haunted by the look in my eyes that would’ve loved you for a lifetime
leave it all behind
& there is happiness
Loneliness had always been something that plagued him. That and a plethora of other negative emotions.
There wasn’t a day that went by where Peter Maximoff wasn’t made to feel like a loser. Admittedly, he’d never held himself to a high standard, he grew up thinking that he’d never fit in anywhere and eventually that thought mutated into a lifestyle as he began isolating himself from the world around him, either far too good or heartbreakingly not enough to be a part of that crowd.
He liked spending time with himself. Nobody else knew him the way he knew him, and still, he found nothing but an overwhelming hollow space where his deepest most important hopes, aspirations, dreams and self discoveries should have resided.
Peter had always put this feeling of exile down to the fact that he was a mutant, it was the most likely explanation, right?
It was only when he’d decided to join the X-Men that he finally came to the conclusion that maybe the rest of the world wasn’t the problem, nor was his mutation the problem, but that he himself was the problem. For even in a school full of people exactly like him he was still the same loser that he was in his mother’s basement.
And he was under no illusions that that was exactly what his teammates saw in him; nothing. No potential. Just a space holder to bring the numbers up.
Super speed was incredible. That’s how Peter acknowledged jobs well done, he praised his speed but never himself. He just saved Charles and Erik from a room full of armed guards? No that wasn’t him, that was simply his speed. He saved an entire mansion full of people from a potentially fatal explosion? Nothing special, Kurt probably could’ve done the same.
Forget all of the good deeds and saved lives because the bottom line of it all, to him at least, was that all he was good for was cheeky one liners and hopeless kleptomania.
His life took a turn for the worse when he found himself being mind controlled in an alternate universe. And even then, he was playing the part of someone that wasn’t him, the thought humbled him, reconnected him to his roots and reintroduced him to his life long philosophy that he’d never be anything more than a social pariah. Not even an alternate reality could accept him for who he was. There wasn’t a warm welcome and despite not knowing what was going on, the definition of “imposter” or the weirder, “recast”, still shot to kill.
He settled on the notion that he was an inter dimensional waste of space. At least in WestView he could be blissfully ignorant, let the real him be drowned mercilessly in favour of being an integral part of someone’s life- to feel important, even if it wasn’t real.
When WestView fell apart he was completely lost. In every sense of the word. In a new world with no way home and as it turned out, nobody was looking for him. Although he didn’t expect anyone to care, it still stung that nobody did. He always hoped that one day Erik would step up as a father figure for him, this; getting kidnapped and smuggled into a different dimension, seemed like the perfect moment for that epic father son moment, but it wouldn’t surprise Peter if his father has yet to notice his disappearance.
But then, seemingly out of nowhere, he came into contact with a beacon of hope. A guiding star that might possibly lead him to an existence consisting of something other than misery and self loathing.
It offered him a choice; return to being the self proclaimed loser he was known as or start fresh as someone new and mysterious, with first impressions yet to be made and conclusions about him yet to be drawn. Peter had known himself to be rash in the past, when it came to making decisions he had the tendency to act impulsively, never putting too much thought into how his decisions would affect his life in the long term. The choice before him now is no different, he knew exactly what he wanted going forward, however selfish the choice may have been, the second he realised it was an option his heart was set on it.
That previously mentioned beacon of hope arrived to him in the form of a girl, in the form of you. An ex-avenger and close friend of Wanda’s, you were hired by S.W.O.R.D to help them clean up the more ‘sensitive’ fallout that the fall of WestView brought about. Obviously, they were sticking you- the only other avenger with magik- on babysitting and rehabilitation rather than letting you go after your best friend who had gone completely off the rails. Having said that though, you didn’t want anyone else handling him.
You hadn’t watched WandaVision, nor were you even aware that any of it was going on until it had reached a boiling point and you got a call from Monica Rambeau, she’d begged you to come and wait on the edge of town while she went in and act as her eyes on the outside along with Jimmy Woo.
That’s where you stayed until the hex broke down.
As soon as the barrier came down the base you manned was overrun by an armada of terribly confused and distressed citizens, Monica and Wanda were not among them but in their places stumbled in Darcy and the man playing the role of Pietro.
Jimmy appointed himself to Darcy, who in all honesty seemed relatively unscathed by the situation while you made a beeline for the dirty blonde charading as your former, dead teammate.
Peter was, to put it simply, completely enthralled by you as soon as you’d strolled over to him and in the moment he’d put his almost magnetic attraction to you down to the fact that you were the first friendly face he’d seen upon breaking free of Agatha’s possession.
But one thing in particular struck him; you’d asked him his name. You hadn’t immediately assumed him to be some knock off Pietro, as everyone else had. You acknowledged that he had his own personal identity and despite how often he caught himself hating the person he was, he found that when it was torn away from him that he wanted it back. The simple question you posed gave him the opportunity to regain his identity.
“Peter. My name is Peter.” He answered you, almost unsure of himself and you found your interest in the man piqued even further.
He remembered with perfect clarity the way you’d offered him a grin, tilted your hand, extended your hand and said, “Well it’s nice to meet you, Peter. Come on, I’ll be your babysitter for the next while.” There was something about the way you’d laughed after saying the words and the slight, yet unmistakable, glint of mischief in your eyes that had him captivated from the get go.
With you came a whirlwind of new emotions. After only a few weeks of knowing you, Peter noticed he wasn’t as lonely as he had been back home. He didn’t hate himself half as much either, he wasn’t entirely free of self deprovative tendencies and maybe he never would be, but undoubtedly, he likes himself more in this world than he ever had in his last. He thanked you and your determination to make him “a functioning member of society” for that.
It didn’t feel belittling, the way you helped him. You hadn’t dragged him to your favourite mall every weekend just to taunt him about how he couldn’t stop himself from stealing something. Even the very first time, when he’d sped away from you and returned within a second adoring a pair of freshly stolen sunglasses. Your only reaction had been to laugh and casually place your hands on both sides of his face.
“At least remember to take the tag off next time, speedy.” You’d muttered, subtly pulling the tacky stickers off the arms of his shades. No, you weren’t dragging him sight seeing or forcing him to help you go clothes shopping because you thought he was a loser who needed reforming you were doing it because you were a true friend who wanted him to succeed.
The pair of you seemed like two peas in a pod. Which to be fair, you were. Peter Maximoff intrigued you in every sense of the word. He was new, quite literally other worldly, he was kind, he was funny, he was perfectly mischievous and completely wonderful.
What caught your eye the most was the way he held himself, as if he wasn’t entirely comfortable in his own skin. It became apparent to you that he lacked confidence with the phrases he usually tacked onto the ends of his sentences. When you’d invite him to hang out in the beginning his response would always be something along the lines of, “Sure. If you want me to.” But the excitable puppy dog eyes told you that he was dying for someone to want him to tag along some place.
There was a certain understanding between you. You were both more than accustomed with the harrowing feeling of being alone and even though you’d never exactly voiced those thoughts with each other, you couldn’t deny that his was a spirit kindred to your own and he felt it too.
Since the Avengers has disbanded, one of your best friends, Natasha, was dead and your other best friend, Wanda, was gone completely off the rails and the people chasing her wouldn’t let you anywhere near her or even attempt to help pull her out of her darkness. You were being kept as a wildcard in case they needed her taken down. Peter was no stranger to the feeling of being cast aside and so he quickly responded to your frustrations, and in doing so, forced himself out of his comfort zone to be there for you. To his complete shock though, you’d been so appreciative of his efforts.
You never failed to thank him for the little things he did for you, always complimenting his mutation when he’d use it and giving him the recognition he never received at home. The friendship he formed with you was so… two sided, again, something he wasn’t accustomed to before. It didn’t involve him giving everything he had to offer and receiving nothing in return, you matched his energy meticulously and never left him hanging.
In a series of firsts, he didn’t wonder whether or not you genuinely liked him, never feeling the need or want to question it as you’d left him with no reason to doubt.
As he walked around the mall with you now, his mind brought his attention back to the question you’d asked him rather casually a few nights ago. You were both lounging on your couch, watching some ridiculous reality show (a favourite of yours and Peter’s) when you’d turned your head to look at him, a thoughtful look on your face. “Do you think when S.W.O.R.D figures the technology out to crack into other realities, you’ll go back to yours?”
The question had taken him aback for a second, in all honesty, he hadn’t thought about going home, not when he was with you at least and considering he’d become your roommate about three weeks after he got out of WestView, the thought of returning to his old life had barely crossed his mind.
Being an ex-Avenger you were fairly well off, you lived alone in a two bedroom apartment in New York that you’d bought to be closer to Stark tower. Peter had nowhere to go and aside from having a spare room to offer you’d also been sort of lost in the current of the busy city with everyone you once loved in the area either dead, on the run or busy elsewhere.
While the question hadn’t crossed Peter’s mind, it had crossed yours on several occasions. He’d been staying with you for six months and the moment you realised that he was becoming one of the most important people in your life, the thought of him leaving you too weighed on your mind but at the end of the day you wanted him to feel happy. He deserved to feel happy and if going back to his reality brought him that happiness then you’d support him.
“Dunno,” he’d replied, turning to face you, chucking a handful of popcorn at you when you looked incredulous at his response, “To be honest I haven’t really thought about it, m’way too busy babysitting you anyway.” He joked, effortlessly dodging the few pieces of popcorn you attempted to throw at him.
For the last few nights, the question haunted him, but it wasn’t just the question that was bothering him. You were at the forefront of his mind as he replayed the past six months of his life which also happened to be the best six months of his life. WestView put him through hell but coming out the other side of it and meeting you felt like heaven.
He weighed up the pros and cons of returning to his native timeline. The cons: he’d have to leave you behind, he’d go back to being the loser who nobody took seriously, his talents would be downplayed and disregarded and he’d inevitably end up revisiting his lifestyle of solitude. Then there was the pros: he’d get to reunite with his pac man machine. He couldn’t manage to think up anything else.
If he stayed he’d have everything he ever wanted and needed. You’d be there and he knew you always would be, besides he couldn’t leave you knowing that you needed him. If he left who would wake you up when you had night terrors about the catastrophe that your reality was still recovering from? There would be nobody there to comfort you when you woke up from the nightmares, reliving the deaths of Natasha, Tony or Vision and the experience of being snapped out of existence? If he wasn’t there to make you laugh when you were about to cry then who would be? In his heart of hearts he knew you had a huge support system at your disposal, he’d met most of them. Even though he was well aware that Sam visited you as often as he could, that Bucky wrote you letters on a monthly basis and sometimes tagged along with Sam on his visits, that Stephen Strange appeared in your apartment whenever the urge struck him, that the literal god of thunder invited you out for beer whenever he was visiting Earth, that the little spider-kid, also named Peter, swung by your apartment at least once a week to tell you all about school and his good deeds. Despite knowing all of this and knowing all of these people loved you dearly, Peter wanted to be your main source of support, he didn’t want to be someone who came and went, who’d love you then leave you. He wanted to be with you through anything and everything and the feeling that you’d love him for a lifetime had him satisfied with the decision he was about to make.
If leaving his old life meant he could stay here, with you, and experience happiness for more than a fleeting moment then he’d simply; leave it all behind.
“I’ve been thinking about what you asked me the other night.” He spoke through a mouthful of curly fries. You were sitting in the food court of the mall when he decided to let you in on his desire to stay with you indefinitely.
You raised your eyebrow, “You? Putting thought into an answer? Peter, I think I’m starting to become a bad influence on you.” You told him teasingly, taking a long sip of your drink as he rolled his eyes humorously.
“You’re a terrible influence which is exactly why I’ve decided to stay here and put you on the straight and narrow.” The glee you felt at his statement was undeniable, your eyes lit up and your lips curled upwards.
“You’re staying? Really staying?” Your smile was contagious, Peter’s face now painted with a wide grin as he nodded his head.
In a moment of weakness he frantically added, “Y’know only if you want me to though. If you don’t that’s completely cool.” He rushed through the words, feeling more embarrassed when the fond look on your face never faded.
“Of course I want you to stay. You mean a lot to me.” You reassured him, a gentle smile on your lips as you reached across the metal table, intertwining your fingers with his.
Peter squeezed your hand gratefully, holding it in his grasp securely and allowing his smile to return to his face, “I know. You mean a lot to me too.” It was somewhat of an understatement, he was starting to understand that you didn’t just mean a lot, but that you meant everything.
His resolution lifted a huge weight off your shoulders that you wouldn’t be losing yet another best friend. You were glad he’d be with you when everything blew over with Wanda, the two of them definitely had the potential to develop a beautiful sibling relationship and they both deserved that. Of course, Peter would never replace Pietro and having known them both it was obvious just how different the two men were, the only thing they had in common being their powers and last name. Still, he and Wanda would still be able to work on it. He didn’t hate her after WestView and you knew Wanda well enough to know that she was kind hearted and she’d be more than willing to give him a chance. When she eventually comes back to her senses, that it.
As the months went on, life with you and Peter seemed to only get better. You never stopped laughing, your nightmares died down and Peter had taken on a whole new lease of life. Yourself and Peter were the perfect example of meeting the right person at the right time, you balanced each other out and accentuated the other’s good qualities.
Peter could now say with complete confidence that he was happy and what’s more is that he was finally sure that he was making someone happy.
Up until nearly eleven months of living together your relationship had been purely platonic, save for the constant flirting but flirtation pretty much ran in yours and Peter’s blood. Peter wasn’t going to lie to himself, he’d fallen for you the second you’d peeled the security tags off his stolen sunglasses.
You, on the other hand, had been fighting with yourself because yes, you love Peter but you couldn’t have told him when there was the possibility he’d eventually leave and now so much time has passed and you’ve got such a good thing going you didn’t have it in you to ruin it.
However, all of that changed when your original Maximoff best friend came knocking on your door.
Wanda was on the run. She’d caused an amazing amount of chaos but Stephen Strange and S.W.O.R.D were hot on her trail and now she needed a place to lay low with the twins. She figured there was no place more reliable to go than to the always open arms of her best friend, who conveniently had a divinity for earth magik and could muster up a protective barrier without raising suspicions. And that’s exactly where she found herself; outside your door.
You’d been chasing Peter around the apartment when you heard the knock on the door. Peter was on the opposite end of the kitchen to you, using the bar as a shield from you. “You better get that.”
“Oh you’d like that wouldn’t you?” You glared as you spoke, it was his own fault really. What sort of idiot jumpscares a witch while she’s mid-meditation? He’d frightened you so badly you accidentally blasted a ball of your signature green energy and ruined your favourite couch throw pillow. When you were ready to pounce on the scared speedster the knocks sounded again, more frantic this time.
With one last glare towards Peter you stomped towards the door. Your anger melted away completely when you saw her. Her hood was up and she looked completely exhausted, two small hooded little boys by her side.
