i used to freehand comics all the time as a child and since the part i liked was the drawing part i would just draw panel after panel because i didn't want to stop drawing to think about icky icky words, plus the story TOTALLY still made perfect sense! to me! and noone else, but 'whoooo caaaaares omgggg its not like comics and sequantial art are a communicative meeediummmm lmaoooooo'. i spent my entire childhood telling myself stuff like "oh pfft I know this story by heart- ill SIMPLY remember the dialogue and write it later" ...and. The time has come sport fans. This is the last round for our debutant Stampede Vash. Its his last time to shine before his break. The crowd is not ready to say goodbye, but they know he deserves a break. Will he go all out? whats the worst thing that could happen am i right?

The contestant seems knocked out for a few minutes. No one can blame after the last round. Stampede vash seems out of it until he sees a red geranium that wakes him up AND HERE WE GO! FIRST POINT OF THE LAST EPISODE. HE GETS A "TRAUMATIC EVENT" POINT FOR REALIZING HIS MEMORIES ARE BEING CONTROLLED BY NAI AND HE RUNS. HE RUNS HE RUNS AND HE STRIKES A BEAUTIFUL "SAD OUTBURST" POINT. The suffering division has decided to grant him that type of point because he was crying and chasing the ghost of his dead mom, and according to the rules set after the Outburst Saga in the 60s, any really strong expression of sadness that is unusual for the person and lasts longer than 5 seconds counts as an outburst.

He has 2 points in the bag already, he keeps running. He saves meryl and starts fighting nai like the fucking gunman he is. From the fight he gets 1 "bad event" point for getting pushed against the wall enough to break it and/or damage it. The contestant keeps fighting, he falls and he strikes a beautiful "bad event" point with his wing. This is being set as a "bad event" point because we dont know if the wing will give him trauma in the future BUT it is for sure annoying to get a wing out of nowhere and hit a bunch of buildings.

he flies, flies higher and THERE WE GO, ANOTHER 2 "BAD EVENT" POINTS FOR BEING SHOT AT WHILE FLYING AND WHILE TRYING TO TALK. THE DEBUTANT TRIES TO REASON WITH THEM BUT A "TRAUMATIC EVENT" POINT COMES AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT THANKS TO NAI AND HIS BLOOD LUST.

STAMPEDE VASH FLIES AWAY WITH THE LITTLE STRENGH HE HAS LEFT, BUT IN THE WAY HE GETS 1 "ACTION" POINT FOR STILL TRYING TO TALK TO NAI AND HE STRIKES A "YIKES STATEMENT POINT." HIS "I WONT GIVE UP UNTIL THEY BELEIVE IN ME. I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES" PUTS IT ON THE BAG.

THE POINTS JUST KEEP COMING. 1 "TRAUMATIC EVENT" POINT FOR TRANSFORMING HIS OWN ARM AND 1 "ACTION" POINT FOR PUTTING HIMSELF IN DANGER FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS. THE BROTHERS FIGHT IN THE AIR, STAMPEDE VASH MAKES A RUN FOR IT. HIS FINAL TALK WITH NAI (from "since when we have been so different" to "because im vash the stampede") grants him 5 "YIKES STATEMENT" POINTS. THE AUDIENCE IS AN OCEAN OF TEARS AND SUFFERING.

BUT ITS NOT OVER FOLKS ITS NOT OVER. 1 "BAD EVENT" POINT FOR TURNING INTO A BALL OF FIRE. 1 "TRAUMATIZING EVENT" POINT FOR KILLING HIS BROTHER AND ANOTHER "TRAUMATIZING EVENT" POINT FOR KILLING AN ENTIRE CITY HOLY SHIT. SO MANY PEOPLE DIED FOR THIS PERFORMANCE

It seems like the contestant is done...no. wait wait. He waits a few minutes and he strikes a "bad event point" for not being wanted dead. He waits for a little bit- hes running...hes running and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

A FINAL "ACTION" POINT. HE IS SO MENTALLY UNWELL HE GOT AMNESIA AND PLAYS THE PIANO.

THE CROWD GOES WILD, THE OTHER CONTESTANTS TRY TO HOLD THEIR TEARS AND RUN TO HUG THE YOUNGEST CONTESTANT, THE DEBUTANT FALLS ON HIS KNEES BUT RISES HIS FIST IN VICTORY. WHAT A PERFORMANCE, TRULY AMAZING.

