ANYWAYS genuinely one of the people i look up to most, she always gives amazing feedback on writing and her own writing??? the prose??? she's a master at it. knows how to really elevate a piece and it's just really easy on the eyes. she's also a research writer, her jiaoqiu fic utilizes chinese proverbs and terminology and i think that's really neat <3

avery's on the more reserved side, at least from my point of view, or maybe that's because when i first met them they had a ferminet pfp. they're pretty chill and casual, and can i just say? their writing is very easy to read, it has great flow and i can just lose myself in the fic. like i don't see the words i see what the words are saying, if that makes sense. avery also focuses on platonic writing, although they have been writing some romance with furina!! my personal favorite work of theirs was that fic of arlecchino comforting her crying child because it made me feel so much better about my life at 9 am when i just woke up.

sorry, if im bothering you with this (you don't need to anwer if you don't want to), another one of these discourses about bayonetta i've seen with queerbaiting with bayojeanne and that one spoilers thing. do you agree it's an actual thing that happened?

Okay, so BIG SPOILERS AHEAD (metion of them, but not explicit) and lots of text ________

So let me start by saying, usually, as a gay person myself - I've been in this situation. When you clearly have a dynamic between friends of the same gender but it's written much more deeply and with the care and with the actual tropes that get used for het couples and filled with love (and that word gets thrown around, but like, we talking about any kind of love). That happens. But what also happens - is that writers / devs usually never confirm these. Fans and fandom do more job of putting lgbt rep into something that originally doesn't really have it or hidden in narrative (pushed, that also common with censoring) and then act like devs or writes or show runners own them something they invented. Again, it's a complex issue, because sometimes authors take time or have to push for relation ships (LoK / adventure time) and sometimes authors take credit for the ships fans popularised (that one supergirl show comes to mind???) However, in Bayojeanne cause, I can kind of see where people coming from because: a) Bayo herself is an ambiguous character, people been saying for ages that she's bi coded (i can't speak on that honestly) b) Kamiya called Bayonetta and Jeanne couple - not a pair, not duo, and compared them with other couples (that also semi-canon / canon)

c) a lot of promo material art, just as concept art depicted them in way that would couples would. especially couples that have "different side of the coin" dynamic and that complement each other some examples: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

Fanservice? Sure. Still. A thing that did happened. d) the scenes they had were also common for couples, shots on the reaching hands (the recent one i can think about with cloud and tifa in ff7remake), bayonetta holding jeanne "bride" style, bayonetta holding jeanne when saving her soul (do i need to mention how later they did that scene in familliar way with luka and bayo but just without the kiss, riiiight) and like, i could go on, but you get the idea

d) And what I also think Bayojeanne isn't just that kind of ship that was "oh fans hyped it up and they never interacted in canon" or something. It's in the story. Again, maybe it wasn't explicit and writers probably didn't intended to be that way (maybe Kamiya did but looking at bayo3 who knows), because once again it's a common thing when writes do this type of dynamic and "oh, the bond is so strong" and that kind of thing has a right to exists, if it wasn't for the othert stuff i said about. Again, it's a complex idea and situation. And many things matter in the case. And I'm not a professional and not that type of person who cared about it in Bayonetta of all things. Does that falls under "queerbaiting"? Hell, if I know, because I never expected them somehow to get canon or anything (and if you go through my baoyjeanne tag you know I love them dearly), cause not only being a game from japanese devs but also that I know better now because I got baited enough in various media before. Can I blame people for thinking this was queerbaiting? No, I don't think I can. Especially because it's just bad for the script. What this implies of such strong and impowering fantasy character as Bayonetta is even worse. And like, Bay///o/lu//ka doesn't in any way erase Bayonetta's bi-coding or her being into Jeanne (afterall it's not the same Bayo and we got multiverses now🙄) but I think people are upset because it was executed reeeeeally poorly and untasteful for such character. And people saying it's kind of character assasination are right in a lot of ways. Hell idk why anyone skips the part that Luka also didn't got any development and got thrown in this mess as well. And also THAT PART. What happened with it - who knows what was even going on in the writing room of Platinum.

AND I NEED TO LITTER YOU IN COMPLIMENTS AS IF YOU’RE BEING RAINED ON BY GLITTER CONFETTI!! 🎉🎉🎉so i was missing Wyrm so i decided to re-read the first 3 chapters and it was so delightful to take my time and really relish in every single word of the fic. the first time i read it, i was so engrossed that i read it rather quickly but it’s such a lovely experience to take my time and re-read something so beautifully

written but since i’ve been re-reading it, i ended up with a few questions that i didn’t bother to think about before (cause i was so engrossed the first time). is it okay for me to ask you these questions??? if you’re planning on revealing the answers somewhere down the line in the plot then by all means don’t answer my questions but these are really for curiosity’s sake!! in chapter 1, you mention how OC’s mother is a widow. can i know what happened to the dad and how old OC was when hepassed? currently, how old is everyone in Wyrm? like how old are Jongdae, Baekhyn, and the OC? what color and hairstyles are Jongdae and Baekhyn sporting in this fic? lol this might seem like a silly question but i want to know how you imagine them to look like in your head. is there a comeback era or promo pic i can use for reference for what they look like in Wyrm? (i’ve seen the moodboard btw but since it’s not created by you, i wanted to know if the jongdae in the moodboard is how youactually picture him or not) OKAY SO IT’S TIME FOR ME TO COMPLIMENT YOUR BEAUTIFUL SELF A SECOND TIME (cause i’ve sent an anon about Wyrm before and raved about how good it was)  CAUSE YOU DESERVE ALL THE APPRECIATION IN THE WORLD MY DARLING!! 💕💕💕 so, the part in ch 2 where you write about OC traveling through the forest and leaving her home is so beautifully and elegantly written! it captures the feeling of leaving home and not returning so well! honestly, the way you write about herconnection to the trees, flowers, and caves makes me swoooonnnn 😩😩😩and the shift in her perception of the woods as she passes through is so beautiful?? like you really capture the essence of a carefree and naive childhood spent in nature where everything is so bright and sweet and then the imagery changes to something much more somber & darker. the whole introspection of her life and how it’s rapidly changing and the way that parallels the changing scenery of the forest is done so beautifully!! ❤️ and then it seamlessly goes into building background for the story! the first time i was reading the story, i was so focused on the OC and Jongdae’s eventual introduction BUT I JUST GOTTA RAVE ABOUT HOW YOU WRITE BAEKHYUN!! the way you characterize him is done so well like?? the subtle things like the changes in his expression, demeanor, tone, and all the good stuff just gives him so much depth like?? You make him seem so human and complex and just so REAL?! ughhhh I’m so gladhe didn’t stick with his hard and cold exterior like how he was introduced in ch 1. Anyways, I’m just rly enjoying the way you bring him to life and how the reader (aka me) gets to see his mask slowly being chipped off and how he crumbles and is willing to risk everything to save his friend. he aint even the main but I’m so invested in him already. ❤️❤️honestly, your writing is just perfect to me ❤️❤️❤️your plot, characterization, diction, pacing, amount of dialogue vs action, descriptive imagery, like it’s all so good!!! and it’s not just the quality of the literary devices you use that’s superb, it’s all the other stuff too!!! like it’s all weaved together so seamlessly! my dear, it literally flows!! and everything is done in such an impeccable amount of moderation!! nothing seems to be amiss and nothing superfluous! i have NEVER been so S M I T T E N with a piece of literary work before! my hat’s off to you dear, i am in love! 😍😍

this will come up very, very briefly in a future chapter, but the most vague answer i can give is that he was part of the Darinthall Militia. once that chapter is released ill need you to remind me of this exact moment so i can give full backstory. its not integral to the plot, but its assists Dae and OC in forming a sort of understanding with one another. so. #soon also, OC was about 7 when he died. she has some memories of him but not terribly many for reasons that will be explained later~~

ahahhaha yes! there are actual era pics i was using for them. the moodboard was made by @baebae-goodnight who did such an incredible job, shes also made MBs for other characters that ill be releasing as they are introduced. like, please can we all take a moment to praise her talent? the jongdae she used in the MB is literally, EXACTLY as i had imagined dae in the story. spot on. shes a wizard. i gave her just a few details about him and she somehow got into my mind and pulled out the perfect dae. so, the MB dae = WT dae

Im starting to take this "not getting notes on my art" thing really personally and i know it sounds childish (and i laugh at myself for it) but i cant help but get upset when i spend so much time and effort and get like no feedback. And i know people say not to draw what u love and not for attention but honestly i dont even know what

and i dont even know if im drawing what ilike sometimes. Yeah i love bts but i dont know if i like what im drawing or ifim just doing it for notes???? And i have a lot of anxiety too and thats wherei feel like im taking this too personally. Cuz im starting to think that my artdoesnt get notes cuz its straight up not good which leads me to think ishouldnt even try to pursue a career in art anymore. But im not good atanything else so wtf am i gonna do if i dont succeed in art???? Like i said i laugh at myself for thinking like this and iprobably sound like a fuckin child but i cant help it???? Like i think my artis decent???? But maybe its not???? Aw dude don’t worry I get what you mean,I actually experienced something similar when I first started posting my art totumblr, and even recently when I first started posting bts fanart. It’sperfectly normal to want recognition (in this case in the form of notes) forsomething you worked so hard on!! I think one of the major issues with postingto such a big fandom such as bts though is that there’s so many peopleproducing content at any given time, that it’s incredibly easy to get drownedout. Especially since tumblr changed how search and track tagging worked, itmade it that much harder for people to get noticed for their content.