“Wanda…” You breathed out, relief flooding your system at the sight of her alive. She didn’t get a chance to speak before your arms were pulling her against you tightly, hugging her as if your life depended on it. Wanda returned in your embrace, allowing herself to relax for the first time in nearly a year, she sniffled against your shoulder, holding back tears as she realised how much she’d truly missed you.
Billy and Tommy watched in confusion as their mother cried into your shoulder. They didn’t know who you were, all their mother had told them was that they were going somewhere safe.
It was the yell of one of the boys that caused you and Wanda to separate, “Uncle P!” With that you felt a familiar rush of air across your leg but instead of Peter appearing one of the kids was gone.
You shared a perplexed look with Wanda, although your confusion was for different reasons.
“Hey hell raisers!” Peter responded, catching the mini speedster who all but threw himself at him barely regaining his balance before the other child had flung himself into the hug.
“Wanda? Those two… are they...?” You started, at a loss for words Wanda cut you off quietly, her tone as disbelieving as yours.
“My children? Yes. Is that…?” You nodded your head numbly, anticipating the end of her question.
“Your fake brother? Yeah.” Quickly, you realised you and a wanted woman catching up with the door wide open wasn’t ideal and you ushered Wanda inside, shutting the door when she walked in.
“Hey.” Peter greeted her simply, as if he hadn’t been used as a meat puppet in her altered reality. It wasn’t in his nature to hold any grudges.
“Hi?” Wanda replied, her voice still twinged with confusion.
“Peter, will you keep an eye on the kids for a bit? Wanda and I have some catching up to do.” You asked him with a nervous laugh, just thankful that Wanda was too tired to argue with your suggestion.
Peter ruffled the boys’ hair and gave you a grin, “Only if you stop trying to kill me.”
You rolled your eyes as you began to lead Wanda into your bedroom, “You’re on probation, jerk.” You called over your shoulder.
Once you were securely in your bedroom, the door locked and sitting comfortably you fixed Wanda with an amused look, “I’d ask you what’s new but I’m not sure I even wanna know.”
Wanda gave you a sad smile while she shook her head, “No, you probably don’t. I will tell you tomorrow, I don’t want to get into it tonight. I’m so tired.” She admitted, her voice overcome with sadness.
“I’ll pump up the air mattress and you and the boys can sleep in here for however long you need. I’d offer you the spare room but that’s where Peter’s been staying and I don’t think empty food containers are the kind of decor you’d be into.” Wanda nodded, squeezing your hand gratefully.
“So his name is Peter?” She asked, curious about the man Agatha had used to trick her in WestView.
You nodded in confirmation, “Yeah. Peter Maximoff, actually.”
Wanda’s brows came to a furrow at that, “Maximoff? So he’s a relation?”
“Yes and no. Peter is from a different reality but he’s still a Maximoff and he’s got super speed. So, and this is just my theory, while you’re not directly related he could still be your brother- if you wanted him to.” You explained, as gently as you could, not trying to push her too far but to nudge the idea in her direction.
Wanda, to your surprise, didn't seem to hate the suggestion, “What is he like?”
A genuine smile made it onto your face then, as you shot into your description of your roommate, “He’s caring, funny, a little bit of a kleptomaniac but he’s working on it. He’s understanding and moronically selfless, moronic in the sense that he doesn’t even realise he’s being selfless. Huge pain in the ass too.” Wanda had a soft smile on her face by the time you’d finished.
“You like him.” Was all she said and you let out a laugh in disbelief, standing up and opening the door.
“Go grab a shower. I’ll have Peter blow up the air mattress while I go introduce myself to my god sons.”
“I thought you’d at least wait until I actually asked you.” Wanda laughed as you walked out of the room.
Things moved fairly quickly after that. As promised you introduced yourself to Billy and Tommy as their god mother, which they seemed more than thrilled about and you assumed that excitement had to do with whatever description of you Peter had given them. Wanda and the twins were all cleaned and fed and had all but collapsed into bed, foregoing the air mattress and huddling together in your double bed instead.
“Where are you sleeping, mother Teresa?” Peter teased as he noticed your eyes drooping where you stood.
“On the couch probably. Or the air mattress.” You mumbled, cutting yourself off with a yawn.
Peter, unimpressed with your options, scoffed, “No way. Come on, you can bunk with me.”
Much like Wanda, you were too tired to argue and you let Peter pull you to his, surprisingly clean, room by the hand.
You both crawled into the bed, lying close together despite the amount of empty space on the mattress.
“How are you feeling about all of this?” Your soft voice broke through the silence and Peter turned his head to look at you.
“About Wanda?” You nodded your head, watching him intently as he rolled onto his side, facing you more comfortably.
Peter shrugged lightly, “I’m feeling ok. Just glad the twins still see me as their cool uncle.” You let out a small laugh at his response.
“Wanda was asking about you. Seemed interested in getting to know the real you.” You informed him, your heartwarming as you watched a hopeful look fall across his face.
A lull settled over the room once again and Peter caught himself staring at you. His eyes drifted over every visible part of you, reminding him of most of the points on his pros list for staying in your universe; your eyes, your lashes, your nose, your lips, you.
“What’re you thinking about?” The sound of your tired voice pulled him out of his thoughts and ultimately pushed him to bite the bullet and tell you how he’s feeling. With you curled up beside him, in his bed, fighting sleep just to stay in his company for as long as you could; he knew there would be no better time.
“Just about how happy I am to be here with you.” He answered you honestly, the butterflies in both of your stomachs fluttering in sync at his words.
You trailed a hand under the duvet and onto the bedsheets between your bodies, feeling around until you found his hand and gently intertwined your fingers. “I’m happy you decided to stay.”
“What you’ve all gone through in this timeline sucks- don’t get me wrong-“ Peter started sincerely, scooting closer to you and dropping his head back down on the edge of your pillow, leaving the pair of you practically nose to nose as he went on.
“And I hate that Wanda had to go through so much… but I’m really glad that it led me to you.” Peter swore in that moment, right after the confession left his mouth, that he could die right now and be completely content knowing that you now knew how he felt.
His heart stopped, and he thought that maybe he was about to die, when you gave him the softest, sweetest smile he’d ever been on the receiving end of and whispered, “I feel the same.”
Time moved in slow motion as he felt you moving your intertwined hands towards your lips, your lips pressed gently against the back of Peter’s hand before you brought them to rest against your chest.
It was a fact to say that Peter Maximoff had never felt intimacy quite like this before. But, experiencing it now, with you, led him to wonder how he’d ever survived without it. He wasn’t sure whether it was natural to crave more, especially when the affection you were showing him was so gentle, but he didn’t care as he let the impulsive side of him take over.
Not sparing another word, Peter closed the small distance between your lips and his. His free hand cupped your jaw while yours wasted no time in getting tangled in his silver hair.
His lips moved softly and surprisingly slowly over yours and he savoured the feeling of your hand holding his while your other got lost in his hair, your body pressed up against him, the way your jaw moved against his palm as you reciprocated the movement of his lips and the taste of your lips, promising himself he’d never let the memory slip from his mind for as long as he lived.
With complete clarity, Peter could say he had felt true, genuine happiness and he had no doubt in his mind that there was absolutely nothing Charles, Hank, Scott or anyone else from his original timeline could say to make him leave this happiness behind. Because in the process of forgetting his old life, he couldn’t deny that he has undoubtedly found himself in the position of a man who had so much more to live for.

Part 1.1/ Part 1.2/ Part 2.1/ Part 2.2
Tumblr media
It was a relatively quiet evening after May left. Peter went down for a nap on his own and Tony took him and placed him in the crib along with the Iron Man plushie and puppy.
Deciding takeout would be a good idea after everyone tired themselves out playing with Peter, Tony ordered Chinese food to the Compound.
“So, how’s dad life treating you?” Natasha asked, before popping a piece of orange chicken in her mouth.
Tony shot her a glare, “I’m not-”
“Oh for the love of God!” Bucky slammed his flesh hand down on the table, “If I hear you say you’re not the kid’s dad one more time I’ll slap Steve,” he jerked his thumb to the man next to him.
“Um excuse me, don’t bring me into this!” Steve’s hands flew up.
Bucky ignored his boyfriend’s protest, “You literally walk, talk, and act like Pete’s dad twenty-four-seven. I’m pretty fucking sure the only person who doesn’t realize that is you.”
Steve quickly slapped Bucky upside the head at the same time Natasha kicked him under the table and Sam scream whispered, “Dude!”
Tony blinked a few times before his brain caught up with him.
“What did you just say?”
Bucky’s eyes got wide and they shot around the table.
“I no longer feel safe in this environment.” he said as he slumped in his seat.
“Oh now you’re intuition works.” Natasha hissed.
“Barnes,” Tony said, “What did you mean by that?”
It was silent for a few seconds before Bucky rolled his eyes and sat back up, “Well there’s no point in hiding it now!”
“It’s not your secret to tell, Buck.”
“I’ll get murdered either way. I’d rather get murdered by the spider.”
“You’re gonna make the kid cry.”
“He made us promise, Barnes.”
“Hey!” Tony yelled, getting everyone’s attention, “I’d like to know what secret my supposed spider child is keeping from me. So if you be so kind as to enlighten me,” he raised a brow.
Before anyone could stop him, Bucky blurted, “Petercallsyoudadwhenyouarentaroundto-.”
Tony choked on his spit at the same time Steve tackled Bucky to the ground..
“That’s a bold faced lie,” He said, but with such uncertainty that is came out painfully wavered.
His eyes flickered to Bruce, who just shrugged.
“FRIDAY?”
“Sergeant Barnes is telling the truth. I could not tell you because Peter convinced me not to.”
There were so many things swirling in Tony’s head right now.
How long had this been going on? Was it an accident at first? He really hasn’t fucked up with Peter? How had the kid manipulated Tony’s own AI to withhold information?
So he just avoided it altogether.
Turning to Barnes he said, “Can I at least say it one more time for the satisfaction of seeing Rogers get slapped?”
The look on Bucky’s face was pure evil.
***
That night, Tony was woken up by Peter screaming his lungs out.
Pepper had left on a business trip earlier in the evening to China, so he was left to his own devices.
Looking over the paper May had given him, she listed a few reasons as to why Peter may throw a tantrum.
Ear infection
Sick
Overly tired
Frustrated
Peter had an enhanced healing factor that made it damn near impossible for him to get sick, and he was sleeping. So all of those possibilities flew right out the window.
Tony had been bouncing the boy and cooing at him for the last ten minutes but nothing even caused Peter to let up on the screaming. And because he was screaming, he couldn’t communicate to Tony what was wrong.
“FRIDAY, can you scan him to see if there’s anything wrong that I’m missing?”
“I have already done so three times, boss. I cannot find anything physically wrong with him. Perhaps you should call Bruce up to look at him.”
“Right, right, okay. Can you have Bruce meet me in the med bay?”
“Will do.”
Tony grabbed puppy and the iron man plushie that the kid now called “kitty”, which the others made fun of Tony endlessly for.
“I don’t see him clutching to a stuffed version of any of you shit heads.”
When he got to the med bay, Bruce was already there in his pajamas with a white lab coat on.
The screaming child in Tony’s arms made him wince, “Mam, FRIDAY wasn’t messing around.”
“Does she ever?” Tony asked as he walked over to the bed.
“Yeah, if you ask her to.”
“One time. That was one time and you all basically grounded me.”
Just as Tony went to set Peter on the bed, the screaming got impossibly louder and Peter latched onto Tony with his spider powers.
“Well shit.”
“Just sit on the bed and put him on your lap. He should be fine there.”
After an extensive check, Bruce finally concluded that there really was nothing wrong with Peter. Luckily, by the time he was finished, Peter had calmed down to the point of hiccups and sniffles.
“Peter,” Bruce spoke quietly, “Can you tell us what’s wrong?”
Peter clutched the stuffed toys tighter and looked up at Tony, his chubby cheeks red and stained with tear tracks.
Tony ran a hand through the boy’s curls and carefully wiped a stray tear away, “It’s okay buddy. You can tell us.”
Peter looked between tony and Bruce a few more times before settling into Tony’s lap.
“Bird.”
Wait what?
“What do you mean, bud?”
“Mean bird. Big a-and gween eyes. Hurt.”
“Peter, there aren’t any birds in the building,” Bruce tried to explain, but Peter shook his head violently.
“Drop me in water! Th-then big house fell down n I not move and nobody help!” Peter was beginning to hyperventilate.
“He’s talking about Vulture. Toomes. I think. I’m not sure what he means about the house though.” Tony told Bruce.
“So a nightmare.” Bruce stated.
“I thought he only remembered us and his powers. No events.”
Bruce shrugged, “Maybe he has memories of things in his sleep. It’s Loki. And it’s magic. Honestly, we have no way to control or predict anything from here. We just gotta play it by ear.”
“Wonderful,” Tony groaned, “Hey Pete. The big mean bird is gone, he isn’t gonna hurt you. It was just a dream. I promise you’re safe.”
Peter only whimpered in response, but Tony took that as an okay to take him back up to the penthouse.
“Sorry for waking you, Brucie.”
“Never a problem for Peter.”
“I see where I stand.”
“Against the world’s cutest kid? Yeah, you do.”
Tony chuckled but headed back to the elevator.
When he finally got Peter to fall back to sleep, Tony snuck out to the living room of his penthouse.
“FRIDAY, I wanna know what Peter meant by what he said earlier. Look for any collapsed buildings in New York City in the timeframe from when he first told Happy about Toomes to the night Toomes was arrested.”
“I have found five collapsed buildings reported within those constrictions.”
“How many are still open cases or listed as suspicious or unsolved?”
“Two.”
“How did each one fall?”
“One building was an old abandoned apartment that burned to the ground. No arrest has been made in the case, but it appears to be arson. The other was an abandoned parking garage, collapsed from possible structural integrity. No arrest has been made, but it happened the night of the plane crash. The call to emergency operators came in about twenty minutes before your plane crashed.”
Tony physically felt his heart drop into his stomach.
“Were there any security cameras around that night?”
A shop across the street had a camera with the garage partially in its frame. I’m pulling it up now.”
A video feed came over the tv screen that had a partial shot of the street, including the parking garage.
A few seconds played before a red streak flew through the frame.
“Stop. Rewind. Play that frame by frame and enhance the video.”
FRIDAY did as requested, and there on the screen was Peter, in his old homemade spiderman suit, swinging towards the garage.
Tony felt his heart beginning to beat faster. Faster than it should.
He watched patiently for another three minutes, before the structure collapsed.

Seventeen: Fate & Desire (Part One)
Tumblr media
Characters: Seventeen x female reader
Genre/warnings: host club au, soulmate au, fluff, a little angst???, definitely some crack, and i feel like being sorta cringey counts as a warning so im listing it (this is obviously heavily based off of OHSHC so it’s bound to be somewhat cringey)
Word count: 5,951
Summary: You know you’ve found your soulmate when your pendant turns red. It’s just your luck you meet an entire host club of 13 boys – save for your best friend, Jeonghan, and his boyfriend – all at once. Your pendant is now red, and all of theirs are always hidden in their shirts. But one person in particular kind of makes you want to forget about the whole “fate” thing.