If we add the new 21 points he gathered today, he ends the season with 159 POINTS. AMAZING FOR A DEBUTANT, EVERYONE PLEASE, AN APPLAUSE FOR STAMPEDE VASH.

We wish him a happy break and we cannot wait to see the rest of his career.

myth's game writeup of 2023

i waited until the new year to finish this in case i managed to beat a game during december. i did not. ANYWAY.

this will contain new games as well as games i only got around to in 2023. light on spoilers but be warned

Octopath Traveler II (2023)

as far as i remember, this was the first new game I played this year, and god did it deliver. I've been a fan of octopath since the first one came out on switch in 2018, counting it as my favorite game of all time, so to have a sequel after all this time was thrilling. it did almost everything octopath 1 did and better. new path actions, day/night system, branching stories, fucking boats?? incredible.

my biggest gripe has to be the new hidden classes. I started with throne so getting inventor 10 minutes after my chapter one did definitely fuck up the progression a little bit. I think I preferred ot1 hidden classes. while the dungeons were underwhelming, the boss battles really make you fight for these secret techniques, something absent in 3 out of the 4 hidden classes of octopath 2.

overall: 4/5 BP.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed (2023)

xenoblade 3 as the end of the klaus trilogy really didn't sit well with me, for reasons that don't belong on my review of its dlc, but future redeemed fixed nearly every problem i had with base xc3 — both story and gameplay wise. it ties every xenoblade game and even some of gears and saga into a neat little 40 hour bow, and is truly a love letter to the entire series. I can only think of one problem I still have with it. the fucking menu music.

where do i even fucking start with this one really. relatively speaking, I'm a new xenoblade fan, having started xc1 in march 2022 during a harrowing experience with adhd meds, and since then it had kinda consumed me. I finished it in about a week, went on to watch xenoblade 2 because I had heard the gameplay wasn't great, and got my hands on xenoblade 3 day of release.

overall: 5 dance apples.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (2023)

as someone who was not immune to the hype surrounding botw, I had high hopes for the sequel. hopes that were painfully, slowly, fed into a trash compactor over my playthrough. this is another game I got on release day, lining up outside gamestop in the heat, and lets not forget that it's the only first-party switch game with a price tag of seventy bucks.

the game plays like a tech demo. I have a lot of love in my heart for it. the story was better that botw, the world was more expansive than botw, but the problem here is that everything it does is directly compared to breath of the wild. it doesn't get enough time to shine, because we're in the exact same world as 6 years ago, but instead of pinkish black malice we have blackish pink gloom. i much prefer the runes to the zonai abilities, and the sense of wonder that permeated breath of the wild is replaced by a sense of nostalgia that just doesn't appeal to me much.

all of this isn't to say it's a bad game. I think it's a great game, honestly, but a great game that wasn't meant for me. I've seen the insane shit people do with ultrahand, but it just... isn't my style.

Pikmin 4 (2023)

it's pikmin. i dont have much to say about it. it was a lot of fun, loved that part where i bulborbed all over those guys. im not a gameplay reviewer, at heart i mostly talk about story, and a game like pikmin doesn't have much for me to comment on. good fun. lived up to expectations. probably wouldn't replay.

overall: 7500 sparklium

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood (2017)

oh, stormblood... the rage you still fill my veins with. I'm not going to spend too long on this one because I have better things to do with my life than shit on an expansion everyone already hates, but let me make it clear I actually do have reasons for disliking it.

having ala mhigo built up since the very start of a realm reborn, only to have half of the ala mhigo expansion take place halfway across the star, was very disappointing. the monotony of the three areas in gyr abania compared to the three far east areas was very disappointing. the treatment of the people of the steppe and honestly that entire segment in the main story quest was very disappointing. hien, as a character, in his entirety, was very disappointing.

I will say it had strong parts. the 61-70 quests for several jobs were the strongest in their entire story (see: dark knight). the dungeons started to get more interesting. it gave us the quest Child Labor, which is hilarious and I'll never be finishing it because I want it there forever.

overall: 1/3 WHM Lillies.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers (2019)

ffxiv immediately got better the second 4.0 was over. even the patch quests instantly shot up in quality. it's not even funny. the lead up to shadowbringers was the most fun I had had with the game since a realm reborn, and all of the first was heartbreaking to go through even though I was spoiled on That Character's Identity.

the duty trust system (is that what it was called?) made dungeons much more fun. getting to go through hell with alphinaud alisaie and thancred made everything 10x better, even if it was a lot slower. the story, again, heartbreaking — ryne's arc in particular felt like being stabbed by thousands of little needles while trying to play. in the best way, of course. and amaurot... amaurot. getting to quote our favorite knight in there was my 8th umbral calamity.

shadowbringers also marks when a lot of your job's functionality is really unlocked, so doing the level 80 raid series was genuinely a ton of fun. and again the thousands of little needles. i cried at least 7 times during the main story.

overall: 85/100 kenki gauge.

