Uhhh my ghosts thoughts

Spoilers under the cut but

TLDR: I enjoyed parts of it but was underwhelmed as a whole. It was a nice episode but fails to reach the heights of season 3

First I will say, I was happy while watching the episode I enjoyed lots of things.

Seeing the ghosts, Mike and Alison with the baby was wonderful. Really lovely. Mia is a lovely name and they really are great parents.

I would have liked more ghosts backseat parenting as a whole. Might have driven home the need for Alison to get away from them, rather than lady button needing to let Alison breathe. That or there being a bigger B-plot. Robin as the character who doesn't feel Christmassy feels eh, if there wasn't a bigger pay off than a speech about them moving on then maybe.

Kitty should have been the character. It would have been a lovely period of growth, and almost like a growing up type thing. Kitty grew up enough that she is ready to let Alison go.

They really missed the jokes in this episode. I maybe had two big laughs. Season 5 as a whole felt a lot less funny (other than En Francis.) like in the exorcism scene, when they realised they were going to be okay and it didn't work they should have made a joke.

I dont know if id ask for more ghosts in the episode. The show is Alison's and Mike's story. It's the Ghosts who are the supporting their story. They are the foundation and the last episode has to focus on them.

Finally the ending. Im fine with it. I think it's the right ending for the show. I don't know how else they could have ended it without making a massive swing or left it open ended (which would have been less complete)

Yes things are different and that's okay but they really should have constructed season 5 as a whole to support the ending. Yes it makes sense now the baby is here things are so different but my point is why then even make last resort? Why not make the episode end with the Julian reveal and speech still but don't introduce the idea of selling it in that episode. Maybe a line in A Christmas Gift about an offer to sell the house that Alison blows off saying "I don't think I could ever leave, I don't think the Ghosts would even let me" but as the episode builds we realise the ghosts have grown enough that they can face an afterlife without Alison always being a shout away. That like family it was time for her to leave the nest and grow as her own new family that still visits the old one.

It's my biggest issue with the episode. Also I really dislike the reaction fans are having to each other having differing opinions. Like don't directly sent hate to the creators (or even joke hate wtf) but also... Let people dislike it. Let people like it.

Anyway, a nice episode but as a final bow felt more of a whimper that turns into a yell rather than a standing ovation.

also jack specifically is such a “leaning into decisions/consequences that are terrible for their character” and keith i feel just is not? (the deal with lyke in ep 47 would be an outlier to me. it ruled though. love that for him.) so basically i dont know what would have to happen to get to a point of leap dying. things would have to be REALLY bad, right?

the other option i guess is leap filling the drive clock and retiring and ill feel kind of silly for thinking about this so much if that was the case, BUT i truly dont think that that will happen. like partizan as a season is so. the vibes are DIRE the stakes are HIGH

im sorry but i cannot stop thinking about isha's pastel memories that play during her sacrifice scene.

look at how full of colour this beautiful fuckin shot is:

it's been well established in episodes 4-6 how grim and dark the undercity has become under cait and ambessa's new rule. but look at how isha sees/remembers it - because of jinx.

jinx, who went through a severe childhood trauma that has carried over into her present self - she covers extremely destructive weapons and grenades in bright pinks and blues, neons, childlike doodles, graffiti. (joy and destruction, powder and jinx, a contrast so striking it becomes like a signature for her).

and then we see the world through isha's eyes. when we meet her in episode 2, she's running through sewers, from goons dressed in black; it's grimy and grim. and then all of her recent memories are done in these childlike pastel, almost crayon-y sketches. because what isha saw was jinx covering a dark and grim world in colours.

and so isha covered her world in colour, too.

because jinx made her world bright.

isha looked at jinx and saw the child in her. she saw powder and she saw jinx. she saw joy and destruction. and that's why jinx gave isha so much hope. isha knew the world was grim and dark - but then she watched jinx, and she learned that you can paint over all that grim darkness with neon blue spray paint.

that's why isha believed in hope. that's why in her final moments - in a scene that is lit dimly and dramatically - she sees nothing but a bright world coloured in pastels.

5 hours to go. Danny turned on the TV and, as quickly as he could, turned the volume down. That was embarrassing. But at least he doesn't need to worry about waking his parents. And getting yelled at. This early there's probably only commercials and 'news' segments that the actual reporters don't want to air, but have to because of capitalism. Or that's how it is back home. But here the screen is showing regular news. Two anchors are sitting at a desk and delivering information that really only takes one person to deliver. Wonder if there's a news ghost.

