i don't know how people make fried chicken with the 'dip in flour, dip in beaten egg, dip in flour again' method. like it feels like an elaborate prank on everyone that we just keep perpetuating. the egg never fully sticks to the flour and then the flour doesn't fully stick to the egg and now your hands are slimy and you have all this leftover unused egg and flour. and your breading is probably going to fall off in places once it's actually frying

the end of an era (and the start of a new one) (iv) // platonic! mercedes amg
Tumblr media
summary: toto gives y/n the final verdict on her future with mercedes amg, and the results are better than she ever could have imagined.
pairing: platonic! mercedes amg petronas x female reader
warnings: this is actually the first installment of the series that doesn’t have any wow look at that-
author's note: here's a quick little chapter checking up on baby merc! this may seem like the end, but i promise it's not. im going to try my hardest to continue baby merc's story <3
the bowling alley was loud, and y/n had already broken a nail twice.
not that she minded, because for all she knew, this could be the last team outing that she was ever invited on. her field placement was coming to a close, and toto had never given her a final answer on where she was going next.
or if she was going anywhere at all. in a perfect world, she'd be staying with these people that she now called family. in the real world, life wasn't that simple.
but she could hope.
"george, you slimy cheating bastard!" she laughed, watching the briton score another strike. "come on, there's no way you're winning with that strong a lead."
"read it and weep, baby merc!" george laughed, taking a dramatic bow.
bowling had been lewis' idea. typically, taking the team bowling was something he did in japan. but with all the people leaving mercedes at the end of this season, he wanted to make sure they all got to be included in the team bonding ritual.
"every day you surprise me more and more." peter bonnington chuckled. "y/n, it's your go!"
"how am i supposed to match up to mr. posh spice over there?" she laughed, pointing at george before walking over to the ball machine. "i sacrificed a wonderful home manicure for this."
she bowled, taking half the pins out in one go, and all but two in the second. bowling had never been her strong suit, and normally she would have complained. but she found that her friendship with the team had grown and fostered so much that they could make even cleaning a bathroom a more enjoyable task.
she'd be really upset if she needed to let them go, that's for sure.
games finished (george had won, of course), the team sat around a big metal table (she felt like a character in a john hughes movie, but without the romantic interest. olli had texted her a few times since the holiday party, but she had continued to shoot him down), baskets of french fries, chicken tenders and a large salad for lewis in front of them.
it was bittersweet, with so many people leaving the team, and toto was the first to say so when he got up to give a speech.
"it's been a long season. the car was shit, but we made it work. we're also losing some valued members of this team. angela. nyck. james. you will forever be remembered, and know that you always have a home at mercedes if you want it."
the table started clapping as toto finished. y/n was going to miss nyck, but he'd still be around. just at a different team. she'd miss angela, but the physiotherapist would always be one phone call away if she needed her.
the three in question sat on one side of the table, teary eyed and grateful for the send-off.
"additionally, we have some new faces joining us for 2023 that i am very excited for you to meet." toto grinned. "i'd like to welcome our new reserve driver, mick schumacher."
next to y/n, mick blushed, trying to hide as the table cheererd for him, a tina turner song playing over the stereo as y/n laughed, pulling him in for a side hug.
"and, this comes as no surprise to any of us, on behalf of the mercedes amg petronas f1 team, i would like to formally offer our new intern, y/n y/l/n a permanent spot on the team for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. if you'll have us."
if the cheers for mick were loud, the cheers for y/n were louder. she was frozen, halfway to tears before she snapped out of it, lewis' hand on her shoulder as he congratulated her.
"we knew you could do it."
"thanks, lew." she beamed, giving the world champion a proper hug. "i love you guys. tahnks for letting me stay."
"don't thank us." nyck laughed. "thank toto. he's the one who made the final decision. but it was a no-brainer. you were going to stay anyways."
getting out of her chair, y/n crossed the table to throw her arms around toto wolff. the man was shocked at first, but eased into it, wrapping the younger girl in his arms.
"thank you, toto."
"welcome to the family, y/n." toto laughed. "we're lucky to have you."
and that's when she knew she found it. the family that she had always been looking for.
and she knew that she was going to be okay. for real, this time.
because true family are the friends that you make along the way.

My Thoughts on Tower of God Season 2 Episode 2
So, premiere was great! Now it's time for a slower episode!
WEBTOON SPOILERS WAS TEASED BUT NOT OUTRIGHT STATED
Rating: 8/10
Summary: Music was great! Not much happened as it is meant to be the calm before the storm, but it was still enjoyable! I was a little disappointed over some of the scenes that were skipped but it's not a huge deal-breaker for me.
Tumblr media
Always loved Rachel's story to Bam. Because it shows how different they are. Bam finds the story sad, but Rachel sees it as a happy one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HAHA MY FAV SCENE IS ANIMATED NOW YAY! THIS WAS SO FUNNY.
Tumblr media
This scene was always so cute! Miseng giving the "monster" some chocolate, and the "monster" actually accepting it politely. But...i thought she gave chips in the webtoon??? I dont know. I wonder if Viole thought of Rak when he saw that chocolate bar.
Tumblr media
Oof I forgot that Prince was a jerk back then
Tumblr media
WELL PUT HIM IN THE RING WITH HATZ AGAIN I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT. Also it's so cool to see Hatz's name be held with such honour. Team Shibisu really made a name for themselves!
Tumblr media
THE GOAT IS HEREEEEEEEEE. Also perfect voice for him! Exactly how I pictured it!
Tumblr media
Man they nailed the feeling of dread they're all having over geting so low. I legit felt so sorry for them despite knowing what happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ABSOLUTE QUEEN I LOVE HER SIU I BEG OF YOU BRING HER BACK IN THE WEBTOON PLEASE I WANNA SEE HER AGAIINNNN
Tumblr media
Hehehe He loves his fried chicken!
Tumblr media
And its finally here! The OST was perfect for the build up. Viole just lightly touched it without making a sound and he instantly went to 1st place! Though, i remember Love doing the test as well and still scoring higher, showing that Rankers are still stronger than Viole and forshadowin of what's to come. I wish they kept that in.
Tumblr media
I felt a bit sad seeing some anime-onlies finding this scene cringe. But honestly? I love it. Because it shows how unlike most of them, Wagnan KNOWS he's weaker. He KNOWS he needs someone to help him. And he NEEDS to climb the tower no matter what. So he is going to try his absolute hardest to be picked, even if he has to humiliate himself. That's dedication. Usually other stories would show these types of people as pathetic so it makes sense that people found this scene pathetic as well. Just wanted to provide my thoughts on this scene and why I love it so much. Oh and I love how the only people that begged were the ones who NEEDS to climb the tower no matter what.
Tumblr media
:(((((((((((((((((((((( Poor Bam.
Tumblr media
No thoughts I just love every scene Yihwa is in
Tumblr media
BAHAHAHAHA IM SO GLAD THEY AT LEAST KEPT THIS SCENE IN IT WAS SO FUNNY!! (Also Yihwa's VA absolute kills this role I love her performance)
Tumblr media
Hmm they skipped the whole bath scene. Tragic but given the amount of episodes for this cour, makes sense.
Honestly looking back at this scene, I didn't realise that it also shows that Viole's doesn't care about eliminating Jahad and the Ten Great Families. If he did, Wagnan would've been so screwed. But he just got his ring back without any further questioning.
Okayyy so that's all I have to say about episode 2. Sorry that I don't have much thoughts about this episode. It was mostly talking. But now, I am caught up with the episodes I have already watched! Episode 3's post will be my most initial thoughts as I will be watching while writing my thoughts!

Omg breakfast? Lemme tell you all about it
I know you want more savoury so imma just run through the sweet ones if u one day want one haha
Porridge but the fancy version. I do it on oat milk with cacao and bananas and sometimes yogurt as topping. Even better is Greek yogurt with apples fried in butter with cinnamon and a little bit of honey (like not a lot of butter just so there is something on the pan).
I love bruschetta with tomatoes. I can eat it every day really. Shakshouka, it takes a lil bit more time but it’s delicious. Basic avocado toast? With fried eggs? Also love it. Scrambled eggs on toast too. But I recommend doing the creamy ones. Idk I just discovered I’m pretty basic when it comes to breakfast.
Also in Poland idk if everywhere but in my region people eat lots of milk things for breakfast. So porridge, semolina pudding, even milk soups. Milk and poured noodles („kluski lane” in polish cause idk if the translation is the thing I think of), milk and pasta even!
i am a Picky Eater and ur ab to hear ab all my weird food things. im so sorry. im gna give my opinions on ur breakfast then tell u ab minee. read more bc this is long
i have never had porridge but i don't like that name. i occasionally like oatmeal which is a kind of porridge, made with rolled oats, but it also makes me vomit sometimes. so i would not eat porridge generally speaking.
i might try bruschetta. isn't that just like basically garlic bread ?? but cut the tomatoes. i only like cooked tomatoes in a sauce. not a fan of the chunks. bad mouth feel.
avocado toast >>> god tier breakfast tbh. would not eat w fried eggs on it tho bc i only like scrambled eggs. would not put scrambled eggs on my avocado toast.
scrambled eggs on toast minus avocado is good tho!! one of the best breakfast sandwiches ive ever had was bacon n scrambled eggs on rye bread from this cafe in kansas city. i genuinely have been planning to go back there just to get another sandwich.
shakshouka looks good tbh. ive watched sm cooking videos of ppl making it but i would not eat it bc.. eggs and tomatoes sound gross together. and i don't like poached eggs.
had to look up kluski lane, and i dont like egg drop noodles. bad texture. also not a soup fan generally speaking, potato soup and chicken and dumplings are the exception and only because i know how to cook them really well. im not a fan of my food being wet.
i have a lot to say about milk soup and milk and pasta and it is not nice. i just. hate the idea.
i love cooking. i love breakfast food. i will eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner numerous days in a row. bacon, eggs, sausage, potatoes. you can make the potatoes so many different ways for variety first of all, but then you can a scramble, a taco, a sandwich. whatever u want. love a breakfast taco and i know i said i hate tomatoes unless they're cooked but the exception is pico de gallo because i put that in my breakfast tacos sometimes.
love love love making a bagel sandwich, i don't like fried eggs so i make a lil omelet and fold it to fit my bagel, and put bacon, cheese, cream cheese, and avocado on them.
i also like muffins a lot, blueberry, banana nut, wildberry. i'll eat them every day for breakfast until im sick of them and then can't look at them for a year. currently have not had a muffin in months.
i also really love doing pigs n a blanket/sausage rolls. whatever u wanna call them. love donuts and some kolaches, but it rly depends on where u get them and i grew up in/near a czech town so i am very judgemental ab kolaches

