Hello, friends~! I come to you this time with English subs for the Banana Fish stage plays~! Thank you to @emerald-trashart for requesting me to do both plays! I had such a blast working on it even though it got a bit overwhelming and heavy at times (because Banana Fish (╥_╥))

The stage play is just so amazing, and beautifully made...! I went into this not knowing what to expect, and I came out of it just mesmerized. If you're familiar with Banana Fish, of course it will be as heavy as its source material, but I think that you would enjoy it! The production did a really great job respecting and staying true to the events of its source, and I think long-time fans would love it ^^

The actors, too...! They were so great at their roles, and gosh the emotions and intensity they portrayed were really convincing. Mizue Kenta and Okamiya Kurumu were so perfect as Ash and Eiji, and their chemistry was just beautiful T^T>

Guide for the Akatsuki no Yona Musical

Hi everyone! As you might know, Akatsuki no Yona is getting a musical. The showings start July 20th in Japan and they announced recently it will be streamed! It's not all the showings, but the first one to be streamed live will be July 21th 7pm Japan Time. It's on RakutenTV here and the first half is free for everyone! You can also now buy tickets for the 2nd half and the other days.

The problem is, if you don't live in Japan it won't work and it won't even let you buy tickets. RakutenTV's region lock is pretty tricky to bypass, and any commercial VPNs, even paid ones, probably won't work. Luckily enough, there is a way! What worked for me is installing Softether VPN (100% free!) with the VPN Gate plug-in by following the guides here . Be sure you download Softether with the VPN Gate client plug-in (the second link on the reddit post) or you won't be able to connect to a japanese server. It's the first link on the download page here. It looks scary and complex at first, but it's actually very simply to install and to use! You will need to create a japanese RakutenTV account and connect to a japanese server to load the stream and purchase a ticket.

You can test if RakutenTV believes you're in Japan or not with the blue button for video testing on the pic below. If you get an error message, it's that RakutenTV detects you're not in Japan. If you get it even though you followed the guide and you're connected to a japanese server through VPN Gate, don't worry, try other servers and refresh the page. You might have to try again a few times before getting one that works.

Also the lives are rewatchable for a week after their live streaming, so even if you're not available to watch it live you have some time to still watch and enjoy it!

Heyo Smokey, you know blades, got any recommendations on where to get a good quality dagger, both in looks and functionality?

My personal favorite site is kultofathena, but ultimately when it comes to finding the right one for you it's less about where you shop and more about how you shop! Knowing your stuff and what you want out of it. I also recommend Tod's stuff, and handmade or from folks who make and sell by hand are almost always reputable.

Unfortunately, the market for historical weapons caters to a wide audience, and only a small portion of that audience wants something functional and of a decent quality. A lot of what you'll find is meant for wall display, stage combat, costuming, edgy mallrats, etc.

Knowing what to look for and how to avoid junk is a bit of a difficult skill to learn in this field, but there are a few people on youtube with videos on that subject. There's also a website called sword buyers guide, though I'm not familiar with it.

If I knew more about the kind of dagger you were looking for, I might be able to help! Feel free to DM me and we can look through some stuff. Some general tips though:

For anything above knife length you'll likely want a high carbon steel of some kind, but be wary of listings that don't specify a steel type. Avoid stainless steel.

Make sure you know your local laws regarding the purchase of double edged or curved blades, and the import laws of your country. UK customs will seize things if they look too fun, and some US states have specific laws regarding size/shape/type.

Read all the material and specs. Wouldn't want you to find out after you bought it that it was a letter opener or that the grip is made of plastic

Check the measurements and look at them irl on a tape measure or something to get a good idea of size

If you're looking for something sharp make sure it's sharp before you buy it. There's no general expectation for a blade to have an edge online, some makers sell them with blunted edges and some don't even put an edge on them. Kultofathena offers a sharpening service for some things as well

