The two are sitting down at a small table, having their usual tea time. The two of them also seem to be discussing something, not really hearing or acknowledging Follower Sword's arrival.

honestly the way this event is written has me convinced that like, some internal meeting must have happened behind the scenes to make reinhardt one of the unofficial heroines of the game

it's just about the sheer rage of it all

this event shows us more backstory on it but honestly as long as we've had reinhardt she's always been not just idealistic, but angry

no one knows better than her how close the aurorians are to losing the war against the eclipse. time and time again she's been faced with the deaths of everyone she cares about, the genuine sacrifices that come from a war hinging on which side evolves faster, and she just hates the sheer unfairness of it all

reinhardt as she is now is long past being the hot headed soldier who thought she could singlehandedly change the system from the inside, she's weathered and bitter and smoldering and overall just tired of it all

this girl died. she fought and struggled so hard to be the change she wanted to see, put up with everything uncritically because she believed that if she toughed it out, things would work out

but they didn't. all her friends died and she was left as a weapon

but even then, she's still angry. Illumina went so far as to literally split reinhardt's rage, her will to survive, from her mind and yet she's still here.

despite all that, even though she wishes she can die she HAS to live, she can Only live because she is more than just a savior and a martyr, shes the only one willing to uphold an ideal of impartial fairness and justice in a world that demands sacrifice. she's freely admitted to being a terrible person in the past that even when directly facing her younger idealistic self she flat out tells her that she would be disappointed, because reinhardt has had to make compromises to her morals and ideals for the sake of survival

renegade and reinhardt are very distinct, both of them admit as much because what else would you say about snapshots of a person in radically different parts of their life, but even so there's no bitterness between them because renegade existed to keep reinhardt the person alive. she was that rage which illumina attempted to excise but simply couldn't because reinhardt at her core can't help but be herself and fight for what she believes in. despite being the top soldier of her unit she constantly disobeyed her superiors and even planned a coup just to do what she believed was best, and no matter how much they tried to break her, she simply didn't. she's suffered unimaginably yet believes her suffering isn't unique, that everyone fighting to survive suffers just like her and that so long as she remembers that, she won't ever give up.

and now, she will. and she isn't going to let anyone stop her. illumina wanted a perfect soldier and instead created a sword that will rend them asunder

probably coincidence but man are there a few

so Warframe and the Aurora Cycle series by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. specifically, about the fact that i’ve been listening to Aurora Cycle bc audiobooks keep my adhd brain somewhat settled and dude are there so many similarities like if you were to tell me that the authors were both huge wf players i would completely believe it alright like. okay

a list of things about the aurora cycle that give me warframe vibes, in no particular order (beware spoilers like in general im just spoiling everything)”

- Knock-off Void (or “Fold,” in this case). Used to make travel exponentially faster but it is Very Hazardous! 

- So hazardous, in fact, that only children/teenagers can be conscious while in the Fold and still retain their sanity. Adults, after a while, will start to go Insane(tm)

- Local Teen Develops Mysterious Powers After Being Involved in a Void Jump Accident That Leaves Settlement Ship She’s On a Hulking Derelict Floating In the Black

- said powers are Too Much at first and need to learn to be controlled and Also Later Involve Empathy

- knockoff infestation but this one is plant-based!! an ancient plant hive mind monster thing that is settled mostly on outer rim planets but seeks to Consume All and also it can possess ppl but leave them w the appearance of normality a la Emissary arc (if i remember right from what i read on the wiki)

- local elf/klingon hybrid struggles with bloodlusty tendencies, what he refers to as “the war within” as opposed to the “war without” the ensemble is dealing with in-plot

- much of the plot helped along by the Ancient Race of Golden Lords that Came Before

- said Golden Lords of Bygone Days essentially created/activated Local Protagonist Teen as a Weapon/Savior (subversion here though in that these orokin aren’t nearly as jerkish as the orokin were)

- the main protag was supposed to settle on a planet called Octavia okay thats it thats the sole basis for me going conspiracy brain on this ALRIGHT THATS IT

- jk i know there are more but thats what i got off the top of my head pfft

it’s probably just me, too! but you know what, half of my enjoyment of the series comes from going ‘ah thats just warframe’ every 10 minutes re: the worldbuilding like it’s become a game at this point

also Aurora Cycle isn’t terrible, but, and i say this with love, i’d say if you want a better time, probably check out their Illuminae series instead or actually just play warframe bc it’s got so many similar veins anyway (and anyway warframe has the business and u got to love that dude)