Love On Tour…Actually
Tumblr media
{Im sorry for how late this was. I went to the show Friday and honestly, it was the best day of my life. I had a little PCD which made me super unmotivated but I’m back. I love you all, R}
You woke up a little grumpy, you won’t lie. You didn’t like waking up alone especially on a show day. It made you uncomfortable to be left to your own devices without any structure or schedule. You understood that Harry was a busy man but it would’ve been nice to receive some text so you could plan your day accordingly.
Sitting on the couch in the lounge of your hotel room, you chowed down on leftover pasta while watching Netflix on your iPad. You had yet to receive a text from Harry even though you had texted him hours ago when you woke up. It was hard to tell if he was ignoring you out of anger or if he was simply just lost in track. Either way you felt dejected.
On the other hand, Harry hadn’t even noticed that he iced you. He was busy running around Nashville trying to get things ready for tonight’s show. He bought you a new dress and shoes, and got the ring fitted. It was hard to figure out your ring size but he end up measuring your finger when you were passed out asleep in bed last night. When you slept, you slept and he knew that would be the perfect time to measure your finger.
Harry was so busy that morning, that by the end of his errands he realized he didn’t even have time to go back to the hotel before rehearsals. He was sporting a small cough and his vocal chords felt overworked but that’s all apart of tour.
Pulling his phone out of his back pocket as he walked into the arena, he dialed your number quickly. He had people trying to talk to him but he paid them no mind.
“Oh? Would you look who’s here?” Harry’s head shot up to the sound of your voice. There you sat on his dressing room couch, arms crossed over one another as you glared at him. Your gaze burned through him and he could just tell he was in trouble.
“Hello lovie.” Harry rasped.
“Harry you sound like shit but here you are up and about running around. You should’ve slept in this morning.” Scolding as you stand up to walk in front of him. Harry could feel the anger radiate off of you but you hid it well. He melted into your hands that cupped his warm cheeks.
“I had a lot of errands to run and I didn’t want to wake you. Also it’s just a sore throat from singing and traveling- comes with being on tour.” He mumbles dropping his head into your neck. You caress the hairs on the back on his neck and massage the tense muscles.
“You’ve got to think about yourself more, Harry. You have a show to put on but you can’t put on your best show if you’re not at your best. I am not happy with you at all.” Even though your words were scolding him, you held him your arms in the most soothing way. That’s what Harry loved about you, you cared for him like no one else could (aside from his mom). You could tell him off with your harshest words but he’d always feel your love from miles away.
“You’re right love, sorry for not keeping in touch today.” You hum in acknowledgement. You both pulled away from each other when his driver walked in with Harry’s abundance of bags. “Thank you, sir.”
“What all did you buy?” You ask walking towards the bags. Harry’s arm shot out in front of you making you stop. You looked up at him in shock. “Fine be secretive.”
You huffed before making your way back to the couch. Harry rolled his eyes at you, making way to his shopping bags. Plucking the bag from Nordstrom he plopped it down on the table in front of you.
“I just didn’t want you snooping at some other stuff. I bought you this, for tonight.” He sat down beside you, thighs touching leaving no room between you two.
“Im not trying to be mean. Just a little peeved that you left this morning without telling me. You also have a cold and I wanna take care of you since you won’t do it.” A hand rubs his forehead luring his eyes shut.
“Sorry baby, I thank you for caring so much.” He whispers sleepily.
“Im always gonna care for my bubs.” Kissing him on the lips, your turn your attention to the bag. The small grey bag had light tissue paper covering the product within the bag. The tissue falls to the floor as you dig into the bag. A silky champagne dress, folded neatly to decrease wrinkles, sits in the bag. The dress was soft and you knew it was loose enough to give you the room to dance. Soft snores escaped the boy beside you- the exhaustion evident on his face.
You pull the dress out of the bag and walk over to where his outfit of the night hung. The dress was hung beside his to be steamed for later. Turning around, you smile at the sight of your curled up boyfriend. Your heart hurt knowing that in a few minutes he would have to go rehearse.
Harry sleepily went through rehearsals sitting in a chair the whole time. He knew his stage cues and performance, he only had one more thing to rehearse but it required for you to not be in the room. He gave one look to Jeff to signal him to get you out. Jeff made up some excuse saying that he needed help with some social media post for the show.
Before the show, there was a catered dinner from some local restaurant. Harry ate a light meal of fresh vegetables and a sweet iced tea which has grown on him having lived in the states for some years. You ate grilled chicken and fries enjoying the free food. The two of you ate alone in his dressing room- wanting a moment of piece before the crazy.
“How are you feeling?” You ask Harry. He shrugs, he was more nervous than anything but you wouldn’t understand why if he had told that to you. He felt floaty. Tonight would be a game changer, a step in a whole new direction. This is something he’s wanted to do for years now but it’s finally happening, and he’s scared.
"Im ok, a little tired but what else is new. I can't wait to sleep all night and cuddle with you." He grabs your hand from across the table. you squeeze it, frowning at his revelation.
"I don't like that you're so tired." You worry, his hand squeezes yours in reassurance.
“Im ok, it’s all apart if the job.” He looks down to your bare ring finger, thumb brushing over the empty spot. Your nails were done in your favorite way, some funky pattern you found from Pinterest all painted on short coffin nails.
“I love you Harry and I’m so proud of you. I know that these years put us both in a bad place mentally but I’m happy of where we are now.” Harry could almost tear up to your words. They settled into his mind, resonating. He was making the perfect decision and you solidified that ideal.
2014
Harry didn’t know how they did it. A show every night, a new state everyday, a new country every few months- he was burnt out. He was tired of shared tour buses and the lack of autonomy. Last nights LA show was amazing, the crowd was amazing, the energy was amazing- so why did he feel so horrid?
He walked around in The Grove, security guards walking in front and behind him. He wanted a peaceful day alone but here they were. Fans watched suspiciously trying to decipher if it was Harry or not. His hat and sunglasses were obviously not the disguise he thought they would be.
As the whispers got louder, his heart started to flurry more. Panic seeped into his veins as he looked for an escape. Bolting in the Barnes and Nobles- security guards close behind- Harry asked for the employees to close shop just for a moment. Harry only needed a moment to get a car near by to escape to. Feeling overwhelmed, Harry hid.
In between the historical fiction and romance aisle is where he sat. Head between his knees, trying to catch his breathe.
“Are you ok?” A voice asked from above him. His head whipped up in shock. Standing there was you, three books clutched between your arms. Adjusting your dress you dropped down to the floor in front of him.
“I-im fine, tired but fine.” He replied. He looked different than he did the night before, you thought. Last night, he was energetic and full of life and now, now you saw a boy whose exhaustion overpowered him.
“You here for any books?” You were just trying to change the subject, something you did with yourself when you had panic attacks.
“Oh no, I don’t-“ he stuttered shaking his head. You smiled at him before pulling a book from your stack. The fault In Our Stars, your new favorite.
“I love this book, one of my favorites. Heard a movie is coming out too so that’s fun.” You joke. Harry’s relaxed slightly, you nestled closer to him. Opening the book, you began reading, your gentle voice calming Harry.
At the start of chapter four, an interruption pulled you both away. Harry’s security guard told Harry that a car was waiting and the perimeter of the store was clear. Harry nodded telling the guard to give him five more minutes.
“I guess this is it.” You mumble closing your book. Harry nods but makes no move to leave. Something clicks in him as he looks at your face again.
“You were at the concert last night, meet and greet?” He muses.
“Yeah, One Direction is my favorite band. My friend bought our vip tickets for my birthday. Best night ever.” You say quietly, scared that he might think that you’re some obsessed fan.
“Oh, well I’m glad you enjoyed the show….so why didn’t you freak out today or- or expose where I was?”
“You’re a human being, just like me. You get nervous, frustrated, and sad just like me. You get panic attacks just like. Who am I to treat you differently?” Your words did so much for Harry. “Now don’t get me wrong, you’re my favorite in the band, but I don’t idolize you nor do I wish to be in your position cause I know it must be hard.”
“It is. Hard, I mean, really really hard. I love my job but I’m tired.” The silence you two shared burned a connection between you two. “This may be weird but could I have your number? I like talking to you and I wanna hear more of this book.”
Placing your hand made bookmark in the book, you closed in and gently placed it on Harry’s lap. “Have it. I have one at home and if you still want to talk about it- I’ll give you my number.”
Harry stills as the book sits in his lap. “I want to talk to you about the book.”
After exchanging numbers, Harry was urged by you to go. Walking side by side to the door, you were separated by his security.
“Harry, don’t let this keep hurting you. Find the joy and grasp on to it.”
You turned out to be his joy. Calls every night after shows and different books being read together, you both gravitated towards each other. Everyday was a new day to grow closer together. He invited you to more concerts, paying for every ticket because he just needed to be with you.
The show was going beautifully. Harry looked amazing in stage in all white and most fans were captivated by your outfit too. It worried you to see Harry so exhausted on stage but you knew he would stick it through like he always does. Proud was an understatement in your eyes. Harry made you more than proud.
You stood in the back of the watermelon pit at the end of the aisle where his stage stopped a few feet away. Jeff stood beside you like he normally did but he was acting suspicious. You two never stood on the side of Harry’s exit but this is where Jeff said you’d get the best view tonight.
Harry sang his final ‘we’ll be alright’ before doing his stage stroll and bows, but instead of finishing in the middle of the stage- he went down stage to the place he normally exits to at the end of the night. You watched in confusion, along with the crowd, as he walked down the steps to you. The crowd erupted in screams as the lights focused on where you were standing.
“What are you doing?” You asked with large eyes of shock. You felt your heart stop in your chest. The crowd getting louder by the moment. Harry walked closer to you, one hand digging into his pocket while his eyes focused on your face. You couldn’t place what was happening but you’re eyes welled with even more tears nonetheless. Jeff was to the side with a huge smile and his phone out to capture the moment.
“Y/N, my love, my light, the best thing that has happened to me,” he didn’t have his mic on so the crowd couldn’t hear him but you could hear him perfectly. As if you two were the only ones in the large arena, you could only see Harry. “From the moment I met you in the bookstore, I knew you were meant to be in my life. Somehow you took me from my darkest place and guided me to my lightest.
I know our lives have been hard but we’ve always found a way to be alright. I want that for the rest of my life. I want you to be by my side for the rest of my life, so will you please, my love, marry me?”
You gave him no time to answer as you yanked him up by his arm. You wept as you exclaimed loud yeses, yeses that could be heard by a few fans who screamed in excitement igniting the rest of the crowd to scream. Harry picked you up in his arms, throwing one arm out to wave at the crowd before bounding backstage.
“Oh my god Harry!” You exclaimed as he set you down. He only had a few minutes to talk so you kept it quick. You pulled his face down to your kissing his lips. This kiss pulled you both deeper into each other.
He pulled away making you whine. “I gotta go back but I promise you’ll get it all tonight. I can’t believe you said yes. I love you so much.”
Harry’s energy multiplied by 100 going back on stage. He even went as far as to explain what watermelon sugar was about. Remembering when the song was made, it made your legs clench together- a pulse overwhelming your lower regions.
Looking down at your hand, you could feel yourself tear up again at the ring he bought you. It fit perfectly in your hand, you remember him measuring your hand that night even though he thought you were asleep. The thought of your future made your heart swell. A future with new music, a wedding, a nice house, and babies made your heart swell. This was something you couldn’t wait for.
Harry found his joy in you but he never knew about the joy he was to your dark life.

masterlist | narnia playlist | read on ao3
Being in your last year of school before University is a storm; the whirlwind of applications and tests, the rain of sadness when it comes to leaving your friends, and the thundering excitement of your heart. Y/N’s mind was constantly a hurricane of teenage emotion.
While she may be the hurricane, her best friend, Edmund Pevensie, was the eye of the storm. No matter what Edmund was faced with, his mind seemed to always be clear and his actions were well thought out. Not only that, but he got early acceptance to his dream college and a weighty scholarship to aid his studies. Early acceptance meant very little stress on his mind and more time to enjoy his final year to it’s fullest.
“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” Edmund asked, shoving a forkful of salad into his mouth. His long legs stretched under the lunch table and crossed at the ankles lazily.
“Nothing, I’m just trying to read the text on this Tik Tok, it overlaps with the caption,” Y/N twiddled her thumb over the screen, trying to make out the message. Edmund laughs carelessly and snatches the phone out of his friend’s hand. He presses the power button with his thumb before places the iPhone facedown on the table.
“Tik Tok is going to melt your brain, you know. Then there won’t be anything going on in there.” Y/N rolls her eyes and takes a bite from her sandwich.
“Don’t look at me with that judge mental look in your eye, Pevensie! Maybe you should get addicted to the app like the rest of us!”
“I would but I’d like to keep my brain un-melted.” Edmund took another bite of his salad and a big gulp of his water. “I might need it for next year.”
Y/N huffed playfully and rolled her eyes. “Ah, right, my bad. I forgot you’re some sort of super genius. Silly me!” Edmund leaned his elbows on the table and shot an amused look at Y/N. “A genius who has eaten a salad for lunch every day since he was 12.”
“Hey! They’re good, thank you very much!”
“Live a little, Ed. Eat some ice cream for a change! Download Tik Tok! Run around town naked! I don’t know!” Y/N threw her hands into the air
Edmund choked on his lettuce, “I am NOT running around town naked!”
“You’re missing the point!”
“I don’t think there is a point, Y/N.”
“Come on, people would eat you up! You have a cute face and girls love cute faces!” Edmund’s cheeks reddened considerably and he reached for his water again.
“I don’t want them to eat me up, Y/N.” His voice came out as a squeak.
“Why not? I’d personally love to watch your videos. I’d be your number one fan,”
“You already are my number one fan,” Edmund smiled shyly towards Y/N. “Anyway, how’s the applications going?”
Y/N groaned and piled up her trash. “Ugh, don’t even remind me. I have no idea what I’m supposed to write.”
“I could come by yours after school to help if you want? Maybe that could help ease the storm inside your mind a little.” Edmund took Y/N’s trash and placed it with his own. A large smile graced her face and she nodded enthusiastically.
“You always know exactly what to do to help, Ed. Thank you.”
Edmund beamed as the bell rang.

You received a message
It was Y/N’s study hall period, so she was trying to get a jump start on her college essays. Y/N glanced at her phone before opening her notifications. One of her friends had sent her a video on Tik Tok.
this reminds me of you and edmund.
The video was of a pair of teens, probably a year or so younger than Y/N. The girl in the video was trying to teach the boy a dance while the song Electric Love was playing in the background. When the chorus starts, the girl cupped the boy’s cheek and pulled him in for a kiss. Y/N scrunched her eyebrows as she read over the caption: decided to try the kissing my best friend trend. now were dating #fyp
Y/N watched the video for a second time.
why is this me and edmund?
Y/N watched the video for a third time.
you know why, Y/N.
By this point, Y/N had watched the video so many times she practically had it memorized; she envied the girl in the video. How did she have so much courage to kiss her best friend? How would Edmund react if she did that?
Y/N’s thumbed hovered over the sound icon; she needed to see more of these videos. As she clicked the sound, Y/N realized there were hundreds of videos of girls kissing their boy best friends. Y/N chewed the inside of her cheek and scrolled, the hurricane in her head growing more intense.
Horror stories of Edmund rejecting her or laughing in her face played through her mind. But, still, Y/N couldn’t stop scrolling until the final bell rang.
~
“My brain is fried, Ed. Can we take a break?” Y/N looked up from her laptop and groaned. They had been working on her applications for nearly two hours and her eyes were beginning to sting from the harsh screen light.
“Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. We’ve made a lot of progress,” Edmund smiled and sat next to Y/N on her bed. She glanced at his side profile and admired the curve of his jaw. It was so sharp and defined, Y/N couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to trail kisses up and down it. “What? Is there something on my face?”
Y/N’s eyes widened ever so slightly. “No, I was just wondering what my chances of you saying yes to making a Tik Tok with me were.”
“Slim to zero,” He responded, deadpanned.
“Oh, so there’s a slim chance?” Y/N could feel her heart thumping in her chest. The thunder in her mind storm was so loud, she could have sworn Edmund could hear it.
“Will it make you stop bugging me about that stupid app?”
“Yes!”
Edmund sighed, “Fine, just one. What do I have to do?”
Y/N stood from her bed and gestured to the open floor space. “Just stand here. I’m, uh, gonna teach you a dance.” Y/N took a deep breath as she set up her phone, clicked the sound, and pressed play.
Electric Love started playing through the speakers as Y/N began to dance lamely. Edmund, oblivious, started to copy her movements. Y/N’s heart was going a mile a minute and her legs shook under the harsh vibrations of the thunder. She still had a few seconds to chicken out if she wanted.
Y/N turned towards Edmund and he had the cutest focused expression on his face. His eyebrows were scrunched in thought and his lips were pierced as he tried his best to mimic Y/N’s movements. She took a step closer to him, which he copied, and scanned his facial features. His pink lips were plump and slightly parted, his cheeks held a slight blush and his skin was smooth and perfect.
Y/N took a final deep breath and pressed her lips to his.
The music faded out of existence and the world grew blurry; the only sensation she could feel was Edmund’s chapped lips pressed against hers. The kiss was soft and contained, like a gentle rain shower, until his hands found her waist and everything accelerated. Lighting bolts of electricity flowed through their veins, making a single shiver travel down their spines.
Y/N’s senses were flooded with nothing but Edmund; the familiar taste of coffee on his lips, the smell of mint, the soft material of his shirt, and way his hair ticked her forehead. No one but her and the boy she loved existed at that moment.
Edmund pulled away and looked down at her with his chocolate brown eyes. Y/N had never experienced that look in his eyes, and something about it made her want to experience it over and over.
“It’s about time,” Edmund mutters, his thumb stroking the skin of Y/N’s waist. He dipped his head down again, catching her lips in another electric kiss.

