I mentioned in a different post something about lila, but I'm going to talk about her here, because I want to. I'm going to be talking about a couple of things, so I'll put a cut.

I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me, but I honestly think that Lila should have magic.

Hear me out here:

1. I think it kind of makes sense. She was able to convince Max, a literal genius kid who made a fucking learning, talking AI/robot. He should've at least known about the napkin thing and that would've disproved it. And I know that a lot of it has to do with inconsistent characterization.

2. I think it would explain a lot of things that Lila has done, as well as the behavior of the class and Alya's willingness to just believe her despite being a reporter who told Marinette that she needed proof. And, if the writers did it right, they could do it in a good way. Marinette could also have known it was all fake because she saw Lila take the grimoire, and then her exposing Lila as Ladybug snapped Adrien out of it.

3. They could make it something like charm speak. (side note: au, where Lila and Marinette are both daughters of aphrodite so mari sees lila walk into class, is like um. tf are you doing here you trick ass bitch) In a world where magic exists, it wouldn't be that hard to drop a few hints now and then.

4. It would also make a really good segway into, rather than defeating Hawkmoth or during his defeat, Lila convinces Gabriel to give her the Miraculous under the promise that she'll revive his wife. Maybe Gabriel is too weak to continue or something. She doesn't keep her promise, of course, and is the new Hawkmoth. It also honestly might explain why he trusts her so much.

Now, I'm going to talk about what Adrien said. And I know I'm beating a dead horse here (god i really hate that saying but im using it anyway) but I have some issues with it. He said that her lies aren't hurting anyone, and that's not necessarily true.

1. Lila's lies are the kind of thing that, should a reporter get ahold it, would become sensationalized. It could ruin a lot of people's careers. I could be mixing up canon with fanfic here, but she did say that Clara Nightengale got her dance moves from Lila. And she said that Jagged Stone wrote a song about her. Since her mother doesn't know that she's lying, her mother wouldn't know. A grown man writing a song about a teenage girl? Kinda weird, especially if there's seemingly no reason. And I know he did it with Ladybug, but she's a superhero and the song was because she saved him.

2. It would be extremely likely that a reporter could get a hold of it. As far as we know, the class has

Marinette, the daughter of the greatest bakers in Paris

Chloe, the daughter of the mayor

Sabrina, chloe's best friend and the daughter of the police chief (i think that's what he is, lmk if I'm wrong)

Adrien, a model and the son of a famous fashion designer/billionaire.

Alya, the creator of the Ladyblog, which is well-known as the best ladybug/chat noir-focused reporting site in Paris.

Mylene, the daughter of an actor/mime, who is presumably quite well-known

Rose, who knows Prince Ali and, as far as we know, has kept contact with him.

For fuck's sake, Juleka and Luka are Jagged Stone's kids, even if they didn't know it.

This is a class that has multiple famous and/or well-known people, or their kids. In the real world, reporters would follow them everywhere. They would never catch a break. Eventually, some reporter is going to find out, and it will hurt a lot of people.

Lila's lies also hurt the class! She's promised them things that she can't deliver on, and when she doesn't, they're going to get hurt. It's best to rip the bandage off now.

Whitney Houston “I will always love you” made me cry because damnit Tony’s face was right THERE! NOT OK!

The blip footage was pretty damn funny not gonna lie.

Peter’s cute ass plan to tell MJ how he feels.

MJ’s favorite flower being a Black Dalia because of the murder. Literally a girl I can relate too. Murderinos for life sister. Idk but it just made her sooo relatable!

The fact that Brad is a kid grown up from the blip and that made him seem all the weirder for MJ.

Jealous Peter was so freaking amazing! Oh my gosh! That face he’d get. I’m a sucker for jealousy and they did it so good.

Making MJ this awesome character she was before but also obviously has this softer layer where she does have flaws and insecurities and she’s really sweet but also so badass. That was amazing.

The starting relationship between Peter and Beck. It was cute and so I was sad knowing that Beck was somehow going to be the villain.

Also let’s talk about how Beck is basically Syndrom from the incredibles.

That scene with Peter and Brad....the pure terror when he snapped that picture

Also seeing how big of a dick Brad is and how unhealthy jealous he was.

“Nick Fury” getting ghosted, showing up in Venice, tranquilising Ned (don’t touch him you monster) and then promptly highjacking Peters Summer trip.

Showing the emotional trama Peter is going through. The anxiety, the greiving. It was very reminiscent of Iron Man 3 when Tony suffers from PTSD after the battle of New York. I loved that they showed Peter reacting as any kid would, many adults too, which is to just try and forget anything happened but being faced with the reality every day. So well done.

Happy and May’s relationship. Enough said 😂😂

I feel cheated we didn’t see Mr delmore again.

Addressing all the problems the Blip/Snap created. High school aging, school, drinking ages, homelessness and housing issues. That’s just the start of it I’m sure but they covered those pretty well and I love that.

The technology that made Beck into Misterio was so well done. Instead of some frankly, kinda far fetched story that he came from an alternate earth (which I was willing to believe but felt it was a cop out in terms of plot and character) they showed the real world issues that superhero’s can create. The Enemies that have a real deep rooted hatred for hero because they’ve personally been betrayed or wronged by them. Because marvel has always made clear, everyone is not on the hero’s side.

Steeping Misterio’s powers in tech which is classing marvel but again, so brilliantly done in this movie. I loved the development. Because at first glance, half way through, I was thinking “wow this is really kinda weird and unexplained and too witchcraft for what marvel usually brings to the superpower backstory” I know it’s weird to say after everything marvel has done. But it seemed just a tad out there without being too hard to grasp. Which again was brilliantly done because that was the whole point.

The nod to Misterio’s helmet even when Beck was in the hologram suit watching everything play out. I guess it was his screen? But I loved the staple of even without his big over the top suit he still had the trademark helmet. Great costume design.

Peter’s soft gazes towards MJ. Nearly gave me a cavity they were so sweet! Ahhh sooo cute

Mr. Harrington’s marital problems nearly made me pee my pants....we all knew here in the fandom that shit like that would half to happen but my god lol

The opera scene was sooo freakin cute and that one step Peter took when he saw Brad move in was so freaking cute and hot!

MJ running after him and finding the critical peice of information to crack the case wide open. Loved it.

Betty and Ned’s Sicily sweet romance that you knew couldn’t possibly last. They really nailed the realistic high school romance. But I still ship it.

The bus scene was epic. And when Peter knocked Flash out...god it was amazing.

Mj obviously having love eyes towards Peter same as he does for her.

THE FACT THAT HE ACTUALLY BOUGHT THAT NECKLACE FOR HER OH MY GOD! I CANT GET A GUY TO TEXT ME BACJ LET ALONE BUY A NECKLACE LIKE THAT WHICH PROBABALY COST A GOOD CHUNK OF CHANGE IT WAS SO FREAKING AMAZING AND CUTE AND TOUCHING.

The fact that she was so pleased with herself but also played it hella cool when Ned walked in and she said she figured it out. Literally that is me.

The shirtless Peter trope that we all wanted and freaking got! So freaking cute how she tried to peak at his abs. Like understandable girl.

The fucking illusions. Turning our sweet trusting Peter into a ball of mess. I was too.

God when he had to tell himself it wasn’t real but it still totally feels like it is.

Him trying to save MJ when she’s “thrown off the Eiffel Tower”

Every traumatizing thing Beck shows and tells him during the illusion. So shitty.

Seeing Tony’s grave, seeing iron man come out. That was awful and we all felt it in the movie because we’ve lost him too. We could FEEL that slap same as Peter.

Beck telling Peter that Tony’s death was his fault. I was abouta hurl myself at the movie screen.

Every illusion done in a way that just when you think it’s over, it’s never stopped. You forget what’s real and you feel trapped in it same as Peter does.

WHEN HE GETS HIT BY THE TRAIN!!!!!!!!!! Nearly had a damn heart attack!!!! My mom had to look over and ask if I was ok because I literally stopped breathing for a solid 30 seconds.

Also where the hell was Karen? We missed her. We got Edith but Karen wouldn’t have let Misterio take her over. WHERE WAS KAREN!!

Happy and Peter opening up to each other was so awesome considering their relationship in Homecoming.

ALL THE TONY and PETER PARRELLS! All of them!!!!!!!!! Not the people saying “Spider-Man’s the next Ironman” no the actual hints and glimpses at how similar him and tony actually are. The hologram gauntlet shot, a straight parallel to Iron Man when Tony is building his first real suit. Obviously “Back in Black” by Led Zeplen (formally known as AC/DC) playing. Another obvious hint toward Tony. The Stark sunglasses. Peter falling with the parachute and it literally looks like Ironman with his jet stream behind him from a distance. There’s so much more I’ll do a whole other post on.

Of course: “I love Led Zeplin!” Hahaha it’s such a kid thing to say! I’ve said it before I knew the big differences between AC/DC and Led Zeplin. It was so freaking perfect.

Important. His amazing skills at the end trusting his instincts (which is great because May says in regards to MJ, but it applies to this too) May tells Peter to trust his instincts and don’t think too much. And that’s what he does when he defeats Beck.

The bad ass “you can’t fool me anymore” after redirecting the gun away from his head at the end. Literally was so intense and well done.