Next | F&D Masterlist
As you waited for your coffee, your fingers played with the small pendant dangling from your neck. The small stone inside it was a white, almost opal color. Looking around the café, you could see a few people with stones that had turned red, which you wanted. There was one person with one that was black; you felt bad for them.
You felt a familiar hand on your shoulder so you didn’t bother turning to see who it was.
“Did you order for me?” Jeonghan’s familiar voice asked in your ear.
You nodded, finally letting the pendant fall against your chest once more. You turned to look up at your friend, your eyes glancing at his red pendant before you met eyes with him. He looked absolutely exhausted. His eyes had faint purple circles beneath them while his hair was unbrushed, his bangs pulled back with a couple of hair pins. He didn’t even look down at you, he just kept his eyes on the baristas making coffees.
“Did you even sleep last night?” you wondered. “Or the day before that?”
He shook his head. “I was studying with the group again.”
Jeonghan seemed to always be studying with ‘the group’. All you knew was that it was a group of people Jeonghan never knew until he met his boyfriend, Joshua. You weren’t even positive that they were studying, honestly. For all you knew, your best friend was a part of some gang now.
It wasn’t that you didn’t trust Joshua. He was relatively quiet, but he was kind. You knew he worked in the library where Jeonghan first met him and his pendant turned red -- that was how he knew. They’d only been together for a few months but because of the pendants, they knew they were already made for each other. You thought they were cute together but you didn’t know who Josh’s friends were or what they were up to.
“Does the group have rules against sleeping?” you asked, lightly gripping Jeonghan’s chin and tilting his face in a new direction to get a better look at his eyes. “No offense but you look awful.”
“Tell me about it.” he scoffed. “I have to go back again tonight but then I have the rest of the week to myself.”
“Since when do you meet three times in a row?”
“We need a lot of help.”
You heard your name get called so you turned away from Jeonghan to grab both coffees. You returned to your friend, handing his drink to him which he gratefully took and sipped from immediately. The two of you left the coffee shop only to run straight into Joshua and someone you didn’t recognize.
“Hey!” Joshua smiled as soon as he saw you. He grabbed Jeonghan’s arm to steady him before giving him a peck on the cheek.
“Hey, what’s up?” Jeonghan asked casually even though you could tell from the way he was looking so lovingly at his boyfriend that he felt anything but casual.
“Hi, Josh.” you gave a polite hello, glancing curiously at the boy next to him.
“Oh!” he looked at you as if he just realized you were there. He then looked at his friend, gesturing to you. “This is Jeonghan’s friend that I was telling you about.”
The boy quickly looked you over -- it didn’t seem like he was trying to be creepy, though -- while giving you a warm smile before holding a hand out. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Jun. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
You cautiously took Jun’s hand, giving it a polite shake. “Hi, Jun.”
You didn’t recognize this guy. In fact, you weren’t sure you’d ever seen him on campus before. But he was handsome, you gave him that. Jeonghan and him seemed to know each other, though, because the two of them did some weird bro-handshake as if they’d done it a million times before.
“You’re coming again tonight, right?” Jun asked him.
‘Oh, so he’s in the group,’ you thought, ‘I should’ve guessed.’
Jeonghan nodded. “Of course.”
Jun looked at Joshua, and they exchanged some kind of silent conversation before Joshua looked at you. “Would you like to tag along?”
You were definitely taken by surprise, raising your eyebrows before knitting them together in confusion. “Me?”
“Yeah, we’ve heard a lot of good things about you.” Jun nodded. “Do you wanna come or what?”
While Jun’s reply was a little more snappy than you would’ve liked, you were definitely interested in whatever group Jeonghan had been going off with all the time. You wanted to make sure he was safe, but you also didn’t want to get yourself into some weird cult. Was it worth it?
There was a beat of silence before you cautiously replied. “Sure...why not?”
Joshua smiled at you warmly. “Cool! Jeonghan can bring you, right?”
“Right.” Jeonghan confirmed.
Jun nodded. “I’ll let the guys know.”
“Guys?” you repeated. “Is it all guys?”
“Well, yeah…” Jeonghan shrugged.
“Is that a problem?” Joshua asked, looking a little confused.
“Why are you inviting me to a thing with all guys? That sounds...sketchy.” you admitted.
Joshua quickly shook his head. “It’s nothing like that! God, you make us sound like creeps.”
“We were told we had to add at least one girl to our club.” Jun explained. “Jeonghan suggested you.”
You turned to Jeonghan accusingly. “What?”
He looked down at you, sipping his coffee. “You don’t get out much.”
“And most of us don’t really have...female friends...” Joshua added on awkwardly.
“So you offered up my help without asking me?” you raised an eyebrow at him.
“You don’t have to help, we can find someone else…” Josh interjected, seeming a little upset you suddenly didn’t want to be a part of their group.
“Most girls want to visit our club, not join it.” Jun pointed out, his eyes flickering to the coffee shop every now and then. You could tell he just wanted to end the conversation to go get his coffee. “Look, just come check it out and if you don’t want to stay, you don’t have to.”
“Please!” Jeonghan begged, resting his head on your shoulder and jutting out his lower lip in a way that made Joshua look so fond of him. “I’ll buy you lunch all week!”
“All week?” you questioned skeptically.
He sighed. “Two days.”
You nodded, having expected that response. You sipped your coffee, flinching when it burned your tongue from not cooling down enough. “Yeah, fine.”
“Great, see ya at six-thirty.” Jun replied quickly, grabbing Joshua’s wrist and bringing him toward the door to the coffee shop.
Joshua quickly gave Jeonghan a kiss before waving to you. “Bye, guys! See you tonight!”
«─── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ───»
You had to walk to one of the main buildings on campus, so at least it wasn’t too far from your apartment, but you still weren’t happy about it. Jeonghan even came over an hour early to help your pick out a “cute” outfit which ended up being some sort of skirt with a fitted shirt. He wanted to pair it with thigh highs which only had you questioning why in the hell he was dressing you up so much just for what you thought was a study group.
“I feel like a doll.” you huffed, tugging at the hem of your skirt whenever you felt people were staring as you walked to the building on campus you were meeting his friends -- which was often.
“Good, that’s how you’re supposed to feel.” he told you, smiling at you despite your sour look. He led you into one of the buildings and up the stairs. “Come on, you look adorable!”
“Why do I have to dress like this for a study group...club...thing? ...What are you guys again?”
“Well...we’re not really a study group…” Jeonghan trailed off as you stopped at a door.
You groaned, running a hand through your hair. “So you lied?”
“Only because I was too embarrassed to tell you.” he sighed. “Just...you’ll see.”
He opened the door and your sight was immediately just filled with a bunch of guys buttoning up their shirts or tying ties around their necks in what looked like a dance studio. At first, they didn’t look at the opened door, but then Joshua -- who was completely dressed but with his tie casually hanging around his neck untied -- noticed the two of you in the doorway.
“Hey, guys!” he grinned, waving to you as he walked toward the door.
Suddenly, you had a lot of eyes on you as you awkwardly played with your fingers, trying your best to subtly move yourself behind Jeonghan’s body.
“Jun wasn’t lying?” one of the boys asked, looking over at Jun who was in one of the back corners of the room, his white shirt half-buttoned.
He rolled his eyes. “You thought I lied?”
Josh kissed Jeonghan quickly before turning to you. “Junhui told the guys you were coming but nobody believed him. You look really cute, by the way!”
“Told ya.” Jeonghan stuck his tongue out at you before taking your elbow and leading you inside.
As soon as you were in the room -- that you definitely wanted to be out of -- all the boys in the room said soft hellos and greetings. You gave them a small wave but said nothing.
“We all heard a lot about you.” another boy spoke up, his smile as bright as the fluorescent lights.
“Alright,” Jeonghan grabbed your attention again, pointing to each boy as he said their name, “this is Mingyu, Wonwoo, Seokmin, Soonyoung, Junhui -- but you know him -- Jihoon, Chan, Minghao, Hansol, Seungkwan, and our president, Seungcheol.”
“Some of them created some...weird nicknames for themselves while they’re working,” Joshua explained with a teasing tone, “but call them what you please.”
You didn’t say anything as you took in the information, trying to process what exactly this all was, while ten boys studied you like you were in some sort of beauty pageant to be judged. Finally, you shook your head, squeezing your eyes closed.
“Wait, what?” you asked, looking between Jeonghan and Josh. “What even is all this?!”
Jeonghan rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Like I said, this isn’t actually a study group…”
“Well no shit, Jeonghan.” you sighed, gesturing to the way everyone was getting dressed up. “Nobody dresses like this to go over their math notes!”
“We’re a host club.” Seungcheol stepped forward to explain. “We meet twice a week and entertain students in the evening. Well, this week we met three times, but that’s neither here nor there.”
You met eyes with Seungcheol and realized that he definitely looked perfect enough to be the president of a host club. It wasn’t much of a surprise to you that Jeonghan was in this considering his looks. Seungcheol, however, had puppy-dog eyes that you just wanted to stare into forever, and scruffy dark-brown hair that looked like it would be fun to play with. He was just so cute but so strong-looking and manly at the same time.
In fact, every boy in here was attractive.
‘Well, it is a host club,’ you figured.
“And...you needed a girl in the club because…?” you wondered.
“To attract more guests.” Jeonghan told you. “Some guys don’t like other guys, okay?”
“But it’s more than that.” Seungcheol reminded him. “Administration said we needed to have someone of another gender in the club because, otherwise, it would be seen as gender discrimination.”
You looked to Jeonghan again, arms folded over your chest. “And why did you think I would be good for this? When have I ever shown any qualities of a host?”
Jeonghan grabbed you by your shoulders and spun you around in a circle. “First of all, you’re adorable. Secondly, you’re the most polite, kind, and caring person I’ve ever met. You’re like my mom when my mom can’t be here to take care of me.”
“I thought you said she was kind and caring?” Jihoon spoke up. “She seems grumpy and dismissive to me.”
It took everything in you to not shoot a death glare at the shortest boy. “Wouldn’t you be kind of grumpy if your friend lied to you for months, and then dragged you here to be a host without warning you about it? I don’t want creepy guys assaulting me!”
“Whoa, whoa, hold on,” Seungcheol chuckled -- he seemed to somehow stay completely calm and playful during this whole thing, “everything here is 100% safe. There’s no physical contact on their end. They can’t touch you, and you can tell any of us if you ever feel violated. We have rules here, and our guests are well aware of them. We have a zero-tolerance policy here to make sure everyone is comfortable.”
This president seemed pretty good, you had to admit. He clearly cared about the well-being of not only the guests, but his members.
“Just try it out!” Soonyoung suggested with a bright smile of his own. “If you don’t like it after tonight, you can leave and pretend nothing happened.”
“We won’t force you to stay,” Joshua agreed, “but we were desperate.”
“That’s why I dressed you up all cute!” Jeonghan smiled, playing gently with your hair. “We don’t have any girls uniforms, but we can get you one if you decide to stay.”
“We just ask that you keep your pendant tucked in at all times.” Seungcheol stated, looking at yours that you had tucked into your shirt beforehand anyway.
“Nobody would want to talk to us if they knew we already found the one.” Joshua shrugged, not seeming to care that he had to hide his pendant for a few hours.
“Or if they knew yours was gone.” Seungkwan spoke up.
You looked over at him and noticed the small pendant he wore was black. You felt a twist of sadness and pity in your stomach, frowning a bit.
“So...?” Jeonghan pressed.
Rolling your eyes, you crossed your arms over your chest once more. “Fine, I’ll help tonight. But only tonight.”
Jeonghan engulfed your in a big hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Joshua joined in, hugging you from the back. “We owe you big time!”
To your surprise, Seungcheol even walked over and threw his arms around the group. “We’re incredibly grateful to you.”
Then, everyone else joined in on the hug, even Jihoon and Jun who seemed more grumpy than everyone else. While you were starting to feel claustrophobic, you just let the boys have their moment, keeping your face in Jeonghan’s chest until it was over and you could breathe normally again.
-
Once the two of them were dressed in their uniforms, Jeonghan and Joshua sat you down in the room they’d be doing their activities in to quickly go over the rules. They only had five minutes until they were open for business, so you had to learn fast.
The room was pretty large and well furnished with couches, rugs, chandeliers, and plenty of refreshments. To be honest, you didn’t even know there was a room like this on campus at all. You wondered how they made this and who paid for it.
“I thought being a host meant just...flirting with everyone.” you sighed, looking over the notes Joshua had written up for you.
He shook his head, his bangs falling in his face. “Not exactly. There’s a lot more work that goes into it. You have to remember what your clients like. Each client will fill out a form which we keep in our files. Your job is to remember their preferences and try your best to abide to them. For example, some of our girls like certain pet names, or some guests don’t like certain gestures. Get it?”
“I guess so…”
“Each of us also has our own personalities, so we get a few regular clients for each of us.” Jeonghan further explained. “You’ll eventually develop your own persona but for now, just be yourself. When you become more comfortable, we’ll figure out what you are.”
“She seems pretty tsundere to me.” Jun said from where he was having Mingyu fix his tie.
“Nobody asked you…” you muttered so he couldn’t hear you.
“That’s because you’ve been giving her a hard time ever since she came in.” Soonyoung said, standing up for you, which you found surprising. “Give her a chance, asshat.”
You looked over at Soonyoung, who glanced over to you and flashed you a playful wink. You turned back to Jeonghan before your face could heat up. You weren’t used to all this attention, let alone them being flirty.
“He’s getting into character.” Joshua laughed softly, noticing your flustered state. “He meant what he said, though. The wink was...a bit much.”
“Alright, guys!” Seungcheol called, getting everyone’s attention. “Positions! Doors open in ten seconds.”
Jeonghan and Joshua pushed themselves to their feet, taking each of your hands and pulling you up from the fancy couch. Your heart was racing now due to nerves. How were you going to go through with this? How were you going to talk to people?
“Just be polite, be kind, and try to flirt as best as you can.” Jeonghan advised.
“And we’re always in the room if you need anything!” Joshua reminded you cheerily, bringing you to stand between him and Seungcheol.
Jeonghan gave you a friendly peck on the cheek before going to stand at one end of the line beside Soonyoung. You nervously looked between Seungcheol and Joshua before your eyes met the door where Seungkwan and Chan were standing, waiting to open it.
Someone put their hand on the small of your back; you assumed it was Joshua but the size didn’t seem to match his. It was warm and oddly comforting, though. You looked and saw it was Seungcheol’s arm that was going behind you. He was looking back at you with a warm smile. “Don’t be nervous, you’ll be okay. We’re all here to help each other, so anyone will be more than willing to assist you if you have questions or concerns.”
