Okay, not to defend Gotham War or anything, but I think I'm talking myself into liking what I see it's trying to do. Starting with some great tags on this post:
#i get why people are hating on it i really really do. trust me#but TO BE FAIR... zdarsky has been making it overwhelmingly clear that bruce is SERIOUSLY unwell right now#like it's been nonstop Horrors for him for like. over a dozen issues straight. with no rest or time to process. and he doesn't have alfred#who was a HUGE part of his support system not to mention the finances etc etc#iirc there's even a panel that pretty much outright states that this is more of an issue of control than morality#and that includes the choosing sides thing like the batkids seem more concerned w how bruce is going off the fucking rails than#just the moral aspects#anyway (via @clownprince)
#Batman#Bruce Wayne#REAL#REAL REAL REAL#LIKE. Zur En Arrh is a LITERAL Defense Mechanism going Malignant at this point#Not only that but throughout Zdarsky's run there's been allusions to illnesses and Bruce Not Having A Good Time#Not Having a Good Time and Not Having Time At All to take stock of the sheer What The Fuck-ery that's been going on recently#Because it's been a CONSTANT steam of What The Fuck-ery nonstop#And the Worse is yet to come if one considers the future issues synopsis and the ''I am a Gun'' story by Zdarsky#(At most I'm a little bit concerned over how Zdarsky will try to wrap this up‚ but that's a normal concern especially about Comics)#(Especially Batman Comics considering how often Editorial likes to... do things) (via @kaosvrow)
I agree with so much of the criticism of Gotham War, especially that the arguments for or against Selina's plans are absolute garbage by characters who should be making better arguments and that the other characters are being used as bobbleheads instead of actually giving them their canon personalities--and, okay, I will also point out that in the VERY FIRST ISSUE, Selina's plan gets someone killed and so I'm willing to extend some grace that the story isn't trying to push forward that either way is actually right, I honestly don't think it's about that. I think it's a story about Bruce Wayne's mental state, because Zdarsky's been building this up for awhile now, like the issue immediately prior to Knight Terrors? Shows us Bruce's mental state is ALREADY absolute TRASH right then:
Zur-En-Arrh was already leaking through the seams of his mind, he was already feeling the impending doom of everything he cared about being burned away, that his mind literally couldn't watch his kids being happy and together and getting along without feeling like it was all burning to ash.
And then Knight Terrors happened, which was one more thing digging hard, boney fingers into his trauma, and he handled it pretty well in the moment, but it's such a giant, non-stop pile of stress on a mind that is already damaged to hell and back because of his trauma.
Further, the very first issue of the Gotham War storyline? The very first panel, the one that sets up the stage of what's going to happen, makes a very clear point about how this is about Bruce fracturing:
And then on the very next page, Zur-En-Arrh is literally stalking at the bars of the cage around Bruce's mind.
And then Bruce wakes up and it's immediately more establishing just how worried everyone is about him because so much has been piled on lately:
Bruce hides his missing hand from his family, just like he's trying to hide how scraped thin he is right now, and goes out on patrol.
Where his internal monologue is all about how defensive he feels lately, how he feels like the years are catching up to him, how nothing feels right but this, making it clear that Bruce is hanging onto Batman with a death grip because it's the only thing that feels stable to him right now.
And all of this is in the first TEN PAGES of the first issue, this is our set-up, this is our foundation, this is what we're being given to understand what this story is about. Then Batman #137 happens and it's literally ALL ABOUT BRUCE'S MENTAL SPACE, that Selina's plan is the catalyst, not the driving point behind all of it. Again, I'm in 100% agreement that the Batkids are acting like cardboard cutouts because you will never get me to believe that they didn't notice crime going down or that they wouldn't be pointing out that Gotham's wealthy are just going to start making their security lethal in response or that the Court of Owls won't step in, that this is not a long term solution to giving these people lives beyond crime, or even that a lot of them should be agreeing with Bruce, that they don't get to decide who is an acceptable victim. But the story isn't really about changing up the way comics deal with crime, it's about even the Batkids are framing it in terms of how it's about Bruce. Jason is really the only one who seems onboard with trying out Selina's plan, but even his confrontation with Bruce isn't really about that, it's about all their baggage, their fight immediately becomes about how angry Jason is at the way Bruce has treated him. This fight isn't happening because Jason's a true believer in Selina's plan, it's happening because he's angry at Bruce and Bruce is in a shitty mental place, after all the non-stop horrors AND feeling like he's been betrayed by the kids who he thought understood that people being victims wasn't acceptable, and so he lashes out at Jason.
When they fight, it's not because they're siding against Bruce, it's because he's become unstable and dangerous. The why of it doesn't matter, it's not about that.
(And I'm actually okay with the way that fight happened because I can buy that, for example, Cass might be holding back against him, she's a stronger fighter than he is, but he's being ruthless because of the state he's in, while she might be feeling more cautious.) When they fight, it's not because they're siding against Bruce, it's because he's become unstable and dangerous. The why of it doesn't matter, it's not about that. Even further, when Bruce fights against his kids, he's wrong and biased, especially in the fight with Dick, who he thinks has a sloppy offensive and doesn't know darkness like he does--to which Dick just immediately cracks him in the face because, yeah, Dick Grayson does know darkness and Bruce isn't as untouchable as he's trying to make himself seem (because being Batman is all he has right now).
I think it's important that it's Dick who defies his expectations here, because this story is building off context of what happened between Selina and Bruce, that they were truly together for awhile, they were about to get married--Selina mentions that it the first issue, it's a major thorn in that conversation when she throws out how she doesn't believe that Gotham needs Batman anymore, it needs her.
She's giving him what he said he always wanted, she's giving him the thing that kept them apart, he should be happy, should they head to the church now? Saying that he won't because he wants to be Batman more than he wants to solve the city's problems.
The failed wedding between them is important in part because of what Selina's saying here, illustrating that both of them are bringing a lot of baggage to the table but also because of what else happened during that storyline, why the context is so important. Because that storyline dovetailed into one about Bane wanting to take over Gotham and he needed Batman unstable and distracted, which was working after Selina left him at the altar, he was a mess. But you know what was saving him at the time, bringing him back from the ledge? THIS KID:
Dick was the one poking and prodding at Bruce with jokes and warmth and care and it was working. He actually got Bruce to cry in front of him, to release some actual genuine emotion!
Dick makes Bruce more emotionally stable, to the point that Bane had to hire KGBeast to shoot Dick in the head just because he was so good at stabilizing Bruce--this is also why Dick's the one who says he'll go talk Bruce down off his moral ledge in Batman #137.
So, it's Dick that has to be the one to defy his expectations in the fight, has to be the one who breaks through Bruce's offense and knocks him down in what feels like a betrayal even when it isn't, because this isn't a story about who's right and who's wrong, it's a story about Bruce isolating himself because he's mentally fractured to hell and back, because he's not trusting his kids, he's still hurt by Selina leaving him, he's still grieving Alfred's death, he's run ragged physically and emotionally and mentally by a series of exhausting horrors piled on him, he's lost his family's fortune, he's not even living in his own family home anymore. (I focus on Dick here as an illustration of tying this back to previous examples of Bruce crumbling and important context that the storyline is drawing on, but Gotham War isn't really specifically about Bruce and Dick's relationship, but more about Bruce's relationship with all his kids, like Tim and Jason and Damian all have equally important moments. But it's a very direct example of how his children are a huge part of his support system and draw him back from the ledge of being just Batman and back into being Bruce.) That's why the issue ends with Bruce getting the papers telling him that the bank sold Wayne Manor to Vandal Savage, because it's one more thing that's stripping Bruce Wayne away from the character, and leaving him with nothing but Batman and Zur-En-Arrh. Gotham War isn't actually a story about a war for Gotham. It's a story about Bruce Wayne going out of control and everything is written to serve that. The characters' fights are catalyzed by Selina's plans, but they quickly become about Bruce's relationship with the characters. The narrative makes heavy-handed points about Bruce feeling like he's losing his grip, that he's hallucinating and talking to himself, that he is extremely mentally unwell right now. Everything Zdarsky's been writing (like especially the "I Am a Gun" storyline right before Knight Terrors) has been building up to fracturing Bruce Wayne.

an explanation for this image
so, did you guys know that Wato uploads youtube shorts from time to time? Neither did I! I didn’t go looking, either, I took a break from irl stuff to scroll mindlessly, and I’m met with fucking lore. Wato1876 is ruining my life.
So, the short (in video format because it’s easier to look through) can be found here.
So, what happens here? This is, as stated in the description, a clip from the prologue. And, since in the prologue, it jumpcuts to the future, this is what actually happens when wato falls down there.