To that young anon who was dismayed over their mom not letting them buy tickets, please do not feel less of a fan! I think in kpop, fans often put parameters for what a “real” fan looks like, but that’s never been something BTS has pushed for. They know they have an incredibly diverse fandom and not everyone can purchase everything they put out. I’ve been a fan since 2015, but I didn’t buy ANYTHING the boys put out until 2018 when I entered college and had my own money. I was only able to do that because I had a scholarship that covered most things, but I’ve now stopped buying things BTS releases because I now have to worry about rent and bills. I’ve never felt like a lesser fan for prioritizing my own needs over BTS, and no ARMY I know has made me feel insecure when I couldn’t buy anything during their merch drops. If you feel like you’re not getting taken seriously because of your lack of merch, I highly suggest finding new ARMY mutuals! As for what you can do to support BTS, you’re already doing it! Streaming is the best way to support BTS if you can’t buy. I am assuming you’re on Twitter, and that’s where so many ARMYs have made their homebase, so you can bet that you can find many ways to support BTS. You can ask radio stations to play BTS’ songs (check out @RequestBTSRadio for how to’s), Shazam BTS songs to show radios in the US people want their music played (@BTSonShazam for tutorials), participate in votings for BTS (@btsvotingorg), make tweets using BTS related hashtags so you can help them trend (we just trended #HelloJimtober to welcome Jimin’s birthday month today!), join streaming parties hosted by ARMYs through the apps Stationhead or Renaissance (@PurpleHourRadio is a GREAT host who streams almost daily and their DMs are open if you need help understanding Stationhead!), and share BTS’ music and videos with others whether it’s through word of mouth or on social media. If you’re based in the US or Puerto Rico and you have a PayPal + an iTunes, Amazon, Qobuz, or 7Digital account, you can request @USARMYFUNDS for funds to buy BTS’ most recent releases. There’s so many things you can do, but don’t feel guilty if you can’t. I don’t have the time anymore to devote hours to BTS, so I only do whatever’s possible for me like trending hashtags and joining streaming parties since I can do that while sleeping. And I don’t usually buy their online concerts because there are a lot of ARMYs willing to stream for others, don’t mind the others who say you shouldn’t! Perhaps it’s too much money, perhaps she’s rightfully worried about COVID-19; whatever the case, I knew when I was 16 and crying over not being allowed to buy tickets for BTS’ Wings tour, I didn’t think I’d be here now grateful for my mom not letting me go because I later found out we were struggling financially at the time. I’m not saying that’s the case for you, but there are endless possibilities for your mother not letting you go. Before I end this long message, I want to reiterate to that anon and anyone on Storm’s blog that you should not feel less of a fan if you can’t buy BTS things or don’t have the time to do this and that to support them. ✨Important Notes/Updates✨

Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch for free! No region locks, and you don’t even need to make an account. Free watchers will be one week behind paid members. But this is a legal and free way to support the donghua if you’re unable to pay! (This actually means that you’ll be able to see the episodes faster and for free on Bilibili than you would on YouTube, because YouTube has a two week delay instead of just one week.)

Funimation is broadcasting TGCF in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. These are some of the regions which are blocked by YouTube, so this is an available alternative for those who don’t want to go through Bilibili. They have also stated they will launch in Mexico and Brazil this winter.

ALL broadcasts are in Chinese with hard-coded/embedded English and Chinese subs. (I.e., they come with the broadcast itself, on top of the image. Nothing to toggle on/off, they are automatically there.) They are the exact same across all the platforms.

Please support official releases so that we can get more seasons, and high quality! This is still niche content, believe it or not!

🔹GENERAL FAQs:🔹

1.) "Where is the best place to watch?"

I still reccomend Bilibili's native website/app over all other streaming platforms. This is due to some key points:

Bilibili's website/app gets the episode the very second they drop. There is no delay whatsoever. YouTube and Funimation have been delayed the last two weeks. It's unknown if this is just a hiccup or what, but if watching new episodes ASAP is important to you, going through Bilibili ensures you will not have to worry about any uncertainty.

Price breakdowns: Bilibili's website/app 3-month membership is $10-11 USD. Their YouTube channel's "MBBM Lv2" membership varies by region, but in many places is similar or just a tad more. In the US, the MBBM Lv2 membership and Funimation membership is the same price ($5.99 per month, or $17.97 for 3 months). So you can actually save some cash by going through Bilibili directly.

In the end, this is largely up to personal choice and comfort. Some people may find it difficult to navigate Bilibili's website even with guides and google translate's auto-translate feature. In this case, YouTube or Funimation are fine alternatives. If you also have an existing Funimation sub or plan to use it to watch other shows, then that's perfectly valid too. Similar with the MBBM lv2 sub on YouTube, especially if you want to use it to see other shows (e.g. Legend of Exorcism which is only English-subbed on YouTube).

2.) "Where do I watch for free?"

On Bilibili's website, you can watch episodes for free! You will be one episode behind paid members, but it's a legal way to support the donghua. You don't even need to create an account!

3.) "What episode will be airing when/where?"

Check out the table below for the differences in airing times. Time is 11AM China Time.*

1.) "What's the difference between Bilibili's YouTube Channel's MBBM Lv1 and Lv2 memberships?"

MBBM Lv2 allows you to watch the episodes on the same day as Bilibili's website broadcast.