You nodded slowly, trying to take in his advice, but you didn’t have time since the grandfather clock in the corner chimed, signaling the two younger boys to open the large double doors and let the waiting crowd outside into the room.
“Hello!” all of the boys chimed at the same time.
It was more creepy to you than charming but, hey, to each their own.
Girls flowed into the room, and to your surprise, a few boys that looked nervous but eager as their eyes landed on you. You couldn’t help but back up into Seungcheol’s hand as your nerves just got worse and worse. How were you supposed to not only flirt with a guy, but multiple ones at the same time in the same room? Seungcheol kept his hand steady, keeping your in your spot but still comforting you.
“Smile.” Joshua whispered.
Realizing you were just standing there either looking lost or sad, you tried your best at a warm smile like everyone else. At the very least, you were sure it looked polite or somewhat welcoming at the very least.
“As you may have noticed, we have a new member. Her name is _____.” Seungcheol announced, gently pushing you forward. “We also noticed that she’s already brought in some new faces. We hope you’ll all treat her with as much respect and kindness as she will treat you.”
That didn’t add up. How did people already know you would be here when you were just asked today if you’d help? You’d definitely have to have a word with Jeonghan after this
“Let’s get started, shall we? We don’t want to miss any time with any of you!” Seungcheol chirped.
After that, he lead you over to a couch, sitting you down. “I’d usually have you sit with me since you’re new, but I think it’s better if you sit with someone that the guys will find less...intimidating. I’m sure Seungkwan will more than happily help you.”
As if on cue, Seungkwan came and sat down beside you on the other end of the couch, giving a cheery wave. Like you were told about their uniforms, his black pendant was tucked inside his buttoned shirt
“Will you be okay?” Seungcheol asked, his puppy eyes looking into yours.
You seemed to be entranced for a moment before you were able to choke out a “yes” with a nod. He smiled wider and left to go talk with his own clients. You looked nervously at Seungkwan, who reached over to pat your shoulder reassuringly.
As soon as Seungcheol was gone, girls began flocking to your area, obviously because of Seungkwan. He removed his hand and waved at the girls that were already fawning over him. “Hi, girls!”
Feeling a bit awkward that none of the guys had come over to you yet, you turned around to see that they were filling out papers while Joshua supervised.
‘Oh right, they have to fill out forms,’ you reminded yourself, ‘just relax.’
“Excuse me?” you heard a girl calling out. You turned your attention toward one of the girls that had pulled up a chair to sit closer to Seungkwan. “I was saying how you’re so lucky to be a part of the host club.”
You raised your eyebrows, keeping a small smile on your face like you were told. “Really? Why’s that?”
“They’re the cutest and sweetest boys ever!” another girl squealed.
“You must get showered with love all the time!” a different girl sighed, seeming a bit envious. “You’re so pretty anyway, they must be all over you.”
You laughed softly, gesturing to the girls. “Clearly not. All of Seungkwan’s attention is on you girls. He hasn’t looked at me once since you all showed up. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.”
The group of girls looked at Seungkwan and noticed that you were right; he was staring all googly-eyed at the girls instead of looking at you like he was before the girls arrived. Again, they erupted in a bunch of squeals and loving sighs as they went back to obsessing over the boy beside you.
Just then, a new person caught your attention from the corner of your eye. He sat down on the couch across from you, a shy smile on his face.
“Hello!” you chirped, trying to stay polite and happy. “You must be new, right? So am I.”
“At least we have that in common.” he chuckled sheepishly.
You introduced yourself and then found out the boy’s name was Wonho. In your opinion, he looked like he belonged in a club like this. His face looked so innocent, yet his body was very muscular, even under the baggy sweater he was wearing.
It didn’t take long for the four other boys to gather around you. After being able to glance over their forms, you found out they were Jinho, Jungkook, Hongseok, and Johnny. You were surprised you even brought in this many people.
“What made you decide to join the host club?” Johnny asked.
You shrugged, sipping at your tea that Seokmin had brought over for you. “I don’t have a lot of friends and I’m pretty shy. I thought this would be a good way to meet new people who are really nice.”
Your answer had them eating out of the palm of your hand, and it was kind of satisfying. You’d never had so many guys look at you like this before. They all looked at you like you were the best thing in the world. It was the look of a child getting that one toy they really wanted on Christmas. You actually felt really good about yourself.
“But you’re so cute, how could people not want to be friends with you?” Wonho wondered as he stirred a coffee for himself.
“Thank you!” you giggled, a blush coming to your cheeks. “I guess it’s because I’m so quiet usually. I typically just stay at my apartment; watch TV or read or something. Other than that, I’m studying or in class. Are any of you in any clubs?”
“Johnny and I are on the dance team!” Jungkook announced proudly.
You grinned. “Really? I’m so jealous! I’m an awful dancer.”
You felt eyes occasionally on you -- well, other than the ones belonging to your clients -- and you knew it was the other club members trying to see how you were doing. You personally felt like you had this under control, at least for now. You didn’t know if you could handle more than five guys at a time.
God, that was an innuendo if you ever heard one.
“I teach piano after classes.” Jinho spoke up, seeming more shy about his talent.
“That’s so cool!” you gushed, your comment genuine. “I can’t play anything, though. I’m jealous of people who are able to play instruments. I’m bad at all of that.”
“Really?” Hongseok cocked his head to the side as he looked at you. “There must be something musical you can do.”
You bit softly at your lower lip as you tried to think of something witty to say, your eyes brightening once you thought of something, but the boys seemed to think you were just happy to have thought of something you could do. “I can probably handle playing the triangle!”
The five boys laughed at your comment, and you couldn’t help but feel proud of yourself for managing to seem so cute and funny to these guys that you had just met. You couldn’t even make people you had known for years think that.
The two hours in the club seemed to fly by because before you knew it, the clock had chimed that it was now 9 o’clock. Everyone stood, so you stood too, and escorted your clients out like everyone else was, bidding them goodbye. You subtly watched as the male hosts kissed the hands and cheeks of the girls they spoke to. You were thankful none of your clients tried to do that to you, but you did give them all friendly hugs before they left.
“Come again soon!” Seungcheol called after the crowd before closing the doors.
“You absolute natural!” Seungkwan smiled at you, nudging your side. “You weren’t awkward or cold or anything! You had them wrapped around your finger!”
“That was the most charming I’ve ever seen you.” Jeonghan admitted, wrapping his arms around your waist in a tight hug. “I’m so proud of you!”
“I’ll admit it was impressive for a newbie.” Jun sighed, although he was still smiling. “Nice job.”
“You did well, but does it mean anything if you’re not staying?” Wonwoo asked, looking around at the other club members.
“I’d love to celebrate the success, but Wonwoo’s right.” Seungcheol admitted, looking at you. His eyes weren’t as bright as they were before but they were still just as soft and wonderful to look into. “This success isn’t worth much if you’re not staying. I know we won’t be meeting again until next week but...will you stay with us?”
“No pressure or anything.” Hansol added, chuckling at how everyone was staring so intently at you.
You looked around at all of the boys, some looking at you with worry, and others looking at you with pleading puppy-dog eyes. You did notice how Soonyoung was slowly inching his way toward you until he was right next to you, nudging your shoulder with his.
“Please?” he asked softly. “Come on, please?”
You fought back a smile, trying to genuinely think this over. You didn’t want to let your best friend down, but you were also nervous about meeting with so many people every week. Not to mention you weren’t allowed to have any bad days or negative emotions for two hours while you were there. That was a lot. And what if it messed with your studying, therefore, fucking up your grades?
But god, you couldn’t resist all the sad eyes and pouts of the boys in the group. They all -- mostly -- were so nice --sort of -- to you. Not to mention you’d get to spend even more time with your best friend who had to cut your hangout time a bit shorter to also make time for his boyfriend.
“I mean...there’s free food.” you sighed, running a hand through your hair. “I don’t know how to say no to free food.”
The room broke into a chorus of cheers. Before you had any time to react, Seungcheol had snaked his arms around your waist and lifted your body off the ground in a hug. You put your hands on his shoulders to have some sort of support for yourself so you wouldn’t fall, a loud squeak escaping your lips.
“Thank you; you’re the best!” Seungcheol beamed, his smile brighter than the sun. “I promise you won’t regret this!”
Once you were carefully put down on the ground again, everyone wanted a chance to thank you. Soonyoung hugged you tightly, spinning you in a circle; Seungkwan and Seokmin hugged your from your sides, even Mingyu took your hand in his and kissed the back of it, causing your cheeks to burn up immediately.
“Come on, we need to measure you to order a uniform.” Joshua reminded you. “Chan, where’s the tape measure?”
“Mingyu had it last.” the youngest reported. “He wanted to know how long his legs were.”
“I was scared that sentence was going to take a weird turn.” Hansol muttered, making you and the few others that heard laugh.
Unexpectedly, Jihoon grabbed your hand -- he must’ve still been in host mode -- and brought you to the middle of the room before he went to a drawer and pulled out a tape measure. “I keep a spare. Junhui, some help please.”
Jun measured your body -- and he measured everywhere which was kind of awkward, especially in front of so many guys you just met -- while Jihoon jotted down the numbers he called out. Not only was it awkward because you just met all but two of them, but you also had to stand there while the boy who had the tape measure wrapped it around your chest and had to read what the size of your breasts were.
And then he had to announce it.
“Can we even have this ordered in time for next week?” Mingyu asked Seungcheol.
Seungcheol nodded. “We’ll have it taken care of.”
“By the way,” you interrupted, looking toward the group of boys that felt the need to supervise your measurements being taken, “how did those guys know I’d be here?”
All eyes went to Jeonghan, whose eyes widened in surprise and guilt. He, again, rubbed the back of his neck as his eyes looked to the floor. “I kinda promised I could get you to join, sooooo, that whole bumping-into-Josh-and-Jun thing was sort of...planned…”
“Was it planned for Jun to be a dickhead, too?” you asked without thinking, which made Jihoon drop his pen and clipboard from laughing, while Jun took a step back and looked at you through squinted eyes.
Seungcheol frowned. “Junhui, what did you do?”
“I was nice!” he said defensively.
“At first.” Joshua snorted. “He can’t act in the real world like he can in here.”
“I’ve seen him be nice!” Minghao insisted. “He’s always nice to me.”
“Maybe you’re his soulmate.” Seokmin teased.
Minghao sighed sadly, pulling his pendant out from under his shirt. “Yeah, I wish this thing would turn red. Jeonghan and Shua are so lucky.”
While the boys talked, Jun and Jihoon finished taking your measurements before letting you go back to Jeonghan. He looked slightly frightened when you walked up to him.
“So you knew I’d agree to stay?” you quizzed, tapping your foot against the shiny hardwood as your arms folded over your chest.
“I hoped you would. I knew I could at least get you here for a day, so we put up posters around for it.” he shrugged.
“I haven’t seen any posters.” you said.
“You. Don’t. Leave. Your. Apartment.” he stated.
“Plus,” Soonyoung butt in, “we only put them in a few places. The gym, the cafeteria, by the track; stuff like that.”
“Basically where we assumed men would hang out,” Wonwoo shrugged.
Jeonghan looked down at your with a smug smile. “Do you even know where the gym or the track are?”
You shoved at his shoulder, causing him to stumble into Mingyu. “Yes, I know where the gym and the track are.”
“Okay, maybe it’s time to go home before a fight breaks out.” Joshua chuckled. “We’re going to take _____ home.”
“Be safe!” Seungcheol waved as the rest of the boys called out their goodbyes and goodnights.
As the three of you walked home, Jeonghan noticed your pendant was still shoved in your shirt and pulled it out. However, he dropped it as if the metal was a thousand degrees and stared wide-eyed between you and the pendant. The two of you stopped dead in your tracks, making Joshua stop and turn after he continued walking a couple steps.
Your mind immediately went to ‘it’s black’.
“What?” you asked, your heart racing with fear. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s…” he glanced at Joshua beside him to see if he was seeing the same thing. The two boys were clearly seeing the same thing considering they both had the same look of shock. “It’s red.”
“When did it turn red?!” you exclaimed in a panic, looking between the couple as if they’d have an answer. “It’s gotta be one of them then, right?! But there’s so many of them! Oh god…”
“Calm down,” Jeonghan said softly, “it’ll be okay.”
“Why is one of them my soulmate?” you groaned. “It’s nothing against them, they all seem like great people, but why?! Their job is literally to flirt with other girls!”
Joshua shrugged. “Hannie and I handle it pretty well. We know we’re each other’s soulmates so the flirting doesn’t mean anything to us.”
You suddenly stopped dead in your tracks. “What if it’s Jihoon? Jesus, it better not be Jihoon, he was so grumpy the whole time!”
“I promise, Jihoon isn’t mean.” Joshua assured your.
“It would be cute if it’s Seungcheol.” Jeonghan smiled, looking to Josh for his opinion. “Did you see him with her? My heart melted, I swear.”
Joshua nodded in agreement. “I’ve never seen Cheol be that sweet with a client.”
Your heart fluttered. Really? Seungcheol? You did admit he was extremely cute, and you loved how strong and sweet he was at the same time. You wouldn’t be upset if it was Seungcheol...
“Well, next week, we’ll just ask to check their pen--”
“No!” you yelled, stopping Jeonghan mid-sentence. “I don’t want any of them getting suspicious about the pendant. If they find out it was red when I left the club…”
Joshua suddenly gasped. “Your clients!”
You shook your head. “They’re safe. Wonho and Jungkook are baristas at the café I go to, so I know it’s not them. Hongseok is a student prof that I’ve already met, and Jinho and Johnny have both bumped into me on campus before. I’ve definitely met them before so it can’t be any of them. I just never actually knew their names.”
“We’ll figure this out,” Jeonghan promised, “but you have to be calm.”
You took a deep breath before slowly letting it out. “Calm. Right. Okay, yeah. We got this.”
“We got this.” Jeonghan repeated with a nod for confirmation.

Graffiti Wiener
(Oops, my recent fanfic kick spilled over from AT to OK KO.  tl;dr:   Darrell starts vandalizing the plaza every night and the bodega kids find it entertaining as heck.  It’s very long, set aside some time for it.  Also, disclaimer, don’t do crimes kiddos, yadda yadda yadda.)
--
It was early shift at Gar’s Bodega.  Rad opened the store that day, looked at the relatively stocked state of the shelves from the day prior, and floated to the break room for a post-wake nap.  Enid arrived second, and seeing nobody to keep her accountable she swiped an issue of Alt EDM Monthly from the magazine rack to peruse as she lounged on her counter.  As usual, KO excitedly burst through the door last, waving at his mom as she parked the car to start her own day.  But, this early on this quiet a day, his enthusiasm only took him so far into his cleaning duties.
It was too early to be at work, the three silently agreed.  Then, as if a direct challenge to their morning ennui, their boss Mr Gar angrily smashed through his office door.