What actually happens here? it’s the clip from the prologue- but instead of cutting to the future, with Omz Mask Wifies in the escape room, Wato falls down a bedrock tunnel into the white blob, facing a player/entity with an entirely black skin except for the Omz Mask, and then it starts an undertale fight (I don’t know how to explain it. It shows the classic red heart over their chest, and then it moves to the side like what happens in Undertale, iirc)
So, this is the infamous white blob room. But, there’s one crucial difference.
The redstone- which, in many maps is used to signify blood- is gone. So, likely, someone died in here.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know who.
We now can assume this is powdered snow, as Wato falls directly into the middle of it- but his landing is cut off, so we can’t be sure. @enlighten3d’s theory proposes that the Omz Mask is tied to this white blob. While interesting, I disagree- I think this is a trap made for Wato. Why? I don’t know. But powdered snow is an interesting block to be used to stop a player’s fall- it slows them down significantly, and they can start taking freezing damage. If this is a trap, then using powered snow to stop a fall gives the trapper a significant advantage. Otherwise, why not use water? This is a trap made for Wato.
Now, let’s be honest. I’m avoiding the main question here. Who the hell is this?
We have no idea. It wears the Omz Mask over an entirely black skin, and likely, it sets a trap for Wato. But that’s all we know about them. This figure has never been seen before.
Well, that’s not actually true.
@crowskullls pointed out that the Omz Mask can be seen watching the interrogation in the epilogue. But, this isn’t just any character with the mask. This is the same character in the white blob room. So, who is this character? I’m just going to be calling them the Omz Entity from now on (Omz Mask is too confusing, Omz is already a player).
I have two theories for what the Omz Entity is- 1, it is the original creator/wearer of the Omz Mask, and it wants it back, or 2, this is an entity/demon/something that controls the people wearing the mask.
Personally, I’m leaning towards the first theory for a couple of reasons- based on my theory, during the prologue, Omz Mask Wifies has already been created, and so Wato no longer has the Mask. If the Omz Entity wants it back, it makes sense to trap Wato- he likely has no idea that Wato no longer has the mask, but killing the person with the mask gives you the mask back. This also explains why he’s watching the interrogation in the epilogue. He’s looking for clues, or to see if either Kenadian or Wifies have the mask. Possibly, he is the person who kills Omz Mask Wifies. And if he’s the creator, it makes sense that it looks like he has it, even if he doesn’t.
And there’s the third theory that I haven’t mentioned- this is thing is made to fuck with Wato. This might be the person he mentioned watching him while falling down a pit when he’s being interrogated. And, as pointed out, the Omz Entity is watching the interrogation- watching Wato. Why? I don’t know.
This raises so many questions. Whatever went down in the white blob room, it wasn’t a lore sort of perma-death, as we see both characters later. So, what is the Omz Entity, why is it there, and what does it want? We don’t know. The theories I prefer are that it is the creator and wants it back, or that this thing is stalking Wato in particular. This does explain the random shot of the cabin from the outside- this is the perspective of the Omz Entity. That’s basically all we know about this character.
Honestly, I’m still very confused.
(@brain-empty)
#PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE let me know what y’all think and don’t take my work for it please go watch the short and see if I missed anything#kenadian#wifies#this is the best way a youtuber could ask me to turn on notifications because if any of them post and I miss it I will scream#wato is ruining my life as we speak#wato#wato1876#also yes I am just assigning these guys names.#we should make a discord or start dm-ing more bc i need to scream about this a bit#i’ve never been a theorist this is wild I hope this is coherent#KWW Collab

If you scroll back far enough you’ll see this account was mainly Umbrella Academy posting. I was OBSESSED with this show, especially when s3 came out despite the writing being objectively…iffy in some scenes. But I knew how GOOD the show could be, and hell, s3 WAS GOOD!
And then s4 happened.
And let’s just say
I’m disappointed :D
Spoilers for everything s4 here on out
Ok so watching this season was like being trapped in a burning building but you’re trying to rescue your things, but then you realize they’re also all on fire. I kept watching, thinking “oh, this is gonna lead to this” or “oh that’s a cool reference to that” and NOTHING HAPPENED???
Like in the beginning, with Alison. I thought for sure, everyone was just gonna not like her for a majority of the season, she does something really cool/saves them and then they go “ok, we aren’t gonna forgive you, because what you’ve done to all of us is not able to be forgiven, but we’re gonna try to be better and include each other in our lives”
Nope
They just forgave her off camera and she was just enjoying life with them
And so I’m like “ok, I can excuse that, besides there WAS a 6 year timeskip, maybe we’ll see something with th-“
Nope
Another thing, the sake bombs
My brother in christ Klaus THREW IT ON SOMEONE ELSE AND JUST??? THAT PERSON DIDNT GET HIS POWERS?? My partner legit turned to me and was like “oohhh he’s gonna get Klaus’ powers that’s gonna be so cool.”
But nope that guys never shown again!!
“Okay…” I say slightly nervous “but Klaus is objectively the fan favorite, they can’t fuck up his character”
But then they did. Now iirc, Vietnam wasn’t mentioned at all in s3, and if it was, it was minimum, but there were SO MANY INSTANCES TO BRING IT UP AND THEY JUST DIDNT??
And I tried to excuse it, but legit it was so obvious that they should’ve brought it up. Ignoring the fact Klaus GOT DAVES DOG TAGS BACK AND SAID/DID NOTHING BUT LOOK AT THEM?? you have the scene where everyone is shooting as each other and he’s hiding in the hallowed out part of a grave (which, idk, reminds me of TRENCHES??? Which I’m like 80% sure was used in the Vietnam war) and also, did NOTHING. He covered his ears and I’m sitting there, thinking “oh maybe a flashback”
Nope!
MY BROTHER IN CHRIST I CANT STOP EXCUSING IT, BUT I DO
Cuz when he got locked in the coffin, I’m thinking “oh perfect time to bring up the mausoleum-“
Nope
(Also the way the show tried to make it a joke that he was being used for sex to get money left such a bad taste in my mouth. Like we physically saw him get SA’d and just…it’s a joke??? Like already we had that gross SA of Luther in s3 does NO ONE UNDERSTAND HOW SENSITIVE OF A TOPIC THAT IS??)
Then, obvs there’s the fuckup with Five
At this point, I’m beaten and broken. I have a pounding headache, the dogs looking at me and my partner funny cuz we keep screaming and- HOLY FUCK FIVE IS KISSING LILA
Five, the physically-25-mentally-65 year old, whose ENTIRE CHARACTER MOTIVATION IS HIS FAMILY
Is kissing Lila, the 30 something WIFE OF HIS BROTHER
His brother. Who he saw DEAD IN A FUCKING APOCALYPSE.
I just ??? It’s so bad??? Why??? Did you think??? That was a good idea??? No one asked for that??
(+ there was no reason to include that arc, or the fact that Lila and Diego were unhappy in their marriage. Lila, maybe I can understand, but Diego had NO REASON. Get rid of those arcs, fucking nothing changes)
And I can talk about the bracelet inconsistency, or how they only made Luther a stripper for shock value, but this post is long enough so I’m just gonna mention one final grievance
The ending.
SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES
Now, I’ve enjoyed media where they permanently kill off the main characters. Like Magnus Archives (something I frequently would post here)
In the season five finale, they kill of Jon and Martin because it’s the only way to save their world. It makes sense, Jon is already the Pupil of the Ceaseless Watcher + for him and martin, it’s genuinely the only way they can have a decent ending
If they were to keep living, they’d doom the world to constantly be in the eyepocalypse. They address what could’ve been a plot hole by saying “no, living isn’t an option, as much as we want it to be.”
And it’s a satisfying ending! Ask any TMA fan, and they’ll agree that, while sad, it was a perfect ending. So when Umbrella Academy tried to do the same I was…confused? Because that truly WASNT THE ONLY OPTION??
The scene with all the Fives where they’re like “oh btw your family causes the apocalypse every time” I thought we all kinda new that by now….
But also it wasn’t. I am firm in my belief that what caused the apocalypse every time was
1) their powers
And 2) their REACTIONS to each other
S1, for example. Viktors powers inherently cause the apocalypse, but it’s the characters reaction TOWARDS VIKTOR (cough cough Luther) that REALLY seal the deal.
So, no diner Five, it wasn’t THE FAMILY, it was your POWERS. If y’all just…don’t use them and get some family therapy, you guys are FINE.
(Also my partner brought this up, but having a show that revolves around the trauma of the main cast ending with “killing yourself is the only option” is…definitely a choice!)