Can i please have a headcanons for Keigo and Shinsou with a female s/o that really likes manga and anime but keeps it a secret from others because they talk shit and make fun of her? and like one day they accidently find out and she's kinda embarressed about it but they convince her that everything is fine and they think ist cute how happy they are when they talk about something she loves? Uwu :9 (sorry for my bad english)
secret anime and manga fan s/o headcannons  [ft. keigo takami, shinsou hitoshi]
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Y/N has been hiding the fact that she likes anime and manga from her lovely boyfriend for a while now, fearing he’d find it weird. now, she has no choice but to address the fact that he knows.
WORD COUNT: 1.6k
WARNINGS: threats
A/N: your english is great bb! uwu owo this was relatable askdakjhds if anyone tells you there is something wrong with watching anime or reading manga, let me tell you that they are WRONG. i will fight them for you<3
Tumblr media
KEIGO TAKAMI | PRO HERO HAWKS
Tumblr media
you used to talk about animes you liked because at the end of the day they are tv shows thats it, same with mangas, they are like books but cooler lol
but people found that “weird” for some reason, because anime is a “cartoon” and thats so gross omg haha these “cartoons” make me sob um watch a silent voice and cry with me kids
anyways
you’re watching anime in the comfort of your home, just vibing. no one is coming over today, you have time to yourself to enjoy your lil show that nobody should be judging you for
well, you thought no one was coming over
keigo has a tendency to just like, show up at your house sometimes when hes bored or in the midst of an uneventful patrol. though he rarely is seen in public, especially on the streets, he does fly-bys constantly
anyways, he was bored, or just relieved of duty for whatever reason, like lunch. he is having chicken nuggets, he is a cannibal, be ashamed H A W K S, smh
anyways, he just shows up at your house, like he lowkey breaks in through the balcony of your apartment, but its fine because you leave it open for him, but normally he texts you to let you know he’s coming but today was the exception because he’s adorable and wanted to surprise!!! you!!! with!!! food!!!
so he comes in, and he sees you are on your couch, just watching your lil anime, and you are SO INTO IT MAN like you are lowkey yelling at the TV whenever a character does something, and when that one character you hate comes on you’re like throwing hands with nothing
keigo is internally screaming because why are you so CUTE
he kinda forgets for a second that you don’t know he’s there, he has no idea what’s going on in this show, and he’s still holding chicken nuggets and fries
this is why he just kinda screams at a character who does something stupid, that totally could’ve been avoided, effectively startling you
now you are both screaming for separate reasons as you turn around to look at him, and now you are panicking because oh no, he KNOWS
his wings are fluttering and he feels bad for scaring you as he comes up to wrap his arms around your shoulders, “sorry baby! but that guy is so dumb.”
you are MORTIFIED and now you’re like, “oh my god, you must think im so weird-”
keigo is confused, why would he think that? he genuinely doesn’t realize that people make fun of you for watching anime and he’s so confused by it when you inform him that a lot of people tend to find it weird
“what?”
“people think its weird so i just-” hahahhasdha keigo lowkey wants to take time out of his day in his professional agency to find out who told you it was weird and made you think you had to hide this from him because he wants to know everything about you! you are the love of his life! you shouldn’t feel the need to hide things!
now he feels like maybe he did something to make you think you had to hide your love for anime even though it is literally adorable to watch you
“baby, it’s not weird. i actually think its cute how angry you get at the characters. and i AGREE like how could he just do that-”
“wait you don’t care...?” you are BLUSHING because he thinks you are CUTE not that you didn’t know this already since he was dating you but like
omg
“of course not, also would you mind restarting this anime, im kind of invested- oh and i brought chicken nuggets”
you lowkey wanna cry he’s so cute
he can tell you don’t believe him so he sets the food down on a coffee table and takes your face in his hands and is all like, “baby. i promise you its fine. and adorable. now let’s restart this show so i can watch with you.”
he winks at you and now you’re like, “whatever no i am NOT restarting.”
then he gets all pouty but its fine he doesn’t need to understand the plot to watch with you and enjoy every moment, he also likes when you explain it really excitedly with all these hand movements, and he especially enjoys when you get mad at characters
he finds it hot
hates when you have a crush on a character he gets so jealous and is not afraid to show it kjahsdahsdsh mans will start hating the character just because you keep talking about how hot they are
“they’re just so BEAUTIFUL.”
keigo, self consciously touching his winds, “im beautiful too...”
he’s so cute
throws popcorn at the screen whenever that character comes on
Tumblr media
SHINSOU HITOSHI
Tumblr media
hahjsdgjasgdj
THIS BOY is so pretty
anyways you probably fell asleep reading manga, or watching anime or something like that, so it’s like 1AM and you were BINGING because that stuff is great and nobody is there to bother you while you read and watch and stuff its you time
and for some reason people have been opposed to this in the past? so now whenever people come to your room your manga are all like lowkey hidden and you make sure there is no evidence of anima
you did NOT want shinsou finding out and thinking you were weird or anything like that, even though liking anime and manga is NOT weird!!!
if anyone tells you other lmk and i will have strong words with them
so you fell asleep and shinsou comes over because he realizes he forgot something in your room, and like the GENTLEMAN he is, he knocks, but you are asleep and do not hear him!
he’s like eh worst case scenario she’s cheating on me and i end up heartbroken, and this is something he genuinely considers sometimes and he would definitely blame himself if he got cheated on
so he sees you sleeping and you are like a mess because you did not intend to fall asleep, so you’re like in your desk chair, the manga is wide open on your desk or your computer is on and there’s the still going anime aksjdhkjdhas
your neck is in a weird funky way that’ll probably hurt in the morning and shinsou is like oh no i gotta move her i dont want her in pain, he is also wondering why you look so cute because what the hell this is unfair stop it
tbh he probably barely notices the manga, like he’ll just nonchalantly close it and place it on your bedside table because reading manga isn’t weird before coming back to you, in the chair, and like picking you up to put you in bed
now you AWAKEN AND YOU ARE A L E R T because it hits you pretty fast that shinsou is here, this is NOT a dream, he probably saw your manga/anime, and now hates you and is carrying you to your death
this is all false
in the midst of your panic, you knock the both of you down onto the ground, and he’s feels so bad for allowing the two of you to fall nkjasdjakn poor bb
“Y/N im so sorry-”
“hitoshi why are you apologizing?”
he just ignores that and he comes over to you on the floor but your gaze is on the closed computer on your desk or the manga that was placed on your bedside table that you DEFINITELY DID NOT PUT THERE
he saw, he definitely saw, and now you are babbling about how weird he must think you are because of those JERKS who made you think anime and manga are weird
“what are you talking about?”
“well, people always told me how weird it was and sometimes they would... say things”
shinsou quickly realizes you were bullied because you liked manga and anime and stuff like that and now he is contemplating murder <3 what a lovely boyfriend
as someone who has experience with bullying himself, he finds this especially stupid, its literally just a show and book, and kinda wants to ask you the names of the people who told you these things so he can hunt them d o w n
instead shinsou prioritizes you and your insecurities first, “babe... no. its just anime? there’s no problem with watching it. whoever told you that was just a jerk.” jk he uses more colorful vocabulary
shinsou is completely ready to spend the next hour convincing you that there is nothing to worry about because there really isn’t
“so you don’t think its weird?” his heart almost breaks when he hears your voice and he just nods and gives you a lil smile
“not at all... actually i was wondering what was so interesting that you stayed up until” he’s looking at the time, “2AM.”
now you’re blushing but you still launch into an explanation of the entire anime and honestly anime/manga plots are so extensive and cool and well done and that just makes them so fun and complicated to explain
shinsou is trying his hardest to understand but you are very cute as you explain using lots of vivid hand gestures and adorable faces and wow he’s been distracted
will try his hardest to understand so that you can talk with him about it more often, genuinely finds it great watching you tell him about something you enjoy so much and hates that you felt the need to keep it a secret
he wonders how many times you hid away the manga or anime when he came over and feels like an inconvenience
anyways he really really really likes you so now he just listens as you rant about how cute certain characters are and lowkey gets jealous
“WHY IS HE SO HOT.”
“he’s not... that hot.” grumbling and stuff as he plays with the edge of his sleeve and borderline glares at the screen.

୭̥⋆*。 painter!au minho
Tumblr media
pairing: classmate!minho + gn!reader genre: fluff word count: 0.9k warnings: brief food mentions, reader is insecure about their physical appearance
despite the common misconception that he’s disinterested in most people, minho’s specialty is portraiture
he has a knack for hyperrealism
the kind of paintings where you have to blink at them for a few minutes to decipher whether or not they’re actually photographs
the kind that are bursting with colours and emotions, perfectly capturing the model’s aura
there’s a rumour that he’s been commissioned a few times to paint bigshot celebrities even though he’s still an undergrad
so you thank your lucky stars that he’s sitting next to you in art theory for a whole  semester
wishfully thinking that every week could be an impromptu masterclass on the secrets of portraiture with lee minho himself
but wishful thinking is all it is
he sleeps through every single class, using his satchel as a pillow with one arm sprawled across the desk
so the only thing you learn about lee minho is that he talks in his sleep
especially when he’s hungry
at least it makes things a little more interesting
you’re halfway through a lecture on contemporary watercolours when you catch him mumbling to himself again
“chicken please……… extra fries…… no onions……”
you stifle a laugh but the sound reverberates
the teacher and the rest of the class don’t notice, but it’s enough to rouse minho from his food-filled happy place
he lets out a muffled groan before lifting his cheek into his palm and turning to face you with a blank stare
“sorry” you murmur, lips pressed tightly together to conceal a smile, trying to think serious thoughts
he shrugs before curling up in his usual sleeping position again
but he doesn’t close his eyes, instead quietly observing you as you bring your attention back to your notes, a smile still lingering on your lips
you quirk your brow as you sense him blinking up at you, wondering if there’s something on your face
“um…?”
“i like your smile” he comments nonchalantly
you open your mouth but nothing comes out
“your clothes compliment it… the warm tones” he gestures to your yellow hoodie
which you really feel like retreating into and never emerging from
“are you free after class?”
if you didn’t know any better, you might assume that he’s flirting with you
but you’ve been in an art school for long enough to know where these kinds of conversations go
“you need a model, don’t you?”
“yep”
“...okay. i’m in.”
what better way to learn minho’s techniques than seeing him in action?
he smiles back at you for the first time - a playful sort of grin
“cool”
then promptly goes back to sleep
as class ends minho throws his satchel lazily over his shoulder and gestures for you to follow him
he leads you up a few flights of stairs until you reach the restricted levels of the building
“isn’t this place off limits?”
“if it is they should make it harder to get to” he smirks, easily nudging open the door plastered with ‘authorised personnel only’ stickers
you step out onto the rooftop that overlooks the whole campus from an angle you’ve never seen, vast and open, making it the perfect horizon backdrop
it’s no wonder why he chose to have his own secret little studio set up out here
“nice, right?”
“yeah…” you peer out at the view, suddenly very conscious of your simple attire
“is it okay that im not dressed up?”
“you’re perfect as you are”
another nonchalant compliment that effortlessly knocks the wind out of your lungs
“i prefer my models to look more casual, like you’re an actual person”
“right…” you grimace, remembering that his lingering eyes are purely trying to capture an artistic vision
and definitely not checking you out
he pulls up a plastic chair for you to sit in as he drafts a rough outline of your portrait
you cross your legs in a rigid pose, feeling uneasy with the sudden realisation that he’s analysing every inch of your face
“just relax” you make eye contact and he winks playfully, effortlessly reading your thoughts like they’re written on your face, “you look beautiful, don’t worry”
you forcibly pause the rush of heat streaming through your cheeks, waiting for him to make some snarky, clarifying remark about how his paintings could make anyone look beautiful
but he just blinks at you, softly, sincerely
then his expression grows serious again as he positions himself behind the easel, eyes narrowed like daggers that shift between you and the canvas
leaving you exponentially more confused and uneasy, locked in place under his gaze
“you’re doing it again”
“doing what?”
minho imitates the expression you’re making, bottom lip protruding in a subtle pout with brows furrowed as you vacantly stare at the ground
you contort your lips into a sardonic grin
“ish shish better?” you mumble through gritted teeth
minho scoffs and gives the slightest hint of a smirk, “...it’s not bad”
“but i’d prefer to paint your real smile” he drops his paintbrush into an old mug and steps out from behind the canvas to give you his full attention, “what’re you thinking about?”
“i’m just a bit confused”
“you should just ask if there’s something bothering you”
you bite your lip, taking a deep breath before blurting out the question
“are you flirting with me, minho?”
he laughs
“oh god- i’m sorry that was such a stupid question just ignore-”
“i am”
you peek out from behind your hands where you’ve been hiding
“i am flirting with you” he tucks his thumbs into his jeans pockets, staring at the ground somewhat bashfully, “i’m sorry if it wasn’t clear”
“you don’t have to apologise” you clear your throat and move your hands into your lap to compose yourself, “i’m… glad”
minho’s absolutely beaming
so bright that it makes the burning sunset feel dim
“...i like your smile” you comment with a wink that makes him abruptly revert to a deadpan expression
“thanks... hey that’s my line!”