“KO!  Enid!”  He turned towards the break room door in the back.  “Radicles!  Front and center!”
The three slowly marched forward, Rad in particular taking a few extra seconds to come into the store proper, yawning.  It was too early to be taking orders, the three silently agreed.
Their lack of enthusiasm only raised Mr Gar’s volume.  “You three shape up and come with me.  I got work for you.”  He stomped towards the back of the store, out the loading dock, with his employees in tow.  The four exited the building there, passed the trucks and the junkyard, and turned into the alley, where the sight that awaited them definitely made the early morning shift less dull.
Taking up almost an entire wall of the plaza alleyway was a large graffiti mural, unusually detailed and elaborate for the spray paint it was created with.  The cans of paint in question had been carelessly discarded all over the alley afterward, simply left behind in what seemed like a hurry.
“Disgusting, isn’t it,”  Gar sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose behind his glasses.  “Someone vandalized the plaza last night, and today I’ve got two jobs for you!”
KO wasn’t listening.  He immediately rushed over towards the wall to get a better look.  “It’s so pretty!!”
“Yeah, this is pretty sick,” Enid agreed.  “They did this in only one night?”
Gar snapped his fingers to regain their attention.  “I have two jobs for the three of you.  First, you’re cleaning up this mess.”  He kicked a stray can out from under his feet, and pointed to a large bucket of white paint, a tray, and two paint rollers he’d set up underneath the mural.  “I want every trace of what happened here last night gone, understand?”
“Yes sir, Mr Gar!”  The three saluted enthusiastically.
“Good.”  He paused.  “KO, I only had two paint rollers and they’re pretty short, so you clean up the trash.”
“I’m on it!”  KO gave a big smile, bouncing on his heels at the thought of having his own special mission.
“Now, the second thing…”  Mr Gar leaned forward over his employees, to gain a more intimidating presence.  “I want you three to come back here tonight, and keep watch over the plaza.  If the creep who did this comes back, you’re to stop them at all costs.  Understood?”
Enid and Rad looked at each other nervously, before giving their boss a shaky thumbs-up.
“If this wall isn’t sparkling white when I come in tomorrow morning, I am going to be very.  Very.  Disappointed in you.”  He leaned back into his normal posture, and even a little further to crack his back.  “Welp, time’s a-wastin’, Bodegamen.  Get to work!”
All three shouted “Yes sir!” after him as he departed back towards the loading dock, leaving them to their tasks.
KO excitedly hopped around gathering spray cans, while Rad and Enid set up the paint tray.  Enid in particular looked up at the mural again, studying the various scenes it depicted:  A giant orange dragon along the top, who seemed to be desperately chomping and grabbing at a bunch of glittering technoes in mid-flight.  In the center, a nondescript man in a cowboy hat riding a yellow horse, shooting what looked like a revolver at the dragon, and missing all six shots.  Off to one side, a cute cartoony mouse glowing a gross nuclear green, and with what looked like toxic waste dripping from its mouth.  On the other side, the artist’s tag, reading “DB” in simple, red block letters.
She sadly contemplated what she would soon have to do to the piece.
“So...who do you think could’ve made this anyway?”  KO asked as he ducked between his friends to grab a paint can.
Rad didn’t even hesitate.  “It’s Darrell.  No question.”
“Are you sure?”  Enid gestured towards the parking lot with her thumb.  “I know he’s a graffiti wiener, but usually all he does is tag our sign every now and then.  I didn’t think he was able to do stuff like...this.”
“You know any other graffiti wieners with the initials ‘DB’?” he asked, pointing towards the tag.  He coated his paint roller in the tray, and raised it to the mural.  “Welp, guess we better get paintin’.”
“Hold up a second, Rad!”  Enid put down her roller and took several steps back, motioning for him to move aside.  She produced her phone from her pocket and took several pictures of the wall, occasionally stepping to the right or the left to get a better angle.  “It’s kind of a waste to just cover it up like this, you know?”
“Dude, Enid, it was painted by a Boxbot.”
“Oh well?  I still think it looks cool.”  She took one final picture, and then swiped back through them.  “I’ve been reading a bunch of articles in Alt EDM Monthly about this DJ that also posts a ton of graffiti tutorials on Social Media, so I guess I’ve been on a real street art kick.  And this…”  She cropped a picture of the mouse portion.  “...is my new lock screen.”
“Heh, okay then,” Rad scoffed.
She put her phone away and grabbed the roller again.  “Alright, now let’s get to work.”
I didn’t take long before the whole wall was covered in two coats of plain white, letting through no traces of the graffiti underneath.  The alleyway was spotless, with KO even finishing with the paint cans early and then using the time to collect the rest of the place’s usual debris.  It was at least an eventful start to a dull early morning shift, the three silently agreed.
--
The late shift, though, was another story.  Mr Gar had let his employees leave early to make up for coming back so late, and they were refreshed and ready for a Boxbot fight.
They took up a lookout position in a part of the fenced junkyard overlooking the alley, hiding behind a large pile of trash and robot parts.  Enid checked the time, quietly signalling to the other two to keep their eyes open, but three hours later even she was ready to call it a night.  Not even a tiny dinosaur had passed through the alley at all.
KO looked up at his friends and yawned.  “I think we should just go home.  I told Mommy we’d be out past my bedtime, but not this late…”
“You wanna take a nap, go ahead kiddo.  I’m about there too.”  Rad shifted to a slightly more comfortable position, not an easy feat in a pile of scrap metal.
“Guys, don’t stick me with lookout.”  Enid continued scrolling through her Social Media feed to keep awake, not even paying attention to her duties at all.
They heard a metallic thump, and Enid looked up from her phone. “Rad, was that you?”  She shook him awake when she got no response.
“It sounded like it was coming from the parking lot!”  KO whispered.  The three peeked out from behind their pile to see a hooded figure sneaking into view around the front of the plaza.  The intruder kept nervously looking around to make sure the alley was clear, before jogging back to the site of their previous mural.  The bodega employees couldn’t be sure in the dark, but it looked like the figure sighed as they laid a bright green backpack on the pavement and pulled back their hood.
The exposed brain case and large, single eye in the center of their forehead as they whipped their head around to do one last sweep of the area were unmistakable.
“Yep, that’s a Darrell.”  Rad pulled the other two back behind the pile.  “Ready to smash ‘im?”
“...You know what?  Hang on a sec.”  Enid grabbed Rad’s shoulder and held him in place.  “We’ve still got that white paint, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Then…”  Enid let him go to peek at Darrell, squinting to see better in the dark.  “I say we just let him go.  I kinda wanna see what he does.”
KO peeked around the other side of the trash pile.  “But Enid,”  he whispered, “What about Mr Gar?  Darrell’s gonna mess up the wall again.”
“We’ll just repaint it once he’s done.”
“Oh…”
Darrell dug in his backpack for a few moments, before finally pulling out the aerosol can he was looking for.  He popped the top off, just letting it clatter along the pavement, and shook the can vigorously before laying down the first marks of a new piece.
“Orange!”  KO excitedly whispered to the others.  “He’s using orange first!”
“Yeah.  Looks like he’s got a flame theme with this one,” Enid and KO both quietly got comfortable to watch the show.
Rad rolled his eyes.  “I guess I just don’t get it.”  He didn’t exactly stop watching Darrell work, though, from over KO’s shoulder.
The robot finished the base coat on the flames, and set the can down at his feet.  He dug in his bag again and pulled out a can of yellow, and then a can of red, using them to add variation to the flat orange.  With the flame background detailed, he placed the red can with the others and stepped back to take in his work.  Satisfied, he dug for yet another can, and started painting black vertical bars across the entire canvas.
“Aw, what’s he doing?”  KO pouted.  “He’s ruining it!”
Enid clapped her hand over her little friend’s mouth as his whispering got just a little too loud for comfort.  “Let’s just see where he’s going with this.”
As he started focusing on a portion of the canvas, though, Darrell suddenly started to act uneasy.  He whipped his head around again, scanning the alley for anyone watching his efforts.  The bodega trio ducked back behind their garbage pile just quick enough to avoid being spotted.  He stared towards the junkyard for more than a few seconds, before finally turning back towards the wall and continuing with the black paint.
“Phew…”  Enid held KO on her lap as Rad leaned back into the trash.  He didn’t do so as silently as he’d hoped, though, and a small piece of scrap metal above his head loosened and dropped, loudly skittering across the ground as all three looked on in horror.
In the alley, Darrell jumped at the noise, throwing his paint at a nearby trash can.  Like a startled rabbit, he bolted towards the parking lot, not even bothering to check what had made the sound.  As he turned the corner out of sight, the trio heard his rocket boots activate and fade into the distance in the direction of Boxmore.
Enid released a breath she’d been holding for what seemed like the entire night, relieved she could finally do so without watching her volume.  She and KO left their post to examine the fresh mural their archenemy had left behind, while Rad leaned against a clean wall nearby.
Between the black bars, Darrell had been painting a pair of hands gripping two of them when he was interrupted, one of which appeared to be melting and dripping down into the flames below.
“Huh.  He’s a tortured artist.  I like it.”  Enid pulled out her phone again to snap pictures, using the flash to illuminate the area.
Rad, however, started investigating a much more intriguing target.  “Hey, guys, look what he left for us!”  He picked up the paint-filled backpack and draped it over his shoulder.  He had forgotten to actually close it, though, and as he whipped it around about a dozen paint cans labelled in various colors fell out and scattered down the alley, which KO helpfully ran after.
“You guys, quit bein’ so loud!”  Enid couldn't help but laugh at her coworkers’ antics, though.
“You’re one to talk, E.”  Rad set the bag down between his feet and opened it wide.  “Toss me one, KO!”
He did so, though his aim was a bit off.  Rad quickly grabbed the tossed can in midair using his telekinesis, guiding it home.  “Good shot, buddy!  Keep ‘em coming!”
While the boys repacked the backpack, Enid got to work preparing the rollers and paint tray.  It took just about as long as it had done earlier to apply the two coats and hide all evidence that anyone had vandalized the plaza once again.
“Just one thing left to do I guess.”  Enid motioned toward the backpack draped over Rad’s shoulder.  “Let’s toss that thing back across the street.”
Rad resisted.  “Actually, I got a better idea.  I’ll hang onto it for now.”  He put on the backpack a bit more properly, with both straps around his shoulders.
“What, you repainting your van with that stuff?”
“Naw, you’ll see.”  He smirked.  “Besides, maybe if Darrell doesn’t have this he won’t be able to come back tomorrow night.”
“I don’t think that’ll stop him.”  Enid sighed.  “We might want to keep an eye out for him tomorrow too.  Meet me here at midnight?”
KO and Rad agreed.  The latter checked his phone, and groaned.
“Speakin’ of my van, yeesh.  It is way too late.  I’ll drive us home.”
KO looked up at the moon, barely visible over the alley wall above them.  “Yeah…I definitely missed my bedtime.”
--
Darrell did return the next night, as the trio expected.  This time he carried a light blue backpack, with an ‘S’ and a few of what were either flowers or tiny sawblades embroidered along the top.  He was much more careful to make sure he was unwatched, however, to the point of even walking up to the junkyard fence to check behind the piles of trash.
Luckily, the bodega employees had taken up a new lookout spot on the roof, just above the wall Darrell had taken to painting.  They peered down at him periodically as he worked, using the sound of his spray can to judge when it was safe to do so.
From that angle, it was difficult to miss the large crack in Darrell’s brain case.
“Hey, we blew him up today, right?”  Enid whispered.  KO nodded; this was definitely a different body than the one they’d chucked into the junkyard piece by piece earlier in the day.
The robot started spraying again, so Enid leaned over the ledge, checking his progress.  So far, he had finished what looked like a portrait of himself, simplified of course, and with a sad expression on his face.  Darrell stepped back, though with his eye luckily focused forward, and she noticed he was mimicking the expression on his real face.  Then he looked down at his feet, searching for one of the colors he’d used previously, as Enid ducked back to safety.
“He’s getting a little more literal today,” she commentated to a curious KO.  He took the next turn to lean forward, with Rad tightly holding onto his hand just in case.
As KO was pulled back, he quietly reported the next developments.  “He started drawing...something around his head.”  He looked down.  “I couldn’t tell what it was yet.”
Enid scrolled through her phone.  “Rad, you’re up.”
The alien peeked down for a second, then quickly leaned back.  “He’s got teal.  I think he’s drawing my fist,” he whispered, making one to illustrate his statement.
“That’s...weird.  Is he drawing us fighting him?”
“I dunno, KO.”  Rad took another peek.  Looks like he’s got yours and I think Enid’s fists too.  And a bunch of others…
“Let me see.”  Enid set down her phone and took her turn once Darrell was distracted again below.  There were indeed a number of arms ending in fists aimed at the painted Darrell’s head -- she recognized Rad’s immediately, and KO’s with his armband, and one plain human one that had to be hers, but there were also a bright orange one, one with a red glove, a catlike yellow claw, a couple of purple ones, and a green one.  And a large open space at the very top, which she could barely examine before she needed to duck away as Darrell glanced up towards it.
The three stayed far from the edge for a while, just listening as he sprayed that final arm, which seemed to take longer than all the others.  Eventually, the sounds of the robot shaking cans and spraying paint gave way to some sniffling.  Then, the sound that they had been waiting for, as Darrell rustled through his backpack again, and all three leaned over the ledge to see the final result.
In that top spot was a bright yellow chicken claw, not just aiming at the painted Darrell but actually smashing right through his brain case, with bits of the green glass and even little fleshy chunks painted around the wound.  The robot’s eye had also been painted over with a large black X.  They momentarily glanced down at Darrell, who had stopped searching his bag and was wiping away a few tears.
The three ducked back, still silent.  Enid looked at the boys, with an expression of horror.
“Okay, he’s a really tortured artist.”
Rad nodded.  “This got dark.”
They were interrupted by Darrell shaking another can, this time much more vigorously.  Rad held out KO to watch as he began haphazardly painting what eventually turned into a crude depiction of Lord Boxman’s face, finishing with his bright red eye.  Darrell stood there holding the can of red for a moment, sadly looking at the second piece...and then angrily crossed it out.  And then again, and again -- he wildly swung the can around while spraying, as if to assault the image with the paint.  Eventually he threw the can itself at the image, and, still frustrated, even started kicking at the wall with his boot until he had finally vented all of his rage.
He stepped back again, picked up the can of red, and quickly finished the piece by placing his tag in the corner, in red block letters:  “DB”.  He then unceremoniously kicked aside the cans he’d used, put on the backpack, and ran out of the alley, leaving the area empty for the bodega employees to descend.
Enid once again snapped plenty of pictures of the wall as KO and Rad picked up the scattered spray cans, though this time without a backpack to catch them in.  As the teens worked at covering the graffiti, Rad spoke up.
“Do you think this actually happened to him today?”