MBBM Lv1 has new episodes delayed by one week, meaning you will be one episode behind the others. There actually is zero point in subscribing to MBBM Lv1 (unless you want to watch other subbed donghua) because you can watch the same content on Bilibili for absolutely free, since Bilibili is allowing non-members to watch TGCF one episode behind paid members.

You can also watch two episodes behind on YouTube.

2.) "If I have YouTube Premium/Red, do I still need a membership on Bilibili's YouTube page?"

Yes. YouTube premium is completely separate from the channel-specific memberships.

3.) "Are episodes simulcast on YouTube?"

While originally stated as being simulcast, there actually seems to be a bit of a delay on YouTube as of now. It's unclear if this will change with future episodes.

4.) "Do I need a VPN?"

If you are from one of the restricted countries, then yes, you'll need to use a VPN. You can still pay for the subscription as normal, and then use a VPN to watch the donghua. It will not affect payment.

🔹BILIBILI-RELATED FAQs:🔹

1.) "Do I need to take that 100-question quiz to sign up for Bilibili or the membership?!"

No, it's totally optional! You do not need it to either watch the free episodes or to buy a membership. It's only if you want to comment and stuff. It might make you think you gotta do it, or enter a code, but it's actually not needed. Check out THIS post for more info!!! (However, you may still want to do it in order to level up and eventually leave a nice review for the donghua!)

2.) "I'm only able to watch 6min on Bilibili's website when I watch from my phone. Do I need the app?"

You do not need the app. Switch your browser to Desktop Mode in order to watch the video in full.

Be sure to download a browser like Google Chrome, Firefox, etc that supports this mode if your native browser doesn't allow for it.

3.) "Can I get the app on iPhone/iOS?"

This depends on if you are in a country where the app is not region locked in the app store. If you're able to download it that way, great! If not, try using a VPN and setting your region to mainland China. It may work. APKs are not useable on iPhones, so unless you know how to sideload apps onto your device, you may be stuck with the app store only.

Do note that you might be unable to pay for a Bilibili membership through the app, depending on version, but you can always simply pay through the website and then use the app as normal. It will apply account-wide on all devices.

4.) "Why are there two versions of the app?"

One seems to be the international version, which is more basic and lets you pay via GooglePay/ApplePay. The other one seems to be made for mainland China, and allows you to even buy merchandise through it (Chinese address/bank acc required). Mostly, both have to be downloaded via APK on Android. But some iOS users have reported different versions of the app being available for them through the app store (namely the int'l ver, and some have said they can use a VPN to get the mainland one).

5.) "Is there any benefit to having the app over just using the website?"

Not really, no. With the app you can buy very cute hualian themed skins for your profile, though (if you have the mainland version of the app). Plus you can save videos for offline viewing.

6.) "Do I need to enter my area code for Bilibili when signing up/in?"

NO, you do not enter your area code in the phone number field. Select your country from the drop-down list and it will automatically consider your area code. (E.g. if you're in America, select 美国 and enter in your number like 5557779999.)

7.) "I didn't get to set a password when signing up, so how do I log into my Bilibili account after being logged out?"

Use the same phone number you did to sign up. Instead of a password, you'll enter in a one-time key that is sent to your phone via text message. (NOTE: some people have reported not receiving these messages, which may vary by phone carrier!)

As mentioned above, don't include your area code when filling out your number.

Also, if you are signed in on the app on your phone, you can scan the QR code on the log-in page through the app.

8.) "How do I turn off the barrage comments filling up the video I'm watching?"

Select the little button that reads "弹" under the video:

9.) Is the Bilibili subscription auto-renewing?

No, the 1-month (¥25), 3-month (¥68), 1-year (¥168) subscriptions will not automatically renew. They are a one-time payment only!

Notice that the renewing payments all say "连续" in front of them, which means "continuing" or "successive" types of subscriptions. They are also cheaper than the one-time payment. (E.g. the renewing 3-month sub is ¥45 instead of ¥68.) Moreover, the renewing types are not even available to purchase with PayPal, afaik. You need Alipay or WeChat Pay, etc.

10.) "Can I use the app/membership to read the manhua too?"

Unfortunately, not quite! Your Bilibili account is universal, but you'll need to download the manhua app seperately and topping up M-coins to pay for the manhua. (One-time purchases, either by volume or by chapter as per your choice.)

11.) "What resolutions are available?"

You can watch up to 480p as a free member. Paid members can watch at 1080p and high-bit-rate 1080p. It's possible to chromecast it to TV, too. (I haven't tried it, but others have!)

12.) "Can I watch across multiple devices?"

Yes, you can!

13.) "Do I need a VPN?"