Chop It Like It’s Hot
Chapter 5: You Take a Pizza My Heart With You
I honestly can’t believe the response this story has had! I love you all so much; thanks for sticking with this! And a special thank you to @im-oknutzy-trash for all the ideas!
Chop It Like It’s Hot Masterlist
@lumosinlove
About thirty minutes after he ended the call with his mom, there was a knock on Leo’s apartment door.
“So,” Dorcas greeted him as soon as the door opened. “your mom called me. Said you were upset and asked me to check up on you.”
Leo reluctantly opened the door wider. “At least come in first.”
“Thanks.” She strolled in, dropping a bag on the counter and sitting down on the couch like she owned the place. “You want to start talking, or am I going to have to pry information out of you?”
“How about neither?” He said as he sat down next to her.
“Is this about The Batter Incident?”
Leo clenched his jaw. “I really don’t want to talk about it.”
“You need to talk about it.”
“Do I?”
“Leo, for once in your life, let someone take care of you for a change.”
He sighed, staring down at his hands and collecting his thoughts. Finally he said, “It’s stupid, you know? I don’t know why I’m feeling like this. Don’t worry about it; I’ll get over it eventually.”
“I swear, it’s like pulling teeth with you.” Dorcas grumbled. “Start talking. Now. You like them, right?”
“They’ve been in a relationship for three years now.” Leo blurted out, more frustrated in himself and his feelings than Dorcas’s pestering. “And they’re happy that way. I’d just throw a wrench in those gears and mess everything up, so what’s the point in trying?”
“You can’t be serious.” When he didn’t respond, Dorcas groaned. “Leo.”
“It’s true! I mean, even the logistics of it are doomed from the start. I’m based in New York, they’re in Gryffindor. We all travel constantly. Our schedules would never line up and we’d never see each other.”
“So you’ve thought about this.”
Leo laughed a little at that. “Dorcas, it’s all I’ve thought about for the last week and a half.”
“But that’s so dumb! You’re giving up before you’ve even given it a chance!” She argued. “And you know they like you back - you can’t possibly be that blind.”
He thought back to The Batter Incident. His cheeks had been hot enough that the batter probably could’ve baked there. And the looks on Logan’s and Finn’s faces...
“They might. But how long will that last once they really think about it? A week after this is all over they’ll realize it was just a silly crush and move on.”
“Leo-“
“Please don’t.” He cut her off in a small voice. “Don’t give me false hope. It’ll only hurt more in the end.”
She sighed and leaned her head on his shoulder. Even though she wasn’t a fan of physical affection, she was still willing to try and comfort Leo, and that meant a lot. “I still think you’re being ridiculous, but I guess I can see where you’re coming from.”
“Thank you.”
After a few seconds of sitting there in silence, Dorcas moved away. “Okay, that’s enough of that. I’ve got some cocktail recipes I’ve been meaning to try out if you want one.”
Leo laughed a little. “I think I’m going to take you up on that.”
***
“Recruits, the challenge for today is tasty tailgates!” Dorcas said with a wicked grin. “Your job is to create traditional game day dishes that people will want to cheer about, not throw a penalty flag. You can use outside resources to find recipes, and you can also use us for help. You have ninety minutes for this challenge and your time starts... now!”
Leo and Dorcas made their way from station to station, giving advice where they could. There were only six contestants left, so they could afford to take more time with each of them. Leo had helped with burgers and chili cheese fries by the time he’d reached Finn.
“What are we making today?” He asked, trying his hardest to not stare at those doe eyes for too long.
“Buffalo wings!” Finn said as he tossed the chicken wings in breading. “I’ve never used a frier before, so that’s worrying me a bit.”
“Well, you really want to make sure the oil is nice and hot before putting your wings in there. After that, just keep an eye on them until they’re nice and brown. It’s chicken though, so be sure to check the internal temperature.”
Finn gave Leo a cheeky salute before going back to his wings. Leo turned to move on to the next station to find Logan already looking at him.
“I’m making a pizza. It’s already in the oven.”
“Look at you, ahead of schedule!” Leo moved around the counter to turn the oven light on. “Did you use a dough recipe without yeast?”
“Yeah, I didn’t want a dough proofing for too long.”
“Smart. Let’s take a look at it.” Leo bent down to look into the oven to see not a pizza, but a rapidly-rising loaf of bread. The toppings had all slid off and were burning at the bottom of the oven.
Leo sat down on the floor next to the oven, squeezed his eyes shut, and laughed, ignorant of the longing looks he received from the two boys.
“Okay,” he said when he finally caught his breath, “I think I know what the problem is.” Leo laughed one last time and got to his feet. “Why don’t you start over on that dough?”
Logan glanced at the clock nervously. “That’s cutting it close, I’m not sure I’ll have enough time.”
“So bump up the oven temp and get that dough mixed as fast as you can.” Leo said as he went to check on his other recruit again. By the time he was done, Logan had dough made and was working on stretching it out on the counter.
“Okay. So the problem was that you didn’t do anything to prevent the dough from rising. An easy trick to fix that is to grab a fork,” Leo fished around in a drawer until he pulled one out.  “And make indents all over the surface of your dough. This gets rid of any air bubbles trapped in there and limits the rising a little.”
Logan rushed to put his sauce and toppings on the pizza before shoving it into the oven. “Hopefully it’ll be done in time.”
“I think this will be better than the loaf of bread, even if the dough isn’t cooked all the way through.”
“Yeah, but time constraints are stressful.”
“How is it any different than a hockey game?”
“I’m good at hockey.” Logan said with a grin, then motioned to his first pizza attempt. “This? Not so much.”
Leo laughed again. “It took practice to get good at hockey; the same goes for cooking. Look at how far you’ve come since the beginning of this show! You’ve–”
“Fuck!”
Leo turned around to see Finn cradling his hand to his chest and glaring at the frier. “You piece of shit.”
“Oil burn?” Leo asked. When Finn nodded, he turned on the tap and set it as cold as it would go. “Those are the worst. Come here. Run it under cold water for a few minutes.” As soon as Finn was close enough, Leo grabbed his wrist to inspect the burn. It was red and inflamed, but didn’t look too bad.
“I don’t think you need a medic.” Leo said with mock gravitas, looking up at Finn and meeting his soft gaze. He realized he was still holding Finn’s hand and let go quickly. “Don’t stay here too long – you don’t want your wings to burn.”
“Right.” Finn murmured as Leo walked away.
He made sure to give the other recruit about the same amount of assist time as the two boys and tried not to feel guilty about it.
***
Finn’s wings were a relative success. The breading was a little weird, but overall they tasted good. Logan’s pizza, though…
It was raw in the middle, just like he was worried about.
So now Leo had to pick between Logan’s raw pizza and another contestant’s just barely overcooked chicken.
It wasn’t really up for debate.
Logan was going home.
And Leo was going to have to tell him.
Fuck.
He sighed, rubbing at his temple and looking over at Dorcas. “Have you made up your mind?”
She nodded. “You?”
“Yeah.” He got up and headed for the door. “Let’s get this over with.”
***
The director called cut, and Leo’s heart ached as he watched Logan’s shoulders slump. He shouldn’t feel guilty. This was his job. But Logan and Finn both looked so sad.
“Sorry, Logan.” He said, not sure what else to say.
He shrugged. “I knew it was coming sooner rather than later. And I’m staying in the city until Finn gets done, so now I’ll have time to sightsee.”
Leo held out his hand to shake Logan’s. “I really enjoyed teaching you.”
That got a smile, much to Leo’s relief. “Thanks, chef.”
***
Post-Episode Interview
Finn: I mean, yeah, I’m bummed out. This has been so much fun to do with him and I hate to see him leave. But you know what that means? *yells* I’m the better chef! I knew it!
Interviewer: How does it feel to be in the semifinals?
Finn: *laughs* Surreal. I honestly never thought I’d make it this far. Here’s hoping I make it to the final! *knocks on the wood table*

Sneaking Around | Chapter Eight
Tumblr media
Ansel looked like she was about to have a nervous breakdown. “OHMYGODSAREYOUFUCKINGROWAN?!?!”
Aelin grabbed her phone from Ansel. The message read, Would you like to go out to dinner tomorrow?
Ignoring Ansel’s screetching, she replied, sure. im free anytime after six. That would give her almost a full day to convince Ansel to keep her mouth shut. Easier said than done. you might as well pick me up at my door. Ansel found out
Shit. was his response.
yeah i have to deal with that now
Have fun.
thanks for the support, jerk
Aelin then set down her phone and looked at Ansel with a calmness she didn’t even know she possessed. “Yes,” she said simply.
Ansel’s mouth dropped open even farther. “But. You. Hate. Him. And what about your secret lover boy?” When Aelin didn’t reply to this, Ansel yelled, “WHAT?!?! ARE YOU DATING ROWAN?!?! IS HE-”
Aelin just said, “Chill.”
“CHILL? HOW DO I CHILL RIGHT NOW?”
“You could start by stopping with the screaming.”
Ansel glowered at Aelin. “I think I know I know exactly how this is going to go. You’re going to do everything in your power to silence me. Begging, blackmailing, whatever it takes. So I have a proposal for you.” To Aelin’s questioning look she added, “I will not tell a soul about this if you tell me everything. I want the details.”
Aelin sighed. Of course she did. There really was no way to get out of this. “Sit.”
They sat on the couch. Ansel was still staring at Aelin like she had grown a third eye. “How the hell did this happen?”
Aelin explained the hookup, the morning after, and the ride home. The flirting at work, the date. Meeting at his place after hanging out with everybody. Going there after work yesterday, sending him to spy on Lys and the twins, and then this morning’s awkward “I like you.” It was surprisingly nice to get it all off her chest.
By the time she finished, Ansel appeared to have entered a state of shock. “But. Wait. Oh my gods. You. What. Oh my gods.”
Aelin suppressed her sigh this time. “Ansel... I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, truly, I am. But I really like him.”
Ansel sobered. “You like him,” she whispered. Having seemed to have finally wrapped her mind around it, she squealed. “Aw, you guys are so cute together! This is fate. I am involved now and you can do nothing to get rid of me.” Great. This would be fun.
-
Ansel insisted on preparing Aelin for her date the next day. As fussy as she was, she knew how to pick an outfit. Aelin was dressed in a deep green, velvety, flowing dress. It showed a fair amount in the front and back. A light layer of makeup was applied, including a cherry-red lipstick. Aelin’s hair was done up in a simple but pretty style, flowing around and then down her back.
It was six on the dot when there was a knock on door. Before Aelin could do anything, Ansel ran over and opened it. “Rowan, what a lovely surprise. Come in.”
“Ansel, butt out.” Aelin pitied the man on the end of Ansel’s prying.
Rowan smiled, then stepped inside. “Hello, ladies.” He was wearing a nice suit, not the same one as last time, though. Aelin was pleasantly surprised to find he had more than one. Rowan raised an eyebrow at Ansel.
Ansel smirked. “We made a deal. Silence for information.”
Rowan grinned. “Any interesting details?”
“Well, from what I hear, you’re rather good in bed.” Okay, maybe she had mentioned that to Ansel at one point.
Aelin’s face reddened. “Gods help me,” she muttered, glancing upwards.
Rowan’s grin widened. “Is that so?”
“We should be off,” declared Aelin, avoiding Ansel’s triumphant stare and Rowan’s self-satisfied gaze. She walked forward, grabbed Rowan’s arm, and dragged him towards the door.
“Now hold on a minute,” said Rowan. “Don’t you want to say goodbye to Ansel?” He had an innocent expression on his face. She was going to murder him. Both of them.
“You two are so cute together,” Ansel said. Rowan blushed too at this. Serves him right for not walking out the door when he had the chance. “I can’t believe this didn’t happen sooner. You’re so in love.” Ansel lived to stir the pot.
Rowan placed a hand on Aelin’s lower back and guided her to the door before she could pummel Ansel. He couldn’t stop her from flipping Ansel off, though.
Once the door was locked and they were a safe distance away, Aelin burst into laughter. Rowan gave her an incredulous look before chuckling. “This is what I have to live with, Ro.”
He smiled at his new nickname. The stood waiting for the elevator. “I’m glad to hear about my prowess in the bedroom, at least.”
Aelin stopped laughing. “Shut up.”
“I wonder what else you told Ansel about me.”
“Shut up,” she repeated, “before I kick your ass.”
The elevator opened and they stepped in. Rowan’s hand was still on her back. The doors closed and Rowan raked his gaze over her, lingering on the especially exposed areas. “You look beautiful, Aelin.”
She couldn’t prevent the color from rising to her cheeks, and after it had finally faded, too. “And you look very handsome.” Before either one of them could lose their self-control, the elevator opened with a ding.
In his car, Rowan asked, “Ansel won’t tell anyone, will she?”
“You know her. She talks, but she keeps her word.”
“Good. Not that... I mean...” Rowan stopped talking.
Aelin was very curious about what he was dancing around. Was this what he’d been avoiding yesterday? “Tell me,” she demanded.
“You’re going to the Christmas party.” Not a question.
“Yes...”
Rowan furrowed his brow. “Would you like to go to the party with me?”
Aelin blinked. “What, like together? As dates?”
Rowan sighed. Before he could make some comment about how she should just forgot it, Aelin said, “Rowan Whitethorn, are you proposing that we tell the others that we’re involved?”
“Maybe wait until the party, but yeah, I thought maybe we could.” He glanced over at her then quickly back at the road, avoiding her gaze.
Aelin smiled. “I’d like that.”
“Really?”
Aelin laughed. “What happened to your arrogance, Rowan? Of course we can tell them.”
Rowan chuckled. “You’re a bad influence on me.”
“I try. We don’t tell them until then, by the way. I need at least a few more weeks of peace.”
“Or as much peace as one being constantly pestered about their mysterious paramour can get,” Rowan added.
Aelin rolled her eyes. “Whatever you want to call it, yes, you’re right. Hopefully they’ll lose interest soon.”
“Doubtful. They’re like piranahs.”
“How true. We’re not much better, though,” Aelin responded.
They pulled up at a restaurant. It wasn’t the same one as last time, though it was still very nice. Rowan had good taste.
Upon entering, they began walking towards a table. Before they made it, something caught Aelin’s eye. Glancing over, she saw it wasn’t a something. It was Elide and Lorcan.
“Rowan!” Aelin whisper-yelled. Without waiting for a response, she grabbed his arm and dragged him back through the door, attracting a few odd looks.
Rowan was looking very confused. “What’s happening?”
Aelin didn’t say a thing until she got him out of sight of the windows. “Look at that table, the one near the kitchens.” She was still whispering, though totally unnecessarily.
Rowan finally caught sight of their two friends. “Oh. Well, that was unexpected. What are the chances?”
Aelin scowled. “I don’t give a shit what the chances are. Why didn’t Elide tell me she was going on a date?”
“You didn’t tell her about your date,” he pointed out.
“Oh, yeah. Well, let’s go to McDonald’s, then.”
Rowan choked, actually choked. “Tell me you did not just say that.”
“It’s good!”
“It’s disgusting, not to mention about as unhealthy as it gets.”
Aelin sighed. “Live a little, Whitethorn. Or just get a salad or something. Come on.” She pulled him to his car.
Muttering obscenities about the chances of an early death, Rowan reluctantly got in the car.
“Just so you know, I am not kissing you if you have chicken nuggets on your breath.”
Aelin gasped. “Not McDonald’s, then!”
Laughing, Rowan suggested a small restaurant a few blocks away. They drove in silence, Aelin mourning the lost opportunity of French fries.
They resumed their banter after ordering. Aelin got a large French-style sandwich. They moved to the topic of Elide and Lorcan, and how serious it was.
“If Elide didn’t tell me, it’s definitely a big deal,” was Aelin’s input.
“I agree, if only because they’re perfect together.”
Aelin mock-gasped. “Since when were you such a romantic?”
“Since your poisonous influence has spread, apparently. You’ve destroyed me.”
Aelin fluttered her eyelashes. “I’ve got quite the skills when it comes to men, don’t I?”
Rolling his eyes, Rowan said, “If you say so.” The nonchalant tone didn’t match his pick ears, though. Score.
The rest of dinner morphed into an insult match. Nice insults, though, if those were even a thing. Aelin loved fighting with Rowan.
Due to having work tomorrow, she didn’t drink too much wine. Why couldn’t it always be the weekend? When Aelin voiced her thoughts, Rowan rolled his eyes. They did that a lot in each other’s presence.
Dinner was soon over, and they walked back to his car. Once inside, Aelin leaned over the emergency brake and planted her lips on Rowan’s. She grabbed the lapels of his suit and pulled him closer.
Rowan pulled his face away long enough to chuckle and say, “Well isn’t someone-”
Before he could comment on her desperation, Aelin yanked him back to her lips. Her tongue parted his lips and she definitely felt him shudder. Rowan nipped at her lower lip, earning a reprimand that turned into a moan as his hand grasped one of her breasts through the fabric. His other hand ran through Aelin’s hair.
They didn’t separate until Aelin’s elbow hit the horn, scaring them both half to death. Once they recovered from the fright, they both burst out laughing. “Very suave, Aelin.”
“Shut up.” Aelin was so clumsy around Rowan. She thought back to when she woke up in his bed and ran into the door on the way out. Yes, quite suave indeed.
Rowan drove Aelin back to her apartment. “You know, next time I should drive. I get tired of having to look at you every ride,” Aelin declared, earning her yet another eye roll. She was probably setting a record.
He walked her to the elevator, in which they made out again. There really never was too much. It was quite an effort to detach when the doors opened. Aelin’s arms were looped around Rowan’s neck, and he laughed when she sighed disappointedly as he removed his hands from her body. “You’ll have plenty more chances to get your way with me,” he whispered in Aelin’s ear.
Aelin’s breathing was ragged, but she whispered right back, “Don’t doubt that.” Then she turned and walked towards her door, Rowan following.
Aelin unlocked the door, then gave Rowan a quick kiss. “Goodnight.” She opened the door and entered to find Ansel sitting on the couch. Surprise, surprise.
Aelin dropped down on the couch next to her, grabbing a handful of popcorn from the bowl on her lap. Ansel took in her lack of lipstick, ruffled dress, and messy hair, and smirked. “A successful night, I’m assuming?”
Aelin grinned. “I’d say so.” Their little agreement hadn’t stated she needed to tell Ansel about things that happened after the initial conversation, but it still felt good to gossip. She mentioned seeing Elide with Lorcan, to which Ansel squealed, then spilled the details of the hot make out session.
Ansel beamed. “I know I already said it, but you two are so cute together. Why did it take so long to happen?” Aelin did not respond to this.
That’s when Aelin realized she forgot to tell Ansel about the conversation in the car. “We’re going to the Christmas party. Together.”
After another round of shrieking, gods help them all, Ansel asked, “So are you just going to show up holding hands or something?”
Aelin blinked. “Um, I guess so. At least not everyone will be there.” A lot of their friends went to visit their families during Christmas. “We’ll only have to deal with a few annoying idiots, not the whole group.”
Snorting, Ansel said, “You have such a high opinion of our dear friends.”
“We’re all losers and we all know it. Let’s not deny it.” Ansel snorted at this too.
Aelin chatted for a few more minutes, then got ready for bed and went to her room. Once there, she layed down and pondered her situation.
She and Rowan were getting serious. They were going to tell people. Aelin couldn’t bring herself to feel any anxiety at all, just excitement. Now she just had to pray to the gods that no one passed out from shock - or that nothing else could go wrong first...