When I first switched to drawing for bts,I found it hard because I also focused a lot on my note count. For someone whowas originally well established in a previous fandom, the move to bts was quitea jarring experience. I had built my following on tf2 art, and used toconsistently get a couple hundred notes, but one of main reasons why I left wasbecause of the dwindling of note counts. When I first left, overwatch had justcome out and a lot of attention shifted towards that game away from tf2, andalthough I still love the game, the dramatic decrease in notes on my art fortf2 really made me sad and I ended up deciding to leave the fandom after 3years of drawing tf2 art. I hopped around a bit, before eventually getting intobts. Even then, my first few pieces (they’re not on my #bts fanart tag so mostpeople wouldn’t have ever seen them) either got no notes at all or only two orthree. It was easier for me to establish myself in a fandom such as tf2 back inthe day since it was such a small, tight knit community with limited contentcreators, but now with bts there are so many more people and it just seemedhopeless for a while and I lost motivation in my art. I stopped wanting todraw, since it felt like nobody cared. Art is the biggest hobby I have, solosing my confidence in my art was crushing.

Now you might be wondering how I got towhere I am today. I’ll be completely honest with you. For me, I highly doubt Iwould be anywhere near where I am if it weren’t for networks. I had neverjoined a network before, but decided to join armiesnet and jimin network one daywhen I saw that applications were open. I got accepted, and I joined theirrespective group chats too. I met lots of great people on those chats, and madea lot of new friends which was nice after having moved fandoms and lost touchwith many previous mutuals. I’m so glad I joined networks, because not only doyou have the chance to make mutuals who will support you and your art, thenetwork blog itself also reblogs all its members’ content which gives youexposure to members of the network through both the network tag and through thedashboard. It’s a perfect way to get started, rather than hoping that somebodywith a decent following will happen to stumble across your work in the tags oneday and reblog it.

That being said, unless you’re like somesort of godly human being I don’t think we can ever get over how note countsfeel as an artist. We need something to gauge people’s response to our art, andthat tends to default to note counts. I can assure you that the feeling of disappointmentwhen your post doesn’t get as many notes as you want/expected it to is a thingpretty much all artists on this site shares. People always say “you should drawfor yourself, not for other people” but that’s the equivalent of like say themona lisa being painted and then left to rot in Da Vinci’s closet or something.The whole point of art is sharing your ideas/love for something through yourdrawings with other people, and so it’s perfectly normal to want therecognition you deserve for working so hard and putting so much love into yourcraft. When it feels like you’re all alone, you have to remember not to giveup. Creating art in such a big fandom can be unforgiving, but just rememberthat your art is never the one at fault. It’s all about finding that littlegolden window of exposure, whether it be through one big blog or a couplesmaller blogs reblogging your work. Those kind few people will be what helpsyou grow, and you have to keep posting for that to happen. If you water a plantbut it doesn’t bloom the next day, abandoning it will get you nowhere. If youjust keep going, keep watering it, results will come. Keep reminding yourselfthat you’re doing well, and you can compare older art to your current art tosee the progress and keep you motivated. Don’t force yourself to draw if youaren’t feeling it – art is something that should make you happy. I used to drawbecause I felt the pressure to put out content, but that just resulted in mefalling into a negative spiral of art block, limited motivation and generalunhappiness with my art as a result. Remember that there’s no such thing as adeadline when it comes to posting art on tumblr – work at whatever pace suitsyou and if anybody tries to rush you, shut them down. You’re the artist, youget to choose what you do with your art, how you do it, and how long you spendon it.

If you truly have your sights set onbecoming an artist full time, then by all means go for it! I can’t give muchadvice in that area since I only plan on keeping art as a hobby, but justremember that art school is always optional. In the end, working as an artistis all about the portfolio, not where you graduated from. It’s more importantto work on your art than it is to get in to an amazing art school. Sure, artschools can be useful, but in the end they are simply tools, sort of like atutorial rather than something that will magically turn you into an amazing artistwith amazing job offers. At the end of the day, it’s all up to yourself to workhard and promote yourself. Since art is all about reaching different audienceswith your work, promoting yourself is essential, even if it’s just casualfanart on tumblr. Feedback can’t come without exposure, and exposure can’t comewithout self-promotion.

Lastly, remind yourself that there’s nosuch thing as ‘bad art’. That might sound like a stupid statement, but inreality art is a constantly changing thing. There is no pinnacle of perfection,no model artwork that represents the most perfect drawing out there. Everyonehas different styles, everyone has different approaches, and most importantly,everyone is still improving. I’m still learning and trying to improve my ownart, and there’s no shame in that. It’s easy to perceive someone else’s art asbetter than yours which would lead to some self-critical thoughts, but you haveto remember that the other artist is probably looking at their own art andpicking it apart, thinking “aw man there are so many mistakes here.” It’s fineto make mistakes, after all, that’s how we learn. Just because we see mistakesin our own art doesn’t mean that everyone else will too – nobody looks at artand their first thought is to list all of the mistakes present. As long as youare aware of what you are less confident in and actively work to improve it,you can quickly surpass even the people you look up to.