Peter and MJ’s kisses! I loved how awkward it was at first and the slightly less awkward one. They really accurately captured the awkwardness of teenagers in love. Like that’s what it’s like guys.

kiribaku miraculous ladybug au where baku and kiri magically become red riot and ground zero. this is the first year baku’s overprotective parents let him go to school and he’s so ... angry but he’s learned how to be quietly destructive about it. his parents are fashion designers, he’s a model. they don’t stand for anything less. as ground zero, magical hero, he gets to channel that anger for good, to be loud and himself, to be strong! bakugou is just a kid who can’t deal with people or his anger or - well, anything

red riot is loud and brave, everything the real kiri isn’t. kiri is painfully shy, completely ordinary, doesn’t have a single real friend in class but - god it feels so good to be red riot. he almost gives in after his first mission, where he fails to capture the akuma, but he manages to power through. he promises that he’ll do one red riot-like thing a day, as kiri, to help himself become a hero. he’ll save ppl

on the second day of class, the day after he saves paris or whatever, bakugou katsuki comes crashing in, late, refuses the seat next to childhood friend deku in the first row and slouches back to sit next to kiri in the back row

at lunch, kiri takes a chance, sits across from bakugou, who warns him to leave, but. kiri is gonna be a hero so he musters up his courage and says “well you’re gonna have to sit next to me this whole year, so you better get used to it now” and before even a few months go by, they’re best friends. bakugou sometimes refuses to admit it, but they are.

doesn’t help matters that kiri is in lov wit him. his ONLY FRIEND. god, how... pathetic and also typical of him. but ground zero is in love with red riot. he’s not overt about it, like chat noir, but maybe after a year of working together, partners, practically best friends, he catches red riot’s wrist before he transforms. “we’re partners,” he says slowly, “you know that, right?” right, kiri says. he can only think about how much time he has left. “we could be - partners outside of the mask, too.”

“I cant,” Kiri says, even if - god, he wants to. wants to pretend he could always be like this. “You wouldn’t like me outside of the mask. He’s - im a coward.”

“Don’t talk about him like that,” ground zero says harshly. “I like all of you. i’d like him too.”

“you wouldn’t,” kiri says and maybe if that were all, he could be convinced, but there’s his best friend bakugou to think about. “i’m a fucking coward and there’s - there’s only one person who makes me feel like i’m not, outside of the mask, and-” because bakugou does make him feel strong.

ground zero drops his wrist. “oh.” he doesn’t say anything more. they still work together fine. but sometimes kiri catches him thinking, eyes narrowed.

and then in the fucking oblivio episode, they detransform, completely amnesia’d. they assume they’re together because they have so many photos of each other on their phone! bakugou has 50 red riot pictures that he’d deny were there, it he didn’t have amnesia. they joke, they jest. they’re cute and shy, teasing each other, because they know they’re together, totally in love, and how silly it is that they don’t remember!!! they’re a superhero team, partners at battle and in life. they beat the villain, together, they always do

“one for the road?” red riot asks, angling ground zero’s chin towards him. ground zero leans down and kisses him, totally and completely

only this time, their lucky charm doesn’t reset their memories. when the magic is over, red riot completely remembers that the hands holding his, ground zero’s hands, are the hands of his best friend bakugou katsuki. in a weird way, he’s ecstatic. bakugou LIKES who kiri always wanted to be! bakugou... isn’t sure how to feel. kiri - red riot - likes the other him? the him that bakugou hates being? the one with anger issues, the one that’s cruel, the one that - well, after a year of being a hero, bakugou knows the real him is completely unheroic.

that’s not it at all, of course - kiri fell in love with the parts of ground zero that shine through. they’ve always been there in bakugou

How Horikoshi treats his female characters (Feat. How his ‘Fans’ treat him): A Rant

Something that has recently been popping up a lot in the BNHA tags, for me at least, is this idea that Hori is a “Lazy/Bad Writer”. It’s a topic that’s genuinely interesting to me and I would love to discuss it! After the reaction i got to my last post on discussing the fandom, i feel like this is a really fun topic for me to look into and i love having an open discussion with people. So just to let you know before we start, everything here is my opinion - feel free to respond with your own thoughts and i’d happily have a conversation with you about anything and everything! If you disagree with me then that's fine, if you agree with me then that's fine too! I'm just a person with a keyboard and an opinion and so are you! :)

So today i would love to discuss how people treat Hori in regards to his female characters and i hope you enjoy this 1500 word essay/ramble i did. (PS if you came from my last lil essay then this one is a lot less sarcastic because its a more serious topic and i don’t want to come across as too rude also i actually got sleep today)

Now, this was actually the first topic I came across when looking into the Hori tags. At first, I was on board with the general theme of what was happening. I saw some lovely artwork of Momo where people had redesigned her costume, they were very creative in how they did it and overall, I had no complaints – if the whole topic of this tag was about how people wanted to be creative and redraw characters in their own design then I’d 100% support it, but the more you look into it, the more…. Nasty is gets.

So, the overall theme of what I gathered from this little tag is that idea that Hori is some sort of [Word I really don’t want to type out but im sure you can guess what it is] because of how he draws his females, most of which are underage. So if you, as a consumer, are, well, consuming something, such as a TV show, film, anime, Manga etc. and you see something that makes you go “This is disgusting – I need to write a Tumblr post about this to warn other people about what's happening here” then I fully support you – please keep on doing what you’re doing.��

However, this isn’t what I see, what I see are posts going “F*CK HORI HE’S A [Nasty word] AND I HOPE HE D*ES – HERE EVERYONE I MADE AN ANTI FLAG, SHARE IT EVERYWHERE AND LET ME KNOW WHERE I CAN SEND MY D*ATH THR*AT TO” Meanwhile, when you go on this same persons page it’s all reposts of the characters and screenshots of the show, posts of them saying “Yo did you guys see the new BNHA episode last night?!?” and overall just very fandom-y stuff. I truly cannot comprehend this type of behaviour – you are so set in this belief that Hori is a [Nasty Word] and yet here you are, on the very same blog you use to slander his name, actively supporting him! Listen, if one of you Anti’s were to sit there and say “I wholeheartedly think Hori is a [Nasty word] and therefore I am no longer going to participate in this fandom or with supporting his creations” then, while I don’t agree with you, I support you in your decision as you have made a clear stance on something with both your words and your actions and I can truly respect that, and hell you would actually get my attention and I might read into what it is you’re talking about. I’m not, however, going to waste my time reading a piece of material written by someone who does all that nasty stuff I previously mentioned and take any of what they say seriously. Let me put it this way; you think Hori is a [Nasty word], you are supporting the show, you are therefore supporting a [nasty word], so why should I take anything you say seriously? I don’t want to see any more of this ‘One minute we love him, one minute we hate him’ attitude because when you hate him the things you are saying are some of the worst things you could possibly say to another person and its childish, disgusting and you’re giving this fandom a bad name.

Now back to the girls, I personally do find certain characters outfits a little distasteful, especially with how they’re done in the anime and how they zoom in on certain body parts, i also dislike how it’s ‘funny’ for characters like Mineta to get away with such disgusting behaviour. I do think that’s the biggest flaw I can find in this show – I don’t however 100% blame Hori for this. Now obviously at the end of the day, it is down to Hori what happens in his show, but can we all stop pretending that it’s just him that does this? When I think of anime the first thing that comes to mind is anime girls and their… attributes. It’s an industry issue and Hori is one of many people that partakes in it – so im not saying he’s not to blame, im just saying some of you are a little dramatic and need to realise if you truly want this behaviour to stop then you need to go after the industry and not just one guy.

Now this next point I want to make is something im sure might be a little confusing for most of you and something I can 100% see the other side of better than some other points ive made. It’s also kinda hard for me to put into words so please bear with me here.

I don’t think its necessary for Hori to develop his female characters as much as their male counterparts – now im sure that’s an odd concept but let me explain. As a child growing up in the age of great TV shows such as Hannah Montana, iCarly, Wizards of Waverly Place etc. I think ive spent a fair amount of time watching TV, my personal favourites as a child were Winx Club, BRATZ and W.I.T.C.H (Im from the UK so apologies if you have no idea what they are). Now all of these shows were ‘for girls’, they all revolve around a group of girls and their adventures in their respective worlds, they learn things along the way, because, even if you don’t realise it, these kids shows have hidden messages in them that are like ‘we should be kind’ ‘we should treat others with respect’ and all that jazz you need to know to be a decent human being. However, the one thing that these shows always lacked was any form of male presence. Now im not saying these shows had no males in them, that would be weird, but what I am saying is that the males in these shows were very one dimensional and they were always the love interest of one of the characters, or you might get the odd parental figure that would show up for one episode to be a motivation for a character. However with BNHA, a show that is specifically aimed at teenage boys, I don’t feel like they do such a disservice to females (AKA the ‘men’ equivalent of my other shows), sure they’re not treated great in certain aspects that I've already discussed, but look at their actual characters, Uraraka is the main girl, sure she very much has the same role as many of the men did in my childhood shows of the ‘love interest’ but her character is more than that and we see it in the sports festival as well as some of the more recent chapters (213-215 to be specific). Her character isn't just some airhead and neither are the other girls, Momo is literally top of the class in terms of written ability and she had her own little mini-arc around gaining confidence (which is still ongoing because guess what – people don’t change overnight), Mina has had some spotlight on her and is seen to be a very confident and skilled fighter, Tsu was literally described as the ‘perfect student with no flaws’ and is shown to be a badass on multiple occasions, Midoriya’s mum is even a character that’s had some form of arc with her learning to believe in her son and she's not some faceless character we hear about every so often when they need a plot device.