Sweet Night
Jae x Reader
I let out a groan while I extend both of my hands in the air. I stretched my hands side to side as i slowly pushed myself away from my table so i'll have enough space to stand. I finished the last call I have for today. I scan the whole room and saw that there are only few people left. I turned off my computer and fixed my things. After i fixed my things i stood up and silently bid goodbye to my colleague beside me while she's still in a call with a customer. She looked up to me and nodded and I left the room. On my way of leaving the building i bowed and greeted other people as if they actually give a f but i do it anyway.
It's only 5pm, my shift today was early compared to the other days. Since today is Friday I decided to drop to the market to buy groceries so i can finally eat something that a normal person usually eat, which is a home cook food. I've been eating process foods and sometimes i would just order food outside if i'm feeling lazy which happens everyday. I bought some groceries good for a week cause i don't know when will I have courage to go out and do grocery shopping again. I took a bus on my way to my home. My apartment is quite far from the main road so i had to walk 3 blocks to reached my apartment.
As i was walking a man from nowhere approached me and offer to help me carry my groceries. As if that I would let him he might ran and took my groceries away. I politely refused his offer and I continue to walk, after a minute i thought that he already left but i can feel him walking behind me, the nerve. I entered the building of my apartment knowing that he already stop following me, I quickly looked back to checked if he is still here and HE IS STILL HERE. I try not to think to much so i just think that he might also lived here too and wants extra money by offering strangers assistance or something, yeah right. I quickly hop to the lift together with other tenants, i was the last person to enter so i immediately clicked the close button but then an arm blocked the door and entered. It's still him, I refused to look at him but i can feel that he is staring, luckily we're half meters away from each other. We're getting fewer and fewer as the lift rises to each floors, i'm at 15th floor and this strange old man still with me inside the lift, should i be concern because we're at 12th floor already. I looked up when I heard the sound of the door opened, the other person left, my heart began to beat fast thinking how am i going to beat his ass without dropping my groceries. While i stared at the floor planning his execution I saw a pair of feet walked inside and stood beside me, i looked up to him trying to remember who this person is. Oh right he lived across my apartment. When the door opened i quickly walked out the lift with my short legs, i feel like i look like a penguin rushing to get home but whatever. I reached in front of my door and searched for my room key not minding anybody. I jolted when a man spoke.
"Hey! do you have company?" I turned around to see who is he talking to. I saw the guy across my apartment looking for his key to and suddenly looked up at me. I frowned and saw him slightly gazed over the strange guy walking towards me.
"Uh no." I stared at him as if im hinting that 'i have no f clue who's that old man'
"Hmm.. by the way do you have an iphone charger?"
"Y-yeah i'll give it to you later" I kept the conversation flow, so this old man would think that he's not the only male here.
"Excuse me Mr? I think you're in the wrong floor, this is the dead end." My co-tenant spoke. Both of our room are located at the very end of the hallway, so there's no way that the old man will insist that he lives here. The old man just pretend that he mistakenly went to the wrong floor and thanked him for telling him. What a b
I stood up in front of my door waiting for the old man to leave our floor. I looked back at my co-tenant and he is still standing there looking at the old man's shadow when he finally left.
"Yeah right what a creep." I spoke and his eyes shifted to me.
"Was he following you?"
"Seems like it. I saw him down the street." I said calmy as if i was not terrified earlier. His eyes widen to what i said.
"What??? He must be insane, are you alright?" He asked worriedly. By the way it is my first time seeing him this longer. The only time that i can see him is when he picked up his order from his door. He wears sweats, hoodie and his slides all the time. I wonder what his job is or do he even have a job cause i really never saw him leave his apartment and the cost of this apartment per month is no joke. Well who am i to judge.
"Yes im okay now thank you.."
"No worries." He looked down scratched the back of his nape.
"Thank you again." I smiled and entered my apartment not waiting for him to answer. My bladder is killing me already.
After i went to my bathroom, I started cooking. Im not good at cooking so i try not to make my life more complicated than it already is so i just fried some chicken and vegetables. I placed my food on top of the study table and opened my laptop. I like watching sitcoms and reality shows while i eat, though that's the only thing that i watch cause im not a fan of watching drama series. As i eat i remember that my co-tenant asked me earlier about the charger. I hurriedly finish eating my food so i can hand it to him.
I changed my outside clothes to a loose shirt and pajama, and put my hair into a bun. I walked out my apartment carrying the charger with me, i have an extra so i dont mind if he forgot to return it. Actually i hope he won't forget. I stood in front of his door and knocked trice. I got no answer so i knocked again loud enough for our neighbors to hear. Seconds later and he finally opened the door.
"Hi umm?" I spoke.
"Im Jae, sorry i didn't hear you, i was playing"
"It's okay by the way here's the charger."
"Hmm? Oh- yeah.. yeah.. thanks???" He looked at me waiting for me to answer. He's now wearing some specs that i think made him look attractive. Damn i got a cute neighbor. Okay i'll shut up now.
"It's y/n"
"Thanks y/n i'll return it to you right away."
"Okay sure.." I looked behind him. His room apartment looks just like mine. Well of course we lived in the same building but the difference is that he have lots of electronics like those two monitors with mic and cam on top of his table. I looked back to him, i think he noticed how i scanned his room. Gosh.
"S-sorry.. um you're a streamer?" I asked. His eyes widen as if i just discovered something about him.
"W-well.. i think. yeah i do stream." He again scratched the back of his nape. I just nodded. I didn't ask further questions cause i don't want him to feel uncomfortable.
"Woah cool!" I haven't watch streams before but i know what they do i just don't know how it works. I really do think that people who play games are cool cause i can't stand playing one.
"Yeah yeah.."
I jolted when i heard a voice behind me. It was the delivery guy carrying plastic bags with food.
"So um so see you around" I gave him a little smile and then entered my room.
I washed the dishes that i left earlier. I reached out my phone that was laying on my table, i typed "Jay streamer" nothing shows up so i just stared at my phone then i have come into my senses and quickly turned off my phone. Why do i even bother knowing him. Gosh what's wrong with me.

“Do these dark circles under my eyes say nothing to you about how i am doing?”
“If i didn’t know you better, id say you were trying to flirt by giving me books.”
“What are you talking about? Im hilarious!”
“Duct tape? Duct tape is not going to fix this!”
“What did you think? That you were going to fight him?”
“You’re blocking the view.” “I am the view.”
“Why are you on the floor?” “Tying my shoe.” “You’re wearing rain-boots.”
“Cant stop me from slaying!”
“Close your eyes and imagine it, all the dogs in the world.”
“Be careful, he’s so sweet you might get diabetes.”
“Would you reconsider if i was sober?”
“Stop running i’m wearing flip flops!”
“Why are you holding your boobs?”
“I wouldn’t call it stalking, more like far distance admiring.”
“You need to stop making her laugh! you’re ruining her makeup!”
“I’m sure i can get some kind of sexual gratification from just staring at him if i try hard enough.”
“I’m not sure if its a sexual thing or not.”
“I’m either in the mood for french fries or to rip someone’s head off. Hmmm. decisions, decisions.”
“If you’re not out of the shower in the next five minutes, i’m going to cut your fucking hair off to make your life quicker.”
“No, i will not dress up as a chicken.”
“I never told my extended family that we broke up, and now they want to know when you’re coming over for dinner again.”
“I need a date to my relatives wedding, and i’ve already asked literally everyone else i know, so i know you probably hate me, but please say yes. Otherwise they’ll try to set me up with someone, and they have awful taste.”
“One more sound and i swear to-”
“Sometimes when (name) texts me, i just pretend they didn’t so i don’t have to respond.”
“You gave our pigeon boyfriend the wrong beans!”
“If i’m like 50 and still single, ill marry you because tax benefits.”
“Please, never have children.”
“I know its like 11pm, but i’m on my way to your house with nacho fries.”
“Sometimes i wish i was gay so i wouldn’t have to deal with all these dumbass boys.
“You know, would’ve been nice if you told me your whole ass family was coming to this dinner! I look like a troll.”
“Im going to the party to pet the dog, no thanks drugs.”
“I hope in college i get some excuse to deck him. Maybe with a bottle or something, ill wing it and be like “oops, sorry shithead, my hand slipped.”
“What is this shit…i’m just trying to graduate.”
“Ooo, i sense attitude in your tone.”
“Guess who only got two hours of sleep? Me, lol, i’m gonna die.“
“I’m gonna strangle you.” “Is that a threat or a promise?”
“Superheroes aren’t allowed in my house, especially after they’ve destroyed my living room. go away.”
“oh you’re coming. even if i have to drag you through the snow in your pajamas.”
“i swear you’re gonna end up getting like botox in your tits or something.” “well i mean-” “whAT DO YOU MEAN?!”

~Warnings: yoongi being the worst boyfriend 😥😥😥, reader crying 😔😔😔, very cliche scenes, a breakup (not the major part though), yoongi crying 😢😢😢, yoongi cheating on reader (YOONGI I SWORE IF YOU HURT OUR OC LIKE THIS I WOULD PUNCH YOU TILL YOU BLEED but you’re saved for the sake of this story 😡😡😡), reader being too forgiving, swearing

~''~
In your relationship, Yoongi had always been the beast.
Missing dates, drinking at the bar and getting wasted almost every night, overall just fucking around… it was common sense that this was what boyfriends were supposed to do, right?
“Right.” was what you always thought- that boys were uncaring and stupid and undeserving of any love.
Well, any love except for yours.
Somehow, Yoongi always thought that you didn't deserve him, that you were the ugly, cold-hearted beast, that you were supposed to love him without anything in return.
And you always thought he was right; forgiving him after his sobbing apologies again and again, taking care of him after drunken nights again and again, convincing yourself that he really did love you again and again- until you decided this couldn’t go on.
No, you had a life outside of Yoongi.
You had dreams.
You had friends, a good social life, a whole group of boys who’d give you the universe if it meant you could be with them.
Why did you choose Yoongi though?
Why not any of those boys, some of whom were more attractive, more caring, treated you better?
~’’~
“Soulmates,” your best friend Nari huffed, turning her head to look at you. You were having a long-anticipated spa night together, cool cucumber slices resting on your tired eyes and some sort of coconut scented oatmeal mush plastered over your face. “You gotta stop believing in that shit, Y/N.”
You sighed.
“I’m trying, okay? It’s just that… I think… I think believing that one day someone will love you for eternity is better than living every day in heartache. At least it gives you hope, a reason to smile, I guess. Don’t you think so too?”
Nari paused for a minute, nodding subtly as she chowed on a cucumber slice. “Now that I think about it, I guess you’re right…”
You smiled, proud that you’d convinced her.
“...but nah, I still think you should face reality more than your imagination, you really have your head up in the clouds too much. All those fairytales- you know why they’re called fairytales and not realistic tales or something? Because they’re just to lull kids to sleep, all that perfect romance doesn’t exist,” her expression softened. “Hey, I really didn't mean to upset you... I was just- are you thinking about him again?”
You shut your eyes tightly, trying to stop the overflow of tears threatening to spill out. “I… no, I’m not. I just… I don’t…”
“Hey, Y/N, it’s alright…” She immediately scrambled off her massage chair, coming over to yours and pulling you into her arms. “He’s a stupid fucker who doesn’t deserve you. There’s so many good guys who’ll die to be with you, Y/N, I’m sure even Seventeen’s Mingyu would date you if you gave him a chance. Really!”
You sniffled, burying your face in your friend’s chest. “Not everyone’s obsessed with Seventeen like you, Nari.”
“Well,” She hmph’ed. “Are there any K-pop groups you like, then?”
“No.”
“How about TXT? Enhypen? Astro? You like none of them?”
“Enhypen’s okay, I guess…”
“There we go! Okay, okay, who’s your favorite member?”
“The one with the really nice smile.”
“All of them have nice smiles, Y/N. Do you know his name?”
“Uh… Sun-something. I think his last name is Kim.”
“Sunoo? You like Sunoo? OMG! OMG! MY BEST FRIEND LIKES SUNOO!” Nari jumps off the massage chair, making “whoop whoop” noises as she dances across the spa room.
A beautiful raven-haired spa attendant creaks open the door, stepping in. “Hello, ladies. I hope you’re enjoying your evening. I just heard… something, and was wondering if you’re doing okay.”
Nari freezes with her left foot still in the air, arms bent in an awkward position. She coughs, blushing as she scrambled to a standing position. “Yes, um, we’re doing fine. Thank you, er…” Her eyes flicker down to the attendant’s nametag, “Chohee ♥” scribbled in pretty cursive handwriting. “...Chohee.”
You flashed your signature wide smile, giving her a thumbs up. “Yep! Nari just gets excited easily, everything’s okay!”
She smiles back, pretty pink lips devoid of any lip gloss or lipstick. “Alright, then. Call me if you need anything!”
“Wait!” Nari calls after her as she proceeds to shut the door. “How are we supposed to call you if we don’t have your number?”
Chohee laughs awkwardly. “Oh… haha… I meant, like, physically call me, not, like, with a phone… haha… but… I mean… like...” She takes a page from the tiny notebook in her pocket, writing something on it. She hands it over to Nari. “Here’s my number, just don’t… spam me… or anything… um…” She clears her throat. “I hope we can… be… friends… or… something…”
Nari smiles shyly, accepting the paper. “Yeah… thanks, Chohee. Um, it was great meeting you…”
They giggle dumbly together before a shrill “CHOHEE! WE HAVE CUSTOMERS WAITING, YOU KNOW!” interrupts the glassy moment. Chohee immediately jumps back into professionalism, clearing her throat. “Sorry, uh… Nari…? Was that it?”
Nari nods.
“Yeah. Nari. Um, I have to go…”
“Oh, we shouldn’t be interrupting your work, should we?” She laughs. “Thanks for… uh… everything…”
“No problem.” They giggle again. “I really have to get going though… Bye.”
“Bye, Chohee.”
“CHOHEE SEO! IF YOU DON’T GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE NOW YOU’RE FIRED! DO YOU HEAR ME?”
Chohee’s eyes widen. “Oop, gotta go. Bye!” She runs off, Nari yelling one last “BYE!” as she waves.
When she finally closes the door and meets your eyes, she’s practically jumping up and down, heated cheeks glowing a fiery red.
You quirk an eyebrow. “Now do you believe in fairytale love?”
She coughs, picking at a scratchy stud on her arm. “I… no… I mean… maybe…”
You clap your hands once, grinning as you watch your friend’s face burn hotter. “Well, would you look at that! For once, I’m not the one that’s crazily in love and stupidly giddy!”
“Stop, Y/N!” She whines, playfully hitting your arm. “And plus, um, our face masks are hardening. It’s time to wash them off. I’m going to the bathroom. Um. Bye!”
And she’s taking off towards the bathroom, the sound of running water jolting you from your thoughts about… him.
Yoongi.
You bite your lip, wondering how pathetic you could possibly be. He doesn’t love you. He probably has a girlfriend and is about to get engaged. He probably doesn’t even remember you.
You look up at the blinding white ceiling, the soothing forest sounds playing from the speaker you forgot about now your only source of comfort.
Because the last two were “probably”’s, but the first one was a fact- Yoongi didn’t love you, and he never did.
~’’~
“For the last time, Nari, I’m 100% sure she likes you back. Just text her, tell her to meet up with you, confess at some cute caf-”
“No, Y/N! You don’t get it, I’m, like, really, really sure she likes the coffee shop server we met the other day, they were practically making out and- oh god, don’t even remind me about the lovey dovey googly eyes!” Nari stomps her foot childishly as you sigh for the upteenth time.
“Nari, just-” Your eyes widen, a brilliant yet sneaky-ish idea popping into your head. “Actually, it’s okay if you don’t want to just yet. I advise you to go take a shower though, wouldn’t want to be stinky, right?”
“But I’m not going anywhere special-”
“HAHAHAHAHA it doesn’t matter HAHAHAHA just go, go take a shower, go go go right now!”
“You’re acting weird…”
“HAHAHAHA am I now?”
“Um. Yeah. Alright. I’ll go shower. Bye.”
“BYE!”
“You’re being very enthusiastic.”
“Am I?”
“Yeah… bye though.”
It was an ordinary Saturday morning with Nari lounging at your place, complaining that Chohee wasn’t paying attention to her. So you’d tried to convince her to confess- which didn’t work, by the way.
Anyway, with Nari now in the shower and screaming along to “Chandelier” by Sia, you were ready to launch your plan into action.
Swiping her phone off the counter, you typed in the password (which she’d told you, as you told her yours as well) as fast as your glittery fake nailed thumbs could manage, plastic click-clacking against the oil-smudged screen. Nari had a habit of never washing her hands before texting, even after some good ol’ cheetos or fried chicken.
You click on the Textalk app and swipe down until you find Chohee’s contact (written “Chohee baby ♥❦✶⭑").
10:42 am
Nari Lee said: hey chohee :) u there? Chohee baby ♥❦✶⭑ said: nari Chohee baby ♥❦✶⭑ said: r u ok Nari Lee said: of course im ok :D Chohee baby ♥❦✶⭑ said: O-o hmm but u never use emoticons Nari Lee said: oh i just found out that i like them haha