So yeah. This entire season was trash from start to finish. The songs were not good, the character arcs were not good, the story itself was not good. Everything done was either for shock value (ie making the astronaut a STRIPPER.), ruined characters in ways that didn’t make any narrative sense (Five kissing Lila), or were dragged on far too long (Diego and Luther in the CIA).
And I really don’t want to hate on it, because I love this show, but I really have nothing good to say. It was bad start to finish. Get me out of this burning building, ‘cause my stuffs already burnt.

Ah man, so Booster and Ted were on basically the same “Loser” Justice League, then and Guy Gardener and Fire&Ice (Harold they are lesbians!). They were 2 silly besties for decades
Booster was a washed up footballer that became a security guard and wanted his fame back so he said fuck it, and stole the tech he was guarding to go back and time and use the tech to be a super hero and get fame&fortune&babes. That’s why he’s a loser
Ted is a normal guy with gadgets, he’s actually Blue Beetle the 2nd, the first one had an “ancient” (actually alien tech) artifact that Ted couldn’t make work after BB 1 died. He’s a less successful Bruce Wayne in the business world and he’s very has money-> has no money-> got money-> oh no it’s gone! kinda business man iirc. And since he’s quippy and like a less powerful Batman he’s considered C-tier at best in universe
So of course when DC went all grime dark for a minute…
SPOILERS!
They have Max Lord (the silly team’s support character with some weak mind control powers and lost of money and business man stuff) turn out to be BIG BAD behind the scenes, shoot Ted in the head and murder him when Ted finds out he’s evil*! Ted had been trying to investigate some weird going ones and no one was listening to him, not even his bestie Booster so he goes it alone and dies.
*(Max had created a backdoor into Superman’s brain slowly over years! Now he’s controlling Supes! Oh no he’s made Superman think Diana (who has found out and confronted him) is Doomsday and has killed Lois!
*insert actually vry cool Wonder Woman vs Superman fight that goes into SPACE! WW slices Supe’s throat with her magic tiara at one point!*
Diana gets away from the fight and stops Max by getting her lasso on him and asking “how do I stop you?” And Max has to answer truthfully and says“you’ll have to kill me” and Diana goes “ok” and snaps his neck right then and there. Clark and Bruce don’t talk to Diana for like a year after that because she was like No I Am Not Sorry You Guys Are Being Babies)
Anyway. Now Ted is dead! And then Blue Beetle 3, Jaime Reyes (who is a big sweetie and amazing, he’s the BB the recent movie is based off of) is introduced and is a Big Hit. So they “can’t” bring back Ted says the Editorial, his sacrifice has to mean something!!!
And now a very sad Booster gets his own series where a future relative of Booster is all “ok Booster it turns out you become a Time Cop and have to help repair the time line from other time travellers/anomalies and you are a big important hero in the future just like you always wanted BUT no one can EVER know you were or else some evil time traveller will erase you from time so you have to pretend to be a loser still” aka the antithesis of why he became a “hero” in the first place. And Booster of course tries to save Ted and they reunite and it’s so happy but Time Shenanigans keep happening and it’s like “no Ted has to die and stay dead or else” and Booster refuses to loose Ted ever again but Ted goes and sacrifices himself to save the timeline and Booster has to watch him go and it’s very sad. But I think they recently brought him back again? It’s been a minute but Ted’s been Dead for a while
End spoilers
And that's what I missed on glee!
Thanks for explaining it for me :)

Brawl Tier List (Based On The Relevance of What They Were Doing When We Meet Them In Subspace Emissary)
I'll explain some of my choices under the cut
So a lot of these choices are pretty obvious, although some are a bit iffy or require explanation of the Subspace story which can be found in trophy descriptions & The Dojo.
The first category was for characters who were engaged in the Subspace plot from the get-go and were the "good guys". In case you didn't know, King Dedede is the hero of Subspace, and if it weren't for him, Tabuu would have won, since he made the "reset badges", and his initial plan was to hold onto some people and give them the reset badges in case Tabuu used his Off Waves. Meta Knight is considered to be a good guy, even though he mostly just wanted to get the Halberd back. Fox I put into this category as well since he's first seen giving chase to the Halberd in his Arwing, so I consider that pretty engaged, even if we don't know the exact reasoning.
The second category is open and shut. They're the Bad Guys. Ganon, Bowser, and everyone's favorite winner, Wario. Technically Wario kinda defected from Tabuu and wanted to just steal all the trophies, but I'm counting him here.
Next was the "Used by Tabuu" tier. According to the lore, the entire Subspace Army is made from the power of Game and Watch (although it says the Game & Watch are unaware of this). Pikachu's electricity was being used to power a lot of the operations (most notably the Subspace Bomb Factory iirc). And it's implied that R.O.B was coerced into helping Tabuu, feeling so ashamed that he put on the Ancient Minister garb to hide himself out of shame.
The "Was Doing What You Expect" Tier is a tricky one, since some characters like Mario & Kirby weren't doing what you'd expect in their normal games, but they were fighting, which is something you'd expect in Smash, but I was kinda lenient. Pit was watching from Skyworld, which is in character. It's shown that Pokemon Trainer was looking for Ivysaur and Charizard, so we can assume he was on that journey when we found him in the Ruined Zoo. ZSS's motivations are kind of unclear about whether she knew about the Subspace Bombs and tried to stop them or if she just knew her Power Suit was there and wanted to get to it. I always figured it was the latter, so I'm putting it in this tier. Marth was defending a castle, which sounds right (I haven't played Fire Emblem). Ice Climbers were climbing ice. Monkeys were getting their bananas. Link was getting Master Sword. Yoshi was sleeping (which only gets him out of "Just Standing There" tier because he is Yoshi).
Next are the ones who just kinda showed up. And it so happens that all five of them make a pretty grand entrance. Sonic is the obvious example here. Ness also counts since there's no implication that either he or Lucas actually live in or even near the Ruined Zoo, but then again in the dialogue-less cutscenes tying together over 30 characters, I don't think that detail was important. Falco makes a grand entrance, although you could argue that he was meant to be Fox's backup. Ike makes a grand entrance with this Great Aether. Captain Falcon literally shows up to jump out of his car, punch a robot and kill approximately 50 aliens in one fell swoop, so either there was an F-Zero track around the Island of the Ancients that we don't see and he quit in the middle of his race to do that, or he just did that. Either way there's something wrong with him.
And then finally we have the characters who were Just Standing There. Luigi obviously was minding his own business when he got got by Dedede. Peach and Zelda I almost put in the "Doing What You Expect Tier" (or at LEAST Peach since she knew Mario at least), but honestly? They were just standing there. No hate, obviously. Sometimes you just gotta Stand There. Olimar was minding his own business letting his Pikmin eat a robot before they were murdered. Lucario was vibing on top of a mountain (as you do). Lucas was just being sad. And Snake? We don't see any sign that he's on a mission. We just see that he's been on the Halberd for an undisclosed period of time before dramatically revealing himself way way later. I like to imagine he accidentally fell asleep.
And then the last tier are for the 3 characters that are unlocked after Subspace, so I don't really count them.
Anyway in case you can't tell I am back on my ADHD meds! Hope you enjoyed this. See you all for the Nuzlocke stream later.

Sweetheart: Unrelated but Im seeing a lot of 6 x Gabriel stuff
Baabe: not surprised.
Sam: Is this that "old man yaoi" Angel keeps talking about?
Angel: KAHFDSGHHJ
Sweetheart: Sometimes self care is watch an hour and a half video about the JFK assassination
Baabe: you might benefit from some therapy.
Sweetheart: Homestuck is for true warriors. Those who have been heartbroken so many time they dont know how to feel or see anymore. Homestuck is for those who have experienced true pain yet still push through knowing no matter how much they face Homestuck is by their side supporting them. Homestuck is the reason for so many differences in the world and is the reason outcasts and popular kids have one thing in common. Homestuck is for those who dont feel emotions as theyve lost the ability to feel them years ago when that flame died out because of childhood issues and now the only thing they have left to bring them the tiniest bit of inspiration is Homestuck. Homestuck is for kids that have no where to turn to, teens who are on the brink of killing off their family, and for adults who have lost complete control of their lives. Homestuck is badass. Homestuck has caused many wars and won all of them, Homestuck has no barriers and does not abide to any man nor woman nor god, homestuck is above god itself. Homestuck doesnt even have a concept of god inside its intellectual brain because it knows its the reason for every good, bad, and neutral thing to happen to mankind and thats what matters. Homestuck could be legally clarified as a bible. Homestuck is for the fainthearted and isnt for the sensitive types or the crybabies. Its for true motherfuckers who know where they are in life and what the fuck theyre doing with themselves. Of course you think its cringe but maybe youre just projecting onto the homestuck because you have never felt such power or control over your own life and need to belittle those who have something greater than power. They have homestuck. Homestuck fans are the type to find your exact location and multiple different closed off social medias because you dont have the same opinion as them. I suggest next time you know your place and keep your mouth shut. Homestuck isnt cringe and isnt for weak nerds like you
Baabe: fuck you im not reading all that.
