The Three who are One, The One who is Three ; Hecate

They call it the Witching Hour! The dead of the night when the creatures of the night come alive. The mother of the nocturnal life haunts the lands and lurk through crossroads at night.

She is not one. She is three. Some call them witches! Their sight can be horrifying and in the old it is said that they bring bad luck.

The main inspiration for the manipulation was taken from the second episode of the Netflix show “The Sandman”. In the show “Hecate” are the triple goddess that governs many aspects of life. known as the maiden, the crone and the mother.

Together they are also known as The Fates (Moirai) and The Furies. In Greek Mythology, Hecate are the triple goddess of witchcraft, dreams, ghosts, nocturnal creatures, hell-hounds and death. They can be both good and evil.

Another key point illustrated here is the use of unfair policies that ruling powers impose on ethnicities and inchoate nations they control. (This is the might makes right political fallacy.) These extraneous conditions, often intended to crassly project colonial power, become psychosocially onerous and contribute to the erosion of the cultural fabric that sustains the moral traditions and norms of conduct of the colonial society.

The main point of the presentation, however, is to showcase the egregious irresponsibility of the colony's political and social leaders when they abdicate their patrimonial duty to demolish the mentality of submission and lead the people to freedom, not just from the colonizers but more importantly from the rank, metastasized corruption the colonial leaders and inhabitants have learned, adopted and further developed on their own. People are always responsible for the consequences of their deeds and attitudes.

What is the Nic Cage Religious Society? Why should you join? (all the questions, answered and answered)

First off, what is this blog about?? This blog is pretty much about anything related to the worship/admiration of Nic Cage! Here I mostly plan on posting random nonsensical photoshops of him - please don't take anything that's posted here seriously - it isn't meant to be!

What's religious about it? Almost nothing! I like referring to Nic Cage as my "lord and savior", and this blog is just an extension of that! I'm not religious and don't take any problem with people that are - this isn't meant to mock religion or people who are religious/practice it. I just like Nic Cage, it isn't that deep.

How can I join the society/are there any practices or rituals? You don't need anything to join/become a follower - just a love for Nic Cage (ironic or unironic!) It doesn't matter if you're already religious - no religion, bad religion, we'll sell you a new one for free! As for practice, nothing is required! I gently encourage people to make funny photoshops and eat shortbread if they desire.

Who runs this blog/who made the society? (and why??) I'm the sole runner of this blog and creator of the society - just a student with way too much free time! You can call me Cagious Nicothy if you want, I have no idea lol. I made this group/blog because I could! I enjoy Nic Cage both ironically and unironically - I find the man thoroughly hilarious.

DNI if: - You dislike vague religious/political imagery (even if it is used as part of a joke) - You dislike Nic Cage - You are homophobic/transphobic (this is an LGBTQIA+ safe space!)

Developing the Experience

To begin creating the portal, I experimented with setting up a camera animation through some planets/spheres in Maya and choosing Arnold VR in the render settings (see fig. 1).

I rendered out a couple of seconds as a test and output it into dome format, but there was something amiss with the way it was rendered (see fig. 2). It may be due to traveling vertically rather than horizontally and the eye-spacing setting. This needs some troubleshooting, so I moved onto the bulk of the portal animation which was the portal effect itself and I’ll attempt to correct the 3D aspect later.

I had decided to use After Effects to create the portal after some research into tutorials and was fairly confident I could do it. I followed a tutorial (see fig. 3), but it was slow and arduous as I'm fairly new to After Effects and they used unspecified hotkeys I did not know, I also had to reverse engineer a plugin that I did not own with blending modes. I had trouble with After Effects interpreting the camera settings in the tutorial shown. I realised belatedly that it was still set up for dome output. I reset my composition settings and had to restart the tutorial. Despite this steep learning curve, the initial result was really convincing and I was able to apply the technique to new layers, building a richer image, such as the stars in fig. 5&6. Because I chose not to warp the stars it created a 3D parallax effect. I attempted using alternative source images for the portal effect, but none worked as well as the detailed nebula in fig. 7.