So yeah, sorry that this is hella longlol, but in all honestly I can understand what you’re going through. It’seasier said than done, but even though it might feel hard - don’t give up. Youmight feel like you’re not getting anywhere at the moment but I assure you thatif you just keep going, things will only get better. That’s the thing abouttumblr, if you keep posting art your audience can only grow. For now, I would definitelyrecommend joining some networks, and making some friends. It’s not uncommon forpeople to promo their own work in the network chat occasionally, as long as youdon’t spam haha

rey is anakin incarnated theory: 

since tfa was released, everyone has been debating who rey’s parents are. but personally, i think her parents are irrelevant. i believe that rey is anakin reincarnated. i have seen people talk about this theory but its pretty unpopular so im gonna provide with ‘evidence’ of why i think this.

the promo photos:

one of my main reasons why i believe rey is anakin is promoitonal photos of rey with anakins/lukes lightsaber. 

as you can see rey is doing the EXACT same poses as anakin even in the most recent look of rey. i don’t think this is a coincidence at all and disney or whoever is trying to tell us something???

rey’s skills and abilities:

in the final act of tfa, we see rey use force powers like mind trick and even uses anakins/lukes lightsaber like amazingly but this simply makes no sense. in the ot, luke had to train and train just to get to that level so for rey to pick that up straight away is just strange. but if rey is anakin, this actually makes sense! rey is just using the abilities she learnt in her past life as anakin! also at the beginning of tfa, we see rey fly the falcon perfectly and even fix a problem in a ship han couldn’t figure out. yes this has been explained in other media that rey always practised simulations of the falcon (or something like that??? i can’t remember rn) but even if she practised a lot i still don’t think she could be as amazing at flying as poe dameron. but anakin was very similar. at a young age, anakin was amazing as a pilot so match the two together! 

rey’s vision: 

tbh i think my evidence for this one is kinda shitty but oh fucking well!! another thing which i think is strange is how rey got a vision when she touched the lightsaber. but i always shrugged it off until a few days ago my friend xoch (@fincherdunne) brought up a great connection. star wars is no doubt based on the bible and has several parallels in the movies. before i talk about the connection i wanna say I KNOW HARDLY ANYTHING ABOUT CHRISTIANITY. i am mostly quoting what xoch told me and i probaly left out tons of her detail, so if u think something is wrong msg her! i dont think she’ll mind ppl asking or correcting her. anyway, in the bible there’s a story of a man called moses. moses never knew his parents which is similar to rey not remembering her parents. it isn’t until moses has a vision and finds out who his parents are and found out why they gave him away. there was a raid in the village and people and children were killed by the invaders. moses’s parentslaid him in a riverbank in a waterproof basket where he floated along the river until he was found (i think i got this completely wrong sorry HSUIHDUHUHFUDHF). i think this story is very similar to rey’s vision. the invaders are kylo destroying the jedi with maybe the knights of ren and i also think this connects to rey’s origin.

what i think is rey’s origin/rey’s vison pt ii:

this part is mostly my speculation and not much evidence. in the novel version of tfa (which is canon btw!) there is extra things added onto rey’s vision. rey sees a boy at the end of the cloud city hallway. i think the boy rey sees is the young anakin. we haven’t met any other important child in the star wars series unless the boy is a young ben solo, but i dont think so as we havent seen a young ben at all in all star wars media.

A boy appeared at the end of the hallway. She started toward him, and the world turned inside out, causing her to trip and fall.

after this we see luke in front of a fire with R2. i think this is when ben destroyed the academy and where rey was created. remember how anakin’s mother had a virgin birth? in the Legends book, ‘Darth Plagueis’, it tells the story of palpatine’s sith master and how anakin was created. Plagueis tried to create a dark side child using midichlorians but the midichlorians didn’t want this. plagueis created the child but the child ended up having a balance of both dark and light, a child powerful enough to take down the sith. you could say ‘well this is not canon anymore’ but even in the new canon, it is assumed anakin was created using midichlorians so this is pratically made canon. so if luke got powerful enough…couldn’t he create someone doing the same thing? maybe even powerful enough to bring back his dead father to take down kylo ren and the first order? maybe that’s why luke has such a shocked look at rey at the end of tfa. 

yes you’re very right ally people are certain rey is luke’s daughter but i dont believe this at all! jessica henwick who plays the resistance pilot, Jessika Pava, said in a Q&A that she auditioned of the role of rey. if poc was allowed to audition as rey…doesn’t that mean that she cant be luke’s daughter? mark hamill is white and jess henwick is asian so ???? unless luke’s wife is poc but…idk.

Well, the premise was that I'm someone that really wants to try out tumblr RP, but despite having years of normal experience, I've never done any of it on *tumblr* and the format seems really different from anything I've encountered before, plus...IDK how to start/how to get involved. You're a FNAF RPer and writer I have MASSIVE love and respect for, and honestly if you'd be willing to share a few tips on how to RP on this site I would be SUPER grateful. Sorry and thank you!!

Second of all…what do you mean by “normal experience”? I assume that means…RPing in chats or something? 

Third of all - ah, Tumblr’s format is something you grow used to very quickly! To be honest, it’s the best format for RPing that I’ve seen thus far. I think you’ll get the hang of it quickly enough.

Fourth of all - *cracks knuckles* Take a seat anono, Uncle Jordan’s gonna teach you the ins and outs of RP blogs:

Theme: it’s all very nice and well to want to make your blog look pretty, but you also have to bear in mind people need to read off of it. My partner and I were talking about this ages ago and we both agreed that we. really don’t like themes where the blog content itself is an 1/8 of the screen and the rest is a picture of the muse or something. We can’t read the posts. And, yes, it’s possible to zoom in, but it’s taxing. Pick a nice, neat theme that’s easy to read off of, that’s easy to navigate (make sure the links to rules/muse/mun/etc pages are clear to see, preferably get a theme with an easy-to-see page button etc etc.). Your theme, of course, is your choice, though, so don’t dictate every decision by “what my readers/partners would want” - this blog is for your enjoyment as well.

Promo: I would very much recommend making a promo and posting it in the main tag(s) of whatever fandom you’re RPing in (so, for FNaF, it’d be ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’, ‘FNaF’ and whatever character you’re RPing). Promos don’t have to look pretty. They don’t have to be these big, glorious gifs or a detailed picture of what your muse looks like or anything. Mine is just the office with some text slapped on, but it tells people what they need to know. I would also recommend writing a small list under the initial picture itself, maybe just writing things like “only sfw stuff”, “Mun is [insert age here]”, “Crossover friendly” etc. Up to you, though.

Rules: YES ABSOLUTELY HAVE RULES. THEY ARE THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT WHEN MAKING AN RP BLOG. WRITE THEM DOWN IN A DOCUMENT PRIOR TO MAKING THE BLOG IF YOU NEED TO. THEY ARE COMPLETELY DOWN TO YOU AND YOU SHOULD NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU TO STOP A RULE OR BREAK ONE. IF SOMEONE BREAKS ONE, KINDLY REMIND THEM. IF THEY CONTINUE, BLOCK THEM. IF SOMEONE TRIES TO RP WITH YOU AND BREAKS A RULE RIGHT OFF THE BAT, DON’T BOTHER. THEY CLEARLY DON’T RESPECT YOUR RULES ENOUGH. “I’M ON MOBILE” IS NOT AN EXCUSE - THEY SHOULD’VE ASKED BEFOREHAND. THESE RULES ARE FOR YOUR COMFORT. DO NOT LET ANYONE WALK ALL OVER THEM AND THINK THEY’RE BETTER THAN THEM. 

Rules (Part 2): RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE’S RULES. You want your rules to be respected, others will want the same. Re-read them if you’ve forgotten, apologise if you accidentally break one. Just respect your partners as much as you would like to be respected.

Rules (Part 3): The most basic things to put on a Rules page would be things like how you feel RPing with non-mutuals/anons/on IM messanger/characters that aren’t from your fandom. Make sure to jot those down, those are the most important!! Others would be things like RPing with people with the same muse or RPing certain themes, how you feel about your character being hurt/killed etc etc. Remember, these are for YOUR comfort. 

Mun Page: I would say very much yes, make one. It’s one thing to know the muse when RPing, but some people - like myself - need to know the mun a little bit before RPing too. That doesn’t mean you gotta talk to ‘em on a personal level first, but having a Mun page (and a clear Mun tag) will let potential partners know what you’re like (personality wise) before you write together. After all, you don’t want to write with someone you end up hating or anything. People with anxiety, in particular, would very much appreciate a Mun page. Doesn’t have to be your life story. Your (nick)name, gender identity and pronouns and maybe a link to your personal blog (if you’re willing to give it) are all I’d really recommend. The rest is up to you. But remember: don’t write anything on there you don’t want out (e.g. don’t write your name if you don’t want people to know it, same for gender [but pronouns are always appreciated] etc.)

Muse Page: YES MAKE ONE. Doesn’t have to be huge. Can be as simple as “Name, Age, Height, Gender, Pronouns, Personality”. For a FNaF muse, role in the universe may be appreciated too (are they a night guard?? A day guard?? A waiter?? Are they the boss or manager?? A customer?? It’s important to know). As with the Mun page, it is what you want people to know. Want to keep details of your muse’s backstory a secret?? Go for it. They’ll be revealed in due time, in a way you want ‘em to. BUT. This page is LITERALLY for introducing your muse. So, put things people NEED to know. Personality, for one. Pronouns for another. FUCKING NAME OF COURSE HAHA. But yeah. Give potential partners things to work with.

