug in his navel.
It was so sudden and painful, Paul lurched forward in his chair, gripping the top of the table.
It was starting.
The wolf was fighting for control.
Paul tried to breathe through the pain, but his strength meant nothing in the face of this kind of pain.
He glanced out the window to see the sun still setting. The moon hadn’t even come up yet, and he could already feel it.
“Hey dude,” the apathetic waiter said, making Paul jump in surprise. “We’re closing.”
“Yeah,” Paul managed, “I’ll clear out.”
Paul’s movements were methodical and forced as he packed up his stuff, threw away his trash, and stepped outside the door into the humid night air. The employee locked the door behind him. Paul tried his hardest to step off the curb and keep heading east until he found a private space to shift and continue his journey.
But he couldn’t do it.
The only thing Paul could do was stand still on the same spot on the sidewalk, defending his autonomy with every fiber of his being as the wolf fought for control.
The moment that moon actually rose, it would be over. There would be no communicating with the wolf and no reasoning with it. Their brains would be one and the same, and Paul would have one priority and one only.
Paul tried to prepare himself, but as soon as the first sliver of the moon appeared on the horizon, it was like a bucket of ice water being tipped over his head.
Oh, what had he done?
How could he have raised his voice at his imprint? How could he have run away instead of making it right? Being so far away from the one whom his whole world revolved around, it deeply wounded him. He needed to get to her, to his entire reason for breathing. He had to apologize, to hold her close, to beg for forgiveness.
There was nothing else that mattered.
He took off running.
-
Crash.
I froze outside of the patient room I’d just been passing. I rapped my knuckles against the door. “Are you okay in there?”
There was no response.
I pushed the door open to see an elderly male on the floor, clearly having just fallen out of bed.
“I need some help here!” I called towards the nurses’ station, rushing inside as best I could. I checked the man’s neck for a pulse and found none.
I started chest compressions just as a nurse and a CNA barged into the room. The CNA left and returned with a respiratory pump, kneeling on the floor to gently blow air into the man’s lungs. “What’s the patient here for?” I asked in between compressions.
“He was admitted for coronary heart disease.” The nurse kneeled as well. “Dr. Cullen wanted to wait to see if it cleared on its own before trying a procedure.”
“Well, it hasn’t cleared,” I panted, continuing compressions. “Switch.”
The nurse got into position, taking over compressions while I hit the code blue button on the wall.
-
By the time the moon was directly overhead, Paul was already nearing Salt Lake City. Somehow, he’d managed to cover distance twice as fast as before.
He was powered by love, he just knew it.
The bungee cord feeling Paul’d gotten when he imprinted, it was as if the bond had hit its maximum distance and was now recoiling, pulling Paul back to the place where he belonged with great speed.
Why had he ever gone so far in the first place? What place could he ever be if he was far from those lips that pouted when she was deep in thought? Or frowned when he made some insipid comment? What place could he ever be happy without those eyes that betrayed her thoughts when she schooled the rest of her face into passivity? Without her sharp wit and determination, what life could he lead that could be worth living?
Oh, Y/N.
He heard her name in every footfall, every gust of wind, every bird call.
Y/N.
Y/N.
Y/N.
-
“It’s been hours, and his stats aren’t going up,” I said to the house supervisor. “At this point, we have to put in a stent if he’s going to make it to tomorrow.”
“We’re not qualified for that,” she replied, wringing her hands. “We don’t have the space, nor the personnel to staff an OR.”
“Then what’s the nearest hospital capable?”
“Olympic Medical Center, but it’s 60 miles away!”
“Then you’d better call for a helicopter!” I snapped. The house supervisor fled the room, and I turned back to the patient. I pursed my lips, willing him to live, to hang on just a little longer.
-
The pressure on Paul’s heart steadily increased, but Paul didn’t care. Even if it burst in his frenzy to get to his imprint, he still wouldn’t care. Without her, there was not a single thing his heart could be used for anyways, and running towards the woman he loved was certainly the best thing to be doing when he died.
