i wanna talk abt
the CW DC shows
man how far they fell…
Of course this list was prompted by the fact that the Flash is coming to an end, signaling the end of an era.
There’s a multitude of reasons why these shows went in flames:
troubling production, some truly awful plot lines, the racism, the queerbaiting…
however, the highs were so HIGH. Every once in a while, i’ll think about the crossovers and get happy nostalgia tingles. they were so iconic.
the penultimate memorable moments in each of the shows.
From the time Barry first broke the sound barrier, to the time Cisco DIED by Dr. Wells but barry ran so fast he went back in time and undid it, to the time Caitlyn’s dead fiancé came back, fused with an old ass professor, just to die again shortly afterwards 😂😂
From the time Oliver’s mom blew up the city with the help of the man she had an affair with (which ended up killing the guys whole son 🤡), to the time Oliver took Felicity to his mansion and told her he loved her as a mIsDiReCt, to the ENTIRE season 5.
From the time Kara came out as supergirl just to save her sister, to the time that same sister actually came out (which, at 14, was so important to me), to the first time Lena Luther is introduced and every time she’s in screen afterwards. (Season 2 was just *chefs kiss*)
and that’s just the main three. don’t tell me that when you think of legends of tomorrow, a good 5 scenes don’t immediately pop into your head. what a batshit crazy piece of media.
Now there’s a lot of discourse as to what started the spark that caught flame and caused this entire franchise to explode as horribly as it did.
some say that Barry going back in time and fucking with the timeline ruined it
some say that the beginning of the end was the batwoman show, one of the hottest messes to come out of the CW’s ass since riverdale’ third season
some even blame the death of captain cold. a very VALID complaint
regardless of what you think, i believe that now that the arrowverse is coming to it’s inevitable end, it’s a good time to look back and reminisce. With the writers strike happening (show your support btw), and the fact that streaming services are unwilling to release seasons with more than 10 episodes, i cherish the time i spent with these shows even more. i grew up with them (for reference, i was born in 2003, so i was 9 when arrow came out for the first time). My dad had the first 3 seasons of Arrow on dvd.
Iris was one of the first black women I saw on screen after transitioning out of my disney channel phase. And she wasn’t a side character or anything, she was a main character and the love interest of the superhero. regardless of what you think abt iris as a character, that shit just wasn’t the norm back in 2015.
When sara lance kissed the daughter of the head of league of assassins in front of her ex-boyfriend, and it was as just another tuesday in star city. such an important scene.
look, all this to say. I will miss this era***. even if I stopped watching the flash during the 8th season. i didn’t realize how comforting it was knowing it was still out there.
***i know the superman and lois hasn’t officially been cancelled yet. but i’m protecting my heart. cuz it’s a really good show.
Goodbye, Arrowverse

archie and cheryl married but not toni and cheryl?
I made separate categories for “married/engaged/had kids (pre epilogue)” and “dated” because overall the former category seemed to be deemed less important narratively to the plain old “dated” category. The pre-epilogue qualifier was added specifically to keep them out of that category, actually, since Dale would have put them there even ignoring the common-law-marriage vibes. Archie and Cheryl were engaged (for all intents and purposes) but obviously in a very different way than Cheryl and Toni were together
There was an “endgame” line initially but I was running out of distinct colors and was worried that might invite discourse. I also didn’t want to do multiple lines in the same place and wanted to minimize distinct labels for the lines where I could
Because that chart is such a visual disaster already (that’s why I left of Joaquin et al initially. I was going to include them but I got burnt out then. I had something to avoid doing earlier so I was eager to get back to Riverdale Charts).
#sorry chonis#omg tumblr crashed while I was posting this I thought I lost you forever my friend. never fear#riverdale#ask#anonymous#anon#idk what I tag asks off the top of my head idk

I am wayyy behind on catching up on RAS’ post-finale interviews but anyway, here is some out of date content:
You know, coming out of episode [418] last week, where Betty says, "Whatever this was, we have to stop it." I think coming out of that episode we saw that Betty felt really good about recommitting and rejoining Jughead. But Archie felt a little bit at sea after Betty said "let's stop this." So I think in terms of Barchie, I think we’re gonna kind of follow those two paths. In a way, that liaison between Betty and Archie sort of reconfirmed Betty’s love for Jughead, and reconfirmed that Archie’s kind of confused about what he wants right now.
Source
First, hilarious that kissing Archie propelled Betty into recommitting to Jughead (I know it’s not exactly what RAS is saying, but leave to my interpretations, we have all had a long few weeks okay).
Secondly, I liked the insight into Archie’s POV which was frustratingly lacking in 4x18. I was not sure if we were supposed to interpret Archie’s actions as:
Agreeing with Betty that they were basically acting out an nostalgic fantasy that was not real and they had to re-commit to their respective SOs; or
His heart was pointing towards Betty and he was ready to explore something with her & he was crushed and rejected when she was not.
Kind of seems that RAS is hinting at something between (a) and (b) but certainly with Archie’s feelings not being resolved yet. TBH a pining-for-Betty Archie storyline on Riverdale would not at all surprise me, and it would be just their kind of “new twist on an old comic story” that these writers love. I am sure that they are 100 percent aware of the critique of the way Betty & Archie are portrayed in the comics. Ergo, flip the situation around so that Archie is doing the pining, and bonus, they get to parallel the B&A relationship from the Pilot. That is absolutely something Riverdale would do.
Also interesting that RAS seems to be highlighting Bughead going to different schools as their main relationship stumbling block in the upcoming episodes as opposed to the B&A kiss coming out (lol this show, the emotional whiplash). I am definitely here for Bughead navigating the difficulties of a long-distance relationship in college > the B&A kiss being released by the voyeur tapes.
anyway, I just hope that however this is done, it is respectful to Veronica. The heights my raising eyebrows lifted when RAS hinted Archie is going to finish that damn song. Must he.

