"Woman Is Sentenced To Reformatory Term," Toronto Globe. October 31, 1933. Page 14. ---- Found guilty by a General Sessions jury a week ago on a charge of attempted abortion, Mrs. Mary Thompson was sentenced by Judge O'Connell yesterday to a term of two years, less a day, plus an indeterminate period, not to exceed three months, in the Ontario Reformatory. His Honor, in passing sentence, remarked that the offense for which the accused was tried is punishable by life imprisonment. "I am showing leniency because of the strong recommendations for mercy made by the jury," he said.

My Day with Bob Evans
This incredibly flattering and beautifully composed photograph was taken this morning after breakfast at our beloved Bob Evans restaurant, this one just north of Lansing in DeWitt.  We were driving south on US127 from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant where, the night before, I’d given a long anticipated talk to the local student Planned Parenthood chapter about the illegal/unsafe…

"The number of teenage abortions in Finland fell by 66% between 2000 and 2023, its public health institute THL said on Monday, attributing the reduction to the offer of free contraception to adolescents and compulsory sex education in schools.
Finland also passed a law in 2022 liberalising abortion, at a time of deep divisions over abortion rights in Europe and court rulings in the U.S. that restricted access to terminations of unwanted pregnancies for millions of people there.
The number of abortions among women under 20 rose during the 1990s in Finland, which led the Nordic country to respond at the start of the 2000s by making morning-after pills available without prescription from 15 years of age and sexual education compulsory in all schools.
"We can assume that sexual education plays a significant role," THL's research professor Mika Gissler told Reuters, adding that increased access to contraception from a young age was another factor behind the change.
The number of abortions fell 66% to 722 in 2023 from 2,144 in 2000 among all teenagers aged 19 or younger in Finland, while the drop was even steeper at 78% among those under 18 in the same period, THL's statistics showed.
"Since the latter half of the 2010s, the decline in the number of young people's abortions has also been influenced by the introduction of free contraception in many welfare regions," THL wrote in a report...
Under the 2022 liberalisation, Finland from September 2023 stopped requiring women to give a reason for having an abortion, making it available upon a pregnant person's request during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
[Note: That's actually not a very long window for abortion! Many conservative states in the US have actually instituted 12-week bans, and it's caused terrible upheaval and limits to medical services. Sounds like Finland should liberalize further, imho! Still, important progress!]
THL said it was too early to conclude whether the legislative change, which took effect last year, will have an impact on the number of abortions."

If abortion becomes illegal nationwide in the US, it won’t look like The Handmaid’s Tale
It will look the same. With things changing under the surface
Because that has already happened once
Before the revolution, abortion up to “the quickening” (when the fetus begins to move in the womb, usually 18-21 weeks. A point before which most abortions take place nowadays) was broadly socially accepted in Britain and its colonies. There were no laws against abortion at any point in pregnancy, however. That didn’t start until the early 19th century, with Connecticut being the first state to outlaw abortion in 1821…but only abortion AFTER the quickening. New York was the first state to criminalize all abortions in 1829, with pre-quickening procedures as a misdemeanor and post-quickening as a felony
Many of those women could read and write; all of the free ones were allowed to. Some of them could speak multiple languages. Some of them had extensive knowledge of art, history, culture, mathematics, and political science. Some owned property or businesses. Most of them had family, friends, even husbands, who loved them and respected them. They had interests. They had ways of expressing themselves, through their clothing or hobbies or any other available means. And yet, they lost their bodily autonomy
The Handmaid’s Tale doesn’t scare me because rolling back women’s rights doesn’t have to look like a sci-fi dystopia. if we go by history, it looks more like a Regency romance

going into manner of death you may think this is a show about an adult man with an adult job (performing autopsies on his childhood friends), but the further you get, the more clear it becomes that this is actually a show about an adult man with way too many adult jobs (he also treats patients in the ER, gets called in for emergency surgery, and juggles several potentially connected murder investigations as an unpaid side gig). no wonder literally every single person around him keeps randomly handing him food, even though we know he's a good cook. with only twenty-four hours in a day, it's a miracle he even finds the time to be weird and domestic with his prime murder suspect and their pet cactus