No, Bilibili is not region-locked. However, some particular countries may have Chinese apps blocked.... :(

14.) "I want to leave a comment/review. How do I level up on Bilibili?"

Log in daily, watch at least one video per day, give coins (attained by logging in) to your fave videos, etc! It will definitely take a while haha.

15.) "Will I be able to watch other donghua like MDZS or SVSSS with my membership on Bilibili?"

No, those two donghuas are produced by TenCent, not Bilibili. You will need either a TenCent/WeTV account, or you can watch them on their YouTube channel (free).

1.) "Is Funimation's broadcast a simulcast?"

It is supposed to be, according to their initial announcements. They seem to be having some technical difficulties, but those may be resolved soon. I suggest keeping an eye on their twitter for updates if you are interested in watching through them!

2.) "Do I have to pay extra on my Funimation sub to watch TGCF?"

No, afaik, the regular $5.99 sub covers TGCF too.

Brief Succulent Care Guide for the New Green Witch

Gather ‘round, lil new green witches! I received a lot of engagement on my last succulent-related post, so I wanted to make a little bit more thorough post on succulent care. Allow me to impart with you some of the knowledge I’ve gained from my fuck ups while on my green witch path. This is not a comprehensive guide to succulent care! These are just notes from my personal grimoire and what works best for me when I care for succulents. I’ve had the highest success rate with my succulents when I follow my notes below, but other people have their own methods that may not be the same as mine (i.e. mixing their own soil vs buying store bought premixed soil)

🌱General Notes:🌱

Great plants for people that are looking to improve their gardening skills; great beginner plants.

Great plants for dry climates and sunny weather.

Don’t require much maintenance and you can accidentally ignore them without much consequence!

The bright vibrant or sweet pastel colors that you see on succulents when you first bring them home or in photos are from stress. Succulents don’t always stay this color and will typically turn a green (ranging from light to emerald to forest greens) when they’re not stressed. This is ok! This does not mean the succulent is dying or unhealthy.

You can stress succulents by giving them less water, more sunlight, and have them in cold temperatures.

💧Water notes:💧

Don’t water too often

Only water when the soil is completely dry

When watering, completely soak the roots

Don’t let water sit on top of the soil in the pot or overflow

It is easier to revive dried out succulents than it is to save succulents that have drowned and/or developed rot.

When watering, aim for the roots by using a plastic syringe or squirt bottle with a very fine spout.

Do not water the leaves on top, only water at the base where the roots are.

🌵Soil notes:🌵

Use soil that drains well

Cactus/succulent potting mix if using pots

If you’re not mixing your own soil, use the cactus potting mix and mix in pumice (can be ordered online or bought from garden stores)

This helps drain the water

Pearlite can also be used to drain the soil and is more cost effective than pumice, but isn’t as effective.

💸Buying Succulents:💸

Can be purchased at big box stores, bought from mom & pop garden shops, or ordered online from etsy or IG.

When ordering succulents online, be careful and be sure to order from reputable shops. (Some stores on IG or Tumblr may be scammers, so be cautious! It is possible for them to pass off stressed succulents to inexperienced plant guardians as rarer varieties. Some shops may not have the succulent at all and may’ve stolen the photos they used.)

When you take succulents home from the store (especially big box stores) immediately remove the soil from their roots and repot them in your soil mix. Store bought succulents most likely haven’t been cared for properly and will need a lil bit of love and care when they first come home. Big stores typically either drown succulents, pot them in the wrong soil, or didn’t maintain them properly.

🌿Potting Succulents:🌿

If you’re potting multiple succulents in a container, to give succulents enough space to grow (about 2″)

With roots: plant as normal!

Without roots:

Freshly clipped/cut: Wait until callous has formed. Don’t plant or try to water because it will just rot!

With callous: Go ahead and stick them in soil! Water and treat as normal. New roots systems will form soon and your plant may sprout pups and offshoots!

Pot Notes:

Use pots with drainage holes when first starting out (This help prevents root rot and lets water drain all the way through)

Elevate the pot to be above ground (maybe in a pot holder or something that allows air to flow through the bottom)

Glazed pots retain less water, so they’re good to help water drain through

Terracotta pots specifically absorb and retain water (which is good for plants that really like water, but need close attention when used for succulents) 

🌤Weather notes:🌤

You’ll need to water more in the dry weather and when it’s really hot

Water less when it’s colder or humid

Succulents like bright indirect sunlight (Direct sunlight can burn succulents!)

If you live in a colder climate, don’t get much sunlight, or are growing succulents indoors, you might consider getting a grow light so that your succulents can thrive in climates they may not typically grow naturally in.