“Well…”  Enid compared the damage she had seen from above versus the damage in the painting.  “Maybe a super angsty emo-teen version of what happened to him today.  Guess things aren’t going so great at Boxmore right now.”  She looked down, and stopped.  “Wait, shoot…”
There were bright red footprints going down the alleyway a short distance, from the mural site to the sidewalk in front of the fitness dojo before they finally faded, likely from Darrell’s boots as he ran.  She remembered KO’s report of the robot kicking at the red paint and facepalmed.
“Oh geez.  So much for cleaning up all the evidence he was here…”  She ran her finger over one of the tracks.  “It’s already dry.”
“Hang on, I think I know how to fix this!”  KO searched through the paint cans he’d collected and found the black one.  He slowly shook it as he’d seen Darrell do, then, holding it with both hands, pressed down on the top to spray a large black blob of paint onto the asphalt, covering the footprint fully.
Enid giggled, and patted him on the back.  “Vandalism is wrong, Brush Head.  But, good idea.”  She found him a lighter gray can for the sidewalk, and let KO cover the rest of Darrell’s tracks while she helped Rad finish on the wall.
--
Darrell’s subject matter wasn’t nearly as dark the next night, or the night after that.  They noticed from the roof that the crack in his head had been repaired, and he smiled and even hummed off-key as he worked, covering the wall in some more abstract, experimental images, like a door being shut in someone’s face with a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign hanging on it, and a princess tiara being chewed on by a swarm of rats, and a few frogs jumping around in a puddle of oil.
He seemed to be using the latter two to practice his shading, and even worked it into his “DB” tag, trying a gradient effect on the letters the fourth night, then a failed chrome effect the fifth night that he angrily painted over in plain red, and finally another attempt at the chrome on the sixth night that was a clear success.
Of course, every night after he finished painting the wall, the trio painted over it once again, though not before Enid could take a photo.  She flipped through them at work on the seventh day since Mr Gar had tasked them with keeping the wall vandalism-free, until Red Action stopped her on one.
“Dude, this one’s sick!”
“I know, right?  He’s actually getting really good.”
“Man, it’ll really stink when you guys finally make him stop in the alley.”
Enid shook her head, trying to empty out the cobwebs and process what she had just heard.  “When...we make him stop?”
“Dude, you’ve been stayin’ up a whole week watching ‘im, right?  That can’t be good for ya.”  Red pointed out the dark bags under Enid’s eyes, and the fact that she’d dozed off at least twice since Red entered the bodega.
Enid recounted the number of graffiti murals she’d photographed.  There were seven, it had been an entire week.
No wonder she was so tired.
Enid yawned after being reminded of the fact, watching it spread throughout the store as KO and Rad both copied her.
“We seriously have been up every night for an entire week, huh.”  She pressed at her forehead.  “Yeah, we gotta stop this.”
“I mean, it’s still cool and all, but whatever.”  Red scoffed.  “Probably for the best you just sleep and let ‘im go.  You gotta take care of yourself more.”
“What’s Mr Gar gonna think if we don’t cover it up every night, though?”  Enid shuddered.
“Well, that’s why you gotta chase him away!”  Red unconsciously formed her hand into an arm cannon.  “Just blast ‘im a couple times, like you do when they bust over here during the day!”
Rad interrupted from aisle 2, “I can blast him tonight no problem!  Right in his robo-butt!”
Enid just shook her head, smiling.  “Rad, please think before you open your mouth for once…”  She finished ringing up Red Action’s order, waving her off as she left.  With the store now empty, Enid’s coworkers gathered around the counter.
“So, we’re really gonna stop Darrell tonight?”  KO yawned again.
“Yeah, bud.  There’s no way we can keep this up.”
The other two were quiet, leaning against the counter to stay up.  Enid was so tired she didn’t even care they were touching her sacred space.
Suddenly Rad seemed to realize something.  “Hey, Enid, can I...try something tonight, when we see him in the alley?”
“Sure dude, what did you have in mind?”
“Remember when I took his backpack with all that paint, and I said I had a plan I was working on?”
KO lit up.  “Oh yeah!  You were gonna repaint your van with that stuff!”  He laughed as Rad playfully punched him in the shoulder.
“No, squirt.  I was gonna do somethin’ cool for us, but it might work better to try it on him tonight.  You know, instead of just smashing his face.”  He looked uncharacteristically serious.  “The thing is, though...I gotta go get some stuff ready after we stop him.  So, can you and KO hold him there for a couple of minutes?”
Enid and KO looked at each other, and nodded.
“Well, it sounds like we’ve got a plan,” Enid announced.  The three put out their fists, bumping them across the counter.  “See you guys tonight.”
--
For their final night of watching Darrell, the trio again hid in the junkyard, trusting that their target had relaxed enough to not look behind the trash piles again.  To their relief, he didn’t, and as he arrived Darrell simply set down his backpack and began rifling through it for the right color as usual.
“So, when he tries to run…”  Enid pointed towards the alley exit, on the parking lot side.  “Rad, you’ll catch him, then pass him off to us.  We’ll keep him here until you’re ready to go.”
Rad gave a thumbs-up, and readied himself alongside KO.  As Darrell finally selected his can and started shaking it, he loudly shouted, “Hey!”
Darrell turned around, his eye widening in shock at the sight of the alien jumping out from behind a trash pile and floating over the fence, the other two shrouded in a pink glow as he brought them along too.  He shrieked and bolted towards the parking lot, just as Enid had predicted, tossing the easily-dodged paint can in Rad’s direction.  Rad’s finger glowed as he quickly grabbed the robot’s legs with his telekinetic powers, then the rest of him, and yanked him back into the alley, where Enid and KO grabbed his arms and held him in place on the ground.
“You good?”
“Yeah, go for it!”  Enid adjusted her grip as Darrell struggled, and Rad sprinted away towards the loading dock.
“Stop it, Darrell!”  KO used a free hand to pat him on the head, to the robot’s confusion.  “We aren’t gonna fight you this time, okay?  Rad’s got a plan!”
“Oh, so what, you’re gonna turn me in or something?”  Darrell made another attempt to get free, but no success.
“No, you jerk.  We wanna talk.”  Enid paused, then experimentally loosened her grip to show she meant it.  “You cool with that, dude?”
Darrell squinted.  “...Really?  Why?”
“Hang on, lemme show you something.”  She dug her phone out of her pocket.  “We’ve been staking you out here every night this week, to see what you paint.  And, I guess to cover it up too before Mr Gar sees.  But, we think it’s really cool, okay!”  She turned on the lock screen, showing the nuclear rat she still had on it.  “See?  I took pictures of all of them before we cleaned them up.”
Darrell looked up at the phone and, appropriately, made a tiny, scared squeak.
“You’re...You’re gonna tell my dad I’ve been coming here, aren’t you?”  He stopped struggling, instead sitting up a bit and curling defensively into his cloak.  “That’s your plan, isn’t it?  Get me in trouble again, for sneaking out after curfew every night, with proof?”
“No, dude!”  She released her grip entirely, now that the robot was pacified.  “We’re saying we like your art!  Right KO?”
“Yeah!”   The boy giggled.  “I really liked the cowboy fighting that dragon, and that one with a lot of fire, and the snakes!  They were all really beautiful!”
Darrell paused, unsure how to even react.  “...R...Really?  You...thought they were...cool?”  He blushed, turning away from his archenemies.  “You guys thought...I was cool?”
“Eh, you’re still kind of a nerd.  But yeah, your art really is cool, Darrell.”  Enid unlocked her phone and flipped through the photos again as he watched.  “You’re getting really good.  Where did you even learn to tag like that?”
“Well, there’s this DJ on Social Media who posts a lot of tutorials.  I was just following those…”
“Nice.”  Enid flashed him a thumbs-up, but then landed on the painting of Darrell having his brain case punched in.  The robot shifted uncomfortably at seeing it again, averting his eye.
“Is...there some bad blood going on between you and your dad right now, Darrell?”
He sunk into his cloak a little more, shrinking into the space between his captors.  “I don’t have blood,” the robot said matter-of-factly.  “But...I guess I was having a bad day.  You really saw that, huh?”
“Yep.  All of it.”  Enid shrugged.  “Sorry.”  She noticed Rad poking his head around the corner, beckoning them towards the back of the plaza.  “Hey, come on.  Rad’s got something for ya.”
“We don't know what it is,” KO added as he led the others, “but we know it’s not Lord Boxman!”
Darrell gave a small smile, and willingly followed the kid around the corner, gasping when he saw…
“My backpack!”  He dropped onto the ground and hugged it.  “I was looking everywhere for this thing!”
“That’s not the surprise, dude.  Look up.”  Rad stood proudly in front of three large shipping pallets, the kind the bodega received every day, all painted with the same white paint they had been using on the wall.  He had them leaned against the loading dock’s door, a ready canvas begging to be painted.
“Wait, these are...for me?”  Darrell stood, taking several seconds to process the situation.
“Look, buddy, graffiti-ing the plaza is...kind of illegal, but you weren’t really hurting anyone with it.  And this way you’re not actually painting anything on the plaza, and if Mr Gar doesn’t like it he can just toss ‘em and I’ll get you some new ones.”  Rad pointed to the pile of used pallets by the door.  “Seriously, we have so many…”
Darrell snapped out of his processing.  “So, I can come here at night...and tag these?  And you guys’ll let me?”  The bodega employees nodded.
He hugged his backpack tighter, not even bothering to hide the excitement on his face.  But then he thought for a moment, and set the bag down, pulling out a few random cans of paint.
“Hey, um...If you guys want…”  He held one up towards KO.  “You wanna tag with me?  Just, like this once…”
KO happily took the paint.  “We’d love to, Darrell!”  He glanced at Enid and Rad, who just smiled and obliged, taking cans for themselves.
The four each picked a portion of the canvas and got to work, not stopping until they started butting in on their neighbors’ art, and with the entirety of the three pallets covered they stepped back to admire the finished piece.  They could only laugh together at how much the art clashed, from Radicles’ rough depictions of muscled teal cats, to Darrell’s abstract gears and wires, to Enid’s ninja clan logos and a “DJ Fireball” tag, to KO’s very rough but lovingly-rendered painting of him and his friend Baby Teeth riding a unicorn to a hot dog stand (as he described it to his confused audience).
Enid pulled out her phone to photograph the mural as this time Darrell scooped up the used cans into his reclaimed backpack, but as she was trying to get a clear shot Rad edged into the frame, standing in front of his section while contorting his face into the silliest possible expression.  KO almost immediately followed suit, ignoring Enid’s attempts to get the two to move.  Then Darrell backed into the frame as well, throwing an amazingly corny finger gun pose in front of his section, and Enid couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Rad?”
“On it.”  He used his power to hold the phone up and tap the selfie button as Enid took her place and ridiculous pose as well, and once everything was in place he snapped the picture.
“That was perfect!”  Darrell cried out, cracking up once again as he saw the final result.  He put on the backpack, then nervously tapped his fingers in front of him as he tried to think of what one was supposed to say to their mortal enemies after genuinely having fun together for over an hour.
“Th-Thanks for...all this.  Really.  I’ll...I’ll see you tomorrow when I attack the plaza, I guess.  Bye!”  He smiled and waved as he ran around to the parking lot again, using his rocket boots to cross the street.
The others stayed for a bit, still admiring the graffiti, but then KO broke out into laughter once again.
“What’s so funny, kid?”  Rad giggled a little along with him.
“You guys...we just hung out and painted a picture and took a funny selfie with a Boxbot.  Friend-style!”
The other two sat up in shock.
“We...we really did, huh Brush Head?”  Enid joined in, laughing alongside KO and Rad.
“Oh man, I kinda wish we could tell Lord Boxman without Darrell getting in trouble.  I just wanna see the look on his face!”
“Don’t worry Rad, I bet he’d just be like…”  Enid made a face somewhere between ‘seething rage’ and ‘just ate the sourest candy in the world’, to the others’ amusement.
The two picked themselves up and piled into Rad’s van, ready to finally call it a night for good.
--
“KO, Rad, and Enid!!”  The three immediately snapped to attention in front of Mr Gar, but then looked on in pure terror as their enraged boss held up a blue embroidered backpack full of spray paint.
“Anyone care to tell me what this was doing in the alleyway this morning?”
“Oh.”
“Uh…”  Enid and Rad searched for a way to explain the night’s activities, but then KO spoke up.
“The graffiti wiener came back last night, sir.  But we scared him before he could paint in the alley!”  Technically, it wasn’t a lie.
Gar harrumphed before handing the bag to the child.  “Well, good job I guess.  Now go do something with this where I can’t see it.”  He stomped back into his office, grumbling something about having to throw away a bunch of shipping pallets as well.
The employees breathed a sigh of relief, returning to their daily bodega tasks.  As KO began to carry the heavy backpack into the break room, though, the Boxmore alarm blared.
“Cob, now?  Really?”  Enid pinched her septum and hopped over the counter.  She led the charge to meet the two large boxes crashing into the parking lot, which seemed to be...yelling at each other?
Darrell and Shannon both broke out, focusing more on each other than the plaza.
“Look, I know you took it, so just tell me where it is!”
“I told you like three times Mushroom-Head, I don’t know where you left it!”
“You’re seriously still saying I lost my-!”  She looked at KO, still holding the backpack, and pounced, ripping it out of the child’s hands.  “My backpack!  What the heck are you losers doing with it?!”
KO glanced over her shoulder at Darrell, now very anxious that he’d been caught in his lies, and winked.  Darrell tried to wink back in return, but it ended up as more of a regular blink.
“We stole it!  And filled it with trash!”  KO claimed, as Shannon opened it to reveal the spray cans.  She tossed the bag aside in her confusion, and whipped out a sawblade right into his face.
“How dare you, you little…”
Rad yawned as he lifted her away with his telekinesis, throwing her right into the path of one of Enid’s fireballs, which in turn redirected the robot less-than-gracefully into the pavement.  With a final power punch from KO, Shannon was down for the count.
The three turned then to Darrell, who drew out his arm cannon but otherwise paused before his attack.
“Hey, guys, um...I’ve gotta fight you right now, but...is it cool if we hang out again tonight?”  He shrugged.  “It was really fun.”
“Honestly that sounds awesome, bro, but…”  Rad motioned for Enid to continue as he dropkicked Shannon’s backpack over to Boxmore, for her to pick up once she rebooted.
Enid rubbed her eyes, still with dark circles under them.  “We have a lot of sleep to catch up on, dude.  Maybe next week?”
Darrell gave her a thumbs-up in response, then powered up his cannon and charged into battle.