He only sped up as he passed the state border of Idaho and Washington.
-
Considering my limp, I was not a good candidate to roll the stretcher up to the roof, but I did it anyway. I’d been keeping this man alive all night, I was not about to desert him now.
The roof was freezing, and when the helicopter landed on the roof, the wind generated by the blades only made it colder. Still, I limped right up to the medical personnel in the helicopter, relaying all the important information as the patient was loaded inside.
“Are you coming with us?!” the man shouted.
My heart leapt. “Can I?!”
The man nodded. “Yeah, but you gotta decide quickly.”
I could just say yes.
It was at the tip of my tongue. It would be so easy to just go, to supervise and make sure that the man was well taken care of and that he made it to surgery before his time ran out. Plus, I would be in the air. There was no vampire species I was aware of that could fly, so I’d be safe from the vampire.
But then I thought of the wolves circling the hospital, the wolves that had been watching over me. How much would I worry them by jumping into a random helicopter and flying to Olympia? If Emily heard about it, how disappointed would she be?
And if Paul heard about it, how much would he yell at me?
I groaned, pushing away from the helicopter. “I’m staying!” The nurse helped me wheel the empty bed towards the elevator, allowing the helicopter to take flight.
And it did.
I couldn’t help but feel disappointed as I watched it go. I should’ve been happy, because my patient was on his way to the medical care he desperately needed. I just couldn’t help wishing that I had the freedom to go too.
“Are you coming in?” the nurse asked.
“I’m staying up here for a few minutes. Page me if you need me.”
The nurse nodded and left.
The sky was lightening, but while sunrises normally instilled some sense of peace, I was frustrated.
I’d done something. I hadn’t just slept on a horribly uncomfortable couch and lounged around for a day. I’d used my knowledge to save a life, which was exactly what I wanted to do every day for the rest of my life.
And then came that moment when these stupid werewolves got in the way yet again of something I needed as much as breathing. The frustration thrashed in my chest like a rabid animal. I’d been here for over a month, and I’d taken one step forward and what felt like twenty steps back.
So I was going to stay on the roof. I was going to stay until the thrashing stopped.
-
Paul shifted, pulling his shorts on and throwing the bag aside. He didn’t care about such things, not when he’d finally reached Forks General Hospital.
But before he could step up to the edge of the parking lot, a force hit him from behind, causing him to crumple to the grass. “Get off!” he shouted, twisting and flailing.
He shifted back into his wolf form and broke free, whipping around to face whoever stood in between him and Y/N.
A russet brown wolf stood there, a wolf he recognized as Jacob Black.
What are you doing? he spat at Jacob.
Keeping you from doing something you’ll regret.
Paul dashed for the hospital. For a moment, he thought he’d successfully made it around Jacob…until Jacob tackled him from the side, and the two went rolling. The full moon makes you even dumber, Jacob noted with a strange sort of glee.
Paul wanted to rip his friend’s head off for not only keeping him from his heart’s desire but for laughing at him in his misery. He squirmed and fought as hard as he could, but every time Paul tried to get closer to the hospital, there was Jacob, dragging him back. Once, Paul nearly set a paw upon the asphalt of the parking lot, but Jacob collided with him from the side, forcing him back again.
Let me by! Paul screamed. I need to see her!
Y/N’s okay, man, she’s safe and well. But you can’t see her right now.
Paul growled, and giving up on the notion of sneaking past Jacob, he launched himself at Jacob instead. Don’t tell me when I can or can’t see her! The two werewolves went rolling right into a tree, causing the thirty foot tall tree to groan and lean to the side.
Multiple voices of his brothers calling his name and trying to reason with him swarmed into Paul’s head, but Paul was well beyond reason.
I’m sorry for this, man, but it’s gotta be done. Before Paul could react, Jacob’s teeth clamped down on Paul’s shoulder, and Paul howled in pain.
-
I was about to head back into the elevator when I heard it.
A howl.
The blood in my veins ran cold. Something was happening, something to do with the werewolves patrolling the hospital to keep me safe.