🍃Propagation notes:🍃

When succulents begin to rot or die, they shed their leaves. While the plant may be dying, the leaves can be saved to create new baby succulents!

If you’re going to prop them, separate the leaves in a lil tray and let them dry over a few days.

When the tips where the wounds are (where you cut them) dry up, a callous will form.

Once this happens, you’ll be able to place the leaf on top of a tray of soil.

Once roots begin to form, you can spray them with water to help promote growth.

Once roots grow, you’ll eventually be able to pot them in your own starter pots.

Proplifting/propstealing: This is when you go to a store (usually a big box store) and kind of scavenge around for fallen leaves. Some people clip leaves off existing succulents, but I don’t condone this and don’t engage in this sort of theft. Plants have spirits and to steal a leaf is like stealing from that spirit. However...

You definitely *shouldn’t* proplift leaves (pick fallen leaves up off the floor) from big box stores that can afford to lose a leaf they will throw away. You definitely *shouldn’t* stick it to big box stores that take advantage and abuse their employees. You really really *shouldn’t* and I definitely encourage you *not to* proplift.

(Note: On the real, don’t even think about stealing even a little leaf or petal from a mom & pop shop. Don’t even put that energy out there. But big box stores who overwork their employees and pay them way too little, as far as I and my higher power are concerned, fuck ‘em.)

🛠Care & maintenance notes:🛠

If leaves are crispy, they are either dry or sun burnt.

If leaves are squishy and yellow/orange in color, this is from too much water

Occasionally, the leaves at the base of the succulent beneath all of the other leaves will dry out. (This is normal!)

DON’T TOUCH the powder on top. This protects them from sun, pests, etc. and will never grow back if you touch it.

🔮✖️🔮✖️🔮MAKE IT WITCHY 🔮✖️🔮✖️🔮

🧚🏻‍♀️Pixie Gardens:🧚🏻‍

There are vendors that will sell little itty bitty succulent gardens called pixie gardens. You can incorporate these pixie gardens into your practice and keep one handy for your lil fae friends. (If you don’t already work with the fae, please do research beforehand!)

🌕Moon Magick:🌕

New Moon: Take this time to plant new arrangements, prop succulents, repot succulents (within reason, don’t do this like every month), etc. This is a fresh start!

I create moon water when there is a new moon. I have a mason jar, typically, (a few if I’m honest) and fill it with water and a bit of succulent fertilizer. (Use the appropriate ratio based on the fertilizer instructions.) Then I set the jars out over night, allow the new moon to charge them, and then use this water to spray onto my propagation leaves or in plants I’ve recently repotted. This is great for succulents you’re hoping to revive or new babies you’re hoping to grow.

🔮How I incorporate magick into my gardening and gardening into my practice:🔮

When I garden, I set my intentions with each succulent I pot or arrange. I speak to it while I do this and communicate with my higher power. I whisper what I hope to manifest as I set the pot on my plant stand or find a place for it on my balcony.

I release stress and hand over my worries over to my higher power while I garden. It’s very therapeutic and helps me reflect.

You can create new life by planting and gardening. Succulents that you have birthed from propagation are extensions of you.

As you water and nourish your garden, you are watering and nourishing your intentions, hopes, and dreams.

I plant succulents (and other plants) in the name of others and pour my love into the plant as I would for that person. My energy flows back into my garden work and continues through the universe.

Homebrews I Love...

1. The Artificer Class

Yes, I know it's coming soon. Yes I know it's going to be Official, but right now it's still in UA, so technically it's still Unofficial…

For those that don't know, Artificers are Master Inventors, channelling arcane powers to craft wondrous magical items.

The Class is super fun to play with, and just having a Class made to craft Magical Items is pretty darn cool if you ask me.

And depending on how kind your DM is, you could even implement the Crafting Magic Items Sections from Books like Xanathar's Guide and have your Artificer be able to craft quite literally Legendary Magical Items.#

(Yes it might take a few tens of thousands of gold pieces and about a year or so to do it, but it's possible, right?)

Anyways, you can find the current version of the Artificer Class and it's Subclasses on D&D Beyond, you don't need to purchase it right now, but I hope people take a look at the Eberron Setting Book whenever that comes out...

2. The Blood Hunter Class

Does this Class even need an introduction? You guys know Matt Mercer right?

Well, I guess if you don't know, I should tell you.

Matt Mercer is the Dungeon Master for the ridiculously popular D&D Show Critical Role, and has been DMing for way longer than that.

So of course when he creates his own Class, people are gonna gobble it up.

The Bloodhunter is "A fanatical slayer that embraces dark knowledge to destroy evil".

