Vampires - and the Curse of Immortality
Tumblr media
Something I notice a lot in vampire-related fandoms is, how harshly my viewpoint on vampires differs from most other people within those fandoms. This might be, because I generally speaking see myself as part of the death positivity movement. And that is a big thing that often gets into conflict with the way how many see vampires.
See, in general vampires originally were horror not just because they drank blood, but because they were immortal. Sure, there was a big religious aspect to it. Because they were immortal and even if they died would automatically either (depending on the exact story) be doomed to wander as a ghost or go to hell, they were cursed to never be able to go to heaven. And that was an aspect of the horror.
But... Even going past it: Immortality is a curse. You do not want to be immortal, even if you think you do. Not even in some magical way in which you really do not suffer any ill consequences from it.
And I mean, vampires already suffer consequences in terms of not being able to go out into the sun and everything.
The reasons for that are quite a few.
For vampires there is just the fact that vampires are the few immortals among mortals. You will be surrounded by people who will die long before you. Live long enough and the world will be unrecognizable to you. You might actually see culture, you grew up in, crumble to dust.
Just imagine the world from the perspective of a vampire who grew up in any old culture. Be it ancient Greece, or ancient Rome, or the Vikings, or any culture outside of Europe, that ended up... well, collapsing in one way or another. Imagine how everything you grew up with is gone suddenly.
And if you live long enough you will see the same thing happening over and over again.
I am talking about this right now, because I have noticed how many people within the Castlevania fandom, do still hope that Lisa will be transformed into a vampire after the end of the series so that this time she is going to be immortal.
But the thing is: The series never answeres the question of why Lisa never became a vampire. But... I think it is pretty clear that the answer is, that she just does not want to be. Because she is intelligent and she knows the downsides of immortality. So, she simply does not want it. And because Dracula actually loves her, he accepts it.
There is probably a reason, too, why most of the vampires we see are rarely older than 500 years.
In Castlevania the only vampire we know to be older than that is Morana. And she is going to be old enough to not have seen one civilization fall, but several, given she is (according tie Katie Silva) a good 3000 years old. And just... imagine. Being so old. What you must've seen. It is going to be hard to not just go insane with all of that. (This is the reason why I write Morana so very weary of humans - she just has seen too much violence done by human hands.)
And while Olrox is just a mere 250 years old, you can also extend this onto him in a way. Given that he has seen his civilization be destroyed (even though his culture survived).
All of that is the reason why I have a tendency to let a lot of vampires die on the long term - or cure them of the vampirism. I mean, in my BG3 stuff, the end scenario is going to be for Astarion to be healed from the vampirism, because... Well, being an immortal vampire actually just sucks. (Doubly so in the DnD world, where it comes with even more drawbacks.)
I mean, all I am thinking is: Looking at some other vampire stories I know... What is the sense of living forever, if you are just miserable?
So, yeah: Unpopular opinion. Dying is okay. It might be preferable to being a vampire forever.

No matter how much time passes, I will never get over this.
A dashing hero brought to his knees by an enemy, crying and begging, capable of abandon 10% children of the world, just to reverse the inevitable death of the man he loves does not want to lose.
...
...
...
The pure despair and the way Jack's voice betrayed him breaks my heart. 😭

post canon au- LWJ cultivates to immortality but WWX, due to MXY not having a strong core, never reaches immortality so LWJ has to watch WWX get old and eventually die again. WWX returned to the underworld and decided to apply for reincarnation but, due to his track record, his case became complicated. The hell judge acknowledged that prior to the body offering ritual, WWX’s soul would never have the chance to reincarnate. Though, due to his actions post body offering ritual, the hell judge 1/6
allowed WWX to reincarnate under certain conditions. For WWX’s first reincarnation, he would not have to drink Meng Po soup. Second, should WWX want to continue to be a cultivator, he would never be able to reach immortality. Third, when his time is up in the living world, WWX’s death would be full of pain and suffering. The last condition involves LWJ and would be up to WWX if he were to tell LWJ about it. Fast forward, WWX reincarnates, finds LWJ, dual cultivate together and LWJ notices 2/6
that WWX has cultivated a strong core to possibly reach immortality but LWJ never brings it up to WWX. During a night hunt, WWX got into a serious accident and WWX knew he was at death’s door. LWJ, with a worried face, held WWX in his arm trying to pass spiritual energy but stopped as WWX revealed his reincarnation deal with the hell judge. WWX revealed that he would not reincarnate with his memories anymore and if he could promise him to find him in his next life. LWJ also found out WWX’s 3/6
suffering as he is dying was not a coincidence and that each death forward will be just as cruel or worse. Horrified and holding back tears, LWJ listens to WWX recall all of their fond memories together as his voice diminishes into a whisper. As WWX’s eyes started to glaze over, WWX whispered to LWJ to not do anything foolish and that he’ll return. It becomes quiet and after a moment, LWJ lets his tears fall. LWJ contemplates if he should renounce his immortality when he finds WWX soul again 4/6
as seeing WWX die twice before his eyes felt 100 times more painful than the strikings he got from the discipline whip. WWX, however, trusted that LWJ wouldn’t be foolish enough to actually give up his immortality and decided not to tell LWJ about the hell judge’s last condition. Should LWJ give up his immortality, WWX would lose his right to reincarnate and his soul would be left to dissipate in the underworld. The deal ensured that, no matter what road he took, WWX would pay retribution 5/ 6
for his wrongdoing from his first life. Sorry for the long ask, love your blog and have a good night <3. 6/6

Sometimes RWBY annoys me
Ozpin was a tragedy. The terrifyingly young headmaster of arguably the most famous of the Huntsman academies, shoved into the place he was in solely because of Ozma.
People conflate them, but they're not actually the same person. Ozpin hates himself, even after death... but there's no real evidence that Ozma does.
He's horrified that he's taking over Oscar because that was never meant to happen, he hoped to be the last just as much as previous Ozcarnations did... maybe even more, considering where he was and the protectiveness he feels for his students. Oscar, given a few years, could so easily be a Beacon student, after all.
He ran, he locked himself away and yet that still wasn't enough to stop the merge. OZPIN did not ask Jinn the question shown and we don't even know just when he was given the particular information that that even happened. Should he have shared it? Yes, maybe. But then again, he'd only known team RWBY and what's left of team JNPR for about a year when they all jumped him for not telling them and we do have canon proof that when he trusts people [Lionheart and Ironwood] they can and do betray that trust for their own reasons.
What's worst? He's fighting a war he no more signed up for than Oscar did, yet everybody seems very set on blaming him, as the last Ozcarnation, for the sins of them all.
Ozpin might be the voice, but that's merely because he was the last. EVERY incarnation of Ozma is a tragedy, it's one of the shittiest reincarnation methods in fiction. 'You'll never be alone', no, but the process gives the new host exactly no choice in the matter.
Basically... Oscar is a victim, but so was Oz. And it's quite likely he might not even have been in double digits when it happened.

Elven: this quirk causes the user to have the characteristics of an elf along with the lifespan of one which causes the user to be able to live up to one thousand years if not killed before then. The quirk has no emitter type abilities and is purely a mutant quirk. The downsides of this quirk are, the quirk has no emitter type abilities, the user will likely outlive anyone they meet. You cannot overused this quirk due to it being purely mutant.
Tbh I wouldn’t want this quirk cuz imagine outliving all your friends and family! It’d SUCK!

"immortality is fine because all your friends die anyway" go to thirty funerals of the closest human beings to you on this earth and see how you like it
"immortality is fine because you change and forget anyways" feel true fear for the first time when you forget your mother's face
"immortality is fine because-" float for fifty billion years in an expanse of space, unable to die but wishing every moment to, going insane because you cannot flee to the land where they all wait for you
"immortality is fine because-" do you know true madness? true madness is death, over and over, every second, in the freezing void sucking out your oxygen and curdling your blood in your veins, yet the divine pulling you back to life again and again because you. cannot. die.
true madness is endless expanse, endless agony, endless death, endless life.
you will never survive immortality.

“No, no, no--”
“--Bronwyn--”
“No, we can fix this. We can fix this. You’ll be okay Calypso, you’ll be ok and we’ll be ok and then--”
“I love you.” Calypso’s hand reached through Bronwyn’s curls with one last smile.
“Calypso, please,” Bronwyn begged, and she no longer knew who she was asking. She didn’t care. God or the devil himself, the navy or the pirate king, she didn’t care. She didn’t care.
“I would go to the ends of the world with you,” her lover whispered. A reminder. A saying. Her last parting words as her hand went limp.
Bronwyn held onto her. It was cold. She could do nothing as she stared at raven hair drenched in blood. She could do nothing as she whispered back an answer unheard, “as would I with you.”
Later, she’ll realize the wounds that fade to quick from her own body. Later she’ll realize the wrinkles on her crew not found on her. Later, she’ll find another who so strongly reminds her of Calypso and she’ll fall and be happy and it will end in tragedy again. And again.
If only Calypso knew how right she was.

Fall of the House of Usher has everything, tbh. Seven Deadly Sins family. Everyone’s queer. No one has a moral compass. Nightmare goblin energy everywhere. The most grotesque deaths you’ve ever seen. Hilarious snark. The hottest women in the world. Carla Gugino in fifteen different wigs. Violent lesbians. Cats coming out on top. Cool tattoos. Orgiastic vibes. Katie Parker being Just A Lady, for once. Terrific hair. A granddaughter who takes no shit. Intimacy issues galore. Storytime. Storytime. Storytime.

Do y’all ever wonder if the reason Luo Binghe was so bad at papapa was because he was the stallion protagonist of a very badly written book with terrible sex scenes that were impossible??
Like. Presumably, the book was from Luo Binghe’s perspective. He just thought he was good at it and no one was brave enough to tell him he wasn’t and it never had anything to do with Bingmei’s celibacy.

Immortality? It was never worth it.
All this time, it's pouring through the sand beneath my feet
Every life, I fight aganst that which I can't defeat
Every soul a burden, getting heavier each time
Will this version too be lost to the voices in our mind?
And am I me, this composition creature I've become
Can't ask for help, it's gone too far and I've become too numb
This destiny I never asked for, but I never can escape
The cycle starts again, must I face again this fate?
He is so young, but every version feels that way to me
Merely a child, shaking, as he asks to be set free
He's not a hero, not a warrior, at least he isn't yet
Just a boy left drowning in my ocean of regret.
My allies see him, maybe, but I cannot trust
They'll let him choose his ending, as each of us must
And maybe, somehow soon at least he'll rest
Of all my incarnations, he feels better, is it best?
To let him have control of that which rests within his reach
And learning from his own mistakes so maybe he can teach
Them to to the next, if next there is, if he is not the last
Oh child, I'm so sorry, this should still have been my task
I swore to end the cycle, I swore to stop the tide
That my breath and choices would leave all of them alive
But power though they offered it, could never heal this world alone
I regret, oh I regret it now... I should have kept the throne.