4.5 hours left. Danny gets a USB drive from the front pocket of his bag. He sits down in front of Bullocks laptop. No password. It opens right on a page full of tips on how to parent a teenager. It's better than some of the horrors he's found on his dad's password-less laptop. And the effort is appreciated. Danny takes another blow to his pride when it takes 3 tries to get the USB in. How does it always take 3 tries? The screen loads, and the camera turns on, showing Danny his own ghostly appearance. And this is him in his human form. The picture on the screen analyzes the state of his eyebags with an image of a ruler. He's just barely in the yellow zone. "Access granted," Tuckers voice announces from the computer. Sweet, he hasn't had access in over a week. A bunch of security camera feeds pop up on the screen. Nothing major is going wrong. Just some petty crime, but he can see the culprits' faces on video. The cops can handle this.

2.55 hours until he can go outside. The sun is already rising. And finally, there's action on the live feeds. A ghost! Danny frantically taps between the different feeds, trying to see where it goes. A *swish* of green darts past several cameras, followed by Jazz and Sam. Every now and then, they stop, hold a hand up to their ears, and then look to where the ghost has gone out of sight. Tucker must be telling them where to go. In a moments notice, Jazz manages to throw a ghost net over it and... it's Dani?

"Common, she has to come back as soon as I leave?"

Sam gets the net off her, and the team looks happy. And why shouldn't they be? They caught a ghost in under 15 minutes.

"We're never this quick." He remorses.

Are they better off without him? Does he just slow them down?

He can go outside. He could have gone outside over an hour ago. And yet, he remains. Lying facedown on the couch. Just like he's been for the last 3 and a half hours. It would have been longer, were it not for his phone ringing on the floor by one of the windows overlooking a creepy ally. His parents gave it back to him when they said goodbye at the airport. After they had taken it away for 3 whole weeks. He'd put it there to charge at some point in the night. Because, of course, it was empty. He walked over only to see it was Tucker calling. What, they wanna gloat about how much better they are without him? Or taunt him for getting sent away? Fat chance! He he denies the call and shoves the phone in his pocket. You know what? He is going to give out! And he's going to find some new friends who actually want him around!

Gotham air smells like pee and cigarettes. You'd think it would be fresher in a park full of trees, but no. The parks smell like old hot dog water, athletes' feet, and rotting meat (hopefully squirrels and rats). There also weren't a lot of people it the park. The occasional runner, but every time they saw him, they seemed to change direction to get away from him. Should he have showered before leaving the house? Whatever, he can just get back early and do it then. He pulls out his phone and sets an alarm for 11:00 to head back. As long as he stays within an hour of Uncle Harvey's place, he'll be fine. An hour by flight, that is.

"I'm going ghost." He whispers as he looks around for witnesses. A bright circular light surrounds his midsection. It splits in two, one going up and the other going down. His clothes change from a dirty hoodie and raggy jeans to a sleek black jumpsuit with white gloves, boots, and collar. His skin gets slightly paler, his eyes go from bright blue to toxic green, and his hair changes from midnight black to white as snow. It's a change, so stark, even his own family members and classmates tend not to recognize him. No matter how obvious he is. There's something about his ghost half that always wants to be used. It's like this constant energy that just builds up inside him. It wants to be free. He wants to be free.

Danny Flys straight up out of the park, ignorant to the little boy who managed to snap a picture from behind a tree.

It feels so good to finally fly again. The wind in his hair, the ghost lungs that don't need to breathe as much of that awful Gotham smog, it just makes him want to get higher and higher, and he does. He gets high enough to see the whole park. Wait, there are plenty of people in the park. They can't possibly all be sensitive to his ghostly presence.

While Danny stopped to ponder what could have scared them away from him, right behind him was an office building. And with how high up he was. He could easily be seen through the bord room windows. Of Wayne Enterprises. Where an astonished Bruce Wayne watches yet another strange child cross his path. Before swiftly flying off, he left a trail of green light behind him.

Bruce turns back towards his board, none of whom appear to have seen anything.

"This meeting is over." He says coldly and walks away. Murmurs and whispers erupt from the board. He may have cut a few too many meetings short recently.

