also for smt v replay i went with the version of newgame plus that carries over less because like. i just replayed p4g (ng+), p4a and p4au (i do not enjoy gameplay so i let the game autoplay), and pq2 (ng+). and while its fun to minmax and focus on completing like, more challenge-level content, for the love of god i need to do something more challenging

sure thing! so far ive only played arkham knight (didnt realize it was the last installment til i was halfway through the plot) so thatll be where im drawing from

-now, eddie is 100% bi (fight me), so hes not surprised when hes into a guy

-he is, however, surprised that hes actually romantically interested in someone enough to keep an eye on him as he navigates gotham

-this man... is interesting? and intelligent? that cant be possible, everyone but edward is a dribbling moron!

-but here you are, solving a few of the riddles hes placed around the city. he cant let you take the trophies, theyre for batman, but now hes certainly paying attention

-a few months after he first notices you, youre just go about your day when you notice a neon green question mark down an alley. another one of those trophies! might as well solve the puzzle, even if you dont get to keep it

-you solve the puzzle and go to try and grab the trophy, not expecting anything but a slight shock, but youre instead knocked to the ground from the voltage

-you wake up in default gothamite mode: tied to a chair in the middle of an empty room. of course, it had to happen eventually. soon, the riddler himself comes in to speak with you

-"good, youre awake. if i had to beat myself in chess again, id go completely insane"

-and he... sits down. sets up a chessboard on the table in front of you, and unties your hands. you play, mostly out of fear, and while you dont win, you get pretty close

-he looks shocked and excited, with a dash of smugness

-"i knew you were the one. second smartest man in gotham- right after me, of course"

-he explains to you that hes not going to kill you, just keep you ("i cant let that mind of yours make direct contact with the idiocy of gotham! your IQ will lower just by being around them!") and that he'll keep that mind of yours sharp

-how does he do this? puzzles. lots and lots of puzzles. hes a bit of a sadist, so the puzzles are mandatory if you want things like food. regardless of how you do, he'll keep you alive, but if you want anything more than the necessities, you better get good with puzzles

-he spends lots of time with you. he says its because youre the only interesting person in gotham, but its mostly because hes an incredibly lonely man. its hard being at the top, so he'll cling to anyone who can even get close to what he sees as his level

-he LOVES learning more about you. not that he didnt research you for months, but he could only gather so much information before kidnapping you. every conversation is like an interrogation

-in terms of affection, hes... interesting. if you earn your dinner, hes programming robots to serve as waiters and dusting off his green suit. i wouldnt call him a romantic, per se, but he certainly thinks of himself as such

-dont expect much in terms of physical affection, he takes a while to get to that point. hes the riddler, after all! hes above the need to cuddle! unless... if you need comfort, he supposes he can indulge you

-if you ever try to escape, he'll be furious. how dare you try and leave! how dare you assume hes dumb enough to not have planned for this! until you apologize, youre getting the bare necessities and no attention

-when you inevitably start to reciprocate, hes smug about it, but secretly ecstatic. he knows hes not the most charming guy around, but he managed to win over the second smartest guy in gotham. and isnt that all he really needs for companionship?

i love that lmfao but yea let me tell you about how we met. i love telling this story :)

so i used to be a leasing agent at the apartment complex i lived at, and my boyfriend (beef, for short) was a resident there. my job was to technically take care of his needs and i was absolutely not supposed to fraternize with residents per my employee contract. i remember one of the first times i really saw him was when i came into work kinda sick and i felt like shit and my boss told me to clean the coffee machines bcos a resident wanted coffee and it wasnt working. so i was all huffy like "ughhh fineee ok. fuck this resident ugh making me do my job or whatever" and i go over to clean the machine and lo and behold its beef. and im obvi like "damn this guy's kinda cute" and he was so polite too, saying thank you when i was done.

id see him around the complex, like when he'd come to get coffee or when hed take his dog to the dog parks and id be driving around in our golf cart, or when he'd come in to get an air filter bcos we provided those.

another time i saw him again was when he had called in that his rent amount was incorrect, and my boss explained to me that it is correct and that i needed to print out his ledger and give it to him so he can see for himself. now, i had no idea who he was, or that he was the "coffee-guy" from the first part of the story, so im all grumbly again like "ugh! i have to go alll the way over to drop off this ledger like doesnt he know how the rent works?? hes been living here long enough" and i drive over and i knock on the door all huffy and he opens it and i remember how awe struck i was. it was like the slow motion meet cutes in movies. he said hi and i froze up. i was all like "heres your ledger with your rent amount, take a look at it and call me if you've got any further questions" real tight lipped and profesh about it.