They use their own Blood to fuel their Magics, turning into ghosts, werewolves and creating flaming swords and weapons that spark lightning using just their blood.

I can't describe to you how cool this Class is. You can be a freaking werewolves, or a ghost!

Anyways, you can find the current version of the Bloodhunter Class and its Subclasses on D&D Beyond and on the DMs Guild, where right now (at the time of writing), the Price is "Pay What You Want", so you don't have to go broke buying the Class, but it also lets you throw a bit of cash at everyone's favourite Dungeon Master...

3. The Illrigger Class

Do you wanna praise Asmodeus while charging into the Blood War with a thousands Devils under your command!?

Well the Illrigger Class is for you!

Illriggers, also called Hell Knights (which is the coolest name for a Class!) are knights that work under Archdevils and even Asmodeus himself, using the powers they're gifted to slay foes both good and evil.

The Class was created by Matt Colville from MCDM. I know I've already sung his praises before, and I'll do it again here!

The Class has so many cool features. From being able to cast Illrigger-Specific Spells to the Illrigger's own '¾ Casting' that gives them more Spells than the average walking Paladin, to features that let you turn into a living beast of shadow, to a hell-mage commanding the Magics of Asmodeus, to a literal Devil Knight, as in actually turning into a giant freaking devil…

And if you need any more swaying into taking a look at the Class, I'd suggest watching 'The Chain of Acheron', a D&D Show on both Twitch and YouTube where one of the Players is currently playing Judge, a Tiefling Illrigger of Asmodeus.

You can find the Illrigger Class on the MCDM Productions Website, and there's even a Revised Version of the Illrigger that's currently under Playtesting but soon to be released.

Oh, and back MCDM's New Kickstarter, Kingdoms and Warfare, it's cool, thought I'd mention it.

4. The Pugilist Class

Ever wanted to be a street fighter but thought Monk was a little too spiritual for you, and the Fighter was too bland?

Well the Pugilist is a Class that's got so much swagger behind it, they made it their main feature just so they could punch you in the face with it!

"With nothing but their wits, will, and fists, pugilists lay it all on the table every time they’re in for a scrap."

They're boxers, street fighters, warriors of the pits and lovers of the tavern brawl.

If you want a class that can knock out the competition, play a Pugilist can become a Luchadore, or just someone who can literally knock out the competition…

The Pugilist Class was made by Benjamin Huffman and just got a big update, with a whole new subclass and now with a bunch of magic items too!

You can find it on the DMs Guild, and Emmet Byrne even created a character sheet specifically for use with the Pugilist class, so I guess there's no reason not to!

5. The ‘Monster Tamer’ Subclass for the Ranger

Another brainchild of Matt Colville and MCDM Productions, the Monster Tamer is a Subclass for the Ranger that's an improved version of the Beastmaster Ranger without all the noodles that can bust a Player's brain included.

The Monster Tamer let's you gain a Monster for a Pet!

And if you need any examples, simply look to The Chain of Acheron again, because Tom (not Tom) plays Copper, the Goblin Ranger and Monster Tamer with his Monster Companion, Bigcat, the Displacer Beast.

And while some of you might be saying "Woah woah woah, a Displacer Beast?", trust me when I say it's not overpowered.

Yes, it's had some tweaking in game and I personally think it's a cool subclass simply from the idea, but if you need anymore persuading at all, think about this: You could have a Purple Worm as a Pet if you can roll high enough…

Yep, if you roll high enough you could ride around on the back of a Purple Worm…

Anyways, you can find the Monster Tamer Subclass on the MCDM Productions Website, and Matt himself has said he's working on a revision with even more stuff included!

6. The ‘Cartographer’ Subclass for the Ranger

Created by Hannah Rose and Deven Rue (for those that might remember, Deven Rue was the cartographer of official Critical Role Dwendalian Empire map), the Cartographer is yet another Subclass for the Ranger, and this one's all about making maps of the lands they travel through.

Cartographers are great because not only can they make really fancy maps, their Subclass Features are all based around it.

They never get lost so long as they're somewhere that's on their Magical Map, they can see a specific point on the Map as if they were standing there, and at higher levels they can just BAMF! themselves and the rest of the Party to anywhere on their very fancy well drawn map, working like a badass version of teleportation.