Even tho 6x1 was an AU, we don't know how close everything gets to the actual storyline, right? Like, TBK is still there, Bughead was dating in highschool, but maybe BA was dating longer than we saw in riverdale. But i was thinking about Betty's line that she always questioned if she would end up with Jug or Archie. Do you think thats the AU or that's how the writers see Betty? i wouldnt put that past them..
as much as this ask feels like it's trying to lead me into discourse over that, i'm not going to tell people what to think about the AU thing since we have b/archies telling us nonstop it's not an AU because roberto said it's canon 4 days after seeing a promo where veronica says there's are two parallel universes while the b/archies also told us the bughead kiss doesn't count because it's in an AU (apparently canon has a fluid meaning to them?) so you can see why i don't really want to get in the middle of all of that based on whoever's interpretation.
however. my opinion of the 'vale stuff is that it's thematic stuff is what's more important than individual lines and you can always count on the writers to fall back on betty making a comment about archie in high school because the most work they ever did on that relationship is in the pilot and they have nothing else to go on.
that's not even me being biased as a bughead shipper, that they had betty use that weirdo creepy baby voice while speaking to him in that episode and cave to his wishes until she, you know, helped kill him is honestly way more hilarious than some random line they had her say while talking to her ex's new gf. what was she supposed to say? we don't even know why they broke up in the 'vale. or how betty and archie got together.
i'm more interested in jughead's comic books tbh. like, when did that become a thing? is it a ham-fisted this season thing to get to whatever arc they're going to be used for so they can point to them later and be like, "see? nailed it!"? personally, i think it'd be cool if they came back up in 6x05, like he's bouncing through comic book stories while trying to figure them out. that's me tho.

Riverdale S5 Ep 11. (The Voicemail Episode) - 5 things I loved/ 3 Things to Consider (potentially, spoilers)
Things I Loved:
1. I loved that Riverdale, this (formerly) teen show, was blatantly making a radical commentary about both religion and male violence, but in this sneaky way with a ‘silly’ looking trippy drugged-out music video. The statement is this: Religion = Drugs = Righteous Violence of Young Men. Marx said that religion is the opiate of the masses, and Riverdale answered, Nah, it's more like shrooms.
And in fact, according to the show, being two sweet girls hanging out dancing and having fun is better than religion and righteous violence. Further, violence is Archie’s drug. I mean this is a set of pretty bold statements, people. I will also add the crazy young man vigilantes of Riverdale making the Batman rope-slide entrance was fabulous, but I also liked that the music made fun of them, like, Y’all think you’re being heroic but this is so dumb.
2. If you read my retread of Seasons 1 through 4 (the true ending, which was “Graduation”) you’ll know that I love scenes of Jughead Jones waking up from sleep. He’s so good at it, and I don't know if my abiding interest in this specific thing elevates this to some sort of kink but I’m ok with that, if it is. (Please tell me in the comments if Watching a Cute Boy Wake Up From Sleep is an actual kink.) In this episode, Jughead is startled awake by a loud noise from a fevered sleep, and then becomes gradually more alarmed at the noises outside and I loved it.
3. This is not an anti-man blog here, so I will try to tread carefully, but I mean, I absolutely loved that the women are so much better than the men at everything in this episode.
Exhibit A:
Penelope’s cult is so much better than Edgar Evernever’s! And she is being so honest - Penelope always emotionally worshiped her son, like a lot of misogynist mothers of sons do, and now she’s literally worshiping him. Also a religion that is founded on a deceased person is much sturdier, I feel, than a religion that is like Worship Me (which is Edgar’s religion). Plus Penelope is echoing what Jughead used to say about Jason - that his death laid bare the sins of Riverdale! There’s robes in Penelope’s religion, colorful ones, singing and communion and imbibing from a magic goblet. (Can you tell I was raised Catholic? I still love statuary, robes and altars SO much).
Exhibit B:
Tabitha and Betty are so much better than Jughead at everything, including getting high! (Jughead is currently just so bad at life he can’t even get high correctly, poor lamb.) They are better at taking care of their domestic lives and are appalled at how Jughead lives. Tabitha modeling openness and transparency for Betty was terrific: She asks Betty for help and makes sure to tell her, though it’s difficult, about that ‘don’t be such a Betty’ comment and the fact that Jughead made a pass at Tabitha, so that she can make her decision to participate with the full set of relevant facts. Betty’s reaction of wtf?? followed by snorting and then moving right on - I like grown up Betty SO much. She knows it’s not true - they always had fun together, did Bughead, so she’s like, That’s a weird thing to say and then SHRUG.
Exhibit C:
Even when burly men are in a violent confrontation in this episode, the mastermind for both teams is a woman - Veronica on one side, Darla on the other.
4. I loved the two voicemails from Jughead. Yes yes, of course I would because #Jughead Stan but also - hear me out! - because they rang so emotionally true for me, and showed the difference between still-adolescent Jughead and the now-more-adult Jughead.
First, the one to Tabitha: These mushrooms make people say & do what they really think, apparently, so Jughead hit on Tabitha because he’s really attracted to her, and his non-defensive, roll-with-punches adult-self apologizing in this abashed but not self-hating way, and the way he is still hopeful that he stands a chance, was lovely.
The weepy, upset voicemail to Betty was expert fan service for the Jughead Stans, but it was thrilling for everyone else too if the HUGE amount of chatter about it is anything to go by. (Not all thrills are pleasant). I think it’s because there was a lot of truth packed into both his voicemail and her reaction (while high, but again, the mushrooms make you tell your truth).
Truth 1: It’s important to express yourself when you’re upset. Otherwise it comes bursting out at the wrong time, like pus from a festering wound, in a way that helps no one and may hurt you the most. Truth 2: Having an ex hung up on you is no fun. Truth 3: Being confronted with an utterance like, I regret THE ENTIRE time I’ve known you, can make you lose perspective, as in, Betty playing that voicemail isn’t a serve on anyone other than herself and Jughead, together, and that’s why the kind Tabitha won’t bring it up again.
There is SO MUCH discourse about that word “bitch” and a lot of it is very well argued, but I feel no urge to pick a side. What *I* have to say about that is, Jughead using that word in that way with that tone definitively marked an end of Bughead 1.0. If there’s going to be a Bughead 2.0, it’s going to have to be really different.