Katana Zero (2019)

possibly my favorite game this year. the protagonist, zero (or as i like to call him, katana from zero,) ticked all the boxes for a character I'd be absolutely obsessed with. true enough, i fell in love. the fast-paced gameplay, the diegesis of gameplay elements which would typically go unquestioned, and the care that seeps through every dialogue choice all solidify katana zero as one of my favorite game experiences ever. I'll leave it at this, because I encourage everyone to at least give it a try.

overall: Yes, that should work.

Fire Emblem Engage (2023)

this is one of the few 2023 releases on this list that I didn't get on launch, because at the time I had relatively little interest in fire emblem as a series. then I made a lot of friends who enjoy it, and in october, bestie sen decided to buy it for me as an early birthday present. everyone say thank you sen.

considering this is my first fire emblem game, i have absolutely no deeper insight into how it matches up compared to the others, and plenty of people more eloquent than me have already talked about that. what I do know is that the gameplay was surprisingly fun as my first tactical rpg, and the story was passable. all the characters were appealing in one way or another, and I'm still mad I had to choose between marrying kagetsu or fogado. they're both my husbands at heart.

overall: I didn't internalize enough of this game to come up with a clever rating.

Fire Emblem Engage: Fell Xenologue (2023)

I was expecting the dlc to continue the main story, so I put it off until I had finished the base game. in hindsight, I regret it, because I'd love to have brought the winds and twins with me to fight their evil versions and alternate universe dad. the story was... alright. I really liked all the small battle interactions between fell characters and our party members which they would've known. I instantly recognized fogado in chapter 1 because I am in love with him by the way.

overall: i dont know. 1¾ dragonstones

with 2024 upon us, I'll probably be writing reviews for games as I play them. So i’ve unofficially called the last 12 months/year “the year i watched supernatural” because honesty it’s just a better way to face the last 12 months. Anyway here’s my unrequested thoughts on supernatural. 

It helped heal my religious trauma lol. (also spoilers)

Things i LOVED

The sibling trope/dynamic from the first couple seasons. Whenever they put cosmic importance on siblings i ate that shit up. That’s so fun. 

The vessel sagas. See above but Michael possessing Dean to kill Lucifer who’s possessing Sam??? Fucking love it. That’s so great. Also trying to force (aka torture) sam to accept Lucifer? Fantastic. 

The canonical answer that ‘god likes Sam and Dean so he gives them stupid hero luck”. I love that. That they didn’t get flat tires or sick or whatever while he liked them because he was watching out for their lactose intolerant asses. 

The SCOOBY DOO EPISODE. ENOUGH SAID AMAZING I LOVE 

The yellowed eye man plot. I know it’s like the first one but GOD i love everything about that arc. Sam’s visions?? The episode where the demon transports a bunch of them to test them?? Hell yeah

All the possessions. They were so fun. 

ALL THE EXPERIMENTAL WEIRD EPISODES. Like when they’re just office coworkers?? When they go to our world? That’s so fucking fun. 

That one scene when Crowley tortures that one pizza delivery angel? Fuck those are the best whumperflies in visusal format for me. Hell yeah. 

Things i liked 

Cass teleporting so randomly. 

The idea that humans made ‘gods’ like the old gods because wanted something to worship. Nice i like that take. 

“Squirrel and Moose” as nicknames. 

Demon traps and the little tattoos that keep them from being possessed. Very visual symbols. Also the black eye blink. Iconic.

Bobby 

The bunker (not the men of letters… just the bunker) 

How they used the same motel set and just changed the wallpaper and the room divider. I missed the hotel rooms. 

Garth 

Sam’s health conscious streak 

Nick as lucifer was so fun to watch. I was genuinely a bit sad when lucifer was possessing someone else/died. 

The gate to heaven is in a children’s playground. That’s funny, it feels irreverent, love it. 

Prophets. I like the prophets.