My thoughts immediately went to Paul. With all the wolf’s imprint instincts in his mind, he was the one most likely to do something stupid in an effort to keep me safe.
I ran into the elevator, jamming the button as I pulled out my phone.
“Hello?” said Emily’s voice.
“It’s Y/N. I think something’s happening in the forest beside the hospital. I heard a howl.”
“Sam’s already on his way there, but you need to stay in the hospital where it’s safe.”
“Emily, I’m the one medically trained! I’m the one that can help!”
“Not if it’s the vampire,” Emily said. “If it’s the vampire, leaving the hospital would be the most dangerous thing you could do.”
I jammed the ‘door open’ button repeatedly. “If someone is injured because they’re trying to protect me, I’m not just going to stand by and let them suffer!” Before Emily’s response could filter through my phone’s speakers, I hung up, shoving the phone into my white coat’s pocket.
When the elevator doors opened, I took off.
Sunlight poured through the windows, giving the hospital lobby its ordinary sallow glow.
I didn’t even make it out of the front doors of the hospital before Sam was there, standing in my way with no shirt and arms folded.
“Let me through!” I snapped, not even bothering to try physicality. “If someone’s injured, I can help!”
Sam’s expression didn’t shift from its stony state. “Right now, you need to stay back.”
“If someone’s injured, I can help!”
“Paul will be fine,” Sam replied.
My heart leapt into my mouth. I knew it, I knew Paul was the one to do something stupid and almost get himself killed. I desperately clung to my last shred of common sense. “If the vampire injured him because he was trying to protect me–” I croaked.
“That’s one of the hazards in our occupation.”
“One of the–” I bit down on my lip, trying to keep my temper from flaring. “Paul needs help!”
“Yes. Our help.” Sam made a shooing gesture. “Go finish your shift.” I didn’t budge, glowering at the alpha.
The lobby doors behind Sam opened, and Jacob came through. “We got him back to La Push,” he said. Then, he stopped short, just noticing that Sam wasn’t alone.
“What happened?” I asked Jacob, my voice dangerously soft. “Tell me.”
For some reason, Jacob chuckled. “Paul’s okay.” Was he being…glib? One of his best friends was hurt, and he seemed to be smothering a smile.
“Somehow I doubt the vampire would leave Paul ‘okay’.”
Jacob cut a strange look in Sam’s direction, and Sam gave a minute shake of his head. “Don’t worry about it,” Jacob said. “We’ve got it all under control.”
Sam folded his arms. “Go back to work, Y/N.”
“You’re not my alpha,” I said with a sneer. “I don’t have to do anything you tell me to.”
Sam cocked his head, and I didn’t even need to ask to know what he was thinking. Why was I fighting so hard to help when I wasn’t wanted?
Suddenly I remembered what Emily’d said about the telepathy. Was Paul experiencing this with them, right in this moment? Did he think that I cared about him?
The thought pulled me up short.
“I’m a doctor,” I said, my voice softer than I’d intended. “It’s my job to help people that are sick and hurting. It’s what I’ve worked for my whole life.”
Sam and Jacob exchanged a look, but neither spoke.
The lobby doors opened again, and in came Carlisle. He slowed to a stop when he noticed the three of us. “Sam,” he said with a nod.
Sam matched his nod. “Carlisle.”
Carlisle’s eyes traveled over the two werewolves before reaching me. “Y/N, how was your shift?” he asked.
I hesitated, not sure if I wanted to let Carlisle’s entrance distract me from the situation.  But getting close to Carlisle was always my goal, and I wouldn’t let anything ruin that. “The patient in room 203 was airlifted to Olympic Medical Center for a stent replacement.” A smug smile formed on Sam’s face, and I wanted to scratch his eyes out. As I continued relaying the details, I heard the lobby doors open and assumed Sam and Jacob were rejoining the pack.
It was only when Carlisle and I reached the elevator that I realized I didn’t know if the rogue vampire had been caught or not.
But right at that moment, I found it hard to care.