Blog title: “Am I not merciful?” is a line from one of my favorite books, The Illuminae Files part 1. I chose this to be the title because I got quite a lot of comments telling me that “I am butchering their hearts” with the angsty fics so I thought it would be fitting lol

Here I am with the final part of this month’s themed week in “Lyrical Love”! Today’s subject is a song by the musical project Wing Works, precisely Vad†Man, lead-track of the first single Vad†Man, sorry this is “Machination”, come out on 26th June 2013. This song can be defined the most important one in Wing Works’ discography, as it encloses the features of his sound, electronic and engaging and deals with the true meaning of Ryo:suke’s work in this project.

THE MUSIC

An energetic and rhythmical melody opens this song, featuring electronic notes and an adrenalinic theme; Ryo:suke’s voice is mixed, alternating screamo parts with auto-tune and clear tones, keeping up an engaging and technically compelling, with a good guitar work, dynamic rhythm and a funny dance part in the middle, giving to the song a touch of unpredictability.

THE WORDS

Written by Ryo:suke, the song has a quite compelling layout in its own, mixing short slang lines with longer and more reflective ones, but in general the meaning is quite clear. Before talking about the song in specific, it’s needed to make a little premise of the single where it has been released. The debut single is focused on Vad†Man, a character created by Ryo:suke, already featured in Silver, the lead of the first album, and which would have appeared in Fushichou -Fennix-, the lead of the second single. This fictitious character is a symbol of change and revolution, as brought out in each track of this single; the title-track deals with the desire of changing the world, despite the consequences coming from that, as we will get to see later, while the other tracks, The Light of Exodus, Illumina✡Luminalion and I’ll die, but my CREATION never die, deal respectively with the research of a promised land, resistance or submission and the eternity of art and all of these songs, the lead in particular, have a great use of spiritual symbolism, linked to deeper images than expected. And now... let’s analyze the song!

I) The text starts with the protagonist which invites the reader to be aware of the current world system, before the new renaissance ends (NĒ KIZUITE KURE SEKAI NO SYSTEM/ARATA NA RENAISSANCE OWARU MAE NI), bringing to the new world order, based on a TV show, where the rebirth is synonym of control and oppression, which he doesn’t want to approach his life (NEW WORLD ORDER IS IN THE TV SHOW. /“SHINSEI WA TŌSEI NO MONSHŌ”/CHIKAZUKANAI DE...., referencing to the power of mass media in people’s lives); but the true world order comes from the imagination, where the rebirth can be seen and understood only by ingegnous minds and finally the protagonist asks to his mate to not kill him, as they have to do something together (NEW WORLD ORDER IS IN YOUR IMAGINATION./“SHINSEI WA TOKKEN NO KŌMYŌ”/KOROSANAI DE...!)

II) The protagonist has grown with the false image of a god described as a charismatic pioneer, an unwanted savior and a simple messiah, trivializing the figure of prophet (“KAMI YO, CHARISMA TO WA NOZOMARENU MESSIAH?”/BOKU NI MEBAETA IMBŌRON.), but meanwhile he wants to start secretly his mission change, along with his mate and with the dark matter forming the universe around them (HISOKA NI SHIKAKETAI KIMI TO NO DARK MATTER/“SEKAI O IMA, KAETE YUKŌ”).

III) The refrain sees the protagonist, Vad†Man, says that one day they will become apostles with wings, for bringing their revelation of utopia to the whole world (OH, VAD+MAN. OH, VAD+MAN./BOKURA ITSUKA TSUBASA MOTSU SHITO NI NARERU./OH, VAD+MAN. DAKARA/ABAKE SUBETE NO UTOPIA.).

IV) The protagonist sees that his mate doesn’t care at all about the current world system, which has brought the renaissance, so much grabbed, to be destroyed (MADA KIZUKENAI NO? SEKAI NO SYSTEM/TSUKANDA RENAISSANCE KOWASARESŌ); after repeating the second part of the first sequence, the protagonist asks to God if this era he is living is a clone of a tragedy, showing him that there are little things so that a monarch rules well, but it is only in the imagination (“KAMI YO, KONO JIDAI WA HIGEKI NO CLONE NA NO KA?”/CHIPPOKE DE MO II TEIŌGAKU/EGAKITSUZUKETA TEIŌGAKU.); then he realizes that the whole world is structured in a whirlpool of malice and that’s another reason why a change is needed (SUBETE GA SHIKUMARETA AKUI NO UZU NO NAKA).