10:44 am
Nari Lee said: um how about magnolia cafe? @12? Chohee baby ♥❦✶⭑ said: awesome! ill be there <3 Nari Lee said: sweet!
~’’~
“So…” You say, casually sliding into Nari’s room. She’s in a fluffy white bathrobe, brushing her hair and singing to herself. “What do you say for lunch at the Magnolia Cafe today?”
She shrugs. “Why not? I just showered, anyway.”
You smirk evilly. “Great! Make sure to put on some makeup and wear something nice.”
“Got it!”
~’’~
“Y/N!” Nari whisper-yells to you. “What in the name of my fuckin’ soggy underwear is Chohee doing here?!”
You hum, unbothered, as you skim over the menu. “How should I know? Anyway, I’m going to order some brunch. How about you?”
“Y/N! Ugh, shut the fuck up, I’m having a life threatening crisis right now! And why is she looking at me? And waving?”
You just smirk, shrugging. “Oops, gotta use the toilet. Bye!” You then dash off towards an empty table right behind theirs, wanting to laugh like a commando mad scientist. Your plan was done, and now it’s just time to see if it works.
Chohee walks over to Nari, and you see her visibly gulp. “Hey, Nari! You said there was something important you wanted to say to me?”
“Uh… I don’t… no? I don’t have anything to say?”
“Oh? Ah, I see. You’re making it suspenseful. Haha, I think I’ve had enough suspense. Spill!”
“Um… I like omelets?”
“What?”
“I… I like plants?”
“Excuse me?”
“Uh, I like you- WHAT AM I SAYING?!” Nari’s hand flies up to cover her mouth. Chohee furrows her brows.
“You… like me? Like, like like me? As more than a friend?”
“I-”
Chohee leans over the table and kisses her full on the lips, the sight so endearing you chuck out your phone and snap 18 photos. When they separate, Chohee’s grinning, Nari’s face a dark crimson and her bottom lip trembling. She touches it.
“You… kissed… me…”
“Mhm.”
“So does that mean-”
“I’d love to go out with you, Nari.”
And they’re giggling again.
~’’~
“HAVE A SAFE TRIP!!” Nari and Chohee call after you for the 26th time, waving like maniacs. You smile.
“I WILL!”
This was going to be the most exciting 2 weeks of your lifetime- you were going to Italy.
Italy.
~’’~
The small coffee shop is cute, light Italian jazz music playing in the background. The wooden walls are adorned with pictures of the owner’s family, the sweet smell of coffee beans drifting in the air.
To put it simply, it’s perfect.
Perfect for an exhausted coffee lover like you.
“A latte, please-” You pause when the server furrows his brow.
“You… eh… wan’ coffee wit’ milk, no? Not jus’ milk?”
“I mean, um…” You immediately pull up your phone and type into Google Translate. “... caffe latte.”
He nods. “Non c’e problema!” And a minute later, your latte is in your hands, the delicious smell wafting up your nostrils.
You sit down on a cushioned seat, marveling at the decorations and how cozy and warm it makes you feel. Taking a sip of your drink, you smile.
The moment is peaceful and happy, the chatter of the other customers fading in your ears as you just smile. No one to interrupt your daydreaming, no one to come over and call your name-
“Y/N?”
Your eyes shoot up, a familiar pair of cat-like ones staring at you. His hair is black as night, swept carelessly against his perfect forehead. His cute pink lips are jutted out in a tiny pout, pale moonlight skin practically shining. He’s ethereal, and hasn’t changed one bit.
“Y/N?” He says again, tilting his head slightly.
“O-oh. Um. Hey, Y-Yoongi, um, didn’t expect to see you here…” You laugh nervously, scratching the back of your head.
He laughs too, sitting down in the seat opposite yours with a black espresso in his hands. “Yeah, I found a job here. You?”
“I’m on vacation.”
“Cool.”
You stare at each other, having nothing to say. It’s like you want to stretch this moment out forever, stretch it until it erases all the horrible things he said and did to you.
He speaks again. “How long has it been?”
“What?”
He closes his eyes, clasping the mug between his hands tightly. “How-how long has it been- since I last saw you?”
You look down at your lap. “2 years.”
Silence.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.”
Your eyes start to wet, a lone tear slipping past your eyelids. There was no barrier now, more droplets following the first one’s lead and cascading down your cheek. “Stop.”
He doesn’t stop, instead choosing to nab at your heartstrings with more words. “I’m so sorry, I only realized how bad I fucked up when you left… I never stopped thinking about you, Y/N, I thought about you every fucking day-”
“Stop it now-”
“And I realized that I love you more than anything, that you were the treasure I held onto without even knowing I valued you that much. Why do you think I chose to come to Italy? Because I knew it was always your dream to visit here, and I hoped I would run into you somehow. I lived like that, in heartbreak and hope and desperate love and whatever the fuck else every single day, just praying you’d forgive me, praying that you’d come here and tell me that you still love me-”
“Yoongi.” You stand up, slamming the table. Your chest is heaving, breathing heavily as you try to take in everything that he said. “Stop. It. Stop saying sorry. “Sorry.” So what? Sorry won’t help anything, I don’t love you and we are over. In fact, there is not even a “we” anymore. You are you and I am me, completely separate, all ties cut, whatever you want to call it.”
“Y/N-” Yoongi’s voice is desperate, those forlorn eyes swimming with melancholy. You cut him off.
“Shut up, Yoongi!” His lip trembles, looking up at you. You feel a pang of guilt, but throw it away along with all your other feelings. Everyone at the coffee shop is looking at you two, the server mumbling something.
You don’t care.
No, you don’t care about anything.
Not about how much you missed him, how much your heart ached, how much you wanted to just fling yourself into his arms and kiss him- convinced he was a changed man.
Not about how he was pleading you right now, fat droplets rolling down his blanched cheeks as he whispered “I love you”’s over and over again.
Not about how the coffee shop server was hurriedly jogging towards you, incomprehensible Italian filling the air.
This was supposed to be a safe place.
The sweet scent and lulling conversations you fell in love with just moments ago, replaced with bitter words and the sound of tears.
You don't care.
You don't care.
You don't care.
Why are you crying, then? Why are those salty droplets cascading down your face? Why are you fighting so hard between your heart and your brain, trying to decide which to listen to?
Should you take him back, act like nothing has happened like your heart tells you to? Or should you give him the ignorance he deserves, leave the coffee shop and try to forget about this whole catastrophe like your brain says?
"Do you love him? Yes, you do. So choose me, your heart."
"Choose me, Y/N, your brain. I'm telling you to be rational."
You shut your heart out, brain taking over control. Yoongi deserves this. This of indifference, apatheticness, maybe even hatred.
“I don't love you, Yoongi.”
And you were out.
~''~
That night in your hotel room, you cry and cry and cry until the familiar “ding a ling ding a ling ding a ling ding dong” of a Textalk video call wakes you up from your thoughts.
You pick up, wiping all your tears until there is no trace of them left. “H-hey, Nari,” You hiccuped.
“Y/N, what is going on?” Nari’s eyebrows are furrowed as she tries to read your face. “It’s the first day of your dream vacation and you’re crying? Tell me what happened, please.”
“Yeah, you don’t look too good…” Chohee chimes in, sticking her head into the screen. “Don’t tell me you were robbed or something? Oh, no. No no no no. Please let it not be that.”
You smile halfheartedly, trying to change the subject. “Hey, Chohee. Staying the night?”
She nods, concern still painted over her face. “Mhm. But that’s not important, can you please just tell us what happened? It’s okay if it’s something small or stupid, we’re your friends and we’ll be here for you no matter what. We’re just… really concerned, and-”
“Yoongi.” Nari says suddenly, eyes wide.
“W-what? Y-Yoongi? What- what about him? I-I mean, I d-didn’t run into him, I-I’m just a-asking…” Your eyes are wider than cantaloupes, praying she wasn’t some psychic and had mystical powers or whatever.
She sits up from her previous lying-on-her-stomach position abruptly, looking at your stunned state. “Yoongi… do you remember he said he always wanted to visit Italy? He… was he there? Did you run into him?”
You are unable to speak, stuttering as your lip trembles. “Y-yes.”
Chohee and Nari both scream.
“THE WHAT?!”
“YOU RAN INTO YOONGI?!”
“Guys!” You yell, trying to somewhat calm them down (although you needed calming down yourself, too). “Stop! It wasn’t much, okay? Just- just some… talking, and then I left! That’s all!”
They look at each other, not sure whether to believe your explanation or not. Chohee opens her mouth a few times, as though pondering if she should speak or not- and no words come out.
“Really!” You exclaim, trying to convince them. You throw your hands up into the air for exaggeration, trying your hardest to look like you’re telling the truth. “We were like, um, best friends! Like nothing happened! And the coffee server didn’t come and shoo us out! He didn’t! And Yoongi didn’t cry or apologize or anything!”
Nari sighs. “Look, Y/N. I’m only saying I believe you because if I don’t you’ll bug me forever. But seriously, as your best friends, Chohee and I hereby promise to smack Yoongi in the face and shove skunk poop up his pretty nose. Right?” she looks at Chohee expectantly.
Chohee nods. “Yep. And don’t forget about the eating facial cream and drowning in turnip juice part. Y/N, I don’t care who it is, but if they dare to hurt you I will not hesitate to knock their teeth out.”
“If they even dare to insult you in any way, I’ll help Chohee knock their teeth out. I'll do most of the work, obviously, since... actually…” Nari pauses, biting her lip as she thinks. “Maybe, if it’s Mingyu that insults you, I’ll let him go…”
Chohee smacks her arm, rolling her eyes as Nari yelling a loud “what was that for?”. “For heaven’s sake, Nari! That totally ruined the moment.”
Nari shrugs, shooting Chohee a glare. “What, are we shooting a drama or something?”
You smile, looking down into your lap as your two friends bicker and give each other friendly smacks.
Maybe, just maybe, this world wasn’t unfair to you after all- you found happiness outside of Yoongi and the world of romance.
Maybe.
~''~
~''~
~''~
Okay. I did okay with the ending, right???? I did okay with the plot, right???? I didn't make Yoongi too horrible, right????
Right.
Okay.
Welp, anyway, remember to check my blog for updates on when part 2 is coming!