I wanted to further enrich the portal and lengthen the time, so I precomposed my work yet again (this would be the fourth time to achieve the effect) and offset two duplicate layers all on a screen blending mode and faded them into one another using opacity and keyframing. I also needed to conceal the “black hole” that was created from the edge of the source image. I took the source images into Photoshop and painted in a black, feathery edge to help soften the fade, I also offset the image and removed the seam for clean wrapping (see fig. 7&8).

I precomposed again, scaled it down and created a circle mask about the same size as the hole. I then increased the feathering as much as I could. There was still a visible black dot, so I repeated the above technique only pulling from another part of the portal. I added a gaussian blur to this to reduce the amount of animation (see Fig. 9). The final result is quite effective (see Fig. 10). To tie into the original portal concept and to prepare to transition into the final scene, I added a hue/saturation effect to turn the portal red. I rendered the portal using Adobe Media Encoder.

Preliminary Tasks: Individual Social Media Account

One task that Sir told us to do is create a social media page as an influencer, with anything we wanted and create a sense of branding. This way we would be able to understand how to handle a social media page and understand the sense of branding. We had to make 10 posts. 

I decided to make an Instagram account, where I would post movie or T.V. Show reviews, as I love to analyse, discuss and give my opinions about movies I have watched. 

I named my social media account- ‘Kino Kritic’. The word ‘Kino’ means grand or cinematic, especially in regards to cinema or other cultural mediums. The word ‘Kritic’ is actually ‘critic’ just spelled with a ‘K’ instead to make the name look witty and catchy. I used the word ‘kritic’ as I will be writing my opinions, likes, ways to improve the film and thoughts about the film like a professional critic would.

After naming my account, I decided to create my social media page logo, as I need to create a sense of branding. Online on a website, I designed my own logo.

I also designed my own brand merchandise. So all my followers, who read my reviews can buy my brand merchandise. They can buy- tote bags, keychains, phone case covers and notebooks with my logo on them.

This way I have learned how to create a sense of branding. 

After that I decided to list out ten movies or shows that I would like to review. After much thinking, I started to write the reviews of the ten movies or shows.

For my reviews, individually, I first wrote the movie name, second I wrote the genre, third I wrote the Director’s name, fourth I wrote the cast, fifth I wrote my review (my thoughts, improvements and opinions) and last I rated the movie or show out of a 0-5 rating scale (’0′ being the lowest and ‘5′ being the highest).

After writing my reviews I took stills and one short clip from the movie. Then posted it on my social media page. Each movie review has one post, with stills from the film and a short clip. This way my followers or anyone viewing my social media page can read my review and also watch a short scene from the film, which will help them know if they are interested in watching the film or not. The short clip from the film will also help them visualise and see the characters. This also helps create a sense of branding. ‘Kino Kritic’ will now have specific style in writing reviews, as explained above. The way I write my reviews will now be identified as my style. Even the way I post stills from movies and a short scene. Any person, while scrolling through social media, will immediately recognize my style of writing and the way I post my reviews. This helps with brand recognition.  

I have also learned how to manage a social media account. I have learned how to post, upload pictures and videos and manage my page efficiently.

Aridane sat upon the sculpted edge of the planter around one of the trees that lined the avenue staring up at the sky.  Most of her fellow citizens who wandered the streets just smiled as they saw the young Amaurotine looking up.  Most assumed her eyes were upon the purple blossoms scattered within the leaves their color barely discernible in the street lamps. To them most likely dreaming up concepts that she might one day accomplish.

They were quite mistaken her eyes were not on the tree or its blossoms, but on the wonder that only she and a few others could properly see.  The great River of Aether that swirled and flowed from all things below to the sky above where it drifted to what all knew to be the Underworld where life began its journey anew.

