As we all already know, most of the characters in BSD, especially ability users, are based on real life authors. Stormbringer explicitly stated that bsd!Lippmann was "an extremely powerful skill user" so he must be based on someone. And guess what? There happens to be a writer with the exact name as his.

Walter Lippmann was an American journalist, politician, and writer. He was deemed as "the most gifted and influential American political journalist of the twentieth century". His works mostly took the theme of public relations and stuff. Sounds familiar?

I'd like to add this part from the etymology section of his(bsd) wiki btw, just in case you didn't know.

Does it end there? No, not quite.

Let's take a look at his most popular work; Public Opinion.

"...The pictures inside the heads of these human beings, the pictures of themselves, of others, of their needs, purposes, and relationship, are their public opinions. Those pictures which are acted upon by groups of people, or by individuals acting in the name of groups, are Public Opinion with capital letters."

People, generally, have some sort of "persona" of themselves that they would try to plant on other people's minds. Kinda like the Japanese "three faces" proverb, you may say. And how do they achieve it? By only presenting that persona; by masking; by acting.

"Royal personages are, of course, constructed personalities. Whether they themselves believe in their public character, or whether they merely permit the chamberlain to stage-manage it, there are at least two distinct selves, the public and regal self, the private and human."

Simply said, him being an actor might be a reference to (or a representation of) that human nature which P.O. talks of. An actor acts—they dive into the role of another character that's not them. (Which, when you think about it, is just what us humans do on a daily basis, except they do it professionally and for a living, which when you think about it again—)

Mr. Lippmann also published books titled "A Preface to Politics" and "A Preface to Morals" which is....interesting.

Okay, "preface" and "face" technically are different. Though they still share somewhat a similar meaning.

But hear me out. Let's go back to the persona thing. Generally, what people would want to be perceived as is as the perfect, ideal versions of themselves. To make that happen, they would have to put on a good first impression. And what's usually the first thing that people notice about a person? Correct—their appearance; their face.

Lippmann(bsd) was multiple times described as "perfect" (like okay asagiri, he's pretty, we get it), especially regarding his looks (and capabilities). See what I'm saying?

Lippmann was the stage face, the public image of the Port Mafia. He was the preface to the Port Mafia. He created the pictures in people's head of the Port Mafia.

As a verb, however, "face" has another meaning:

He negotiated with front companies, met and talked with political figures, and even dealt with the press if push came to shove.

I feel like this might be merely a coincidence or a pun, though. But the fact that his field of work in the Port Mafia was specifically negotiating with the "real world" is definitely not something Asagiri just pulled out of thin air—or so I believe to be the case, at least, having read this paragraph.

"This is the underlying reason for the existence of the press agent. The enormous discretion as to what facts and what impressions shall be reported is steadily convincing every organized group of people that whether it wishes to secure publicity or to avoid it, the exercise of discretion cannot be left to the reporter. Then again, these are but my interpretations and/or speculations which I'd like you to take with a grain of salt, as I could very well still be wrong (because Asagiri loves to trick us, apparently).

I have a near encyclopedic knowledge of bsd, so whenever I consume any fan content, it just ends up being stuff like this :

Elric thoughts update under the cut. First one's here if you wanna read it

Happy that Dyvim Tvar did end up making another appearance in The Stealer of Souls (alongside rather than against Elric which was nice), though his death was kinda disappointing. At least he didn't die to stormbringer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also cool of Dyvim Slorm to show up for The Flame Bringers with a Phoorn rider squad. Didn't really expect any of Elric's surviving kin to be willing to wake the dragons for him (or anything really). I could do with more Melnibonéans popping up (as messed up as they are lol).

And I gotta say, I dig whenever the dragons/Phoorn show up. As a (heavily) biased Dragonriders of Pern fan, I think it'd be neat if there were a few stories where they feature prominently alongside Elric instead of the more minor/tail-end appearances I've read so far. Elric being able to enjoy his culture/heritage while being able to temporarily forget his pain is nice and dragons are hella cool. I think The Citadel Of Forgotten Myths collection might have more to do with that but I haven't gotten too far into it yet.