[English Subs DL] Joker Game II

Hello~! This is an unexpected project from me, I’m sure, but it was a really great stage to have worked on! Thank you to @thiswasmadeonawhim​ for requesting me to do them! I had a blast reliving the anime and catching up with the novel, even if they did make me go through a rollercoaster of emotions in the process ^^;

The first stage’s subs were wonderfully done by @/great-blaster and their team in this post HERE. Please check them out if you want to get into the world of Joker Game stage~! (Not sure if the actual video is provided or if it’s just softsubs though ^^;) It’s not completely necessary to watch the first one to get the gist of the second one, but it would be better ifjust to get a feel for the characters, setting, and overall vibe that Joker Game offers ^^

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, late-January 2020

Welcome to my latest summary of recent news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across since the mid-January report, although some may be older than that. 

Right now I am trying to get at least 2 of these out each month. Is that enough? Too much? Am I missing topics you want to see covered? Please let me know! Comment here, message me through Tumblr, Twitter, or my website.

TOP NEWS & ARTICLES 

Etsy introduced alternative shipping for US sellers shipping outside of the US & Canada, run by Asendia. Etsy Labels will no longer offer USPS First Class International for those shipments, but faster levels will still be through USPS. The Help file doesn’t give that much more detail; discussion is here. 

Having educational/information pages on ecommerce websites can help product page search rankings. Blog posts, pillar pages and tutorials can all be a good investment. 

Excellent article on how to keep your existing buyers (aka customer retention) rather than always going after new ones. It cites decent research in the area, with examples. (As regular readers know, I love Help Scout’s customer service articles!) For example, “When it comes to highly rated customer service, quality and completeness matter more than speed. According to research from Gallup, customers were nine times more likely to be engaged with a brand when they evaluated the service as “courteous, willing, and helpful.” “Speedy” service, on the other hand, only made customers six times more likely to be satisfied.”

ETSY NEWS 

More updates to listing categories, including a new Presets & Photo Filters category, and Cribs & Cradles is now called Moses Baskets & Hammocks. 

Tips on marketing your Etsy listings for weddings. “Etsy wedding shoppers are often drawn to Etsy because they identify as creative people themselves, an asset you should consider when developing and marketing your products. By offering DIY versions of some of your popular items, you can draw in crafty shoppers, who may end up purchasing a finished handmade item from your shop instead. Offering both options can also be a great way of hitting multiple price points.”

If you sell jewellery and/or accessories, here is Etsy’s advice for marketing in the first half of the year. “While high-end jewelry is often a carefully considered purchase, more affordable everyday items make easy impulse buys and gifts due to their small size and approachable price points.” Also, people are still shopping by gender: “70% YoY increase in Jewelry, Accessories, and Bags category searches containing “him”. “We expect the bags category to grow the most out of these three categories in the next year, led by the increasing popularity of small leather goods such as wallets, dopp kits, and items for travel. A recent increase in average order value within the Bags category suggests buyers are willing to pay more for high-quality materials like leather.” But note that “Buyers tend not to use the term "purse" in their searches.” Finally, “From July through September 2019, over half of Etsy US and global GMS came from purchases that shipped for free.”

In case you missed it, Disney is going after Etsy sellers of Baby Yoda merchandise. Some speculate that they are mostly focusssing on the listings making the most sales. More sarcastic & humorous take here.

Interesting interview (podcast & transcript, including a pdf) with CEO Josh Silverman, on business strategies.  I do like this quote: “When you’re successful, what can be really hard is to tell you’re successful because of some things and in spite of others.” To be very honest, I have this problem a lot, and have seen other business people misjudge their success as well. This is telling, though “And you have until December 31st to ship it.” I have a hunch that is what happened with Etsy Ads and the free shipping tools. So they shipped unfinished tools, and that was bad for the business. Finally, “HOFFMAN: Until this point, Etsy’s focus had been on its sellers. It saw itself as a marketplace for handmade items, and the people who made them. Josh knew he had to change this perspective… SILVERMAN: It was a really big shift in focus. I think Etsy, like many two sided marketplaces, has very deep empathy for sellers, so much so that it can forget to have empathy for buyers. And when you talk to your sellers, they really mostly want three things. They want buyers, they want buyers, and they want buyers – in that order. In order to serve the sellers, you’ve really got to focus on buyers...By the end of my fifth week almost everyone in the company had a new job.”

SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES 

Google confirmed a core search update that started to roll out January 13 and took about 3 days, and showed substantial changes on most tracking tools. Early analysis indicates this has once again affected sites based on trustworthiness, but big winners and losers are still unclear. The take from Moz is that this hit health sites like previous updates, but also hurt diverse sites such as Orbitz, Yellow Pages, Poshmark, USA Today and Forever 21. RankRanger noted that there was more volatility in finance rankings than the December update. 