Lol got called a lying racist by a white football hooligan from the north on Twitter cos of my observations re: the difference in the response of people (Twitter users, primarily white and/or middle class) in the immediate aftermath of the grenfell tower fire vs manchester and London bridge. Because apparently voicing the discrepancy i saw on Twitter counts as racism. But I'm not sure against whom???? White people? Cos it certainly wasn't criticising anyone else... like...erm...im white as a ghost so I thought maybe he thought I was going after the people of colour for some confusing reason??? (But honestly who the fuck does that?!)... and I briefly skimmed his Twitter and he's like retweeting the same shit i am so like...we're on the same side I think? So either he completely misunderstood my tweet or he's selectively engaged in the issues. (ie. He'll only agree and retweet when the criticism doesn't directly target him and his Aryan hooligan brethren.) Like I want to talk a lot more about this but I'm on mobile and i hate doing long ass serious posts using my stupid phone and it's fucking bonkers autocorrect. So in brief, and maybe I'm way off base cos really Twitter feeds can look different to different people, but my point is that in the IMMEDIATE aftermath, aka within 1-2 hours, and peaked not long after but was still very present 8 hrs later, the hashtags for both the MCR bombing and the London bridge/borough market attack were positively FLOODED with people offering their homes/sofas/beds/transport/ubers to victims and the displaced. Like at least 50% of the feed I saw was that. (That other half was terrorism speculation and islamophobia). It was amazing the outpouring of offers of shelter and support, no questions asked. "I have a free sofa if u need it. Happy to take you in! Dm me!!!" And that sorta stuff. Then.... yesterday. When I woke up like most of london, which was a good 5 hours after the fire started, I obvs was all over Twitter trying to get a handle on it. The news was on too. What I saw there was totally different in the tags. There was still a small proportion of islamophobia and terrorism speculation, but by and large it was "oh my thoughts and prayers go out to all the people in the fire". I would say at least 60% were "thoughts and prayers". The rest were places to donate clothes and food with a smattering of outspoken people calling bullshit and getting people woke about the reality of this (ie. The politics, racism and classism at work). I saw very, very few people offering shelter. In fact only 3 in my endless scrolling. At first I didn't recognise what was at work. But then as I saw the interviews and such on tv, it hit me. Primarily the victims of MCR and borough market were children and tourists, and predominately white and lower-to-upper middle class. They are the "innocent victims of a horrible terrorist crime!". And I'm not saying they weren't. The victims of the grenfell tower fire are predominantly black, brown, Muslim and/or working class, if not poor. Some are white too but they're the "chavs". It was council housing. It was interesting then to me that there had been such a massive outpouring of shelter offers then but people seemed to be suspiciously quiet when it came time to offer predominately poor, non-white people a place to sleep. Especially the white people who were all jumping at the chance to offer pointless "thoughts and prayers" but little else. THEY DON'T NEED YOUR FUCKING PRAYERS. THEY NEED CLOTHES, FOOD, A BATH, AND A PLACE TO SLEEP THAT ISN'T THE FLOOR OF A GYMNASIUM WITH 500 OTHER PEOPLE! THEIR ENTIRE LIVES HAVE BURNT TO THE GROUND. THEY HAVE NO HOMES LEFT. They aren't momentarily displaced like the victims and those affected in the immediate aftermath of MCR and Borough attacks. They literally have nowhere to go anymore. And what was more interesting to me is that they are surrounded by really nice vacant properties and loads of airbnbs. Not to mention a shitload of richass white people. Like, I was staying in an airbnb flat in Chelsea not too far away that I know for a fact is vacant right now. There are people without homes 20 min away, and that flat is just sitting empty. (Now full disclosure, the reason it's empty is cos the boiler broke and it's not gonna get fixed anytime soon. But I dunno, if I had lost my whole life in a few hours, I'd be happy to stay in a nice flat even without hot water or heat. It's summer.) You certainly don't see anyone in Notting hill, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, or south Kensington on Twitter opening up their homes/sofas for their working class neighbours. Well, I didn't see any anyway. And that was my point that dude got so upset by. Like???? But it's my observations?????? And don't anyone dare tell me that this whole thing doesn't have a strong current of racism and classism at the root cause. And like I'm racist for calling out racism??? Or maybe I'm just racist for assuming that the reason there wasn't a flood of like offers was cos of the victims' race? I mean maybe there is something else at work preventing Londoners from offering shelter the same as they did a mere 12 days ago... Maybe it's just a bad coincidence. But it's all rather odd at any rate that suddenly nobody has a sofa to lend anymore. He said that I was "lying". Which I wasn't. That is literally what I saw on my Twitter when I searched latest and top for the hashtag. Maybe it shows up differently to different people but I'm not lying when I say i saw a torrent of shelter offers for the terror attacks but only 3 at the times I was on the fire hashtag. Like maybe hashtags show different things? He's in manchester and I was actually in Kensington. But then surely I should have more of the local help offered tweets, no? He claimed he saw a lot of offers of clothes, food and shelter. I saw lots of people tweeting about where to drop off donations of food and clothing. Yes. Lots of awareness of that. I also saw a lot of tweets praising Jaime Oliver for opening his restaurant to feed victims for free. I saw a few about EE offering up their shops/phones/tablets for free for victims and relatives to contact each other. I saw a few wonderful people offer things like diabetes medications and stuff that you may not even think of but for those with certain diseases it's really important. I saw a bunch of people thanking emergency services for their work. I saw a lot calling out other shops and businesses for NOT stepping up to donate and help, like Sainsburys. I saw people talking about the politics of this tragedy. I saw people complaining about the affected people talking about the politics. I saw Akala taking the lead in addressing the systemic causes of all of this. I saw a few assholes saying racist shit. And a few saying classist shit. And I saw tweet after tweet after tweet of thoughts and prayers and "my ❤ is with you london" rubbish. Oh golly thanks. My home has burnt down and my neighbours are dead but at least some 25 yr old white girl in Shoreditch feels a bit sad as she sits in her gentrified garden flat drinking craft microbrewery beer and watching OITNB on netflix. (Ooh hit a nerve? And yes I know not everyone else is in a position to help either and that is literally all they can do. But the discrepancy between those same people who were willing to open their doors to a victim of the London bridge attack and those willing to open their doors to victims of an attack by their own governments is appalling.) You know what I didn't see? Overwhelming floods of tweets for offers of a sofa to crash on, or a uber ride to a friend or family member's house from a stranger. I saw those on the nights of MCR and borough. And what made this worse is an interview I saw on the news with some of the victims and relief workers in the area. They were all saying that by and large, the majority of donations were coming from their own communities, not their so-called neighbours in Notting Hill or Chelsea, or the white hipsters in Shoreditch or the business suits at canary wharf. They were coming from other people of colour and other working class and poor people. The majority of offers of volunteering and food were from neighbouring churches, mosques, and community members, not the spoiled Chelsea brats. And certainly not from the landlord, council or property developers. So for every retweet of where to drop off food, clothes, bedding, baby stuff, etc. It was other disenfranchised people doing the actual work moreso than the people tweeting about it and not actually doing much. Now, a day later it's 80% politics, 19% donations, and still 1% offers of transportation and shelter. Actually I didn't see a single shelter offer just now after scrolling for a while but I'm playing it safe and not assuming there are none at all. They didn't suddenly find homes, you know. There's photos of where they're all sleeping. The floor. Of a sports complex. I've seen one tweet of the first named victim. I don't see his photo posted everywhere with outpouring of sympathy from across the board. Where is his front page story? http://www.itv.com/news/2017-06-15/victims-of-grenfell-tower-fire-disaster/ His name was Mohammad Alhajali. He was a Syrian refugee. Think about that for a second... I also don't see widely circulating appeals for missing children. There are missing children of colour. Just saw the one. Surely there are more. Why not more awareness being done? Because they weren't attending a concert but rather asleep in council housing? (I am honestly only going by Twitter and the #grenfelltower hashtag so maybe appeals are happening elsewhere.) I will say it seems like a lot more of the donations are coming in from outside of the communities so that's good. But let's not pretend that the response to this disaster isn't totally clouded with the same latent bias and discrimination that caused it in the first place. Okay so not so brief after all. But am I off base with my observations? Am I a lying racist? Honestly if i am, please let me know and how to fix my perspective.

What is some really good but not exspensive auto insurance?
my daddy is with progressive and its really high on him and he is looking for a better and less exspensive auto insurance any suggestions.
Liberals: How many of you actually pay for insurance and have seen your rates skyrocket?
Due to Obamcare? How many of you or your employeers plan on dropping coverage....and paying the fine ($500) because its cheaper....and then once you get sick (pre-existing condition) buying insurance. Do you morons not see this is the EXACT same thing Fannie/Freddie did to the housing market? And that the ENTIRE healthcare industry is going to collapse?
""Already expensive and soaring prices for the US health care, what can be done?""
Many folks just like you living either in Europe or Canada are paying much less in health care than us Americans. It was just a week ago I went to shop for dentist. In four different dentists each dentist give me a different quote, different prices when ALL of the services where the same. Something is wrong in this picture. I came to ask myself are doctors putting their own price tags on their services since they are NOT regulated. This is NOT about Democrat or Republican or any politics, it is a community asset that needs to be provided for the community in affordable prices like anybody else living outside the US. The notion that it is expensive in the US because of better services and top quality medicine is simply a hoax, because ALL MEDICATIONS contain the same ingredients, but different brand names. This is where government NEEDS to step in, and make sure nobody open up a business and put up their own price tags. Pharmacuetical companies may have spent MILLIONS to research and produce medicine but that should NOT all PAID by the consumers. Why should a patient pay for a money that is somehow added to your medical bills and medicine price because of pharmaceuticals research?. When it comes to college tuition and health care, everyone should put politics a side and draw a line between Capitalism and community assets. We elect our officials to provide us, secure us, and work for us, and when folks who only see making profit are more influential and more powerful than our elected officials than something must be done in here. Drugs made by US manufactures are sold to other countries for less than Americans can buy them. If nothing is done in here, I WILL DO SOMETHING, good or bad. Just to get results different than what we have today. Join me.""
Car insurance question?
The other week, my dumb *** relative backed into my parked car. Essentially, he could of saved himself two grand if he bothered to turn and look like he was supposed to. My question and PLEASE only answer with relative/helpful information: If I don't use a rental during the time my vehicle gets repaired, will it lower his costs with his provider? Or will it not matter? I only ask because, though an idiot, is still family (plus his parents are being ******* cause their kid can do no wrong if you know what I mean). So if not using the rental will help with his rates/etc. let me know.""
How can I get medical insurance if I have a history of pancreatitis?
I've never had medical insurance b/c I've never had a reason too. Never had any major sickness before now, never a broken bone and never sprained anything. My pancreas suddenly became inflamed. It wasn't caused by drinking, I hate the stuff! I believe it was caused by smoking. I've had a few episodes of pancreatitis and was hospitalized once in which it cost an arm and a leg. Should have went to the hospital this last time, but I was so scared of the extra costs. Your pancreas is a major organ. You can't live without it. Am I going to just have to grin and bare it and leave a debt to my family when I die?! I tried applying for the discount but I wasn't eligible b/c I don't have a job. I haven't had one in 4 years. What are you to do. No insurance company will accept me due to the medical problems. I'm scared of what I'll be charged, but even more scared of the pancreas killing me.""

Is this insurance company giving me the runaround?
I filed a claim with USAA on September 5th on a hit and run accident in which the police were able to find the person and get his insurance. He called them and said he didn't do it - and I hit him. I called, gave my side of the story and the number of the police who were handling the accident. They always say they will call me back and they don't - so I call them in which they give me another date they will get back to me. They never ONCE have gotten back to me. The policy holder who hit me is now in jail on an unrelated offense and they say they cannot get his statements - duh. They say they will contact the police and get back to me - but they never have. The damage to the car isn't that much - it is $416 (just a headlight) but I cannot afford to pay for it. Putting it through my insurance is dumb because the deductable is $500 - at least I think that is how it works. Could you give me advice on how to deal with USAA? I can't talk to them on the weekends because they say they can't handle my existing claim. I'm getting REALLY frustrated.""

How can I report my neighbors for not having car insurance?
How can I report my neighbors for not having car insurance? My neighbors were both laid off from their jobs about three months ago. Earlier last week one confided in me that they were unable to pay for their car insurance and that they didn't know what they were going to do. I didn't take action then, because they were not working and rarely took their car out. However, the husband recently found employment and he has been driving the car EVERY DAY for the past week. They are nice people and we get along great, so it pains me that I have to do this. Who can I report this to? Should I just call the police station? Car Insurance..6 Points..(read on)?
I got 6 points back in 2009 for speeding with a drink drive ban the same night! I don't need any lectures. I can easily say biggest mistake of my life! I done my time and still paying for it. I done a insurance quote without the 6 points and it was 600, with them it is 1300! (the drink drive ban included in both quotes) It is comming up to the 4 year mark where I can now get them removed from my licence, but I have to still declare it to my insurance even though there not on my licence any more..? (rehabilation offenders act..?) I have changed my ways and I drive very sensibly in low litre cars! Never want a fast car! (I am 23) I just use it for work my annual mileage is around 10k. These 6 points have raised it dramatically! Are there any insurance companies out there where I can only declare it for the 3 or 4 years? Or do I have to even declare it atall insurance companies are asking for 5 years, but they are completely off my licence after 4..I would of thought under the rehabilitation act I served my 4 year sentence now a 3rd party company (the insurer) is asking for 5..? Help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks""

I recently exchanged my Canadian driving license for a full UK license but insurance quotes are so high because most companies only consider that I haven't had my full license for more than a year (in fact I have had a full Canadian license for 8 years). Car Insurance Question (regarding insurance)?
Hello, I have an insurance question. Last December, my wife, 2 y/o daughter, & I were involved in a car accident. The other driver was at fault, this was noted on the police report. She required immediate surgery on her wrist & needs daily physical therapy. Although I have a laywer, car insurance & health insurance, I've had to front enormous amounts of money to cover medical expenses. My health insurance will not reimburse me for expenses. Can I ask my car insurance company to help me out with expenses? They know the other party is at fault (police report says so). I've had to liquidate stocks & savings to make ends meet. I'm now out of money. I was not at fault, yet I'm being punished. Any advice on how to get reimbursed ASAP? My settlement probably will not occur until next July.""

Car insurance in California - most competitive companies?
I'm considering a move from Pennsylvania to California. My existing insurance provider doesn't write policies in California so I would need to change companies. I'm currently paying 919 per year for 2 cars. I would like to find a company that can be competitive with these rates. I'd love to get any feedback from people that live in california regarding companies they recommend and which to avoid. I would probably be living in the east bay of San Francisco. I hate car insurance companies (except my current one which I love) and would like to avoid being totally ripped off. I have 18 years of accident free miles and no moving violations...

Chapter 20: Yellow Roses
pairings: logan/patton (logicality), roman/virgil (prinxiety) words: 2787 warnings: alcohol, sad vibes, maybe swearing; with solemn, you never know (bean edit: there is no swearing! such wonders is this!) summary: logan fray has been running his flower shop, aster’s, for about three years now. he hasn’t run into too much trouble yet—other than the occasional presence of his friend, roman prince, who runs a broadway-themed café across the street—and his life had been relatively quiet for quite some time now. that is, until patton sanders opens up a gift shop next door that prides itself in pun-filled cards. that’s when logan’s life gets a bit…louder.