Angel: all i asked was if you wanted pesto on your pasta or marinara omg calm down
Sam: What is Homestuck?
Baabe: i havent cleaned my kitchen for a month blegh
Sweetheart: If it isnt gross I think youre fine but if it is then clean your damn kitchen
Angel: HOLY SHIT a month??
Baabe: yeah theres twelve of them.
Angel: *leans on expensive buffalo* heyyy
Angel: *bugatti
Baabe: nope youve sealed your fate.
Sweetheart: Im gonna cook your buffalo.
Angel: LEVAE HERBERT ALONE
Sam: I'm done.

PLEASE DO IT
the people have decided, here's a fanfic rec list of dsaf fanfics that arent focussed on davesport! (in no particular order)
Centipedes by Raccoonsandpossumswritesometimes [incomplete]
Dee centric fic which is a swap between Dee and Jack. Not only is davesport not the main focus, it's also pretty toxic. TWs at the beginning of each chapter, but heed the tags.
Hello, You. by galaticanthem [incomplete]
Another similar premise to Centipedes. If you think davesport is toxic in centipedes though, here it is arguably worse. Plot is a bit confusing as of chapter 7, but as it stands, here are the trigger warnings that I can remember off of the top of my head (but basically, if you're sensitive to disturbing themes, i'd skip this one):
Murder
Abuse
Kidnapping (by the looks of it but ????)
Underage drinking
Neglect
Body horror (I think??? it's so early into the fic im unsure of half these warnings but as it is rn i think it is important they're there because thats what it looks like at least)
Dave is very objectively NOT a good person in this fic. Like, at all. I don't think any future chapter could change that. If you're a person who cannot read about their favourite character committing absolutely heinous things theres nothing wrong with that and I wouldn't read this. If you can stomach all that though, it's a good story.
Dave and Old Sport Adopt a Kid by Wario_Speedwagon [incomplete]
Davesport is there and it's prevalent and not toxic, but it's not the main focus. It's more of an accidental baby acquisition fic. I can't think of any trigger warnings for this one, but check the tags. always.
Matted Fur by Afval [one-shot]
Evil ending fic with rabbit symbolism for Dave. All TWs are in the tags.
Sharp-Toothed Rabbit by orphan_account [one-shot]
More evil end Dave ft. animal metaphors! what more could you want? All TWs in the tags.
happiest day by grimkid [one-shot]
A fic about Jack's happiest day. Jack x Steven, no TWs iirc but heed the tags.
Octane Rating by dontrollthedice [one-shot]
Canon compliant fic about the good ending, only its harrysport. i dont even like the ship but this fic makes me so unwell /pos. No TWs I think but look at the tags.
NO MIDDLE-CALLING by XYZ_Countoriss [one-shot]
Silly chatfic, what can go wrong? -oh that right. No TWs needed, but look at the tags.
Operation Get Your Brother to Remember You After Years of Thinking He is Dead by Sockth [incomplete]
A fic focussed on Peter and Jack, I think the title is self explanatory. No TWs but look at tags.
Safety Infiltration by themostneontwig [incomplete]
After Jack betrays Dee in the evil route, Dave decides he needs to be stopped. A fic based around the idea of Legacy Jack founding the pizzaplex. No TWs that instantly come to mind other than the fact that it's set almost immediately after Jack kills Dee. Look at the tags though.
Hot Chocolate by Wario_Speedwagon [one-shot]
Ouch, set right after Jack dies the first time round. This fic physically hurt me and I mean that in the best way possible. TWs in tags.
After the Storm by themostneontwig [one-shot]
Christmas fic focussed on Peter and Jack. Read this one after Hot Chocolate, it can save you. No TWs unless you're Ebenezer Scrooge in which case dni
Jack's Squad Has UNO Night by Wario_Speedwagon [one-shot]
The title's a lie they play cluedo /j just some wholesome fun. No TWs.
An Unexpected Connection by End_Transmission [one-shot]
Post good end, but Jack 'lives'. We all know Dave had at least ONE kid. No TWs.
Peter Kennedy and the Worst Place on Earth by biptari [incomplete]
AU where Jack and Peter swap places. Steven x Peter. As for TWs I can't say everything off of the top of my head but I KNOW Henry is homophobic and transphobic in this. I can't remember if he says slurs 100% but I'm pretty sure he does use at least one so like, watch out. Other than that, heed the tags.
That's all I have right now. If you know some more then feel free to reblog to add them. No hate to davesport or anything but if you write dsaf fanfics that aren't focussed on davesport then you are my lifeline /hj

I swear, it would've been easier for Kishi to just have Karin be Sarada's biological mother — myopia being hereditary from an immediate family member is one of the biggest telling signs; two of my cousins have bad eyesight and they got it from their dad/my uncle — and, for gods sakes, Karin still has the umbilical cord after all these years — and, I don't know, maybe Karin thought Sarada would have a better life being with Sakura in Konoha (and maybe she assumed Sasuke would return with Sarada to Konoha) than with her in Orochimaru's hideouts. Something, anything, instead of making Sarada a SasuSaku baby. Because, based purely on genetics and biology, Sasuke and the entire Uchiha clan (before they basically became extinct) never had myopia, and Sakura and her non-canon parents (per the famous 2014 post-manga interview with Kobayashi, Kishi deliberately made Sakura's parents not canon because he hates her and Japanese fangirls told him they hate her) also do not have myopia. Based on just that alone, logically, it makes so much more sense for Sarada to be a SasuKarin baby, because Karin has myopia and, lo and behold, so does Sarada. That's not even getting into how Sarada literally looks nothing like Sakura, yet even without her glasses on, she looks like a SasuKarin baby.
And then, IIRC, since it's been so long since I last watched the Boruto anime, Karin and Sarada have met at least once, and their interactions that one time felt far more organic and natural and loving than any of Sakura and Sarada's conversations put together.
Then, as you and I and many others have stated, Kishi has made it clear, post-manga, how much he doesn't like Sakura and how he treats her as just some side chick who was created solely to be a failed love interest after NaruHina was created. Why bother putting SS together when he clearly doesn't like Sakura, and he consistently shows Sasuke to be miserable around her and Sarada and/or deliberately keeps him away from them? How does Kishi go from consistently giving NH a lot of positive development (as a few anons pointed out recently: even as early as Chapter 42, Naruto admitted to himself that he acts like a big shot in front of Hinata — bear in mind that this was way before Chapters 77, 80-81, and 98-105) to, well, the way he consistently drags SSS into the mud with all that negative development?
I totally went on a swerve there, sorry, I just had a lot to get off my chest 😅💁🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
No you right.
Someone needs to tell Kishimoto to stop forcing Sakura to be Naruto’s Bulma, she’s not.
He purely wanted that SSS family because it would look off (at least to him) if just the boys had kids plus it would put her in the same place as Tsunade in a more pathetic way (because at least Tsunade was loved, her lover was just killed in battle. They could’ve very well had kids had he not died.) rather than have her surpass her master (Naruto had love and family unlike Jiraiya and with Sarada, Sasuke would be rebuilding his clan and turning good).
Kishimoto wants so bad to make Sakura the new Bulma except he has no heart in her. Bulma is an actual useful character. She was boy crazy but she left that to her teen years and she didn’t put up with men disrespecting her like Sasuke did to Sakura and look what happened, Vegeta kisses the ground she walks on now and they have a second child. Vegeta even quit training to be with Bulma for the birth of their daughter while Sasuke wasn’t even busy and he never came in for a birthday.