V) So he and his mate want to make a new world, even if many world lines are repeated, even if he has to do that again and again, as he is walking in a thorny path (MAKE A NEW WORLD/IKUDO KURIKAESU SEKAISEN DE MO/MAKE A NEW WORLD/BOKU WA NANDO DE MO YARINAOSERU SA/IBARA MICHI FUMISHIME, the latter line is a reference to the Passion of Christ) and after the repetition of the refrain, the protagonist realizes that their utopia has ended and that now they have to act for changing the world (OWARE, SUBETE NO UTOPIA/SĀ, SHIKAKEYŌ).

In a world made of symbols, oppression and deception, what is the solution for making things better if not the change? Wing Works points out this statement in his most representative work, energetic, rebellious and unpredictable as few, confirming his need to break the schemes, whenever is needed.

Kat Grant- she goes through SO MUCH, but she still kicks ass and saves an entire planet by herself (okay, yes, AIDAN was there too, but you get the point)

Emma Swan- I MISS HER. I don’t know why people, unfairly, hate her and say she lost her badassery after season 1. Because she decided to fall in love? Because she decided to let herself be happy with her son and family that she searched for forever? And she did all of this while carrying the weight of being the Savior? HOW DARE SHE. 

Kaz Brekker- I love Inej more, but Kaz was the first character i loved because he’s such a butt sometimes. He tries to be Dark™️ and Brooding™️, but really he’s just a teenager in love with a girl who turns him into an idiot whenever she's around and that’s just amazing, tbh. 

The character you never expected to love so much:

Syra Boll- I didn’t realize how much she’d grown on me until THAT happened in Obsidio and I was feeling all the emotions at once.

Regina Mills- I absolutely despised her character all through season one and most of season 2, even when I do rewatches I get angry all over again. She became one of my favorites eventually though, once she realized her wrongs, and became closer with Snow. She has one of the best character developments ever, imo.

Colm Fahey- Jesper’s dad is the parent these kids deserve!!!

The character you relate to the most:

Ella Malikov- I’m not even half as smart as she is, but i’m probably just as sassy and sarcastic.

Emma Swan- The feeling of not really belonging anywhere is a feeling all too familiar with me. 

Wylan Van Eck- We are both incredibly awkward in the romance department.

Travis Falk- Took too long to get what he deserved, tbh.

Character you liked at first, but don’t like anymore:

Byron Zhang- I knew it was coming, but that doesn’t mean I liked it one bit.

Rumplestiltskin- He was such a good villain for the first few seasons, but even when they had a new Big Bad, they kept using him as a scapegoat and it just felt like a tired plot. And the back and forth between him and Belle was just exhausting. 

It’s pretty clear who the good and bad guys are in this book, so it was easy to know who to like.

The characters you didn’t like at first, but do now:

AIDAN- How dare this series get me to care about a morally grey artificial intelligence system.

Zelena- I actually enjoyed her character the entire time, but she really frustrated me at first. I’ve made my peace with it, though.

Kuwei Yui-Bo- Okay, yes, i’m one of those people who didn’t like him simply because he came between Wylan and Jesper, but I've since learned the error of my ways.

She was not happy.

"I should've just picked my sword back up..." she huffed through gritted teeth. Ghostwalker was patching her up, bandaging some of the wounds on her back.

Her wing was already tended to, ointment & other medicines already rubbed on the wounds, there were bare spots where feathers had been torn out.

Her body was already full of scars, & it looked like she would be getting some new ones.

Ghostwalker gently took one of her arms, inspecting the several- bite wounds? They looked strange.

"Since when were his teeth sharp?" He raised a brow.

"I don't know, & I don't really care," she scoffed. "He's changed alot. Not just the teeth part- his fingers are gross & webbed too."

Ghostwalker nodded in response, taking some ointment from his medical kit & rubbing it on the wounds. He worked quickly.

He finished rather quickly, wiping the remainders of any medicine off his gloves- discarding of it. He then began packing up his bag of medicines, it was a leather satchel full of- strange looking supplies.