Now im not saying the female representation is perfect and it’s certainly not 100% equal to that of the men, but im saying it doesn’t need to be. This is a show for boys, sure girls can watch and enjoy it, but its made for boys in the same way my shows were made for girls, and the average boy isn’t going to want to watch a bunch of fairy princesses run around saving their fluffy little pets like I did (im sure a some of them will – and good for them, in the same way that some girls might want to watch superhero films, it’s not something im saying is bad, its just most people raise children into predetermined stereotypes of what gender roles they should fill and the media caters to that).

So what im saying is that taking a show aimed at boys and comparing it to shows aimed at girls and how each handles the opposite sex (we’re not going into gender here, that’s a whole other topic of diversity), I don’t think BNHA is all that bad. I guess if I want to be a little harsher in my approach, why is it okay to have a near-all female cast and not a near-all male cast? I understand a need for diversity, truly I do, but sometimes having a token character for each ‘type’ of person takes away from what the show is actually trying to convey – and in BNHAs case I think its trying to teach young boys that it’s okay to be emotional or vulnerable when you’re in situations that other shows teach you to ‘man up’ in. Not every show can solve racism, sexism and homophobia, I’m sorry to break it to you, but some shows are a little more basic in their approach to what it is they want to show and I think BNHA is a perfect example of that, it’s showing boys that you can cry, you can go through struggles in life, you can even come back from being a terrible person through growth and development, and I think that’s something boys need. A lot of people in this day and age want men to change (and I agree that there are a lot of things all groups of people can work on) and BNHA is showing boys how to grow up in a way that’s not this ‘tough guy that has no feelings’ and at the end of the day isn’t that something we want?

I do believe there are areas that BNHA really needs to improve in when it comes to it’s female cast, but can we stop with this awful hate? This fandom had such potential to be an amazing community of people who are skilled with art, writing, storytelling, cosplay, etc. but it seems like half of you just want to tear each other down and it’s sad to see such potential wasted because you can’t handle someone having a different opinion or view to you.

Yo-Yo Competition

“Girl your doing this and if you try not to I’m showing Adrien our text history!”

Alya was a lot of things and one of those is stubborn, you don’t question her because she was going to do it and she was going to love doing it too. So here was Marinette with a spotted yoyo in her hand as this was for some reason a part of the competition to get an internship and more importantly tour from Adrien Agreste of the Agreste design studio! It was pretty clear she was going to win at this point in the competition, the crowds eyes were on her and with every twirl of the yoyo and flick of her wrist there was many coos and even the occasional clap for certain tricks.

“Congratulation to Marinette! For her amazing skills that might be able to rival that of Ladybug herself!”

Wow Adriends voice was amazing and he he, he just said her name!!!! Oh Adrien! Oh now he's grabbing my hand and oh oh no stairs! Ok left foot right foot left right. I did and his hand is so soft!

“You know you had me fooled Marinette I honestly thought you were Ladybug where did you learn all those tricks?”

“Oh haha I guess I just am a quick learner! I was mainly using online videos for the last week Ha ha!”

He couldn’t shake it though, she used tricks only Ladybug used, he would know he tried to search for them. But hey he could always try and get it out of her during the tour. He was just going to have to let a little of his Chat shine through.

Chapter 2 -

She had his number! She had Adrien Agreste as a contact in her phone! Not only that but they were texting. Long since about the arrangements for the internship which for something to do with climbing up the ladder it fell on Adrien to arrange, but now it was who was there favorite Chat or Ladybug or the infamous cat v.s. dog debate. Which she was happy to note they both agreed on, that last one though was quite a lengthy argument that ended at fine our least favorite is Hawkmoth. Although that entered into a new argument where she tiptoed over mentioning kwamis the entire time. After a while talking to him felt, natural.

So when they arrived at school it was only natural they talk to each other since they were there before Alya or Nino. It just so happened that they didn’t notice the aforementioned people walk into the classroom until they were forced out of their conversation by a very angry Miss Bustier.

“Now what is so important that I can hear you talking yet you won’t respond to your names?”

“Sorry madam!” Two voices said at the same time. Yet they sent emails on their tablets through class partially to be stubborn but all just because it was fun. Marinette even sent a joke to Adrien ‘Hey being a rebel is part of the school experience’ It wasn’t much so she was surprised when he started dying in front of her, a few seconds after the read box checked on the email. It was very cute though and she may or may not have fallen for him again…

Lunch went mostly the same a bit more Alya and Nino though. Once she got home while Adrien was unable to text for a few hours due to a photoshoot and, while it hurt her a bit she destroyed the calendar with Adriene's’ schedule, updated her computer background, and brought down all the picture of him except for those that contained an interesting design or more than just him. There, she had to keep a bit more of a professional relationship with Adrien, well at least a more normal one. Besides he said he wanted to come to her house sometime a ‘trade’ for her seeing his home as a part of the tour since they were close.

“Im proud of you Marinette this is going towards something real Im sure!”

“Thanks Tikki!”

She then managed to finish her homework rather quickly and started sketching out possible designs to show Mr. Agreste for the internship as she was advised by Adrien. She was actually getting somewhere and managed to ignore the first 3 notifications from her phone until Tikki gasped as she was reading them what could be that important Tikki? Oh oh Adrien just sent her a picture and omg! It was from the photoshoot and why did it have to be spring aka a models summer, which meant swimsuits.

“Why does he have to do this to me Tikki?”

“I don’t know Marinette”

Ok you’ve got this Marinette you can respond in a normal fashion. He said ‘help I don’t know how I can look this happy in the picture I feel miserable’ ok so start ‘that sucks :( but hey’ uhh, ‘at least tell me the swimsuit is comfortable!’ alright send! And there went another evening until Tikki told her there was an akuma. Why did this always happen at the worst of times. ‘Have to go akuma, and making sure Alya doesn’t get hurt you know!’ ‘Yeah ttyl, I used that correctly right!’ That that is just adorable!

Soon enough the akuma is done with, just a small one this time. She did have to bring Alya out of the cross fire twice so she didn’t really lie to Adrien. God she wanted to just go and talk to him but first Chat. Who from just looking at him she knew he was going to be especially flirty, great..

“My lady! Is your ego intact I heard someone may have out done you at a yoyo competition?”

“Oh no Chat Noir I was in that competition that was terrible!” She fake fainted nearly knocking over Chat as she did so. “Oh my I should go get Marinette to be my new lady!”

“Now then what about my little kitten?”

“Oh then I best not, but if you two switch Im sure I wouldn’t notice the difference!”

That got a big laugh from her and and only served to prove his theory, he was going to need more solid evidence but this was progress!

“Well before you have a chance to exchange us I’m going to bounce kitty!”

When she landed on her bed she gave Tikki a few different treats as she sent a simple ‘Im back <3’ text to Adrien of course not thinking twice about that little emoticon on the end. Except that was exactly what Adrien wanted well twice over, the heart of ladybug but better to have Marinette's guard down. Then she would be more likely to just tell him that she was in fact more than a princesses but a lady.

Chapter 3-

She was awoken to the sound of a text notification it had been happening more in more as Adrien seemed to be an early bird or at least Nathalie was so she often got morning texts from him. This one was special though not the text but the morning. His text reflected this reading, you ready for the big day?!? The texts were a bit shorter as both of them were getting extra dressed up. Soon enough a limo was there to pick her up, really only because of Adrien but no one needed to know that.

Then she was there, at the Agreste office the sign so big and beautiful over her. She must have been oggling as Adrien started pulling her in.

“Isn’t it more impressive when your on the sign, you always choose that route.”

She was so preoccupied with her aw and nerves she let comment pass, this only proved his theory he mentioned that sort of thing to others no matter their state they ALWAYS commented on it. He was going to enjoy playing a game on his lady. Maybe it was a bit harsh but hey she needed a little spice in her life. Although he did feel Plagg smacking him probably, definitely in disapproval.

They went on him commenting on fabrics and using us, you, our, and me instead of the names of Paris’ heros. She started commenting back, only getting mad talking of how careful the masks must be to protect identities. The such that she always seemed to say, except she had hesitation and anger at the same time.

He regretted it, he could see it in her eyes. The pain the disbelief how much it was killing her to know who it was and that he broke the rule. He was sorry he was so so sorry now. But he knew her and she was not going to just forgive him. Yeah it was safe to say he had fucked up.

Over the next week he helped he talked to her as a friend worked overtime on patrol and left her gifts. He even mentioned it a few times mostly in notes so no one would be the wiser. She came out again, and to his surprise was rather flirty. The days turned to weeks and soon enough something blossomed.

“You know work relationships are frowned upon, my dad would be livid!”

“Well we never said it, I don’t know who my kitty is so since superheros have no boss I think this is ok.”

“Cat (Can’t) deny that my purrincess.”

“Hmph don’t give me hint kitten then we don’t have an excuse.”

Yeah he had fixed it now he just had to control the urge to kiss Marinette whenever she wasn’t in ‘uniform’.

This is embarrassing...

When I was young-er, I made this character up, her name was Angel A. I guess you can say she was an import art model, i don’t remember that well. I wrote this fake interview with her and her likes & dislikes. Really embarrassing stuff. I only drew her one time and made it look like a polaroid picture. Hannah Watches LoSH - The Substitutes

So, this episode admittedly took longer than anticipated. Classes were a lot harder than anticipated this semester, and i’m trying to make money for next semester so I’m trying to get as many hours at work as possible.

With life’s problems aside for now, let’s resume looking at Legion of Superheroes!