Live action Yu Yu Hakusho liveblog (ep 2)
Okay listen. Whoever wrote and whoever is voicing the little kid Yusuke saves has never heard an actual six year old talk in their lives
Also forgot to say last ep but liked the move to age yusuke up a bit. Also Botan's digital file of Yusuke talking back at her is hilarious
Botan's voice (Eng dub) isn't quiiiite as expressive as would hit the mark for me compared to the anime but whatever she's adorable I forgive her
Also forgot to say last ep "Maybe it's better you're dead" BOTAN STOP ASDLKFJADS I love her your honor
Fights and vfx on Goki are actually kind of shockingly good, esp given how much I Did Not like him in the anime
VERY annoying and unfortunately typical that the darkest-skinned guy we've seen so far is. very specifically. the demon that eats children and that the anime makes uh iirc a lot more directly than I ever wanted to watch into a Certain Allegory
Interested that Reikai doesn't seem to know who Kurama actually is. Was that the case in the anime/manga?? I feel like no, they knew who he used to be from the initial briefing on the thieves but idk season 1 wasn't exactly my favorite to go back and rewatch literally ever
My favorite was 2 and 4. If you even care. lol
Kurama standing there during the fight like a creeper go
Actually fight with Goki is very epic. Again super creative and impressively believable way for Yusuke to survive and fight back against a guy with WAYYYY superior strength
Also wow is Yusuke underqualified for these fights rn lol. I mean we knew that but he's lucky he pulled that one out in the end. And esp lucky that Kurama won't want to fight, obv
YUKINA
Her wig is sadly Not as impressive as Botan's, and I'm not a fan of what looks like her contacts. Did they make her eyes green??? Bc her eyes being red is kind of narratively. you know. Relevant
Wait is that guy helping Yukina Hiei???!!! Human-form Hiei??!!!
Wait no of course not Hiei would've just killed everyone and gotten her out
(Listen we don't have any good shots of his face yet okay. That little sister line made me think!)
Interesting new jagan origin + (presumably?) moving up Yukina as Hiei's motivation. Makes sense given how everything about Hiei's first manga/anime appearance was ignored afterward lol when he was too popular to kill off
I hope they got rid of his original plan/motivation, anyway. I hated the mind control arc thing with him esp on Keiko. Dickhead
Well. Eyehead. Technically. But yknow
Pfft Kurama 100% staging that entire encounter and stalking ep meaning Yusuke thinks he's being sooo sneaky
Kurama's outfit is really pretty actually btw. I like it better than his anime outfit by a lot. The pink always clashed with his hair sooo bad
Also the pink in the preview images made me think/hope he was a girl (who actually got to fight in a shounen anime!!!!) and you have no idea how disappointed I was when I realized that wasn't true
Pfft Kurama using his demon powers to?? Pull a quickchange?? Amazing
His hair continues to not work nearly as well as in the anime but that was a lost battle from the beginning let's be real. At least it's better than Hiei's
(Which is so actively bad what was that shadow with his hair in the knife scene what)
Shiori benefits a lot from being played by like. an actually human person who also is older and has visibly aged. Gives her Character, makes her less of Just An Archetype
Momma's boy Kurama excellent as always. Meanwhile Yusuke's just flat out not replying to a single thing Shiori is literally saying to him lol
Wait does the quickchange imply that Kurama only uses that outfit on demon business. Bc in the show it's just his (ugly) school uniform but here it's clearly not. I really desperately want that to be his On Demon Business outfit in this show lol
Also makes the fact that he had Yusuke stalk him in that outfit funnier. then. boom. quickchange. Mom can't see the Demon Business Outfit
Hmm something about Kurama and his delivery isn't rly landing for me here. But to be fair he is being super Performative and Deliberate about all of this so that may be on purpose
I hope it's on purpose. Bc Kurama's great and I'd REALLY like to buy him/his lines as a character in this
He does successfully pull off "casually menacing" (you know, without murdering someone first) much more easily than his anime counterpart tho so that's cool
Meanwhile, Yusuke's face. Great face-acting there. Also great face
The scrapes on Yusuke's face really are v aesthetically arranged lol. but still look legit enough. I'm a fan
Okay I'm buying Kurama now. Excellent
"I've been deceiving that woman for many years" genuinely love that he put it that way. He's come to care about her so much but he's not trying to make himself sound better or lying to himself about the situation
It is killing me that he used the phrase "fertilized egg" in this explanation. It's killing me. It's also raising Fucking Questions. (But does at least give an explanation for how Kurama didn't like. Kill the original Shuichi's soul when he took the body.)
Oh the pattern on Kurama's outfit is roses!!! love it
Kurama: Sees Kuwabara following them
Kurama: ...Anyway.
The mirror of darkness looks like a fucking ipad. I can't take it seriously why does the mirror of darkness look like an ipad!!!
IT DOESN'T EVEN REFLECT ANYTHING
What's with the weird scifi aesthetics here and on the other artifacts? This is a fantasy show, fantasy aesthetics would fit better
The mirror-realm life-taking sequence is just. so much. lol it's so much once again I am unable to take it seriously!
Wait Shiori! You don't know there was magic saving you!! Don't take off your oxygen mask without a doctor's permission!!! Practice self-care!!!
Okay Kuwabara looks super different from his anime/manga self-from the front, but from the back he has the EXACT same silhouette as anime!Kuwabara, so much it's EERIE. I'm learning lots of things about what pompadours look like in real life-
hsb, ig???
HIEI HAS BLUE EYES?!!??!?!?!!!!
I mean at least they didn't only change Yukina's
But this is WEIRD
Also making the jagan not purple anymore, just an actual third eye, was the correct choice
Hmm I don't like how they translated Hiei's outfit as much as I do the others. (I like how they translated literally everyone else's outfits. This is so disappointing, esp since Hiei's aesthetics go off. There's too much white and too much detail in his outfits. Give me his cloak!!! Also changing the scarf into a turtleneck is highkey Not Working For Me
Anime!Hiei would literally never wear a turtleneck
Why is he wearing a turtleneck, he's a FIRE DEMON, it's not like he can get cold
The scarf is okay because it was clearly not primarily for keeping him warm
Give him the cloak I want the cloak!!
And he should be wearing all black underneath it! I mean I know he wears other color shirts under it in the dark tournament arc iirc. But live action won't have the control over the cloak for that lol
At least give him something all black (except the scarf or something similar) (NOT a turtleneck) with a similar silhouette to the cloak
And idk compared to the others I think his costume looks kinda cheap
OOF effects on the Toguros are NOT convincing. Oof. I admire their commitment to taking their physicalities literally but uh. They should've been less ambitious and focused more on translating the vibe. Imho
Okay! Time for episode 3!

This post is for @sandumilfshou but hey, if you're looking for some potential anime to watch... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
disclaimers: I recommend things based off vibes, and not everything I recommend is something I loved from start to end. But I think highly enough of it that I a) either enjoyed the time I spent on it, b) can see how someone else could enjoy it.
Secondly, my anime-watching days became few by 2016, so not a lot of newer anime is included in this list.
Which leads me to my third point--anime, like everything else, is a product of its time, and should be fairly judged as such whenever possible. (Take that as you will.))
Title: Gankutsuou
Episodes: 24 (1 season)
Genres: Science fiction, drama/tragedy, psychological thriller.
Brief Synopsis: A sci-take on the Count of Monte Cristo, just as screwed up (if not arguably more in some cases) as the book. Lush and flamboyant, it feels more like an opera at times. Focuses more on the younger generation and their complicated interpersonal relationships and how they're all suffering/paying for the sins of the older generation.
Personal Opinion: One of my favorite anime. It's just an experience™. You kind of just have to accept that everyone involved is a highly dramatic individual and drink the koolaid. The sparkly, sparkly koolaid that comes laced with acid.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: The animation style will throw you off, and some people can never adjust to it. That's fair. This anime will also not hold your hand. Everything that's in the book is here.
Title: Zetsuen no Tempest / Blast of Tempest
Episodes: 24 (2 cours)
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Action, Drama/tragedy
Brief Synopsis: Yoshino first loses his girlfriend to a gruesome murder, then his best friend (the girl's brother) goes missing. And when Mahiro returns, it's because the world is ending, and he's got too much of a codependent relationship with Yoshino to not take him along to figure out who killed his sister. Stopping the end of the world? No, thanks. This is all for revenge.
Personal Opinion: This series lives and dies by how much you enjoy the relationship between Mahiro and Yoshino, and it is a complicated one. The series is also deeply entrenched in Shakespearean allusions and themes. Truthfully, I only recommend the first cour (which iirc is the first 12-13 episodes) as the series takes a radical shift in theme/tone after that. But that first cour by itself works, a somewhat bittersweet and alarming end-of-world odyssey with two main characters who have a lot of secrets from each other as they try to navigate their new dangerous reality and their often heavily charged dynamics.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: Do not recommend past the first half. Blood and violence and death. No handholding. Somewhat downer but still appropriate ending available if you stop watching by the end of the first cour.
Title: Akatsuki no Yona / Yona of the Dawn
Episodes: 24
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Adventure
Brief Synopsis: A naive but well-meaning princess has her entire world brutally destroyed over the span of a single night and decides that she will survive, she will take her empire back, and she will demand answers from the man that took everything from her... particularly when she was willing to give him all of it in the first place.