at this time i was seeing this other guy in a fwb situation, and we ended up breaking it off which i was actually pretty bummed about, and it was pretty hard to be in my bedroom after that cos i'd just think about that guy, right? i couldnt stay in my room. now where one of the coffee machines are was in the clubhouse where there was also a tv and i brought my ps4 and hooked it up so i could play batman: arkham knight somewhere other than my bedroom. i played for a bit before beef came in. while he was making his coffee late at night, he asked about the game, and we got to talking about the games we like to play, why he was drinking coffee this late was cos of his job at the time, etc etc. it was our first real conversation. i still have an instagram post from that night where i talked about "the hot resident"

conversations began easier after that. hed come in for coffee often (he told me later he started using the machine he didn't like, the one next to my work desk, just so he could be close to me and talk to me). i thought he was so fucking cute, i'd gush about him to my fave coworker (who i still keep in touch with) and i remember looking at her when beef was walking up and i was like "how do i look does my hair look okay" and i pulled out the hair tie i was wearing. and she let me get his air filter for him.

this was so long already, but if you'd like to hear more, let me know. theres more to the story :)

i guess not technically a comic book but comic adjacent did we forget how cat woman was sexualized in Arkham knight . like i love Arkham knight but does anyone remember the gif where someone swapped the batman and cat woman animations to show how sexualized it is . i feel like im going crayzay

I hate her outfit soooo bad and the way they animated her.... the thing is I like Catwoman being "sexy" because I feel it is often part of her narrative explicitly (many of her backgrounds being as a sex worker whether she wanted to be or not and the persona becoming a way to "reclaim" that part of herself; Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman has a different background but still retains this theme, frustrated with her own sexless existence but also feeling preyed upon and put down by men as Selina Kyle,but finding freedom and confidence and the right to her anger as Catwoman, although it terrifies her..... like I Actually Think Catwoman is an example of a genuine story where "sexy is empowerment" applies! A rare example! but that's because she has stories that put in the work and setup for this and acknowledge the harm she's experienced, often the explicit misogyny in her life). but if you're just gonna play with her like a boobalicious doll don't fucking bother. and "sexy" doesn't always mean "skimpy clothing" (again, I like how returns handles it- it is revealing and sexy, but the way she gets the costume and how it looks has context in the story and meaning, representative of how she had to create herself anew after her death, and also falling apart throughout the film to show how her internal struggle and quest for revenge is tearing her apart inside. similarly, the first volume of Catwoman has Selina receive a cat fetish costume from her boss with bad intentions, but ends up changing & repurposing it as her own.) That all being said.....I think there is a difference between doing it in good taste and bad taste. and I think the line of that is subjective, but you're gonna end up with some really sexist shit this way if you continue only writing and drawing to please the most basic interests of a fanbase that only wants pin-up girls and little else from female heroes. Catwoman is genuinely one of my favorite DC characters I prefer her over batman as a detective hero even sorry (read Catwoman 2002 everypony. please.) and it makes me soooo mad when Nobody Gets It.

i finally got around to playing Gotham knights and after playing all night and morning i have thoughts:

• Jason’s haircut reminds me of a cop i know and it makes me want to VOMIT

• everything else about the character designs are 10/10 tho

• i didn’t think i would like switching between characters but it’s kinda fun to decide who would be best for what missions and i feel like it’ll make the replay-ability of this game a lot higher bc cutscenes def vary based on who you play as at the time

• the crafting is SO COOL all the different suits and shit are awesome

• the knighthood thing is a cool concept but it’s a little too easy to get imo, should be a bit more grind-y

• i kinda procrastinated playing these bc i kept hearing people complain about the fps but honestly as a casual player ive not noticed any issues besides every so often an unconscious person’s model might kinda twitch a little but that happens in most games sooooo it’s really not an issue

• THE OPENING CUTSCENE like wow. i thought this was a follow up to arkham knight but i was clearly wrong and im ok with that

• the emails are adorable and make me very happy. the interaction between characters is 10/10 would watch again

Overall really liking the game so far, a bit worried about it being short (i feel like I’m progressing kinda fast but idk) and once again I need a fucking mod to fix Jason’s hair please IM BEGGING

ooo that’s a tough question, it really depends. favorite game of all time is probably red dead redemption 2, got me all in my feels and i’ve replayed the story (which is long as hell) about 3 times. like i had 700+ hours on that game before i finally got over how much i loved it. the story is beautifully devastating, even after i got the ending spoiled for myself i was thinking “well at least it won’t be that sad when i get to the end right?” yeah no i was bawling when i finished the game for the first time.

the spider-man games are also near and dear to my heart bc he’s been my fave since i was a little kid and i’ve also played those over and over again over a span of 2 years. finished the first game’s story three times, mile’s game three times, and im on my third play of sm2 as we speak. if you’re going “omg do you have a life???” the answer is definitely no.

as for dc, arkham knight is definitely my favorite. love the gameplay, love the story, love how immersive it is. every boss fight with the arkham knight had me quaking in my boots. only thing getting me through it was troy baker’s voice acting and jason’s voice modulator but if i explained why then i’d have to send this to vee 😛 ANYWAY arkham knight is definitely up there in my top games i’ve played. i feel an urge to mention gotham knights and kill the justice league too but i wouldn’t call those my TOP games. i just really like gk bc i get to play as red hood & nightwing, and i like ktjl bc i love anyrhing to do with the suicide squad and harley quinn.