Tags Page: Up to you to make one! Personally, I do not (though I’ve been meaning to), but this is another way of helping people navigate on your blog!

AUs Page: Up to you, though I would recommend it in case people wanna read a certain AU or would like to take part themselves. Plus, there might be some confusion, so make sure to jot down what the AU is and whatnot. But, again, up to you. 

Relationships Page: Optional, but a cute way to show your partners/friends how much you like RPing with them! I know I always feel super good when people put my muses on Relationships pages. BUT for starting out (prior to your muse having such relationships), a Relationships page is a good way to show how your muse is with canon characters, as this gives them a gist of what to expect. On Mike’s, people who RP Phone Guy, for example, can learn that this Mike has a GOOD view of him and will get emotional if they meet, people who RP Freddy will know Mike doesn’t like him. It’s just a nice way of saying “this is what it’ll be like”. But, hey, optional. If you want, you can save this page for later when you have muses you’ve bonded with!

RP Memes: One of the best things you can do once you’ve set up is reblog RP memes. Give people a way to interact with you! It’ll also help your blog look less…..empty.

Introduce your Muse: Now, here’s a good tip for when you’ve just finished setting up: introduce your muse. Draw them. Write a drabble of their daily life. Do something. People will click the link to your blog and find it to be empty and few people will think “I shall be the first then!!”. Before you have RP partners, do something to say “here is my muse, right here on the front page, if you maybe wanna RP??”. My Mike was featured in my fic, Awake and Alive, before he was moved to Tumblr RP and I reblogged the link to the fic on his blog (as well as added a Fics page, which you might also like to do [or an art page if you’re an artist rather than a writer]!) so that people could get to know him. Worked wonders. Just do something so people have something of your muse to read when they first get on the blog, prior to having RP partners. Like your promo, post it in the main tag for the best results.

Tagging: Tagging doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to be pretty font or have a million punctuation marks on it. It’s, obviously, pretty damn important for both you (if you need to backtrack or just want to re-read a thread) and your readers. But you don’t have to make each tag some obscure reference or have it look fancy. So long as it’s easy to remember for you and your readers, use whatever tags you want. 

Format: IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU DON’T WANNA USE FANCY FORMAT. DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A NEW LINE FOR EVERY LITTLE THING, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BOLD EVERYTHING, YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO THAT TEXT THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO. IF PEOPLE TRY TO TELL YOU OTHERWISE, FUCK ‘EM. IF PEOPLE SAY YOUR FORMAT LOOKS BORING OR SOMETHING, FUCK ‘EM. DO IT HOW YOU WANT.

Reply Length: You don’t have to write a story for a reply. Replies can be short or long and both are fine! Your goal here is to give something for your partner(s) to work with. Some people have preferences on what they expect from partners (they may want short replies, long replies or just for replies to match theirs). Some people may ask for no single sentence replies and that’s fine. Personally, I like matching reply lengths.

Replies: Make replies CLEAR AND EASY TO READ. One or two mistakes here and there are no biggie, but constant mistakes are taxing to try and read. Make sure spelling, punctuation and grammar are, preferably, correct and nice and clear. And for the love of God - USE PARAGRAPHS ACCORDINGLY. Nothing more annoying than a big block of text for an RP reply.

Icons: Optional to use! Icons are a fun way to show your muse’s expression and tell people how they’re feeling with you describing it or you may just want them there to make the thread look nicer. Either way, they’re completely optional and don’t feel pressured to use them just cause other people do.

Shipping: Ah, yes. Shipping. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHIP IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO. Yes, shipping is nice and will give your readers something to gush over (like Microphone for Mike’s blog), but it is NOT a necessity. If you do decide to let shipping happen - YOU DON’T HAVE TO SHIP SOMETHING BECAUSE IT’LL MAKE OTHER PEOPLE HAPPY. IF YOU DO NOT SHIP SOMETHING, THEN YOU DO NOT SHIP IT. Don’t force yourself to write something you don’t want to - TRUST ME. I know. Also - DO NOT FORCE SHIPS ON PEOPLE AND DO NOT LET PEOPLE FORCE SHIPS ON YOU. Put your foot down and say no.

NSFW: I dunno how old you are, anon, but I’m putting this just in case: YES. YOU MUST BE 18+ TO RP SMUT. IT IS LITERALLY THE LAW. NO, IT DOESN’T MATTER IF IT’S DIFFERENT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY (for me, the legal age is 16). ABIDE BY THE RULES NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU MAY WANNA WRITE SMUT. IF PEOPLE TRICK YOU INTO BELIEVING THEY’RE 18+ AND THEY’RE NOT, BLOCK THEIR DUMB ARSES. REPORT THEM IF YOU FEEL THE NEED. IF THEY DIDN’T KNOW, BE GENTLE WITH ‘EM CAUSE SOME PEOPLE GENUINELY DON’T KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO BE 18+, BUT EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. IF THEY INSIST ON RPING SMUT, BLOCK ‘EM. Also!! Smut is a weird thing for some people. Some people don’t feel comfortable writing it, some people feel very comfortable writing it. Again, know your limits and don’t write what you don’t want to. If you don’t want to write smut, that’s an option. Say you’d rather fade to black. Say you’d rather there’d be no such thing on your blog. Up to you entirely. Don’t let people push you into it either. Just make sure you tag it!!