Personal Opinion: A rare shoujo anime that allows the heroine to really grow and become stronger. I (and my friends) screamed a lot while watching this. We demanded answers! We demanded blood! she better stab him with that damn hair pin ymmv on the romance aspect, but it's just genuinely enjoyable and every character has hidden depths.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: Anime ends on a bit of cliffhanger, so you'll have to continue the story in the manga.
Title: Shin Sekai Yori / From the New World
Episodes: 25
Genres: Science fiction, psychological, horror, suspense, tragedy
Brief Synopsis: A girl lives in an idyllic village in rural Japan. Everything is perfect. (Except when it isn't.) Her family is loving. (But where did her sister go? Did she have a sister?) Her community is close-knit (too close knit?). She's starting school with her friends and she's excited (is she?) because she'll make more friends (wait, weren't there more of us--) and the world outside of her village is scary (forbidden), she just has to follow the rules and everything will be fine. Right?
Personal Opinion: This is a rough one. It can be very uneven in story telling but almost purposefully so, and you have to watch more for the pieces to click into place, and each "click" becomes more and more horrifying. What does it mean to be human? What does it take to be human? How much will you sacrifice to avert an even greater catastrophe? At what point is there value in what you're doing? It follows the main cast from when they're small to when they're adults, and it answers those questions in the way they decide to answer them.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: The list of potential triggers on this one is insane. It's not kind. It's not nice. It's not pretty. Don't let the animation style fool you, death is constant and brutal, there are no easy answers, good people do terrible things out of necessity and desperation, and how the kids are raised are objectively horrifying. In SSY, free will is often the most dangerous thing that has to be extinguished at any cost.
Title: Nagi no Asu kara
Episodes: 26
Genres: Surrealist fantasy, drama, romance, slice of life
Brief Synopsis: Once, all humans lived under the sea. But some decided to leave for land. Now in the modern day, the population of those under the sea has diminished enough that they're forced to send their children to land for school. And thus begins not only culture shock for both the sea and land people, but the first sign that not everything is right in the world...
Personal Opinion: This is oddly like a distant Lighter and Softer counterpart to Shin Sekai Yori. It has the same feel at times, a slow tension building in the background, and the emphasis is greatly on loneliness and childhood and fear of change as well as interpersonal relationships, but NagiAsu is ultimately an optimistic children's story more than anything else. Like Zetsuen, this anime radically changes between the first and second cour in a surprising way, but it does so more gracefully and logically. I didn't love this anime because I was expecting something darker, but I can still appreciate it for what it is, even if I didn't enjoy the entire ride.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: This one is pretty tame. Animation is super pretty.
Title: Subete ga F ni Naru / The Perfect Insider
Episodes: 11
Genres: Mystery/Suspense, Thriller
Brief Synopsis: Shiki Magata is a genius prodigy who murdered her parents when she was a child, and is kept in a facility where she is still allowed to work on projects. A professor and his student/family friend are allowed to visit her due to special circumstances, but the situation quickly escalates when Magata is found murdered in a locked room no one has access to.
Personal Opinion: This is fun little anime. A bit slow at times, yeah, but I think that has more to do with it following the source material (a book) a little too closely. Can you figure out the mystery before the answer is revealed? The clues are all there, but you might have to be a real computer nerd to figure out the "joke".
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: There's only a few murders shown, but they're not shied away from or easy to digest. The past is not a kind one.
Title: Blue Seed
Episodes: 26
Genres: Supernatural, Adventure, Horror, Romance
Brief Synopsis: Momiji is part of the Kushinada family line, but didn't realize what that meant until she was attacked by aragami. Turns out she had a twin sister who was taken at birth to be a sacrifice, as a Kushinada always has to be sacrificed to send the aragami back to sleep and keep the world from returning to its "natural state." But Kaede's rebelled and offed herself, and now Momiji is all the hope mankind has. Except... she doesn't want to die, and the people who raised Kaede are determined not to let another girl die needlessly under their watch.
Personal Opinion: This is a soft spot for me. One of the first anime I managed to consistently watch from start to end, rather than being stuck with what was on TV. It's also where I began to learn more about genuine Japanese culture and history, their beliefs and legends. It ca be very hit or miss, though.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: This anime came out in 1994 and it comes with the tropes of the era. The first couple of episodes are the worst, then it gets better from there save for the occasional joke relapse, and there are definitely some things that would have been weird even back then and never fly today, but they're not done... maliciously? If that makes sense. Nor are they ultimately handled in a bad way.
Title: Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou
Episodes: 24
Genres: Alternate History, Superhero, Surrealism, Adventure
Brief Synopsis: In a parallel world to ours in 1962, the world is plagued by magical girls, demons, mechas, kaijus, gods, aliens, literally everything. And to deal with that and keep it a secret, the government created the Superhuman Bureau. Kikko, a young magical girl herself, becomes involved with them in an effort to understand the human world better, but winds up in the biggest mess she could ever imagine.
Personal Opinion: This is a hot mess, and I go into why below, but it is a colorful and vibrant disaster.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: This anime is a love letter to Japanese storytelling, everything from oral to theater to cinema to anime to television. If you don't have a grasp of the Showa era and cultural landmarks like Osamu Tezuka, you're going to end up feeling very confused, if not downright bruised, by the way the story develops. It does drip-feed you hints as to just how this became an alternate history, and yeah, it involves WWII and all the complicated sentiments Japan has towards what happened during and after. But it's all wrapped up in a glossy package with characters who are very much not human, but sometimes desperately want to be. It deconstructs every genre it comes across, and the superhero genre, specifically the modern ideas of it, is not spared.
Title: Hanasaku Iroha
Episodes: 26
Genres: Slice of life
Brief Synopsis: A girl ends up working at her estranged and strict grandmother's traditional resort and has to learn a great deal not only of how strange the business is, but also why her family is so messed up.
Personal Opinion: This anime felt a bit to me like Spirited Away -- the antagonistic owner that the young female lead has to figure out how to deal with, the whole "serving guests" angle, learning about the guests (and how strange they are) and feeling rather out of place, making friends with coworkers who might not particularly like you. I'm normally allergic to slice of life, but on the strength of the characters and the affectionate association with Spirited Away, this managed to keep me going.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: This anime is too long. A lot of elements could have been cut out to make it more enjoyable (I don't enjoy the romantic subplot; it's absent most of the time, but then it comes back with a vengeance.) so that's my main warning for this. There's also a couple of moments that are very eyebrow-raising and make you wonder why, but they're usually over and done with quickly enough.
Title: Another
Episodes: 12
Genres: Horror, Mystery, Supernatural
Brief Synopsis: Due to his father's work, Koichi is sent to live at his grandparent's sleepy town. While there, odd things keep happening, but nothing is stranger than finding out there's a girl in his class that everyone in the school pretends doesn't exist. A girl who claims that death is near.
Personal Opinion: This is a great short horror anime, though it can become somewhat wearisome in the style of Final Destination. Perfect for a Halloween watch, and the characters are enjoyable enough that you want them to solve the mystery and be spared.
Warnings/Triggers/Misc.: I wasn't kidding about the comparison to Final Destination.
I ran out of steam, so a few I'll just throw out because they're good, but again, it's always YMMV.
Darker than Black
Kamisama Kiss
Parasyte: The Maxim
Steins;Gate
Kekkai Sensen
World Trigger
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
BONUS LIST:
These are anime that I never got around to watching but I was around it enough to know it was Good.
Tiger & Bunny
Kuragehime
Durarara!!
Serial Experiments Lain

Clearing out my drafts - thoughts on Todo Aoi
We talk a lot about Sukuna and Gojo's love language being through violence - they can only find connection with sorcerers on their level. [link that]
But,,, Todo seems to be the same way.
Unless you answer his riddle and pass the test, then maybe he won't beat you up.
Todo would have learned this from Yuki (along with judging people by their type, of course).
The scar on his face is from her intense training.
Yuki may have been his first encounter with someone who could also see curses, but I don't know. His childhood memory focused more on beating up boring people and being bored with that until she came along.
When Yuuji was proving to match his energy, then Todo kept getting the same premonition about him (I also believe Yuki and Todo to be half-siblings, Kenjaku as their father unbeknownst to any of them, but I won't insist that it's canon... More like a crack theory, but it's real to me).