Of her classmates in the Akademia Anyder she knew of only two others who saw this as vividly and clearly as she did Hades and Hythlodaeus.  The former was a self centered annoyance that she tolerated the presences of for the sake of the latter since he was a close friend.  Hades bragged endlessly about his acuity of vision acting as if he alone understood what they were seeing.  She knew from time to time he could be tolerable but most of the time his attitude left much to be desired.

“There you are,” a voice called and she tore her eyes away from the river of aether to her dear friend.  Hythlodaeus strode up grinning wide as he reached her overtly excited about something.

She returned the grin she couldn’t help it his enthusiasm was infectious.  She had seen it could even get Hades to smile from time to time which irked the boy to no end and she found endless amusement from. “What’s got you so excited Hyth?” she asked

He was all but dancing in place his eyes beneath his mask glowing with excitement, “I have finally had a concept approved by the Bureau.  I can implement it as soon as possible!”

“Thats wonderful Hyth!” she jumped up catching his hands with joy. Aridane was so proud that her friend finally had achieved something he had been desiring for so long.

“It is indeed, but I wonder, when will you finally get one approved Aridane?” a voice nearby drawled

She turned giving him a taut smile anger smoldering deep in her eyes, “When I am good and ready Hades.” she replied evenly

The twitch of amusement in his lips told her he had seen he had struck a nerve.  She was seething inside but she kept it well in check.  She would not give him the satisfaction of seeing her angry, “I have been working out another one I just would like to put the finishing touches on it before I present it to the Bureau.”

Disappointment flickered in Hades eyes as he saw her ignore the obvious bait he had thrown at her.  She felt a tiny bit of joy at seeing that honestly the boy could be insufferable.

“Can we see it Aridane?” Hythlodaeus asked interest apparent in his eyes, “Honestly I don’t know why they haven’t approved one before you always have such interesting ideas.”

“To you maybe,” Hades yawned, “Honestly I think I am going to head to the dorm and get some sleep.”  With that he gave them a lazy wave and sauntered off heading for the student dorms.

“Honestly Hyth, one of these days I am going to show that smug bastard that he is not the center of everything.” she growled

“He likes you Ari, that’s why he teases you so.  Honestly you two would make a good pair” Hyth stated mischief dancing in his eyes.

She stared in shock at the other boy and sputtered, “That’s......what do you.....never gonna happen!”

Hyth laughed and held up both hands in a placating gesture, “I’m joking, I’m joking.   He does like you but not like that.”

She just glared at him annoyed that he’d even suggest something so absurd.  She almost wanted to deny his request about seeing her concept but seeing the pleading eyes she relented.

“Come on, Its plans are in the classroom in the Words of Halmarult.”  she said leading him back toward the Akademia Aynder.  As they stode through the halls they were greeted by several classmates.  Once they arrived she went over to her desk and pulled out the crystal that housed the purposed concept.

She flowed her Aether into it and before her appeared a beautiful flower.  It was small with a flat leaf base the blossom itself was two toned the outer petals a pale white while the center was a gorgeous golden hue matching the delicate stems of pollen at its heart.

“I must say I hardly expected something so fragile from you.  But I have to admit it is beautiful.” Hades voice sounded from the door of the classroom, “The Bureau would be foolish to deny that one.  Its the best I have ever seen you make.

She whirled wanting to respond with a scathing remark but it died on her lips as he seemed to be actually meaning what he said.  Color crept into her cheeks and she looked back at the flower mumbling, “Thank you Hades.”

“Couldn’t resist eh?  I knew you secretly had a soft spot for her,” Hythlodaeus snickered.

Hades glared at him his golden eyes showing his full annoyance, “Hardly but seeing as how she is always tagging along with the two of us I had to make sure it wouldn’t be something embarrassing.  Unlike you I actually care what people think of me and the company I keep.”

Her discomfort turned to anger in a flash and she snapped, “Tagging along, ha as if I’d bother to follow the likes of you Hades.  I deal with you because Hyth considers you a friend nothing more!”