Remember Google’s algorithm change late last year, called BERT? George Mueller offered a bit of advice [text and video] on how to optimize for it: “if ... there’s anything that you can do to kind of optimize for BERT, it’s essentially to make sure that your pages have natural text on them...So instead of stuffing keywords as much as possible, kind of write naturally” 

Google is now highlighting some products (clothing & accessories) in organic search results on mobile in the US & India; you have to have a Google Merchant Centre account set up, but you do not need to buy ads to get this organic boost. Here’s the Google help file on how to optimize. 

If your website has many related pages on a specific topic, organizing the info on one “content hub” (aka pillar pages, or even category pages in some cases) is an excellent way to get user and search engine attention.

Google has a “SafeSearch filter” that removes porn and other mature content from search results, but sometimes it catches innocent sites as well. 

Another good article on how internal linking can serve multiple purposes on your website, especially keyword ranking.

Sites that get the “featured snippet” position in Google search results can no longer get organic ranking on the first page. This could change, though. 

CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails) 

Excellent tips & advice on how to make email marketing work for you. Not using emails? You should. “...email has over 3.8 billion daily active users. Take a minute to think about that. Most people who use email probably fall between the ages of 15 and 64, and since there are only about 5 billion people on the planet in that age range, that means email has over 75 percent market penetration.” And “Almost three-fourths of people prefer to hear from businesses via email.”

Do you think that every email campaign needs its own landing page? I’m not sure, but there are some convincing arguments here. And don’t forget to plan to send your emails at the right time for your list subscribers. 

Updated for 2020, HubSpot does an excellent holiday calendar that can help you plan social media posts and other content ahead of time, including hashtags where applicable. 

Tips on converting your existing content (blog posts etc.) into podcasts. “Podcasts tend to be longer-form content than video or blogs. Many videos that companies produce are relatively short, ~2 minutes. For someone looking to listen to your podcast, this may not be substantial enough in terms of the information covered.”

Here’s a useful list of demographics of social media users - think about which sites would work best for your business based on who is using them. 

Reddit is an excellent source of content ideas (video & transcript), as people are usually discussing and upvoting things that interest them, and it is all organized by topic for you. 

Instagram is adding direct messaging (DM) access to their website. 

Facebook is accused of denying data access to potential competitors. 

A surprising number of American adults use LinkedIn, and their numbers are growing faster than expected. “LinkedIn users make up around one-third of all social network users in the U.S.”

ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS) 

Another tutorial on setting up a Google Ads account. 

Google ads were less evident in organic search results, for about a week. This mirrors the changes on mobile several months ago, & includes favicons next to brand sites. But more people complained about the desktop layout, so they have backed down and will continue to test new versions. 

Facebook, Google & Amazon are not the only advertising options out there.

STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING 

If you haven’t set up Google Search Console for your website or blog, you should. [YouTube Video, from the Beginners series]

A good basic guide to using the Google Keyword Planner, including more tips on how to get in without setting up a paid ad campaign. 

Instagram is most useful when you track your stats - use Insights to track your reach, clicks, impressions etc. 

ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS 

The growth of ecommerce purchases has been detrimental to US retail sales overall, due to brick and mortar store closures, lower b&M profit margins, and fewer jobs. Remember that Amazon now gets around 50% of ecommerce purchases in the US, meaning that the increase of online retail is more consolidated than the lost brick and mortar sales. 

Amazon will now be reporting counterfeit goods sold on its site to the authorities: "The hope has been that Amazon’s coveted data will help law enforcement make connections about criminals." 

Amazon has started a delivery program in Australia called Amazon Flex. Requiring drivers to sign up for shifts up to 4 hours that they choose, driving their own vehicles, the program is being compared to Uber. 

Shopify now has over 1 million merchants, and is growing rapidly. “This past Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend, the company saw $2.9 billion in total sales; during its peak, Shopify software was processing $1.5 million in sales and 16,000 checkouts a minute.”

BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE 

Smartphone purchases continue to increase: $5.9 billion spent on Black Friday & Cyber Monday, and 48% of online purchases in the US on Christmas Day. 

Supposedly, USPS is the most trusted brand in the US, followed by Amazon, Google, and Paypal. Actual quote: “levels of distrust are high in America, but it found that brands can win trust by protecting consumers' data privacy, not hiding important information in fine print and treating employees better than the minimum required by law.” I’m struggling with Amazon & Google in the top in particular, given that quote, but at least Facebook didn’t make the top 25. 😉 Note that age is a differential factor here: “Google is the most trusted brand among Gen Z and millennials, while USPS is the most trusted among older generations like Gen X and baby boomers.” Study details & top 25 list available here. (There is a large difference between the generations, according to this study; it’s worth a scan.)