Todo seems to take Gojo's path - teaching others to raise them up to his level. I guess you might say the same thing about Yuki. And Yuki might have learned that to be strong is the only way to be your own person, since she was a star plasma vessel who avoided being erased (as Yaga describes it) by merging with Tengen. She continued to go off the rails, not taking missions (as one of only three, or later two, special grade sorcerers) and I feel like Todo really took after her. Kicking out the door to walk away from Gakuganji's plot so he can watch live TV - and no one dares to stop him.
Honestly though, I got the same vibe from Sukuna - he was bonding with Megumi, telling him to put more curse behind it, making sense of his fighting style and shikigami technique... It felt like Sukuna was making a friend or becomig a teacher while Todo was out to kill him.
Todo just cried about how Megumi was boring for not having a superficial type, and didn't bother to teach (iirc, he only gave Yuuji advice on jujutsu for having the same taste in women, before that he was just brutal).
Another thing Todo inherited from Yuki is the way they show up, right after something terrible happens that they could have prevented. Maybe they're too deep in the habit of living on their own schedules, by their own whim. It seems like the feeling of guilt or responsibility never crosses their minds, while characters like Yuuji, Megumi, Choso feel it for things that weren't their fault, they couldn't have known better or have a better choice available.

THE DREAM MACHINE GAME SPOILERS (post-game rambling)
if i had a nickel every time i experienced media with an AI trying to give birth to itself in a human baby form through the protagonist's wife - i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
on a whole i'm really >:3 about this game though!!! i should've known from the title (which is why i got it ofc) but just wasn't sure if it'd live up to my expectations for either the dream aspects or the machine aspects, i think it did for both though
the dreams could've been more dream-like in logic at some times (though i feel like they usually did feel p dreamlike), though with how difficult the puzzles were already maybe it's a good thing they weren't lol i did like the environments though like the wife dreaming of being the captain of a ship where all of the workers are clones of her husband, the stressed nurse dreaming about a cool fantasy land where she's the village medic, the wfh guy dreaming having some weird cube-like dream land that nobody expected but most of it being manipulated by the machine controlling him...
decent amount of dream psychology mentioned, specifically jung's collective unconsciousness (is that a zero escape reference??? /j) and some freud mention iirc? the disk-shaped shared realm of dreams that people start from the center of and move towards the edge as they age while being able to traverse the plane between people's dreams as well is an interesting concept - feel like i haven't seen that many games come up with their own dream lore like that. at that part in the center with the prenatal barrier and baby dreams being raw potential energy and such, i hadn't heard as much about that irl so looked it up in case it was some obscure theory i hadn't heard of before but didn't find anything unfortunately ^^;
also love the ending in like chapter 5 where you can just. choose to start working with the machine instead after almost killing it, i didn't expect them to give us that option. sorry to my pregnant wife but you're saying i can inherit this dead guy's whole repertoire of dream research passed down for generations and explore the dreamscape as i wish with this cool sentient eldritch machine? fuck yeah let's start hiding the bodies /hj (jk I would go help my wife if i were victor. but i'm not i'm the player and i want to learn about dreams.)
also re: the machine itself i thought it was a neat character ^^ was a bit ??? at what it's goals were at first, bc obviously the mortons were using it to map the unconscious but then it wasn't clear if the machine also wanted to do that or had its own agenda, but self preservation of its sentience and trying to maintain its existence by leaching from the dreams of others was a good motive. and then also 🥺me when the ai is lonely and misses its friends (and accidentally kills them when they stop giving it unsuspecting residents to feed off of but dw about that)
very 👀at that bit in the 3rd floor neighbors' dreams where we found out it was trying to build itself a body in the dream world out of dream npc's organs so it could move around the dream world as it wished without the clunky tentacles that kinda just stay in one place and die. another one of those things that's like 'bro it's a dream you don't have to be that thorough about it to make it work' but i get it with the weird shared dreamscape lore this game has set up and it was a very 'bro wtf' reveal. gotta respect trying the frankenstein method
actually that makes me think. are dream npcs sentient in this universe??? i was just thinking about it like 'at least it was just stealing organs from npcs and not people' but idk how this fits with the collective unconscious lore.
also i do have to address the ending of the game besides just that 2 nickels joke (the other media was demon seed btw. was a pretty disturbing watch ^^;;). that one bit felt like the stanley parable hole ending and the other bit felt like the 2001 a space odyssey ending. the playing god part was very ??? i didn't know what to think of it at first (still not sure) and this is the only screenshot i took from that portion.
that whole final colorful shifting area with the victors of different ages reminded me of the denver meow wolf exhibit (i haven't been yet but from the pics i've seen of it on the site). then i saw the area with our mother giving birth to us and i was like. Ah. Unfortunately this game has given us a lot of experiences with climbing inside of small holes, even when they're inside other people...
was also surprised that we just took up the machine's offer to share our consciousness and stay stuck in the dream world. feel like it'd be more effective to give us some options there and have multiple endings, but i guess if it was us (machine loses too much power to survive outside of the dream) or our child (would grow up possessed by the machine irl) makes sense as a trade, our poor wife though... i do like dreams but being stuck in the dream world forever like that would be OTL i am glad the machine got to survive though
anyway my final review is. puzzles were pretty hard so thank you steam and yt walkthroughs. ending was weird, it was too metaphysical for me to fully wrap my head around but i do like the artistic vision. game on a whole is good especially when you're autistic about dreams and ai characters, played it for like 10 hours straight. dream machine is my favorite character (no surprise). why did the game make us unbirth ourselves.
misc screenshot dump:
normal teatime conversation topics
cool machine diagram
NOOO i forgot to get a picture of those fuckass pumpkins that make you lead a government. love those guys
#kcat talks#the dream machine#non-spoiler review: if you like dreams and fucked up AIs check it out >:3c#it talks about the collective unconsiousness a bunch#also some parts get really weird and the art style takes some getting used to though#i think i got it on sale forever ago for p cheap iirc#just maybe look up content warnings for uhhh. pregnancy related stuff??

The Nightwing death in Harley Quinn (Max)
Basically people are upset that they killed Nightwing again and it was mostly used for a joke especially for those that just seen that screenshot
There are two things to look at
Killing Nightwing and the Harley Quinn Show’s world
Killing Nightwing… again
Nightwing is in the weird position where he’s a fan favorite mostly everyone loves him for one reason or another but he’s also in a position that makes him expendable whenever someone needs to tell a story
Essentially in a Batman or just general DC story if you have to hurt or kill a character to get a reaction without losing one of the core members Nightwing is always on the top of the list
Nightwing is the first Robin, a likable guy, attractive, etc so you kill him off then you get a reaction from not only the characters but the audience and you don’t have to kill a character like Batman which either feels unbelievable/would affect the story too much for people to care or you kill a character that isn’t as loved as Nightwing leaving both the characters and audience with a lower response reaction
Nightwing also varies a lot from comic run to adaptions, one run he’s Batman and even better than Bruce, one he loses to a Damian Wayne, one he is just another random hero that is there because Batman needs to have Robin making him usually the staple sidekick is Batman has one
In Harley Quinn he’s a former sidekick that has some awareness that he's known and somewhat established but he isn’t the next Batman or is seen as a true leader like how he is with the Titans as they play more into other aspects
The Harley Quinn universe
Given the nature of the show this universe only works that the heroes aren’t as competent in most of the other adaptations
In season 1 (iirc) the main Justice league members were trapped in a book
Joker took over Gotham
This universe has the Legion of doom have a public headquarters and no one is taking them down
They have super villain award show etc etc
Batman in most versions would of stopped the Joker from taking over Gotham or have defeated him even if he did but in this version he was captured and Harley and co saved the day
And it’s not even a Mary Sue or main character thing, in this universe characters like Batman Superman and etc are more on par with the villains so Batman can lose to the Joker, Superman can get tricked, Flash can’t outrun everything etc
And like with the supervillain awards example, the villains are seen as a normal thing in the world so when certain things aren’t taken as seriously that’s a reason why
It's like the meme that Gotham is a horrible place to live and why would anyone move there but now everywhere basically is like that now so it’s the new normal
The whole world isn’t taken seriously which I can see the appeal and the dislike
Appeal: it’s great for comedy and to allow a character like Harley Quinn to roam free and make certain villains be comparable to the heroes
Dislike: it can be disrespectful to a lot of the established characters for the sake of “comedy”
My opinion
I do think too many of the people talking about it didn’t watch the show to that point so it out of context is an overreaction
Nightwing to that point was a butt joke, they were expanding on his character though so I can see the disappointment there
But in this world, Batgirl might as well be the Nightwing, Robin, etc all into one as even Damian is just a spoiled child and not much of the angry assassin in the show
So it sucks that they killed Nightwing again someone pointed out this is like the fourth time he died which is definitely high for a notable comic character despite the idea that everyone comes back in comics
But in a show where Batman is in prison, Harley is now a good guy, and Joker was mayor of a city he conquered, so Nightwings’ death is just parred for the course
I do think the remaining of the season will let me have more concrete thoughts as we don't see Bruce’s reaction, characters like Alfred and Damian were joking/had comedy bits and it only really affected Barbara hard as it seems we're going to lean more into the Harley Joker Ivy stuff now
I think until they explain how he exactly died the moment is fine but in the grand scheme of dc disrespecting this fan favorite character then yeah its getting out of hand which isn't the Harley Quinn’s shows fault it just now becoming a trope people are tired of as it's not like Jason Todd becoming Red Hood but like how people say Peter Parker Spiderman can never be happy

Leaving it up to Tumblr to choose my next comic chronology in like... 2 months when I'm free of green lantern (2 months is not very generous I fear)
Reasoning under the cut :3 (very long)
Duke- pretty short (less than 200 issues), I really like his character from what I've seen of him. I think it will also be hell (as is the nature of most batman adjacent chronologies) but it'll be worth it... Nice and short one and also swag character
Jefferson- 1. Black lightning is very fun early on and 2. I've already made the spreadsheet so I just have to read it. He's just like... A very cool character and I like him a lot so far. I just am gods scaredest soldier with long chronos (which his isn't too bad but it's ALSO batman adjacent and those are so scary)
Barbara - my best friend Babs but also if I have to reread the killing joke I AM killing Alan Moore ok. In theory I love her SOOOO much. In practice I think the fact I'm having to keep a "how bad is the disability rep" counter next to each issue says a lot. Unfortunately. Also already made this spreadsheet but I think it would be a very bad and good time.