5. I love the character set ups for Reggie and Fangs. Fangs first - is this guy like the world’s most perfect ex boyfriend or what? Fangs is infinitely kind to Kevin. And Reggie - he’s abused by his dad but he is also loyal to his dad, working for “a Lodge” which he doesn’t actually seem to like in the little that he says about it, to ‘pay off’ his Dad’s debt. I like the adult that Reggie has become. “This isn’t high school.” His calm “Nah, the bad guys pay better” felt like a breath of fresh bracing cynical air but then the actor also managed to push my But I Can Fix Him buttons so kudos, to you, good sir.
3 Things to Think About
a)Veronica is told it's the DIVORCE that is making Archie not want sex but please recall that the Riverdale High School is decimated and Archie is in the process of putting his genitals - oops sorry - THE BUILDING back together. He doesn't have a libido without the Riverdale High School building. I've been telling you.
b)Tabitha voluntarily enters into an agreement to lie (by omission) to Jughead about the manuscript handover to Jessica and the playing of the voicemail message. She doesn't know this yet but so far a rule of Riverdale is that you must not lie to Jughead or bad things happen. Interested to see if the rule still holds for Adult Jughead.
c) The show is very much doubling down on the fact that they think using other people’s lives as fiction is absolutely unforgivable. Riverdale absolutely hates drug dealers (which is why the Serpents are alcohol runners, and kicked out drug dealers) and yet even though Jessica is totally a drug dealer that Betty Cooper fake-FBI knows is a drug dealer, AND SHE NON CONSENSUALLY DRUGGED TWO WOMEN WHO SAID NO ALREADY, but the fact that she didn’t want her life used in a fictional outlet trumps literally everything.
#Riverdale Positivity#riverdale s5#Jughead Jones Voicemail#Bughead Voicemail#Season 5b is FINALLY airing in my region and I am so thrilled to be getting my Riverdale content again#i love this show so much#it cheers me up and distracts me from the badness in the world#and it's great! i love riverdale without irony or distance or sneering#these are also getting really long again#why can't i be concise

Harley Quinn anon here; It's seems they were both targeting both the writer and the bi person around the same time the whole 'Ivy is a lesbian' discourse started, it just happens the bi person was at the wrong place at the wrong time. It just one of those thing that got blown out of proportion (as always on the internet). I guess the people angry at the writer maybe got too involved with the DC alternate universe comic DC Bombshells where they made a few characters lesbian instead of their current canon sexuality? (I'm trying to figure out why a bi character existing isn't the right type of 'gay' for some so called fans) I do agree with you on the Winn side of things In regards to the Supercorp thing; The other shows made by CW are absolutely terrible at writing romances for both het couples and lgbt couples (Riverdale). And in general their overall storytelling is rushed and rarely consistent with with their characters (*coughs* Kara being capable of kicking her cousin's arse *coughs*). So as much as I love Supercorp, I know the CW would just make it shit as the show is now (thank god for fanfics) Lar Gand aka Mon El and tv Mon El aren't the same person in a lot of ways. Same with Maggie Sawyer; in the comics she's a divorced lesbian with a kid. They've kept some of his hot headedness but really, as someone commented on the previous ask, he is Superman's Dick Grayson.... up until the rebirth canon... they did the Legions real dirty including my boy Lar Hell even in the recent comic canon (not rebirth) on Prime Earth Lena Luthor is a decent person (she hasn't committed crimes unlike her alt earth), though I think she has cancer or something? I'll double check that Anyway, I guess I'm just annoyed about the petty bullshit and just how the CW has handled all of their DC content. It's an unnecessary shit show during a pandemic :/
We love cancel culture... It's beautiful, how people take htings out of context and blow thing out of proportion to hate on the others and even don't give them space to learn things or dunno, change their minds or simply having different opinion that still can be correct.
I remember the Bombshells and them making some version of Kara lesbian and dating Lois and that was used as a proof sc endgame. That were the easy years.
I don't watch other shows, so I don't know. Sometimes i see Avalance on my dash and most people are happy about them, but some complain. You can't make everyone happy, I guess. But I have zero knwoledge about other CW shows (minus SPN, LOOOL)
But you know, CW in general sucks in the shipping and couples department. Is there a show that made them right?
As for the storytelling, especially in SG, I blame Jessica and Rowner (Rovner? too lazy to check). They both had zero knowledge or LOVE for comic books and it shows. Gossip Girl Woman should have not have been involved in a show based on comic books, end of story. They seriously have no idea what to do with KARA, not only every other charcter.
On the other hand Kara kicking Kal's ass was in AK's era (fuck him very much). Am I the only one annoyed how Kara's biggest strenght is her personality, compassion etc? And that her physical strenght is important and yay for kickng asses, but that's not the core of her strenght???
Yeah, I know they fucked up Mon Mon and he is not like his comic book selves, but I still I enjoyed him very much. Still annoyed how they erased his allergy easily, because him struggling with health is one of his nice flaws in the comic, ignored the Daxam - Krypton issues and made it "Daxam bad, Krypton good" thingy and erased his historian-engineering kinks? Plus, Imra???? I can't imagine being a comic book fan and not breathing fire.
The worst thing is Chris would absoulutely NAILED that Mon-El TT
Somewhere she was decent but on wheelchair, I think and of course we could have not gotten that.
I think you are not teh only one.
It did, and I feel you. Also, it's super nice to exchange thoughts with not typically butthurt sc stan here, so thanks :D

I will never get over how she went from putting Betty on suicide watch after Jughead’s “death” to a week later being all ~that looked pretty real to me, cousin~ and then another week later gave Betty a speech about how Jughead was The One. I mean, I was grateful for her “dare I say it, maybe even endgame” speech but, like, she was definitely just the voice of the writers at that point. I understood what drove Cheryl when she was the villain/grieving for Jason. I even understood what drove Cheryl in the early days of the Choni relationship. But this season especially, she just seems to be whatever the writers want her to be week-by-week.
cheryl goes from being the best person ever to being.... well, to be mean-girl-cheryl-who-loves-drama in seconds, is like she has a switch: like when she told all the school about betty and archie kiss and then goes to tell veronica (it was their plan, but she didnt know that). "Even though you’re also the one who told Betty she was harboring feelings" yeah, mean-girl-cheryl at full xdd
I will probably change my mind 5 seconds after posting this, but i think Cheryl might actually be the worst written character on the show? 90% of what she says and does makes no sense. There is no internal consistency. She changes personality from scene to scene.