“yellow roses = associated with the sun and its life-giving warmth; friendship”
~*~
‘It’s quiet. It’s too quiet.
Say something.
It’s quiet, and it’s dark,
and you’re alone, and–’
“Here we are!” Roman announced, flicking on the light switch with his elbow, turning around, and peering over the box he was holding. His bright smile snapped Patton out of his thoughts. “Welcome to my kingdom!”
Logan rolled his eyes. “Where can we situate ourselves?”
“Dinah’s probably sleeping in my room, so boxes can go in the guest room, Buzzed Light-kill,” Roman huffed. He looked over at Virgil and smiled. “You want to help Logan, mi amor? I would do it myself, but–”
“Boxes would snap your noodle arms,” Virgil said smugly. He nodded, grabbing the box out of Roman’s arms. “I’ll take care of it.”
Roman placed a hand on his chest dramatically, his mouth falling into a little ‘o’. “My arms are not noodles! I just– have other important things to do…” He finished lamely as Virgil and Logan made their way to the guest room. ‘Oh well. Mission Failed. We’ll get ‘em next time. Back to the most important issue’.
Roman turned around and smiled kindly at Patton.
“Let’s embark on a grand adventure to the kitchen, shall we?” Roman extended his hand, sweeping into a low bow. “Fulfill our quest for that hot chocolate?”
‘Say something.’ Patton swallowed down a lump in his throat as he stared at Roman’s hand.
“Sure.” Even his own voice sounded small. Weak. He decided it’d be best to not say anything else. He tried not to notice the fall in Roman’s smile. Now you’ve disappointed him. Made him worry about you. Idiot!
“Fantastic!” Roman said, almost without missing a beat. He straightened himself up once more and took Patton’s hand. And Patton did not flinch, no he did not. “Let’s be on our merry way!”
“Please be careful, will you?” Logan’s voice sounded as if it were miles behind them now. It also sounded sad.
“To infinity and beyond!” Roman exclaimed instead, skipping to the kitchen and dragging Patton beside him.
“Why won’t you smile, Patty dearest?”
Patton didn’t know why.
-------------------
The hot chocolate grew cold on the counter.
“I’m not sure standing here is going to help,” Logan offered, rather unhelpfully if Roman could say anything about it. “Are you going to give it to him or not?”
“I will, calm yourself,” Roman muttered, his tapping on the counter speeding up. (He was tapping in 5/4 time, what has he become?)
Logan looked over at Virgil, who was peering through the kitchen window that gave a view into the living room. Following his gaze, he noticed Patton was still sitting on the couch Roman had left him on, staring wordlessly at The Tigger Movie on the TV. He peered back at the hot chocolate. “It’s gone rather cold, too.”
“I just don’t know what to do.” Roman continued to tap his finger on the counter, pointedly ignoring Logan at this point, since he’s hardly getting to the point. Out of principle.
“He’s never not bounced to ‘Round My Family Tree’ before,” Virgil noted, continuing to stare at Patton with a certain kind of astonishment. Logan sighed.
“Well one of us is going to have to do something,” Logan stated. “We can’t just leave him there alone for a lengthened period of time.” A pause. More quietly, Logan adds, “He’s done that enough.”
Roman glared at him. The tapping intensified. “I’m doing everything I can, Logan.”
“He’s just...staring at it.” Virgil spoke even quieter now.
“We can’t just continue to do nothing,” Logan pointed out once more. “Someone needs to talk to him.”
“Why don’t you do it, Pointdexter?” Roman hissed. “He clearly won’t want to talk to any of us. I’m sure you can Fix-it...Felix.”
Logan looked at him incredulously. “Pardon?”
“Junior,” Virgil quipped lightly. A beat of silence before the joke finally registered, by the look of faint disgust on Logan’s face.
“Ah, I see.” Logan pushed up his glasses. “I suppose I was mistaken beforehand. Someone needs to talk to him other than Roman.”
“I’m trying to help!” Roman protested. “I started the conversation, I made him hot chocolate–”
“That you haven’t given him,” Logan interrupted.
“I put on some Disney," Roman soldiered on, ignoring Logan’s point. “Like, come on! This is the formula to a happy-pappy Patton!”
“Guys,” Virgil finally said, a bit more firmly this time. He spun around on his heel and faced Logan and Roman, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Look, how about Logan, you just bring the hot chocolate to the kitchen and sit with Patton until we’re there. You don’t have to talk to him, at least just watch the movie with him. Okay?”
Logan looked over at Patton, who was now hugging a pillow to his chest with the same, blank stare at the TV. He sighed, but nodded anyway, grabbing the hot chocolate and making his way to the living room.
When he was gone, Roman glared at Virgil.
“What gives?” he hissed quietly. “You told me I was doing great! This is me...doing great!”
“Yeah, at a distraction,” Virgil said, nervously looking over at the living room as he watched Logan take a seat beside Patton. He shook his head. “Though I’m starting to think we’re running out of distractions.”
“No doi!” Roman said, almost exasperated. “That’s the issue, Christopher Rob-him...of…” A pause. Roman scrunched his face up in frustration. “Look, all my brain power is going towards solutions,” Roman rambled. “Don’t give me problems, give me solutions, Christopher Rob-him-of-solutions! Him being...him being– being me!” He pointed wildly at Virgil and triumphantly blurted out, “A-ha!”
Silence. Virgil rolled his eyes.
“Wow.” Virgil shook his head. “My point is that…” He took a deep breath. “I’m starting to think that maybe distracting him so that he can be temporarily happy isn’t what he needs right now.”
“I don’t want to see him sad either!” Roman protested.
“Well, none of us do,” Virgil shot back. “But maybe we need to push that aside for him. He needs to be sad; the one thing we can give him right now is some company to be...sad in.”
Roman said nothing. Virgil sighed, looking over at Patton, who was now crying into Logan’s shoulder. The movie had been long forgotten.
“It’s hard seeing him like this,” Virgil said quietly. “It’s harder knowing that he was hurting. I was standing right in front of the person who hurt him and I did nothing.”
Roman’s face softened. “There was nothing else you can do, mi pequeño rayo. You said what you wanted to say.”
“Not everything,” Virgil muttered. “There was loads I could’ve said. Maybe more I could’ve done there too.” He averted his glance from Roman. “I wanted nothing more than to rip her to shreds for ever making Patton feel like...like this.”
Roman took a step closer to Virgil. “I know.”
“He doesn’t deserve it.” Virgil’s voice trembled. “It’s a horrible feeling– to know you’ve done so much to make something work. Realizing that what you’ve had for so long wasn’t even love to begin with– it’s a horrible, horrible feeling.”
“I know.” The words slip out before Roman could stop it. Virgil looked at him with wide eyes and Roman blinked.
What was he doing? Roman’s thoughts raced. He needed to be whatever they need right now; why was he not doing that?
He needed to be their hero.
Not this.  Not now.
Roman tugged at the hem of his sleeve.
“Maybe you’re right,” Roman finally said. He straightened. “He needs not to be saved — but supported.” He smiled. “I can do that.”
Virgil frowned. “We can do that. Okay?”
Silence.
“Of course, love,” Roman stated simply.
And with that, Roman tapped Virgil’s cheek softly before heading to the living room to accompany Patton. Virgil watched him as he left.
He couldn’t help but stare at Roman’s arm, the scene of him tugging down at his sleeve lingering in his head.
“I know.”
Virgil bit the inside of his lip. It’s a horrible, horrible feeling.
-------------------
When Logan sat down beside Patton, all Patton could hear in his head was “say something.”
“I, um–” Logan cleared his throat, presenting Patton with a soft blue, tartan patterned mug with angel wings on it. “Roman made you hot chocolate. Marshmallows and all.” He frowned. “Though I am afraid it is rather cold now. And the marshmallows have melted.”
A pause, before Logan promptly offered a small smile, holding the cup a little more towards Patton, who just stared at it.
“Why can’t you grateful for once?!”
“Thanks,” he said softly, taking the cup and holding it on his lap. Logan nodded, and the two fell into silence once more. Patton watched as Logan took a glance at the TV. ‘Fill the silence, fool!’
“I simply do not understand the premise of this movie,” Logan finally said, clearing his throat. Patton could see the haze of orange and black reflected onto his glasses. “Why are all the characters wearing those...costumes? I am almost certain that Winnie the Pooh does not look like that.”
Patton forced a quiet laugh.
“They’re trying to make Tigger happy,” he responded softly. He tried to ignore the way Logan looked back at him (stupid, stupid, stupid) and instead fixed his stare on the movie.
“Patton,” he heard Logan say quietly. “I– we are here for you. You are...you are aware of that, yes?”
Patton felt numb at the words. He shouldn’t need to be taken care of.
“I don’t know how I never...how I never saw it, you know?” Patton’s voice barely broke above a whisper. He can’t help but laugh, despite it sounding so broken. “I’m a bit silly, aren’t I?”
“Patton,” Logan said, almost sternly. He placed a hand on his knee, and Patton tensed up at the sudden contact. “You are not at fault for this.”
Patton said nothing.
“Now, you’re not going to cry, are you, Patty?”
“It doesn’t really matter.” He bit his lip. “It doesn’t matter anymore because– because it’s over, isn’t it?”
“Pat…”
“I messed everything up, even if– even if you think I didn’t.” Logan’s heart broke at Patton’s feeble attempts of breaking into some kind of an optimistic smile. “And now I lost...well, everything.”
“Falsehood. We have at least four boxes full of your things. Furthermore–” Logan added gently– “you are here.” Safe.
“Doesn’t make me any less lost,” Patton replied, his voice breaking. He swallowed down a sob when Logan didn’t respond.
“Lo,” he murmured, his voice suddenly smaller.
“Yes, Patton?”
A pause.
“What if that was it?” Patton finally asked. Before Logan could cut in, Patton continued. “What if she was all I had?” He looked at Logan with wide, teary eyes. “What if she was my soulmate?”
Logan frowned. Silence filled the room for a few seconds as Patton’s question lingered in the air.
“Patton,” Logan decided to say, “I am not in the business of believing that such errant frivolities such as soulmates exist.”
Patton bit back a sob.
“So I’m alone.” He broke into a laugh; this one more strained than before. “I’m sorry, Logan. I just...I don’t think that helps. Not now, at least.”
“No, the intention of my statement was not to make you...upset.” Logan cleared his throat. “It is a mere belief of mine, I think.” He took a deep breath. “I do not believe soulmates exist because it is preposterous to believe that there is one person for everyone. There are simply just...the right people. That is why people are able to be happy, alone or with significant others — their existences are not dependent on another being, nor are they incomplete until they find that person.”
He sighed. “There are just the right people, Patton; people who improve you and allow themselves to grow alongside you.” Patton averted his glance from him and Logan added, more hesitantly, “The universe is too intelligent as to not have another plan for you. It is…ineffable.”
Silence.
“Thank you, Logan,” Patton said his voice numb; “but you are wrong.”
Logan found himself speechless. Patton continue to force his stare away from Logan in the hopes of hiding the tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Y-You’re wrong,” he said again, “because I couldn’t change.”
“Patton–” Logan sputtered out.
“It’s true, okay?” Patton felt himself shake at every word. “I couldn’t change– who’s to say I could change for anyone else? Who’s to say that I’ll be able to change for the right person too?” Pathetic, you’re being pathetic, stop stop stop stop.
“Patton–”
“God, where am I even going to go?”
“I’m not wrong.” Logan huffed. “You’ll stay with…me, I suppose. If you’re amenable– ah, willing.”
“And then what?” Patton cried, exasperated. Logan’s mouth snapped closed. “Logan, what if I wait and wait and wait and then realize too late that she was my last chance?”
Patton bit his lip, tears blurring his vision.
“I-I’m just so scared.” He can’t stop the sob from escaping. “Logan, what if I can’t live without her?”
And that was the breaking point.
Logan’s body structure tensed, yet his walls crumbled; as Patton collapsed onto his shoulder and began to cry. He could feel the tears stain his shirt and it took all of his will power not to cry with him.
He instead took Patton’s wrist and felt for his pulse, making an affirming noise.
“As I thought.” Patton looked up at him, sniffling.
“What?”
“Place your hand over your heart.”
“Why?” Logan sighed at Patton’s blank stare.
“Just do it.”
Patton slowly did as Logan said.“What…” He looked confused. Logan looked at him softly.
“Do you feel your heartbeat? It’s steady.”
“I don’t understand–”
“You’re living,” Logan interrupted. “You are alive, and she’s not here.” Patton sniffled a bit, letting out a strangled half-laugh. Logan’s heart fluttered with the small victory.
“It’s not the same, really. But thanks.” Patton said softly, leaning back against Logan.
Logan’s mind raced for how to respond or if it would be too much, but was saved by Roman resting his head against Patton, wrapping him into a hug. Virgil soon came to sit beside Roman, reaching to hold Patton’s hand.
No one said anything as the movie faded out of their attention.
And it was quiet.
-------------------
The morning came and went without any of them noticing it. Logan—who just watched as the little group that surrounded Patton drifted off to sleep as the night passed him—came to terms with the fact that he would just not be going to work. He could afford one day, after all.
He took the liberty of texting Thomas on Roman’s phone that Roman would not be at work; and every now and then Dinah would make her way into the living room, jumping onto the space beside Logan. She was a gorgeous cat, Logan noted — though by the looks of how Patton’s sniffles turned into sneezes in his sleep, she probably couldn’t stay for that long.
As he continued his mindless thoughts, a dull headache beginning to build up—‘Never again, I’m never drinking again’—he felt his phone buzz twice beside him.
Careful not to wake anyone up, he slowly reached over for his phone and pulled it towards him. Without really looking at the sender, he slid open the first new message.
From: Jen | 7:01 am
Hey, sorry for how long this took. But good news! Turns out ur still smart as heck and the flower TOTALLY WORKED. Obviously not magic, but still pretty close! :D :D Let’s grab some coffee soon and talk, nerd <3
Logan smiled half-heartedly on the screen. He had forgotten to update Jen about the state of his little ‘project’ and wasted her time, god, why does he just do everything wrong?.
Beside him, he suddenly heard the faint sound of Patton’s steady breathing, turning to see Roman’s head slowly drop against his chest. Virgil’s hand was still tightly locked around Patton’s.
And Patton was quiet.  And Patton looked...at peace.
If there is anyone who is smart, he typed back, it would be you. It is a complete wonder that you figured it out, and I look forward to meeting with you for said coffee in order to learn your method of how you did so. What day works for you?
He pressed send without thinking about it too hard; it’s time, after all, to change.
And as the golden sun poured through Roman’s curtains, a new thought filled Logan’s mind
as he drifted off to sleep.
You’re going to have to read the other text eventually, you know.