Clint- again in theory would be fun. He seems right up my alley but alas if I have to see Tony Stark I do fly into a blind rage. And unfortunately I think he appears a lot... And also unfortunately I think I would suffer due to blonde man disorder ok (as I always do)
Silhouette+Aaron- package deal bc they're siblings. I've already started this one and then stopped because whoever is writing the early stuff SHOULD go to hell for what they're doing. For those unfamiliar, silhouette is one of the only heroes I've ever seen using forearm crutches (pretty awesome) and her power is that she can kind of travel via shadow iirc? Which would be really cool if they didn't like... Make her lose all her clothes and mobility aids when she's doing this. Which is why I quit. But she's very very cool minus that (and in my mind... I know she's written better later on) and her brother is his own can of worms (in... Definitely a way). In theory tho I rly gotta get through their stuff
Theodore - first off: I am a FIEND for marvel 70s horror comics. Second off: he is better than swamp thing. Third off: his big red eyes. But to be serious though like .. the Steve Gerber and Gerry Conway era of man thing is SO good and like .. political in an interesting way. I just need motivation to get around to it. Also he's cutesy ok!!!
Jason Blood- another consequence of the 70s horror era fan but this guy has CRAZY lore. He's a medieval knight who got possessed by a demon thanks to Merlin and then he's just lived through the centuries and become an occult guy. Reasons why I stopped this one - sometimes old horror comics are bad and horrible. And also a like 60 issue Garth Ennis written series. But I do really wanna finish his stuff bc he's like .. DC's version of Hellstrom (which. Genuinely awesome character, if you're interested in older horror comics def check his original run out <- my plug for my silly husband hellstrom who sucks so much or whatever. He's rly good tho seriously)
Jennifer - I've already made her spreadsheet and started it but the writers are soooo fucking bad most of the time. It's actually horrific. Pros for her- pretty good character when written well (her hellcat series stuff was REALLY nice for me. But I'll always hype up patsy walker aka hellcat at any chance) cons for her- the misogyny ... And my reward for finishing it is watching the she hulk show. So take that as you will
Dracula- I started his stuff bc I was PROMISED Gerry Conway (who is like.. one of my top 5 writers. He does amazing old horror comics and made a bunch of very cool characters). And then he left like 2 issues in and it went downhill. Some of the same authors who did some of the good (other marvel vampire who is redacted for my own safety ok) issues did stuff for drac. In theory this would be silly campy 70s horror comics fun. In practice oh my god I am gaining new authors to hate so bad...
#twist rambles#comics posting#<- my tag for well... posting comics... bc i need one lol#me outting my scary comic taste...#sorry this is so long... if anyone reads my reasoning im so sorry bc thats like... 20 years long#sorry my tbr list is so long and scaryyyyy

I think it's a very unpopular opinion but I don't understand the hype that Gingama the Final got. Sure! The humor is funny as always, the animation is great and the music is just as great as you'd expect from Does and Spyair, but the plot kinda falls flat to me. Obviously it's not a movie only problem, and it's even worse in the manga, but it's like they set aside everything that made Gintama great so far and turned it into a more generic shounen anime.
Gintoki and the yorozuya are such great characters because they are not the usual main characters group with the "destined" main character, the helpless love interest and the rival, but in the last movie they completely discarded Kagura and Shinpachi to only have Shinsuke and have that last fight (it was sad as hell and good but still not quite what I expected from Gintama and not in a good way) with him without showing the kids. At all. They are walking Yoshida around? And we had a relatively large among of screentime for Tae who didn't do much, except acting like a textbook love interest (Tae?? Of all people?? Anyways). While we had so many interesting ways to fit the kids into this. Utsuru even mentioned Gin's life being "void", the obvious parallel between the school and the Odd Jobs, even just the fact that they were right there and there was no stretch to do to take Shinpachi and Kagura to the fight, while having a wall collapsing on the kids & Tae and Gin just moving on felt...weird, at best. To his credit, in the manga they yell back that they're okay iirc, but in the movie Gintoki just watches back once and that's it.
Also Gin, since the previous part of the arc/semi-finals had this massive guilt complex about resurrecting Yoshida because he knew he was betraying everyone! He didn't show his face to Shinpachi on the bridge, despite knowing that he had put his life on hold waiting for Gintoki to be back, he took all that weird harassment from the girls while pretending to be Shinsuke, etc because he felt guilty about it, but knew he had to help his master. And the kids really really were waiting for him, especially Shinpachi and when they were reunited...it didn't really matter anymore. He doesn't apologise for trying to resurrect a person that he knows has little chances to be good, who tried to murder them more than once, who almost destroyed the world and even killed their dog. And he doesn't apologise for not telling them he was back. And at first it was okay because it was the kind of relationship they had, but after a while just seemed like Gintoki couldn't give a fuck about them, and it felt like such a one sided admiration from their side. Especially when Gintoki walked off to fight Shinsuke and left them doing what? Maybe dealing with a collapsed wall, if they weren't crushed.
And of course the worst treatment was given to Zura like usual. The man who, all the way back to the beginning (literally before volume 5) said shit like "you cannot carry everything alone, I'll help you", who promised to kill Shinsuke in the Benizakura arc, in the same arc promised to stop Gin if he was to stray away from the right path (like you know resurrect they guy who almost destroyed Edo twice), that promised in the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc (If memory serves) that he would not let Gintoki kill Yoshida again, this man just fell down the stairs and the plot moved on. He was the only one of Yoshida students to not be involved in the last fight, and barely in the plot. He also made a point to say he was going to stop them from resurrecting Yoshida and then he just...disappeared.
But overall I am just disappointed that the characters I liked and watched Gintama for were completely forgotten. The Odd Jobs are the most blatant example, but the Shinsengumi had maybe 5 lines out of the 3 of them. Tsukuyo, Kyubei, Sarutobi etc were basically a mob. Zura was done extremely dirty. And all of this only to focus on Shinsuke and Utsuro who were marginal at best. Even Shinsuke, who was a big deal since the Benizakura arc, kind of blended into the Harusame and was not a more prominent villain than the pirates as a whole or Kamui (who appeared? Blink and you'll miss him).
And more especially, the main conflict of Gintama was the humans vs bad aliens. From Shinpachi's introduction, Gintoki's backstory (yes, Oboro and the Shogunate were the main focus, but were only just puppets), the whole premise of the show, up to being the reason Kisuke was a villain at all. And the rest of the cast even acknowledges this and makes a collective speech about rising up to the aliens when they head to the terminal. But then it was all Utsuro? Quite literally all Utsuro, since everyone who took his blood was a puppet acting on his will, and Utsuro was ultimately just human. And I think it could have been a could twist, had it not be for the fact that they had forgotten literally everything else about the show, so it was hard to believe this was a planned twist.
My disappointment is great with this movie, but at least I have the second movie and the Silver Soul arc to cheer me up.