IMO she was at her most interesting in season 1, when she was more or less a villain in semi-opposition to the core 4. It was a huge mistake to then try and humanize her and make her a protagonist to root for. It just...doesn't work. (YMMV, I know plenty of people love her and would strongly disagree with this. To all of you who I just described: I am not interested in a debate.)
#unsurprisingly I agree with imreallyloveleee#I miss villain Cheryl#her treatment of Betty in early season 1 was BRUTAL#but created interesting character dynamics and foils#important riverdale discourse

5x06 Reaction
JARCHIE!!! I missed their interactions so much... like honestly in S4 they barely spoke. I’m loving the “roommates” dynamic.
Ok the kevin/fangs/toni apartment(?) is... amazing!!
I love how they hired actual teenagers (or close to it) to play the high school kids... since all the “teachers” were playing high school students, what, 3 episodes ago??
Ok mechanic Betty is SO HOT
DORITOS I AM CRYING AT THIS PRODUCT PLACEMENT
Veronica’s taking over the Blue Velvet!!! Why not reuse that set lmao
Thoughts on this initial barchie interaction:
I’ve seen all the discourse about it seeming like Archie doesn’t care about Betty’s problems, or not taking them seriously, and people comparing Archie’s “oof - that sucks” to jughead’s “white noise” speech in 1x08 (which I thought was cringy AF and I even liked b*ghead at the time) and here’s what I’ll say:
His “oof - that sucks” comment as MATCHING Betty’s tone - she says it kind of matter of factly and with a bit of an eyeroll, she does NOT seem very upset about it, and she is a grown ass adult who DOESN’T need Archie’s condolences in that moment - and Archie knows that.
She then brings up Polly, and Archie ASKS A FOLLOW UP QUESTION: “didn’t your mom say she does this? Takes off for a couple of days” which shows that he is referring to a previous conversation about this - they’ve BEEN talking about it and he DOES care (not to mention they showed that he had texted her about Polly at the end of the last episode)
She says she’s trying not to panic - because she knows this is something Polly does and may not actually be in danger - SO HE OFFERS A DISTRACTION during a time when she is basically asking for one, and then SHE COMES UP WITH THE IDEA OF WHERE TO GO HAVE SEX
Anyway I have argued with enough people on twitter about this lol.. I feel strongly. Also, this scene was super cute and both Archie and Betty look so good in it.
I love Tabitha. Smart, enterprising, witty... I’m all for the Jugitha pairing. (seriously though, is a ship name decided for them? I’ve seen Tabhead and Jabitha as well, lol.
Uhhhhh ok this car sex scene? It somehow feels even more explicit than the shower scene?? The moaning and breathing?? HOW DARE THESE STONEWALL KIDS INTERRUPT THIS
LMAO NIGHT JOGGING
Is it just me or is Sheriff Keller looking really hot? Silver fox??
I have to note that Archie’s hair colour looks SO BAD in this whole episode but especially this football scene with the Reggie confrontation. It’s like, almost burgundy? But somehow bright orange at the same time? I hate it.
Ok Cole is absolutely nailing this “down on his luck, beaten down” adult Jughead. His character is funny all the sudden?? I love that he kept the money in the tip jar like OF COURSE
Ok Chad coming into Veronica’s class HE’S THE WORST!!! And then SITTING AT THE BACK I HATE HIM SO MUCH FOR THIS
Alright, now we have another scene that has people talking, which is where Archie meets Chad. My thoughts:
Archie clearly sizes up Chad. I mean, he dated Veronica for 3-ish years (in the show’s timeline) so yeah, it’s normal to meet your ex’s new partner and size them up. It read more like “he thinks Chads a douche” as opposed to “he’s jealous of Chad because he wants to be with V”.
They show makes a point of showing Betty’s reaction to them meeting. THIS SHOT IS NOT RANDOM. Yes, I’m sure the show will go there, she’ll get jealous of V at some point. Betty thinking that Archie is jealous of Chad is not the same as Archie actually being jealous of Chad.
I kind of loved how Chad just jumps in here to join in the karaoke night - he didn’t redeem himself from the previous scene where he SAT IN THE BACK OF HER CLASS WHILE SHE WORKED but I like how they’re not playing him completely evil
Next scene: BETTY AND TONI ARE TALKING!!! I REPEAT!!! BETTY AND TONI ARE TALKING!!! Seriously, it’s so refreshing that they’re actually letting all kinds of new dynamics and character interactions happen this season.
Also, NEDSLIST!!!! THIS SHOW!!!!
I am living for Cheryl being completely beautiful whilst yelling at construction workers.
So like... she actually doesn’t have that much money. She couldn’t really afford the donation for the school... I kind of wish that once she says “I can’t afford it” people would like, not keep pushing? I’m looking at you Toni, whom I absolutely adore, I just wish the writers didn’t make it like Cheryl’s being squeezed dry. I get that it’s needed for plot purposes but I don’t love it.
Kevin and Betty are friends again!!! Love it!!!
Karaoke night thoughts:
At no point is Jughead hanging out or interacting with the rest of the group. He stays separate from them - with Tabitha, which I appreciate, but I am just noting this because I’m sure it was done purposefully.
“She probably forgot it’s Gekko now” uhhhh didn’t Toni announce V as “Veronica Gekko” in the last episode?? LOL THE SHADE
I love Veronica’s voice
Ok so Chad actually comes off so great in this scene?? I guess this is part of his manipulation - come off as such a great guy in front of all her friends to get them to like him?
Jughead’s reaction to the duet is so me every time I’ve watched people do karaoke lmao
During the “or do you need more? Is there something else you’re searching for” they cut to Archie’s and Betty’s reaction. Archie is not thinking about V in that moment.
I am not seeing one iota of jealousy from Archie. He looks genuinely happy for them.
This Chad and Veronica bed scene makes me uncomfortable. But I’m glad they’re showing their softer moments!
The Archie/football recruitment sequence... Chad in the back of Veronica’s classroom again??? HOW IS THIS HAPPENING I HATE THIS!! Also, this is another scene where Chad looks jealous of Archie... not the other way around.