The Substitutes

Kicking this episode off, we see that the Legion Auditions are finally underway. Hooray! And boy is there a line.

Yeesh. It's like an anime convention on opening day.

Going inside, we see that the current judges present are Superman, Saturn Girl, Bouncing Boy, Lightning Lad, and Brainiac 5. There are spots for others, but they aren't there.

Hmm. BOth PG and TW aren't here...

The first kid up is Chlorophyll Kid, and Superman asks him to demonstrate his powers, which is promoting plant growth. However, the plant that does grow is not friendly.

Okay, we KNOW Lightning Lad has been dreading this day for a while now.

But... can we just appreciate the off character model image of him?

PFFT HE HAS ANIMU EYES

After Saturn Girl asks Chlorophyll Kid if he can do anything to stop it and he asks if making it bigger will help, to which the Legion say no, Bouncy uses himself as live bait.

THESE PEOPLE APPRECIATE BOUNCY THE WAY HUNK SHOULD BE.

After Bouncy succeeds in bursting out of the plant to take it down, Brainy walks Chlorophyll Kid out. Who is still optimistic about his chances. Aww.

Up next is Stone Boy – NO NOT THE DRUG STONNED! THE ROCK STONE! He just turns into a stone figure of whatever his current pose is.

Gotta love these dorks.

The funniest part is that Stone Kid is set to the side for most of the remaining auditon, with Color Kid up next.  

Also, not overlooking that triangle rainbow on his uniform.

Very subtle.

And then we get our next contestant.

RUDE.

LIGHTNING LAD, THAT BOY LOVES YOU. GO DOWN THERE AND APOLOGIZE!

Aww, watch the Trash Baby tremble in fear.

What a good person Bouncy is.

However, the demonstration he did is not much better than during our initial introduction to him. Good thing everyone without invulnerability was hiding behind Bouncy. He deserves all the awards.

Following up after Pete is Kem, who now refers to himself as Matter Eater Lad. His demonstration involves eating a bomb, but I want to appreciate the bro-ness between him and Lightning Lad

Bros.

And then after Matter-Eater Lad’s demonstration, we get to see this show’s version of Star Boy.

My skin has been cleared. The next best thing before we get Black Panther next year.

Trash Baby and Karma go hand in hand.

We then see Infectious Lass, who I personally think has one of the coolest designs. Interestingly, she is seen with an inhaler. For her demonstration I think she makes Bouncy catch some kind of flu or something. Not sure.

Fast forward to later at the end of the audition, with the announcement that the new Legionairres are Matter Eater Lad and Star Boy.

So. Rude.

After most of the applicants had dispersed, we are left with Pete, Infectious Lass, Chlorophyll Kid, Color Kid and Stone Boy – still stoned (don't take that out of context). They are all understandably dissapointed they didn't make it in.

However, Bouncing Boy approaches them and tells them that he also failed his first audition – and then via Pete reading off the official collector's edition of the Legion Log – not joking – it took him four tries. Four.

Wow, no wonder he tries helping the applicants to the auditions.

He encourages the rejectees to keep trying, giving them a good speech on being a hero. However, he has to leave with the Legion when trouble is reported.

Touched by Bouncy's speech, the rejects decide to do the Hero-ing to show what they are made of. AWW.

Back with the actual Legion, we see some weird creatures are eating the ionosphere.  

Wait, those monsters are republicans basically.

We finally see Star Boy and Matter Eater Lad in action, the latter who eats one of the monsters... oh boy.

Back at New Metropolis, Pete has taken the Leader position (imitating Lighting Lad-senpai), although his mom has to drive the squad to places (im gonna guess that they don't have their full drivers license yet).

However, most of their efforts don't work out too well.

But then we get one of the best villains on this show.

Star Finger.

THIS GUY. IS SO FRIGGIN EXTRA.

With him showing off his gloves' powers, we see that one finger releases what I will dub Star minion. I know in the show they are called Furries. But that word does not give me positive feelings in the context sense, since the word has a... sexual association to me. So I refuse to call them that here.

Hmm...

The reject squad (I'm sorry im not sure what to call them at this point because they haven't coined the term Substitutes yet even though I know they're called that in the comics), arrive and tell Star Finger he's going to jail.

Oh good, I don't have to feel too bad about calling them Reject Squad for now.

Star Finger manages to give them a good whooping though, and gets away.

Fancy.

But they group finds the minions going in the same direction.

We then return back to the Legion who are still fighting the monsters eating the ionosphere, with PG and TW back with the group. Brainy is unable to figure out where the monsters are coming from, but it's clear they keep coming.

Back on Earth.

HOW COULD YOU JUST LET HIM FLOAT AWAY STAR FINGER.

But that aside, the Reject Squad has managed to track Star Finger, and call up Brainy. But our grouchy robot dismisses them and Star Finger.

Brainy hangs up on them, and Pete confesses on being stuck on what to do next.  But despite that, he and the rest go to confront Star Finger again.

Okay I have questions on how that works.

Nice.

Star Finger gets annoyed that they are back, and ask who they are again, and if he owes them money.

Very accurate.

Their fight with Star Fingers goes much better this time. They still mess up in several ways, but manage to jump back up and use their powers in an effective manner. But Star Finger shoots the star minons at Stone Boy, making him float away.

The scene then cuts back to the Legion, and we get a good scene with Lightning Lad and Superman.

Seeing that the monsters' numbers have increased, Superman calls Brainy to see if there any solutions yet.

And he did!

Oh.

So his solution is a cannon that will polarize the ionosphere to make it inhospitable for anything, but there is a chance that it can incinerate the rest of the atmosphere over the western hemisphere.

Oh boy.

Superman tells him to keep thinking but Brainy states that there's less than an hour less, and given no clear origin, not many options are available.

We then see Stone Boy arrive in space with the Star Minions, and then this happens.

OH BOY.

The commercial cut then happens, and when returning, we finally see some more Legionnaires. HOORAY!

PFFT.

But as soon as the transformed Star Minions let go of him, Stone Boy turns into stone and descends back to earth.

But Brainy exits the ship with the cannon, which is charging. Superman insists there has to be another way, but Brainy says he doesn't have any other options.

Mm.

Returning to the Reject Squad, Star Finger once again has the upper hand on all except Chlorophyll Kid. WHo then proceeds to grow the same plant from the Audition. Which first attacks Star Finger, then turns to the squad.

And then Star Finger incinerates it, saying they should feel honored as he prepares to kill them. Thankfully Stone Boy crashes into the guy just in time, which leaves Star Finger unable to do anything else.

I'm gonna guess Stone Boy is the silent guy.

But he tells the group that the Star Minions are what eating the atmosphere. Unable to reach either the Legion or the SP though, the Squad try removing Star Finger's hand, but it refuses to go.  And when Pete demands to know how to get the glove off, we get one of hte best moments.

Wow.

Just as the cannon Brainy made is at full power, the Squad manages to arrive in Pete's mom's car with Star Finger tied to the hood.

Pfft.

Infectious Lass tells the Legion that it's Star Finger's glove that made the monsters. Brainy is still playing the role of the doubter.

What a grouch.

He removed it with grumpiness.

MY GIRL IS HARDCORE.

Brainy then says it seems the Squad is correct, but when they say they managed to save the world, he says not yet.

What a grump.

The scene cuts back to earth, where the Legion is thanking the Squad, with Brainy admitting they underestimated Star Finger. To which Star Finger says "Of course you did!" As the SP drag him away.

And then Lightning Lad admits they underestimated the rejects as well. And that he hopes to see them at the next audition.

The Squad state that although they are not as power as the individual members, they still make a good team, and they can fill in for the Legion once in a while, which  Bouncing Boy then coins the term "Legion of Substitute Heroes". Which the group likes.Superman replies to by saying they would be honored to work with them again.

What a dork.

So final thoughts on the episode overall and the characters

Okay, so this is both a lighter toned episode and one of the best written ones, and it doesn't even focus on the main cast of the series. I really enjoyed the episode. I also like they don't use the word Substitutes early on.

My only nitpick is the difference between this episode and the audition issue of the show's comic, which focused more on Infectious Lass rather than a group of the rejects, who is very different between the two versions.

We get a better look at the different types of people in this universe, seeing that not all people have boast-worthy powers, but they can still be effective if used in a particular manner. And even if the power is a good concept, execution and limits of that power can impact how effective it is.

I can understand both the reasoning on not picking just anyone in the auditions. Being in the Legion is hazardous. But I can also understand the disappointment of those rejected.

Now, onto the characters.

The only official Legion characters who got developed in a way were Lightning Lad, Bouncing Boy, and Brainiac 5.

Lightning Lad HATES the auditions. And we can't overlook the muttering under his breath when the audition was over. And clearly he wasn't a fan of the rejects – especially Pete. And that reaction when he sees him the first time since the initial meeting?

Not okay.

Garth, you go over to that boy's place and take him out on an apology date.

Although, he does believe the squad/Substitutes kids on the glove thing. So, he doesn't think them as unintelligent initially. And he does warm up to them afterwards, saying he hopes to see them next audition. Aww.

WIth Bouncing Boy, we once again see the optimistic guy who has faith in others. But it goes into his background a bit. We learn that he wasn't automatically accepted into the Legion. But instead it took him four tries before getting in.

Four.

Give this guy an award for determination.

Now it even makes more sense why he would volunteer to help applicants prepare for the auditions. He knows how it feels to be rejected, but he eventually got it, so he wants to give others as much guidance as possible. He was the right person to give the rejected applicants a pep talk afterwards.