Hii! I feel like shit rn bc my boyfriend just broke up with me. I was wondering if you could write a bakugo x fem reader where class 1A is having a sleepover and the reader randomly gets a phone call. when she answers it it’s her boyfriend and he breaks up with her. so the whole night is basically just trying to cheer her up after that. and bakugo tells her that her ex was a dick and that she could do better/deserves better. just some baku fluff (Maybe her and baku start to date?) I totally understand if you can’t write this 🖤
Ofc, I’ll write a fic for you baby! I hope this makes you feel better and don't forget that there will always be people who will support you and love you no matter what! Just know that you deserve better <33333
Pairing: Bakugou x Reader
Warnings: none
Y/b/n: your bf’s name (but you can say jerk if you want to)
Tumblr media
As every Friday night, class 1-A was having a slumber party in the common room. Everyone was gathered to eat junk food, tell stupid horror stories and have a pillow fight, even Bakugou was hyped for the pillow fight.  Bakugou, who managed to turn an innocent pillow fight into a real battle every time because of his contestant and ambitious character, was planning to do the same today. Everyone was sitting in the common room, it was crowded bc of some snacks, blankets, pillows and other unnecessary stuff.  Momo was trying to braid your hair, but you were so excited, you wanted to have a pillow fight and team up with Bakugou, he was very fast and had a strategy that’ll both lead you to victory. “Enough of this boring stuff!” Bakugou roared and pointed towards his pillow, “Let’s fight!” his sadistic smirk was sending shivers down your spine but it was somehow funny. Just when you were about to join him, your phone rang and everyone looked at you. “Sorry guys!” You muted your phone and turned towards Momo and whispered. “It’s y/b/n.” Momo gave a curious look towards your phone and whispered back “It can be an important thing, you should call back.” You nodded and when you were about to call y/b/n, your phone started to buzz in your hand. It was him, you had a weird feeling in your stomach but you ignored it “I’ll be right back, don't you guys dare have a pillow fight without me!” Mina gave a thumbs up and Kaminari whined “It’s your boyfriend isnt it? Arrgh why am i so single?!” Jirou snorted and replied “Because you are stupid.” Sero snickered and Kaminari pouted.
-
You went out of the dorm and sat on the stairs. It was a little cold and it caused you to tremble. You took a deep breath and answered the call. “Hey babe, what’s up?” When you heard a sigh coming from the other side of the line, you knew something was wrong. “Y/n, I can't do this anymore.” Your breath hitched in your throat and you tried to reply with a shaky voice. “W-what do you mean?” He was trying to be patient with you but you weren't having any of that. “Tell me!” He sighed again and started to talk with a stern voice “I don't want a relationship anymore, it feels like I don't have any freedom.” His reason for the break up made you even angrier, you weren't a controlling or possesive person, your relationship with your boyfriend was a healthy and happy one. “Are you cheating on me y/b/n? I never did stuff to restrict your freedom, im not a super jelaous or possessive person either! So you should give me a better reason than this!” When you didn't get any response, tears started to gather in your eyes. “No Y/n, I'm not cheating on you. I just don't want to date someone, it doesn't make me feel happy.” You started to shout “So you are throwing me away because you got bored! This is your reason?!” When he was about to reply, you hung up on his face and sat there with tears in your eyes. You wanted to sob loudly but didn't want to alarm or worry your classmates, just when you were about to get up, the door of the dorm opened.
-
Bakugou wasn’t a patient person so when you left to answer the call from your bf, he got pissed. “Why are we waiting hah?” Kirishima sighed and patted his shoulder “What if it's an important call?” Bakugou growled and got up from the floor “I can't wait for someone’s lovey-dovey shit!” Then started to walk towards the exit, he opened the door and saw you sitting with your head between your hands. “Oi L/n! You are making us wait-” just when he was about to burst, he heard Y/n’s silent sobs and realized that she was shaking. Bakugou could look like a mean person but he actually cared about his friends, so he started to walk towards her and waited. “O-oh Bakugou! I’m sorry, I’ll be there in a minute.” When she didn't turn to face him, Bakugou tched and sat next to her. “Why r u cryin?” He mumbled and she looked at him with a confused expression “Huh?” He was embarrassed bc he wasn't the perfect person for comforting, so he started to look somewhere else and shouted “I said why are you crying, dumbass!” Then she sniffled and started to play with her fingers “My boyfriend just broke up with me, he told me that he wasn't happy but... I gave my all, just for him.” When Y/n started to cry again, Bakugou felt mad, how can someone dump her when she gave everything she could? He remembered the times that she was going out on dates with her bf, that guy looked happy, so why he was being such an ass? Bakugou took a deep breath “Because he is a good damn extra and a jerk.” Y/n stopped sniffling and looked at him, she was listening to him so he continued. “I thought you were stronger than this, is this really gonna make you cry?” Normally someone would get angry or offended at his words but he was trying to comfort her and Y/n understood Bakugou’s intention, so she smiled. “No, I'm not weak. You are right Bakuogu, thank you.” Then she got up and gave him a small smile “Wanna team up with me for the pillow fight?” Normally his competitive personality wouldn't let him but since she was having a hard time Bakugou smirked “You better give your all!” She nodded and ran inside.
-
Your back was pressed against Bakugou’s, both of you were taking this pillow fight seriously so the others did the same. “Aaaaah!” You let out a battle cry and hit Mina with all your might, she backed away with wide eyes “Geez Y/n, I'm not a villain!” Bakugou let out a sadistic laugh “You scared raccoon eyes?” Then Kirishima charged at him and they started to wrestle on the ground, after taking care of Mina, you realised that Kirishima managed to knock the pillow out of Bakugou’s hand and he was blocking Kirishima’s hits with his arms, you quickly grabbed the pillow and shouted “Bakugou, catch!” You threw the pillow towards him and he gave Kirishima a sadistic smirk. Kirishima’s eyes widened “Uh-oh.” Now Bakugou was in advantage and you started to laugh but felt someone’s presence behind you “Todoroki!” You immediately dodged his pillow and swung yours at his face “You need to do better than that L/n.” Then you started to run around with Todoroki while laughing like a little toddler. Bakugou’s eyes fell on you and he sighed, “You are relieved that she’s happy now, huh?” Kirishima’s words made him scowl and he started to hit his friend “What do you mean shitty hair?!” Kirishima pushed Bakugou and managed to escape while shouting teasing words like ‘aww you actually care’ or ‘you are a great friend bro!’ oooor ‘softie’
-
After the pillow fight, most of your friends gave up bc of Bakugo and you. Then everyone started to get into their sleeping bags or layed on their mattresses, your eyes fell on Bakugou, he was getting ready to sleep. He usually slept early so you knew he was tired but decided to give a shot. You slowly approached him “Hey Bakugou, do you have a minute?” His eyes found your form and he had a stoic expression on his face, he wasn't scowling or growling. He nodded and got up but his eyes met with Kaminari and Sero’s they were grinning like stupid hyenas. He gave them a horrifying look and that shut them up. Then the both of you walked towards the kitchen, and you gave him a thankful smile. “Thank you so much for tonight Bakugou. If you wouldn't have come outside, I don't know if I could managed to handle my emotions.” He huffed and tried to look anywhere but you, he never got a sincere ‘thanks’ the only people who knew about his soft side was Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero. You couldn't control your happiness and gave him a quick hug, that caught him off guard and he tensed “S-sorry!” Actually, the real reason I wanted to talk with you is that... Uh, I know you like spicy food so wanna go grab some spicy fried chicken tomorrow?” He wasn't experienced when it came to doing stuff with people other than his squad so he felt nervous but he wasn't going to hide like a little boy so he nodded “Sure, whatever...” He answered like he didn't care but actually he was panicking.
-
After your conversation with Bakugou, the two of you left the dorms to have some spicy food and after that you started to chat about regular stuff like training, his hobbies and you told him that you love the arcade and even he had a calm expression on his face, you noticed the glint in his eyes when he heard the word ‘Arcade’. He huffed and mumbled “Guess we need to go to the arcade, what a pain...” But you grinned and decided to tease him, bc you knew that he wanted to go too. “You aren't gonna back away right? Bc I'm so good at those games!” His eyes widened “HAAAAH?! Are you underestimating me?!” You started to laugh and tugged at his coat “Ofc not! Come on, let's go!” He tched but didn't yank his arm, he let you tug on it and his expression softened.
-
And that's how you started to date Katsuki Bakugou, you guys were regularly going to the arcade to let out some stress, having spicy food competitions and going out for morning runs together. He always looked so calm and unaffected but, the butterflies in his stomach told him otherwise. You were funny, thoughtful, calming to be with, beautiful (but he calls you ugly, what a tsundere). You balanced him and he was relieved to have you in his life... Like every morning, you were jumping trying to stretch your muscles while waiting for him to come and join you for the regular morning run. When the door of the dorm opened, your eyes sparkled with happiness. “Good morning Katsu!” The nickname still made him blush, but he successfully managed to hide the pink dust on his cheeks and huffed. “Morning, dumbass.” You chuckled and pecked his cheek, his cheeks got warmer and he covered his face “What are you doing dumbass, it was weird! What if someone sees us?!” You chuckled and poked his cheeks “Its called affection, Katsu!” He grabbed both of your wrists and looked into your eyes, you were giving him the most beautiful smile. He tched and turned his cheek towards you, you gave him a confused look and he growled “What are you waiting for dumbass? Do it again..” He mumbled and you giggled, after showering him with a lot of kisses he was running like a god damn horse. His blood was pumping, he felt like his heart was about to get out of his chest but it wasn't because of running, it was the kisses... Then you managed to keep up with him and quickly pecked his cheek “Catch me if you can Katsu!” You speeded up and giggled, now his face was as red as Kirishima’s hair. “Come here!” He shouted and you laughed, your break up with your ex wasn’t a bad thing after all... You found someone who cared for you and loved you, even if he was bad at showing it, Bakugou Katsuki was the best boyfriend ever...
A/n: I hope you liked it baby! When I saw ur ask I immediately sat down and started to write it so I’m really sorry if its a mess <3