Britta!!! I love her. And I feel like the writers inserted her in specifically for Britta Lundin, former Riverdale writer and acclaimed author (read her book Ship It, seriously, it’s so good), and I love that. BUT THE WAY ARCHIE LOOKS AT BETTY IN THIS SCENE IS THAT EVEN LEGAL
We get the first glimpse Toni’s “Operation Bring Cheryl Out Of Hiding” plan here, when Archie asks her for funding for the football team and says its earmarked for something else (hmmmmmmm... this plan has been in the works for a while... and I’m here for it)
Ok. This scene where Archie goes to ask Cheryl for money is... a mess. My first reaction is that it was so OOC for Archie to bring up Jason in that way. Then I got to thinking... Archie probably would want to honour his dad in that way and was genuinely suggesting that as something that might actually be helpful to her, as opposed to purposely trying to manipulate her. He knows what it’s like to lose a family member, he just didn’t realize that Cheryl doesn’t grieve in the same way. The boy doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body. Anyway, now he’s been banished from Thornhill! But don’t we see him (and everyone) there in a bts photo from possibly 5x08? Isn’t that at Thornhill? Will this be addressed or will the writers just forget it ever happened?
I love Betty and Kevin investigating together. It’s so refreshing.
Ok this place Jughead is going to is legit the creepiest shit I’ve ever seen. I am having trouble making myself care about this “Mothmen” plot??
Betty’s “Straight to the Point” interrogation style is actually effective in this truck stop stakeout scene.
Alice again with her wine... I wonder if there will actually be an “Alice is an alcoholic” storyline or is the wine just part of her personality now?
Ok like it’s so inappropriate for a teacher to be wearing an HBIC shirt BUT I AM HERE FOR THIS DRAMATIC VIXENS HALLWAY WALK!! And Toni is correct, Cheer is a sport so sit down, Archie. Notably Toni adds in “not even Cheryl managed to do that” - I’m thinking she new Ms. Bell would be eavesdropping ;)
WHY IS THIS PORTAIT OF JASON WORTH SO MUCH??
Is this Minerva character going to be important?? I keep seeing people talking about how she and Cheryl are going to hook up but is that just because she’s a female character who interacts with Cheryl? I’m not seeing it yet but hey, it’s Riverdale.
JUGHEAD BRINGING UP THE EPIC HIGHS AND LOWS OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL I SCREAMED
Seriously though, since we know Jughead wasn’t there when Archie said that, there’s two options: Either Archie told him he said it, or (my preferable theory) Archie used to just SAY THAT REGULARLY and has said it in front of Jug lmao.
Chad again seems legit supportive when she tells him about her jewelry store plan?? THEY’RE SO UP AND DOWN!!!
Ok, so Betty is an FBI agent (trainee, whatever) and she JUST NOW THOUGHT OF TRACING POLLY’S CELL PHONE
This scene... when Veronica finds out Chad has been talking to Hiram behind her back... this is where she decides she’s done with Chad.
Another scene with Archie - I am still getting zero vibes that he’s into Veronica? And zero vibes that Veronica’s into Archie? It makes complete sense that Veronica would want to help the bulldogs. Chad is a total dick here and is definitely threatened by Archie... again, not the other way around. Side note: Chad, if threatened by Archie, is a TOTAL IDIOT for suggesting Archie renovates the Pembrooke - like, he’s going to be working? All the time? Where Veronica is staying? And probably taking his shirt off because he’s sweaty from all the working?? WHYYYYY WOULD CHAD ENCOURAGE THIS
This little flirty scene between Jughead and Tabitha (and it’s the first that I would say has any flirty undertones whatsoever) is pretty cute.
THIS BARCHIE PORCH SCENE I HAVE THOUGHTS
The fact that people are suggesting Betty showed up there because she wanted to talk to Jughead is SENDINNNNGGGGGG
Let’s be clear, she only asked about Jughead so she could make sure he wasn’t home so that she could bone Archie. There is no other interpretation for this.
THIS IS THE BEST BARCHIE KISS TO DATE
They are playing the song from the porch scene in the pilot... DON’T TELL ME BARCHIE IS MEANINGLESS WHEN THEY ARE USING THIS SONG
I think the fact that this is the first time they had sex and we didn’t see it is meaningful - they are showing that the relationship is deepening and they are more than “just sex”
As Betty leaves, Archie looks like he wants to reach out for her and then stops himself - he is definitely falling hard and he’s afraid Betty isn’t feeling the same way
Ok, Cheryl is straight up wearing lingerie in Toni’s office!!! And the red lipstick is back - notably, throughout the entire show, she has worn the red lipstick as a kind of shield - she never has it for her “vulnerable” scenes. Seems like that is still happening. AND this is where we see Boss Toni’s plan come into fruition - she started up the vixens and MADE SURE CHERYL FOUND OUT ABOUT IT because she knew that was the one thing that would make Cheryl come out of her Thornhill hiding spot. Well played, Toni.
Archie and Veronica announcing the bulldog funding... again, I’m not seeing ANY “romantic/attraction” vibes here? He does react when she says her last name is Lodge again but like, anyone would?
MS. BELL YOU GOSSIP I’M OK WITH YOU REPORTING TO CHERYL BUT I DRAW THE LINE AT HIRAM
Is Reggie... filing his nails? Lmao
I really hope Polly isn’t dead?? Like I very much want a Polly redemption story!!
Sooooo I guess Archie and Jughead are both going to die in this fire? Lol... well... they’re main characters so I’m sure they’re good.
I’m doooone for this week! So far really enjoying the timejump? Obviously because of barchie but also, everyone is just - better.