It was kind of funny when he sees the Squad arrive in space, and told them that when he said "When I said keep trying, I meant next year." So, he's not trying to get these kids to endanger themselves.

And the part where he says he believes the Squad? Perfect.

Bouncing Boy is a perfect person.

And on the other hand... character development with Brainy...

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOY.

So he's mostly annoyed with the auditions as well. Not to the same level as Lightning Lad. But he is much more dubious of those who didn't make it in, and when told to examine the glove, he shoves the cannon to Lightning Lad angrily. So, clearly, he has a lower opinion that Lightning Lad of the rejects.

He does seem to apologize afterwards, but clearly he's the type who doesn't seem to think highly of others initially. Making it hard to socialize with.

And then there is the solution he came up with. Making the ionosphere inhospitable with the chance of incinerating part of the atmosphere.

While the chance of dooming the planet wasn't that high, it was still a major issue. But Brainy insisted it had to be done. Thank god the Squad came in with the glove.

But the fact he was ready to overlook the risk to get rid of the monsters does show some of his darker nature. We've seen a less dark thing regarding him withholding info from Superman and the others. But this episode? This was a major thing to remember for season 2.

We also see signs of a bit of development with Superman, but not from this episode. It's from the last episode. Regarding Brainy.

When the cannon finishes charging up, he comments "I just hope we're not about to save the world by destroying it." That was directed to Brainy.

The Superman from the earlier episodes – particularly the range from first to seventh or eigth – wouldn't have said something like that. But think about what happened last time. He found out Brainy neglected telling him important things – the Alignment and the fact his powers depend on the yellow sun. He knows now Brainy has questionable morality. Not necessarily wrong in terms of the long run usually, but not entirely good with its current impact.

Does this mean their relationship has taken a turn for the worst? No. It means he's seeing Brainy more as a real person. A person with flaws.

And with that, can go to try helping him address those flaws.

And now the rest of the Legion. Most of them didn't get that much character development but I can make a few comments.

Saturn Girl is bad ass. She threatened Star Finger with having Matter-Eater Lad EATING PART OF HIM. And I don't think she's the type for lying in serious situations.

Phantom Girl and Timber Wolf don't have speaking roles, but I certainly want to know where they were when they weren't seen at the auditions.

As for the new comers, we got Star Boy and Matter-Eater Lad.

First, on Star Boy's character.

In most adaptations of the comics, Star Boy is depicted as white. However, in the 2005 reboot, he was changed to be Black. And anyone who knows me well knows I am the type to celebrate any POC hero/protagonist. 

Hence why anyone following me found their dash being flooded with Black Panther when the trailer came out. 

And my extreme bitterness on the fact the show's final product had lightened Triplicate Girl's skin color in comparison to the concept art.  

So I appreciate the fact that Star Boy was presented as Black in this show.

Speaking of Black Panther...

PLEASE GO SEE THE MOVIE WHEN IT COMES OUT WHEREVER YOU LIVE IF POSSIBLE.

In this episode, he doesn't have any speaking parts, like Wave. But he is expressive. Much more expressive. And isn't afraid of putting Lightning Lad in his place.

Despite the disappointing lack of development in this episode, he would get more development in Season 2 thankfully.

With Matter-Eater Lad, we do see he and Lightning Lad do have a friendship. And that he won't balk at the idea of eating living things. Making it even more likely he would have bitten some part of Star Finger off.

We once again see some of the other Legionnaires though. The list includes Element Lad, Tyroc, Sun Boy and Blok. And if you look carefully, also Shrinking Violet (although only towards the end). They don't get developed.

Now, the Villain of the episode.

Star Finger is an absolute JOY. And is one of the show's best villains because of his dramatic personality. He's not realistic or complex like Mekt or Alexis, and he's not threatening like the LSV, Londo, or (arguably) the F5 (I say arguably because let's face it, they aren't that interesting but the show is written so that the Legion considers them a threat). But he has so much personality you can't help but admire his antics in the show.

As for his personality, he is very dramatic. And clearly lacks much concern, as seen with the Star Minions.

HE JUST STEALS THE CROWN FROM ONE AND LETS IT FLOAT AWAY.

As a villain in terms of personality, he is a villain written well. He's written in a way that wanting to be a villain/criminal to strike fear into people seems legit. In comparison to Drax, he is the better written guy. An arc is unlikely, but he is still very enjoyable.

And now for the Substitutes, aka Reject Squad.

Chlorophyll Kid is another overweight character who is not written as someone obsessing over food. He is timid, and while he can't control plants – particularly the man eating ones, he does figure out how to use them effectively in some degree.

Stone Boy didn't get a lot of development in the episode, due to a combo of both not being a talker and constantly turning into stone for long durations. But he is very smart, given he made calculations on when he was falling back to Earth. SCIENCE MAJOR MATERIAL.

Infectious Lass. While I do like her in the cartoon, I do like the version they had in the cartoon's comic more. Mainly because she had more personality, but that can be because it focused on her. But she is still great in the show. She is definitely more vulnerable emotionally than any of the other girls we've seen on this show, which I appreciate. We need diverse personalities. And I love the fact they gave her an inhaler and made her sound like she had a cold.

Color Kid is very energetic, and almost on Star Finger's level of flamboyant. Not ignoring that rainbow triangle on his chest. Unlike the rest of the squad though, he is less aware of danger and why exactly he didn't make the cut. But I would sell my soul for his skills with color though. I think ANY ARTIST WOULD.

And then there is my favorite, Porcupine Pete. We’ve already seen him before, and we see that he is written consistently in this show. Massive Legion fan, adorkable. And no one can pry me away from the idea he has a crush on Lighting Lad-senpai. But we also see he has a close relationship with his mom. And he can hurt others easily with his quills, although unintentionally. As seen as when he saves a girl in the pool and she is unfortunate enough to get covered in them.

He assumes leadership of the Reject Squad. He isn't always sure what the best course of action is, but isn't afraid to ask for help. He doesn't let pride interfere.

Very different from Lightning Lad-senpai.

We also see him develop confidence in this episode. Which I love.

Well, that's all for now. Hopefully my next review won't take too long, given I’m on winter break. But I have work, and I don’t think we need to ask on what work in retail is like during holiday seasons.

1.) What’s ur fave time of year +why My favorite time of year is probably summer just because my birthday is in the summer time and it’s the one time of the year that I try to do something really nice for myself. Plus it is nice to get out in the warm weather and explore with hiking outdoors and other fun stuff that the winter time and the snow just doesn’t allow.

2.) Weirdest dream you ever had +ur reaction when u woke up I have to be honest I have weird dreams like all the time so I don’t react to them anymore lol. I dream about Michael Fassbender a lot, which is funny because I like him, but he’s not necessarily my most favorite actor. One of the weirdest dreams I ever had though was I was with my family driving in Florida and our car went under water and totally got buried under it. We survived, but then we were like being chased by this cult of people who were after us for no real reason, but then all of a sudden i wasn’t myself anymore and I was a completely different person with a different gender. It was kind of strange. Like I said I have strange dreams all the time so I’m thinking it’s part of the game for me :)

3.) Which fictional character would u trade places with?+why This won’t make sense to anyone because no one else has read the story, but I’m writing a gay romance novel and if I had to pick a character to trade with I would probably pick one of the guys in my story because even though his life wasn’t super easy for him at all, where he is at in his life is probably where I would like to be simply because he’s in a place where he was able to rise above where he started to find happiness in his life in following his dreams.

4.) If you could be any fruit, what would you be +why.. This is a tough one. I never really gave it any thought before considering that well, I just haven’t. If I had to pick one I’ll go with a banana just because it seems to be a super fruit that can offer a lot of good things to the world around it :)

5.) What is your dream job!!!+why I would love to be a writer simply because I love the idea of creating a character and watching them come to life with their story as it unfolds. Nothing is more exciting than being a part of their evolution and seeing them grow and develop.

6.) What’s ur family heritage like? Unfortunately less structured than most. We are a mix of a lot of cultures rolled into one, so there’s a little bit of everything going on there.

7.) You’re in a gang. What’s the name of the gang? What’s ur gang name/symbol? What’s your ranking in the gang? how did u get involved in this gang? Another tough one. To be honest I’m not really even sure if I can come up with something for this. How about instead of joining a gang I just see if I can just work my way into becoming a part of the X-Men? It sounds like a much more fun way to go.

8.) If you could travel to any time period, which would it be?  I wouldn’t mind traveling to the future and to the past without any real set destination in mind just because I think it would be interesting to see where things end up in the future and then if it’s undesirable you could go back and try to learn from the mistakes of your past.

9.) A movie that reminds you of your childhood?+why Dirty Dancing just because when I was younger my parents had decided that it was a movie that was inappropriate for children. It sounds lame I know, but since they’d seen it and didn’t like it I wasn’t allowed to see it. However, my best friend at the time grew up watching it and loving it, so one day at her house we watched it and like the naive child I was, I ended up ratting myself out for seeing it. The result was that I ended up getting grounded for not listening to what I was told, but now I look back and laugh considering how strict my parents were with me as opposed to my siblings through the years.