"Term Given Abortionist," Windsor Star. January 12, 1943. Page 10. --- Mrs. Cambridge Is Third Sent to Reformatory in Month --- For the third time within a month, Windsor court handed down a sentence of two years less a day against a person guilty of procuring an abortion, when Mrs. Jessie "Jerry" Cambridge, of Chilver road, was sentenced yesterday afternoon in Windsor police court.
Mrs. Cambridge elected summary trial by Magistrate D. M. Brodie and pleaded guilty. She will serve her sentence in the Ontario Mercer reformatory.
ARRESTED AUGUST 27 Mrs. Cambridge was arrested on August 27 after months of investigation by Detectives J. Mahoney and S. Royan. The offence for which she was tried was said to have occurred an May 9, 1942.
Until yesterday, Mrs. Cambridge had not been asked to make either an election as to how she would be tried er a pies. Although no court was scheduled for yesterday afternoon, she informed her counsel of her decision and was brought to court. She had been free on $7,500 bail.
Evidence was taken in yesterday's court in spite of Mrs. Cambridge's plea of guilty. This was just as a precaution in case she should decide to appeal the case, providing she thought the sentence she received in the lower court was too severe.
STATEMENT READ Crown Attorney James 8. Allan, K.C., read into the record a statement signed by the complainant who testified yesterday that it was true.
The statement told of not one abortion but two, one in 1941 and another in 1942. After becoming sick following a miscarriage, the complainant said she was advised by Mrs. Cambridge to see a doctor. She testified that she had paid Mrs. Cambridge $35 for the illegal operation.
Crown Attorney Allan pointed out to the court that Cecil Hallett and Fred Schelka, both of whom had been found guilty of the similar charges in Windsor courts in recent weeks, were given sentences of two years leas one day in the reformatory. Magistrate Brodie then passed the same sentence en Mrs. Cambridge.

Personal ramblings because I am MAD.
I can’t have children. Back in 2016, my husband and I suffered a miscarriage that nearly took my life. I’m one of the women you’ve probably read about here of late where missed miscarriages are concerned. I nearly died and had to have an emergency D&E thanks to a blood clot the size of a cantaloupe taking shape in my uterus. Yes, you read that correctly. A cantaloupe. The nurses and my surgeon were shocked. I feel incredibly lucky however because it happened during a time where I didn’t have to worry about receiving the surgery or not. And the staff who took care of me were incredibly kind.
I live in Texas. This election has hit me very deeply.
Moving forward, I have good friends with children and I’ve been able to be a part of their lives. Two of which are in their younger years, and another is a teenager. It makes my heart unfathomably happy to get to be around them, to hear their laughter, listen to their stories I can barely understand because they’re 4 and 5 years old 😂🥰, and help the teenager just by being someone they can speak with freely.
They’re our found family. We’re all having Christmas and Thanksgiving together since none of us have close ties to our family. We’re all either LGBTQIA+, POC, or we’ve cut our family out due to abuse.
My found family means everything to me. We’ve all been there for one another. And we also all play D&D together, cook together, I help meal prep, we give each other rides when we need them, we’ve helped one another with home supplies, gas money when we have it, etc.
I’m so fucking terrified for my family. One of them is a female veteran who was sexually abused in the military. Another is a Hispanic male in the health care industry working in behavioral therapy for abused children. Our son, as we all call him, only turned 21 this year, a black man who I’d die to protect without hesitation. He’s our fucking baby boy and I’m so angry, hurt, upset, and scared for him. He’s the first person I thought of when all this shit started, especially with the text messages which were sent out. Fortunately he didn’t get one.
These are people and they’re real. They’re not the enemy.
They’re my family.
This is why we’re cutting people who voted for Trump out of our lives. If you voted for Trump, you voted to harm my family. I may just be one person, yes. But know that I hate you. I hate you. I fucking hate you.
And I’m not alone.
We all hope you live the lives you deserve, pigs. And when you realize what you’ve done, when you need an abortion, when your child is trans, when you fall in love with a POC and learn the terror they live in on the daily basis, know this:
You voted for Donald Trump. You did this to yourself. And you may find compassion from others.
You will receive none from me.

I had to submit photos to chat gpt for almost every amendment outside of MM + abortion on my ballot because the wording was so confusing or I had no idea what they were talking about.
It makes me wonder — I’m college educated, took AP classes in HS. How TF do you expect run of the mill Americans to understand this shit? Why is everything worded in such a complex way? I literally couldn’t have voted with any real idea of what I was voting for had I not had access to my phone + 20 mins to ask about everything on the ballot.

There’s a lot to be explored in Zeke’s character and backstory both within the context of being a soldier growing up in what seems to be a very racist military dictatorship but also within like—every aspect of his character being a walking checklist of someone who’s been abused/+ dehumsnised; him willing to use his literal spinal fluid (not exactly something Zeke can obtain on his own….) for plans, the entire forced euthanasia plan that he came up with as a teenager , the numerous times he’s seen shirtless when most if not all characters rarely are clearly implying he’s a lot more comfortable with it, the way he was chained in the Paths, him being unable to scream lest he creates monsters. So many things that he’s willing to do feel so invasive, it’s really morbid once you seriously start reading between the lines and it raises up a hullva lot of questions, especially in relation to both Grisha who first and foremost used Zeke as a mole and Tom Ksaver who both had no queries on the forced euthanasia plan and who was the prior holder of the Beast Titan that built up a connection with Zeke for years before Zeke became the Beast Titan via eating Ksaver.
The fact that even long after a decade he’s so dead set on the belief that Grisha abused Eren to the point where he’s willing to kidnap Eren raises questions for me, the fact that he stiffened up when Grisha hugged him in the Paths is Something and the fact that his death is literally him prompting Levi to kill him to cut the connection between Ymir and the Jaeger blood becomes a lot more skeevey once you start putting the whole picture together.
Obviously I don’t believe Isayama intended anything serious by it or we would’ve seen something when Eren and Zeke were going through the man’s memories but irl to me it reads like some seriously fucked up long-term conditioning and childhood abuse.