Well this turned out to be a novel. If you made it this far, thanks for reading :)

Why are Bugheads automatically called racist for not wanting to multiship their characters? Especially after the show had Jughead say what he needed, a friend, and she appeared to be fine with that. There doesn’t appear to be any romantic feelings there. You reported that Evan said just friends. There are nice Bugheads who simply don’t want to multiship, that isn’t a crime. They do not bother anyone.
this discourse is so complicated.
obviously not every bughead/b*rchie/whatever shipper is racist/homophobic/etc, of course not, and i would like to think most of them aren’t, but it’s the way sometimes the story lines are pursued and people of color cast to roles where they will be stepping stones for white straight ships. this is not exclusive of riverdale; a lot of shows do the same thing.
racism/homophobia (and sexism) are inherent traits of every community and the media isn’t different. you see, you could have cast a white girl to play tabitha and “get between” bughead, but they didn’t. they wanted the rep points and, again, they give people fuel to call a woc a stepping stone character again. they could not have turn veronica’s character into a latina - they did, which granted made her more interesting, but now many out there ignore her as actual competition with betty in the “fight” for archie. they didn’t have to make reggie asian, but they did, and this downgraded his character to be less important than he was in the comics, and he gets zero backstory. they didn’t have to make all the pussycats woc but they did and immediately they went to the background. so they have all these characters and relationships but they only give a chance to the white characters - and they only give a chance to the white ships.
and the fandom and the media do that too! it doesn’t matter if you ship bughead or not, there is a problem with how they write and disregard their poc characters; no reasoning, no backstory, no depth, etc. they are, and i recognize the effort, trying to do better. but they’re still failing at that.
so like, it’s obviously not a crime that you want your ship together and that you don’t want any road blocks for them, but it’s also a valid discussion that when a woc is added in the mix and immediately becomes a problem because she’s either there to “prop up” a ship or she’s there to “be a stepping stone”; she’s immediately put in a box where she’s not a character, she’s just something that exists to bother that ship. people were saying this before they even got to know tabitha. we know there was a lot of problems with vanessa, as well, back in s2.
so yeah, while i totally agree that shipping a ship and not wanting another one in it’s place - i’ve been called racist myself for not supporting archosie back then, for example - it is a valid discussion to recognize that they do these characters dirty. they did josie so dirty, having her date archie just so she could get more than 10 minutes screentime before writing her off, having archie into veronica the entire time, instead of actually writing a compelling story for her. they did reggie so dirty because they never even gave the audience a chance to sympathize with him in the fight for veronica. etc.
so, i guess what i think is, you don’t have to support jabitha, and jabitha will most likely not happen - evan did say that they were just friends. there’s a lot of talk about them because of another white straight ship - b*rchie, of course - and they are taking advantage of this very serious discourse about how racism is inherent to a tv show and turning it into some kind of leverage against what they consider their biggest threat, which is bughead, because god forbid a latina woman actually be a threat to their ship. and so it goes.
anyway, like i said, no one needs to like a ship, and you’re definitely not a racist just because you don’t; but people do need to recognize that there is something fucked up about how these “passing” love interests are often poc that are inserted in stories and immediately discarded or hated by a fandom just because, and that’s for every ship. and how riverdale needs to realize that if they want points for rep, it can’t be by inserting pocs as character shells whenever they feel like it.
sorry for the long rant!

I FEEL THIS. I accept that this happened and I now have to deal with it, but that does not change the fact that the character arc that brought us to this point was poorly developed. (lol lol “poorly developed” in Riverdale I know, I know, joke’s on me in the first place but here we go anyway)
Yes, they did the fake dating trope and YOU KNOW the writers were patting themselves on the back for the great buildup they did. But... like... also... immediately prior to the kiss, Betty was burning Stonewall Prep to the ground because they dared go after her man? Jughead being unconscious following his braining was the worst 36 hours of her life? And a week later he does not do his homework and she’s kissing Archie. Okay, I grant it makes sense from a fake-feelings-lead-to-real-feelings trope, but from a character perspective, none of this makes any sense.
Sure, Cheryl and Betty explained it to us in 4x18 - Archie is Betty’s “fantasy,” a place where she feels safe when everything is changing and they are all about to graduate. But we never felt that. We were never shown Betty and Jughead grappling with being in a long-distance relationship while at Stonewall Prep (in fact they seemed closer than ever). We were never shown Betty being apprehensive about their upcoming graduation and things changing. We have not seen Betty pine for Archie since.... 1x02? We’ve not seen Betty have any romantic interest in Archie since their kiss in season 2. We literally did not even see Betty and Archie hang out as friends for most of season 4.
I know 4.17 is clearly BS, didn’t watch it, but even many amazing fiction writers wrote post episode stories, it still feels impossible, like our Betty would never doubt her love for Jughead over Archie.
Betty WOULD NEVER.
I am still pissed about it.

thoughts on every cw show you've watched (a dark history i think we both share)
lily i wish you could hear the noise i just made when i saw this. god. okay. i’m going in approximate chronological order here. also an important piece of context is my mom did not let us watch ~adult tv~ until approximately 2010 so even though i am theoretically old enough to remember, like, one tree hill, i did not watch it.
also i’m putting this under a cut not out of shame but because it’s stupidly long but i’m putting the one everyone wonders about at the top (coincidentally i think it’s also chronologically first)
supernatural: meant a whole awful lot to me when i was a teen! ruby supernatural is how i figured out i like girls! i think i said this at the time but dean/cas canon (or. “canon”) means a lot to me not because i think it’s Good but because it was 14yo me’s wildest dream and i think sometimes our wildest teenage dreams deserve to come true. it’s a shitshow don’t get me wrong but it’s one that wormed its way into my brain and that in some ways i still care a lot about. i think it did a lot for my love of stories about families and about choice and free will like it was definitely formative and i’m cool with that. there are definitely dumber things that were formative for me
arrow: watched s1 while it was airing and i think i watched 3-4 total seasons on netflix. hot fucking garbage show. i think they had some interesting ideas in the early seasons - i like malcolm merlyn as a villain, i LOVE roy harper in this, thea queen is one of my favorite characters ever, there are lots of little things i could be kind about - but oliver is just such an irredeemable fucking bastard that it made the show unwatchable. also they put a jewish woman in a gas chamber, which is something i think we as a society need to talk about more???? in conclusion laurel lance i miss you
smallville: when i was in high school i bought the first season of smallville on dvd. i watched about half of it and never finished it. i do think it’s a fun concept tho and i like that it got to serve as sort of like... a proto legends of tomorrow situation where they could just throw random comics characters at you
the vampire diaries: bonnie was hot. idk i watched half a season and got bored
the flash: i watched the first... three-ish seasons while it was airing i think? i have a lot of fondness bc the flash is my dad’s favorite superhero and i genuinely think s1 is a lot of fun but man it went downhill huh. cisco ramon and iris west i love you and you deserve to be in a better show. also dc adaptations stop just randomly doing flashpoint challenge
izombie: rahul kohli i think of you every day. ravi/major was good. i remember not actually enjoying the first season but still being excited when s2 started and then like... not watching it. wasn’t arthur from merlin in this???