He just gave a feral smile, “On that we are of one mind.” he responded, “But such annoyance aside I did mean what I said it is beautiful.  Keep making things like that and I may not be as bothered by you being around.”

She gritted her teeth, furious with herself that she had let him get under her skin like that.  “You can be sure I will and better, I’ll show you that you aren’t as great as you think you are!”

“Please both of you,” Hythlodaeus pleaded, “Lets not argue or start snapping at each other,”

“Very well, I will Hyth,” she responded shoving her annoyance away for his sake.

“If you insist,” Hades sighed, “Besides it is about to be lights out so we best all be getting to our rooms.”

As if summoned by his words the chime to alert students to return to their dorms rang out through the halls of the Anyder.  Aridane withdrew her aether from the crystal and the flower dispersed its aether returning to the great river since it no longer needed to retain its form.  She then put the crystal back into the desk and strode out.  

As she passed him Hades realized that the flower’s dispersing aether was the same color as it’s creator’s.  That in his mind made it even more beautiful for it meant she poured some of herself into its creation.

“Aridane,” he called as he followed Hythlodaeus out. She paused then turned to face him her green eyes guarded beneath her mask, “That flower really is beautiful, I hope the Bureau approves it.”

She stared at him a moment confused before saying, “Thank you Hades.”

Hythlodaeus just beamed at the both of them and they rolled their eyes at him before going their separate ways to their dorm rooms.

As she made her way there Aridane looked up at the great river and smiled as she saw the flowers aether flow into the river its white and golden hues adding a splash of brilliance amidst the other myriad of colors that surrounded it.  Hers were not the only eyes that saw that as well as Hades and Hythlodaeus stared into the sky at the beautiful infinite river.

Suisei wandered about the crystal filled room while Y’shtola attempted to reactivate the ancient device.  For some reason she felt drawn away from the rest of the group by a familiar feeling aether.  

Naught here should feel familiar she thought to herself as she made her way through the banks of crystals each brimming with varying aethers within.  She followed the feeling until she stopped before a crystal glowing with a white and golden hue.

What? she asked herself as she reached for it without thinking.  Suddenly it glowed and she jumped back drawing her staff preparing for the worst.  Instead of a beast however there was naught but a single flower.  A Lotus with pale white petals surrounding a golden center.  Cautiously she approached it and picked it up.  There was something naggingly familiar about the plant but for the life of her she couldn’t place why.

“What have you got there?” Ryne’s voice asked from behind her

Suisei turned toward the girl and said, “I....I do not know some sort of Lotus it...it was in one of these crystals.”

“Ryne, Suisei there you are,” Alphinaud stated as he came up to the two of them, “Shtola wanted a to speak to us all but you two had disappeared.

“Sorry Alphinaud, I had sensed something and thought to investigate it, it would seem it was naught more than this flower.”  Suisei responded holding out the Lotus.

“Well it certainly is different, as what you were sensing from it however, I cannot fathom for it seems an ordinary if not unusual Lotus bloom.” 

Suisei’s brow furrowed, “Aye, it does.....I....had felt a familar aether and thought to look for it.”

Alphinaud frowned, “Bring it to the others let us see if there is aught more to it than meets our eyes.  And, again Y’shtola wished a word with all of us.”

She nodded in response and they both followed him back to where the others were near the ancient recorder.  Y’stola’s announcement was simple she desired to remain here to see what more she could glean concerning Elidibus and Venat from the device and she urged the others to return to the Crystarium to keep an eye on ‘Ardbert’s’ actions.

As the others began to make their way back through the Anyder to Bismark Suisei turned to Y’shtola asking, “Shtola could you take a look at this please and tell me if there is something strange about it?”

“What exactly....” the miqo’te began but then her eyes widened, “Why are you concentrating a bit of your own aether in you hand?”