"Brothers" Discuss: Did Donald Trump lie?

The Germany-based company responded to a request for comment from Just The News.“The resemblance is striking,” the company told Just The News. Read more on this story from Just The News reported: Manufacturers of the earrings said on Wednesday that the resemblance between Harris’ earrings and their audio earrings “is striking.” “We do not know whether Mrs. Harris wore one of our products. The resemblance is striking and while our product was not specifically developed for the use at presidential debates, it is nonetheless suited for it,” Malte Iversen, managing director at Icebach Sound, told Just the News on Wednesday. “To ensure a level playing field for both candidates, we are currently developing a male version and will soon be able to offer it to the Trump campaign. The choice of colour is a bit challenging though as orange does not go well with a lot of colours. “Currently, we are unfortunately out of stock and also busy preparing a lawsuit against a big Chinese tech company breaching our patents,” Iversen continued. “We are talking to investors in order to ramp up operations accordingly and are confident that we will ship again very soon.”
As The Gateway Pundit readers probably know, the Harris campaign called for a rematch immediately following Tuesday’s debate in Philadelphia.
Trump's Response on Truth Social:
KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!
When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, “I WANT A REMATCH.” Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate.
She and Crooked Joe have destroyed our Country, with millions of criminals and mentally deranged people pouring into the USA, totally unchecked and unvetted, and with Inflation bankrupting our Middle Class.
Everyone knows this, and all of the other problems caused by Kamala and Joe – It was discussed in great detail during the First Debate with Joe, and the Second Debate with Comrade Harris. She was a no-show at the Fox Debate, and refused to do NBC & CBS.
Linsey Davis & Kamala are sorors.