the 100: DEEP BREATHS. OKAY. the 100 was very important to me for a very long time and in some ways it still is because the first long fic i ever actually outlined and completed was for the 100, and that matters to me even though the show no longer does. however jesus christ what a fall from grace. like they even went from typical cw racist to just batshit levels of all the isms and phobias you could think of. i genuinely don’t understand how clexa is still in the public discourse at ALL like i get that fandom is overwhelmingly white and decided that they could look past the brownface but the violent homophobia isn’t great! also lily i know you know this but Justice For Jasper Jordan. that’s all
also i used to play this game in seasons 6-7 where whenever i saw an episode recap i would read it and it made me feel insane. did you know that in season 7 they went to a different planet? everyone was cryogenically frozen for like thirty years except for monty and harper (who had a DAUGHTER) and they went to a new planet. i’m not making this up. literal insanity. i’m foaming at the mouth as we speak
legends of tomorrow: i have seen season one of legends of tomorrow approximately six times. my url is a legends of tomorrow reference. i actually haven’t watched since s3 tho like i didn’t have cable/netflix for a while there and just... never caught up. it is such a perfectly ridiculous show. “we need to go back in time to make george lucas make movies so our historian is inspired by indiana jones!” “what if elvis’s guitar did necromancy?” stop wasting my time with talking and show me 45 minutes of that. lots of insane shit. nate heywood i think of you every day maisie richardson-sellers please call me
supergirl: i watched the pilot (fine) and the musical episode of the flash (honestly? pretty fun) and feel absolutely no desire to watch any more
riverdale: i watched the first season of riverdale and the reason i stopped watching was not related to the show itself, it’s because the roommate i lived with at the time who watched with me started making aggressive comments about the show being reverse racist and i removed myself from the situation. i really really want to watch it but i think you need someone to do it With you instead of doing it alone and tam keeps SAYING NO WHEN I ASK so idk maybe one day
crazy ex girlfriend: i never actually watched this but my roommate did and sometimes i would watch with her. there was a very smug quality to this show that really annoyed me? idk how to explain it. would not watch the whole thing tbqh. music was alright tho. i have referenced this moment in this song in way too many conversations that did not call for it
black lightning: i watched season one while it was airing and it was REALLY well done. i hope the future seasons were also good. anissa/grace fucking ruled we love a lesbian/bi relationship AND an interracial relationship with zero white people in it
also some bonus content for people who actually made it this far:
i have the wikipedia page for the cw open right now and i’m looking at all the kids shows, so i want to throw out there that 1) sonic x is the first fandom i remember being in 2) i watched a LOT of yugioh as a kid and i don’t care what anyone says yugioh gx fucking ruled and so did 5ds they really just went “what if we did it ON MOTORCYCLES” and i respect that 3) i watched the legion of superheroes cartoon with my dad and in retrospect it’s just stunningly fucking ugly but i loved it a lot when i was a kid
#waveridden.ask#mountalodiel#this is so long jfkldjsdklfds#ALSO heads up if anyone clicks the readmore:#cw for some discussion of the various isms/phobias that cw shows always seem to have#specifically the paragraph about arrow discusses a violently antisemitic thing that really stuck with me#and the 1oo includes racism/homophobia discussion#so idk just... tread with caution! if you're not in the mood to deal with that today don't deal with it today

I made fun of Jughead yesterday for that One Time he hid behind Betty (and tbf, Nana Rose is very scary, I don’t blame him) but legit one of my favourite Bughead Things is how Jughead will brag about Betty’s abilities to literally anyone who will listen (”MY GIRLFRIEND TOOK DOWN A SERIAL KILLER LAST YEAR” :D) but will also put his fist in your face, like, IMMEDIATELY, if you talk shit about her anywhere near his vicinity. I appreciate that balance. I mean, Jughead knows that Betty can handle herself and does not need saving. But also he is super protective and can’t help himself. bless.
anyway I have been trying to compile a list of People Jughead Has Punched for Betty-Related Reasons. My list includes:
Chuck Clayton
....Chic, I think?
Malachai (you bet I googled “Ghoulie leader” to get that name what a google history I am generating for myself)
Bret
Am I forgetting someone I feel like I am forgetting someone.

Fic Back Friday: Recs
Fic Back Friday
Make a post recommending a fic you love from at least a year ago. Dust off the archives, dig through your AO3 history and share those old fics with newer fans who might not have seen them - and the fans who’ve been around forever and might want to revisit an old fave.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pairing: Buffy/Spike
The Barbverse by Rahirah
“ A saga of sex, violence, violent sex, pizza, gods, demons, ex-demons, ghosts, road trips, black magic, white magic, sorta greyish magic, felonies and misdemeanors, cooking with pig's blood, ethical dilemmas, the importance (or not) of the soul, tying the knot, the care and feeding of small children (demonic and otherwise), life after undeath, the founding of dynasties, the folding of laundry, Ultimate Evil, blood play, channel surfing, true love and (ooh, that word) redemption, in which is explored the question of whether or not one Buffy Anne Summers, vampire slayer extraordinaire, and one William the Bloody, vampire of infinite heart and limited ethics, can reach a certain degree of mutual accommodation after diverse discourses and considerable ass-kicking.”
Riverdale Pairing: Betty/Jughead
A Mustard Stain Over His Heart by Pestilent_orange
“If he had been somewhere else, maybe sitting behind his computer in a booth at Pop's, trying to describe Betty Cooper from a safe distance, he would have said that she smelled like vanilla candles and fresh-baked snickerdoodles and strawberry lip gloss. But the truth of the matter, he found himself thinking as she inched open her bedroom door while he stood very close to her and psychically willed her parents to stay asleep, dammit, stay asleep, because Jughead did not fear many things in this life, but he feared Alice Cooper -- the truth of the matter was that Betty did not smell like those things either.“
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Pairing: Reylo
Cupcake Wars by Crossing Winter
“Entirely by accident, Rey ends up fucking someone who works for Snoke's Cupcakery. She's just blowing off steam. It doesn't mean anything at all. It certainly won't come back to bite her in the ass.”

