was talking to chika @khickuwa about this a few days ago, about how luke's guilt and self loathing makes him want to erase himself from existence completely (see: SSR Shape Of You story, his general tendency to run and hide from MC) because he perceives his existence as a burden and wants to relieve his loved ones of that burden by leaving no trace

and yet

and yet

ingrained in luke's habits and interests is this inherent desire to leave remnants of himself.

theres the diary he keeps, rigorously noting down his experiences day by day, theres his hobby of photography which will always be implicit with who the photographer was, theres all the antiques he fixes which will always carry the evidence of his touch and restoration.

at his lowest, luke says it's better if he was forgotten, as if he was never there in the first place.

but deep down, he's hardwired to create objects of memory—he wants to be remembered