"Freed of Murder, Dr. Pratt Gets 5 Years On Other Charges," Ottawa Citizen. April 20, 1934. Page 13. ---- Smiths Falls Doctor Pleads Guilty to Illegal Operations ---- Jury Renders Not Guilty Verdict on Charge of Murdering Miss Eva McLean, Housekeeper, After Three Hours and Fifteen Minutes Deliberation. Then Half An Hour Later The Aged Physician, Arraigned On Lesser Counts, Admits Guilt, And Is Sentenced At Once. ---- (By Staff Reporter.) PERTH, Ont… April 19 - Dr. Wilton Pratt, 71-year-old physician of Smiths Falls, late this afternoon pleaded guilty to ten charges of illegal operations at the Lanark County Assizes here and was sentenced to five years in Kingston penitentiary on each indictment by Mr. Justice P. J. Kerwin. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Just half an hour before the illegal operation charges were proceeded with. Dr. Pratt was acquit-
ted on a charge of murder. It is Just a week ago today that the murder trial of the doctor started.
The few words of Mr. Justice Kerwin's sentence of Dr. Pratt were a warning against irregularities amongst practitioners of medicine.
The doctor was charged with the murder of his 60-year-old house- keeper, Miss Eva Elizabeth McLean. who lost her life in a mysterious fire in the doctor's residence on Daniel street, Smiths Falls, early on the morning of December 31 last. The illegal operations on which the doctor was charged ranged from the year 1931 to 1933 inclusive.
Jury Out Three Hours. It took the jury three hours and fifteen minutes to render the verdict on the murder charge. They left the courtroom at 12.55 o'clock this noon and returned at 4.10 this afternoon with the verdict.
There was a delay of ten minutes after the jury returned to the court-room until the accused was brought before the bar. Peter Smiley of Perth, foreman of the jury, was asked if they had agreed upon a verdict.
"Yes, we have," he replied.
The courtroom was silent. The prisoner appeared nervous. He twisted his hands about a handkerchief.
J. S. L. McNeely, clerk of the court, then read aloud the findings of the jury, "Not Guilty." There as a slight outburst of applause from the spectators as the clerk read the verdict but this was immediately checked by Sheriff J. H. Ebbs.
Relief Manifest. Dr. Pratt showed his relief. He looked in the direction of his counsel with an expression of satisfaction.
His daughter and sister who had been constant attendants in court since the opening looked at one another. A big burden was off their minds. During the long ordeal on the capital charge, Dr. Pratt bore up well. Near the closing chapter of one of the most celebrated trials in this part of the country, the doctor seemed to brighten. He took more interest in proceedings than he did when first arraigned. He looked much brighter and his general condition was announced by the jail physician, Dr. W. A. Meighen, to be improved.
Jury Dismissed Immediately the verdict was rendered on the murder charge. Mr. Justice Kerwin discharged the doctor on the capital charge but announced that he was still held in custody on the illegal operation charges. The jury was than thanked by His Lordship and dismissed.
Before proceeding with the hearing of the illegal operation charges. Mr. Justice Kerwin said there would be a fifteen-minute recess in order to give defence counsel time to consider how they were going to plead. He said the other charges would be commenced when court resumed.
With the prisoner facing ten charges of performing illegal operations, court once again resumed. The doctor was in the prisoner's box as the judge took his place. The accused rose and the clerk of the court read out the first illegal operation charge. "Guilty" replied the doctor's counsel. The next one was proceeded with and in each of the remaining indictments counsel
for the physician repeated the one word "guilty." There was a hush over the crowded courtroom while the in- dictments were being read. Not a person moved. The prisoner hung his head. When guilt was admit- ted on each of the ten illegal oper- ation charges, Mr. Justice Kerwin passed sentence,
Judge's Remarks. In passing sentence, Mr. Justice J. P. Kerwin, who presided over the assizes, said: 'Prisoner, you have pleaded guilty to ten indictments in each of which it was charged that you committed the offence of abortion. It appears from the indictments that these occurrences range from the year 1931 to 1933 inclusive and that one individual went to you on three different occasions. This indicates that when the public is aware that a medical practitioner is ready and willing to do this sort of thing which is a serious offence against the law, it soon becomes known and the number of indictments indicates the extent of the knowledge so far as you are concerned."
Warning to All "While I take into consideration your age, I cannot overlook the gravity of each offence and that coupled with the number of offences to which you have pleaded guilty renders it necessary that the sentence I impose be one that will give notice to all and particularly to the members of the medical profession that this may not be done with impunity.
"The sentence of the court is that you be imprisoned in the penitentiary for five years on each indictment, the sentences to run concurrently."
All eyes in the courtroom were focussed on the prisoner as he was led out and down the front stairs of the court house. He was immediately taken to the jail where he will await his removal to the penitentiary.
It was announced tonight by John Oates, governor of the jail, that Dr. Pratt would be removed to the penitentiary as soon as arrangements can be made. It will be either tomorrow or the next day.
Not Nervous The governor also said that Dr. Pratt was not showing any outward signs of distress over the sentence. "He did not appear nervous," he said, "and when taken his supper ate it in the usual way."
"I thought I would get a longer term," said Dr. Pratt to J. Palmer. jailer, as he was being taken back to his cell following the sentence.
Following the dismissal of the jury after their verdict on the murder charge, the foreman, Mr. Smiley, forwarded the following note of appreciation to J. H. Ebbs, sheriff of Lanark county. "We the gentlemen of the jury of the Dr. Pratt murder trial wish to convey to you and your staff our appreciation for the care you have given to us during our term of office as jurymen. Our every want and comfort has been attended to. Thanking you again. Signed on behalf of the jury."
The murder trial, the first in this county in the past quarter of a century, has attracted widespread interest from the start. Every day the small courtroom was filled with spectators and many were unable to gain admittance.
The assizes opened on Tuesday last week. The charges against Dr. Pratt were the only ones to come before the court. There were no civil actions. The grand jury retired a week ago Tuesday afternoon at 2.15 o'clock to consider the murder and ten illegal operation indictments. They were considering the murder indictment until Thursday last week near noon when they brought in a true bill. The trial was commenced that afternoon and the grand jury once more retired this time to consider the other indictments. Late that afternoon true bills on all the indictments were returned.
Court sat for seven days hearing evidence on the murder charge. There was one night session. Twenty-seven witnesses were called by the Crown and ten by defence including Dr. Pratt, who yesterday afternoon took the stand in his own defence. Forty-two exhibits were filed by the Crown and none by the defence. The exhibits ranged in size from a large bedstead all the way down to a tiny hypodermic needle.
C. W. Bell, K.C., M.P., of Hamilton conducted the prosecution, assisted by J. Dulmage, Crown prosecutor for Lanark county, Donald C. Smith of Smiths Falls was chief defence lawyer assisted by W. W. Pollock of Carleton Place.
Arrangements for the trial were looked after in an efficient manner by Sheriff J. H. Ebbs and Dan Lee court crier.
[AL: Pratt was 70, no criminal record, a doctor, and convict #3427. Remarkably, he did his whole term, and was released by expiration in January 1938.]