I wish she would stop staring at me.
Lucille sat at the Lees’ usual table and apathetically picked through a heaping salad. (Friday was salad bar day, which I appreciated considerably more than the chicken finger obsession that marred Mondays at Calawah University.) Every once in a while, Rami nudged her and Lucille would spear a cherry tomato with her fork and bite it in half with perfectly even, white teeth. But her large blue-green eyes—they reminded me of webs of seaweed tumbling in the cold, frothing La Push waves—always found their way back to me, strangely focused, inquisitive, perhaps accusatory.
Ben probably told them how much he hates me for whatever nebulous reason and now they all hate me too and I’m going to spend the next two years being death-glared by five ridiculously attractive and somewhat incestuous foster kids.
Chemistry was a three times a week class. Ben hadn’t shown on Wednesday, and I was 99% sure he would skip again today. I spotted him around campus periodically, always from a distance: dropping quarters into a vending machine, clandestinely vaping behind dorm buildings (what self-respecting pre-med student VAPES?!!), browsing YouTube videos in the library next to a tower of unopened textbooks, biology and chem and physics and calculus. He wasn’t home, he wasn’t sick; there was no attempt made to construct any sort of pretext. He was patently avoiding me.
I stabbed moodily at the serrated disks of cucumber in my salad. Jessica was blathering away about the latest season of The Bachelor and ranking the contestants’ eyebrows from best to worst. “...Like seriously, has she never heard of microblading?!”
“For real,” Angela offered, not especially invested but forever a good sport.
Lucille’s eyes settled on me again as she sipped a cup of steaming tea, staring until her forehead crinkled with the effort, staring hard, almost leering.
“What’s her problem?” I muttered.
Jessica shot a glance towards the Lee table and slurped her Sprite. The great mystery surrounding her potential Mormon-ness persisted. “Who? Lucy?”
Only Lucille’s friends called her Lucy. Jessica, a shameless aspiring socialite, presumed she was everybody’s friend unless they explicitly informed her otherwise, which of course no one ever did.
“Yeah,” I answered glumly.
“Maybe it’s your dress.”
“My dress? What’s wrong with my dress?”
Jessica wrinkled her nose and surveyed me as if I were a bug, and not a cute bug like a roly-poly bug or The Very Hungry Caterpillar or whatever. Like a really hideous bug. Like one of those spider-cricket hybrid things that hopped straight out of a hell dimension and into the dark, drippy corners of your basement. “It’s, like, very 1960s. But not in a sexy Woodstock way. In a ‘I’m about to join a hippie murder cult’ way.”
“I got it at TJ Maxx. It was on sale.”
Jessica snorted. “Probably for a reason.”
“That’s it. I’m giving all the hippies in my new murder cult your address.”
She and Angela laughed. Mike and Eric, the missing pieces of our daily lunch puzzle, were preoccupied with a campus protest to convert fried fish day (Thursdays) into tacos day. I sympathized with their efforts, but didn’t feel that my one-week tenure as a Calawah University student gave me much right to go around overhauling the dining hall schedule.
“I doubt she’s actually offended by a dress,” Angela said, nibbling on French fries that shed grains of salt like snowflakes.
Jessica sighed dreamily. “But Lucy’s just so fashionable...and that accent...” She drifted off into some daydream which began—I could only assume—with Lucy’s invitation to go shopping together and concluded with marrying Ben on some lush tropical island in the South Pacific.
Lucille was definitely fashionable, especially today: short black dress with sheer sleeves that ran to her fragile wrists, black polka dot tights, black heeled oxfords, dangling ruby earrings like beads of blood. She would have blended in perfectly at Paris Fashion Week. Rami was wearing a cardigan and khakis, per usual; Joe was in dark fitted jeans and a roomy U Chicago hoodie despite the fact that Forks was at minimum a thirty-four hour drive from the Windy City. What did Angela say his major was? Finance? No, Mathematical Economics. So he’s probably aiming at Chicago for an MBA or Econ PhD someday. Angela had told me that Joe was wicked smart. He better be if he’s entertaining fantasies of grad school at the University of Chicago.
Scarlett had come straight from Fencing Club and was wearing bright pink yoga pants and a t-shirt with the sleeves cut out, sprinkling Hot Cheetos into her open mouth, her blonde hair secured in a tight French braid. You know those girls who are so irrationally, gluttonously, unfairly beautiful that it doesn’t seem possible the genetic lottery could spit out so many winning numbers at once, and you comfort yourself with the certainty that there must be some set of circumstances that would level the playing field—I bet she looks like anyone else without all that makeup, she just has a really good sense of style and knows how to maximize her assets, there are definitely some goofy oversized ears hiding beneath that hair and that’s why she always wears it down—and then one day you run into them wearing sweatpants and a ponytail in the tampon aisle at Walmart and they’re still so perfect it stings you, baffles you, makes you feel like there must have been some divergence in the evolutionary chain because there’s no freaking way you’re the same species? Yeah, Scarlett was one of those girls. Scarlett was the queen of those girls.
Ben was conspicuously absent from the table.
Scarlett’s pink leopard-print iPhone rang and she answered. “Hello?” She turned to Joe. “Dad says you left your phone at home. Do you need it?”
Joe was gnawing his way through his third slice of pepperoni pizza. “No, I’m good, thanks though.”
Scarlett relayed the message. “Dad says he’s going to bring it by just in case.”
“Oh my god, ScarJo, I’m fine! Tell him not to!”
“Dad says he doesn’t trust you and he’s going to be here in fifteen minutes. He’s also bringing the Game Theory homework you left by the hot tub.”
Joe groaned and rolled his lively dark eyes as Rami grinned at him; Lucille was still watching me and entirely oblivious.
“Isn’t it weird that Ben and Lucille have accents?” I asked Jessica. “That they’re from the U.K.? I didn’t think fostering kids was an international thing.”
“It’s not that weird. Dr. Lee is British too. Maybe there’s some kind of exchange system, I don’t know. But you know what I do know?”
“What?” Now my interest was piqued.
She smiled. “That the British accents are hot.”
“Ugh,” I exhaled involuntarily.
“Please get a hobby,” Angela begged Jessica. “Start a YouTube channel. Make care packages for orphans. Grow marijuana. Adopt a cat. I have a shift at the animal shelter this Sunday morning, you want to come with me?”
“Sorry, can’t. I have a temple thing.”
Temple on Sunday. The mystery is solved. She’s a Mormon for sure. I mentally resolved not to let her set me up with anyone unless I was still single on Valentine’s Day. Which, obviously, assuming I’m not dead in a ditch somewhere, I will be.
I gathered up my trash and slung my backpack over my shoulder. “Okay, well this has been a bizarre lunch to be completely honest, and now I have to go to Chemistry so I’ll see you later and hopefully we can brainstorm some more alternatives to Jessica’s current life trajectory on Monday. Because I am not looking forward to being a bridesmaid in these impending Lee nuptials.”
“Oh please!” Jessica lamented. “He doesn’t even know I exist. You, on the other hand...”
I scoffed. “Yeah, he wants to kill me. I truly have a gift.”
They waved as I left. I could feel Lucille’s eyes on me until I reached the door.
Sure enough, Ben wasn’t in Chemistry. I tried not to notice. I drew my atoms, wrote my equations, took my notes diligently and in my favorite sky blue ink. But I felt the emptiness in the chair next to me like a black hole, like an immense and dragging weight, like a snag in the fabric of all those interwoven strands of physics that orchestrate the universe like an immortal puppeteer. Why can’t I forget this guy? Why do I still feel like I’ve met him before?
Halfway through class, I hauled my emergency sweatshirt out of my backpack and pulled it on over my dress, floral and flowing and golden yellow like the sun, the sun that never shines here in Forks. I had liked it plenty under the florescent lights of the fitting room at TJ Maxx, and I had still liked it this morning; but Jessica’s words hummed around in my skull like wasps. The zipper of the sweatshirt was broken, but it accomplished the task of obscuring my dress well enough.
After Chemistry, I journeyed to the campus library to find a book I was supposed to read and present for a different class. I looked it up in the computer catalogue, spent an embarrassingly long time trying to figure out how the Dewey Decimal System works, eventually wound up finding the book on the highest floor of the library...and, to add a little extra peril to the mission, on the highest shelf. The book mocked me from its lofty, unattainable stronghold. The title was embossed in gold letters down the crimson spine. The Walruses And Me: A Transformative Experience. Idiotic title, I’m aware. It’s about some marine biologist who spent months alone in the Arctic studying the lifecycles of walruses. A noble pursuit, sure, but still a terrible title.
There wasn’t a chair or stepstool in sight. I tested my weight by stepping up onto the second-lowest shelf. The metal immediately squealed and shifted in protest. I retreated back down to the carpet, defeated by gravity. I scowled up at the book and sighed melodramatically. Ugh.
“Need something?”
I spun around to see Joe in his University of Chicago hoodie and pale flawless skin and intangible magnetism, that bewildering trademark Lee ethereality. I instinctively crossed my arms, clutching the sleeves of my sweatshirt, shrinking inwards like a startled armadillo in the Arizona desert.
“Are you, uh, anemic...?” he ventured.
“Oh no, I’m not cold. I’m just trying to hide my dress. My friend said it was too hippie-murder-cult 1960s.”
I figured he’d laugh, make a snide comment, maybe just blink in confusion. Instead, he glimpsed down at my dress—what could still be seen of it, anyway—and shook his head. “The neckline isn’t right for the 60s. And you seem like you’ve showered at least once in the past two weeks, so definitely not a hippie.”
I smiled, completely unexpectedly. “I didn’t realize Econ majors knew anything about leftist counterculture.”
“Disparaging it is our favorite pastime. Are you trying to get a book or are you just disrespecting university property for entertainment?”
I pointed. “The big red one.”
“The Walruses And Me...?”
“I know, it’s a horrible title. Not my personal preference. It’s for a class.”
“Bestiality 101?”
“Good guess. Marine Mammals.”
“Ahhh.” He glanced up and down the aisle, tapped his chin with agile fingers, pondered something I wasn’t privy to. “Turn around for a second.”
“What? Why?”
He waved his hand mysteriously in front of his grinning face. “It’s a magic trick. I’m going to make your problem disappear.”
“You can’t climb that,” I warned. “You’ll fall and break your neck. Or you’ll knock the whole shelf over and cause a tragic domino effect and the university will withhold your diploma until you pay them restitution.”
“I’m extremely athletic.”
“Are you sure?” I appraised him with exaggerated skepticism for comedic effect. “My dad refers to you only as the spindly annoying Lee.”
Oh my god, WHY did I say that?
Now he would definitely hate me. Now I’d have two mortal enemies on one campus. I mentally calculated how humiliating it would be to transfer to some Florida college, any Florida college, after only one week at Calawah. Hi mom, yeah I’m coming to live with you and Paul, a gang of hot pasty foster kids wants to slaughter me.
Instead, Joe threw back his head and cackled wildly. A librarian—mid-fifties, angry red hair from out of a box, fuzzy cat sweater—glared into the aisle and shushed him.
“Chief Swan...he actually...he calls me that? Really?!” Joe managed, wiping his leaking eyes. “That’s hilarious. I’m so glad my life is in his hands. Okay seriously, turn around.”
“Why would you help me?” I asked suspiciously.
“That’s just what I do. I’m a friendly guy.”
“This friendliness must not run in the family.”
Again, Joe’s cheerful demeanor didn’t falter. “You mean Ben? Forget about Ben, he hates everyone. Don’t take it personally.” Then he added: “Plus, as I’m sure you know, we’re not biologically related. No overlapping genetic material whatsoever. I didn’t get the male supermodel gene, he didn’t get the irresistibly charming gene, life’s not fair but the world keeps spinning.”
“It sure does,” I agreed softly. Unexpected wisdom from my new favorite Lee. I turned away from him. “Fine, I’m not looking, go ahead and dazzle me with your supernatural friendliness—”
“Done.”
“What?” I whirled around. Joe held The Walruses And Me in his hand. “How...did you...?!”
He passed me the book as I sputtered incoherently. “I told you. Magic trick.”
“I don’t....?!” I gawked up at the top shelf, at Joe, back to the top shelf. Sure enough, the space where The Walruses And Me once lived was now just a vacant slit in the row of dusty books. How could he have climbed up there that quickly? How could I not have heard anything? “The shelves didn’t even creak,” I murmured shakily.
“Yes, well, that’s due to my conveniently spindly physique.” Joe winked. “Any other problems I can help you solve at the moment, Baby Swan?”
“No. And don’t call me Baby Swan, or I’ll push this whole bookshelf over and tell the feisty librarian lady you did it.”
“That’s cold, ma’am.”
I liked that Joe didn’t make me feel like Ben did: unworthy, unloved, infuriating. Joe made me feel something else, something lighthearted, casual, buoyant; like the world didn’t have anything in it worth worrying about, regretting, agonizing over. Like unadulteratedly myself was all I ever needed to be.
I heard a muted buzz and Joe slid his iPhone out of his jeans pocket. Dr. Lee must have successfully delivered it. “Whoops, I forgot that Ordinary Differential Equations existed. Got to go. See ya.”
“Bye,” I replied. And then Joseph Lee was gone, very quickly, a little too quickly, the same way that Ben had vanished on that first afternoon after Chemistry.
Forks is weird. Calawah University is weird. And the Lee kids are super fucking weird.
Long Walks On The Beach
“Can I ask you a random question?”
“You just paid me $100 for an oil change that took fifteen minutes. You can ask me anything you want.” He grinned, flashing bright teeth and deep dimples.
It was Saturday afternoon. I had shoveled down a Chipotle veggie bowl as Archer changed the 1999 Accord’s oil in a small garage with a cracked concrete floor and the searing pungency of gasoline fumes thick in the air. He had apprenticed all through high school and rented his own shop after graduation. Archer now had a loyal clientele that encompassed virtually the entire Quileute reservation and a growing chunk of Forks...including Charlie and me, of course. Archer was the only child of Larry Foxchild—Charlie’s best friend since they worked together at Dairy Queen as teenagers—and the closest thing to a son my dad would ever have. I guess that made him like a brother to me, something that seemed intuitive now that I’d thought of it.
After the Accord was serviced we drove it down to La Push to walk on the beach, climb the salt-lashed rocks, toss pebbles into the roiling surf, reprise our childhood enthusiasm for poking dead washed-up marine creatures with shards of driftwood.
“Do you know anything about the Lees?” I asked Archer, investigating a deceased green shore crab.
His brow furrowed. He looked so serious like that, suddenly so much like Larry: the same tan skin, jet black hair, umbral eyes like oil wells, strong jaw overlaid with the stubbled shadow of a beard. We really aren’t kids anymore, are we? “The doctor and his kids?”
“Yeah. The foster kids. They’re really pale and strange and half of them are British.”
Archer chuckled. “I know who you mean. They’re hard to miss.”
“Are they...” Just eccentric rich people? Traumatized from abusive childhoods? Government experiments? CIA agents? Secret murderers? The image of Ben in that first Chemistry class came roaring back to me, including the adjective that had flashed red behind my eyes like an emergency exit sign: fierce. Finally, I decided: “Dangerous?”
Now Archer full-on laughed, gripping his belly, shaking his head. Drops of saltwater flew from his short hair. “Seriously?!” he exclaimed. “Come on, they’re freaks but they’re not, like...that kind of freaks.”
“Are you sure?” I was starting to feel better already. Of course they’re not actual demons, you fucking idiot. This is Washington, not The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror. Not goddamn American Horror Story.
“Yeah.” Archer skipped a grey pebble over the water, something I’d never been able to do. “I’ll be honest, I don’t know them all that well. They usually keep to themselves. But I’ve never heard anything bad about any of the kids. And everyone respects Dr. Lee and appreciates him for taking the pay cut to come to some bumblefuck town like Forks. He’s insanely highly credentialed, has degrees from Harvard or Yale or somewhere like that. Super impressive. We’re lucky to have him. I definitely sleep better at night knowing he’ll be the one to fix me up if I ever get a few fingers ripped off on the job.”
“Don’t even say that. Then who would I grossly overpay for oil changes?”
Archer smiled, then sobered as he peered out over the Pacific Ocean.
“What?” I asked, feeling a plummeting in my guts like primal fear.
“Well...okay, so there is one thing that’s always bothered me. You remember Grandpa Foxchild?”
“Yeah, of course.” He had been an impossibly ancient man with long grey braided hair, a low rumbly voice, gnarled arthritic hands, ceaseless wrinkles. I remembered Charlie calling me when he passed away last spring. Renee and I had picked out a flower arrangement to send to the funeral.
“So,” Archer said slowly, like he was still puzzling it out himself. “Grandpa used to say things like ‘That Dr. Lee has been around a long time.’ Which of course makes no sense, the Lees moved here like two years ago. And I’d tell Grandpa that, but he completely ignored me. He would just keep repeating it. ‘That Dr. Lee shouldn’t still be here.’ ‘That Dr. Lee should go on home to where he came from.’ ‘That Dr. Lee isn’t right.’ Creepy shit like that. My dad and I always assumed it was the dementia talking, but...I don’t know. It just bothered me. Because Grandpa...he wasn’t just being gossipy or suspicious. He was angry. And he was afraid. Grandpa was at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima and he would talk about that no problem, mention landmines or flesh melting off a soldier’s face like it was nothing. He was a tough guy. Immeasurably tough, I’ll never be half the man he was. But if you mentioned the Lees, Grandpa got scared. Why the hell would he be so scared of them?”
I didn’t have an answer for him, not a single word. I just stared at Archer, my eyes growing huge, my heart sprinting, blood pounding in my ears. He knew. Grandpa Foxchild knew there was something off about them, and now I know it too. I don’t know how I know, but I do.
Archer tittered nervously. “Anyway, that was genuinely disturbing. But like I said. It was probably just the dementia.”
“What if it wasn’t?”
“It had to be,” he insisted. “There’s no other logical explanation.”
“I guess,” I agreed, scooping up the green shore crab corpse with my bare hands. I hurled it out into the waves, imagined it sinking through murky water and suspended grains of sand, the body settling into prehistoric silt, the scavengers descending upon it, the inescapable wheel of birth and death and resurrection through those who unwittingly carry our atoms with them into the next generation, into the perpetual future.
That night my dreams were full of pale skin and scorching eyes, Ben and Joe and Rami, Lucille and Scarlett, crashing waves, cold water and bleached bones; and Grandpa Foxchild’s mistrustful refrain: That Dr. Lee has been around a long time.
Benjamin
I soared down the staircase and through the dining room. Gwil was working late at the hospital, Mercy outside tending the animals, everyone else presumably scattered throughout the house. I had to get out before anyone noticed me. I had to get out without Rami or Lucy knowing.
I yanked open the door to the back porch. Rami was waiting there.
“Good evening,” he greeted me in that slow, thoughtful drawl.
“Stay the fuck out of my head.”
“You know how it works, Benny Boy. I can’t ignore the loud thoughts. And you’ve been having some very loud thoughts lately.”
I stared down at my shoes, all black Adidas. Black is good. It doesn’t show stains. For example, purely hypothetically, splatters of human blood and organs. “I can make it quick. I can make it painless.”
Rami’s aura flared maroon; not enraged, no, not quite that, but certainly revolted. I was always finding new and horrifying ways to revolt them, whether I was trying to or not. “She has a family, Ben. A father. You know Chief Swan, you’ve seen him around town. He’s a good person. She’s a good person. You really want to do this? You really want to relapse like this?”
I didn’t reply. I didn’t have to. Hearing thoughts is a tricky thing, and not a gift that I would ever want; unspoken words are rarely a steam and usually a storm, disjointed and twisting, interrupting each other, bottomless layers of whispers and screams. But I was sure Rami could catch the important parts: that I didn’t know the difference between good and bad people, that I didn’t know what to think of people at all, that for me her blood was not a desire but a compulsion. I couldn’t stop envisioning it spilling over my tongue and teeth, down my throat, hot and pulsing erratically and fading. “Why can’t you hear her? Why can’t I see what she’s feeling?”
Rami shrugged, characteristically placid and restrained. It was maddening. “There are seven and a half billion people on this planet. So maybe every once in a while you get one that lives in our blind spots, there’s something chromosomal or psychological that puts them on a different frequency. I don’t know. How the hell should I know? All I know is that you definitely shouldn’t be seriously considering...well. What you’re considering.”
“Have you ever met someone whose thoughts you couldn’t hear before?”
“No,” Rami admitted; and was that a ghost of unease that crossed his face?
“Please, Rami. Let me go. Pretend you never saw me.” My words come out strained, hushed, like a spilled secret, like a confession. I’ve never wanted anyone’s blood like I want hers.
He heard that; I could see the dismay in his eyes. Now his aura is dark grey, almost black. Disappointment. Resignation. Mourning. “I told you what Lucy saw.”
“What she saw is impossible and you know it.”
Again, Rami shrugged. That blind, mindless faith. I wished I knew what it felt like. “She’s never wrong.”
“Have you told him?”
“Who, Joe?! Of course I haven’t told Joe. He...”
“He wouldn’t believe it either?” I snapped, like it was a victory.
“No,” Rami amended carefully. “No, he would believe anything Lucy saw.” Lucy had visions: flashes of the future, the past, the present. They were rare and unpredictable, often fragmented, snapshots rather than arcs. But they were always true. Or, rather, the other Lees claimed they were. The real Lees. “I don’t know what he would do about it,” Rami said finally. “So I’m waiting it out. And killing one of the primary participants is definitely not waiting it out.”
I seethed as I glared at him, hating him in that moment, hating myself only slightly more; and he heard that too. But then that wispy, fleeting haze around him was a pink like the last threads of sunlight sinking into the Western horizon. Forgiveness. Attachment. Love.
“Come with me, Ben,” Rami said gently, opening the door. “Come back inside. You can beat this. You’re better than this. You’re a good soul. You wouldn’t be with us if you weren’t.”
I tried to laugh. It came out like a snarl. “I haven’t had a soul in a long time.”