Things i hated/didn’t like 

The steins. Oh my god i had to stop watching. God we understand. We got it. Please don’t spell it out like that it hurt to watch 

The men of letters as legacy. They should have just found the bunker and been like “this is mine now”. The men of letters as a thing? Meh okay fine. 

Rowena never fully grew on me. Her accent sounded so fake the entire time i was half expecting her to drop it one day and be like “oh it was for fun” 

Oz. God, just stick to the bible. 

The needless double casting. Specifically chuck being god. I like chuck as a prophet, i love that they fought god, but chuck being god? Stupid. Annoying. Damaged the plot of the show. Should have just cast another dude to play god. 

The parallel universes. Meh leave it 

The episode in the girls highschool where they made a supernatural play. I had to skip that episode too cringy 

Sam’s beard 

The Campbell family was DUMB. Dumb and made no sense. 

Cass in “the empty”.... Just… what. If felt rushed and wrong and maybe it didn’t even stick?? IDK just weird and bad. 

The mark of cain was tiring. Okay concept but tiring and non too interesting.  

Mary coming back. That was weird.

A knock is heard on the door of the Kagawa residence. Pausing from what she was doing Ayaka stood and walked over to the door. Opening the door reveals the entirety of Death Row Block. Normally the sight of Katsushika Divison would fill many with fear but not Ayaka who was happy to see the people she considered family.

“Happy Birthday Ayaka.” Akihisa murmured.

"Aya-chan~! Happy Birthday~!" Touya loudly cheered giving Ayaka a gentle hug. 

“Happy Birthday short stuff.” Rintaro gently ruffled Ayaka’s hair. 

Letting them enter her house Ayaka noticed that each of them was carrying a gift. 

“Alright considering it's obvious what we're here for let's get to the good shit.” Rintaro teased placing his gift in Ayaka’s hands. “Hope you enjoy it, kid. I have a feeling you didn't have one of these as a kid.” Rintaro’s usual fierce expression softened to something kinder. 

Opening the gift reveals a white teddy bear with a pale gold ribbon around its neck. Ayaka nearly teared up at the sight of the gift. 

“Nearly got kicked out the toy store getting it so you better appreciate it, ya hear.” Rintaro jokingly threatened, giving Ayaka’s hair one last ruffle.

“Oh oh me next Aya-chan~! I hope you like it~!” Touya grinned placing his gift in Ayaka’s hands. 

Opening the gift reveals two gorgeous dresses one pink and one blue. Ayaka let out a gasp at the sight of the gift from the serial killer.

“I still don't know why I could've gone with my original idea.” Touya pouted. 

“Your original idea was a fucking knife from your personal collection Touya.  Do you even know where some of your knives have been?” Rintaro scolded elbowing his teammate. 

“Hisa-chan! Rin-chan is being mean to me again!”

“Oi! You little shit!”

“Touya, Rintaro please do not start a fight in Ayaka’s living room.” Akihisa scolds them. “Now then Ayaka this is my gift I do hope you enjoy it.” The ex-hitman placed his gift in Ayaka’s hands. 

Opening the gift reveals a small wooden music box with pink roses on the lid. Opening it up it began to play a lovely tune and Ayaka even noticed a place to place small bits of jewelry.

“I know your nightmares keep you up at night so I hope this helps,” Akihisa explained giving the young girl a gentle hug. “Now we have a few hours before someone realizes we’re not in Katsushika anymore. I managed to get a reservation at a restaurant here in Saga. So call Megumi and Mizuki and we can all go out to dinner for your birthday.”

To say that Ayaka was happy would be an understatement.

Her literal nuclear family unit was at her door how could she NOT be happy to see them.

“I missed you guys!”

Dream groaned as his screen flashed a dull red, congratulating George and Sap about their win from their Minecraft Manhunt; 2 hunters. Glancing at the time, he rubbed at his face and clicked out of everything, ending his video. Stretching he leaned back and glanced towards the bed, expecting you to already be cuddled up and passed out, but the comfy queen was empty…

Furrowing his brows, he scooted his chair back and left his room, moving downstairs as Sap came out of his room, still grinning.

“Hey man, nice hunt, though I’m surprised you made it go for so long,” Sap groaned as he joined Dream on the stairwell making the dirty blonde frown.

“What’re you talking about? Manhunts always go for a couple of hours?” Dream snorted as Sap frowned, only to sigh and pat his friend on the shoulder.

“Dude… You had date night tonight..?”

