hey detective! can you find the original "oohb i have plany off time" post? i can't seem to find it.

trackin' down this post was hard enough, but gettin' the link? that was a whole other challenge. see, i went to my usual source, the good ol' google search bar, and asked them about the post. they handed me a couple screenshots. so i typed in the username and went to the blog that posted it. however, this wasn't the same blog. their original blog was deactivated, and they moved to a new one with the same name. trackin' down their original blog was hard, as it didn't exist anymore, but i eventually did it. but that posed a problem. i found the post, but couldn't get the link because it was gone. and tryin' to reverse engineer the post through reblogs was proving to be a futile effort.

i was ready to throw in the towel when i had a brilliant idea. i copied the webpage link to the archived post into this post, and saved it as a draft. i then opened that draft on the mobile app and clicked the link. instead of taking me to the archived webpage, i was brought straight to the original post on tumblr. i copied the link on mobile, pasted that into the draft, and there it was. the link.

Can we just fucking cut it with the anti-therapy shit here? Its not only deeply ignorant, but it's dangerous. Discouraging people from trying things to improve their mental health is a great way to prevent their mental health from improving. If you've been considering trying therapy I would greatly encourage you to give it a chance. Whether it's online, in person, or even over text which I've heard is an option now which is great for people who struggle with face to face communication of any kind.

The response to people claiming everybody needs therapy and therapy will cure all of your problems isn't a hard pivot in the other direction. Therapy works for certain people, because everyone is different. Truth is problems like depression are a vague set of commonly associated behaviors, what's actually going on in different people's brains isn't nearly as easy to map. I personally know people who consider their therapist to have saved their life, and I myself tried therapy multiple times and it's had no effect. I don't blame my therapist, I didn't work for me because it just wasn't for me and that isn't anyone's fault.

And fucking especially don't be actively antagonistic toward your therapist. I hate stories like "my therapist told me to draw what I feel and I decided to just start eating the notebook to see how he'd react and he didn't know what to do lol." If you aren't cooperating then therapy won't fucking work. They aren't wizards who cast magical mental health engoodening spells, they're specialists who's job is to help you figure out what's going on in your head and figure out ways to improve your mental state. They aren't psychics. They can't read your mind. You need to be transparent.

If you can't figure out what to draw, or how to put your feelings into words, or whatever they're asking, just fucking tell them that. The entire point of therapy is having someone to communicate with, many people become licensed therapists because they themselves went through these problems and want to help others find a way through them. I'm sick and tired of Tumblr insisting all therapists are bad because they had a bad experience with therapy 10 years ago and think all therapists act like the paid actors in better help commercials.

Also, just to end, did you go to a mental health professional who specializes in the conditions you're suffering from, or did you type therapy into Google and call the first number you saw? I promise you finding the right therapist may actually make a difference. It might not. As I said, therapy just didn't work for me after I went to multiple different therapists, but I didn't write off the practice. Just like I don't write off anti-depressants, or mediation, or aroma therapy, ECT, the human brain is a complicated puzzle and we all must find a solution that works for us.

The last thing we need to be doing is telling someone not to look where they may find a missing piece.

gonna delete this later bc i know it’s unproductive to screenshot / namedrop and i actually am thinking the best approach would just be to privately share this thought w the dev who posted this in a possibly futile attempt to effectively advocate for the change i want to see (#worktag2 lol). but im workshopping it here w my beloved mutuals first as i always do which is kinda shooting myself in the foot given that the devs can probably see that but whatever. my thought is like… i get it. i really do. i get that this place needs to stay afloat and some of that is gonna involve sacrifice or something from everyone involved. but… why would you try to snuff out the things that make this place what it is and just make it like all the other places. why would you not even take into account how the changes are going to impact EXISTING users who are loyal even if they don’t pay. people aren’t going to come to tumblr for more tiktok and instagram. they’re going to come here for tumblr. for the anonymity and the customization and whatever. so like i just don’t get it. why is the solution to this problem to experiment with changes **that existing users won’t like** and not to listen to what existing users want and do more of it bc other ppl likely will want that too.

a real simple case, especially after gandalfs big naturals. this one involved me going straight to the source. i corned one-time-i-dreamt in a back alley and asked them if they knew anything about a "sleep class." the fool cracked instantly. they immediately handed me the exact post i had been lookin' for. strangely enough, the post wasn't even one of theirs, but actually one they reblogged. stranger still was the figure depicted in the post. spooky.

I get that I'm super excitable about tracer and I'm sorry for the fact that I over do things sometimes, but I'm just so obsessed with this character that has become mine. And it hurts when that's ignored for other things that I'm less passionate about, as if my time and energy dedicated to her is less important than that something else.