10.) When u were a kid what did u think u would be when u grew up? I wanted to be a movie star or a singer. I just loved the idea of getting dressed up and getting into character. It seemed so fun to try on different lives for a while or to entertain a crowd. In fact when I was really little I used to get dressed up and then sing to my favorite songs on the radio for my grandparents. I’m sure my concerts were terrible, but they seemed to love every second of it. Grandparents are great like that lol

11.) What was your favorite class that you have EVER taken, ever?+teacher description   This one is another tough question because if i’m honest with myself my favorite class I ever have taken was an independent study 3d class I did with a professor that let me explore my own level of creativity. I learned so much because I was able to set my own limitations and explore what I wanted to on a creative level and do things that went beyond what we were learning in all the other classes. However, if I had to pick a favorite class of mine it was an advanced Photoshop class that I took not because the class was the greatest, but because the professor at the time encouraged me to join the design program. Before I was in his class I had been going to school to work toward a career in medicine and/or psychology. I loved learning about psychology, but at the time my grandmother died and in the months leading up to her death I spent a lot of time at the hospital watching her fade away. Her rapid health decline was devastating to me not just because we were losing her, but because she was so unhappy at the end of her life. She regretted so many things and it caused me to question my path. Seeing her so unhappy about the choices she made after I’d watched her be super happy growing up made me wonder if I was making the right decisions for my future. Long story short is after she died I ended up with major anxiety that caused me to drop out of school. It wasn’t a decision I was proud of, but as people who have anxiety know when you can’t find the strength to fight an attack it only leaves you feeling isolated and confused. It really took me under for a while where I detached from the world around me including all of the people who were my friends and in that isolation I realized that I needed to make a change to find a better life for myself. With that thought in mind I enrolled in one class because I liked Photoshop enough playing with it on my own and that led to the second Photoshop class where the professor told me that I was in the top 5% of the students he’d ever taught in his years of teaching. He discovered I wasn’t a part of the design program and encouraged me to join, which ultimately helped me find a new reason to keep pushing forward and thinking positive about the future. Wow, that was kind of deep, but I guess that answers the question…

☾ - What was the first idea that inspired the creation of each of your trolls, and do they still embody that idea now?

listed in order of creation, and some of these answers are gonna get really fuckin long so prepare yourself for masses of textwalls

charon: ive gone over his history in this ask here, so tl;dr version: i wanted to make a light greenblood who was creepy and loved blood and fighting. thats it. why people like this guy even though his origin is literally being Edgy(tm) is beyond me. while blood and fighting are still his main interests, his creepiness is no longer being creepy for the sake of being ‘ooh hes so evil and InSaNe xD xD xD’ to actually having motivations and becoming a legitimate threat to others.

skathi: I DONT THINK IVE EVER ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT OLD!SKATHI BEFORE SO ONLY FORMER MSPAF MEMBERS REMEMBER THAT DUMPSTER FIRE LMAO. but basically skathi’s original concept was vaguely inspired by The Importance of Being Earnest since i was studying that play at the time, but rather than being a british gentleman who invents an alternate identity as an excuse to fuck off to the country or invents a sick relative as an excuse to avoid boring social events, she was a lowblood posing as a highblood because people she fucked over burned down her hive. however that idea didnt work at all because she was complete shit at hiding her blood so that got scrapped, and shes been completely remade twice. now the only concepts that have stayed through the revamps is that she’s an axe-wielding Flarper who uses poisons and got her hive burned down.

cvetka: cvetka’s another character who’s been completely revamped and reset, but her concept hasnt really changed as much. originally she had chlorokinesis that went awry all the fuckin time because whatever man im 16 i can write whatever bullshit i want (aka no reason at all). also she was inspired by the Victorian Era + the language of flowers because i was studying that at the time (you will see this becomes a common thing). then i cant remember if it got confirmed in the comic or if it just because a commonly accepted headcanon on mspaf that highbloods didnt have psiionics at all (whats a vriska) so that got scrapped. then in her revamp she became a complete recluse because pacifism is a no-go on alternia, and while i find that shes become a much better written / well-thought out character as a result, my chances to rp her have become severely limited.

katrin: was my self-insert. originally she was painfully shy and couldnt really talk to anyone without get super embarrassed, and also she was an artist instead of a writer. then everything changed when the fire nation attacked she got a boyfriend. its kinda funny tho because she had no interest in working or getting rich until she met gerrel, yet she ended up on the complete opposite path to him by becoming a thief and running scams with her moirail at the time. then a shitload of events occurred (most of them retconned out of her backstory but their effects on her character still remain. also we dont talk about 90% of those events because i was a Bad Writer at the time and im embarrassed by everything and nearly anxiety-vomit whenever people go ‘hey remember this’ BYE) and we got the piece of shit raccoon thief we all know and love. also ive mentioned this heaps of times before but at one point she had robolimbs cuz both her arms got shot off but i retconned that to having the bullets graze her because i hated drawing her cybernetics lmao. the only things that’ve really stayed with her is that she’s still really awkward and a little shy, as well as still retaining a lot of my negative traits from her self-insert days.

viltau: ive also talked about vil’s history in another ask, but tl;dr wanted a Gatsby troll cuz i was studying the book at the time, ended up making an Edgelord. he’s still pretty gatsby-esque, being a rich guy who worked his way up to the top (tho nowhere near as drastically since he’s already a highblood) and throws a lot of parties, but since he’s a huge literature nerd now he’s a lot more self-aware and aims to purposely embody tropes from his favourite novels. i still like the idea of yellowblood!viltau (and his old sprites are adorable i mean look at him), but i have a lot more fun writing him as he is now. he’s almost a parody of himself, yet simultaneously played completely straight.

somerl: he was originally inspired from me going through my photo albums from times ive been to Hamilton Island on holiday, and in particular the one night i went on a cruise on The Banjo Paterson. i liked the idea of a cute sailor troll, and that was all he got characterwise. then, like katrin, he developed as a result of a bunch of events occurring to him and that’s how he gained a personality. he’s still a cute sailor troll, but now he’s a paranoid insomniac sailor troll with an obsession for superstitions and hatred for seadwellers and women. seadweller women are his worst nightmare.

dismas: his origin is actually kinda funny cuz i was watching this amv, and around about the time that Birthday Massacre song starts playing there’s this white-haired kid who appears and i thought he was the coolest thing ever. to this day i still have no clue who he is or what anime he’s from. also because it’s still 2011 and I Was A Teenage Edgelord i had an embarrassing obsession with Izaya from Durarara so of course dismas had to be an informant who fucks with everyone. originally he was yellow!viltau’s assistant who carried out all the shady jobs and was my go-to troll for killing off ocs i got bored of but they had history with other people’s trolls so i couldnt just get rid of them. then his original concept got combined with vil when i retconned vil into being an indigoblood. when i brought him back i kept the informant stuff and the Edgyness, but now he’s edgy to make fun of the fact he was a legitimate edgelord played 100% straight back in the day. also his roboarm switched sides because i forgot which arm he lost lmao.

aegiel: did a complete 180 in terms of character concept, and went through a bunch a revamps before i even started rping her. originally she was inspired by Hollywood Undead (particularly the song city), and was actually a super hemorebel who managed to escape capture and culling by having probability manipulating psiionics that ensured luck was always on her side. then i scrapped that entirely because at the time i was studying the Chinese revolution and the topic of the cultural revolution came up. so then her concept switched to being based on the Chinese Red Guards, as well as partially the Russian Cheka since i studied the Russian revolution the semester prior. I thought the concept of a super hemoloyal lowblood with a fanatical dedication to the Empire would be interesting, since most hemoloyalists tended to be highbloods. the only things thatve stayed from her original concept are her name and symbol, as well as her laughing quirk being a remnant of how her lusus was originally a cheshire cat.

aiolos: i dont really remember where his original concept came from, apart from i remember seeing a fanart of a 1920s style Scout from TF2 and liking the idea of a courier troll. i know i drew his original design in history class while watching Doctor Zhivago but i dont remember anything about that movie to know if that had any bearing on his character lmao. originally he was pretty rude and kinda sleazy, which ended up morphing into the sass you see today. he hasnt really changed much from his original concept, but its more that his character has grown over time.

kalpan: ok i have a confession to make. the reason why i made kal was because there were a shitload of anonbloods on mspaf that were either A. really bad at hiding their anonblood status, or B. were all almost always tyrianbloods in disguise who would pull rank every time someone gave them shit for being anon. and me, being the egotistical piece of shit i am, decided that i wanted to make a good anonblood. so kal’s blood was kept secret and she stayed out of trouble so that itd never get revealed, and her reasoning for being anonymous was just that she didnt really care my dude. she hasnt really strayed too far from her original concept, but rather expanded on the reason why shes so casually apathetic and gave her more of a backstory.

leithe: leithe’s original concept was something i dreamed up, no joke. from what i remember from the dream, i went to like a superhero school or something, and there was this one kid whose power was to cancel out other people’s powers so he’d be the one to save other kids when they lost control of their powers. his power also looked like a bubble that’d envelop himself and the other person whose powers he was cancelling out, so when i made him a fantroll that turned into an invisible field in which his psiionics were constantly active. and instead of being a hero, leithe was just an average dude who’d take up odd jobs here and there so he could have the skills to get a good job in the fleet. conceptwise he hasnt changed much, although hes become less tolerate of other lowbloods over time and he grew 500% more eyebrow.

pratap: was the first new troll i made after starting this blog. his first idea was a cute little seadweller who didnt really understand why other trolls were suspicious of him and his innocent offers to take them to his cafe for coffee. then shortly after making him, I studied Great Expectations in my uni literature class, and loved the idea of pratap getting a mentor who turns him from an innocent little kid to a typical shithead member of high society. that plot was going pretty well but fell through because of Reasons (read: i no longer associate with the other rper), so now he’s stuck in limbo characterwise but id love to pick it up again sometime.

