FMA fic I'm never going to write:
Hoenheim's lifespan and continued existence is entirely tied to the hundreds of thousands to possibly millions of dead his soul eats off of, slowly leeching life from the dead kingdom of Xerxes.
...It stands to reason, then, when begetting life, that spiritual artefacts make themselves known in the begotten sons of the dead. There are only four that can claim true heritage of Xerxes— the immortal, the synthesized man, and the heirs to the memories of a long-gone people.
Or. Well. Gone in body, certainly. But that's hardly stopped anyone from wanting to step up and parent.

[image description: a set of gifs that shows six characters from various japanese dramas and movies. from the yakuza movie hell dogs there's miyavi as yoshitaka toake and then his fellow gang member murooka hideki. of course I had to add niragi from alice in borderland and also kagehisa anotsu from the movie blade of the immortal. my boy yuki yamada is next as solf j. kimblee from the fullmetal alchemist live action movies. finished the set with the man of the year, mackenyu, as enishi yukishiro from rurouni kenshin live action. end of description.]

..So I decided to add some really dumb blush (in the worst way ever possible) to some of the Resh'an talk sprites from Sea Of Stars.
This is how they turned out and they look so cursed and hilarious at the same time. Poor Resh'an is trying to get a grip on himself but can't stop from blushing haha..

u know, for all the eclipse related jokes i've seen so far, i cannot believe i have not seen any related to Fullmetal Alchemist re: The Promised Day?
An eclipse over the city/country was a literal massive plot point.

Any manga that DID stick the landing?
Oh there are plenty of good and great manga endings.
Jitsu wa watashi wa, Azumanga Daioh, Useless Ponko, and many, many others.
Hell its actually not that rare to find a manga that just has a decent, but solid manga ending.
It's just that two specific types of manga tends to have terrible endings, and because they overlap and are withouth a doubt the most popular manga types there are, they have lead to Manga as a whole having terrible endings.
Action manga, and long running plot based manga.
that latter one might seem a bit vague as it would cover so much, but it's very much true. if you look at long running manga and start to look at which one works, and which one that has a bad ending, it's almost always the ones with an actual plot, whatever that is.
it can by anything from "Saving the world through "whatever the manga is about" for bullshit "insert reasons here", to "Will these two hook up together?" to "There is a big mystery that the series revolves around".
You can bet that the longer the amounts of chapters, the higher the chances it fucks up the ending will be. That's basically a rule.
My theory on the subject is that length just makes everything more complex for the mangka, and so makes it harder and harder for them to wrap it up. Which is why manga with simple plots tend to have a much easier time wrapping them up, even if the manga is 200+ chapters long.
As for the other criteria, Action series that focuses more on fights and battles for obvious reasons have the caveat that this isnt actually their mangaka's speciality.
Tumblr media
Just take Naruto, where Kishimoto decided early on that part 2 would end with a rematch between naruto and sasuke, and had no clue how to get there, and by the time it actually reached that point, he had lost any and all hold over the plot.
Tumblr media
Inuyasha is similar. the manga actually hit a good spot to end on somewhere around the 150 chapter mark, give or take a dozen chapters, but ended up lasting 558 chapters, having basically spun its wheels with a cast that had reached their apex as far as natural character development was concerned so long back that most successfull manga gets canceled before reaching that equivelant points.
hence why it now has a very mixed reception and it's main lead kagome a very bad reputation nowadays, as beyond a point she became just as infuriatingly frustrating to read about as sasuke, just for different reasons.
But as for long running plot heavy, action manga, there are a few ones that did stick the landing.
Tumblr media
Fullmetal Alchemist is of course the go to definite example of a good, plot based battle manga that managed to wrap itself up perfectly.
It's not the best manga every written, but it did manage the rather unique feat of not only having a great ending, but also didnt actually have a bad arc in its entire run(something even the best manga usually have), instead being a rather solid manga all throughouth.
Tumblr media
Teppu also has a rather solid ending, even if it's much shorter.
The series is a brilliant deconstruction of both Shonen battle manga, and sports series in general, as it tells the first arc of such series from the point of view of it's villains... and unlike Disney Star wars manages to both portray the deconstructed "Hero" of the tale in an interesting and likeable light, while also being a rather nifty character study of both her and our main "villain" protagonist.
Tumblr media
also, you dont necesarily have to be great to have an amazing ending.
Shigurui is an interesting manga that deconstructs samurai ideals about loyalty and honor set during the great era of isolationism and internal peace and stability. is a good, if not a spectacular manga, but it has both one of the most depressive, and yet most amazing endings where the mangaka just went all in on making it as tragic a tale that condemns it's protagonists for their obsession with honor, and showcases better than any other series i have ever read why "I was just following orders" is such a hollow excuse.
Tumblr media
on a more cheerfull samurai story about revenge, there is blade of the immortal.
The ending isnt AS perfect for the series it belongs to as shigurui's is, but it's still a rather solid series, and just like FMA above, it managed to have a good, solid run from start to finish.
Tumblr media
While My Hero Academia's ending was absolutely terrible, it's spin off manga Vigilantes had a pretty good conclusion even if the final battle leading up to it lasted way too damn long.
Tumblr media
The original Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm had a really good climax too, which it's alternate universe sequel series last order tried to replicate to pathetic results.
i dont know how mars chronicles will end, but it would be really sad if it did not end on a better note than last order.
Im sure i can find other series that fits this criteria, but i cant recall any immediatly from the top of my head.
Also if the questionaire is asking about good or decent non long running stories, i can do that too in another ask. i have read A LOT of weirder manga with nice endings.
