since 1976 (before a new hope movie even premiered!) hundreds if not thousands of star wars books, movies, comics, tv shows, video games, and various other media have formed a complex web of star wars lore. it has all built on itself, within certain guidelines and with limited supervision from lucas and the story group. there's deep cultural penetration of these established heroes and philosophy, reaching hundreds of millions of people. 'star wars' has thus been a massive cultural project over the last half century, and the result of all those thousands of hands participating in its creation is a vast and complex ecosystem of interrelated stories. there's a legitimate reason that new fans find it intimidating to interact with this amount of content, and why disney wiped the slate clean, but the scale can also be an exciting invitation to dig in and dive deep, like there's enough data points about the fall of the galactic republic and rise of the empire that you can develop a rich quasi-historical understanding of the narrative context for the stories told. it's a whole mythic world setting, like a kind of trojan war, a familiar and heightened realm in the pastpresent where heroes tread, except set in a fantasyfuture. all of the characters have so much story inside them, filling them out, and the line between the official lore and the lore generated by an entire movement of fans motivated by their love for the galaxy is not as large as one might think. it's all part of the same cultural phenomenon. it's such a rich environment for transformative media, an author can tug on so many threads that have such meaning for so many people, weaving it all together into something new, in a beautiful and broad conversation among all kinds of people. it feels like a privilege to me to participate in that conversation, adding my own voice and perspective to something so many people know and love, and making it gayer <3

Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Makes seeing any other media where it's all about just wanting the Joker dead is a teeny bit frustrating. to be honest

Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony
