   I always assumed they were the same group but I never saw anyone else mention it (so thanks!).  Probably because, as they said, it is never mentioned.  Ch. 2 is also pretty hilarious as a SW because Acina tells you about what it’s like to be a Sith even though you were the god damn Wrath *smh at BioWare’s continued shitty writing*

1: What’s your OC’s biggest insecurity and how would they react if someone pointed it out to them?Her success coming from luck instead of skill - Jai knows she is really good at what she does, but whenever someone tells her she is where she is just because of luck her self-confidence kind of falters and she begins doubting herself. That is, inwardly at least. On the outside she would put on a huge grin, shrug and say something along the lines of “Well, what can you do. The Galaxy just loves me.” (Also possible finger guns, because that’s the kind of person she is.)

7: Does your OC have any irrational phobias?Earthquakes, specifically being swallowed by the ground during an earthquake. Makeb was not a fun time for her.

12: What is one of the most primary things your OC feels that is missing from their life?

A sense of community. She doesn’t want to settle down and start a family or something, but she grew up in a kind of “it takes a village to raise a child” place and sometimes she really misses bonds like that. Which might be why she latches onto any interesting looking Miralians she meets.

19: What boosts your OC’s confidence the most?

Accomplishing a heist or similar things that people tell her are impossible to pull off.

22: How does your OC usually show affection? Are they openly romantic or more restricted with their affectionate emotions?

Jai really doesn’t believe in holding back your emotions. If she likes someone they will know it - and everyone in their vicinity too. It took Akaavi some time getting used to Jai loudly (and slightly drunkenly) proclaiming how amazing and cute and hot she thought the Zabrak was and telling people to look at her awesome girlfriend because !!!!! So yeah. Definitely not shy about being affectionate.

She really does need to get her shit together. She is really bad about it. But she and Akaavi are definitely A+++. (1/2) Hey I just wanted to let you know that back in April Currents in Biology posted a link to an article written in the Huffington Post blog section (a bastion of scientific minds, I know) that called autism an "epidemic". The article was titled "It's Autism Awareness Day: What the American Medical Association Isn't Telling You" and was filled with the alarmist, ableist drivel you'd expect to find in something of that ilk.

(2/2) It pissed me off so much to see that pseudo-scientific bullshit posted on a tumblr that I enjoyed following for its cool articles, so I figured as a fellow tumblr biologist you’d like to know.

So three unpopular opinions…

SWTOR: While I do think the agent story is the best class story, it also feels really really overrated. It’s not some transcendental story experience, and its final act is rushed and underwhelming.

Fandoms (in general): It’s remarkable to me that so many people that complain about how their favorite character/story/whatever is treated or talked about inevitably end up lashing out at/are assholes toward other fans about other things. If you’re going to throw yourself a pity party because someone doesn’t like your favorite character, it’s probably best that you not obsessively post/talk about how much you hate/want to kill/harm multiple other characters.

Bioware fandoms: It often times feels like people judge companions/NPCs based solely on how much they kowtow to the player character, to the point where even the hint of disagreement or having their own opinion is treated as treason/something worthy of death. Disapprove of a character choice? They’re a bitch/asshole. Didn’t approve of the player extorting money from starving orphans? They’re a bitch/asshole. Have a motivation other than blindly following the player character? They’re a bitch/asshole.

It comes across like these players are less interested in an RPG than they are a story simulator where they can romance whoever they want, do whatever they want and are treated as perfect heroes for doing so. And - to be fair to them - I do feel like Bioware’s writing often times supports that idea (especially in the Mass Effect trilogy as time goes on)

We've never talked, but I saw your swtor slave au come across my dash and was honestly pretty disgusted. I've admired your art and your other writing, so it blew my mind a bit that you would write and promote something that creates a relationship dynamic where one character is a slave/lover of another. You're essentially capitalizing on slavery for your fic aesthetic. For someone who regularly posts pro-social justice posts on their tumblr I honestly expected better.