Illumina got up from the stool she was sitting on with a grunt, grabbing her robes that she had taken off & put on the table next to the stool.

bro reinhardts interlude really fucking me up. just like. ok so the story involved more or less actually learning what reinhardts Deal was and why she's important and we learn that the status of grand marshall within illumina is a symbol with a face attatched quite literally described as "if the sky loses its light and falls to earth then the grand marshall is meant to hold the sky up and shine for the world" and in decidng a grand marshall not only is there a rigorous bttle royale style test where all candidates compete until one is literally left standing among the corpses but afterwards its implied that they then undergo experimental augmentation in order to become the perfect supersoldier NOT ONLY THAT but we learn that reinhardt ended up having to abandon her two closest friends to their deaths because two soldiers were not worth the countless losses it would take to do so which is why shes so intent on settling matters with denier/forsakin on her own because she feels its her responsibility not as a soldier but in honor of their once friendship. BUT. its later revealed that the mission where this happened is highly implied to have BEEN the trial for the position of grand marshall so the ruling committee for illumina consigned hundreds of their best soldiers to their deaths in order to make one perfect leader to market as their savior and. Reinhardt knows all this far after the fact and is just like "well thats life" but even then she believes that it doesnt really matter if there is a new grand marshall or not because above all she genuinely believes the ruling committee of illumina severely underestimates the drive of people to survive so even if she dies or loses her title shes fine with it because it doesn't matter who is the symbol for the future just as long as there is someone to be a hero to the people, and there always WILL be a hero who rises no matter the odds

This Illumina wears long robes with sleeves that go over his hands. Their wing drags on the floor with the long robe and scars littering half of his face where he is missing a horn. The other horn is cracked or.. seems to be cracking. He looks tired and unkept.

"...Thy the one ov'r hath heard about.."

Illumina looks her alternate up & down, her face faltering pity. What a mess they were.

"You've heard of me? I'm unsure if I should be flattered or not," she folds her own wing, her wing large & lacking feathers. It was molting season. "What brings you here? & if I may ask, what happened to you? You look unwell."

"Dove...It is imperative that you cease this behavior before you inflict additional distress on yourself and your siblings..."

It steps closer to her, trying to take in what this version looks like. It never got a good look at them before. Their giant tail sways slowly, frustrated.

"... Your perspective on salvation is nothing more than a form of torment.."

Illumina is...alarmed to say the least, she tenses up, her expression harshening as she looks the strange figure up & down. She huffs.

"& how would you know? Who are you to tell me that I'm in the wrong?" Her feathers ruffle, her brows furrowed. "This is my destiny, to bring light & salvation. Perhaps you are misguided like everyone else."

She looks around out of the corner of her eye- good, Ghostwalker was there. She needed backup if things got messy...

"Quite interesting we might say...is this Illumina a spawn of devilish ideals as well?~"

His giggles echo when there is no place for the voice to echo. He floats off the ground like he is swimming in the air, not giving a care about what the two are doing....

The two are having tea, Illumina's demeanor immediately changes when she hears him.

She goes silent, freezing up. Her eyes begin to grow brighter, her feathers ruffling. Envy, disgust, & complete & utter hatred boil inside of her, beginning to leak out.

Her face darkens, making her glowing eyes even more alarming. Her hands tremble slightly from the hatred that's consuming her, the teacup in her hand shaking.

She sets it down on the small plate it sits on, slowly turning to look at the other, she stares at him with eyes burning with disgust & hate.

Ghostwalker seems to take note of this, as he pauses, raising a brow, still holding his own teacup. He doesn't utter a word though.

"You." Is all she says, her voice low & grim. She spreads out her wing slightly as a warning.

"Hello?" Medkit looks more exhausted then the last time he visited, his outfit more wrinkly. "I... I was sent here.." It sounds so tired, its eyebags worse then usual.

The two seemed to be tinkering with some...strange artifact. They both abruptly turn around to stare at him, Illumina mumbling something to Ghostwalker along the lines of 'deal with him', before she turns back to continue what she was doing.

Ghostwalker begins to approach him, slowly but steadily. He halts soon enough, leaving some space between him & the other.

"Hello, how may I assist you?" His tone is deadpan, devoid of emotion as per usual. Its creepy.

"...you're not Mr. Feathers...at least..you don't feel like Mr. Feathers...and the other looks like Uncle Ghosty, but doesn't feel like Uncle Ghosty...you looks scary.."

*He tilts his head at Illumina and Ghostwalker*

Illumina huffs, turning away with extra sass in her movements, not even responding to the poor kid.

Ghostwalker observes the kid, tilting his head to the side a little too far to be considered natural. His neck makes an audible crack.

"I believe you have us confused for other people," Ghostwalker's tone is stern, his voice like a ghost's. It sounds...far, & echoey. "& Illumina is not male. You must have us confused for our potential counterparts."