errett: i say this every time i bring up errett’s history but haha remember when this guy was supposed to be cute. so errett was supposed to be in a group of trolls inspired by the four main elements from the game OFF., but pwo and i never got anyone to fill the spots for the elements of metal and plastic so it was just errett and his troll karnvr. and yeah, errett was supposed to be cute and his rudeness was meant to just be cutesy ‘ill puff up my cheeks and get angry and everyones gonna think im adorable’ but that got thrown out the window the moment i started rping him and he became a complete cunt. then we started thinking up a backstory for him and he became even more of a Bitter Angry Baby, so now the only elements that’ve really retained are his design and references to the game OFF..

sigrun: was inspired by those gifs of penguins falling over and the fact that i fucking love penguins and cry whenever i see cute penguin-related things. apart from being a bit more aggressive in their first draft, they havent changed much at all (probably because i never use them ever oops).

kisert: i have another confession to make. the reason why i made kisert was because i thought the whole ‘creepy little kid who talks to ghosts’ troll was overdone to hell and back so i wanted to make a parody of it by making a troll who pretends to be creepy and talks to ghosts to con people. he’s always been a massive childish brat, but his brattiness and childishness has gotten even more apparent over the years. tho at the same time, because those tendencies have been played up, he’s become a lot more emotionally stunted and stuck in the past as a result, which i think is more interesting than his original concept.

raesul: also hasn’t really changed from her original concept. i had the Danger Days album on repeat and really liked the idea of a hemorebel radio host, and so rae was born. she’s also partially inspired by Motorcity which i was watching at the time (and never finished oops), hence her radio station being called radio BRNR, after the Burners group. while rae was always supposed to be completely different from her miss summertime identity, the differences have become a lot more pronounced now that rae is super awkward and insecure while miss summertime is loud, proud, and always in control. also miss summertime’s wardrobe went from being super girly to more punk and rock-and-rock inspired, originally i wanted to avoid that because i thought itd be too cliche but then somewhere along the line i decided ‘lol fuck it’.

shirei: is based off the pokemon pangoro, cuz one of it’s pokedex entries states how its tough and aggressive but doesnt tolerate bullies, so i thought the idea of a tough but almost motherly gang leader would be neat. i was also watching Kill La Kill and Revolutionary Girl Utena at the time, so she gained some tomboyish but also princely/fairytale-esque qualities as a result. she hasnt changed much in terms of concept and ideas, but she kinda retroactively got inspired by quite a few of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure protagonists (particularly Jolyne and Giorno, but also a bit of Josuke) because they were kind of similar in concept.

redeti: was made as being a part of a group for trolls based on santa’s reindeer that i was doing with pwo. red is a combination of the ideas i had for Dasher and Vixen, and when i first designed him we joked that he looked like a lovechild between viltau and kitaer, so his interests became snowcones and murder to reference that. while he’s still a part of the Northern Lights crew with all the other reindeer inspired trolls we made, he’s become more detached from everyone else as a result of making friends with people outside the community. but in terms of original concept and ideas, he hasn’t really changed apart from probably becoming a lot more naive and dense over time.

fannar: is another troll from the Northern Lights crew, although they were made about a month after. they were kind of based off my idea for Donner, but also a mix between one of my older trolls i got rid of and my old Hetalia oc Antarctica. since they werent going to be a reindeer troll, i wanted them to be an outsider to the group, hence their polar bear lusus and their sickly constitution making it difficult for them to live in their current environment. originally they legitimately hated redeti’s guts and wanted him dead, but over time it’s become more of just a simple blackcrush that’s made them very protective of him.

nancor: ive mentioned this before, but his original concept came about because of this video and me deciding i really liked xatu. i had also seen The Book Thief recently, and loved the character of Death (i havent read the book yet tho dont judge me), so that’s where nan’s whole ‘pleasant but morbid angel of death’ came from. he’s also somewhat based on a couple characters from Hamatora (which is an alright series but the 2nd season is a complete dumpster fire and you should only watch if you want to watch a show fly so far off the rails it becomes hilarious), such as Ratio’s power requiring him to cover up his eye, and Moral’s design (as well as Izuru Kamukura from Danga Ronpa being another design insp). he’s always been kind of a silly character with his dumb puns and the fact that he walks around wearing a blindfold and fights with semaphore flags, but the more serious aspects of his personality didnt come in until much later.

eichio: another troll that started out as a huge fuckin joke, i saw this vine and wanted to make a troll who used noisemakers as their strife weapon. his mimicry and talent with musical instruments was just random brainstorming, and his whole ‘mimicking other trolls so he can learn how to act properly and pick up their behaviours to become likeable’ became a thing because i didnt know what personality or interests to give him. then i really started to explore the concept of a troll who has been raised to be nothing but the perfect people pleaser and even more perfect servant, and the effects that would have on someone’s mentality. he also developed an anxiety disorder cuz i got diagnosed with GAD and realised how much of myself id unintentionally put in him. its kinda amusing how a character who was originally supposed to just be a blank slate ended up so complex, but i really like how much hes grown as a concept.

davitt: dav was made for that meme that went around where you and a friend had to come up w. 2 ocs in secret and not reveal them until they were both done, and then you had to figure out how to ship them together, so i came up with him while pwo made walker. i was watching How To Get Away With Murder at the time, so i really liked the idea of a corrupt lawyer who used loopholes to get all his clients out of being found guilty, and was only in the job field for money and the fact it was really easy for a tealblood to become a Legislacerator. but, since im incapable of making trolls that arent also huge fuckin dorks, he was also a huge lazy piece of shit cat who hoarded random garbage and came up with dumb ways to be efficiently lazy. over time his corrupt and greedy ways have fallen to the wayside in favour of the more comically serious side to his personality, though they’re still slightly there since he is primarily a defense lawyer and we all know those types of lawyers are the devil.

ananta: ana is based off the game OneShot, which i played and fell in love with instantly. a lot of their concept stems from the game, ranging from superficial stuff such as their appearance resembling Niko and how their strife weapon is a lightbulb, but also the technical aspects of the game such as their unforgiving personality being a reference to how you only get one shot at the game, and their hobby as a hacker referencing how the game does shit to your computer as part of a puzzle. the resemblance was apparently so close that the creator of the game reblogged my concept art for ana, which im both still flattered and embarrassed about. like a lot of my recent characters, their core concept hasnt really changed, but rather ive focused a lot more on aspects of their personality like their extreme bitterness to hide their vulnerablity, and their loneliness as a result of the events in their life and the facade they put up.

soroll: is a literal meme. hes based off the ‘scream at own ass’ opossum meme, and is part of a group of meme animal trolls owned by pwo, who is also a huge memer. again his concept hasnt really changed since hes always been kinda dumb but with a huge heart, but over time hes become more of a mother hen type since he ended up unintentionally gravitating towards trolls who never took care of themselves so hed fuss over them. also i have no clue what happened to his quirk over time or even what accent its meant to resemble now lmao.

benrii: is based off Sanetoshi Watase from one of my favourite anime of all time, Mawaru Penguindrum. like ana, he’s not so much a direct rip of the character (apart from appearance) but more of an amalgamation of references to the series, so you have things like his obsession with fate mirroring the theme of the show, his apple bombs referencing the symbolism of apples that appears constantly, and the fact that he’s 9.5 sweeps refers to the 95 arc number in the show. also at one point i fell into a huge rabbit hole and ended up reading up about cults and biblical shit so that’s where his god complex came from. the whole ‘being addicted to praise and acting out for attention’ aspect of his personality didnt come about until much later, and thats now the dominant part of his character as a whole.

rosato: is another troll based on memes and joke posts on tumblr rifp, but this time its those posts on modern vampires and people not recognising they’re actually vampires and seeing things like their sudden aversion to the sun and garlic to just be weird coincidences. so then i came up with the idea of a forgetful rainbowdrinker who refused to believe theyre actually dead because they forgot how they got killed and assumes all the associated Weird Vampire Shit are just coincidences. he’s also got a shitload of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure references in him because this was around about the time i got into the series. after errett failed, rosato was my second attempt at making a shy and cute but kinda mean troll, but once again he ended up becoming a full-blown rude asshole.

zotick: i was reading Vento Aureo and thought ‘you know Gold Experience is a fuckin cool power, what if I tried to make it less OP and turn it into a fantroll’. thus, zot was born. like rosato, his design and personality are a bunch of references to Giorno, and his love of bugs/scorpions/lizards/etc came from the fact that whenever Gold Experience turned something into an animal, its always something gross and dangerous. like eichio, i couldnt decide on any interests so i took the cheater’s way out and made it that he got bored easily so he doesnt stick to any main hobbies apart from bugs and pranks. Over time, he became more obnoxious and annoying, which was mostly because every single bug-related post on this site i could find was a fuckin meme.