Triggers/Sensitive Subjects: Pay attention to other people’s triggers. Make a note of what they don’t like and tag it accordingly. Forgetting to is okay, don’t feel bad if you forget. Just make sure you do it in the future. If you have any triggers - Jesus Christ, yes, tell people. Even if you think it’s silly, TELL THEM. We don’t want your mental health getting affected by doing something you’re supposed to be having fun with. Sensitive topics, like blood, gore, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, body horror, rape, murder, death, suicide, self harm, nsfw etc. , in my opinion, should be automatically tagged just in case. They’re very common things to be put off by, so tag them automatically should they come up on your blog.

Trimming: For the love of God - YES TRIM YOUR POSTS. People will drop you like a hot potato if you do not. Seriously. I know I’ve unfollowed a good few people cause they don’t trim their RPs. It’s taxing to scroll through. If you can’t, say so either in a post, on your blog or in the tags of your RPs. Your partner(s) will do it for you. If they can’t, TAG IT ‘LONG POST’. If you are on mobile when you reply, tag it ‘Mobile’ to let your partner and readers know you can’t trim. Again, Partner will do it for you.

RP Tracker: Once you get going and have a fuck ton of RPs going on, it’s tricky to keep track of ‘em all. That’s where RP Tracker saves your life. It’s right here and the instructions to use it are on the site, but feel free to ask about anything if you so need to.

Making Friends: In my opinion, RPing is the BEST way to make friends on this site. You will meet people who have similar interests to you, who will joke around with you about your characters, who may even be interested in getting to know you when you’re not RPing (asking for your Skype or other contacts, playing games like CAH, following your personal etc.). Don’t be afraid to branch out and meet people, but still keep it on your terms. This is the same as picking RP partners - if you don’t like somebody, don’t feel bad. Some people just don’t click and that’s fine. You’ll meet your buddies soon. I know I’ve met the BEST people through RP blogs.

Jealousy: Okay, look. I’m gonna be real with you for a second here. Yes. It is normal to get jealous of other people, either people with the same muse (whom you may think plays the character better) or of people who are clicking better with someone you really want to RP with. Maybe you’re just jealous of someone’s style or skill of writing. Regardless - YES. IT IS NORMAL. You are a human being. You get jealous. There is no shame in it. What there IS shame in, however, is doing something with it. Don’t hate on anyone. Don’t try and tell people not to follow this person. Don’t try and break up the RP relationship the characters have. Don’t start drama. It’s fine to sit there and feel sorry for yourself, but don’t bring other people into it. Drink some water, calm down and carry on. Everyone is here to have fun.

Hate: Unfortunately, this is something that MAY happen. Some people may not like your OCs, some people may not like your characterisation, some people may feel the need to tell you how they feel about your ships. In the FNaF fandom, in particular, there’s always a danger of people telling you you aren’t using the ‘right’ theories, that you aren’t following canon, that the design you’re using for your character is ‘wrong’ (e.g. One Arm McBowtie Phone Guys may be told to use the Phone Head Phone Guy, Mikes may be told to use Marshmallow Schmidt, Purple Guys have the risk of being called Vincent, Dave or William etc.). DON’T LET THIS GET YOU DOWN! Don’t listen to hate. Delete the ask to get that negativity off of your blog. Don’t even reply to it (that’s what they want). Flip the bird at the screen, delete the message and go on your way. 

Headcanons, Theories, Backstory: This is sort of more relevant to the FNaF fandom, but may be relevant elsewhere: your muse’s backstory is something only you have control over. Do not let anyone try and ‘correct’ you. If you don’t headcanon Jeremy Fitzgerald as the Bite victim, say it and, if someone tries to tell you “yes he was!!”, fuck ‘em. Don’t feel obligated to follow the trends or even follow canon. You don’t like the whole William Afton’s daughter thing??? FUCK IT. Not relevant anymore, bye bye, don’t need it. Make sure to let people know and don’t take shit if someone tries to ‘correct’ you. Your blog, your rules.

Don’t let RPing take over: Now, I know this one might be tricky, but bear with me. RPing should not control your life. If you have school or work, complete whatever tasks you have for those first. The RPs will be there whilst you work. Complete your homework, do a task your boss has set. Also, don’t stay up too late or forget to eat or anything like this because of RPing. Timezones suck, surely, but don’t take away your sleep just so you can write. The RPs are always there, your life comes first. Sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry, drink when you’re thirsty, do your homework/chores/etc. RPing is surely the thing you’d prefer to do, but that doesn’t mean you SHOULD do it first.

