is this a homestuck reference?
Unfortunately, not intentionally. I've committed the heinous crime of never reading Homestuck in my life so it could just be a funny coincidence - if you want it to be though, than it is a Homestuck reference.

(sorry if im repeating anything youve already said, i am just honestly utterly fascinated with your homestuck race-mapping and it really gets the gears turning)
on the subject of gamzee only faking being black as sort of a representation of juggalo culture being what it is does make his subjugation of equius much more interesting, if equius = horse = black person like you suggest. it kinda colors (ha!) their relationship differently though when you think about equius detesting gamzee for not living up to his ideal of what a highblood white man should be. equius' love of the hemospectrum directly at odds with gamzee's clown stuff/affected blackness so i think that makes equius self loathing or something
and on a more personal note it does give me slight vindication of being turned off by humanstuck!gamzee being portrayed as black. ...you know, besides the other uncomfortable territory of depicting a negative-black-stereotype-coded troll as actually being a black person, thus sort of justifying the stereotypes thrust onto him? anyway gamzee's dialogue, and so by extension kurloz's and meenah's/the condesce's, always read much more to be like a white person's crass approximately of aave (well... it IS on a meta level i guess) than actual genuine aave in an attempt to be "hip" or "tough" or whatever else it is white people think of when they emulate us so to me it always made more sense for humanstuck!gamzee to actually be white, and just sort of pretending to be the thing he wants to be most (black). theres also probably a parallel to be drawn between the overexaggerated noses and lips of traditional clown makeup (white) and blackface (...black)??
and then what to make of karkats race envy in that context i have no idea. something something idealized forms of blackness. but also karkat and gamzee are both descended from/ancestor to/literally religious figures so maybe the real message behind homestuck is that jesus really is white
Sorry for the delay; I got your ask months back, right around the time I pivoted onto the white-genocide apprehension of the limebloods, so the black-face angle on Gamzee was becoming something I couldn't make sense of. But now I can respond with a partial reproach, that Gamzee (like Damara) is simultaneously a representation of black face (the consumption of a lime-as-genocided-blackness facilitating the skull-possession we see on his face, like he paints his words in black blood) and member of a black ruling class (lime-as-genocided-whiteness, the feminine associations of which have him wearing what we can in this context understand as the Mothergrub's skull). The skull pivots from masculine to feminine depending on whether it's being associated with blackness or whiteness, I think.
Equius is likewise a mix of representations, simultaneously embodying pornographic tropes of overwhelming black strength (and simultaneously infantilized in his craving for white-mother's milk, the containers of which he crushes) while being visually derived from Nic Cage and fetishing his own society's underclass. His interaction with Gamzee seems similarly bifurcated: both the angle of Gamzee being insufficiently white (tainted by blackness) and insufficiently masculine (paradigmatically black, so that Gamzee is tainted by feminine-whiteness) are applicable. These are also competing interpretations of the slime pie -- drugs make you get possessed by skulls, Openbound is clear on that, but the meaning is split. The sopor is one sense a replacement for white-mother's milk, soothing black-boy aggression (skull as mothergrub, the slime feminizes), but we also have the Void association with intoxicants, as something that causes speech to become "slurred" (ie racialized, blackened, the competing aspect of the skull). Both of which are racist lmao!