Indi and Kaiman: im putting these two together because i came up with their concepts at the same time. firstly, i wanted to make trolls who were interested in the paranormal and aliens and shit, and secondly, i wanted them to be not quite siblings but grew up so closely they could basically be considered the Alternian equivalent of brothers. They were supposed to look similar in appearance and clothing too, but when i drew my first concept of indi i really liked what i came up with but it didnt suit how i envisioned kai so they ended up becoming completely different. i also wanted indi to be the quiet one and kai to be the loud one, but then i liked the idea of them being completely conflicting in terms of first impressions and ‘real’ personality. while their concepts never strayed away from their original idea, they definitely became a lot more developed and evolved once i started talking about them to ez, who was designing mauban at the time. from their interactions with mau, indi became a lot more extroverted but also trusting and optimistic, whereas kai became more judgmental and standoffish than i had initially intended, which i thought was a neat contrast.

mikiel: he’s Ghiaccio from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. that’s it. character analysis over. ok i lied, but a lot of his character concept came from the fact that i really loved Ghiaccio’s design, personality, and powers, and really wanted to make a troll like that. funnily enough his gang affiliation is not a reference to Passione / La Squadra, but rather because i wanted to add more characters to the red scarves. the whole mutant thing is because i really wanted him to have psiionics but also wanted him to be a blueblood, and the fact that his powers are nigh uncontrollable is me reusing original!cve’s chlorokinesis idea, this time the reason being because his body cant handle an ability that supposed to be only seen in lowbloods rather than just Because Shut Up. he was actually supposed to be aggressive and Angry(tm) all the fuckin time, but after a while i considered that his life is actually really fuckin depressing so he gained ‘depression’ as his second emotion. now i try to focus more on his defeatist nature as opposed to anything else because otherwise he feels just kinda one-note.

aislin: is based on Alphys from Undertale, because i really like making characters based on my fav indie rpgs apparently. i got to that part in the game when you realise that alphys has been watching you from the very beginning, and thought a troll with surveillance-based psiionics would be a really neat concept over making Yet Another Geeky Scientist (although ais is interested in science to reference alphys, she just doesnt practice it). in terms of personality, she’s katrin 2.0, because as much as i love kat how she is right now, i really missed her adorably yet painfully shy personality that she used to have. i am also v. protective of ais and the types of trolls she interacts with because i refuse to have another Incident. so its more of a return to original concepts that earlier characters once embodied.

lanthi: came about because A. I was watching Owarimonogatari and i fuckin love Ougi and B. it was finally time for me to make a subjug. her chucklevoodoos are a play on the fact that Ougi is scarily good at prompting people into figuring out the exact answers they’re looking for, and especially in the Sodachi arcs how she was able to make Araragi remember everything about his past that he’d blocked out of his mind just by asking the right questions and the right time. for lanthi, i interpreted that as fabricating memories through suggestion, so her targets become more receptive to listening to her since they suddenly recall her as a familiar face they can trust. i havent really done much with her so i dont rly have anything to say, other than i still have no clue what the fuck she is.

velour: oh boy, velour. i had so many concepts for this fucker that it was hard for me to settle on one. along with being a celebrity fashion designer and vlogger who happens to be a lowkey con artist, other concepts i had in mind were a matchmaker, and a borderline yandere who uses his celebrity status to lure in targets to fall in love with him. i scrapped the latter two ideas (tho now the yandere thing gets referenced by the fact he gets fans paying him to act out their own weird celebrity stalker fantasies LMAO), and somehow managed to mash together all my concepts into an actual troll. he took the longest for me to figure out, and it wasnt until after i made liiore and gave him a past with him + mikiel where everything started to click, but now everything works and im super happy w. him.

liiore: was somewhat of an offshoot of my many velour concepts, since along with the celebrity idea i was also thinking of an ex-celebrity concept as well. also one night i was reading the PokeSpe page on Bulbapedia and it mentioned one of the main characters being an ex-celebrity who became a shut-in after he got too overwhelmed by the lifestyle, and i really liked that concept. so then liiore was born. he was also my 3rd attempt at making a cute shy boy character, except this time i nixed the ‘but also grumpy in a cute way’ so i wouldnt end up with Yet Another Errett or Rosato. now hes a huge dopey ball of adorable shyness.

daimon: so when i first played Awakening i made a Fire Emblem-inspired troll who didnt really click with me so i scrapped them almost immediately. then Fates came around and I fell in love with every single archer but especially Niles and Takumi, so i was like ‘yknow what lets try round 2 for an FE troll’. so dai is a mishmash of all the Fates archers (but Niles remained the main inspiration so that’s why his appearance and personality is closest to him), as well as kinda more Arthur than Setsuna simply because i thought a troll with impossibly bad lukc would be hilarious. and also hilariously tragic, hence his backstory. since i havent really rped him that much he hasnt really changed in concept, but he also became inspired by Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine after i started watching that and now i cannot unsee dai in jake help me.

callan: is based on a combination of ‘The Phantom Thief’ trope, Bungou Stray Dogs (particularly Dazai and Chuuya in terms of design), and the fact i was talking about my faceblindness issues with my parents and thought ‘hey a character who no one can remember what they look like would make a great thief’. and i was thinking about rosato’s backstory and really wanted to make an npc to fill in the gaps re: how he died but whoops i got attached to the concept and now ive got a legit troll on my hands. i was also thinking about how i have way too many pretty + well-dressed + cultured male trolls so i kinda made callan a different spin on my own predicability by making him look smart and cultured but really not giving a shit about anything of the sort. he loves the theatre but only if theyre musicals with a lot of comedy, he steals art and knows his art history but only so that he can definitely steal something of worth that isnt going to end up a forgery, he’s sharp dressed because it attracts attention given his caste, and he drinks beer because he looks like a guy who’d prefer wine.

#im doing this thing for class where we have to design like a superhero or whatever#and then my brain created an idea for a guy with a fucking cone in their head and a giant spear#and it evolved into a world where humanity used to be this gigantic empire going around colonising planets#but then these shadow creatures appeared that started to kill them off and the humans who survived made robots to kill the shadows#but they just kept on reproducing and making more and the humans made more robots to kill them and it was like a plague#and so they made these new models (with the cone heads) and sent them into some planets with less shadows far away#to see if they were good at their designed function#and on their way there the rocket that had two of the cones (the protag and their friend)#gets a malfunction where it changes targets and sends them to this one planet where the shadows got wiped a while ago and its p much a dese#t#but then turns out that in that planet there is still living there an old killing robot model that has a stoplight for a head instead#there used to be more but they all slowly stopped working until there was onyl one left. wall-e style#and since the rocket they came in is p much destroyed and the place is fucking barren they can't get out#and later they find out that the rocket didnt actually malfunction. that the commander of the operation and ex-wife of the old robot#sent it there so he could have some company#and the guy is all grumpy bc he was just fine alone and now he has two other bots to take care of#bc he's not gonna let them die here#found family ensues

and the rest of the ramble

The general world consists of many planets, most of them ravaged by the shadows, where they get sent robots to eliminate them and reclaim the land. The planets that aren't ravaged are these futuristic cyberpunk utopias where most of the population are robots doing the usual jobs that humans do, like farming, cooking, plumbing, all that stuff. it's also where new robots are designed, for war or other stuff. All robots have anthropomorphic bodies and a designed object for their head, and this is a conscious design choice on the remaining humans' part

VLC mf and their travel bestie got lore. y'see the protag has a very strong moral code that they must obey: listen to humans, kill all shadows, obey all rules. it was programmed into them from the very start. all robots nowadays are given this code actually, but the war robots are the one that have it even more dead-set. this means that our protag has difficulty adapting to the new planet, since there are no shadows to attack so they kinda enter this strange depressive episode where they linger around bc their One purpose is out of reach and no one wants them to fight to reach it so its just. yeah.

and their robot friend that was on the rocket with them wasn't even a fighting conehead robot at all! it's actually a communications robot with an antenna head that developed a passion outside of the field she was made for (destroying shadows. she loves violence). since she's not made for war, ofc no one's gonna send her to fight on other planets bc it'd just be a waste, but she really wants to fight, so she decided to infiltrate the conehead division by destroying one of the bots and taking their place using a hologram that disguised her appearance. our protag caught her, but since the other robot was beyond repair, they decided that it would be best to let her take their role and help in their mission to eradicate shadows. since they knew her secret and seemed to have more emotions than their peers, she pretty much latched on to them and labeled themselves as friends, a concept pretty much foreign to new bots due to their lack of sophisticated programming in the emotional intelligence department. the protag is the only one that knows her secret identity out of the whole conehead batch thing

the commander and the old robot used to be married, with the commander formerly being a communications robot but with a human face and features instead of an object head. as she got up the ranks, she got special modification priviledges that allowed her to get a cool human head. her husband got sent to that planet to eliminate shadows alongside many other bots like him with traffic light heads. the fight was long and hard, and numbers on both factions dwindled alongside the planet losing all life due to the devastation and the shadows themselves seeping the life from plants and animals to stay alive. the shadows, seeing as they definitely wouldn't survive this, retreated underground in hopes of hiding from the bots and finding food.

due to a certain event, the old bot went haywire and killed the rest of the bots.

they divorced due to different ideals, but they still cared for eachother, so the wife (as she was the only commander overseeing the operation on that planet) decided to declare that all shadows from that planet had been eliminated alongside the bots, and stopped any and all attempts from trying to recolonise the planet. it's not like humans had much interest in it, as it was fairly small, lacking in resources, and far too far away from the main planets to be worth sending any exploration rockets to. the ex husband also promised that he would try his best to fly under the radar in his lil planet. it's not like the rockets he came there with were meant to fly back home

so mans had been vibing, living a peaceful life rarely talking to his ex wife, until a "faulty" ship containing two dumbass energetic young robots appeared

and now he has to choose between wether he takes care of them to help them survive this hostile planet and not cause any ruckus or he kills them to make sure his and his ex's secret is never known

oh and of course this is all a big critique to capitalism because i want to fucking complain about it