Be confident: This is both in the context of interactions and your own writing. Don’t put yourself down if you feel less confident about your writing than other people with theirs. Everyone’s writing style is different, so please don’t compare your writing to other people’s. I know it’ll be tricky, but please don’t. Be proud of what you do! As for interaction: RPing is a two way streak. If people don’t come to you, you go to them. I know anxiety can be crippling, but take a nice, deep breath, type in a greeting/copy and paste that symbol or sentence for the RP Meme, close your eyes and click send. You’ll feel much better once it’s sent. I can guarantee, no one is finding you annoying, especially not on the very first interaction!

Be patient: I cannot stress this one enough. You will not get popular over night. People will not flock to your blog just cause it’s shiny and new. Gaining popularity takes time. Mike’s blog was up for three or four months before it suddenly took off, so please be patient with yourself. Just keep at it. If you give up, then it ruins the chance of your blog ever getting popular - and we wouldn’t want that! Just keep at it, keep RPing with people - the followers will come when they wanna.

Have fun: RPing is not a career (I WISH IT WAS WOWEE). It is a hobby done for fun. You do not have to force yourself to reply when you’re not in the mood. Muses are fickle things that come and go. If you need some time to yourself, do so. You do not have to justify yourself. If you’ve been away for a while, you don’t need to apologise. You have a life and RPing should not control it. People will understand.

hi other fanfiction writer friend! look how many of us there are. :D

this is a tricky one. warning up front: i am going to ramble a lot that’s what I do okay? okay, some big things to begin:

summaries are so so so so so important. don’t devalue your work, don’t say “it’s better than it sounds”. make it sound good. if you’re not sure, ask a friend, find a beta, whatever. it matters more than almost anything else.

on ao3, tags matter too!!!

the ship you’re writing for will SERIOUSLY influence the number of hits you get (I post almost exclusively on ao3, so, I’m just gonna go by my numbers and stuff there):

for example. I posted four fics on ao3 the same day (jan 11, so what… almost two weeks ago?), uploading them off tumblr.

the first is draco/ginny/blaise au, and currently has 74 hits, 7 kudos, and 1 comment (from an amazing reader who reads and comments on most of what I post!

the second is a flintwood soulmate fic, that has 231 hits, 30 kudos, and 3 comments (one from the same reader as above, and one from the lovely mxrcusflint)

the third is a ginny/blaise au that has 38 hits, 2 kudos, and no comments.

my two stories with the most hits are both dramione. one is a multi-chapter wip that I update twice a week. this is key for getting lots of hits because ao3 auto-sorts in the search field by update date, so it’s getting a lot of “air time” near the top of a search if people put in dramione. dramione is also a major ship. and, if you break that down by the number of chapters I have so far, it’s still only about ~370 hits per chapter. 

the second has been on ao3 for now like, two years, so it’s had a lot more time to rack up hits.

TLDR: bigger ships like dramione & drarry are more likely to get hits than rare pairs like ginny/blaise. long multi chapter fics that update regularly are more likely to get more hits than one shots.

having a tumblr has been a huge way I’ve drawn people to read my stuff!!! there are lots of much bigger better blogs than me that have given great advice about how to get more followers (petuniaevans I think is a good place to start?).

you have to tag well. tag first with the ship name. then i tag with, let’s use flintwood as an example. so I would tag “flintwood, marcus x oliver, oliver x marcus, hp fanfiction, harry potter”. the first five tags are the most important on tumblr so pay attention to those that you have at least tagged hp fanfiction and the ship name.

if you’re writing slytherin/gryffindor ships, tag slytherdornet! we will reblog your posts and that’s like, a LOT more people who are gonna see your content

if you’re writing a hp rare pair of any kind, tag hprarepairnet! same deal as above! find nets to tag and tag em!

if you’re writing something you think someone will like, tag them! i am bad at doing this bc I get stressed but it is a good way to make sure people don’t miss your stuff

the time of day you post matters. I am unemployed and seem to post at weird times like, the lunch hour or after midnight. i never get any notes on those. shamelessly reblog yourself!!! people have busy dashes and might miss it the first time around. schedule it if you want. don’t forget the tags. reblog at popular times, like. after dinner hour, and then don’t forget time zones. literally just keep… reblogging yourself…

make it easy for people to find your work. make a masterlist page. tag everything well.

make friends with people who ship your ships!!!

I literally cannot stress this enough

having a team of great supportive friends in your ship makes a world of difference

part of why i have fallen so hard into flintwood is because I have met some amazing people who inspire me daily with their edits and fics and our messenger conversations

they also reblog my stuff and i reblog theirs and that increases viewership? also like? I want their brilliant writing on my blog because it deserves readers too.

I wouldn’t suggest like, messaging someone for a promo… but you could if you felt comfortable!