“My....” Suisei started, “I am holding a flower.....one that came from one of these crystals stored here....I....my aether are your sure?”

The miqo’te nodded, “Aye....” she then paused a moment before continuing, “We know that we are fragments of the original souls that inhabited this star and that these crystals house the concepts to be drawn upon in the act of creation.  So it stands to reason that one could find perhaps a concept made by ones past self....”

Suisei nodded, “And I have ever been sensitive to aether so perhaps I sensed it due to that.”

“Would you perchance be willing to leave that here?” Shtola asked, “Perhaps it could give me a better understanding of how this storage method worked and unlike the other concepts that were called forth this one is intact.”

Suisei handed the blossom over to Shtola without hesitation, “Its yours, please be careful Shtola...who knows what else might be stored here.”

The miqo’te nodded, “Fear not dear friend I have no intention of finding out.  Now go the others are waiting.”

The Au’ra nodded and turned to catch up with the others questions swirling in her mind.  Was it just her aetheric sensitivity that drew her to that crystal or was it some forgotten memory?  And why did she have a sense of sorrow and pride when she looked upon the Lotus?

This week I recommend ... Run with the wind!

Hailing from the same studio that gave us Haikyu!!, Run with the wind is another one of Production I.G's gems. The gratification that comes from watching a diverse set of individuals work towards a common dream is unparalleled, and so it does not come as a surprise that this is a recurring theme in many a beloved anime. Dare I say that this form of media executes it better than any other I've seen?

One of the few animes set in university, Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru tells the story of students staying at the same dormitory who find themselves lumped into a team aiming for the glorious Hakone Ekiden, courtesy of the sheer will of one Haiji Kiyose. Without giving too much away, Run with the wind has the capacity to inspire and comfort all at once. The characters each have their distinct personalities, and their own struggles to overcome. There may be some you admire and others still that you can relate to, but one thing's for sure, you're bound to fall in love with this cohort and their determination. Not to mention, the show has some stunning visuals. While some might say the anime shows unrealistic progress compared to real life, I think their journey was fairly realistic within the context of anime. On a more personal note, this is the kind of show that not only makes you want to dream big, but also work to achieve everything you've ever wanted. Patience, endurance, and friendship are some of the themes that might stay with you long after the ending credits roll.

Does Anyone Else Feel Like This?

I have read a number of blogs and accounts of a number of women who have met the handsome duo Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. I’ve also found watching SPN Con videos enjoyable, but probably my worst addiction has been to the vocal talent of Jensen Ackles and rewatching episodes of Supernatural. Since July 20, 2020 I have been on a “crazy train” fueled by the desire to listen to everything, watch everything, read everything on the, no other word to describe him, Jensen Ackles! Now, please don’t misunderstand, yes I am obsessed with him, but not to the point where I am going to go “Nurse Betty” insane and stalk him, or think he’s my future husband, or that someday I’ll meet him and will be BFFs. 

People! The title of my page comes from Cassie in SPN 1.13 Route 666, “I am a realist.” I realize he is very happily married with three adorable children. I am also married, most days not so happily, which is why I’m in the SPN fandom and off in my own little Deasenland. That I will save for another post. This is mostly my way of releasing some emotions at the moment. I only have a few followers anyway, and there are only couple of people who know personal things about the real me.

I’m really glad that Tumblr exists as an outlet for me to express my feelings over Supernatural and Jensen. As I said before, I’ve read a number of blogs and accounts, plus chatted with someone fortunate to meet this incredible human being. Being the “realist” I am, though, the chances of me meeting Jensen Ackles is quite slim. Not to mention, I probably wouldn’t want a picture with him because I REALLY hate having my picture taken! Seeing him beside me in a photo would only make me hate it. Quite honestly, I would probably crop myself out of it! I apologize for going off on these tangents of mine. Again, I’m pretty sure their aren’t many people out there reading this. After all, isn’t Tumblr for Fanfiction, Slashfiction, gifs, and photos. I am an amateur creator of Fanart, but a big lover of Jensen, Dean, and Radio Company. I’m just little ol’ me with my run-on-sentences and tendency to ramble on and on. But, again, I like the fact that I can do this. 