To Rescue Tanelorn was interesting as well. Elric stories sans Elric himself. I'm not sure if there's more, but I definitely wouldn't mind reading more stories about the companions/side characters. The only downside is that they tend to die a lot... so I don't imagine there would be many more stories like this. Also I'm gonna be so sad if Moonglum dies. He's gotta live, right? Consistent companion numero uno can't die, surely. The friend without a reason, the friend without a cause.

Speaking of dying, I wish the bird of gold and silver got to stick around some more. I liked the idea of it and it's crash cymbal wings. Rip to it and Myshella. At least Theleb K'aarna is dead now.

Chuuya's favourite movie is a slice of life, romance movie. It's a low budget, made for tv movie, that if Chuuya didn't have a physical copy of, would have probably been lost to time.

The plot is fairly average, a guy's down on his luck, meets a girl, they fall in love ect. It's as formulaic as they come. Nothing particularly bad or good happens in the movie, the conflict is hardly there. If this movie was a flavour it would be vanilla.

Asking Chuuya what he likes about this movie doesn't help to understand his attachment to it. He'll just shrug and say "I like that its simple." There are plenty of other movies Chuuya really likes too and if you ask him about those, he can go off on whole tangents about why he likes those movies.

When Chuuya's had a long day and he's tired, he curl up on the sofa with a blanket and a warm drink and watch this movie. He's seen it thousands of times. The ending is really lackluster. Yet when he's feeling particularly lonely he'll be teary eyed by the time the credits roll.

So why this movie? Well, its one of Lippmann's earliest leading roles. Chuuya found it by accident one day, idly flicking through channels, and made it his mission to find a copy so he could watch it over and over. Because in this movie exists a world were nothing bad ever happened to Lippmann. Where the last thing Chuuya sees of him is his smiling face and not a corpse dropping from car trunk.

DAZAI cannot allow this. he is immediately pouty when he sees the flowers on your desk as the two of you walk into the office together. he concocts a plan silently, maybe he'll go through all the security footage and leave the son of a bitch a series of threatening messages till they quit or maybe he'll interrogate everyone throughout the day or maybe he'll- you're reading the message on the flowers. dazai panics, hurriedly moving to be back by your side again. what if you fall for them and leave him? his nerves settle when he notices you throw them out with an eye roll before turning to him.

"finish your work fast today, i made us reservations at your favorite restaurant, okay?" oh, looks like you're the one down bad for him. so he has nothing to worry about, after all.

CHUUYA makes a competition of it. this suitor thinks they can out love him? now that's called being delusional. they sent you a flower? expect a bouquet of your favorite flowers coming in the next 30 minutes. chocolates? chuuya already brought out all of your favorites, its literally out of stock everywhere. they brought you a card? chuuya will handwrite you a 100 page letter explaining how you're the best thing to happen to him. and if the suitors dares to ask you out in person? their world will be turned upside down. literally. chuuya will turn them upside down. its what they deserve, after all.

at the end of the day though, he is still human (? idk i haven't read stormbringer) and though he denies it, he does need a bit of comfort after fighting for you all day. it is you though. he will always fight for you.

RANPO doesn't mind. i mean, he's going to be the one eating the chocolates in the end so does it really matter? it does. it matters the minute you get bored of working and decide to read the letter the bozo left with the chocolates. he watches as a small smile creeps up onto your face and you let out a silent laugh. oh no, its time to put his detective skills to good use. within a few minutes he finds the scoundrel who sent you that letter based off the handwriting and... well he doesn't really have a plan after that so he tell the guy off and returns to your side.

he comes home a little later that night, with flowers and chocolates that he would also end up eating. but you don't mind. your just happy he's with you.