Hi! I’m glad you say you like the other content I produce - If you read my main fic Iustitia, you’d know that I write about slavery A LOT. Mostly talking about how horrible it is, and how characters (Vette and Gimrizh) deal with both internalized and societal racism. Fun fact! Writing about something is not the same as condoning it. I can write about a dynamic like this to explore power play between these characters without actually saying their relationship is okay. In fact, I do! It’s called tagging! See, when I tag this fic (which I did, both on AO3 and in the art post’s description) as ‘unhealthy relationship dynamic’ that means that I know it’s not an okay relationship and I’m also telling readers that it’s not okay. People can be very aware and educated about these terrible issues and still write about them in a rational manner without ever acting as though these issues are or should be acceptable. There’s a difference between justification and exploration. 

I appreciate your dedication to shaming me for this though - all that vagueblogging AND sending a similar ask to my beta? Clearly you wanted me to know that you were pissed off. I tag everything about this fic as #Libenter in case you want to block the tag

   I never understood why everyone was so dismissive of Skelly.  His theory about the extensive mining was right, and it made sense.  But I guess the narrative needed someone to shit on, so why not make it a veteran with PTSD who suffers multiple instances of physical abuse, including by our “hero” Kanan.   

i mean the cynical and likely explanation is that they are dismissive of him *because* he has PTSD (so he’s mentally ill)  -_-

but also hey, he’s one of the most relatable characters in the book so far, IMO

i wasn’t really *surprised* that kanan hit him because i was forewarned he was a dick in this book, but.  non surprise does not mean i think its okay. it’s not good ™

also, i’m p sure skelly and hera have been the only characters so far who have been consistently thinking of others. Him w/ the planet going to crack (explode? something) and hera w/ her general working on the rebellion thing, rescuing skelly when she had the chance...

   Oh I definitely agree.  In addition to the author’s treatment of Hera (her using her sexuality to get what she wants but it’s okay because she’s an empowered lady *eyeroll*), the constant abuse of Skelly by all the other characters was infuriating and completely unwarranted.   

oh yeah

some parts of hera here are spot on, like when she is trying to recruit skelly and zaluna and she reads exactly like rebels hera. also when she’s doing er planning on the rebellion and her mission

but sexy as tool parts are definitely not those times -_- its like... i swear, this book and another book for a TV show I read earlier (one of the dark angel tie-in-novels) are making me think male writers should get like... a quick test before they write any female characters, and if they can’t hide their clear crush on them they should just.... not do it.

and the skelly stuff is . yup. already talked about that so dont know what more to say in addition.

its like there are definitely infuriating parts of this book all right

My main is a merc with Arsenal and I love it.  The priming shot+tracer missle+blazing bolts combo is a great way to deal a lot of damage.  I've never tried innovative ordnance (I tend to stick to my first choice).  And mercs still have death from above after the 5.0 update, which is always fun.

Oh, thank you! And yes, one of my reasons for creating a merc was to get Death from Above back. The replacement for Powertechs is OK, but lacks the sheer fun of the original. Honestly, it’s kind of bland as far as animation, etc.  And thanks for mentioning the combo, that’ll save some time figuring out!

Since I have two Powertechs already, I started a Mercenary to level up during the XP bonus event. A merc was one of the first characters I ever leveled (still love her,) but haven’t played one in years, and the disciplines have changed a lot. I don’t do tanks or healers. So, what are thoughts on Arsenal or Innovative Ordnance as disciplines? I can remember using skills from both of those, so it’s hard for me to guess much about them.

   First Kallus and now Arcann.  You’re riling up all the mediocre male character fans by pointing out legitimate problems with their writing :>  But seriously how hell-bent on defending a character do you have to be to miss the point so completely?  It’s like his stans just see Arcann’s name and assume they need to come defend him when you were only making a point about an ableist trope.

its like i didn’t even say anything negative about arcann?   i mean i love vaylin, but her writing was ableist and i wish it wasn’t. you should want better things for your fave characters

   I definitely always choose Aitalla too.  Raffid is super skeevy and I hate that he’s one of the one-night stand options for the female BH.   His “flirting” is gross and creepy, not unlike a lot of the male character flirting in the rest of the game.   

ah i usually play on a male toon for bh so that may be why i didnt notice some of his skeeviness

but yeah lots of the guy flirting is really skeevy its like... why...