yk one thing i could never play though? survival mode in minecraft. idk what it is but i’d fight batman with my own two hands before trying to survive one night in mc. 🦦

dw i've logged 7982 hours on the sims since i got it so. yeah, i get it. also!! minecraft survival mode is so fucking scary like i would genuinely rather die than play survival mode alone. it's even scary when playing with other people like??? creative mode till the day i die

i've seen lots of clips of spiderman on twitter and tiktok, and i always like the vids of him swinging around the city. it's so visually pleasing to watch but i'm not sure what the games about exactly. ig my thing with a lot of games is i prefer a game where i have more creative liberty over games where i'm following a timeline/plot to reach an ending. story games! i enjoy watching them but i'm not a big fan of playing them bc it requires a lot of brain power i don't have :(

i've listened to all of troy bakers lines in arkham knight despite never having played the game or watched a full walkthrough. he absolutely ate tho, i hope that check was FAT.

It made sense in the silver age bc it was the fucking silver age, and then it was just a burger named after him. Im okay with that. He saved someone, a burger got named after him, cool. Okay.

But then it turned into a whole ass fast food chain. Im not sure when this happened, might be Tom King's run, could have been in one of the '66 tie-in comics. I havent read those yet. It doesnt matter rn.

My problem lies with how incredibly insensitive it is in-universe. Like, its one thing to name and theme an establishment after the local cryptid, it happens all the time. (I.e: Mothman, Bigfoot, etc) but like,, Tom King's run has been a while for me (and admittadly i didnt read all of it) but im pretty sure Batman no longer has cryptid status? Still not okay because of the villain theming.

So A) capitalizing of someone else who is getting none of the money (regardless of if they need it). Fucked up but not unrealistic per se,

B) capitalizing of actual criminals who, yk, kill and hurt people and the world. Like im sorry but if my family and city got blown up by the Joker i would not like to "Jokerize those fries" thank you very much. Can you imagine if fucking,, Ted Bundy and the Nightstalker got a themed restaurant?? Thats insane. Or if Burger King released a new burger called "The Zodiac Killer's Roadside Bite" like thats not okay. People would understandably be mad.

There is this Btas episode (forgot what its called sorry) where this guy opens a casino themed after the Joker, knowing he would break out of Arkham to wreck the place so he could get the insurance money or something since he ran into financial issues during the build. I know they arent in the same universe but i do think its like,, well known that the Joker specifically does not fuck with being copied or used (unless he is behind it). Also Poison Ivy would certainly hate it, many villains would dislike it bc again, they are not making money of it and they too, have their own ideals and missions. Like Two-Face would be pissed (as would Harvey). Many of them are suffering from mental health issues and its capitalizing of that too. Leading to the next point:

C) knowingly endangering employees by making them a target for known (super)villains with established patterns of behavior for the sake of profit.

Also a lot of people don't like Batman in-universe (Or shouldnt.). So thats another controversy.

Like. It reminds me of that one story in Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight: #80-82: 'Idols' where some chap opens a Batman merch store and people get very mad about it. I think the story itself is kinda meh and Bruce is a little vague on what he thinks about it but it does show a likely response of the people. Mostly upset parents about the violence it inspires (in this batman-specific case)

As readers we can see the joke but its so tone deaf in-universe that it kinda breaks the suspension of belief. Like, fr, in real life i think its a fun idea (with dc villains and heroes), in-universe?? Dumb as hell. They should be DROWNING in cease-and-desist's and lawsuits and getting attacked by (super)villains/rogues on The Reg.

I also think the characters are way too chill about it. Sure, Bruce isn't happy with it but it's played for laughs. Jason is WAY too casual about being there. You would think a Joker hater like him would be firmly against it but yk, sure. Who gives a shit, right? Certainly not Mr. Jason "because he took me away from you" Todd. And thats not even touching the rest of the present cast.

(Sorry but i kinda miss the social commentary that used to be WAY more common in comics. Even in a casual sense. And sure, a lot were about drugs and not all of them were good but like at least they tried to put a social message in there. Not saying that all stories need them but yk. I think it can add something. Especially in, yk, superhero comics...)

And this could have been an interesting sub-plot, yk. But for as far as i know... crickets. Like could be a silly plot where Two-Face breaks out to start a (sham) trial. Or a more serious one that also contributes to the Gotham City world building, like activist and victim groups as well as a general temperature tap on how the city feels about Batman and Villains. Could be additional to the plot. Supporting it, even. But no. Whatever. Im not Bitter about mediocre writing that missed the opportunity to make this a deeper story commenting on capitalization or a traumatized society.

Also Big Belly Burger exists. Why not just use it?

Also i dislike Bruce eating burgers with cutlery. Like im sorry but thats just not something he would do. I know he has been written like this serious/boring/hard-ass/formal guy For a while and often but he really isn't supposed to be. It's not that important and i like that Duke was there but it kinda bothers me. Maybe because it reminds me of my grandma, idk.

Walking around in my room absolutely FUMING on my hatred for Bat Burger (in modern context). I love campy things being brought into modern comics but Bat Burger i do NOT fuck with.
