The piteous wailing of the boys came from somewhere beyond the cattails, muffled only slightly by the softly chanted hymns of the swamp-dwelling beasts that held them.

Beasts of his own blood and yet so unlike him.

None of the easy gracefulness that their kind was known for nor even the terrifying elegance of a predator that they could capture when following the trail of blood through brackish waters, these creatures clustered together like leeches, writhing their tails in the water to dredge up the thick grayish mud which covered every inch of their porcelain skin and iridescent tails, until everywhere they showed only shades of browns and grays. Even the whites of their eyes had blackened in the fetid waters and bulged now from their skulls like great, bulbous black olives so when they lifted their heads through the mass of duckweed to peer at him, they seemed not his kin but some horrible amphibious beasts. 

One of the boys was cast screaming into the dark water, his own fishing net wrapped around him, binding his feet and hands so he could not swim, and the clawed hand which held Armand by the hair forced his head under so he had to watch. The horde of them fell on the boy as if of one mind, devouring him, not sparing even his bones, and the murky water grew crimson where he fell. 

Armand could hear his own muted scream through the water before he was yanked back by the hair to the surface. Coughing up the blood and stagnant water, eyes fluttering shut against the sting of it, he cried, “Why do this to us?” 

“To punish you. To punish you for all your blasphemous deeds. What is hell to this, young one?” Spoke the soft voice close to his ear. Dark hair fell forward very near his cheek and he saw it was matted with mud and Spanish moss and, yes, even a tadpole, trapped and wriggling in a tangle. “There may be no Hell for you, child, but there will be suffering eternal. Your nights of luxury and lasciviousness are over. The truth awaits you now.”

re:hbomberguy, on the topic of citing sources, i want to say:

it is insane how many people on here don't even click the sources op links on their own post to learn more and just hit reblog saying "oh my i didn't know about this thank you for teaching me!". like guys CLICK THE LINK!! CHECK THE NOTES!!! CHECK THE SOURCE!.... i swear half the time the link is dead or takes you to a nonsense page (i see this a lot with art specifically???? and excerpts from magazines??) and some times the linked source disproves a claim the very post that linked it made and people just. don't bother to check, no one bothers to even reblog saying "hey that link is dead! here's a new, working link!" or "hey that link doesn't work, can you link the source again?" and when it comes to misinformation people just share without checking or looking at the notes where numerous people will (in the best case scenario) already be pointing out the misinformation

"OH BUT I CAN'T CHECK EVERYTHING I SEE ON THE INTERNET" there is a surefire way to prevent spreading this kind of stuff even if you don't have the time to fact check immediately. just accept it's fine to save a post for later if you can't look deeper into it right now!!!!! literally just reblog it in private or save the post as a draft so you can come back to it later and check. it won't kill you and in fact it will actually make your life a lot better lol