5 Thoughts on Riverdale’s Time Skip
Hi friends! After FINALLY catching up with Season 4, and the start of Season 5, I have MANY feelings that I need to get out. I’m sure that I’ll have many metas coming your way, but for now I’m going to focus on the the time skip!
1. The Seven Years
Full disclosure: normally I loathe timeskips. I find them to be a lazy way of introducing intrigue into a series that has already had most of their plotlines resolved. For example, Desperate Housewives did a 5 year timeskip, and the bulk of the intrigue can be boiled down to filling in the gaps of what happened in between. It’s an easy way to sprinkle vague noodle incidents and flashbacks... and to kickstart new relationship dynamics. (e.g., what happened that they’re no longer friends? Why are these two divorced now? Who’s the FATHER??”
Riverdale avoids many of these pitfalls given the characters’ ages and that they all went their separate ways after high school. They drifted apart, but there was never a huge blowout that decimated the friend group. Life just happened... and that’s exactly what happens. They don’t have any ill will towards one another... it’s just different. Some people stay close, other don’t... and sometimes people develop new relationships with people you barely talked to previously. And that’s exactly what happens IRL.
Having the time skip be seven years seemed random to me, but now that I watched the show, I can see why they chose that amount of time. Seven years not only allows them to skip over the college years (which makes sense because the main characters were away from the eponymous Riverdale), but it also allows the characters to have a taste of their career goals without pigeonholding them. In my experience, many of my peers pivoted their goals within the first few years after graduating because they realized that their chosen industry wasn’t what they had been expecting. Or they realized that they had different goals... tbh several of my friends moved back to their towns after graduating because they decided they didn’t want that big city life anymore.
2. The actors are age appropriate!!! YAY!
Now the steamy scenes are not as uncomfortable since they’re not portraying underage characters!
3. Toni is finally shining
It’s great to see Vanessa Morgan getting more meaningful screen time! Social work is such a great choice for Toni’s character - and way to finally let her be Serpent Queen!
4. Jughead’s financial issues... it tracks
Idk what the rest of the discourse is on Jughead’s financial issues, but to me they make total sense. He grew up in poverty, surrounded by adults with poor spending habits. His family never had a steady income flow, but when his parents had money, they have been shown to spend it right away - Gladys bought the Cooper house in cash ffs.
Jughead’s chosen profession is not one that allows for financial stability. As a writer, Jughead will have periods where he is making a lot, but he will also have periods when he is not... it’s important to plan for the latter. Sure, he’ll get royalties, but it won’t support him if he’s not smart about budgeting, and we’ve already seen that he spent all of his book earnings already.
5. The Blossom Curse
Yes, it would have been nice to have Cheryl leave Riverdale behind, yes it would have been nice if Choni still sailed... but I’m actually okay with where the writers are taking this. I don’t think that Choni is sunk - just docked for now.
I’m very interested to see where this storyline goes. It caught me completely off guard in the best way... besides, I always love watching Madelaine Petsch ham it up!

I just realized something because of a tumblr post that directly relates to this fandom. Just a warning - Riverdale ship discussion ahead, along with lots of discussion of the inherent misogyny in love triangles/shipping.
This has to do with the actual definition of a love triangle because some of y’all don’t understand shapes. A love triangle involves three (or more) people. I bring this up because, generally, all three of the people involved are interested in the others. For example:
THIS is a love triangle. Tried and true S1 shit, I know. It was the “who gets the guy” discussion, the guy being Archie, the entire notion being inherently misogynistic. The first and second episode in particular had a lot to do with this triangle, until Betty and Veronica vowed to not let boy drama get in the way of their friendship *clink*. The point here involves that one Beronica kiss in the pilot because 1. how can you deny the chemistry they had during that kiss and 2. To deny that love triangles don’t often involve at least one LGBTQ+ person is erasability at its finest. After all, that’s what makes it a *triangle* and not a *corner*.
Here is an example of a love corner, in contrast with a love triangle:
S4 discourse that we all avoid but know we need to make a reckoning with (and the reason there is not a double arrow between Betty and Archie is because she made it clear that she loves Jughead but Archie seemed to remain confused). This is a love corner, mostly because though people deny it, Archie and Jughead just don’t have the screentime together anymore to justify the “bromance” the show tries to sell (this is just the view of this OP, but ship what you will). Usually with dynamics like these, you will find it is the woman who is usually backed into the love corner, and Riverdale makes no exception.
Love corners are inherently toxic and misogynistic when the woman is backed into the corner and so is the specific corner I have shown. Why?
Putting Betty in the corner in the first place assumes that she cannot live her life without a man in it when it has been shown time and time again that she is an independent, badass young woman.
This corner neglects Archie’s current (as of the end of S4) girlfriend, Veronica, who is also an independent, badass young woman. Neglecting the love those two have for each other and neglecting Veronica as a character is once again*deep breath* misogynistic because it’s as if people forget she exists. Women exist, damnit. We’re here, we make up 51% of the population worldwide. We are people and we have feelings, just like Veronica who loves Archie and who Archie loves.
This thrid point is conditional but still important - some would include the second arrow that would signify Betty has feelings for Archie, even after she has verbally expressed that she does not love him more than a friend, and that she does love Jughead and she is in love with him. Including the second arrow between Betty and Archie after she expressed she is not interested in him is once again (say it with me) misogynistic because it ignores Betty’s feelings and sentiments when she has very obviously expressed said feelings and sentiments. (We keep having this conversation and it’s redundant. For people to even say that Betty “still has feelings” for Archie beyond friendship is objectively misogynistic because they are expressing once again that it doesn’t matter how Betty feels so long as she ends up with Archie. At the end of the day, she chose Jughead and to question said decision directly questions her integrity and that’s just disrespectful.)
*sigh* I just needed to get this off my chest. Ship what ya wanna ship and be happy, I’m not tryna push my ship on anyone, I was just proposing a new way to look at some specific shipping dynamics (triangles/corners/what have you). If ya wanna disagree with me or whatever have the courage to do it without hiding behind a grey face, thanks.
(I’m tagging Riverdale Season 4 and Riverdale Negativity for those that maybe don’t want to see this 👍)