It was because of one of those fortunate fans that I am blogging right now. I read a blog of someone who met Jensen at a Con in 2011 and cried tears of admiration for what an incredibly sweet, humble, and genuine man his is. The tears flowed as read about how stunning his vocal talent is in real life. It’s stories like hers that deepen my admiration for Jensen. It’s sharing their experiences that will make me a lifetime fan from this moment. I live vicariously through all the videos shared. I’m not really sure I would want to meet him, though. All of the things I have read and heard about paint a picture of incredibility. I mean, what if I did have the finances and was given the opportunity to meet him? What then? It would be a one time thing for me, I’m sure. What if the image I built up in my crazy fantasy was what I came face-to-face with in real life? Good gravy! I could “what if” myself to death over this! Anyway, perhaps, there are others who understand what it is like to want to meet their favorite actor/singer, but don’t have the means nor courage to do it.

I was a little concerned with the running time of our group’s production, so I pitched an idea of some 2D animations to buffer out the total time. The idea would expand the concept and add some more shape to the narrative. There would be three different scenes from different times after judgment day, we would be seeing the world years and years in the future and then moving back in time to the judgment day. The statues will also show the progress of time by slowly rising out of the ground after falling, and being overgrown. The degrading statue would be a repeating focal point, his true identity would slowly be revealed as the creature that destroyed the world, which would add a fun twist.  While not very clear in this story board, frame 6 would visually allude to this more by having some cracking and flaking of stone revealing patches of its grotesque skin.

To create a 180 degree environment quickly, I decided to look at mirroring the image and creating a spherical image (see fig. 3). For the animation, I created a cylinder in Maya and learnt how to do camera-based projection. I also learned how to render out a playblast to test it. The render would be just a surface shader, meaning that I could use the animation of the image without the lighting information from the scene affecting the geometry.

In the end, Liang suggested she and Sai could render out their scenes at 0.5 speed, and I could make my portal animation longer without the above landscapes, Ana expressed concerns about whether it would be cohesive with the aesthetic of the piece. There was discussion around including this at the end if there was time, but it was ultimately decided against.

One of the more popular shows from Spring 2021, 86 has already been renewed for a second season and rightfully so. The show has a lot going for it. The anime adaptation of a light novel by Asato Asato explores critical themes of racism, ethnic cleansing, and authoritarianism in a realistic manner. With just 11 episodes in the first season, this anime tells a compelling story without rushing the pace. Many of the characters are well-written and their relationships are developed throughout the course of the story in such a way that by the end, you can't help but feel attached. Unlike other animes that quickly write off the grief of loss after the initial purpose is served, 86 handles the concepts of grieving and coping with maturity. The resilience in how the members of the Eighty-Six accepted their reality and continued to move forward was comforting, to say the least. They were acutely aware of the fate that potentially awaited them at every turn and yet they could smile without harboring false hopes. There are parts of life we all invariably struggle to accept, so both the characters and their interactions in the story were relatable and subtly inspiring. In terms of impact, Episode 9 was impressively executed with a dramatic build-up to the "We're going on ahead, Major" scene. The scenes capturing the 86's journey from Fido's perspective were also incredibly heartwarming, and the ending theme matched the art beautifully.

Personally, I enjoyed the scenes featuring the 86 and their lives more than the ones from Lena's point of view. That may very well be because her character continued to develop for most of this season, and so I have high hopes for her as the story progresses. Still, I could appreciate her determination to build a genuine friendship with the unit and her budding strength as she confronts harsh truths. For me, the part tying Annette to Shin seemed a bit forced and I felt that her inner conflict could have been portrayed better.

All in all, I enjoyed 86 and I look forward to what the second season has in store. What did you think?