It doesn't matter that much where he is. Flying is such a rush. Being up so high that no one can see him. Using his ectoplasm to draw rude pictures in the sky. Right about now, someone should be stepping in to ruin everything. Does Gotham just not have crime? Sure, it doesn't seem to have ghosts, but shurely, there must be human criminals. Right?

Oddly enough, Danny hasn't run into so much as a mugging during his nearly 2 hour joyride. However there he did manage to attract the attention of some guy in spandex. Who's been following him by rooftop.

A mischievous grin spred across his face. Turning invisible and then heading straight for the guy. Whose following who now? With Danny observing, the stalker keeps parkoring in the direction they had been headed before he eventually gave up. He reached a hand up to his ear and started talking.

"Nightwing to Batgirl. Target is out of sight."

'Batgirl must be like his Tucker. Which means there must be more in their group. No one's dumb enough to be a superhero alone.' Danny thought to himself, giving them far too much credit. But he could hardly finish that thought before.

*Brrrrriiinnng-Brrrrriiinnng, Brrrrriiinnng-Brrrrriiinnng*

His phone screamed. Alerting him to his previously agreed upon time. This ofcourse did not go unnoticed. Panicking Danny turned off his alarm and sped away through anything in his path. Until he got back to the park, where he could be sure no one would be watching. Transforming in a bush this time, just to be extra cautious.

Thinking he's real slick, Danny walks back to Harvey's apartment. Looking very non suspicious. According to his own estimates.

He made it back. Setting foot back into the apartment was different. This time, it looks messier and dusty. Was it like this before? He must have just been too tired to notice. The bathroom's pretty dirty, too. He wished he'd set the alarm earlier so he would have had time to clean it before showering. He just gives it a quick wipe down before hopping in. He'll do a more thorough job when he gets back.

And Harvey's a cop. What if this was targeted? Did they take him, too? Danny runs over to the fridge and looks frantically. Nothing, just take out menues. He rushes to the desk full of paperwork. Most of the drawers are just full of more paperwork and wrappers from various fast food places. Ugh, what a slob. Harvey could claim to be his dad's twin, and no one would question it. Wait, one drawer is locked. That must be it. Danny phases through it, and inside is a black book. But,

Summer of change.

Maddie Fenton was many things, and a patient mother of two was only one of them. Here lately, however, Maddie found her patience wearing thin with their youngest child. Now she loved Danny. He was her son, after all, but here lately, his actions and overall dismissive attitude towards everything from his grades to his responsibilities was starting to get to her.

She and Jack had tried everything they could think of to try and get Danny to behave and reconsiderhis actions. From taking away his phone, restricting time with his friends, to full-on grounding him. Nothing seemed to work. They were running out of options, but there was one last thing she wanted to try before, even considering bringing up the suggestion of military school to her husband.

"Hey Jack?" She called to her husband from the living room." Yeah, Madds?" He called back from his position over the kitchen table as he tried to fix the trigger on their latest invention. Hoping that this will be what they'll need to finally catch that ectoplasmic nuisance of a ghost boy.

"Your cousin, the one from Gotham; the one you introduced me to at our wedding. He's a cop, right?"

Detective Harvey Bullock was a man of little patience and even less tolerance to the kind of nonsense that the usual scum of Gotham City drummed up.

The only times he could ever really recall ever having more patience and tolerance than a saint was when he was growing up with his favorite cousin. So when said favorite cousin called him up out of the blue, asking for a favor, Bullock did little else, then say, "Sure thing," and " anything for you, little Jacky.'

That was how he got roped into looking after his cousins son for the summer. At first, he was hesitant. Asking Jack if he was sure he wanted to do that. After all, he didn't really have much experience with kids( and no, the Bats kids don't count).

But when Jack started telling him about all the trouble his kid was getting into. The arguments, the mysterious bruises, the skipping school, etc. The boy was on the start of a one-way street down to a bad place, and Bullock didn't like it. So he sucked it up and asked his cousin when he could send him.

Now Harvey knew he wasn't a good role model, that Gotham wasn't the safest place for any saine parent to raise a child, let alone send one here; but now that he was told what was going on with Danny. Bullock found himself determined to get the teen to turn over a new leaf. "Who knows," he thought to himself hopefully, "maybe Gotham was the perfect place for him to do it?"