Dream’s eyes widened as he rushed further downstairs, turning into the living room and frowning at the sight. You curled up into the corner, an empty container on the coffee table and the credits rolling of The Twilight Saga; new moon. Squatting down next to you, he gently cradled your cheek as you hummed in sleep, cracking open your eyes as you broke into a smile, your eyes settling on your frowning boyfriend.

“Hiya handsome,”

“Hi, baby… Fuck, I’m so sorry I forgot,” Dream leaned into you, pressing soft kisses to your cheeks, nose, chin, lips - anywhere his lips could reach as you chuckled, raising your hand and threading it through his hair. “I just got so lost in the video, but that’s no excuse I promise I’ll make it up to you-”

“Dream, babe it’s okay, this is like… The first time you’ve forgotten, just don’t make it a full-time thing, yeah?” You laughed as Dream dove into you, circling your waist with his arms and picking you up, causing you to yell out.

“We’re going to bed, and I’m not letting you go until I see fit,” Dream stated, carrying you upstairs as you glanced to Sapnap, waving to him before you and your still disappointed boyfriend disappeared into his room.

Sapnap - he’s definitely more forgetful than Dream, but he tries okay? - a lot more clingy when he realizes what he did, definitely becomes more of a hopeless romantic

‘ Date Night Idiot!’ had been going off for an hour, you assuming Sap had snoozed it, not realizing why his alarm was going off.

“Dumb.. Okay! I had to set a few reminders,” Sap mumbled, pressing more kisses to your warmed skin, trying to hide away from his embarrassment. You closed his phone and slipped it back into his pocket before grabbing his hand and tugging him upstairs with you, his head hung low as you went into his room, besides a small light from his screen. so ive been a fan pkmn since the good year of 1998, u could not for the life of u me n dupree get my gameboy from my tiny child fingers n make me put down red or blue. my fav pkmn was pikachu, instantly. i still have my fav pikachu shirt from childhood ok listen. so thru the years watching the anime, seeing the movies in theater, playing the games time passes n we get to rse & admittedly i was burnt OUT. BURT THE FUCK OUT. but also, & pls no hate, i wasnt the biggest fan of the 3rd gen. i loved the sprites, the pkmn, the location, but the story itself just wasnt my thing & i rlly just felt the pang of man idk if im into this as i used to be which sucks when u lose a hyperfixation but also something that u rlly love n enjoyed n brought u immense joy. so i decided to be a wee bit edgy n be all bleh pkmn for babies as i totally very much still replayed rby & gsc etc etc. im a lil hypocrite if nothing. so when the ds came out n news of a new gen was on the horizon, i ignored it. however one of my high school besties did not & got diamond. it was also my birthday( fun fact i do share a release date birthday with platinum in america i will let u look it up ) & pal was like 'i wanted pearl so here take diamond as ur gift n lets go get my game n play together i kno u love pkmn' he was right. i do love pkmn n wow, wow. the first moments of diamond rlly just SNAPPED something within me. it was like falling in love with this series all over again. something about the world, the characters, the story, the pkmn it all fell into place n really really made me remember why i loved this franchise in the first place.

so, naturally i start paying attention again to pkmn news & more importantly: event pkmn. which lead me to this advertisement from toys r us. also fun fact: i have the shaymin image from this ad bc i cut it out, it's in my 3ds case at all times safe.

now, i saw this lil fella & i was like oh my god ur so adorable i need you. && so me n one of my high school besties who was as fanatic abt pkmn as me rushed off 2 our local toysrus n download the mystery gift. i go n open the summery of my shaymin & that was that. idk what happened. suddely pikachu was #2 in my heart( tho nowdays i do consider both shaymin & pikachu as my all time favs, but shaymin is like slightly higher on the list ). idk what it was ! this lil fella made me appreciate grass types, a type i normally dont care for at all but turtwig had started to fix that. i always had them in my party, i got a secondary diamond copy just to hACK TO DO THE OAKS LETTER EVENT. i loved them idk why something about the fact that this lil friend shaped creature is thankful to me in spite of everything was like the franchise itself saying thank you for always loving pkmn, for giving it a second chance, for like idk being a good friend. && that rlly resonated with me.

pkmn has been a franchise that has rlly helped me thru some shit & has always just been consistently there. every game since diamond ive loved more n more n more. && i think like gen4 will always be special for me & so will shaymin bc like as grateful as i am for pkmn it sorta feels like pkmn is grateful for me too & thats just like makes ur heartgut go emotional huh cause it does me too its ok anyways shaymin rules actually