Mandy, 2018 – Panos Cosmatos
This review is written by Jack Taylor
9/10
Mandy, a creative daydreamer who spends her days drawing and reading fantasy novels and her lover Red live a peaceful existence out in the wilderness, apathetic towards the rest of the world. At the hands of a cult leader and his religious fanatics the life the couple lead is soon tipped into turmoil. Calling for the embarkment of nightmarish journey fuelled by vengeance and bloodlust.
“When I die, bury me deep. Lay two speakers at my feet. Wrap some headphones around my head, and rock and roll me when I’m dead.”
I was lucky enough to see this on the big screen, re-released at the Prince Charles Cinema, and I’m so glad for it. At the cinema I was sat there totally at the mercy of this film’s awe-inspiring and beautifully intense visual style and score. I felt naked and vulnerable as Johann Johannson’s wall of sound pushed through me in waves giving me an adrenaline rush I’ve similarly felt watching films such as Mad Max: Fury Road or the Evil Dead remake. The score is my favourite bit about this film, I’ve been listening to ‘Mandy’s love theme’ on repeat since I heard it, this piece of music is a love letter to the principle character and the film’s namesake. With this piece of music, the film convinces you to fall in love with Mandy, it tells us how special she is and in turn solidifies our connection to Nicolas Cage’s character and to feel as he does as we take the path of vengeance through him. Watching some of the brutal death scenes of the perpetrators that Red (Nic Cage) hunts down, with aid of the intense adrenaline inducing score gives you an immense sense of satisfaction. This is a revenge horror, and it beautifully illustrates how multifaceted and fluid the horror genre can be because not once did I feel scared watching this film, I was sad, exhilarated and angry but never scared, but this is horror film if ever I saw one and it was marvellous.
The casting was brilliant, both Nicolas cage and Andrea Riseborough were the perfect choices to play these roles. Nic Cage is his usual over-acting self, but this film welcomes it and channels it, in such a crazy over the top film, nothing less would suffice. Riseborough’s look with the help of special effects make up is what made the character of Mandy, with her heterochromia, scar under her eye and long black hair she was ethereal and beautiful, yet phantasmic and uncanny. Her performance is good too, she plays Mandy with a sort of naïve innocence, her speech almost childlike or perhaps alien like. Mandy’s character is disillusioned and bemused with the world /society, instead concerned with nature and space, always reading sci-fi fantasy novels and creating fantasy illustrations. I love the aesthetic influence here: the film being set in the early 80’s; the use of heavy metal; and the 70’s fantasy/sci-fi illustrations, all creates a strong visual style which influences the aesthetic tone throughout the whole film. Panos Cosmatos even creates a fake fantasy book of which Mandy reads a passage describing in vivid detail a scene…
“Under the crimson, primordial sky, surrounded by the jagged black rocks of the ancient volcanic mountain, the wretched Warlock reached into the dark embrace of the fissure until his hand touched a smooth glassy surface. Cold as ice. His fist closes around the Serpent’s Eye. Slowly he withdrew it and held it before him in the fading light of the blood red suns. It glowed from within. A ghostly emerald light. Strange and eternal”
This beautifully descriptive piece of writing illustrates for us the visual influences for this film without us actually needing to see it, the 70’s fantasy imagery that this piece of writing conjures up in our mind isn’t exactly what we see in the film but it is a clear influence. Mandy’s character holds all this information, with her books and drawings and talk of the universe, Panos Cosmatos uses her as his muse, and as a vessel to carry the visual influences of this film so that we can understand the wondrous visuals with more context, and the visuals are something to behold. There is so much to talk about when it comes to the visuals, whether it be the beautifully creepy animated dream sequences and animated title cards which mark each act of the film. Or the vivid colours and lighting which transform the scene to either dream or nightmare but never real life. Or the abstract cinematography, strong visuals are Panos Cosmatos’ biggest strength in his films are Mandy is no different.
After a movie of intense visuals, intense sound and intense action, the film finishes and cuts to the credits in complete silence letting the viewer sit with what they have just experienced. A love story. A tragedy. A horror movie.

OMG so basically I finally watched Ghost Rider like a month ago. I’ve been a casual Nic Cage enjoyer before bc I went through a weird phase with Sorcerer’s Apprentice and thinking he was hot when I was like… thirteen maybe? Idk anyway watching Ghost Rider sent me on a trajectory to Nic Cage hell bc I love skeletons and motorcycles and I went down the pipeline to the Tubi movies and I’m in deep. Now I need an intervention. Does this count as a confessional? 😭😂😂
This absolutely counts as a confessional - having a crush on Nic Cage at 13 is understandable, I feel like everyone has reached that point in their life (I might be sweating on the other end of the screen cuz I for sure had that) There is also nothing wrong with skeletons on motorcycles, they're just a vibe and you should be proud as far as I'm concerned.

Introductory post/pinned post!
What is the Nic Cage Religious Society? Why should you join? (all the questions, answered and answered)
Tumblr media
First off, what is this blog about?? This blog is pretty much about anything related to the worship/admiration of Nic Cage! Here I mostly plan on posting random nonsensical photoshops of him - please don't take anything that's posted here seriously - it isn't meant to be!
What's religious about it? Almost nothing! I like referring to Nic Cage as my "lord and savior", and this blog is just an extension of that! I'm not religious and don't take any problem with people that are - this isn't meant to mock religion or people who are religious/practice it. I just like Nic Cage, it isn't that deep.
How can I join the society/are there any practices or rituals? You don't need anything to join/become a follower - just a love for Nic Cage (ironic or unironic!) It doesn't matter if you're already religious - no religion, bad religion, we'll sell you a new one for free! As for practice, nothing is required! I gently encourage people to make funny photoshops and eat shortbread if they desire.
Who runs this blog/who made the society? (and why??) I'm the sole runner of this blog and creator of the society - just a student with way too much free time! You can call me Cagious Nicothy if you want, I have no idea lol. I made this group/blog because I could! I enjoy Nic Cage both ironically and unironically - I find the man thoroughly hilarious.
DNI if: - You dislike vague religious/political imagery (even if it is used as part of a joke) - You dislike Nic Cage - You are homophobic/transphobic (this is an LGBTQIA+ safe space!)
Other important info: - I call Nicolas Cage "Nic" because I can, it's just a funny short nickname, I don't intend to somehow disrespect him by calling him this. - Again, this blog/whole idea is not meant to throw shade on any religion/beliefs (or Nic Cage)! None of this is meant to be taken seriously, it's just a weird hobby for me at this point. - Please use the ask box to ask any questions related to Nic Cage, share images/stories, or just talk about random stuff! - I am not an expert on Nic Cage! I like him and have watched interviews and movies, but I am far from knowing everything about him - please feel free to correct me if I ever state a fact about him that is incorrect! - This is not a Christian blog! I know Nic Cage is Christian/was raised that way, but this isn't a blog about his personal beliefs - it's just a funny stupid blog about Nic Cage in general.
That's pretty much it! All the images I'm going to post here are made by me - except for the blog banner, which I found on wallpapercave.com and was uploaded by firexhor! I hope that anyone who comes across this blog enjoys weird Nic Cage themed art as much as I do!
