I have come up with a better metaphor than “you can’t pour from an empty cup” for burnout. You can’t boil an empty kettle. Pouring from an empty cup just gets you nowhere. Trying to boil an empty kettle can ruin the kettle, the stove, and burn down your house if you keep trying it.

He looks absolutely massive. And fierce! The head/mouth shape is really pretty (and the spiky tongue from the scene where Jason's trying to change forms in the bathroom! Again, the detail!).

The feathers framing or crowning the head is a really neat idea. I like the softness they add in contrast to, well, Jason's everything else. I also like your idea of him leaking heated ectoplasm from his ribs like a wound.

(Jason, at least how I envisioned him in Imprint, is pretty fluid in the form he takes and can have as many or few limbs as anyone wants to interpret him having at a given time, and at the beginning of the scene you referenced, he was wyrm-like until he needed hands to catch Danny; You nailed it!)

This is my take on one of Jason’s ghost forms as seen in chapter 8 :D

Really he totally should have like… legs… and wings… but I tried to put them on and it looked terrible bc I ran out of space to finish him properly. Also… ribs. And depth. Bones. I could pick this apart for hours but I’m gonna stop at that and settle on yeah it’d look better if I had more space but alas this is the biggest sketchbook I’ve got here in my dorm.

I didn’t do colour bc I don’t have pencil crayons and I don’t trust myself with markers so black and white it is! I imagine that the chest cavity is kinda black and hollow plus the bones (ribcage and spine) and it’s sort of dripping along the ribs and it sizzles out into nothing before it even hits the floor. I imagine there’s a green tint to the places where the skin pulls apart to the cavity.

I tried to put some feathers in here as well but I imagine those are more on the wings so I added some where I’d normally put extra horns n stuff.

I’m gonna go re-read Imprint to get me through finals 👍

I love how he's literally unraveling from his disguise - there's such a sense of 'unleashing' that's so unsettling. The shape and swirl of the shadows leaking out of his body are -chef's kiss- and I love the green pits of his eyes.

And the necklace Lian made him representing their family being the only part of his vessel's appearance that stayed completely untouched is such a good detail?! *tiny voice* oh my god.

I actually have twenty-five chapters of the sequel (currently titled 'And Longer if I Can') written, and it'll introduce a lot of fun characters from the rest of the tmnt universe and will take place when Venus is thirteen and beginning to discover who she is as a person, a sister, a friend and as a ninja.

I haven't posted it yet for two reasons: As you know from reading the first one, I've had a lot of problems with losing or corrupting the original drafts and attempted rewrites for the sequel, so I have a lot of anxiety about working on the current one and have really, really been taking my time with it. The other reason is because I'm having a difficult time deciding how I want to resolve the main conflict of the story.

But, I do regularly work on it between other big WIP's, and of the ones in my folder it has the most work done on it.

(This was actually one of my favorite fics to work on and I never really get to talk about it, so thank you for the ask! <3)

Will you update Imprint ?

I'm really trying to! I was hoping to have chapter 13, at least, up by Imprint's anniversary this Christmas, but I've had to push everything off (including my other WIP's) for a while longer.

Right now, Imprint's tentatively on track to be updated this spring. I'll post the usual 'sneak peek' update here on tumblr when I get closer to getting it published with either an estimate or an actual date to expect the email within.

(Got my hands on a tablet and tried out digital painting (?), and learned two things:

1) I don't know what I'm doing, ever.

2) I don't understand horse anatomy.)

She's tackless because I really got lost in this one, and I'm wiped, but I do have sketches of how her tack and armor would appear in Imprint. She was also almost dappled black and green, like a...is it a black bay? A ghost version of that, but I couldn't figure out how to translate the color or coat, so I went with a very dark but still spooky purple/black.

Mane and tail are kind of goopy because they're a repesentation of fire and ectoplasm, like a burning lava lamp. I also HC her as a Percheron, so she's tall and heavy and has a very proud bearing.

We'll be seeing more of her next chapter.

Anyway, thanks for looking!

There's just a lot going on - and I feel like I say that all the time, but that's just how it is, unfortunately - and having to funnel my energy into the things I need to get done to start the next chapter of my life.

I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:

you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.

a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!
